But today on Locked-on Mariners, it's fan fiction Friday.
Everyone's favorite.
Yay!
You submitted your Mariners trade proposals.
We're going to discuss them and grade them on the 20-80 scale, 80 being the best, 20 being, well, you get it.
If you like what you hear, give the show a follow or subscribe wherever you listen to this.
We greatly appreciate it.
We greatly appreciate your support.
So let's go over to Twitter here because we didn't get any trade ideas via email at Lockdown, Mariner's at gmail.com.
you can email us your ideas
who you want to. And we're going to start with
Tanner who has a pair of trade
ideas. The first being
Brian Reynolds, the Pirates Outfielder
and right-handed pitcher David Bednar
for Emerson Hancock, Zach
the Lotech, Connor Phillips, Wonten
and Kaden Polkovich.
Colby, what do you think?
I don't think the pirates are interested.
It's not a bad package by any stretch.
I just, I think
the Pirates cannot accept
to deal for Brian Reynolds where Emerson Hancock is the lead piece.
So it's, you know, again, I think the secondary pieces are okay.
But I think you probably have to replace Hancock with Kirby or, or, I mean, they're going to ask for Julio, but probably Kirby or Ford.
And then maybe you have a shot.
but I just I don't see the the pirates lowering their price on Reynolds all that much they don't really need to trade them this winter
but it's it's a pretty good pretty good and aggressive package that they would be getting there
grade 55 okay yeah I agree with you that there needs to be a better leading piece here but other than that I think the structure of it is more than fine
and I also like the addition of Bednar here um so I'm going to
give it a 52 good stuff for the most part just uh just need something better than
hancock and uh probably like you said coley kirby for one of those guys might make more
sense no alvey um though in the end the pirates probably want julio and uh only julio yeah so
we'll see we'll see though uh tanner's other idea is
is Kyle Lewis, Justice Sheffield, and Adam Maco to the Reds for Luis Castillo and Mike Mustakis.
So putting a lot of chips in on taking on the contract in Mustacas.
I don't think it's enough.
I think there's a lot of question marks with Kyle Lewis.
We've talked in the past about how inconsequential Justice Sheffield really is in these deals.
Adam McO is a nice prospect.
I feel like the Reds would like him.
But I feel like they're once again here, just like the other deal that we just talked about,
there needs to be a better leading piece here.
Yeah, like the Reds are desperate, but Justice Sheffield isn't nothing in this deal.
And so it's basically Lewis and Maco for Castillo and salary relief.
I don't think that's enough.
I think Castillo is going to cost you, even if it is with Mustakis.
I think your lead piece has to be better than Maco or Lewis.
I think you're still looking at Williamson.
I think you're probably looking at Williamson and Phillips or something like that.
just it's a little too much stock put into the
the value of taking on Mike Mustakis's contract
so it's just it's off it needs to be reworked
I'd probably give it a 40
yeah I honestly
probably a 35
I just said that's just not in the ballpark
for Luis Castillo unfortunately
and
um Mustakis while I do think that's going to be valuable
to the Reds to get his money off of the books
I don't think it's going to be enough for them to say, yeah, let's take a chance on Kyle Lewis, and that's really our big piece that we're getting.
And that's not to discredit Adam McO by any means.
I just, you know, he's more of a second to third guy in a Luis Castillo deal, which technically you have them in, at least if we're just going by the order that you tweeted them in.
But yeah, Justice Sheffield is definitely not a second guy.
in that deal for sure so yeah i'd say probably 35 to 40 honestly um so let's move on here to uh
and by the way thank you tanner for submitting your trade proposals we'd greatly appreciate it um
crazy shark big trade here with the a's uh third baseman matt chapman and left-handed pitcher
shamanio to the mariners for brandon williamson adam macko kaden polkovich and alberto rodriguez that is
too much from the Mariners for me to be comfortable in acquiring two years of Matt Chapman,
who has a lot of concerns, as we've talked about a lot on this show, and one year of Sean Mania,
who's fun coming off of a really great year for him. But yeah, no, that's just, that's way too
rich for my blood. Yeah, it's, you know, haven't been shy about sharing my concerns about Matt Chapman.
