We're going to open up the mailbag and answer some of your mayor's questions today.
But first, Cal Raleigh's already historic season just continues.
was he is your 2025 home run derby champion.
He is the first catcher and first switch hitter to win the event.
Because of course he is.
Feels like he's the first catcher and the first switch header to do a lot of things these days.
And he did it, Colby, as you tweeted from the lockdown era's account last night with 54 home runs.
Yep.
54.
We're never going to escape that.
number, are we? Wouldn't count on it. It's just inevitable. Yeah. So what did you think about Cal's
performance last night? Yeah, you know, what I did see the first round is, you know, dad struggle,
throw him some good pitches, actually hit them at one point, which hilarious. But yeah, and so I thought
maybe Cal's dad had a bad first round and, you know, I thought maybe it was going to cost him.
But thankfully, Olson really kind of flamed out there at the end after he went on a really
impressive stretch in the middle.
And, you know, some little technicalities where we think these cameras are accurate enough
to determine the distance of baseball travels.
Yeah.
Yes.
We think they can determine the, how far baseball travels down to the, I mean, a tenth of an inch, apparently.
But yeah, you know, either way, whatever, get over it.
And it benefited Cal that time.
And who knows, I mean, in a swing off, Cal certainly can beat Brent Rooker in that.
So maybe it didn't matter at all.
But, yeah, it was a very impressive display from Cal because, you know, he, he, he,
He very consistent rounds of 17, 18, and 19, you know, and so it was measured.
It was just paced really well, which can be a problem.
And, you know, we saw a big part of the reason Julio lost his two derbies is because he went so hard and so fast and got as many swings as he possibly could that he didn't have anything left in the tank by the time he got to the final round.
and Cal actually his best round was the final round.
And now it also helped that, you know, because of the seating and the reshuffle and all of that,
that he got a few more breaks than Julio did.
But, yeah, it was really impressive.
And yeah, it was fun to watch, particularly that last matchup against Camerro.
And it was surprised because I think Cal went up against the two guys best equipped to win a derby.
in this field and that would be o'neill cruz and and caminero and both of those guys won uh you know
different competitions last night and and uh but uh cow was just so consistent and honestly never
really looked like he was gassed at any point uh during this and and you look at o'neal cruise he
looked gassed uh which is weird and camonero looked gas when he took his time out in the final round
and that was weird because he only swung the bat like ten times in the previous
his round to get to the finals.
So Cal's pacing was just great.
He got in some grooves.
He wasn't afraid even to like take a deep breath and reset and kind of waste five,
six,
seven seconds in the two minutes.
And it helped him because he had,
you know,
two or three home runs on the next three or four pitches.
So,
yeah,
Cal's pacing was right where it needed to be.
And obviously Randy's done the,
the derby before and done very well in it.
And Julio's,
as we know,
has done the derby before and done very well on it.
So he had, you know, quite a bit of information that work.
And then juniors right there, although it was completely different in Junior's Day.
So I tell if he had much useful information based on the new format.
But yeah, you know, Cal is it's a long line of Mariners performing very well at the derby.
And it's kind of weird that this is the first Mariner to win it since Griffey when you think about what Hulah did and his incredible derbies.
But yeah, Cal got it done.
And, yeah, I mean, he, the final tallies in his last two rounds weren't close.
Like he won by five or six home runs in both rounds, which is surprising considering who he's going up again.
So, yeah, you know, hopefully catches his, you know, four or five innings tonight, gets two outbats.
And then he gets right back on a plane and goes into the hot tub for the next two days and just kind of relaxes because it's been a wild first half for Cal and the mares are certainly going to need.
need him in the second half.
And there's there's really no rest for him because, you know, again, the Mariners come back
right with six games against two of the best teams in all of baseball.
So I hope he enjoyed it, seem to have.
I'm happy that he won.
Now it would be great if he could just be wrapped in bubble wrap and ship back up to Seattle
before, you know, anything else happens to him.
And he is a catcher.
Also the first catcher to win it, first switch hitter to win it.
