Before beating the Orioles last night, the Mariners unloaded a flood of news,
including a new piggyback plan that includes everyone in the rotation.
Let's talk about it. Colby, hit it.
You are Locked-on Mariners, your daily Seattle Mariners podcast.

Ahoy, sailors, it is Wednesday, June 17th, 2026.
My name is Tadding Gazzalus, and I'm joined as always by my host, Colby Patnode.
This episode is brought to you by Fanduel.
The biggest stage in world soccer is here.

On today's show, we've got a lot to talk about.
Mariners beat the Orioles 3 to 1 last night.
Logan Gilbert was awesome.
Cow Raleigh and J.P. Crawford returned.
Cowell with the game-winning hit,
and J.P. made his first ever start at third base.
Luke, Raleigh, and Josh Naylor were not in the lineup due to injury.
Randy or Rosarana landed on the I.L.
Right before first pitch.
So the Mariners called up,
Washington Jr. from High A. Everett just because they needed a body on the bench.
Crazy. So we'll talk about all of that. But perhaps the biggest piece of news that came out
yesterday is that the Mariners are going back to the piggyback. But this time around, it's going
to involve everyone. Every starter in the Mariners rotation is going to have at least one piggyback
outing at some point between now and the All-Star break. This was one of two plans that were
devised by Trent Blank, the Mariners director of pitching strategy, and presented to the
rotation.
And according to reports, the rotation unanimously agreed to go down this route.
So what do you think, Colby?
Yeah, it feels like the Mariners are once again just kicking the can down the road and being like,
oh, well, you know, we don't want to lose any of these guys to the bullpen, even though they
desperately need bullpen help.
And they're not getting any of it anytime soon with the other bit of news we got yesterday,
which I'm sure we'll touch on later.
So, yeah, I don't love it.
They didn't think they need to suck it up and put Louise in the bullpen already.
Kate Anderson is the sixth guy.
If somebody gets hurt, you don't have to worry about stretching out Luis back.
You don't have to worry about stretching Luis back out because you just call up Kate Anderson
and put them in the bullpen in that scenario.
But, you know, again, I knew they were going to do a piggyback again.
I said as much earlier in the week.
and even when we were joking around, you know, off, off camera about like, oh, they're going to call up Katie Anderson on Thursday.
No, we knew that they were going to piggyback.
We knew that they were going to continue to piggyback because they're not going to make a definitive decision on this thing anytime soon.
And it is a piggyback.
Now, everybody's participating in it.
And it does sound like it was much more.
It was communicated much better than the first iteration of this, which is the,
key here. So, I mean, on that sense, fine, whatever. The idea of, you know, protecting your
rotation is fine, I guess. Yeah. Especially considering, you know, Wu is missed time with injury every
year and Bryce missed pretty much all of last. He's not going to have his normal workload to work
with this year. And obviously, you know, George and Logan both missed time last year. Really,
Luis was the only healthy one. Yeah. So from that aspect, fine, whatever. It,
It should be noted that Luis is not going to be the guy who's piggybacking every time.
It is going to be Luis and Bryce.
They're going to piggyback on Friday, I believe, is the plan.
And then they're done with their piggyback duties in theory until the All-Star break.
They will just both be in the rotation.
They will just make their starts at which point, you know, I don't know how they're going to pair them up.
But like Logan and George will piggyback one start before the All-Star break, blah, blah, blah.
So, yeah, it's not just Luis or not.
just Bryce. They're only doing it one more time. And then the other four will, uh,
will pair up in some to be determined, uh, pairings. But, uh, yeah, you guys might have to do it twice.
We'll see. Yeah, I mean, they said, you know, three times through before the all star break,
but there's about four or five times through the rotation before the all star break. So,
you know, we'll see, uh, where they're at. But again, they'll just reassess it again.
And then I'm sure we'll get another very similar piggyback decision, uh, that'll go to the all
star break and then they'll reassess again after the all-star break like i i think the piggybacks here
for a while because they refuse to make a move uh one way or another but uh you know again at least this
one was was clearly communicated um and at least it's not just bryce uh who's having to kind
of shoulder the the load of the piggyback uh because he's actually the one who based on early
results needs it the least uh but uh yeah it's it's whatever it's fine it's better than
than the old iteration because they're spreading it around because it was communicated,
uh,
you know,
properly this time around.
