We already know Bryce Miller is unlikely to be ready for opening day, but now J.P. Crawford has this shoulder thing that continues to bother him.
So what does that all mean for the Mariners 26-man roster?
We'll discuss as we make our final projection before the season begins.
Colby, hit it.

round four matchups.
But before we do all that, I want to shout out our title sponsor today.

And if you want to see Colby and I play together or against one another,
let us know in the comments below.
Maybe we can make that happen on Twitch, barring, you know, Colby's internet.
potentially working out also not to mention i don't have a headset so yeah we can figure that up
i highly there's this wonderful thing on your phone it's called discord that you can use and then i can
stream your voice on discord to the people seems like i don't want to you in a corner there i don't want
to give it away for free kind of already these velvety tones
you know, come with a paycheck.
Of course.
You know.
Of course.
Of course.
Guess you're just not a man of the people.
Couldn't be me.
Yeah.
Okay.
Let's start on the pitching side of things here.
Obviously, I got Logan Gilbert, Brian Wu,
George Kirby, Luis Castillo.
Seems very likely at this point that Bryce Miller's not going to be ready in time
for either that final game against the Guardians
or the first game of the Yankees.
series though he did throw a full bullpen today so it does seem like he's on the upward swing
I just I'm not sure if he's going to be able to ramp up and time so this might only be for a
turn or two through the rotation that either Cooper Chriswell or emerson Hancock has to pitch and the
mayors don't necessarily have to put Bryce Miller on the IL to start the season like if they feel
that he only needs like one rehab start for example they could just send him down to
triple I like he's got three minor league options left so they could just do
that if they want to and they don't feel like he needs all 15 days on the IL.
But maybe they do that. Who knows?
But at the very least, it doesn't feel like we're going to see too much of Cooper
Chriswell or Emerson Hancock in the rotation to start at least for the reason of replacing
Bryce Miller.
Of course, obviously some other injuries can happen.
Knock on wood.
I just have Chriswell slash Hancock as the, you know, as what's listed here in the rotation.
I don't know which one it's going to be.
I'd prefer it to be Chriswell instead of Hancock because I like Hancock.
because I like Hancock more out of the bullpen than out of the rotation.
But it's also possible, especially if they're only going to make one or two starts,
it's possible that they just piggyback one another.
And that's kind of the plan there for the first couple turns through the rotation.
So we'll see.
So I just have those guys as kind of one spot.
And then same thing for them in the bullpen.
After those two guys in the bullpen, I have Casey Lagamina making it because he's out of options.
I just kind of feel like no one's really impressed for that final spot.
I mean, Cole Wilcox has definitely grabbed my attention.
But I think just to start things out, they'll go with a guy that they're familiar with,
that we know that they like, who's out of minor league options.
They don't have to, you know, make a decision on him just yet.
And then he probably has a fairly short leash.
After that, I got Carlos Vargas and then the five main guys for rare,
bizardo, brash, Spire, Munoz.
So thoughts, opinions, what do you think?
So very similar, obviously.
Gilbert Wu, Kirby Castillo, I have Chris Lowe for now, but whatever, the Mariners get to decide.
Both him and Hancock are on the opening day roster, so whatever they decide to do.
In the bullpen, I have Munoz, Ferrer, Spire, Brash, Bizarrozo.
Hancock.
I have
Carlos Vargas, and I actually
have Zuluetta making the
opening day off. Legamina.
That's really the only difference we have.
You know,
Legamina's been better, but I just don't
think he's all that good. Zulet is actually
performed. He's got some really interesting
pitch shapes, and there's more
upside on the swing and miss and the slider.
So now, again,
to keep in mind, Zuletta's got an option less,
whereas Legamina doesn't, and the Mariners typically don't like to play the option game right out of camp.
But, yeah, I just think, you know, they kind of, if they really like Alex Hoppe, as much as they say they do,
and he's been better in his last couple of outings.
They really like what they've seen from Cole Wilcox.
Obviously, they like what they've seen from Zulueta.
It just feels like, you know, hey, look, Legamina, we think we can probably get him through waivers right now
because a bunch of teams have guys they're trying to get through waivers.
And even if we lose him, we like our pile arms enough.
And we don't think we're losing a high leverage guy, right?
Or even a potential high leverage guy.
So I think they might try and sneak leg amina through.
I just think Zuluweta's at the best spring.
I think he's the most interesting of the pile arms.
He's got some major league experience to him as well.
