First trade of the day comes from Adam to deal with the Marlins,
Hazu Sanchez, and Lefty Reliever, Andrew Nardi for Harry Ford, Michael Morales, and Luis We spell.
Yeah, we've talked a lot about the Marlins having a lot of relievers that the Mariners could like.
But this just doesn't feel like it's going to be enough.
for a guy like Nardi alone, let alone adding Jesus Sanchez.
Nardi is an interesting guy because he misses a ton of bats as a lefty,
and he has, I believe, four years of club control left.
He's definitely pre-arb.
Yeah, it's either four or five years of club control left.
Now, he did finish last year on the IL with an elbow soreness type of thing,
So that's a concern.
But again, he's very cheap.
He's pretty good.
At least the peripherals say he's pretty good.
So it seems like the Marlins really don't have any need to trade him right now
unless they're getting an insane offer.
And this is not it.
Harry Ford is not enough.
I don't think for Nardi straight up.
And then you add in the Hesu Sanchez thing,
who's, you know, kind of Luke Ray,
ish and I just don't think that you're getting,
you know, I don't think you're giving up enough here to kind of force the hand of the,
of the Marlins because sweet spells nothing in this deal.
Morales, you know, Ford and Morales are pretty nice prospects.
Maybe those two combined get you Sanchez.
Maybe Nardi, maybe, but you're not getting both.
I just think that the Marlins are probably going to look at Nardy and be like, you know,
we really have no reason to trade them right.
now we're not paying him anything if we get into july when you know everybody needs bullpen
help he's healthy he produces we might be able to get two harry fords uh for him with his
club control maybe even three uh so yeah i think the marlins are probably just going to say no and
sit and wait on this uh this is the best they could get for nardi and then again with sanchise
also in the deal uh i think you're you're talking about significantly more than this yeah so
Sanchez is definitely a platoon bat, but he's a strong side platoon bat.
So he's still going to play 70-ish percent of the time.
And he was really good against Ritey's last year, 118 WRC Plus.
I mean, if Luke Rayleigh is essentially going to go from being like your fourth outfielder
to be in almost your everyday first baseman,
then Sanchez would be a really good replacement for the role that Rayleigh served in in 2024.
But you get Sanchez for three years, and again, he's going to play a lot because he's a strong side platoon bat, and he's really good at doing that.
And then you get Nardi for four years, and Nardi is a lefty who, like you said, misses bats consistently get strikeouts.
His FIPP says that his high ERA is kind of a bit of a lie.
Yes, he's coming off of that injury, but still the Marlins are going to value him very highly, and they don't need a risk.
rush into trading him. He's one of those guys that like, well, their bullpen arms don't matter to
them because they're going to be bad anyway. They should trade quite a few of those guys over the
next, you know, a few months. Nardi's not someone that they should rush into trading so they can get
him back healthy, let him pitch some more, and then alleviate maybe some of the hesitancy that
some teams would have when calling about him. So, yeah, I just, I don't think this gets it done because
these are two pretty valuable players with lots of club control.
And while I like Harry Ford, his stock has obviously taken a significant dip.
Louis Swee spell is just a throw-in.
Michael Morales is a fine pitching prospect, but he's not moving the needle that much in this deal.
So I'm going to go 30 on this one.
Yeah, I think it's, yeah, 30-35.
It's just, I don't think it's in the ballpark.
If it was, great, I would do it.
But I just don't think it's there.
Next trade comes from Stan.
Dom Canzon, Emerson Hancock, Harry Ford, and Tyler Locklear to the Pirates for David Bednar and Nick Gonzalez.
Nick Gonzalez, someone that we had in our offseason playing Colby.
What do you think about this deal?
Yeah, I haven't talked about David Bednar much this year.
He was a hot commodity on the deadline or on the trade deadline talks, not this last season, but the season before.
the offseason before he was coming off of a really good year.
And the pirates did not take advantage of their opportunity to trade him at the height of
his value.
And he really struggled this last year, including losing his closer job for a while.
So Bednar is interesting.
The mayor is certainly looking for a high leverage arm.
Is David Bednar at that?
Tough to say, you know, what the year he's coming off of certainly has been.
in the past.
But he is making a little bit of money this year, too.
So that obviously factors in as well.
You know, could Harry Ford and Tyler Locklear get you Bednar?
Maybe, maybe.
I'd say probably not.
But I think it's that type of deal.
You know, it's a top 100-ish prospect back in probably.
And then a solid, you know,
kind of a B tier prospect.
I think that gets you in the conversation for Bednar now.
Again, with the Mariners do that, with the money he's due,
with the season he's coming off of.