So that's fine,
but I,
I still don't like it.
Yeah,
I'm still not a,
a huge fan of it,
but like if you are going to do it,
I think this is probably the best route to take with it.
It's the route that makes the most sense because if this is ultimately about keeping
guys healthy,
it doesn't really make sense to only do it with two of the six guys.
It makes the most sense to do it with everyone at least once.
And so you can manage it.
Brian Wu a little bit.
So you can manage Emerson Hancock a little bit.
Again, we've talked about Hancock specifically.
He's starting to inch closer to his career high and innings.
And Bryce, like you talked about with the injuries that he had last year,
Logan with the time that he missed last year,
George with the time that he missed last year.
Like, it makes sense to at least have these guys go through the piggyback once.
Sure.
Again.
Again, if you're going to do it, if you're going to do it.
Yeah, which really they're going to.
Yeah.
So from that standpoint, what is the route that makes the most sense?
I think it's this one.
All right.
Well, we got a lot of injury news yesterday from Justin Hollander.
We'll go over that in just a moment.
But first, a reminder, this episode of the Locktime Airs podcast is brought to you by Proton and five-hour energy.

So we got a lot of injury news to go over here, including Randy or Rosarana landing on the
injured list with the hamstring thing that he's.
stuppered back in Washington.
Now, the expectation was that Randy would be in the lineup last night.
However, they conducted an MRI, and that revealed a little bit more inflammation than they were expecting.
So they placed him on the IL just because they figured, hey, he's not going to be in the lineup the next couple of days.
We can retroactive this IL stent as well.
So he's only going to miss a few days.
And the expectation is that he's going to be back once the 10-day minimum is up.
so Randy not expected to be out for 2-2 long
but again he was expected to be in the lineup last night
so that does suck
and that led the Mariners
to call up Curtis Washington Jr.
from Hay Everett
because the rainiers are down in Salt Lake City
so they weren't able to get someone up
in time from Salt Lake
so they had to call one up from Everett
who was nearby.
So Curtis Washington was,
and junior spent the night in the dugout.
Would have been cool to see him get some playing time there,
but close game and all that.
So, you know,
there wasn't really an opportunity for a pinch running situation.
Canzone reached in the ninth,
yeah,
up three to one.
Canzone can't play defense.
So,
yeah,
that was the perfect time.
Instead,
you moved like rammed him.
Sure.
Because this is,
I mean,
I mean,
just to be blunt about it,
this is as close.
to major league action as Curtis Washington's ever going to get.
It's 26-year-old playing in high A hitting a buck 90.
Great guy.
Like the Mariners love him.
Great dude.
Probably a future for him in the org.
You know, whenever he decides to hang him up, they really like him.
But yeah, cool that, you know, he didn't even arrive to the game to like the third, fourth inning, something like that.
And so, you know, cool.
He got to hang out with the boys, being the dug out and all that.
it would have been even better if he had gotten an opportunity to play to get in that bat it probably would have had to be like 10 to nothing um so yeah uh cool moment for him unfortunately couldn't get into the game weird moment for the mariners where they'd call up a guy from high a yeah uh so you know it just just a wild like i don't know what three hours before the game uh not even i mean no not not when he got called up but like just like starting to
three hours before the game.
I got all the injury updates to the last minute scratch of Randy.
And then like,
Taylor's going to be a couple more days.
And oh,
by the way,
Luke Rayleigh's got back spasms now.
Yeah.
So as Randy is having his MRI done,
Rayleigh's back tightens up on him.
So he can't be in the lineup.
Because like we saw Rob Reff Snyder hitting fifth against a righty.
I don't care how bad you're banged up.
Rob Reff Snyder should never hit in the top five.
I know.
I know.
That's a whole other discussion there.
If he has to play, fine, hit him eighth.
Yeah, I don't, I don't, I don't understand why that was, that was the thing.
But yeah.
Yeah, that was silly to say the least.