Cal's doing a lot of first.
for catchers this year. He's he's carrying that banner quite quite loud and proud for the
catcher brotherhood. So yeah good on him. A cool moment with his with his brother and his dad and all
that stuff too. Yeah. So kudos to Cal and his family and it was it was fun. Caminero and Cruz
reminded me a lot last night of Julio's performances where they they had the most impressive
nights. I mean, O'Neill Cruz had a ball out of the stadium.
last night
513
yeah 513 feet
in Atlanta
not in Colorado in Atlanta
that's like the third
longest home run ever hit
and you know
since they've been tracking it
in the derby
really like slow and steady
wins the race here with this event
that's what makes it kind of the
really the only
semi interesting
all-star skills challenge
because there's an actual
like strategy to it
and you saw a cal employ that
and you know like
Vlad Juni
year a couple of years ago when he wound up winning it in seattle despite hollio again being the
star of that derby that's how flab was able to win it he was never the guy over the course of that
night but again he just got enough he kept chipping away kept chipping away cal just did the same thing
last night and yeah there's obviously the technicality whatever i just like to look at it as cow raleigh
has more aura than britt rucker personally and that's why he advanced and let's be real about it
Brimurker wasn't doing what Cal Raleigh did last night.
He wasn't going to beat O'Neill Cruz and Junior Camero.
I was pretty surprised that Camerro ran out of gas there in that final round because that swing looked so effortless.
But, yeah, again, it was just, it was very reminiscent of Julio and both in L.A. and in Seattle.
Just, you know, really showing out in a big way, but then just kind of running out of steam there towards the end.
But yeah, I mean, just what a night for Cal.
What a night for that family.
I mean, you know, obviously Todd Jr. kind of stole the show last night,
especially with Eduardo Perez.
He couldn't stop talking about Todd Jr. last night.
But, yeah, that kid, apparently he's going to be getting a car here pretty soon from his brother.
And it is well-deserved.
And I mean, like, how can you not win when you got your brother having you up behind the plate?
And you got Randy a Rosarana coming out there,
bringing you Gatorade and a towel and giving you advice.
And by the way, you know, we talk a lot about how good Julio was in the
2023 derby.
Randy Rosa Rana was awesome in the 2023 derby as well.
Like he, he was the second best guy in that derby that year.
So again, not for the Mariners, though.
So.
Yeah.
Vlad Jr.
was the third best guy in that derby.
And he wound up wanting to, to my point earlier.
But, yeah, like Randy is a really good guy to, you.
know, bend his ear about this, this event and, uh, yeah, having him there certainly,
certainly helped, uh, Cal, I would assume as well. So yeah, it was really cool. And I mean, like,
again, it's just another feather in, and Cal's cap this year and what he's doing and what's
shaping up to be the greatest catcher season of all time at this point. Uh, and the star of
big dumper just continues to grow. I mean, he has been the face of this all star weekend. He's been
everywhere. He's been
the talk of pretty much
everything involving this
this three day stretch.
There's so many
articles being written about him. There's so
much stuff that I've been seeing on
MLB social media accounts
about him. He's in
these commercials and stuff like he
has become a superstar.
It's time for him to get humbled
a little bit. That's all I'm going to say.
Maybe a couple of strikeouts in the all-star
game tonight just to, you know,
right right bring them down everything you know knock them down a peg vibes are too high you kind of got to
you know get knocked down so you're like okay no I still got to get the work in of of course that's
your takeaway from this I'm a mariners fan well how could that not be your takeaway like things are
going way too well right now you need something like nothing this is like this is too this is too
good hold on hold on okay I know the shoes going to drop here in a second so like could it just
be something like rant like what happened to sagura
where he hit like the game winning Homer and he was going to be the MVP but then they blew it
and then they're like oh well now you're like oh that that sucks boo like something like in that
range not like you know Brian Wood's anything actually yeah not anything actually but no just
something that like more annoying than anything like just like that's a vibe just to knock us down a peg
and you know bring us back down earth a little bit yeah just be like okay you know it was still
overall a really good week but that sucks that part's because right now you
nothing has sucked about this last, you know, four or five days.