Tough to say,
but I don't think you're getting Nick Gonzalez for Dominic Canzone
and Emerson Hancock.
Hancock is valueless,
particularly to the pirates they have starting pitching,
good young starting pitching.
So he brings no value to this trade.
And more on the way.
Right.
So he brings no value to this trade in Canzone.
You know, he's just a 4A outfielder.
I mean, there's really not a ton of value there.
He's a tweener right now.
Right.
So, I mean, really, the deal is Ford and Locklear for Bednar and Gonzalez.
And it feels light.
I think it does seem like the Pirates baby do you think Gonzalez could be their second baseman this year.
And if that's the case, then you're certainly not going to get him for Tyler Locklear,
who I think is not as valuable as,
we thought he was, you know, a couple months ago, five, six months ago even.
So, well, it's not terrible, but it does feel pretty light.
And then honestly, I don't know if the mayors do this from their side of things either,
because I don't know how they feel about Bednar and his money.
So it's kind of a difficult trade.
It's essentially $6 million for Bednar.
That's what the pirates and Bednar settled on the size.
offseason 5.9 million.
So that's obviously more
than we think the Mariners have right now
to spend
Mariners front office. I should make that
clear, but you get
it. So yeah, I mean, like in a vacuum,
if this deal was just forward and locklear for
Bednar, I think that's fine
given the year that Bettner's coming off of, but
there's still the upside that he might
turn around and maybe
he's that like all-star type of closer
again.
um but yeah the the like for all the reasons that you said the nick gonzalez aspect of this is
throwing me off so i'm gonna go 40 i think if you submitted this trade and it was just bednar for
for ford and locklear i probably would have given you like a 50 55 somewhere in there yeah i just
think you know if you're the mariners like when i just go sign buck farmer to like four million
bucks and keep
Harry Ford, you know,
because we don't know if Bednar is going to be
good. Now,
Benar is definitely a guy to watch for in July.
The trade deadline rolls around.
That salary is cut in half.
He's pitching okay.
Might be a lot more expensive in July, but
he might be, but it might also
be more worth it. It might be worth it in July
more so than it is right now.
You'll probably be a lot less hesitant
and unsure about him.
Right. You have a pretty good idea of him. And also, you'll have another couple months of, you know, data on your own prospects and all that. And so, yeah, you never know, maybe in, maybe in, you know, six months, well, not six months. Maybe in, in four months, five months, uh, locklear is a legitimate trade piece. And all of a sudden, you can get a guy like Bednar for Locklear as a headliner. Like, who knows. So, uh, yeah, I think, you know, as it sits right now and where we're sitting right now, it's like a 40. Um, but Bednar is definitely an.
to put on the list to you know keep in the back of your head as as we move forward this season

Fan Fiction Friday. We're going on over your Mariners trades. We've got this one from Doug to Luis
Robert deal. This return a lot bigger than some of the other Robert deals we've seen
over the last few fan fiction Fridays. This one has Las Monto.
Ty Pete, Michael Morales, Teddy McGrath and Mitch Hanager going to the White Sox.
So Mariners trying to offset some of the money of Robert by trading Hanager here.
So the White Sox aren't technically assuming $17.5 million.
They're just assuming, what, five more million dollars than they're already paying Robert in this deal and only for one year.
and that would
doing the math here
basically fit Robert
into the remaining budget
we think the Mariners have.
It might be like a little bit over by about a million bucks.
But yeah.
I thought Robert was making 15 this year.
Is he making 15?
I thought it was 15 this year.
And then the two options are for 20 million apiece.
But either way.
Like money roughly neutral.
Um, so, oh, yeah, he is making 15.
All right.
So my mistake.
I was going off of his number last year, which was 12.
And a half million.
Yeah.
So either,
either way,
Hanager and,
and Robert cancel each other out money wise.
Um,
the two and a half million dollar difference.
Right.
Well,
I mean,
we still.
If we're going off of the 17 and a half million dollars.
Yeah.
It also,
it could be 15.
Yeah.
Like,
who knows.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Never got clarification on that.
I mainly picked this because, like, let's say hypothetically, this is the price,
they quote you, to take on Hannager because they apparently were willing to eat some money
in their talks with the Reds.
We have no idea how much.
So are they willing to essentially eat all of that money?
And if they are, obviously the price goes up.
We heard that the price, or at least one of the deals that was discussed was an Edwin-Aroyo-centered
package.
Montes, you know, kind of a polarizing prospect.
Some people really like him.
Some people are not so sure about him.
So I don't know if he's in the Arroyo range, ahead of the Arroyo range.
It kind of depends on who you ask.