Mania, again, only one year.
I don't think Sean Mania is significantly better than somebody like, say,
Sunny Gray, who I think you can get for cheaper than the package you put out there.
I think you can get Mania for cheaper.
But again, Chapman does have some value.
So I like that you're trying to package the two together.
But to me, this is just no.
Williamson is too good of a lead piece.
you take out Williamson, I'd probably do this deal, but I don't think Oakland would.
You know what I mean?
So, yeah.
To me, Williamson and Rodriguez are two top ten guys in the Marys Farm.
I would have Macro.
It's quite that high.
I would have Rodriguez personally.
And this is a little bit of a tease for our prospect re-ranks.
But I have Rodriguez at nine right now in my personal ranks.
And then, you know, you got Mac.
who's probably, you know, starting to knock on the door a little bit there of the top 10.
And Polkovich is kind of interesting as well.
I just, that's a lot for two years of Chapman, who is very talented, but declining.
And one year of Mania, who is a number three at his best.
If Manaya had two years, I'd consider it a little bit more.
But it's too big of a risk for me.
But I'll give it a 45.
It's certainly interesting.
Yeah, I'll give it a 45 as well.
I think it's certainly something that Oakland would take.
So, yeah, for that.
Yeah.
I mean, they would be kind of stupid not to take that, honestly.
But sometimes they want more bulk than that.
True, true.
I mean, that's quite a bit of bulk, but yeah.
All right.
So thank you for the trade idea, crazy shark.
greatly appreciate it let's move on to uh kelnick is here at pasquology on twitter who uh has a sunny gray and
mike moustache steel uh for brandon williamson and jake fraley pretty accurate honestly but i feel
like adding moustacus onto gray considering what we heard i don't know if you heard yesterday's show
but it seems like they might be able to get gray alone for levi stout plus something
So I don't think that they need to give up Brandon Williamson
But we'll see
I think this is pretty on the button though for the most part
This could potentially be on the button here
So on it
You know what?
Might give this 60
To me
If you want Williamson for gray
I'm not taking Mustakis
Right
And obviously we've heard
that the Reds love Brandon Williamson,
and we've also heard that the Mariners have already made a formal offer for Sunny Gray,
and it sounded like it was pretty good, like it was being strongly considered by the Reds.
So if this was, you know, Tyler Mallory or Luis Castillo and Mike Mustakis,
yes, I would do that, and that would be a great try.
trade.
The sands right now, it's a bit of an
overpay when you factor in Moustakis.
I don't care about Jake Frey.
So I would probably
give this, but it's pretty good.
I could see a trade like this
happening. I wouldn't be upset, but I'd
be like, eh,
probably would have
added it up a little too much.
I probably would have just added another piece
to stout, like stout or
Phillips in Freely, and maybe even
stout Phillips and Fraley for
Sunny Gray.
instead of just giving Williamson.
But yeah, I think it's pretty good.
I'd probably give it a 60.
I think that's one of our better ones.
Yeah, honestly, if Mustakis wasn't in this deal,
I'd probably consider giving it a 65 to a 70.
Or if it was Mali or Castillo.
Yeah, but very good, very good.
Good job.
Thank you for the question, or not the question,
but the trade idea, rather.

family, all those out there who are Mariners fans.
Let's continue our fan fiction Friday here
with a trade idea, very small, simple one
from Tyler Cartwright at Ty Cart 50 on Twitter,
who asks if the,
he formed this in the in the form of a question
Steck and Ryder for Mustakis
No
I mean there's many
questions that I could ask here but the main one being
what is Steck and Ryder's value to the Reds really
and why would you trade one of your better relievers
for a guy that's making a ton of money
and is coming off of a bad year
who might not be better than Abraham Toro.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Not a huge fan of this one.
