It's Fan Fiction Friday, the show where you submit your marriage trade ideas,
and we grade them on the 2080 scale based on things like creativity, uniqueness,
and of course, they make sense for both teams.
And this is actually going to be our last fan fiction Friday of the summer
because next Friday, we're going to be.
going to do reverse fan fiction Friday and show you guys are mariners trade ideas.
So it's your last chance to submit marriage trade ideas for a little while.
We're going to kick things off with a deal from Switch, who has the Mariners acquiring
a manual clause say from the Cleveland Guardians for Johnny Farmello, Gerangelo Sanja,
Harry Ford, and Dominic Canzone.
I think this is a great exercise.
and why I don't want to shop
from the top shelf of the reliever market.
Yeah.
Claise has been very good
this year.
Has he been
2024 regular season
class A? Not quite.
But he's still very good.
And I would say he's in the same tier as Munoz.
So,
yeah, he would be a great ad.
and you have him for this year, next year.
Then you have two club options.
I believe each of them are only about $10 million.
So in theory, you have a near elite,
or elite depending on how you want to break him down,
reliever under club control for four more years.
But if things go south or he gets hurt,
you're really only on the hook for about,
I think it's about $2 million this year.
and next year it's about six, seven.
It's a really good contract.
So, yeah, it's kind of one of those things where it's good to have the outs.
Like with Munoz, like if something goes really wrong here,
or he's going to miss a year and a half because of something,
or he just goes in the tank like relievers do.
We have outs, and it's not going to cost us too much.
So there's a lot of value in that as well.
Also, the guardians, you know, it's not an unreasonable sum for them to eat going forward.
But also the Guardians, frankly, are cheap.
And they're a small market and they act like it.
And they always run really low payrolls.
And spending $10 million on a reliever is not something that small market teams typically do.
And obviously they got claw safe for, you know, nothing for an injured Corey Kluber.
And they've been able to build bullpins on the cheap.
So he might be available this summer.
And this is a good summer to trade him as well.
So the targeting makes sense.
the, you know, in terms of the fit, it makes sense.
The Mariners could really use another guy like Claucet.
But like you said, it's a lot to give up for just a reliever.
Because you're talking about Farmel, who for me is the number three prospect in the system.
You're talking about Sanger and Ford, two top 10 guys.
And you're talking about taking Canzone out of your lineup right now, which, you know,
maybe they acquire a right fielder or first baseman like we talked about in Canzone's extra.
but we don't know that in the context of this deal.
So this is a lot.
You're giving up three top 100 prospects and.
You know who's producing at a high level right now at the major league level?
At a position you don't have a lot of depth at the moment for a reliever.
I don't know that this is too much to pay.
Like I don't know like this might be what Cleveland asked for.
Like so I think you might be right there.
But if I'm the Mariners, it's like, okay, well,
I'm just going to go give up, you know,
Harry Ford for Pete Fairbanks instead and keep the rest of this.
So, like, I'm not saying the valuation is wrong.
I'm just saying from a Mariners perspective,
I probably wouldn't pay this for any reliever.
I'm not arguing that Clause would or wouldn't help.
I'm not arguing against the fact that, you know,
Claude would be a weapon in October.
But I trust the marries to go out and get good enough production out of their bullpen elsewhere without having to pay this much.
So it's just too, too pricey for me, too rich with my blood.
Yeah, it's a little bit too much of a, of a luxury.
So yeah, like last year, Garcia cost you Jonathan Claus saying Garcia got hurt.
So it didn't work out.
But prior to that, he was pitching like a high leverage reliever.
And for two months of that guy, you gave up a dude who had no future in your organization.
I'd much rather they do something like that again this year.
Because like this is the biggest deal you can make.
Like you're you're not giving up more than this for anybody else who's on the market.
No.
And I don't want the biggest impact add to be at the bullpen.
Even one as good as Klossi, even one as much club control is class A.
