Here's your host, D.C. Lunberg.
You know, gang, I am really glad that this week is over.
Welcome to Locked-on Mariners, the Better Late Than Never edition,
the Saturday morning, which was supposed to be Friday edition of Locked-on Maritors.

Well, gang, on a Wednesday, I thought I was feeling better, but listening to Thursday
morning's show, which was recorded Wednesday,
Now, it was still obvious that something was still very, very off.
I tried to go back to work on Thursday and just, it just did not work.
As my boss put it, I work in a petri dish.
And, you know, I guess in a sense I do.
I'm a daycare teacher.
So there you go.
So I did not go to work on Friday.
And I wound up sleeping half the day, which obviously I needed.
I am now recording this at quarter after midnight on Friday night, Saturday morning,
about 28 hours later than I should have.
So I have two games to catch up on after I'm done rambling here.
We'll get to the first one.
Thursday, September 17th was the second game of a two-game series.
Originally planned to take place in Seattle,
but it was moved out of Seattle to San Francisco
because of the air quality in the area not being very good.
And as a matter of fact, the game before this,
the first game of the two-game series was the first game ever.
that the Mariners were the home team in and away ballpark.
The Mariners have hosted a couple of different teams at Safeco Field,
who were technically the home team.
The two that I remember were the Florida Marlins,
who had to be displaced because of a U-2 concert a few years ago.
I don't remember how many years ago.
The whole series was moved from Miami to Seattle because of that concert.
I went to one of those games,
and then the Cleveland Indians as part of,
a double header and that was fun. I went to one of those Marlins games and I went to the entire
double header. The Mariners were the away team in the first part of the double header and then
the second game began, I think in about 20 minutes after the end of the first game.
And they were the home team that day. I think that they also hosted the Kansas City Royals who
acted as the home team prior to that. I don't have any recollection of that. But I remember
them talking about that during the Marlins series. I am getting way off topic.
Thursday, September 17th, in whatever the hell park in San Francisco.
I don't remember the name quite honestly.
Nick Margievichus started for the Mariners, not one of his better efforts, although he did go five
innings, five hits, three runs, all of them earned, three walks, not so good, three
strikeouts and a home run.
Giants starter didn't last very long.
Tyler Anderson only went two innings, gave up four hits and four runs, all of them
earned, three strikeouts, only the one walk.
Those four runs are the only runs the only runs the Mariners would score that day.
They all came in the second inning.
First one was on an RBI single from Tim Lopes.
Kyle Seeger scores on that play.
Philip Irvin then drove in Ty France with an RBI single of his own.
And then J.P. Crawford hit a two-run single,
scoring Lopes and Irvin.
The Giants had scored on the top of the second inning.
That was a Darren Ruff solo home run.
Giants would tack on a couple more in the,
Sixth inning to get them to within one run, four to three Mariners' advantage at that time.
In the top of the seventh inning, however, Wilmer Flores hit a two-run triple to put the Giants ahead by one,
and then Flores would later single on an Alex Dickerson single to get the score to that six to four final.
The Mariners would wind up staying in California.
They were supposed to go home to play the Padres.
They went to San Diego instead, even though the air quality in Seattle is.
improving, still not good enough to play baseball in or to do much else outdoors, really.
And as a side note, the air quality in Spokane is a little worse than it is in downtown
Seattle right now, but we're still doing okay. I hope you are where you are at home also.
Friday's ball game was against the San Diego Padres, as I mentioned, in Petco Park.
Mariners are the home team here as well.
You say Kikuchi started for the Mariners, and we've kind of grown accustomed to these
Starks Bay Kikichi, again, not very good. He lasted only four innings, four hits, five runs,
all of them earned, three strikeouts, a home run, and this is what you got to watch out for with
Kikichi. He puts a lot of runners on base, a lot of free runners on base, and he did that six times
in this ball game, six walks for Kikichi. Brendan, Brennan came in for two innings of no-run
ball, struck out three, only gave up one hit, and then Walter Lockett finished with the final three
innings, two hits, one run. It was earned on a home run and one strikeout. So the bullpen
was pretty good on this day, and you say Kikin-shee was not. We've kind of gotten used to that.
Padres score one in the third, four in the fourth, and that's where Kikichi left and then
tacked on one more in the ninth. Manners didn't score until the eighth inning, and it was an
Evan White home run. Mariner's only scored three hits all day. Two of them were had by
Evan White. And the other one was designated hitter
Ty France, who's been very good ever since coming over
from the Padres.
Rewinding now to Thursday to tell you how the Astros did.
And unfortunately, they won. They beat the Texas Rangers
2 to 1 on a two-run home run from Kyle Tucker,
which was hit in the second inning. The Rangers scored
one in the seventh. So at that point, the Astros,
pardon me, have a three-game lead over the Mariners
for the second spot in the Western Division.
With the Mariners losing on Thursday,
with the Mariners losing yesterday,
the Astros also lost to the Diamondbacks six to three.
So the Mariners did not lose any ground on Friday,
but they did on Thursday.
They remain three games back of the Astros
for the second spot in the American League West,
which is good enough for a playoff spot this year,
which is kind of ludicrous,
but hey, that's the way it is.
Even though it is Saturday,
we will get to the Friday mailbag on the other side of this break,
no mariner's trivia question for the day.
