On Saturday, the Mariners announced their top 50 players in team history.
Today, we're going to draft teams of the players who didn't make the cut.
Colby, hit it.
You are Locked-on Mariners.
Your daily Seattle Mariners podcast.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Ahoy, Sailors, it is Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
My name is Tiding Azales, and I'm joined as always by my co-covee.
Colby Patnode.
This episode is brought to you by Calci for a limited time,
download the Calci app and use.
is the promo code locked on.
That's LOC, KED, O N, to get $10 when you trade 10.
On today's show, we're going to draft two separate teams consistent
to players who didn't make the Mariners top 50 players list this past weekend.
We'll be going back and forth, taking players to fill out a roster made up of two starting
pitchers, two relievers, a catcher, a first baseman, second baseman, third baseman,
shortstop, three outfielders and an extra header to be the DH.
Now, for a lot of those spots, you know, we'll be taking players who had a real argument
to make the top 50 list,
but at least a couple of those spots
we'll probably have to dig it a little bit deeper.
Yeah, yeah, we'll probably have to dig a little bit deeper
at some of those spots.
So it should be fun though.
Now, we're not going to do a free-for-all
where I can, for example, take a left-fielder first
and Colby can take a shortstop first.
We're going to go down the list of positions and draft accordingly.
So let's start with the pitchers, Colby.
Who's the first starting pitcher you're taking?
Yeah, just, you know,
The reason we're not doing the free for all is that it's really hard to track and follow.
So, yeah, it's just easier this way.
But for starting pitchers, I think this guy is one of the probably three or four best, like most obvious snubs.
So I don't think this will surprise anybody.
But how Marco Gonzalez didn't make this team or this list, I don't really know.
He was here for seven years.
He was part of the pre-rebuild.
He stuck with the team through the rebuild.
and then he even saw some success with the team post rebuild.
And he was just a professional.
He's one of the all-time great dudes.
And apparently great dudes and being like a really great guy,
do factor into this list for a couple of different players.
And Marco is one of those guys.
He was an opening day starter for you.
He pitched for seven years.
He gave you about 900 innings of like really quality baseball while he was here.
Again, not a star, never an all-star, really only had like two really good years.
and the rest were okay, relatively speaking,
but the longevity of Marco and, you know,
kind of the help he provided going from pre-rebuild
and transitioning all the way to winning
and being, you know, a key cog in that all along the way.
I felt like that was pretty overlooked by the Mariners.
And I don't know what his vote total was.
I don't know, you know, what percentage of our vote
actually counted towards that we don't know, right?
They didn't really share that.
We know that it wasn't everything.
But I just,
I was,
I was pretty disappointed that Marco,
I didn't make the team.
And I,
I think we all know the one guy,
he probably should have made it over,
but we are not here to rehash the guys who did make the list.
All right,
we're not here to complain about that,
although,
you know,
what are you doing?
Colby not wanting to complain.
What?
Well,
I mean,
this is not a celebration,
Ty.
You're celebrating a deep and rich history of the Seattle Mariners.
So Marco Gonzalez definitely should be a top 50 guy.
I think that was one of the,
I would say probably one of the top three obvious snubs that we got over the weekend.
But, you know, again, we're shouting you out here, Marco.
So thanks for everything you did.
And, you know, I do think you actually have like a borderline Mariner Hall of Fame case to be made one day.
But anyhow, Marco Gonzalez, my number one pitcher snub, starting pitcher snub.
I'll be taking Mike Leak, no.
Wade Miley.
I'm going to take Matt Young, who, yeah, I wasn't watching ball back in the 80s, surprise, surprise.
So I don't know much about Matt Young, but obviously top 15 and FIPP, top 15 all time and F4,
just one of the more valuable pitchers, starting pitchers in Mariners team history through almost thousand innings.
Also pitched a little bit out of the bullpen for the Mariners.
So I'll take Matt Young here.
But outside of Marco, really, there wasn't anyone that,
I felt needed to be on this list.
I thought they did a really good job with the starting pitchers.
So this is one of those areas that I mentioned where we're going to have to dig a little bit deeper here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That makes sense.
I would agree with that.
I think they did a pretty nice job at most positions at getting the guys who had to be there in there.
So for my number two could go a couple different ways here.