But, you know, Hollander did his start of the homestan, you know, state of the union type of thing that he always does, right?
But he didn't mention Luke Rayleigh at all.
So we got the lineup.
And I'm like questioning like my eyes, because I'm looking at the MLB app.
and it says Brandon Young is starting for the Orioles
and he's a righty
and I'm like, what's going?
Why isn't Luke Rayleigh in the lineup?
And so I started asking around.
No one knew.
And then I guess it was like a last minute thing.
Again, it was during Randy's MRI that
Rayleigh is back tightened up.
So Hollander didn't even know that Rayleigh wasn't going to be
in the lineup when he was talking to the media in the dugout.
So yeah, so the injuries just continue to mount up for this team.
They get Cal Raleigh and J.P. Crawford back last night.
And yet Nailer is not in the lineup.
He's dealing with a wrist and shin thing right now.
He's not expected to be in the lineup for the next day or two still.
Yeah.
Yesterday was so crazy that we have yet to mention the all-time leader in games played at shortstop made his Mariners debut at third base in last night's game.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I figured we would get into that more so when we talk about the game in the third segment.
Right.
But I'm just saying like that's how wild it is.
Is that like JP moving a third, like the crown being passed.
Pretty far down the list.
It's like, I mean, that any other day, that's like half the show.
Yeah.
And today it warrants just like a brief mention.
It's a footnote because of all the other stuff that went down.
Yeah.
So yeah, just an absolute wild.
We also got injury updates on some of the key relievers.
None of them are particularly promising.
No.
So yeah, it just, man.
from like three to to six there was just nonstop mariner news not a lot of it was promising
started out pretty good jp and cal are back and then it all just kind of went down from there
uh so yeah wild wild news day crazy that crazy i mean didn't even really include any like long-term
roster moves it's like even curtis washington it's going back down today so it's kind of one of
those connor joe right yeah he left he got
scratch from the lineup yesterday in Salt Lake.
So he's on his way up.
He'll be at it today.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So shout out to Chris.
Shout out to Curtis Washington Jr.
Whenever we do the Sporkel quiz on like name every player on the 2026 Mariners,
Curtis Washington Jr.
I don't know if he's going to be like the guy we all collectively forget or if he's
going to be like one of those.
The person.
That immediately comes to your mind.
We'll see.
Obviously.
Yeah.
We'll see if he's been like Graham.
I mean at very least he's got a great story to tell for the rest of his life
but kind of a bummer that you can find a way into the game
they're always had an opportunity to give it to him but they're selfish
kind of uh no easy easy uh by the way the angels have designated for assignment
tray mancini so obviously there's your first he still he's still playing baseball
yeah he played he got to hit the other two hits I think he had the other day
But anyways.
Is his agent still Mark Rogers?
I don't.
Also, by the way, the Mariners signed Weston Wilson to a minor league deal.
That also happened kind of under the radar yesterday.
Weston Wilson, by the way, crush his left-handed pitching and he can play all around the field.
You might want to keep that name in the back of your mind because the way the Mariners are going,
he's going to end up being your starting third baseman in a couple of days.
I'll pass
I'll pass thanks
I mean well they like him more than Ryan Bliss
and apparently Patrick Wisdom
kind of interesting they called up Connor Joe
not Patrick Wisdom
they could do that because of the injury
technically not because Curtis Washington
Jr. was the call up due to the injury
I think yeah what I'm saying is they could have done it
but whatever obviously he's down in Salt Lake
I think I don't know if he's back with the team
because you have like three days to report after you're demoted.
Yeah, I don't know.
Anyway, whatever. It doesn't matter.
Wild day yesterday. Wild.
Yeah. And then, yeah, so the report on Matt Brash, Cooper, Chriswell, and Carlos Vargas
is that they are all tentatively scheduled for returns around the trade deadline.
So that doesn't even mean that they are going to be back by the trade deadlines.
Those are some key acquisitions, though.
We felt like we didn't have to go out into the trade market because in reality, we're like acquiring
Brendan Donovan and Matt Brash and Carlos Vargas.
Like, if you factor in those three.
We got a Brendan Donovan update as well.
Yeah.
See.
See.
So yeah.