Yeah.
Mustakis, to me, doesn't have much standalone trade value if I'm the Mariners.
Not that I think Mustakis is a bad player.
I think he had a bad year.
But is he, because basically what this really is, as of right now,
is it would you rather have moustakis or steckenrider and torro in your lineup every day
i'd much rather have second rider and torroth because if i trade second rider now i have to go get
another reliever so not only am i taking on like 15 million dollars of salary this year in this deal
now i have to go spend another four or five six million to go get a reliever who's as good as
second rider it's just a it's a hard pass for me mustacus again not much standalone trade value
um you know they were going to make second or they were going to make musta
It's like a four or five million dollar your player.
And that was going to cost me second rider fine.
But you didn't include any cash in this deal.
So it's a pass for me.
Yeah.
There's just so many downsides for both teams, really.
I just, yeah, I don't see how this deal really appeals to either side, quite frankly.
So I, yeah, I think I'm going to give.
this like a 30 to a 35?
I'll go 35 because it is a
different approach to third base than we've seen.
Sure.
But yeah, if there was cash involved or something like that,
I could maybe give it a 40, but as it stands right now,
it's probably 35.
Tyler, for submitting your trade idea.
Let's move on to Eli Sellers at Eli Sellers 24.
trade with the Minnesota Twins
where the Mariners give up Zach Deloge
Levi-Styletyl and won 10 for
Max Kepler.
What do you think about this deal, Colby?
Yeah, it seems a bit much
for Kepler. I know Kepler's
Kepler has some really good tools still
and he's still relatively young, he's cheap.
He definitely has some left-handed power, which the
mariners need. But
I wouldn't be too shocked if DeLovie.
Loach is Max Kepler as soon as next year.
I just, how, how certain are, how many times are we going to bank on the Max Kepler
breakout and then get disappointed that it doesn't happen before we realize that this is just
who he is.
He's a average, everyday major league baseball player.
And that has value.
But is that worth three of your top 20-ish prospects or two of your top 20 and one of your
top 30?
Probably not.
I like Kepler
it's a different idea than what we've heard
I just I don't know man I feel like honestly
there's not much of a difference if I just go sign Cory Dickerson
like I know Kepler has tremendous upside he's only 28 he's cheap
but again how many times are we going to fall for that this is Max Kepler's breakout year
that cheap
relative to
you know, relative to what the market would probably pay him.
He is.
Sure.
But, yeah, he's like a 100 WRC plus guy with pretty good defense.
You're just banking on upside.
And then that's fine because there's definitely floor there.
But I'll just go get Cory Dickerson and basically get the same offensive output.
Yeah, I just, it really depends on how much you think Kepler is going to repeat
2019, which he hasn't been able to do in the last year.
He hasn't come close.
Yeah.
Yeah, this year he slashed 213, 306, 413.
Yeah.
Kind of an average-ish defender.
I mean, he's a good defender.
I shouldn't say averages.
He's good.
He's legitimately good in right field.
But he's not a center fielder.
Again, this is a guy who's stat cast page
should always have, we'll always have fans being like,
ooh, get to break.
out be happening because the stat cast shows a lot of red.
Below league average strikeout rates, above league average walk rates.
But again, at the end of the day, at some point, 93, 94, 98, 122, 107, 95.
Those are his WRC pluses.
Find the outlier.
It's not hard.
He's 28.
He's been in the league for six years now.
Like, I mean, at some point, we just have to accept.