And when you're kind of looking for a guy to help, you know, Chris Well,
slash Vargas slash Hancock, kind of cover those middle innings.
I think Zuluella offers the best blend of, you know,
floor and also some upside to maybe pitch his way into some more leverage spots like
Bizarro did in 2025.
So I really like what he's done.
But, you know, the Mariners do typically try and go.
They try to hold on to these guys, these bulls guys.
Same reason Vargas made the club last year.
And that one actually worked out okay.
So he's like, but we like Zuluetta.
And then still, I would just keep an eye out for a late spring training.
trade for sure yeah uh just because again zululeta has an option and if you have an opportunity to
add a bullpen arm who you think is you know going to help you at the major league level more than
legumina and it's not going to cost anything because that guy's probably out of options and he's
probably going to get df a either way then you might be able to buy somebody for a hundred grand or
you could buy tony zick for a dollar you know although that wasn't that was kind of an yeah that was
season. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I forgot to mention Zuluetta.
But yeah, him and Wilcox, they've definitely been the two standouts of the pile so far.
We'll see if either one actually have impressed enough to kind of overcome the whole option element of like Amina situation.
I think it'll be like Amina, but we'll see. I mean, I just want them to roll with the eight best guys out of camp.
and if they feel that Zuluweta is
yeah if they think that Zuluetta is one of the eight best guys
or they think Wilcox is one of the eight best guys and cool
like I'm not shedding any tears over them moving on from Legamino
if that's what they do
yeah one name I'd keep an eye on
in the in the sense of
you know it might be a late spring trade
Cole Sussler
out of the raised bullpen he's out of options
doesn't have a big, you know, track record in terms of sample size over the last couple years,
but when he has pitched, he's been very, very good.
And he has an elite change up.
He throws from a little bit higher arm angle than they like.
The fastball generates a lot of, you know, really good value at the top of the strike zone at 94 miles an hour because the change up is so good.
So I just keep an eye on Sussler.
I think he'd be a really good fit in the middle.
Again, he's out of options.
So he would have to make the raise opening day roster or,
he'd be DFA and I'm pretty sure a guy like that would get claimed.
So he's also got, you know, I think four years of club control left,
but he is also 34, 35 years old.
So you don't really care that much about that.
But just keep an eye on.
And plus, his name is Cole Young Sussler, who doesn't want to be a young.
His middle name is young.
Nice.
Nice.
There you got.
All right.
Well, we'll look at the position player set of things in just a moment.
Talk about how J.P. Crawford's shoulder thing might impact things on, on that front.
In just a moment.

I like how that read assumes that my bracket is going to blow up.
I think my bracket personally is going to be perfect because I know everything about
college basketball.
I just watched so much college basketball this year, Colby.
I believe that, sure.
Yeah.
Though we got some more context with regards to Bryce Miller's bullpen from Shannon Dreher.
She said all went well.
He threw about 30 pitches at about 80% and said he felt good after.
So good news there on Bryce.
And also some seemingly good news here on Josh Naylor,
who of course was scratched from today's lineup earlier today.
she said that Nailer played catch and was in the batting cages at the time of her tweet.
And she speculates that he just likely wanted another day before returning to games after playing in the WBC.
So don't think that that's ultimately anything serious there as far as Nailer getting scratched today goes.
However, we did get some mildly, at the very least, concerning news about J.P. Crawford this
morning, Colby. Obviously, he hasn't played a lot this spring due to his shoulder thing that
he's got going on. He made it back to the lineup for a few days and then he's missed the last
couple of games with shoulder fatigue and now the banners are sending him to Texas to meet
up with Dr. Keith Meister to get another opinion on the shoulder. Now, Justin Hollander spoke
with the media today and he said that, you know, his concern level is overall pretty low.
like he's not worried about this leading to some kind of surgery or anything like that.
They just want to figure out if there's something they can do here before the season begins.
So he doesn't have to manage it over the course of the entire season.
So it's possible that JP could land on the IL.
It's also possible, hey, because he hasn't played a lot this spring that maybe, you know,
he lands on the IL for that reason.
You know, they just put him on the aisle with, you know, a shoulder thing and then let him rehab a little bit
and get into some games in Tacoma or maybe extended spring training.
what have you.
But that kind of throws in a little bit of a wrench into what is otherwise a really
straightforward conversation about the Mariners position player group here.
I mean,
at Catcher,
obviously it's Cal,
maybe there's a conversation to have about Andrew Kisner and Mitch Garver.