I could kind of go more longevity or I could kind of go like.
bigger impact like when they actually played here.
So yeah,
I do have a couple honorable mentions here,
but I'll get to them after you,
you know,
make your second pick.
But I'll go Jason Vargas.
Again,
was actually a snub.
No,
I mean,
like fine,
whatever.
I don't think that you should put him in
over anybody who made it.
But again,
we're drafting teams here.
We got to dig a little bit deeper.
Vargas to me,
four seasons here in Seattle,
gave you 700 inning,
roughly of really quality baseball.
He had two, two and a half wins seasons.
And I like crafty lefties.
So you know what?
Jason Vargas and that nasty cutter,
he made squad over a couple of other guys.
Based mostly on the longevity and the, again,
700 really good quality innings from a guy is
definitely something that has value.
And it's part of the reason why I had him on my list
over a couple of other guys that definitely have similar cases to be made.
So there are a lot of different guys that I could go with here.
There's like 10 guys, frankly, that are just kind of bunched together here that I could go with.
And actually, I'm going to change my pick from the first time that we did this recording because breaking it and shut up.
But breaking new stream here, I'd reset on us mid recording.
Are you going to steal my honorable mention?
Surprise, surprise.
So I'm actually going to go with someone else here.
I did pick Aaron Seeley the first time that we did this.
But I'm going to change it.
I'm going to go Doug Fister here.
Okay.
Yeah, Doug Fister, I mean, like, when you just look at the numbers,
now he didn't throw a ton of innings in Seattle.
So if you want to, if you think that someone with more longevity here is like,
yeah, if you want to go with someone who has more longevity here,
that's fine.
Like, I wouldn't blame you on that.
And there's a bunch of guys here that are kind of like in the same grouping that
that do have more more time in Seattle than Fister.
but like, Fister, top five and walks per nine all time in Mariners team history, top 10 and ERA, top 15 and FIPP.
Like, dude was really good when he was here.
So, yeah, I'll go Doug Fister.
Just wasn't here for a very long time.
But, yeah, I certainly don't have a problem with that.
I loved watching Doug Fister pitch.
So, yeah, that was, that's a good pick.
My honorable mentions I did have Aaron Seeley was here, big part of the 2000 and 2001 team.
He was solid.
He was a five-win pitcher combined in those two years,
had a third year with Seattle a couple years later.
It didn't go particularly well.
But Sealy, you know, a very important part of the best two-season stretch in Mariners history,
which I know isn't great, but he was a big part of that.
And, you know, he has also a Northwest guy.
So I do think that that carries some little extra weight here.
And then the other guy, Brian Holman, who almost certainly makes this list.
if he didn't get hurt.
He, in about two and a half years with the Mariners,
he was worth eight wins,
be war-wise.
He almost threw a perfect game.
He was rock solid.
He actually looked like very early on.
He was the key piece to the Mark Langston trade,
and that was the guy you're going to build your rotation around.
You know,
unfortunately,
Brian got hurt and this other,
you know,
this other guy named Randy Johnson kind of emerged after that.
He never heard of them.
Yeah, so,
yeah,
Holman probably makes this team of,
doesn't get hurt. You know, Chris Basio, I know through a, you know, no hitter here and he paid up a bunch of
inning. So again, there are a bunch of guys in the Vargas, Seeley, Basio Fister. Like, there's probably like
50 different guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, I mean, like, there's a bunch of the same guys. But again,
I think head. Yeah, a lot of guys. Yeah. I would say that the Mariners did a pretty good job with
getting the right pitchers, starting pitchers on this top 50. Although, again, there was just the one that I was
like, yeah.
But he's probably like in that list with the with the Cilis and the
Vargas is anyway. So just kind of like they picked one.
We're talking about Joe L. Panero. Yeah.
I think they just picked one out of that group and they're like,
this is the guy and it's like, okay, I mean, fine.
Like he's not that much better than like or that, like he's in the same vein as
Vargas or Holman or Ceeley and Fister.
So it's not a huge deal. But yeah, it's,
to pick any of those guys over Marco,
what are we doing?
Love Marco.
All right.
We're in the reliever section now of the draft.
Go ahead.
Take Jeff Nelson.
I should.
I gave you the first pick.
You are going to have the better team here.