No, this has been like, yeah, it's been like the perfect last four days.
Again, the marries get a huge sweep against the tigers.
Kate Anderson falls in that met number three.
Cal wins the derby.
Yeah.
Honestly, maybe it would have been better if Rooker had gotten in on the technicality and we could all be mad about that.
Oh, shut up.
I just, that other shoe is going to drop.
That other shoe is going to drop.
I'm a Mariners fan.
I have to believe that other shoe is going to drop at some point.
I just hope it's up to a day when it does.
Yeah.
So I'm like,
So yeah,
congratulations to Cal.
Congratulations to the Raleigh family.
That was really cool to watch last night.
And I got to say,
it was,
it was,
even though it's just the home run derby,
uh,
it was pretty cool seeing a Seattle Mariner
lifting a trophy last night.
Not often we get to see that happen.
By the way,
Cald not only got a trophy.
He also got a chain.
He also got a belt.
They iced out Cal last night for one of the
that thing. Yep. All right. So we are going to switch gears here. We're going to answer your
questions because we didn't get to them yesterday for Mailbag Monday. So it is officially
Mailbag Tuesday right after the break. First, a reminder of this episode of the Locktime

So Colby, after Cal won the Derby last night, you made one last push to get us some last minute donations for our Feeding America fundraiser.
And it worked out pretty well.
We got a ton of donations to go over here as we put a bow on this thing.
Anonymous came through with $25.
Anonymous, again, with $167.60.
cents. Anonymous with $129. Jeremy with $75. I have to switch the page here, by the way. That's how many donations we got in between yesterday's episode and today. Eric with $25. Anonymous with $290. Anonymous with $54. Colin had a donation. It's not showing it again because Feeding America's website does that. Anonymous with $29. Anonymous with $29. Max with $29. Anonymous with $29.
David with $29.
Anonymous with $29.
I'm sensing the trend here.
Austin with $29.
Henry with $29.
Anonymous with $10.
Anonymous with $10.
Nick with 50.
Anonymous with $55.
Anonymous with $290.
Anonymous with $54.
And anonymous with $29.
So many anonymous.
Bringing us to a grand total of $13,347 raise.
And that's before you and I are going to.
chip in our part as well.
Yes. We got to add that up
tonight and then we'll tell you guys what the final total
is either tomorrow Thursday
update you guys on that.
But yeah,
we still fell short of
what we were able to do last year or two years ago.
Yes. Which was what
15.3K?
15 point, yeah. But
the difference there is that
last time we did this, we had two
mega donations that totaled up between $7,500 to $8,000 total.
So it accounted for about half of the total that we raised.
And that came in at the last minute.
This time around, the largest donation we received was $500.
And we had a couple of those.
But this one was much more, I guess, grassroots.
Like, if you want to, you want to call it that?
So despite not getting.
There was more quantity of donations.
More people donated, yes.
Yeah.
Which is awesome.
So while we didn't quite get to where we were a couple years ago, we actually, I would imagine, I probably could count up all the individual donations.
I imagine we got a lot more individual donations than we got there this time.
It's awesome that we raised so much, especially to see in the last, you know, 12 hours or so how many people donated.
It's really cool that we got that close again without the mega donations.
So if you eliminate the two big donations we got last time, we, we, we.
raised, I mean, 1.7 times more than we did the first time we did this.
And it's been a lot of fun.
So thank you to everybody who donated.
Again, you can still donate.
Like, we're not shutting it off.
Yeah.
Yeah, you can still donate.
It's just that we're not going to bother you guys right now.
It is, this is the last time we're going to talk about it.
Unless we'll mention, we'll mention it on Wednesday or Thursday once we add up the final
tally once we put in our contributions to it.
Still, like, you're not going to get the spiel at the start.
This is the last spiel you're going to get at the start of the second.
And just wanted to say, thank you guys.
That is over 130,000 meals that was raised by this community.
And that is awesome.
And it was done with a ton of individual donations.