We got asked about that yesterday on Mailbag Monday.
I don't think the mayors are going to spend the extra $2.25 million.
So to keep Garber on the major league roster over Kisner.
Like maybe if Garver stays in the organization,
you know past spring training and eventually they go yeah can just isn't it like maybe they they
do it at that point with garber but i just don't see that happening right now like neither guy has
run away with that job um and i don't think the familiarity that garver has with their pitching staff
is enough for them to spend the extra 2.25 million to move on from kisner and also you know
essentially like that one million dollars that they paid kisner on on on
fire as well.
And then obviously the infield,
Josh Naylor, Cole Young,
Brennan Donovan, for now, J.P. Crawford
and Leo Rivas.
And then the outfield, Julio Rodriguez,
Randy, Rosa, Rana, Dom Canzone, Robbrenner,
Robbius. Robbott, Snyder,
Luke Rayleigh, and Victorubles.
So if Crawford
misses some time, it doesn't seem like this
is going to be any sort of like long-term
thing, even if he has to go on the IL to start
the year. It's kind of like the
Bryce Miller situation where it feels
like maybe it would just be the duration
of the IL stent and then he's back
after that, who knows? But it doesn't
seem like they would be without JP for too long
so I don't think this opens the door for Colton Emerson.
I think maybe
they would entertain that if
JP was down for
for much longer than
expected, but if it's
only going to be for like a couple weeks or whatever,
I don't think they're going to
bring up Emerson for that sake.
And especially Emerson, like,
he's been fine. He's held his own, but it's
a 75 WRC plus so far
in spring. He hasn't knocked the door down.
I think he needed to use some time down in Tacoma.
I mean, he's only played like what, six games or so down in Tacoma.
And so, yeah, I think he could use some more time down there.
So that really leaves the mirrors with, you know, a multitude of options here.
They could go with a guy that can play some shortstop.
All of these guys are going to be off of their 40-man roster, though.
So they'll have to make room, which isn't that big of a deal.
They got some lovers, some easy lovers to pull there in that regard.
But they'll have to add someone from,
off their 40-man roster if they do that.
You know,
if J.P. has to go on the aisle.
So Patrick Wisdom,
Will Wilson,
Brock Rodden,
Connor Joe.
You got a preference there?
Do you have an inkling as to,
like,
who they might go with in that regard?
Yeah.
Feels like it would probably be Will Wilson.
I don't think they're too concerned about
losing him on waivers,
if slash win they have to DFAM when J.P. comes back, although, again, it wouldn't necessarily have to.
They have other levers to pull on their 40 man.
Brock Rodden certainly impressed this spring, but he only played 40 games last year at AA.
So, like, you know, he kind of like the Ryan Bliss camp where it's like, we really should just have him play, you know, and actually play games before trying to force him on a major league roster.
Ryan Bliss, by the way, not an option because he hasn't played in like a week and a half.
So not great there.
Miles Master Boni would be the easy answer here,
but he is dealing with, I believe it was a calf issue.
Could have been a, it's a leg injury of some kind,
which he had to leave, you know, team Italy early to come back for.
We haven't heard the severity of that.
So maybe he's an option for opening day,
and he would be the obvious answer since he is, you know, on the 40.
And the Mariners like him and they trust him and all that.
So, yeah, I don't think it's going to be,
I don't think it's going to be Rodden, as interesting as that would be.
I don't think, I mean, I don't know that it can be Master Bonie because we don't know if he's healthy.
But if we assume that he is healthy enough to play on opening day, he's probably the guy.
But short of that, Will Wilson's had a decent spring.
You can play short, he can play some third.
But also keep in mind that you don't need, you don't need a guy who can play shortstop because Cole Young can play shortstop.
So Leo Rivas could be the primary for a week or two.
And then Cole Young could be the emergency shortstop.
And then you just move, you know, you just move Donovan to second.
And then you need a guy who can play third.
Well, you know, I mean, Patrick Wisdom can play some third.
You could call up another outfielder if you feel comfortable with the infield,
just not replacing that infield spot.
So you could call up somebody like Rylan Thomas, who said that a really nice spring.
I'm not sure how he would play, though.