I mean, if you factor in those guys, who had a better deadline than us in reality?
Just prepare yourself.
We're about seven weeks away.
If that is a bridge that we have to cross, I will cross it at the time that it needs
to be crossed.
I'd start laying down the groundwork right now because that's exactly what's going to happen.
Relax.
No.
You're trying to reverse, Jinks.
I know you.
I know your game.
Nope.
I see it through the lies of the Jedi.
I'm reading the future just like when I said Brennan Donovan was going to be a mariner.
It's so obvious.
It's going to happen.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
No one else thought that Brennan Donovan was going to be a mariner.
Only you.
No, everybody thought that.
That's what made it so obvious.
Just like everybody thinks that the marries would be like, oh, well, we added Bernardino.
Donovan at the deadline.
We added Matt Brash.
Let me tell you about our trade deadline acquisitions here.
Matt Brash, all-star reliever.
Sure, he's been on the aisle twice with the same lat injury.
Technically, I guess not different areas of the lap, but whatever.
But that's the matter.
He'll be fine.
Has he had Tommy, yeah, he had Tommy John a couple years ago, too.
Like, no, Matt Brash is fine.
But let me tell you this real upgrade we got.
His name is Ryan Sloan.
Oh, my God.
He's 20 years old, and of course he's going to be great.
I mean, he might be.
He might be.
Cool.
You know who is great?
Garrett Whitlock.
Go get him.
I remember when the Yankees added all those relievers and they all sucked?
I'm sure.
Yeah.
Sometimes stuff happens.
They tried.
Just so we got a brother.
Got a Brennan-Donna and update as well.
Did anything at the deadline and then they went to the World Series.
Remember when the Dodgers did very little at the deadline, but they went to the World Series?
But did the Dodgers too?
I don't know.
Who cares?
always do a little something.
Yeah, which at the time wasn't viewed as like a huge, like he was having a nice year,
but I was like, but then boom.
So anyway.
Anyway, yeah, Brennan Donovan is expected.
What was the report again?
What did Holland say?
He's starting his running progression yesterday.
Yeah.
And that's going to be seven to ten days just running, I guess.
Yeah, I think it's 10 to 14 days and then rehab assignment.
Rehab a sudden. And I would imagine they're going to take the full Monty on that. So I think
All-Star break. Yeah, I think All-Star break is like best case. You get them right before then,
but probably after the All-Star. Sometime between the All-Star break and the trade deadline,
if there's no setbacks. So. Right. Right. Yeah, not the most positive update, but also not really
surprising at all. At least we finally heard something about Brennan Donovan. Sure.
Kind of forgot he was on the Mariners still. Also, they kind of reiterated that like, yeah, he's going to move
around the diamond on his rehab assignment.
He's going to play everywhere.
We want to make sure first and foremost that he's good on the infield.
And then later on in his rehab assignment,
he'll move around into the outfield as well,
see how that feels. So they're going to use him as a super utility.
Still everyday player, mostly every day.
Yeah.
But more of a super utility role.
Like we kind of thought would be the best fit for him.
All right.
Well, let's switch gears here.
Let's talk about last night's game.
Mariners win three to one over the Baltimore Orioles.
Oh, yeah.
There was a game last night.
Yeah, that's right.
and Logan Gilbert looked like Logan Gilbert.
That was awesome.
Let's talk about it in just a moment.
But first a reminder of this episode of the Lockdown errors podcast,
it's brought to you by Nutraful and Fandul.
Baseball players are known for their routines,
whether it's a lucky jersey, a pregame ritual,
or sticking to the same preparation every day,
consistency matters.
And when it comes to hair thinning,
there can be a lot of products out there making promises,
but not always a lot of confidence behind them.
That's why more people are looking for solutions backed by real science and trusted experts.
Nutraful is the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement brand and the official hair growth partner of Major League Baseball.
What really makes Nutraful stand out is that it's not a one-size-fits-all approach.
It's designed to fit into your routine while addressing the root causes of thinning with personalized solutions.
I like that Nutraful acknowledges that everyone's solution is different.
Having formulas designed for different stages and needs makes a lot more sense than expecting the same
to work exactly the same for everyone.