And in this case, I guess it really depends on what the White Sox think more than anything.
But if it is Laz, Pete, Morales, and McGraw, and that's the cost to get Robert, you know, essentially for free,
salary-wise this year.
Are you willing to do that?
I mean, it might be free in general
because it's club options the next two years.
Yeah.
Now, if you're trading like Las Monta,
Sinti B, you probably want to take those
club options.
Or at least one of them.
Right. You're probably assuming you're taking one of those.
Which could cause a headache for next year,
but also if you're taking one of them
or both of them,
uh,
probably means he was,
pretty good at least, which means you probably are able to trade him next winter if you want to.
So this is kind of interesting too.
So the club option includes a $2 million buyout.
So if Hanager is making $17.5 million, yeah, the money essentially cancels itself out completely.
Right.
So for me, I would do this for Robert.
Now, I'm in the camp.
a little worried about Laz in his future
because I don't know if he's going to hit enough
to be a DH only,
which is where I think he's headed.
Plenty of raw power,
but if you strike out 35% of the time,
it's really tough to get to that.
Now, Laz is also only 20 years old,
and obviously we know how good he can be.
So, again, Laz is just a polarizing prospect.
Some people think he's untouchable.
I think those people are delusional.
But yeah, I would do this with the white socks.
I don't know.
How much of that money do they want to eat?
And if they're eating all of it, is Laz even enough as the headliner?
I kind of doubt it.
Yeah, I think you're kind of banking on the bulk here to make up for that.
Right.
And one of the few reports we got on Robert earlier is that the white socks would rather get one, like, big piece than,
bulk
for Robert
Because like
If you were
theoretically just taking on
all of Robert's money
Montes and Pete
should get that done
Yeah I would think so
So you're essentially hoping
that them taking on Hanager is worth
Morales and McGraw
Yeah
Or maybe
You know if you were taking on all of his money
You could make like Montes and
Morales work and so you're throwing in Pete and Merger.
You get what I'm saying here, right?
Yeah.
So I don't know.
It's just like, what's worth them taking on Hanager?
Because they don't have to be committed to Robert beyond this year.
No.
All they're on the hook for is $17 million guaranteed.
The 15 this year and the $2 million buyout at the end of this year.
Right.
the danger for them is that if they don't trade him before the season starts and he gets hurt again or he struggles.
They just completely whiff on getting anything for him.
They get maybe Michael Morales for him and that's it when they could trade him right now and get like a couple really good prospects, solid prospects.
Well, and if he has another year like that and he's not tradable at the deadline because maybe he's hurt or what have you?
if they'd pick up that club option now they have a $20 million player that teams are probably not going to want to trade for because he's making $20 million and coming off of another year like that.
Right.
So it's pretty risky to hold on to him.
But the White Sox have done a pretty good job.
You've got to say with rebuilding the farm system pretty quickly, they got a good deal on the crochet front.
Good fair deal, I would say.
I don't think they hustle the Red Sox, but they got a good deal out of that.
And so I think, I don't, I just total guess, don't know.
My assumption would be that the White Sox would want a little bit better of a headliner if they were going to basically give Robert, you Robert's contract and really help you out with a 26 man crunch.
So I think you're looking at in this deal, I think probably a.
Royal at a minimum needs to be in this.
It might be Felman.
They might ask Felman if you're going to ask for, you know, $15 million.
So, yeah, it's a really tough deal to kind of judge.
I like the idea.
I think it's roughly in the ballpark.
I think it's fair starting points.
I'll give it a 50.
Yeah, I'm between a 50 and a 55.
Like, I could see this happening.
Yeah.
could absolutely wrap my head around like this is the deal sure yeah that makes sense seems like an
appropriate risk to take if you're the mariners like yeah yeah yeah and for the white sox like
i think like maybe you know in this case maybe they're more so buying type heat than buying
michael morales and teddy mcgraw and that's a bit easier to wrap my head around because
if really all they're looking for is one legitimately good prospect i think las fits that that mold
yeah I mean again he's such a polarizing prospect it's hard to tell
you know like but yeah this could be a Ford or Royo
thing instead they want a little bit more likelihood
out of the top of the package fine but yeah
I would I'd say keep an eye on Robert he might be one of those really
early like rare May trades where if he gets off to a pretty good start
the White Sox might just try and capitalize right away
yeah so uh robert you might not even have to wait until the deadline uh to to take a good shot at him
and oh yeah as we said you should be trying to take a shot on him right now yeah and the white socks
are going to be bad so yeah uh arthur has a one for one here with the aes this is kind of
interesting Zach geloff for uh cole young i mean basically it's you're asking the is hey
you want to reset the clock at second base yeah uh because i think
Gelloff and Young are roughly the same level of prospect.