And we saw everything from, you know, $1 donations to $500 donations and everything in
between.
And that's awesome.
to see. And yeah, it's greatly needed and feeding America's great organization. So we're very
happy that we got to do this again with them and this community in total over their last two
fundraisers has donated pretty close to 300,000 meals. That's really, that's really cool. That's
really, really cool. So anyways, stay tuned for maybe the offseason. There might be another fundraiser coming,
but we've got some things to figure out there.
But yeah, we do want to do this again.
We don't want to wait another 18 months to try this again.
But obviously, we can't ask you guys to donate every single episode to a new chariot.
Or could we?
But yeah, anyways, thank you guys so much.
Spiel is done.
Tomorrow we'll give you the grand total after we add up all the subscribers and all that.
And then that'll be that.
And then if there are any other donations that are made,
The link will still be in the description, by the way, if you do want to donate.
Yeah.
So if there's any other donations that are made, we'll also announce those.
Right.
We just won't be reminding you guys every episode.
It's really the only thing that's happened now.
But again, thank you to everybody who donated, everybody who subscribed, everybody
who shared rousing success today for the last six weeks.
Yeah.
Thank you guys so much.
Really, really appreciate it.
We got to 15K.
Okay.
All right.
solid goal i don't know yes you know maybe golf if you get to yeah maybe work out you guys just
scrounge up another eighteen hundred dollars you get a nice little golf clap from me all right
well it is mailbag tuesday not mailbag monday we had a lot to talk about yesterday so we
weren't able to get to your questions so we're going to do that now zach wants to know
favorite non first round player taken by the mariners rounds two through 20 so
I guess Kate Anderson and Luke Stevenson are off the board.
It's kind of redundant, right?
Non-first rounder, rounds two through 20.
Well, I mean, what other rounds?
I mean, I guess technically we eliminate Stevenson now.
Like, we'll do that.
I guess they also mean no competitive balance round.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's my assumption as well.
So, yeah, no Stevenson.
Corbyn Dickerson, probably, the fifth round pick.
Yeah, yeah, that was my pick as well.
because it's plus run plus raw power plus defense.
If they figure out the swing and miss,
like who buddy.
But even if they don't,
that's a major leaguer still.
That guy is going to get to the major leagues.
Talking 65, 70 glove in center.
You're talking 60 speed,
60 raw power.
And, you know,
probably a 40 hit right now.
If you can get that to 45 or 50,
it's that's a four-win player yeah basically on defense and the slug alone maybe even five so yeah it's
dickerson i really like that that swing that they make and uh you know we'll see if they can make it
work but if not that's still a super high floor and a guy who's going to help you uh one way or another
so yep i i like the big swing that that's a second round talent that they got in the fifth
he's the he's my favorite pick yeah uh i also thought the the mayor is
had some really nice value between rounds 11 and 20 with the two catcher picks that they made with Grant Jay,
who's probably going to wind up in a corner. He might play at some first or right field.
And Luke Heyman, the catcher out of Florida. I thought the mayor did very well for themselves and
building some actual like real catcher depth in their farm system yesterday.
Lots of interesting arms as well. Yeah, Lucas Kelly to again, like we said yesterday is basically like
of Paul Cewald through 99.
So that's that's fun.
And then they actually drafted a guy that basically looks like Paul Seawald.
What is his name again?
The dude out of Arizona.
I don't know.
It's funny.
They took like two like two arms that Joe Doyle, friend of the show, literally said.
Yeah.
Look, the Mariners drafted Paul Seawald again.
One went to Arizona State.
One went to Arizona.
Yeah.
So Casey Hentz.
That's that's the guy.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's 16th round pick.
Yeah, watch him and you'll see a lot of Paul Seawald.
Hence very much more like Seawald than that he throws 92, 93.
Whereas Ellie is like Seawald on steroids.
Yeah.
We should very quickly mention this isn't related to the question, but we should quickly mention in the 19th round.
This was after we had recorded the mayor's drafted Cameron Appenzeller, who is, you know, he was graded as a
second round talent in this draft.