Yeah, I know.
But I don't want to pick Jeff Nelson.
But I'm going to because he's Jeff Nelson.
And he has more games.
He's pitching to more games than any pitcher in Mariners history.
And he was really good when he was here.
And he's one of the best set up men in Major League history.
So I feel like.
like you have to go Jeff Nelson. He, along with Marco, is one of those three guys that is just like,
how did this guy not make your top 50 team? So I know a lot of people kind of associate Nelson
with the Yankees more than the Mariners. And Jeff Nelson was at Yankees old timers day or whatever.
So maybe he declared his allegiance there too. But yeah, Jeff Nelson absolutely deserves to be on this
team. It's really a no-brainer. I mean, if you're going to have Arthur Rhodes, who does deserve
to be on this team, by the way, you have to have Jeff Nelson. They were like a tandem that
really set up pause and really did some great things in the early 2000.
So Jeff Nelson's a no-brainer.
I can't believe he didn't make this team.
Yeah, same.
Same.
That was one of the biggest snubs of the entire list.
My pick here will be Matt Brash.
Okay.
Interesting.
That makes sense.
Obviously, like post-injury, post-surgery, it hasn't been anywhere near as good, especially
this year.
But he's still like really good.
And I mean, like, pre-surgery.
Was there a reliever in baseball that was nastier or the mat?
Brash when he was on his game when he was 100th percentile Matt Brash.
Like, dude was disgusting.
You know, you think about, you know, Aaron's call, corkscrewing Jose Ramirez into the earth and all that.
Like what Matt Brash could do to some of the best hitters in the entire game, some of the best hitters this sport has ever seen in its existence was incredibly impressive.
And I hope that, you know, one day we can eventually get back to see.
in that version of Matt Brush.
But yeah, I think
for that, just the talent
alone, but then you add in like his importance
to the specific era of Mariners
baseball as well. Like he, he should
be on this list. And,
you know, yeah, he's on my team
here. Yep.
So one more reliever each.
That's correct.
Yep. One more reliever.
Oh, so many guys. Now we got to, now we got to dig deeper.
But like, yeah, there are a lot of guys that would
be fun here.
Yeah.
Yeah, like a lot of, mostly a lot of guys with very short Mariner track records that were just amazing when they were here.
So how about you go first on this one?
You want me to go first?
Yeah, you go first on this one because I have like six honorable mentions and I'm hoping to take one of them out for me.
Okay.
Well, I'm running into a similar problem as you here.
So I'm going to, I'm going to go, I'll make a pick though.
I'll go with the bartender.
I'll go with Tom Wilhelmson.
He was there on Saturday or Friday.
I forget.
But they showed him on the big screen.
Yeah, he was on my little mentions.
It was funny, though.
A little disrespectful to how they were like,
hey, Tom Will Humpson's in the,
in Eggers and Charlie Furbush is
right there next to him.
And they said nothing about him.
We got to get Charlie on the broadcast a little more.
He was really good in spring training.
So I'm a little surprised there's not.
We should get Charlie.
on the pod, actually. I mean, we've got a bunch
of lefties already committed. How many more can we take?
But yeah,
Tom was on my list.
A couple other guys here. I'm just going to give you all of them, and then I'll pick one.
Paul Seewald.
Yeah.
Oh, my God. You know, we're stupid.
We're so stupid. Edwin Diaz didn't make the list.
Yeah, Diaz is where I was going to go.
Okay, okay. Yeah, all right. Hold on.
I'm sorry.
Oh, you want to take Edwin Diaz?
Yeah, I'm stupid.
I'm so stupid.
Well, that's why I say.
They're like, really?
Okay.
I totally forgot that he didn't make.
You're going to take crash over?
Okay.
I totally forgot that he didn't make the list.
Because like that,
that should be a no brainer, right?
Like he should have made the top 50.
He was only here for what, two years.
But like, okay, but still.
Yeah, yeah.
But still.
Yep.
Yep.
So you want to start the whole thing over again or just you want to start?
No, no, no.
We're, we're going to, we're going to keep it rolling here.
But like, wow.
Yeah.
To those of you watching that are probably like,
have been screaming at your screens or at your radio
or whatever you're, you know,
listening or watching on right now,
like for the last few minutes,
I'm sorry.