And when I'm deciding whether to try something new,
I want to know there's real research and expertise behind it.
Knowing Nutraful is physician formulated, clinically tested,
and NSF certified for sport definitely helps build that confidence.
Find out why Nutraful is the only hair growth supplement brand trusted by MLB.

More goals mean more bonus bets.
All you have to do is turn on your token.
So I'd be looking at teams with high scoring offenses and superstar players.
You know, the Messies, the Messis, the Rinaldos, the Mappes, the Amales.
If you can find two or more of those guys on the same matchup, then you're really cooking.
The more aggressive, the better, the more chances created, the more opportunities for goals and more bonus bets.

Link in the description of this episode.
So Logan Gilbert last night against the Baltimore Orioles, Colby, Marys went three to one.
and Gilbert goes seven innings, just the second time he's done that this season,
gives up just one run on two hits, strikes out 10, walks just one,
only four hard hit balls for the Orioles all night long,
not just against Gilbert, but also against Bizarro and Munoz as well.
By the way, Bizarro, Munoz, looking pretty good last night on top of Gilbert.
But, yeah, this was vintage Logan Gilbert, despite the start not getting off to a particularly great.
start kind of looks like you know the Logan Gilbert that we've seen for most of the last 40 or so
starts from him where he was struggling to get put guys away in a timely fashion what he threw
24 pitches I think in the first inning somewhere in that range yeah and uh yeah didn't have high
hopes after that first inning gave up a run in that inning as well but from that point forward
he dominated and obviously you and I have both been very critical of Logan because we know
that Logan can be better than he has been over the last four years of
starts we know that dominant performances like this are absolutely possible for
Logan and they've just been so few and far between but that was really nice to
see last thing that fired me up how do you get it done well I mean like obviously
Cal Raleigh is the biggest reason Logan would tell you that himself you know
he had his best friend back yeah so now his best friend almost killed him
yes no it's fine I mean
But he's not accurate.
But he's not accurate.
So.
Logan's got a big head.
So what does he know?
Yeah.
It was pretty interesting watching live.
I felt like he was throwing more fastballs.
And I felt like instead of being at the top of the zone with the fastball, he was down
around the knees.
And when I went and I looked at it afterwards, he did throw more fastballs.
Logan's always been a kitchen sink kind of even distribution guy, over 50%
the fastball last night.
And I did, when I went back and watched some of it, a lot more attention was paid
to, you know, low strikes in the zone.
And when you go look at the heat maps, Logan throws a fastball up and then everything
else is down.
And so there's kind of this discrepancy where it's like, well, the pitch is elevated.
I know it's probably a fastball.
If it's coming out low, I know it's probably a breaking ball.
I'll lay off of the low stuff or, you know, I'll foul off the low stuff and then I'll
chase the fastball.
And the fastball hasn't been good.
It's been hit around quite a bit.
So if everything is going to the same quadrant, right?
If everything's down, down, down, down, down, it's one less, you know, tell of what pitch is coming.
Now, you know, it's not that easy, you know, obviously, like these are major league hitters and all that.
And just moving the fastball from up to down isn't going to change everything.
But it was something that I noticed more fastballs and more of them down, you know, around the knees instead of up around the letters.
I don't know if that was matchup base.
I don't know if that's something they want to try.
I don't know.
Don't know because it's worth noting that Bissardo and Munoz bolted the same thing.
They came in and they threw pretty much nothing about fastballs.
I think I think they threw like 24 pitches combined between those two guys.
And something like, you know, 18 of them were fastballs.
Now, Bizarre throws a sinker, it's a fastball.
Munoz threw a ton of fastballs.
So I don't know if that was, and by the way, they were all down in the same quadrant, low and away fastballs.
I don't know. Again, I don't know if that's a game plan based on something they saw on the Orioles or if that's just a cow-rolly thing being like, screw this, we're throwing the heater.
Well, it's definitely a different approach from Munoz than we saw the last time he threw against the Orioles where he threw, what, 16 sliders on 20 pitches?
Right.
Yeah.
And again, maybe some of this is like, hey, these guys just saw you.
And this is what we did last time.
