So, all right, I'm not really sure how I want to start this or where to begin, really.
I don't even know how many of you are watching or listening right now.
If you are, if you are here, I really appreciate you being here.
But if you're not, I don't.
really blame you. If it wasn't literally my job to be on top of everything
Mariners, I wouldn't be super motivated right now to watch every Mariners game. I
wouldn't be super motivated right now to consume Mariners content. So I understand. But
again, if you are here, props to you. I want to see you in the comments if you're
watching on YouTube right now rocking with me as I get ready to
dish out some hard truths.
Before we do that, though,
let's quickly recap what's happened over the last 20 or so hours.
The Mariners have dropped a series, a three-game series,
to one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball.
That's the Washington Nationals.
And what makes this all the more frustrating is that they easily could have won it last night.
they go into extra endings tied at four piece had you know a lethargic offensive performance overall
but nothing compared to what they did in the bottom of the tenth or did not do rather in the bottom of the tenth
and they wasted a really nice outing from justin top of the tenth as well which was super disappointing
they load the bases in the bottom of the 10th still 4-4 nobody out all they need is a medium-depth
lie ball to score colton long who has good speed at third base you got the top or you get the heart
of your order rather do up tie france to asker annes cow rally tie france infield out
to asker annandez swinging strikeout cal raleigh
comebacker to the pitcher.
The Nationals follow that up with a three-run top of the 11th,
and the Mariners don't score and lose 7 to 4.
And that offensive ineptitude was carried over to this afternoon,
where they were shut out over seven innings by Patrick Corbyn,
who is by F-WR standards,
quite literally the worst starting pitcher in Major League Baseball since 2021.
He hadn't thrown seven scoreless since August 2019.
And he hadn't had a scoreless outing in general,
which I believe was over six innings pitch since May of 2022.
You can say that he was sharp and he was this and that all you want.
This was a putrid offensive performance from the Mariners
against a guy who had no business doing what he did to them.
this afternoon. Tom Murphy had no issues
hitting off of him today. He went three for three.
Jose Caballero had a decent night, or decent
afternoon rather. But your top four hitters when it combined
over 16. That's J.P. Crawford. That's Julio Rodriguez. That's
Thai France. That's Tay Oscar Hernandez. Unacceptable.
This team looked
just as dejected as I felt this morning
waking up from that complete utter embarrassment last night.
And that's a problem.
Cal Raleigh was right last night.
This is a bad baseball team.
The only thing that's kept them above the seller of Major League Baseball
is that they are talented.
They have a lot of talent.
And that's what makes this season as a whole all the more frustrating.
Is their roster incomplete?
Yes, we've said that time and time again.
But you cannot deny the fact that this team is talented.
That it has a lot of talented pieces who should be performing better than they are this year.
They have the talent to be one of the best in baseball.
They have the mental fortitude, however, of the Oakland athletics.
And that's the problem.
And that's being exhibited with at bats like,
the ones that we saw today.
That's being exhibited by the terrible effort on that throwing error by Brian Wu last night
by Thai France and Tay Oscar Hernandez that allowed Jamir Condolario to score from first.
This team gets punched in the mouth and does not get back up and start fighting.
This team is nothing like the teams that we've seen over the last few years.
we have enough data,
we have enough evidence now
to say that.
This team is not a good baseball team.
This is a bad baseball team.
And it frankly should be a lot worse than 37 and 41
with the way that they're losing ball games.
But again, the talent is so immense.
The pitching staff is still one of the best in baseball,
even though that it has regressed as of late.
You know, you have guys like Julio Rodriguez
is and Teosker and Nandez has been a lot better, you know, last two nights notwithstanding,
but has been a lot better over the last month. You have the ability to win games on just pure
talent alone. That's only going to take you so far. And that's why we're seeing this team only
win two or three games at a time and then lose three or four right after. And they don't have
the mental fortitude to overcome these issues.
They don't have the mental fortitude to bounce back from a game like last night and still win a series the next day.
And that's the biggest difference between this team in 2021 and 2022.
And tomorrow they have an off day before they square off with Rays, which you can catch on the Marys hometown broadcast with Sirius XM via the SXM app.
The Rays have not been playing as well as they were to start the year, of course.
pretty hard to maintain that over the course of a full season.
But there's still the best team in baseball,
or at least one of the best teams in baseball.
And now you have to host those guys over a weekend series
after doing what you just did against one of the worst teams in baseball.
So again, tomorrow you have an off day.
And changes need to be made.
Again, we have enough data.
We have enough evidence to make conclusions.
conclusions. It's time for some accountability. Again, it's time for some changes. I'll tell you

And you're listening to the Lockdown Marries Postgame show.
Thank you again for making.
your first listen after the Mariners' 4-1 loss to the Washington Nationals this afternoon.
Again, you can catch the Rays and the Mariners on the Mariners' hometown broadcast of Series
XM v. the SXM app this weekend.
But before we get to that game, changes need to be made.
Something has to be done.
And tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day.
Jerry Depoto, as far as I'm aware, is going to be going on the radio in the morning in 710 Seattle Sports.
He's obviously going to be asked about this.
And it's going to be interesting to see if it's more of the, you know, guys are not playing how they should, etc., etc., etc., etc.
Or if there's actually going to be some real accountability taken.
but Jerry has to have a busy day tomorrow
him and Justin Hollander
have to do something
in an ideal world
they trade for a player who
descends from the heavens and magically
helps get this team right back on track
but I live in reality
that's probably not going to happen
and
there's a real
point to be made that should it happen? Should the Mariners trade resources at 37 and 41 to
try and scrap together and salvage a season that doesn't seem like it's going to be fixed by
just one deal by one trade by one player? But there needs to be some change. And so what I would do,
firstly is DFA A.J. Pollock.