I just,
I assumed for a second there that,
that Edwin Diaz had made it,
which he,
yeah,
he did not.
That's crazy.
I was hoping you would take Diaz when you took Brash and then I was like,
okay,
well, let's give him another one and then he'll take Diaz,
so I don't have to.
And again,
it's not because I don't want to take Diaz,
it's just because I wanted to mention Paul Seawald.
And David,
Ardsma and Fernando Rodney and Shigotosi Hasigawa and Tom Wolhomson.
So there's just, those are all the guys on my list.
So if you're taking Diaz, then I will take, I'm going to because we have to.
We are contractually obligated to do this.
I will take Fernando Rodney, although Paul Seawalt is floating around out there for a
potential second tour of duty with the Seattle Mariners.
So I'll take Fernando though, just the, I know it was a brief time here, but it was.
a lot of fun and he was very, very good.
So I'll take Fernando Rodney.
I can't believe. We just
completely forgot about Edwin Diaz.
I mean,
I said go ahead and take
Jeff Nelson and you took Jeff Nelson.
Well, I think Nelson is more deserving than
Diaz. He was here a lot longer.
I mean, yeah, but like, I don't know.
He was here a lot longer and he was very, very
good. Those Edwin years are
so good. Like, so good.
The one where he had like 50 saves,
like whatever.
I mean, still empty.
Look at me and my team plays a lot of close games and I'm good.
So I just get to rack up saves at a ridiculous number.
Wow.
Wow.
Look at Ty over here.
Sipping pain for saves guy over here.
Right, right, right.
Yeah.
As I took Fernando Rodney.
Canadian baseball.
Canadian baseball legend Fernando Rodney.
Hey, man, that's all right.
Well, that was a big whoopsie on our part there, but at least on my part, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah, whatever, whatever.
But hopefully we don't have another big miss like that once we start to get into the position players here in just a moment.

Can we talk about one of the most underrated organs in your body?
Your liver.
It's your body's filter, processing everything you consume and performing more than 500
functions every day.
It's involved in things like energy production, digestion, fat metabolism, and
vitamin storage, so it's doing a lot of work behind the scenes.
That's why giving your liver daily support can be an important part of building healthy
habits.
Dose for your liver is a clinically backed liver health supplement designed to support daily
liver function. Unlike another capsule or powder, dose comes as a liquid two-ounce daily
shot that tastes like fresh squeezed orange juice. It's zero sugar, zero junk, and zero calories,
making it an easy addition to your daily routine. I'd probably take dose first thing in the
morning. I already have a routine where I'm grabbing coffee, checking my phone, and getting ready

and also thank you for making the lockdown

So now we're in the position player
part of our
all-time snub draft
or whatever you want to call it.
Top 50 snub draft.
So catchers, we're starting with the catchers.
Who are you taking?
There's two here.
Yeah.
Yeah, Zinino.
Pretty a no-brainer. A really great
defensive catcher hits a ton of home runs.
Honestly, the precursor to Cal Raleigh,
I mean, not 2026, Gao,
Raleigh, and also not 20, 25, cow Raleigh,
but 22, 23, 24 Cal Raleigh,
Mike Sineano walked so that that cow could run.
And Zanino had a three-year stretch here.
We used very, very good, actually.
You know, low average, but about a league average on base,
lots of pop and a really good defender.
Yeah, Mike Sineo, one of those guys,
I was a little surprised, didn't make the team.
So I guess I'll take Kenji.
Yeah.
Big Z was my guy that I wanted to see,
or one of them, you know,
one of the like fringe guys that I wasn't sure if he was going to make it or not and we talked to devish about that a couple weeks ago and he was one of the guys that he mentioned in that regard as well but uh you know the bearers frankly haven't seen a ton of great catching in their team's history obviously cal Dan all that but like xenino is often overlooked when like the dude was an incredible defensive catcher and also you know had some big time offensive moments and
What was the year where he was like really good, like legitimately really good?
Yeah, it was 2017.
You know.
Yeah, Juneino.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
So, yeah, Big Z.
That would have been my pick.
But yeah, I'll go with Jojima, who, who said.
You know, he had a couple of, you know, nice years here.
Yeah, he was solid.
Yeah.