Career-wise, he gets on base below average, you know, like,
it's slightly but yeah
101 w rc plus guy
for his career
yeah he feels
he just feels like an average hitter
and I don't know if
I really want to give up
two of my better prospects for that
like 110 like whatever
like he's completely falling off of cliff
I don't like
I see in the
in the comments here that
you know
who is it again
Zachary referred to
Wanton as like the Mariners number 14 prospect
He's not
Wanton is not anymore
I mean Zach Deloche isn't the sixth
He's a long aspect
Yeah
I'm guessing those are MLB network
Those are MLB network ranks
Would be my guess
But yeah to me this is a no
I'd be interested to see what the Mariners
Could get out of Kepler
Because again like I said
The stat cast pages
and the like all the peripherals say this guy should be a lot better but again we're six years in
and it shows that he's an average hitter yeah so um i'm okay with acquiring max coupler don't get
me wrong i just don't think for this package uh i would be okay with it if the like four days
after the lockout ended if you saw this deal come across the ESP and ticker i would be like
yeah don't love but i get it but i
I'd give it a 50.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'd give it a 48.
So.
Kind of a cop out, but okay.
No,
it's,
it's,
it's definitely a trade
that's good enough to make us think
and stop and think it'd be like,
huh.
So I'll give you extra points for that.
I'll say 55.
Wow.
Wow.
He has anybody mentioned
Max Kepler to us in the year?
You popped off.
even more. All right, all right, all right, all right. You make a good point. I'll give it a, I'll give it a 50.
There you go. I won't, I won't go below average. I'll, I'll put it at average.
Okay. Because you're right. We haven't heard Max Kepler before on here. That's true.
All right. Appreciate the proposal, Eli. Let's move on to I don't know what to say at Dower Optimus on Twitter.
That is a great handle, by the way.
Yeah. And clearly you did know what to say because you have a trade proposal here.
uh mariners get cedric mullins and john means while the orials get noel v marty brandon williamson justice sheffield and jake frailey
um yeah not enough um maybe for like like obviously that would be enough for means but uh not for mons as well
mullins is going to carry quite a bit of trade value as he should because the uh he was fantastic
and the orioles are not in a rush to trade him so uh yeah means meanwhile
it makes more sense for the Orioles to trade them than Mullins at least.
You could probably get means for Brandon Williamson, but we've also said...
I don't think you're getting those two without giving up Julio.
Yeah, you shouldn't do that.
Yeah, it kind of feels like it.
And it's just a...
Do you really want to bank on Cedric Mullins as 2021?
No, I don't.
I think he's going to be a good player.
I don't think he's going to be an MVP caliber centerfielder.
If he does it again next year, I mean, different conversation.
Like if we're having this conversation in 2023, totally different, or at the end of 2022, I should say, totally different.
But right now, I don't want to bank on Mullen's repeating that because that's how the Orioles are going to value him.
They're going to look at 2021 and say, this is who he is, period.
And if you're not willing to give us this, we're just going to hold on to him for a year.
So, yeah.
Not enough. Unfortunately, I just, you know, if it was just Cedric Mullins and not John Means, I mean, I would take out Sheffield and add somebody like Phillips or Maco or somebody like that.
Then maybe we have a shot here, but Means, while I don't love John Means, he's certainly going to carry more value than Sheffield and Freightly.
Right. For sure. For sure.
So,
I look at it.
What do we feel in grade-wise?
45.
Yeah.
Let's say 42.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I just,
just think about,
like,
wouldn't you rather trade for Brian Reynolds
than Cedric Mullins
if you're going to give up this much?
Oh, yeah.
Because I would,
because Reynolds has done it twice now.
So,
but yeah,
it's interesting.
We haven't seen the Mollins means package
before so I'll give it a 45.
Cool, cool, cool.
All right, so we are going to be doing a lightning round
because we still have a bunch of trade proposals to go over
in just a moment.

All right, Colby, lightning around.
you ready?
Let's do it.
All right, let's do it.
So, this comes from
Fala la la la la locked out by the parasite
class L.O.L.
It's kind of a mouthful, but okay.
Sure.
No, I'll be Marte for Matt Olson
and Sean Mania.
I don't think it's going to be enough to get Olson.
Even if it was hard pass.
Matt Olson
35
Like Matt Olson isn't a fit for the Mariners
Just stop
No
35
I'll go with 35 as well
All right
Mariners received Joe Mantiply
For the left-handed
reliever from the Diamondbacks
For Christian Cardozo
And Cole Barr
This one comes from Aiden at SFNE 58
Yeah, Aiden Lexington
to send these like small deals
which I appreciate.