Yeah.
When Gelloff was a prospect, roughly Cole Young, but he's struggled, you know, in his stints in the big leagues.
Now, it's only, you know, 847 plate appearances, but 231, 294, 412, 100 WRC Plus was a two and a half-win player.
in just 69 games in 2023.
But as a full-time player in 2024, 1.4F4-82, 82WRC plus 211, 27, 362,
34% strikeout rate.
Yeah, I think now, did it 17 homers, did steal 25 bags.
He also posted a 6.9% walk rate.
Yes.
And he's a good defender.
you get him for five years.
He might end up being Super 2, but I doubt it.
So you get him for five years.
I think if you're the Mariners,
you're probably looking at that and being like,
is Cole Young going to be worse than what Gelloff was last year?
Probably not.
I think it's fair to say, like,
you're probably about as good, you know, we feel.
You get him for an extra year.
And if you're the athletics, it's like, well,
we're not really competing for an ending this year.
We know we're taking strides,
but we're not really actually competing for the division this year.
It's only one extra year club control.
And, you know, Gelloff is the guy who could go 2020 at second base
with above average defense.
Like, I don't really see the point in either side taking this risk.
Like the Mariners, obviously, they would get a second baseman for opening day.
But they might very well look at Cole Young and be like,
we have that.
Like, there is.
and it's going to look a little different, but
do they think Cole Young could be a three-win second baseman?
You know, on, you know, on pace to be a three-win second baseman?
Yeah, they might.
So I don't know if either side does this trade.
That's a good point.
But it's certainly interesting.
It's like the old Sam Tui of Allah for Seth Ellage
trade that we talk about.
I'm going to give this a 60.
I'd say 55.
It's really solid and thought.
provoking and unique.
Yeah, so maybe 60.
Yeah.
Kind of checks all the boxes.
Good stuff. Good stuff.
All right.
We got a couple more trades to go over in just a moment.
But first, a reminder, this episode of the Lock Dom era's podcast is once again brought to you by game time.
So I used to live in New Mexico.
And down in New Mexico, there are zero pro sports teams.
And a lot of bands and artists I listen to skip going there more often than not.
So when I moved to Toronto, where there's a baseball team, a basketball team, a hockey team.
even a soccer team and there's great music being played every night in the city i was right in my
element when i want to catch a ball game or my wife and i want to see a band i always get my tickets through
game time and that was the case well before game time time time time time time
and before i even join the network because it is truly the best ticketing service out there hands down
i truly truly believe that and now it's getting even better thanks to game time picks

You're listening to the Locktime Marrars podcast.
Got a couple more trades to go over here on Fan Fiction Friday.
John Stanton hates the Mariners as a deal with the bets.
Oh, God.
Brett Beatty and Wasker Brazaband.
I never learned how to pronounce that guy's name.
Yeah, you don't need to.
For Emerson Hancock, Tom Canzon, and Edward Bizarro.
Zero.
20. Not even a 20. Zero.
Ty hates Brett Beatty confirmed.
I just don't get it. I don't get it.
Yeah, do I need to go on the ran again?
That I just, I don't get it.
I don't get why you all are so obsessed with Brett Bady.
now it turns out he does have an option left oh he does he does he has one option left
fanograph says updated uh you know what brett bady come on down yeah 70 that changes everything
for me no who doesn't want a third baseman name whose last name is spelled batty um yeah
yeah um no you can have bizardo when you pry him from my cold dead hands oh yeah that's right you love
edward bizardo mm-hmm dude's really good even if you mistakenly put 277 batter's face instead
of 53 it's still a really impressive little did you do that yeah so i tweeted this a few days
ago and I said over his last 277 batters faced.
Opponents hit this and then so they're all like percentages, right?
They're not like, uh, that's a lot of batters to face.
Yeah.
And that's what I was, that's what I was sitting.
I was thinking like like starters don't that's like, yeah, it's like two innings.
He's facing six guys.
So I went back as a how did I get 277 or whatever?
And what I did is because I used the game log on baseball reference, I highlighted.
and it always tells you what he did
and then it tells you the 162 game pace.
I was off one column when I put that.
And then all the other numbers are still accurate
because they're all percentages.
So that's what I did there.
I clarified, but nobody seemed to catch the clarification,
but whatever.
Bizarro was really good in September last year as the point.
It was.
You know, 30% whiff rate on the slider.
Really good sinker.
60% ground ball.
Like, he was really, really good last year.
Bady is fine.
If you can get it for Hancock, yeah, I laugh at the Mets, but sure.
Canzone, fine, whatever.