Bernard Davis again
tweaked his hammy or
whatever I didn't see if he was in the lineup today
or not so I don't know
that's an option but also you know
Connor Joe's had a fantastic spring
and you know he's a major
leager can play some first base can play on the corner
outfield spots can't really play
third so that makes it a little bit
weird so
just don't write off Connor Joe
and Patrick Wisdom just because they're not
middle infielders but I do think at the end of the day
if you're telling me
that you know he's going to jp he's going to start the year on the iL and he's only going to stay for 10
days and then he'll be back i think will wilson is the obvious answer here unless miles master bony
is ready to go yeah i feel like patrick wisdom was brought in specifically for situations like this
but i do have wilson on my projection here but i wouldn't be surprised if it was wisdom and
they just go with the power upside give themselves a bat off the bench that maybe they use in
desperation times just to see if you can run into one.
All right.

So we're into round four, the Elite 8 of our top 50 Mariners Moments tournament.
Colby, how did round three shake out?
We had a couple of close matchups, didn't we?
Yeah.
I mean, one especially close.
So in what is not a surprise at all, the double advances to the lead eight beats out Carlos Gians, squeeze bunt.
I'm so surprised.
So, Gian did get a couple votes.
Okay.
Trolls live.
And, I mean, not really an upset, but the nine seed did beat the eight seed.
So technically an upset.
But yeah, Edgar's induction to the Hall of Fame beats out Edgar's game for Grand Slam, 5644.
The third matchup, one that you decided you were going to stick your chest down and be like, oh, it's so much better.
Demolished.
73, 27.
Gino's Grand Slam over Leo Rivas' game time.
27% of you no ball.
I mean, technically 26.8.
So, yeah, matchup four, we had Polos' walkoff versus the juniors going back to back.
Tough draw for the juniors.
It really was.
But, yeah, Polo wins that one, 62-38.
So pretty good showing, considering the tough matchup.
but yeah.
And the recency bios?
Yeah, yeah, of course.
Just too much to overcome there.
Cal breaks the drought 90%.
The Mariners clenching the AO West.
I got 10% in 2001.
So they're getting a statue.
Cal will get his in the future.
But for now, Cal moves on.
Our next closest matchup after we have a really close matchup coming up.
But the Mariners winning the division 95 for the first time.
Randy striking out Tim Sam and all that.
19 long years of frustration.
Advances over each row's hit record.
So it was a 55-45 vote there.
So reasonably close with about 370 votes cast.
So not too bad.
Felix's perfect game did not blank their opponent this round.
But they did receive 90% of the vote.
So each year's iconic Star Wars throw, tough draw for it.
But yeah, Felix is,
perfect game moves on.
And finally, a matchup that was decided by three or four votes, literally.
Wow.
Wow.
Yes, 50.5% to 49.5%.
The comeback win in Toronto edges out, Cal Raleigh's 60th Homer.
Wow.
So that's how that went.
Again, every round, we've had a one matchup decided by about 10 votes or less.
That's crazy.
Pretty interesting.
although the vote totals have gone down each round.
So some people are getting pretty lazy.
Just saying.
Seems like you guys don't care enough about your favorite Mariners moment.
Yeah.
So matchup one, it's another Edgar Edgar matchup.
It's the double against him getting into the Hall of Fame.
Yeah.
It's going to be the double.
Yeah, probably.
I mean, this is probably the first time that it'll actually
get like kind of challenge and by kind of i mean like it might be like 80 75 25 yeah yeah maybe yeah maybe
we'll see i mean like i don't know do you only like what edgar did for you or did you like what
edgar you know was rewarded for doing for you i don't know like do you not care about edgar after
the double or or do you actually care about him and his contributions as a whole to the franchise
both on and off the field i mean i don't know i guess we'll see i only
love 95 Edgar or I love Edgar
the entire person
whatever see how transaction with your love is
I suppose
okay all right
that's the angle you want to take on
all right our second matchup
is uh
I mean this is this is an all time
right here yeah
it's uh Gino's grand slam
in game five of the ALCS
against Jorge Polanco's walk walk off single
in the 15th inning of the 2025 ALDS
in game five
yeah yeah
I'm going to guess the walkoff wins this one,
but it's a four or five matchup.
It's exactly what you want, like in terms of, you know,
getting to the elite four or the final four is supposed to be an accomplishment.
You're going to have to go through it.
And, you know, Polo or Genos Grand Slam already crushed one upset bid.
So it wouldn't be an upset per se.
But yeah, this one could go either way.