He's a cop round A type of guy.
Yeah, they took him as probably insurance in case they can't get Nick Becker done.
Yeah, he's not saying.
Yeah, they're not going to send.
He already told reporters in Tennessee that he's going to Tennessee yesterday.
So, yeah.
But maybe if something falls through with Becker, maybe they're able to get something done what happens.
All they will see.
Yeah.
Just a little insurance policy.
Yeah.
All right.

And you're listening to the Locktime Errors podcast.
Let's get back into your questions.
BT wants to know.
is it time to make garver the personal catcher for george kirby the start seem night and day different uh so i went through the numbers on this
and uh so kirby has made eight starts with cow raleigh catching him this year he's gone 40 and two thirds
innings pitch 25 earned runs 33 strikeouts 12 walks uh garber has caught him for two starts 13 and a third inning's pitch two run runs
23 strikeouts no walks
it's a small sample size
but yeah the the numbers are
night and day different um
it certainly helps like garber has caught
Kirby's by far his two best starts
of the year so far which includes the
the 14 strikeout game
and the angels and
pirates it's burg like yeah not exactly
juggernaut teams either but
yeah yeah I don't know it sounds to me like what tie
and is it BT
is wondering is if cow Raleigh is
clearly the worst defensive catcher that we've ever seen.
Right.
Catcher ERA?
Is that a thing?
Apparently.
Apparently.
Is that the same as quarterback wins?
Yeah.
No, quarterback wins actually matter.
So,
anyways,
yeah,
the problem with like the personalized catcher thing is that it doesn't
always line up that way because there are days where,
you know,
Kirby will be pitching a day game after a night game and,
and, you know, like that is easy for Garber to go out there.
But you don't want to put Cal at DH every single time that, you know,
George is out there because you want to get Polanco at bats at DH.
And you want to get, so you don't want to bench cow,
although you should try and get Cal more days off in the second half.
But I know that's hard to do.
So, yeah, you can make it so that it's mostly Garber catching Kirby.
But you can't completely make it like where every four days or every five days,
Garber is 100% in the lineup and Cal is either deaching or he's getting that day off.
You kind of can't do that just because of the way the schedule works in the day game after night game
and matchups on the mound because offense also matters here.
But yeah, I mean, clearly there's some kind of comfort level between guys throwing to each other.
the team already does try and take that into account.
But I do think that when you look at Kirby's starts,
it's tough to say, like it does feel to me like he throws better to Garber than he does to Cal.
But again, when you listen to the, he faced the angels and he faced the pirates.
Like the angels are a decent offense.
The pirates are not.
And so, you know, meanwhile, Cal is catching him against like the Cubs and,
the Yankees.
And so it's just a little bit
different. But yeah,
I do think, just on
the surface, it does look like Garver
and George work
well together. And so if you can set
that up without hurting
any other part of your game, fine.
But, you know, the offense
comes first and trying to
win the game is
more important than making sure George is comfortable.
And George, I mean, it's weird to me
to think that George can't throw to
you know a platinum glove catcher yeah like you just can't pitch to that guy i mean that that that's
kind of a red flag honestly uh to georgia psyche but uh yeah i i think they can try to set it up that way
but it's not as easy that it's done so yeah yeah uh but sure yeah like i'm fine with that and
if it gives cal one more day off every other week then cool so this leads me to a bigger take
one that I had on the Patreon show yesterday.
The mayor should try and resign Mitch Garber this offseason.
To actual
actual backup catcher money, by the way.
But Mitch Garber has been fine relative to what backup catchers are.
Like, he's been fine.
He's been actually pretty darn good defensively this year.
He needs to hit for more power relative to what your expectations are from him.
And he's starting to a little bit.
He had the home run on Sunday to what, tie the game or take the lead.
tie it was yeah yeah um but uh yeah mitch carver like relative to backup catchers has been pretty good
so yeah uh i would be very interested in them uh resigning him this winter to be their backup
catcher especially if they are going to wind up trading harry ford all right tom has our final
question of the day we know the front office prioritizes deadline moves for guys with years of control
gino and nailer are great fits but they're both renting
Who are some targets more in line with our previous splashes at the deadline like Luis Cascio and Randy or Rosarena?