Hope to see Zanino back at the ballpark in future years for the alumni home run derby.
He would be my pick.
Yeah.
He would be my pick as well.
Immediately easy pick.
All right.
So first base here, as we kind of.
I kind of got to go along.
Two options here for me.
I'm going to take the guy that I was stumping for four months ago,
which leaves the more obvious fan-friendly pick for you.
I'll go Tino Martinez should have been on this team.
Very good hitter, massive part of that.
Kind of the unsung hero of the 95 team.
He was so huge for that group,
but just obviously overlooked by Edgar and Jay and Griffey
and a young A-Rod and Randy Johnson and even Dan Wilson.
it's just like, God, this guy was really, really good in the middle of that lineup.
So I'll go Tino leaving the more obvious and fan-friendly pick for you.
Yeah, which is Thai France.
France obviously a big part of, you know, the best trade in Jerry DePoto's tenure as, you know, the mayor is GM slash president of baseball operations.
France is a one-time All-Star, unfortunately, you know, has that elbow injury and things kind of just go downhill from there for him.
But, you know, when he was cooking, he was awesome.
And he was such a big part of the turnaround for this club coming out of the,
coming out of the rebuild and in the drought.
So yeah, Thai France, no brainer there.
Yeah.
Kind of one of the what ifs of Merritt.
What if he didn't wreck his elbow on that play at first base?
He'd probably still be here because I'm pretty confident they wanted to keep him around
long term.
And then he just got hurt and then he couldn't really hit.
So nice to see him having a bounce back, career turnaround.
Yeah.
this year as well.
So, yep, easy guy to root for.
Second base, I had a couple options here.
Again, I'll go with kind of the, I'll go, this time I'll go with more of the fan favorite.
And I think that leaves a fairly obvious one for you.
I'm going to go Joey Cora as my second baseman.
Again, just because of the popularity of him with the fan base, I was kind of surprised he didn't make the team.
I'm not saying he should have, but I'm a little bit surprised he didn't just because he was wildly popular.
And if there is a managerial change, we will probably hear his name.
along with his brother's brought up as potential replacements.
But again, don't fall for the trap, guys.
Don't fall for that trap.
Are you willing to fire the franchise legend if you hire him?
But Joey Cora, yeah, second base.
And he was productive.
It's not just that he was a fan favorite.
He was a legit productive player here for a couple of years.
So I'll take Joey Cora.
So that leaves me with actually a couple of decisions here.
It's Jose Lopez or it's still a more.
Okay.
Interesting.
I had Jorge Polanco as my backup.
Ooh, that's also a good one.
Only the one really good year, but the number of big hits he had in that one year alone.
Very, very important player in Maris history, even just with that one year.
Yeah.
Yeah, Polos there as well.
I think I'm going to go Dimo, actually.
You know, we're Jose Lopez.
Mani is going to, mani's not going to like that.
But when have I ever cared about Mani's opinion?
But look at his WRC Plus.
He had like one good year, which.
is the same as Polo, but how many, how many playoff hits did Lopez have in his
mariner tenure? That's what I thought. That's what I thought. So third base, yeah, I'm not
going to let you take the favor this time. I'm going to take Gino, who is one of the three,
him, Marco, and Jeff Nelson. How the heck did they not make this team or this group? I have
no idea the, just the love affair Seattle has with Gino in general. Should have been enough
to carry him. But he was also a highly productive player for you.
for two and a half years and he was also greatly featured in all the videos that were playing
around the ballpark all day long on saturday and he had arguably he had arguably what the second
biggest hit in franchise history certainly the one that got them closer and further along down the path
to the goal than any other hit has ever gotten them yeah and it's kind of a similar thing to
to polo as well like where it shouldn't just be like the longevity it shouldn't just be what they did
on the stat sheet.
Impact.
Yeah.
Impact.
And there are very few players who have had as much impact as Gino had in as little bit,
in as little time as Gino actually had here in Seattle.
We talked about this, you know, last year when they acquired him with Gary, and just like,
who's the last player who had, who'd been here for such a short time that left that big of an impact on the city and on the franchise?
It's a very short list.
And so, yeah, the fact that that Gino didn't make it is a travesty, if we're being honest.
Agreed.
I'll go with another guy that I actually was a little surprised.
Didn't make it.