He had a rough day to day.
Go figure when he's hardly playing at all.
This team is hardly using its bench right now.
And Colby and I were talking about this on our Patreon show yesterday that,
you know, I kind of wonder if it's a fatigue issue with this offense and why it's so inconsistent.
Because A. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. E. H. Os. Os. O'Sorres and Teoska, Hernandez, have played every single
game.
Julio's played a lot.
Jared's played a lot.
A lot of these guys
haven't gotten consistent
time off.
They haven't been able to get a blow
when they need it because
it's clear as day that Scott
Service and the mayor's coaching staff
don't trust the guys that they have
currently on their bench.
And that includes A.J. Pollack.
So I'm DFA and A.J. Pollock.
I'm just moving on.
Clearly,
don't trust him to get back on track.
It's the same thing that we talked about
with Tommy Lacella, Colton Wong,
that you can't really justify
giving him at Bats right now,
but you're also doing him a disservice
by not giving him any sort of opportunity
to build some momentum
towards getting back on track.
I'm also sending Dillamore down
or putting him on the IL, whatever,
because like I talked about
with Joe Doyle yesterday,
and this isn't really of Dylan Moore's fault,
but he doesn't look capable of hitting major league pitching right now.
So I'm giving a shot to Jake Shiner,
and I'm probably looking at someone else like Colin Moran,
Cade Marlowe, Zach DeLoch,
Taylor Tremel, doesn't really matter.
I'm kind of intrigued by DeLoch because,
look, I think he's a fourth outfielder at best.
There really isn't any power to speak of there.
But what he has done at every level of professional baseball is walk.
So could he at least be good for a walk a night?
I just need some guys in here that can get Julio off of his legs for a day,
Jared off of his legs for a day,
Teo, et cetera.
And while they might not be solutions,
they at least buy me time to see if I can get things rolling again.
and justify making a trade and also just,
you know, in general, allowing the trade market
to open a little bit more.
And it's better at least to do something than do nothing.
To take a shot on an unknown, right?
I don't feel great about Zach Deloge producing for me at all.
I don't really have any confidence in that happening.
I don't really have any confidence in Jake Scheiner doing that either.
But the same can be said for Dillamore.
and AJ Pollock,
but at least I've seen those guys
at the Major League level.
I've seen them struggle here.
Jake Shiner,
Cade Marlowe,
Zach Deloge, Colamaran, etc.
I have it.
So I would like to see that happen tomorrow.
I would like to see the Mariners make some sort of move there.
And then,
internally speaking,
they need to have a come-to-Jesus moment.
That clubhouse
as I laid out earlier on in the show,
seems to be in disarray.
And I don't necessarily blame them
because they're not playing well, right?
This is incredibly frustrated.
They are more frustrated than we are right now,
but they're allowing that to show up on the field
when it matters like today.
This is a problem.
Now, what that come to Jesus moment
looks like exactly.
I don't know.
I'm not the one getting paid millions of dollars
to make this thing work.
That's up to Scott's service.
That's up to
Jerry DePoto.
Justin Hollander. That's up for, you know,
because the Mariners, it's all a collaborative effort.
There isn't one guy
pulling the strings here.
So everyone that has any sort of control
within this organization
has to huddle together,
has to game plan here,
and has to do something.
There has to be some accountability here.
And right now I'm just not seeing that.
You know, Cal Raleigh's taking accountability.
The players are,
but,
and look, I'm not calling for Scott's services head.
I'm not.
I'm not calling for Jerry DePoto's head.
I'm not calling for Justin Hollander's head.
I'm not.
I'm not doing that.
because it would be irresponsible of me to run my mouth about things that I frankly,
I don't know for sure.
I'm not there.
I'm not sure exactly what's going on.
But common sense says that the coaching staff, the front office, etc.
I mean, obviously we can talk about the off season and all that,
but just in terms of what's going on, particularly in season right now,
that all of these entities to a certain degree are culpable.
So I need to see some accountability taken.
And right now I just, I'm only seeing that from a couple of guys.
And again, this is, this is a problem.
This is a, this is a massive problem.
This is incredibly concerning to see the philosophy of this team that led this team to two straight 90-win seasons the past few years is clearly crumbling.
Right?
The offensive philosophy, we've talked about it.
Control the zone, dominate the zone.
None of that is present in what this offense is doing right now.
How many times do they strike out against Patrick Corbyn today?
Nine, nine strikeouts against Patrick Corbyn.
They had six hard hit balls over seven innings.
Again, the worst starting pitcher in Major League Baseball, not this season,
not even last season,
but the last two and a half seasons.
It's unacceptable.
It's disgusting.
And I'm getting tired of watching this team.
I really am.
I know I'm supposed to be the positive one here
on Lockdown Mariners,
but I'm not going to be yes to you.
I don't have any positives to take away
from any of this.
There's little isolated things,
but this wasn't supposed to be a silver lining season.
And it just breaks my heart to see this continue to fall apart.
I don't know what else to say, honestly.
I'm just, I'm exhausted.
I'm exhausted of getting on here every single day
and talking about the same issues over and over and over again.
It sucks.
It sucks for you.
it's not interesting content for you
it's not interesting content for me or Colby to make
and there's nothing that we can really do about it
this team is just playing terrible baseball right now
it's a bad baseball team as Cal Raleigh said last night
and I don't know what you do to fix it
because again like I said I have ideas for change
I have some changes in mind
but I never said that they were going to fix this team
I don't really even have much confidence that it can fix this team.
This team hit rock bottom last night
and somehow found a way to dig even deeper
this afternoon.
And I'm puzzled.
I'm devastated.
That's going to do it for our show.