So let's kind of do the opposite this time and see if that works.
Maybe that's part of it.
Again, maybe it's matchup base.
Maybe it's not.
Maybe this is something that the Mariners or at least Logan is going to try to do.
Work down in the zone instead of working up in the zone.
It leads to quicker out sometimes too.
And Logan was able to cruise after that.
One other thing I did notice is that Logan didn't throw a single cutter that entire routing.
He's been at 10% this year with that pitch.
Last night, 0% again, matchup based.
Or is this Cal Rale saying your cutter sucks?
I'm not calling that pitch.
which we know Cal is willing to do.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
He'll absolutely say that.
Yeah.
And statistically speaking, the cutter is terrible.
So I think, you know, the fact that he didn't throw a single cutter on the first night, Cal was back.
I don't think that's a coincidence, whether or not the fastball, you know, instead of trying to paint the fastball at the top of the zone, he was throwing it down more often last night.
I don't know if that was intentional or matchup based or something they're going to try going forward.
definitely looked different from Logan Gilbert last night,
threw more changeups than he only threw, I think, six splitters last night.
It was fastball slider heavy,
and then the changeup was actually the primary off-speed pitch,
not the splitter.
So yeah, it was a very interesting look from Logan.
Again, as we say, every time,
you have pitcher has to do it more than once before it's kind of like a trend.
But I did notice a lot more stuff down in the zone
and a less in a much less reliance.
on the splitter.
So, yeah, we'll see what that looks like in Logan's next outing, but again, no cutters
and just the drop in the fastball location from top rail to bottom rail, two things
that jumped out quite a bit last night.
Yeah, and just the efficiency overall, carving through that lineup from the second inning
onward.
I enjoyed it.
That's the Logan Gilbert that I know and love.
that's the Logan Gilbert that I've been missing.
So, yeah, that's the front line starter.
I deserve $150 plus million, Logan Gilbert.
That's the guy you want to acquire the trade deadline.
All back.
And, you know, with Munoz, like, his basketball is sucked this year.
But if he's also going to throw 101, I mean.
Munoz didn't throw a single.
fastball under 100 miles an hour.
I think the slowest fastball that was registered
was like 100. 99 and a half.
Yeah. So we round up. So yeah.
98.98.7 actually.
Okay. So he had 1.99 or 2 99s. Yeah. So
anyway, you want to slice it. He's thrown hard.
He's feeling good. Yeah. And by the way, pitches like the
passballs low and away. Like pounding that corner lower like he was
not in the middle of the play with that pitch.
He wasn't trying to go elevated like, you know, pitchers with velocity often do.
He was hammering that fastball over and over, same spot.
Boom, boom, boom.
I bet you can't hit this.
I bet you can't hit this.
And then when he needed it, whipped out a filthy slider off, played off very well that fastball
that he was thrown to Pinelonzo.
Slider looked like it was going to be in the same location.
Yeah.
Broke late.
Alonzo looked like an idiot.
And that's what Munoz is supposed to look like.
Gives up the hit, but it's a chintzy infield single.
like whatever like munios was dominant last night and he did it in a different look it wasn't the
slider that saved him although he still was able to break off quite a few you know nasty ones including
the big one to alonzo but yeah and you can see kind of a cyber relief from munoz too uh after that
uh i think he he thought he hung one to besai and he kind of did uh but uh thankfully you know
didn't matter uh and munios gets one of his cleanest saves in a long time
And, yeah, again, just all three pitchers last night, tons of fastballs relative to their season-long averages again.
We'll see if that's a new thing or if it's just because they just faced the Orioles a week ago and they wanted to show them something they hadn't seen yet.
That's definitely a possibility.
So we'll see where it goes.
But, yeah, pitching was exceptional last night.
Four hard hit balls.
I think four hits total, just one walk and one hit by pitch.
I mean, they dominated last night.
Yeah.
Good to see.
So you mentioned that weak single from Madley,
Regiment against Munoz, it was one of what, like three balls.
I got hit to Mariners' third baseman, J.P. Crawford last night.
Yeah, the ball didn't find the new guy that much.
I think his first opportunity, which was that pop up in foul territory,
was like in the sixth inning.