Club control on relievers is weird because it's really valuable in trade talks,
but it's not all that valuable to you because sometimes you want to get out on these guys
because they're so they're so not fragile volatile when they're going to blow so yeah it's tough
to grade because again you might be in the ballpark in the value but for me if I were the
mariners this is just I'm not this is what it costs I'm not interested I'm going to yeah yeah I'm out
but I also think the valuation is pretty good.
I'll give you a 45, maybe even a 50 on it.
But yeah, I just, I'm so out on this.
I would not do this.
I would be pretty annoyed.
I would give up one, maybe two,
like really good prospects for the right reliever.
I'm not giving up three in my top seven or eight
plus a major league contributor right now for a reliever.
That's just too much for me.
All right.
We are going to get into more of your trades here in just a moment.

It's Fanfiction Friday.
Let's get back into your trades.
Amspragity 69 has a deal with the,
uh, ooh, the Texas Rangers.
Nathan Avaldi to the Marys for Harry Ford, Logan Evans, and Jorge Polanco.
Wow, Avaldi's not a name that we've heard.
So that's cool.
The only reason I picked it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think immediately this deal's dead because of all these do $29 million next year.
Yeah.
And then like another 22 year after, I think.
Yeah.
So no.
That's probably why we haven't seen.
Nathan Avali before on the show.
It's like DOA right there.
Yeah.
But in general,
a pitcher like Avaldi would make a lot of sense for this roster.
And I would certainly give up Harry Ford
plus to get that type of pitcher,
even if I was planning on flipping that pitcher this winter or
you know, probably not this winter,
but the winter after if baseball exists,
the winter after.
because I'm probably trading Castillo this winter,
so I need a Castillo replacement.
But I think the whole point of trading Castillo is to open up money
and not give it to a pitcher.
Like you would be...
Yeah.
Like Avaldi this year, fine, whatever.
The money's not too bad.
He's due about $8 million,
give or take.
And if you're adding polo in the deal,
polos do about, I don't know, $2 million.
So it's about a $5, $6 million difference there for Avaldi
the rest of this year.
Fine.
But he's making 29 next year, which is 7, 8 million more than Castillo's going to make.
And so you kind of see how it doesn't work.
Yeah, yeah.
Evaldi would be awesome.
Yeah.
If he was more in the $15 million a year range and he had him for a year in two months,
then yes, I would be very interested in a deal like this.
and it is interesting because we don't get too many trades from, you know, inside the division.
Yeah.
Particularly Texas because there's still kind of a fringe playoff contender.
Yeah.
So, yeah, there's a lot of interesting things about it.
Unfortunately, devil's in the details.
And the $29 million next year basically kills any shot that this deal would be realized.
But I am curious, is there any Texas Rangers that we should be looking at?
at?
Sam Haggarty.
That we mentioned him and the
Ham Swaggerty trade offer.
That's right.
Yeah. Of all the
if there was like an option
involved here, then maybe, but
yeah, because he's guaranteed 29
and then 22 after that.
It ain't happening.
He still own $55 million.
Yeah. I appreciate the unique name.
So you get bonus points for that, but this
still probably like a 35.
Yeah, the money just kills it.
Unfortunately.
So like the realism score is zero.
And that that crushes it, unfortunately.
But yeah, it was, you know, it was nice to think, well, not a baldy, but like, could you get, I don't know, Adela's Garcia who we've talked about.
Could you get Josh Young?
you know, there are some pieces.
There's bullpen arms in that,
in that pen.
So maybe Texas is kind of one of those sneaky teams
that you should also be rooting for to lose.
The bearers tried to trade with them,
this winner, Nathanielo.
So I know that they've talked a little bit.
Yep.
So I think it's,
Texas is a sneaky team to watch.
We don't quite know if they would trade in division,
you know, and I think they'd have to be a little bit further back.
before they would do that trading in division that is.
Yeah, Texas might be a team to watch
over the next couple weeks.