That's Mike Blowers.
Yep.
He was my other guy.
You know,
it was obviously,
you know,
a pretty big piece to the 95 season,
had an incredible 93 season with the team,
you know,
was on the broadcast for so many years,
like meant a lot to this organization for a really long time.
Yeah.
So I was really surprised to see that he didn't make the cut.
Yeah.
So,
yeah,
Yeah, like obviously like Gino's the guy that I think of here, but blow is a really nice pick here as well at third base.
Yeah, he's top five snub in my opinion.
Shortstop, a couple options here.
I'm going to go with the guy that I've always liked the most, Carlos Gien.
I think that probably leaves the better player for you, but also I don't care.
I'm not trying to win this.
I might be.
But like, Gian was just a really solid player for what, six years.
like and I know he kind of really didn't pop until he went to Detroit but he was just a really solid shortstop.
He was a pretty good defender got on base, a good amount switch hitter.
I like watching him play and he's just one of my favorites.
He's kind of JP before JP.
JP made the team, rightfully so.
But Gian kind of gets forgotten in that regard.
And he was also the guy who followed Arod.
Not the easiest thing in the world to do, but Mike Cameron gets a lot of credit for following Griffey.
Hean followed Arod and he held his own.
So I'm going to give Carlos Gaines some love here.
and take him as my shortstop.
So that leaves me with Gene Seguro.
Yeah.
You obviously, you know.
Didn't end well, but when he was here.
Yeah, a little bit of a rocky tenure in Seattle.
But obviously, yeah, it was good.
It was really good.
Just in terms of what he did on the field, he was an incredible player.
Yeah, incredible player.
Obviously, there's the Senzigerra campaign and all that as well.
You know, ultimately, you know, helped you get J.P. Crawford,
who wound up making the list.
Yep, yep.
Segura definitely worthy of conversation, that's for sure.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Well, coming up, we're going to pick our outfielders and our DHS and then get out of here.

So outfielders, how do you want to do
this? Do you want to do specifically left field,
center field, right field, or do you just want
to pick three outfielers?
I did specific positions, but
I think we're going to have to allow some flexibility
because I got to say the Mariners did a really nice job of cleaning up the outfield.
There's not a lot of.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I, you know,
I wrote down a couple of options for every position.
Yeah.
Right field.
Whoa.
Yeah.
That's,
I was like,
we might have to get a little creative here.
Yeah.
It's pretty much been each hero and not a ton else.
Yeah.
Part of me is like maybe I should have taken Polanco at second.
So I could have left DEMO for.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He was kind of on my like,
in case of emergency list,
like throw him in a position.
because it works.
But I'll let you go first so you can get your guy in left field.
Okay.
That is my gift to you.
Okay.
Yeah.
I mean,
it's between the two Randy's, right?
Randy when the more accomplished Mariner and it's time in Seattle.
But yeah, it's my guy.
So I'm taking Randy or Rosarana in left field.
I have to.
It's my guy.
Okay.
So again, because the outfield is pretty well picked over here for my left fielder,
I'm going to go with Tom Pachorick, who I didn't know a ton about going into this.
But he played four years here.
He was worth seven wins.
He made an all-star team.
He actually had a really good 81 campaign at 326, 379, 509.
So really solid four-year career here.
didn't, by the way, he did that in only 104 games.
So, yeah, solid player.
Again, Mariners did a really nice job of pick and clean the outfield for us.
So not a ton here.
One good year, though, good enough to make the leftovers team, so to speak.
So yeah, I'll go Pachorik.
So are you letting me get the first pick for center field then?
No, heck no.
I'm taking Randy win.
Okay, I was like, taking Randy win.
I was like, wow.
I was like you're giving me Randy.
No, you get one Randy.
I will take the other one.
I'm fair, fair, fair.
Yeah.
I'll take the Condor then.
I'll take Michael Sanders.
Yeah, he was my backup.
Yeah.
I was hoping that you wouldn't take him and I could snack him for right field.
Yeah, you know who my other backups for center field was.
Jeremy Reed.
That's how bad it is.
I was going to say, is it Kyle Lewis?