I just do people
like how are
how are the memories of game six and seven
baked into Gino's moment in people's minds
and again same argument that I have with the Rivas one
like you don't have one without the other
I mean unless the next guy after Polo got the game
walk off hit then you do because there was only one out
so I mean
yeah
I'm just saying
both scores were tied when it happened uh all right matchup three yeah yeah another good one here it's uh the the mayor is clinching the alas in 95 as the 7 seed against the two seed cal's drought enter i think it's going to be cal's drought enter i think so too but uh you know 95 it's it's a thing yeah and uh i i see this being like 65 35 35 cal I think some recency by
Also, you know, Cal's walkoff is just awesome.
And 95 will be represented in the final four.
So we'll see how that goes.
But yeah, there's potential for an upset here.
It just, because our demographic aid are skews younger, I think Cal wins this one fairly comfortably.
But I don't think it's going to be one of those, you know, 90, 10 blots that we've seen pretty considerably throughout the tournament.
Yeah, I think we're done with those.
Yeah, I think so.
The rest of the way, yeah.
And then our final matchup, oh, God.
Felix's perfect game against the comeback in Toronto, game two,
of the American League Wild Card 2020.
Yep.
As I've always said, individual achievements are so much better the team achievements,
so you should probably vote for Felix's perfect game.
Why would you do this to me?
It's just the way it worked.
We did the three and the six.
We figured out those seats together.
And this is just the way the bracket worked.
I was looking forward to the potential debate about like what's better 60 home runs or or a perfect game.
But I mean, yeah, you're going to make me argue against Felix, Felix's perfect game, huh?
My favorite sports memory of all time.
You don't have to.
But it sounds like you kind of want to.
how good is a perfect game really
it's only happened you know
25 times in the history of baseball so
it's only happened once since Felix
right twice once
yeah Hermann right yeah
uh
god it's just it's so rare but then it's also
the mayor's first playoff series went in 21 years
yeah they got so
in the next round though one of the greatest
comebacks in playoff history like playoff baseball history
all time
not even the best playoff moment in mariner's history though
so like you know uh by the way
you think this is tough tie
assuming there are no upsets the final four matchup
will be Cal's drought ender versus Felix's perfect game
so
wow
yeah yeah I can't even project with the other final four match
like the double will probably be in it,
but I don't know who's going to win
between Gino's Grand Slam and Polo's walkoff.
All right.
I'm kind of rooting for Felix's perfect game here
just because I kind of want to see what happens between the...
No, I want to see what happens between the drought ender
and Felix's perfect game.
That would be an interesting matchup for sure.
Yeah, yeah.
Is anybody going to be...
Here's a thing.
Here's a thing.
Cal's Drought Ender is going to smoke the comeback.
went in Toronto, I think.
Okay.
So, but Cal's drought under versus Felix's perfect game, I think that's a whole, whole
another animal.
Felix's perfect game went 100% to nothing in its first round matchup.
And then second round matchup, it went 9010.
So.
Yeah.
So I think I would go with Felix's perfect game because it just sets up a better final
four matchup.
I mean, we'll see how it goes.
But, yeah, I think there's some legitimately good.
matchups there. You got Edgar versus Edgar and the first one. You have the two, you know,
pivotal playoff moments of the 2025 season going head to head against each other. So
recently bias doesn't really affect that matchup. You know, obviously Felix versus the
comeback is one that is particularly funny for you. And then you have, you know, the 95 clincher
versus Cal ending the drought. Like both of those are drought enders. The first one was 19 years. The
second one. I did a 20-year drought. So it's like, you know, 21-year drought. So it's kind of funny that,
you know, you have the Edgers against each other. You have the two drought-ending moments against
each other. And then obviously you have, you know, Ties heartbreak, which is my favorite one.
And you have the two 20-25 playoff moments going up against each other. So, I mean, really good
matchups. Again, just kind of the way the bracket worked out. You thought about receding, but ultimately
just let it play out as a win.
It turned out to work out pretty good.
So we'll see how all these matchups go.
Again, use the link in the description to vote.
And yeah, voting will end Monday morning-ish whenever I wake up.
Or maybe I'll just end it.
Maybe I'll be up Monday at midnight and I'll be like, done now.
So we'll see how it goes.
But yeah, it should be some interesting matchups there.
And we're almost done with how this goes.
didn't time it quite right.
We could have done it before opening day,
but what are you going to do?
You know,
what are you going to do?
What are you going to do?
What are you going to do?
What are you going to?
What I'm supposed to do math?
Look at a calendar and go to Hobbit.
So,