Although, honestly, Canzone is basically Brett Beatty in the outfield.
So, yeah, to me, no.
I think Pizarro is the best player in this deal.
and I don't want to take another hit in the bullpen
but
like in theory like if I take off my
Bizarardo fanboy
cap for a second like
it's fine
I don't really see a reason for the Mets to do it either though so like 40
I'm good
25
Bizarro is the best player in this deal
yeah I need the bullpen help
I don't believe
and Brett Bady at all.
There is.
You can go kick rocks if you believe in Brett Bady.
Oh, boy.
Zach Fisher has our last deal of the day.
Harry Ford,
Logan Evans, and Brock Redden to the raise
for Trey Morgan and Curtis Mead.
Playing the hits today.
Curtis Meade as well.
All right.
Well, you're the resident Curtis Mead guy.
What do you think about this deal?
It's.
The signature,
I don't.
For those of you watching,
throwback episode,
Colby on the old setup and all that.
Yeah,
snowed like half a foot.
And that's probably hyperbole,
but it's been snowing for 12 hours straight.
And I don't drive on snowy roads because news flash,
your F-150 doesn't mean you can go 70 in a school zone in the snow.
Okay.
Yeah.
Anyways, if you're wondering why I didn't just brave the conditions and go down to the studio, it's probably because of you.
You're a bad driver.
Oh, no, I've uncaged the beast.
Anyways, I don't think you're getting Trey Morgan.
I think he is a player who the rays have, you know, really, they really like and they value him.
You know, he had as many walks as strikeouts last year.
also 324 408 483 158 WRC plus in across two levels actually three my bad so yeah Morgan is kind of a quick rising prospect right now might be able to play the outfield probably first base but he is interesting mead is is kind of continually pushed out in Tampa at some point he's going to get DFA or he's going to get traded for very very little
because he's just going to run out of opportunity.
He's a third baseman, second baseman, first baseman,
who probably should be playing first.
And when you look at the raise and what they're doing on the infield right now,
they have Caminero.
You look at all the young middle infield prospects they have besides Camerro.
You look at Carson Williams.
You look at still Brandon Lowe right now, still Caball right now.
So it does feel like, you know, meat is good.
It pushed out at some point, and that's going to come pretty soon.
Ford is the guy of the race have liked in the past.
Do they like him now?
I don't know.
Would they do mead for Ford?
Probably.
Yeah.
Rodin does seem kind of Tampa Bay razy.
Now, I'll give you that.
But I don't think he carries a lot of weight in this trade.
Evans is the big X factory or how much do they like Logan Evans?
Because my guess is that.
He feels razy too.
Yeah.
To me.
Yeah, but my guess is Zach looked at this and was like Ford for Mead and then it's like Morgan for Evans and then Roden is like to put it over the top
I don't know if the rays like I kind of few I kind of viewed it in the opposite way actually oh really
Ford for Morgan Ford for Morgan Evans for mead Roden to kind of like for both it over the top yeah yeah this is interesting
because I think you could simultaneously say you're giving up too much
and you're not giving up enough.
Because again, Meet is a question,
as much as I like Curtis Meek.
You know, he's still a bit of a question mark.
He probably should be only really playing first base.
But he's 24.
He used to be a top product.
He's got some success in the big leagues, very little.
And then obviously, Morgan is how much do the raise really like him?
It's tough to say.
I'm not in tune with what the race feel about their prospect.
although I can tell you.
Well, and that's kind of the question about Harry Ford and the
mirror is like Harry Ford.
I haven't traded them yet, but is that because
the league doesn't like him?
I don't know.
So obviously this is true of any trade,
but Judy is in the eye of the beholder
here. I like Curtis Mead and because you put
Curtis Mead in this trade, it's at least a 50.
So it's the opposite of Brett Bady.
Sure, pretty much. Yeah.
Yeah, I'll go 50.
I think it's pretty solid.
Yeah, it's just, you know, how much do the race really like Tray Morgan?
And I've seen some people think or predict that like Morgan is going to take this massive step in like the national prospect eye and that the raise love him.
Now, that's one person.
I don't know that person.
Like personally, I don't know how clued in they are.
but it is interesting and that is such a big X factor.
It's hard to really tell you how feasible this trade is.
But I like it.
It's like a prospect for prospect swap.
It's an unproven major leaguer coming over to maybe give you a solution at second or third.
It's pretty good.
Yeah.
Yeah, I like it.
You know what?
Screw it.
55.
Boosting my grade.
Oh, there you're generous over here.
Yeah.
Won't even listen to the Brett Beatty trade, but sure.
I have my reasons.
I have my reasons.