Leonis Martin
Yeah I mean yeah probably
So yeah
The Condor I was really hoping you would go like Leonis
Or
They would go Leotis so I could go
Saunders in in Wrightfield
Again the Mariners I cannot emphasize this enough
They did a really nice job
Picking over the outfielders
Because legitimately
Luke Rayley and Donkan Zone have an argument for
Rightfield
Yeah so right
field like
it's like Leon Roberts
that's who I turn
I took Leon Robert and I was like okay
if Ty takes them or whatever I'll throw Dylan Moore
in there but you took Dylan Moore to play second
I don't even know what to do
Taylor Ward
like I said legitimately
Canzone and Rayleigh do have cases here
that's the best remaining right
fielders I'm taking Leon
I'm going to take Dom Canzone
honestly
Jose Ian
Yeah.
Like I could take like
Indy Chavez.
Yeah,
you take like a me player.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The Mariners did an exceptional job
of just cleaning up the corner outfields
because there was really not a lot
and really not that many centerfielders either
that didn't make the team.
So the Mariners have a very good list of center field
or outfielders when you look at the top 50.
But it's a shallow list because that's it.
Like Randy,
the two Randy's were the only ones.
that I thought had like a real case to be made to be on this team who didn't make it.
And so after that, we sought to pick four more guys or three more guys, whatever it is.
So yeah, it, nice job by the Mariners on getting the outfield, pretty much dead on.
But Randy, the two Randy's definitely deserve some consideration there.
I'm sure we're forgetting somebody too, but I look hard.
It's like Rich Amarole.
I mean, like, what do we doing?
Vince Coleman, Ricky Henderson.
Carl Everett.
Milton Bradley
I did consider Jose Gien
but that just feels like taking a war guy
instead of taking like a top 50 mariner
you know what I mean like it just
you're trying to draft the best player
not like the best mariner so to speak
but yeah just not a lot of good options
but that does leave us with the DH
and there are options here
we could take a traditional DH which
there's still some decent options there
or we can just take a guy
take an extra pat yeah yeah because there's there's a couple names that we left off here
um i don't know do you want to go first here yeah i'm gonna take richie sexen
big richie all right he i know it didn't end well but his first two years here he was very very
good uh and i felt like he was always a little overhated and again he's his first two guys go look up
his first two years here in Seattle.
He was one of the best
first baseman in Mariners history during that stretch.
And I know there's Carlos Santana
maybe could be thrown around here,
Josh Naylor,
possibly, although not a lot of time here.
I had a couple other guys, but I'll wait for you to make
your pick before I tell you who they are.
I don't think they'll surprise too many people, but
I'll go Richie Sexton here is my DH, my extra hitter,
more or less.
I think I'm,
I think I might leave Polo off here.
Because I think I'm going to take Ken Phelps.
Yeah, he was on my list.
He raked when he was in Seattle.
Absolutely raked.
And he's part of the best joke in Mariners history.
That's true as well, yeah.
By the way, when I was at the photo day thing,
there was this guy that met Jay Biner and he was like,
I'm a big Seinfeld fan, so this is huge for me.
I was like, that's why this is here for you.
Cool, thanks, man.
but yeah i mean
ken phelps had what three seasons with a 140 plus
wrc plus in seattle
back in the you know mid to late 80s like that's yeah
all right so to recap uh my team
my starting pitchers were um matt young
and Doug fister my relievers were
Matt Brash and Edwin Diaz which
whoops again on that
my catcher
Kenji Jojima my first baseman
Ty France my second baseman Delamore
my third baseman Mike Blowers my shortstop
Gene Sagura my left fielder
Randy a Roserana
my center fielder Michael Saunders
my right fielder was Domcanzone
and
which I mean like
yeah
what we supposed to do
yeah my DH Ken Phelps
and then for you your starting
pitchers were Marco Gonzalez
and who was your second day?
Jason Vargas.
Jason Vargas, yeah.
And then your relievers were Jeff Nelson and Rodney.
Fernando Rodney.
Mike Zanino was your catcher.
Tina Martinez, your first baseman.
Your second baseman was Joey Cora.
Joey Cora, yeah.
Jino at third.
Gino at third.
Carlos Giana's shortstop.
Your left fielder was Tom Pachorick.
And then your center fielder, Randy,
when your right fielder was Leon Roberts.
Yep.
And then your D.H was Richie Sexton.
That is going to do it for our show.