Yeah. Yeah. That's that's I I appreciate this
brand of fan fiction Friday.
I do too because they're a little more like
realistic.
Just because you know they're smaller stakes I should say.
That's better. Um, but no.
I don't care about bar and I'm dot that high on
Cardozo right now, but Mantiply is just a lefty
reliever like there's nothing particularly special about him maybe i'm missing something and you can
let us know if i'm missing something but when i looked him up i was like this there's nothing in this
profile that seems that special to me i'll just go sign uh you know or a lefty reliever if i really
want one so um i'll give it a 50 though um because it's like i said it's it's unique and
i don't think that the trade package is necessarily crazy i uh i i i i don't think that the trade package is
necessarily crazy. I don't care about Cole Barr really at all. But Cardozo for Mantiply seems
somewhat realistic to me. So I'll give it a 50. Yeah, I'll give it a 50 new name. Manciply is someone
that I looked at during our offseason planning. Yeah, I'll give it a yeah, like I said,
I'll give it a 50. I don't, I'm not super thrilled by the idea of trading Cardozo for, for, for
Man to play. I actually think Cardozo's pretty fun. But yeah, if they made that trade,
well, whatever. But yeah, I'm not super excited about it. Not really down on it either. So I think
50's a good spot to be in right there in the middle. Alex Ledbetter 15. Sack Eflin for Levi Stout,
Caden Polkovich. Ethlyn is going to miss probably the first month of the season, if not more.
If it was just Polkovich, I would do it. But I'm not giving up Stout for
hopefully four healthy months of Zach Eflin.
And I like Zach,
Zach Afflin, but that's too rich for me.
Yeah,
uh,
I'll get a 50.
45.
Well,
finally,
I outgraded you.
See,
I am the positive one out of this duo.
Just read the next trade.
At we can't score.
Seattle gets,
gets Jeff McNeil for
Zach DeLote, Levi Stout
$12 million,
and they chip in $12 million
for Kenneau's contract
with the Mats here.
Sure.
I would do it.
Like I don't feel the $12 million
is necessarily something I would do,
but Stout for Deloche and,
or sorry, McNeil for Stout and Deloche,
that's kind of a no-brainer for me.
So I'll give it a 55.
All right.
Uh, 50.
how about that
all right
jack at jackson
underscore p n w
drew second writer for kevin keirmeyer
um
i'll go like
60 because i could see this happening
um
i think you might be able to get him for less
though i feel like you could get him for like
kate and pulkovic straight up
um
yeah i think second writer
for kevin keremeyer
pretty on the mark
yeah especially if you're taking on all of
of karemyers contract not that
it's an exorbitant amount of money, but it's like $10 million more than what
Steckin Rider is getting.
So yeah, I'll probably give it a 55 just because I think you can get Keirmeyer for less
and for somebody who doesn't hurt your 2022 chances, if that makes sense.
Sure, sure, sure.
All right, Mariners, Sorts at Mariners underscore Sorts.
Evan White, Emerson, Hancock, and Brandon Williamson.
to the A's for Matt Chapman and Shaw Mania.
Still a no for me.
Yeah, it's a lot.
It's a lot for Chapman and Manaya.
For the same reasons that we talked about with the other Chapman and Mania.
Trade idea.
Yeah, and like, why give up on Evan White?
Why?
Don't do it.
Don't, don't.
I still believe in Evan White.
I'm going to go 38.
I'm so sorry.
But yeah.
Yeah,
honestly,
this is like Williamson for Chapman.
And that's like a,
I don't know,
like a 40 for me.
And Hancock from an eye
is like a 43 for me.
So like I'll give it like a 42.
All right.
So Daisy and the dingo at Daisy's dingoes.
Who has a couple of trade ideas.
Three team deal.
They actually have a couple of three team deals.