You know what's weird? Adola
Garcia only has a 62 WRC plus
against lefties this year.
It's typically crushed lefties.
I don't know what's going on there.
Weird.
He's playing his way to Seattle.
If he was sitting lefties
more, I would be more on board
with that. But also, I really like Adolus Garcia
regardless of what he's doing.
So, you know.
Vives.
Randy Adolos, Julio.
Yeah.
And maybe in September, Robles.
All right.
Stephen has our next deal here.
It's a three-team deal.
Diamondbacks get Luke Rayleigh,
Taj Bradley, and Jared Sundstrom.
Ray's get Harry Ford and Tai Pete.
Mayors get Eugenio Swara's,
Josh Naylor, and Zach Gallen.
So, Colby, this is an idea that you and I have talked about
three-team deal where Tosh Bradley
goes to Arizona and Harry Ford
goes to Tampa and you
get Suarez and maybe Josh
Naylor on top of that. We also
have gallon thrown in here. So
Steven's kind of taken
our idea and try to
complete it.
Do you think this works?
Three team deals are very hard.
Yeah, I think
the issue you're going to run into here is Tampa
Bay is probably not going to trade
Bradley for just
these two guys.
Bradley is a probably number four, I would say, who has number three upside.
And he's controllable for the next four seasons.
So he's going to be pricey even though he's not a top of the rotation arm.
That's just how it works.
So it's one of those things where, you know, Tampa's weird.
Sometimes they take a little bit of bulk.
Sometimes they hypervalued their guys that they want from your system.
So, yeah, just one of those things where feels a little bit like you're doing more for the Mariners than you are for these other teams.
Yeah. So, yeah, like Arizona, they should give up their three rentals for Rayleigh and Bradley.
Those are two guys that are going to, like, be here for three, four years, right?
whereas
obviously Gino
and like these guys
are all leaving in for agency
more than likely
maybe they can keep one of them
but they're all leaving
but Tampa Bay like
Tampa Bay is kind of the glue
that holds this deal together
they're going to want more than this
and if you're Seattle
you're giving up Luke Rayleigh
Jared Sunstrom
Harry Ford and Tai Pete
for three rentals
it's not terrible
but you know
it's
it feels a little light on your end and it feels a little light on Arizona's end.
So I think like I like the idea.
I see where you're going with it.
It just feels like it's just a little bit of overkill for the Mariners to get
Naylor and Gowan in addition to DeS Juarez.
It feels like you need to pick one if this is the valuation you're going with.
But if you want both,
Luke Rayleigh could make sense for Arizona,
but Arizona's got a lot of outfielders.
So it's a weird deal.
And I can't.
sit here and say like, oh, they definitely wouldn't do this.
This team definitely wouldn't do that. I don't know.
Yeah.
I can't dismiss it entirely, but it just doesn't feel right.
You know, it feels like it's a little something.
Yeah, it feels very wanting to have your cake and eat it too.
Right.
Well, because, I mean, take Tampa out of the equation, right?
They take their guy, Bradley, out of this deal.
You're not getting these three guys for Luke Radley, Jared Sundstrom, Harry Ford, and Taipe.
Like, did you?
you're just not going to get all three of these rentals for that package.
Because as we talked about,
Diamondbacks don't even need Harry Ford.
They're fine at catcher.
They have two young catchers that they like.
And, you know,
Gabriel Moreno is already one of the better young catchers in baseball.
So Ford doesn't carry much value for them.
Rayleigh, maybe.
Yeah.
If you're Arizona,
you're probably better off trading these guys in individual trades.
And it's probably going to end up being a better return package than if you gave them all up in the same deal.
And Arizona,
it's definitely looking for young starting pitching.
The Mariners do not have it to give.
So they need Tampa to be in this deal.
And because you need Tampa to be in this deal,
you need to make it basically impossible for them to say no.
Yeah.
So.
Yeah.
We know they like Ford.
We know that they like Pete.
They have.
We assume they still do, but they have.