There are none.
At least there are none that I feel confident in saying are going to be available that are going to have anywhere close to the impact that a Josh Nailor or Gino Svarez would have for you or Willie Castro.
Because even if we're talking about like Luis Robert, you have to view him as a rental because if he doesn't pan out for you very quickly, you're not picking up that $20 million club option.
you're not no uh yeah i mean you're you're looking at like there's just no club control third
basement that is going to give you the value of the gino there's you know like maybe there's a
veni past contino but he's not quite the castillo randy rose arena type guy and you're paying
more for that you're paying more for uh the years of club control than you are the actual impact
that he would provide and impact is still more important than club control especially where you
are right now.
But again,
because the Mariners do
generally prioritize club control,
hopefully that's a trend they break.
I did come up with one guy,
but there's kind of a huge caveat to that.
And it makes it yet again,
why rentals are probably the way to go.
And that's Taylor Ward of the Angels,
lots of power,
plays a corner outfield spot.
He's fine defensively,
not really getting on base this year.
but in the past he he's kind of the closest thing to Mitch Hanager in baseball right now where it's like
yeah he can either hit 30 home runs or he can hit 20 and have a high on base percentage and
and he's kind of opted for the for the former which I think is a bad thing and I think that hurt
Mitch Hanager's career when he did the same but whatever that's who he is and he's a fine defender
although obviously after all the injuries Hanager's defense went down the drain pretty quick but
he's very similar to the Mitch Hanager build he's under club
control through the rest of this year, obviously, and next year as well.
So just like Luis, he's got a year and a half left.
And he fits.
He's right-handed power that the Mariners need.
He fits, and he's very familiar with the division, and he's hit a lot in this ballpark.
Although I don't know if he's actually hit well at Team Mobile Park.
I didn't look that up.
But tons of experience, right-handed bat, fills a position of need.
And he should, should be available.
Yeah.
but there's the angels of it all.
And the angels have not made a trade with the Mariners since Jerry Depoto was hired.
And I don't know why we would assume that that would change.
And by the way, this is all on the angels.
It's not that Jerry doesn't want to make trades with the angels is that the angels don't want to make trades with Jerry.
So, yeah, he's kind of the guy.
That makes a lot of sense.
She checks a lot of boxes.
but the Angels,
maybe they do end up trading award,
but they're very fringe playoff contenders right now,
and they're not going to trade that guy to Seattle.
There were maybe rumors last summer or in the winter
that they were trading him to Pittsburgh,
and then that just never happened.
I think he's probably available.
I just don't know if it's to Seattle,
and that's the problem.
Like another, like,
Brian Reynolds,
but like with that contract,
that he still has left and how much he's like yeah now i would say the the one variable here
uh is uh or are the Tampa Bay raise always yeah uh because yadi diaz is club controlled
next year brand allows brand allows club control next year people fairbanks is club controlled next
year uh so maybe even taj bradley if they're willing to to trade stuff if they're willing to sell
some stuff uh which maybe they are because the race
have always just been willing to
talk about whatever the best deal
is no matter what their situation is
and now they've fallen out of their playoff spot
for the time being
maybe they're at a point now where they would be willing
to do that. We'll see.
Yeah, I think
specifically the club control
aspect. Yeah.
There's not a lot of bats.
Yeah. There are a couple of starters
but there are definitely a handful of relievers
who could have like the Griffin Jacks.
of the world.
Yeah.
For example, who have multiple years of club control.
Those are guys that sure you can go get.
But in terms of bats with more than one year of club control, more than two months of club control,
there's just not a lot of impact there.
And the very few guys I could find, like they have major red flags.
And in particular, Ward is such a good fit.
And he just plays for the angels, unfortunately.
So it's just unlikely.
So this is my.
my biggest concern about this team and this deadline is the fact that we haven't seen them shop
for high profile rentals.