The Mariners received John Means.
The Phillies received Diego Castillo, Coles Sulcer, and Taylor Trammell,
while the Orioles get Alec, Blom, Zach Deloge, and Brandon Williamson.
That is way too much from the Mariners to just get John Means out of that.
They give up Castillo, Tramel, Deloche, and Williamson for John Means?
Yeah, pass.
No.
Pass, big, big pass.
Dead on arrival.
Big pass.
Big pass.
That is no Bueno.
Yeah, so the Orioles, they give up
Means and Sulcer, right?
And they get Baum, Deloche, and Williamson?
No.
Yeah.
Sorry.
It sounds like the Orioles.
And the Phillies just have to give up
Bomb to get Castillo, Solcer, and Tremel.
Yeah.
Nope.
Not happening.
No.
Sorry, Daisy.
I'm going 25.
Wow.
Dacey, you get the three-team trade bonus because those are extremely hard to come up with.
So I'll give you like a 40.
Wow.
Yeah, I just, I mean, I think you're kind of being jerk right now.
Of course.
Of course.
But no, I mean, like, here comes call me to swoop in and be the hero of the day.
I mean, I just, what can I say?
I'm better at not making people mad, I guess.
no it's just there's no way the mariners are doing that deal there's just no chance at it and honestly i don't
really think that the that the uh phillies would be all that interested either um or sorry the the orio
no no i'm sorry yeah the mariners are the team that's out there because philly i mean i don't know
i don't really think they want to trade palm though for castillo basically is what it is because they're
sounds like they're trying to win this year too.
Yeah.
Solcer was pretty good.
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah, just a no.
Yeah.
All right.
The other trade, and this is our final trade of the day from Daisy at Daisy Stingos.
Another three-team deal, like I said.
And it's another Matt Chapman and Sean Minia package for the Mariners.
The other two teams, of course, being the A's and the Cardinals,
where the A's received Zach Deloche and the Lodian.
Lars Neupar.
Why aren't the Mariners getting Lars Newt bar here?
Points deducted just for Lars Newpar,
not going to the Mariners in the steel.
At Mundo Sosa and Abraham Toro while the Cardinals receive Chris Flexen and Lou Trevino.
So the Mariners are giving up,
Zach Deloge, Abraham Toro, and Chris Flexen for Matt Chapman and Shamaniah.
No.
I'm really sorry, Daisy.
I really am sorry that I'm not receiving these that well this week.
week, but it's just a lot.
That's a lot.
Yeah.
Flexen, like you're giving up, what,
doesn't Flexen still have like five years?
It's a little murky because of how his language in his contract might be structured.
But yeah, Chris Flexen, I think, has, this year he has an option.
And then I think after that he has two years of arbitration.
So I think it's four years.
of Chris Flexen.
Yeah. So you still have all that time on Flexen, which, hey, now that MLB has a book on him, all that stuff, we'll see how he responds at 2022.
But for one year, for one year of Shamania, and then let's break it down to say Deloche and Toro for Chapman.
For all the reasons that we just talked about Chapman throughout the show today, that's, that's a lot.
That's a lot.
I feel like that would get it done.
but, you know, just for Chapman straight up, but man, that is a lot.
And when you add flexen on top of that, that's too much.
For the record, Chris Flexen had a higher B-war than Sean Minaya this year.
It was close. It was 3.5 to 3.4.
But that's pretty easy to look at that and say, that's not an upgrade to the rotation.
And I still have to go sign another guy.
Right.
because I'm only have four right now,
so if I'm trading flexing for another starter,
a different starter,
I still only have four.
So I still need another starter.
I get a third baseman who's,
I don't consider an impact bat,
and I have to lose four years of Toro,
four years of flexin,
and six years of Deloche.
No, it's just,
I'll give it like a 45.
I'm going to give it a 40.
I'm really sorry, Daisy.
But yeah,
these three teams,
rates are so hard to put together though so i don't envy you no keep swinging yeah so that is going to do