Yeah.
But is that enough for them to give up Bradley,
who's starting?
to kind of come into his own
I don't know
I don't think so
especially with all the club control
that he still has
when is he arbitration eligible
is that this one?
I think he might be super two
so is that also
because that also you know matters here
for Tampa Bay specifically
yeah he's going to start paying
until not this upcoming winter
but the next winner so
yeah right by the only reason
we're mentioning Bradley or that he's being
mentioned it all is that Tampa Bay is reportedly is listening to offers on them so yeah um but yeah
by the way Tampa and Tampa and Seattle don't really need you in this deal uh because I'm sure
Tampa was like or I'm sure if uh Arizona was like hey we'll give you Moreno for Bradley straight up
Tampa says yes yeah and then well at that point maybe Arizona needs to catch her so maybe
then Harry Ford has some value for yeah there's a lot of moving pieces to this it's like a lot
of ideas that makes sense
and then you put them all together and you're kind of like
so
I'll give it a 45
like I feel like it's close
but it's just really hard when you try to
force Gino and Naler and
Gallen to one team in the same trade
three team deals are so
incredibly hard so yeah I'll give you a
45 still because it's just it's
such a tough window
to fit through but
yeah I just
there is something that feels off about it and I think it's just the Tampa Bay aspect of it.
Max says a deal with the Orioles, Michael Oroo, Luke Rayleigh, and Michael Morales for Felix Bottisa.
And you guys want to shop on the top shelf for these relievers today.
Well, there's either the top shelf of the reliever market we talk about or it was 45 different variations of Gino Suarez trades.
All of them very, very similar.
Yeah, true.
I'm kind of surprised we haven't gotten more Ronald Acuna Jr. trades than we have.
I'm probably people are recognizing that it's like, that's not going to happen.
So why even bother?
It's more me recognizing that.
I think we see two or three a week.
As well as, you know, every once in a while we see a Jose Ramirez trade.
And, yeah, there were a few trades this week that were just like, I'm not even wasting my time on that.
that guy is not available.
You know what?
Interestingly, though, I didn't see it all.
I didn't see a single Stephen Kwan trade,
which is kind of interesting considering that
finds him.
Yeah.
He might be available.
Yeah.
So.
Weird.
Whatever.
Yeah.
All right.
So Royal Rayleigh and Morales for Bautista.
What do you think?
Again, it's kind of the whole,
I really don't want to shop at the top of the market for,
for a reliever thing.
This to me is more palatable
than the Class A1, obviously.
Like you're just, you're not giving up
nearly as much as you were in Switches
Class I deal.
Would the
Orioles do this?
I have questions about that.
I don't know why they need Michael
Arroyo. They have more
infield prospects than they know what to do with.
Yeah, I guess it's just like
get the asset, worry about it later.
Yeah. My hunch is that if the Mariners went to Baltimore,
and they were like, what do you want Felix Batista?
They're going to say Colt Emerson.
And you're going to say no.
Yes.
And then they might say, okay, well, if not Emerson, then I guess we'd be willing to settle for a prospect package led by Johnny Farmello.
Yeah.
Or Laz.
Or Laz.
Yeah.
And to me, I think because Bautista's injured,
injury history because he doesn't have the track record of success is even class A.
For me, I think I'm out because again, I would rather go get whoever this year's
Jimmy Garcia is and pay the freight on that guy for two months, then pay for club control
of a reliever who's only a little bit better.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So again, from a valuation standpoint.
this might be a little light, but whatever, it's like in the range, I think.
But from a should the Mariners do it perspective, for me, the answer is no.
So that's going to lower the overall grade.
And, you know, I'm saying the Mariners shouldn't do it because I think it's going to cost this.
If it costs this the package you're proposing, there are worse traits the Mariners could make.
It wouldn't be awful.
I'd want to know how you're replacing Rayleigh.
before I made a deal like this.
But I really like Michael Royo.
I think he's going to hit and he's going to move quick.