And we now have an advertisement from Roman.
Talking about ED, ladies and gentlemen, is not easy.
And if you've listened to my previous ads for Roman,
you know that that is the truth.
People who suffer from it, I guess just usually brush it off and say things like,
yeah, I lost my mojo.
Or you say things or avoid it altogether with excuses like,
I had a long date worker and just not feeling it today.
Or at least that's what I've been told in these notes that I'm reading here.
With Roman, however, it is easy to talk about with a real healthcare professional who can prescribe real medication.
Once again, I'm not a healthcare professional.
I'm a daycare teacher.
It's simple, safe, and totally discreet to talk with a healthcare professional.
It would be discreet if you talked about it with me, but I would say, you know, talk to somebody at Roman.
With Roman, you can get a free online evaluation and on-
ongoing care for ED, all from the comfort and privacy of your home.
A health care professional will work with you to find the best treatment plan.
If medication is appropriate, Roman will ship it to you with free two-day shipping.
The whole process is straightforward, simple and discrete.
Sorry, bad joke.
Getting started is simple.
Just go to get Roman.com and complete an online visit.
ED used to be tough to tackle, but now there's Roman.

If you've got a question or comment, send it to Lockedon Mariners at gmail.com,
and I will consider using it for the Friday mailbag segment,
or whichever day I publish a mail segment in this particular case.
Once again, questions about anything.
and doesn't need to be baseball related.
It's just got to be appropriate for broadcast.
That's the only stipulation that I asked for in writing to me.
Last week we had a question about music,
which we spent a great deal of time on.
Rock and roll is one of my passions,
so any questions about that,
I would be glad to answer them.
Send any question or comment you may have to Lockedon Mariners at gmail.com.
And the mailbag segment will be on the other side
of this very important announcement.
Now time for the second half of Locked on.
on Mariners. Once again, your host, D.C. Lunberg. Yes, indeed. Thank you very much, Joey Martin.
We are back here on Locked-on Mariners. Email segment time, even though it is Saturday.
Kind of a holdover from what was supposed to be yesterday's show. So we are going to read the
listener emails that were sent to me. Don't have that many this time, but that's okay.
First one comes to us from our old friend, John and Fife. And he is referencing something
that John Miller said when he was guest hosting the program. He
made up a bizarre excuse as to why I wasn't on the program when in reality I just, you know,
had his stomach flu or something like that.
He said that I'd gotten a hang nail in a thumb wrestling competition or something like that.
John's question is, what was it like to win the thumb wrestling championships?
Oh, I'm glad that our listeners have a sense of humor.
I didn't even know how to answer that question.
Again, I just had his stomach flu and just was really, really, really tired throughout most
of the week and, you know, starting to get better, slow.
half the day today, plan on sleeping about, you know, 38 of the 48 hours over the weekend,
so I'm ready for Monday.
In terms of thumb wrestling, I don't know if I would be very good, to be honest.
I'm getting a serious answer to a ridiculous question I just realized.
I'm just going to move on because I don't know what to say.
Second question comes to us from Aidan Soames, our old friend Aidan Soans from East Hampton,
Connecticut.
He asks, do you think the Astros will fall to third place in the American
League West, or will they pick up the past and keep the Mariners, you know, playoff, no playoff
streak intact? I think I went over this on one of the earlier programs this week. I don't remember
if it was Wednesday mornings or Thursday mornings program, but the Astros have something of a soft
schedule going down the stretch. They play the Rangers a bunch of times, and the Rangers are
awful. Mariners and Astros also meet head-to-head for three games, and unfortunately,
the Mariners have not fared well against Houston this year, but they do have to win at least two of
three of those games, in my opinion, to have any chance whatsoever.
The Mariners play the Padres, who are very, very good.
They play the A's who are very, very good.
The Mariners actually have a much tougher schedule than the Astros do going down the stretch.
So unfortunately, Aden, I have to say that I give a very, very strong advantage to the
Houston Astros in this sense, and it really just comes down to which teams the two teams
are playing.
Only one more question in this go around, and it comes to.
us from somebody who didn't leave a name or hometown, and they have a very simple question,
did you ever play baseball? Not on a team other than a YMCA, a T ball team when I was seven,
which obviously doesn't count. No, I never played on a team, but I did play a lot. I would go to
the ball field quite a bit with my friends and we hit the ball around, hit each other ground
balls, pitch to each other, but that's basically the extent of my baseball playing.
Growing up, I was really lazy in high school, and I had an inkling to try out for the baseball
team, but I was a really bad student. I was a really lazy student. So even if I was to make the team,
my grades would have kept me off of the team because I was that lazy and I was pulling in
not good grades. Let's just put it that way. So no, I never played on a team, which is something that
now that I'm 35, I really regret that I didn't at least give it a shot. So there you go. And that's
it for this week. I didn't get that many emails, but that's okay. If you have a question or comment
that you would like me to read for next week's mailbag segment,
send it into Locked-on Mariners at gmail.com,
and remember, it need not be a baseball question or comment.
We will be back on Monday to recap the final two games
of the Mariners Padres series
and to update you on how the Astros are doing,
hopefully not very well.
In any case, I will be joined on Monday
by Sergeant Nick Yamana, Sprocket,
and a bag of sunflower seeds.