So it took him a while to actually get some action.
But, you know, he looked solid over there.
You know, good decision there on the week hit.
Yeah, good decision there on the on the weak hit from Rutsman to just pocket that ball.
And then, you know, made it made a nice play, charging out on a ball, scooped it, threw it over to first.
A really easy play.
I think that was in the eighth inning or something.
Somewhere around there.
Yeah.
It's tough to say, because it was still light out the entire time.
It felt like it was the third inning.
That's how fast the move.
Like, it was still sunny.
Yeah.
The Mariners won the game with the sun's still up.
Yeah.
Like the sun's still visible.
Yeah.
And I mean, like it's June.
So like the sun stays out until like 9.
9.30.
But like, yeah, they won that game pretty quick.
Yeah, JP always been good at charging the ball from shortstop.
So it makes sense that he would, you know, charge the ball be good on the short hops and all that.
That's never been his problem.
It's been the range to the left and the right.
And he's fine.
So yeah, but he just like he only had one ground ball yesterday.
You know.
So it's well, the one that he ate.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So tough to say if he was good or not, whatever.
We'll certainly find out more over the next couple of days.
But yeah, he didn't look uncomfortable over there.
The throw was kind of a funny throw because it was a short throw.
He didn't really have to put much into it.
For a second, I thought he sailed it.
But no, it was a good throw.
And then you definitely notice his presence in the batters box, too.
JP misses single couple walks
just good quality at bats too
the guy's a really good player
he's a really good player
and he's been overlooked
for far too long
but yeah
I really hope that this is the first game
and what is the extension
of JP's career as a Seattle Mariner
but we'll have to wait and see how the third base
transition looks once he gets tested a little more
over there, but certainly you missed the bat
and he was a big part of the reason
why he won that game last night.
Yeah. And then
the other guy that got reinstated from the injured list
had the game winning hit. Cal Raleigh.
Didn't look particularly great
in his first couple of bats.
Was swinging out a lot.
He was swinging out a lot at his eyes.
He was taking healthy hacks, but
not the swing at.
There was that 3-0 that he had
where he eventually walked, but
that ball was like at his helmet
and he swung.
seven, seven pitches he saw that at bat.
None of them were strikes.
Yeah.
And he walked on a three two count.
Yeah.
Like, holy.
But yeah, with the bases loaded, though,
he's able to park one in the grass.
Great read from Cole Emerson there at second base to just go for it.
And even better slide at home to get his hand in there right under the tag to score.
Give the Mariners an extra run there.
Yeah, Cole Emerson's good, man.
He's a good baseball player.
Also robbed of a double by Pete Alonzo in his first app back.
He had an even better day than the box score indicates.
Like, yeah, he's good.
He's good.
But yeah, nice to have Calback.
Again, the swings looked healthy.
Like, the swing decisions were atrocious.
But the swings were healthy.
I think he might have been a little excited to be back.
Yeah, yeah.
He was taking some big daddy hacks in there.
But, you know, when he absolutely needed it, very compact,
swing from the right side, not trying to do too much. And he found some grass. Didn't hit it
particularly hard, but found it put in the right spot. And that ended up being the game winning
hit. So, you know, Cal looked healthy to me. And that's really the most important thing. Yeah,
I didn't think he was going to hit three home runs last night. He'll save that for tonight.
Although the Mariners are going to be careful with him, like working him back in. So I wouldn't
too shocked if he had a D.H day today or tomorrow, probably tomorrow with the day game
off of the, or yeah, tomorrow day game after a night game, or maybe just a full day off.
Would also make sense maybe the night of Rayleigh can't go again?
Yeah, you DH him and then you have Cal catch the day game.
Now you give him, you know, kind of 36 hours off.
So, yeah, I mean, we know Cal's going to deh some.
And he probably should get more days off worked into a sketch, full days off.
off worked into his schedule as well.
So we'll see.
I anticipate he'll probably get one full game off on this road trip or on this
homestand.
And it'll probably be one of the day games.
And then he'll probably DH the other day game if I had to guess.
But who knows?
We'll see how they want to manage it and how he's feeling.
All right.
That is going to do it for our show.