And I,
he's smoking all right now in double A.
Like every level that he goes to,
he is just immediately producing.
Yeah,
like Laz is stealing the headlines because he's been really good at double A so far,
which is surprising for me,
at least.
I thought he'd struggle.
And maybe he still will,
but cool.
Like,
Laz has been great in AA.
Awesome.
Yeah.
Arroyo's been.
Arroyo is hitting 309.
426, 527 right now.
It's 15 games, but still, like, that's really impressive.
It's a right-handed hitter.
For a 20-year-old.
For a 20-year-old playing in that ballpark at the AA level, like, yeah.
First time at the AA level, he's not repeating.
He's walking more than he's striking out.
That's a right-handed hitter at that ballpark.
Yeah.
The home ballpark for the travelers is not good offensively.
It is death to right-handed hitters.
Yeah.
And he's still.
finding a way to get it done.
Like I, man.
He continues to answer questions, man.
He, like, the only question I have left is, is can he say on the dirt?
And it feels like that answer is no.
So I think he's probably going to move to left field, maybe first base.
But the more I watch him, the more like he just continues to produce, I just like,
this guy feels like Michael Young, man.
He feels like Michael Young, uh, offensively, obviously.
Big part of Michael Young's values that he could play shortstop and third and second.
But yeah, yeah, yeah.
do just hits.
And so I would be pretty bummed if they traded Arroyo for anybody,
understanding that if the right deal comes along,
they still should.
Yeah,
but I feel like Michael Arroyo is getting slept on.
Let's make something clear here real quick.
And we've gotten so far off the beaten path,
but let's make something clear.
Like trading these prospects,
there is going to be a part of us that's like,
man,
that stinks.
That hurts.
But still,
you should have done that.
Yeah,
like I got a question about this.
yesterday I did the 300 level on our Patreon, which is just a bonus solo show that I do, usually in the offseason, but because there are not many games this week. I did it this week.
And the question was, like, who is the prospect that, like, would hurt you with the Mariners trade?
And I was like, all of them a little bit. Like, like Harry Ford, because of the connection I have with Harry and that was my guy. And then, you know, we kind of know his dad a little bit. Like that would sting. And I love Michael Oroyo. I feel like he's being slept on in this.
in this, you know, arm system.
And that would sting.
And even Las Montes is going to sting a little bit because, like, that guy could be
Kyle Schwerver.
He's not going to be Yordon Alvarez.
Shut up.
That's not happening.
Or will it?
No, he might be Kyle Schwerver.
He might be Carlos Bigero.
But that would even sting.
Like, it's not supposed to be easy to trade these guys, but you're still supposed
to do it.
So it's just one of those things.
Just accept that, you know, your favorite prospect is probably getting traded at some
point.
the odds that your favorite prospect premieres for or debuts for your favorite team pretty slim pretty slim so accept it understand it's part of it doesn't mean it doesn't sting a little bit when it happens yeah yeah it hurts it's it's it's gonna hurt it's gonna hurt if the mirrors actually get like a geno swara's josh naler trade done i'm gonna be like hell yeah but also i'm gonna be like oh that's a bummer that that also hurts look at the reaction to the randy rosoran
to trade last year. I was a huge Aden Smith guy.
You were a huge Brody Hopkins guy.
It stung. Not for one second.
Did we say that's a bad deal? The Mariners should have made it.
Of course they needed to make that deal.
And it'll be the same thing this year if they trade a royal.
It'll be the same thing this year if they trade LAS.
That stings.
But yeah, I mean, it's what it's there for.
So anyways, that's a nice little tangent that I'm sure we'll talk about with a guess.
Did we give this deal?
I don't think so.
Okay.
I don't think Baltimore does this, so I'm going to give it a 40.
Yeah, and I think what Baltimore would be willing to do
is something that Seattle wouldn't be able to do.
So I don't think this necessarily is a good target.
But hey, you know what?
We hadn't talked about them all that much.