It's the one thing we haven't seen them do.
They have been very aggressive at the trade deadline, but they haven't done specifically this,
but ultimately this is what you have to do this year.
If you are going to add real meaningful impact to your ball club this summer, it has to be
via rentals unless there is someone getting traded that,
we're not expecting to get traded.
Yeah.
And sometimes there is. I mean,
Devers already this year.
So,
but yeah,
there is obviously like a little bit of smoke there
that kind of led to that. Yeah.
Right. But yeah, sometimes there is.
Sometimes there's not. But
yeah, I think
you know, the one thing to keep in mind
there, if you want a little bit of hope
slash cope,
is that the Mariners
have never gone into a deadline where they've
had three of their four best players all having career years or close to it.
Yeah.
You know, and they've, they've never had, you know, they've never been this far along in
their window and Jerry DePoto's never had a hotter seat than he does right now, we think.
So there are some factors that might make this.
And it also like just the market in general.
Well, and also this is probably the, I mean, I feel pretty confident saying that this is the deepest this farm system.
has ever been.
Absolutely.
How many good prospects do you really need?
I said this on the radio last night when I was on KJR.
How many good prospects do you need?
You might have added three, maybe even four new top ten prospects on Sunday and Monday.
You just added the best player in the draft according to the organization and Kate Anderson.
You added Luke Stevenson, who's going to be a top 10 guy.
You added Nick Becker to what is, I mean, a lot of people consider already head.
heading into the draft the best farm system in baseball baseball america has nine of your guys in
their top 100 right now and that's probably only going to grow once they add the the draftees as
well so like how many good prospects do you need yeah so use them use them to your advantage
and uh because you you are in position to outbid literally anyone at this trade deadline
and your farm system is still going to be in an incredible
spot even if you have to trade something that is going to sting to trade for two months of
a eugenio swarez or josh nailer the mariners could trade five of their top 12 guys this deadline
yeah and still have a top 10 farm system yeah like it is insane the depth and this is what
you build it for to spend it and by the way you talk about well like oh well you know gino's only a rental
and it's like, okay, well, how long do they need Gino?
No.
Like you have Williamson who showed some stuff.
You have Cole Young coming up.
It looks like he's ready to take the step.
Emerson is developing nicely.
Like, you have guys who are stepping up and they're filling in.
And you know that with Anderson, you know, could they trade a pitcher this winter?
Sure.
I mean, they're probably already going to try and trade Louise.
But, you know, and they have these guys.
Like, this is the time right now is the time to push your chips in.
And so it's different.
Like there's very little excuse for them not to do it this year.
And it really is probably going to come down to how much grace, I guess,
how much leeway ownership is going to give this front office.
And we know in the past that ownership has slowed down what this front office wants to do.
So we'll see if it happens again this summer.
I don't know.
But it is worth noting.
And I'll just throw this out there.
And I know we got to get out of here.
And it comes from Bob Nightingale.
So.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But he said he has said that
GMs across the
executives across the baseball
expect the two highest rated
prospects to be traded this summer
are going to be Owen Casey
and Harry Ford.
If that's true,
the Mariners are in a position to clean up
because Harry Ford is, I think in my last check,
the seventh best prospect
in the Mariners system.
That's not.
Las, that's not even Michael Oroyo, and they should be willing to trade those guys.
So the idea that the Mariners can't trade for player X because he's a rental need to be too
expensive, hogwash.
It's absolute BS.
They can trade for whoever they want.
They just have to be willing to pay the price.
Anybody who's available that the Mariners want this summer, they can outbid anybody.
It's just a matter whether or not they have the nerve to do it.
And they should, but I guess we'll find out.
Again, Harry Ford is one of the best prospects traded this summer.
The Mariners should walk away with pretty much everything on their shopping list filled.
Again, it's just the one thing that they haven't shown a willingness to do.
Yep.
And until they do, assume they won't.
It's fair to assume they won't.
I'll believe it when I see it.
Yep.
All right.
That is going to do it for our show.