I think I brought them up like two months ago briefly.
So yeah, it's off the beaten path, so I like that.
So I'll go 40, 45.
All right.
Last trade of the day comes from John Stanton hates the Mariners.
Mariners get Anthony Bender and Otto Lopez to play third base.
Marlins get Philin Selston and Tai Pete.
Thoughts.
Kind of the problem I have with this trade is that Otto Lopez
has been Williamson.
As a third baseman, he's been Williamson.
Like he's not going to have for a ton of power.
you're not getting traditional third base power there he's a bit better offensively though and he's
hitting the ball yeah yeah he's a better player sure yeah yeah but he's not your prototypical third
baseman he's a second baseman sure and a pretty good one you can do a lot of fun things to help you
win ball games and bender's kind of a middle relief type like he's kind of a throw in in this deal
we like anthony bender around here yeah but he is j t shark wah he's not you know sure uh felix ball
but yeah I like Otto Lopez good player um you can do a lot of different things to help you
but I do feel like you're paying more for club control here than you are actual impact and like
I said Bender there he's a dime a dozen he's fine I wouldn't mind them adding Bender uh but he's a
diamond dozen if you can't get Bender there are literally three dozen guys out there that you can
get this summer who will do what Anthony Bender's going to do for you so do I want to pay
Felman and Ty Pete two very high upside guys for club control for a not ideal fit.
Not the worst thing in the world.
I'm down on Felman just to be totally clear.
Sure.
Yeah.
I think he might right now I tentatively have him at 10.
I think he might finish.
I think he might from the prospect ranks are also done.
He might be.
Spoiler alert.
He's out of my top 10.
Yeah.
But yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's still a good prospect, but there's no question.
The shine has come off on him quite a bit this year.
Yeah.
And it does speak to how good the Marrish farm system is because the tools are still insane.
But I, this is the guy to me that, you know, we had all these lofty Francisco Lindor, you know, comps and all that.
And maybe he's still good start.
But maybe.
Yeah, he's only 19.
But like it's just he's been hurt a lot.
He isn't hitting for much power right now.
He's hitting the ball in the ground a lot.
He looks like, you know, he's going to stick it short.
But like I just worry that he might be Eric Ibar instead of, you know, Francis Gildendor
and I like Eric Rai Bar.
Yeah, but if you have to wait five years to find out of he's Eric Ibar and that's assuming
he even plays right away in the big league level.
Yeah.
You should be fine trading them for anybody who helps you this year.
And Lopez has multiple years of club control.
So Pete's kind of similar, honestly, to where Felman is, where it's just like the tools,
awesome.
Production.
not there.
So it's an interesting trade.
Again, I do feel like you're paying a little too much for club control over impact,
but you're getting a lot of club control.
And Otto Lopez is a good player.
He's a good player.
He would help you.
Just not in the way I think you need the most help.
So it's kind of a weird position to be in.
But it's interesting.
I'd give you a 50.
I think the Marlins might, I think the Marlins might do this.
Maybe. It checks off the uniqueness box for sure. So I'll give you a 50. It's definitely, you know, he's not a name that we've heard really at all on the show. So, yeah, I don't know if the Marlins would do it or not. I mean, they should do it in my mind because I don't think that they're going to get to a place where Otto Lopez is going to be a major part of whatever the next winning version of the Marlins is.
even if they do he'll start to be more expensive and they'll be looking to trade them anyways
like they're at least two three years away yeah so um but but yeah i do like kind of like
like i don't know if they would do it or not but uh but yeah i'll go 50 on it i think that's
a fine place to be because i'm just like yeah solid solid player solid trade yeah i wouldn't
have too much issue with it if they actually did it solid but not like prospects i'm also not
like doing backflips or anything so yeah no i i would really like auto lopez to be my dillan more
replacement and not my third baseman but yeah yeah you know well maybe that's how you look at it
long long term like for now he's the third baseman next year he's the dillan more replacement
