All right, let's open up the mailback like we do here every Monday and answer some of your Mariners questions.
Aaron's kicking us off here today.
I want to know,
is this new look Mariners offense
the best Mariners lineup since 2001?
And if not,
it was better than them.
Yeah.
Again,
it might be splitting hairs,
but technically that 2001 lineup
was very similar to the 2002 lineup
and the 2003 lineup like that era,
2000s through 2003.
The team won 90 games every year.
Obviously 2001 gets a lot of the press
because they won 100.
or 16.
But those next two years, they won, I think, 93 games, 92 games in both of those seasons.
Like, they were really good.
And by any modern definition, they would have been a playoff team and probably done some
damage there.
They just happened to be in really tough American League West, where the A's won 100 games,
both of years, I think.
So, yeah, I think, like, technically, you could say that that 20 or sorry, 2003,
2002 team was technically the most recent great lineup.
But yeah, it's that era.
It's that 2001 group probably.
And, you know, that's not to say that the Mariners have always had bad lineups, you know, since then.
In the 2018, like 2017, 2018, you know, right before the rebuild, they were running out
Gene Segar and Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seeger and Robinson Canoe.
It just didn't have the one through nine that the Mariners do right now.
now. And so that's the real difference to me is that like there's probably more impact in the
middle of those Canoe Cruz Seeger teams. Like those are just like those three guys alone. We're
hitting 30 home runs a year. Cruz sitting 40. You know, high batting averages, high on base and all
that. And you know, you're not really, you kind of kind of have it. But Gino's not a high average
guy. Cal's not really a high average guy as well. But obviously you're getting a lot of power
there. So yeah, I mean, I think yeah, yeah, saying 2001 is is reasonably
fair. I mean, maybe it's 2002, maybe it's
2003, whatever. Like,
it's that era. And I would
say, yeah, this is the deepest one
through nine that the lineup's been
certainly in the Jerry Depoto era.
And yeah, I mean, I do think that we tend
to overlook those 20s, like the very
early Gino or very early
depoto years, where
it was Cano, Cruz, Seeger,
at the top. But yeah,
no, this is probably the best lineup
we've seen in at least 20
years one through nine so yeah yeah it's so good and it's so fun to watch and the way that they do
damage in so many different ways as well you know they hit bombs they steal bags they take their
walks they frustrate opposing pitchers they run those pitch counts up you have 17 pitch out bats
yeah that was ridiculous man like this offense is just so fun and again like to me really the most
exciting part of what we saw over the course of the homestand and I've said this a bunch over the
last week or so. It's what the
7-8-9 guys have been doing.
You know, what Dom Kanzone has been doing
in JP and Cole Young.
Cole Young has been so fun to watch. And we got a question
about him coming up here in a second.
But, you know, it's those three guys
on top of obviously all the
star power that you have ahead of
them as well. It's just such a fun lineup.
And what Josh Naylor has especially
brought to the table here, what he's doing
on the base pass, some of the pitches
that he's driving for doubles are
ridiculous. It's just
Yeah, it's so fun.
And there's just so many guys that I just,
I love rooting for one through nine in this lineup.
They finally built the lineup that doesn't require Julio to be this.
It doesn't require Cal to be this.
Right.
Well,
and that's the thing,
right?
So like if those guys are actually,
they actually do get to that level,
like sky's the limit for this offense.
That's what makes me so fun.
That's what makes them so dangerous.
And it's just,
yeah,
it's so fun to watch.
And it's so fun to dream on too.
it's arguably the best one through nine in baseball right now.
I know the Dodgers have a ton of talent,
but they have a lot of guys who are struggling.
Mookie Betts is not having a Mookie Betts year right now.
So, you know,
it's one of those things like I don't think there are a lot of
lineups that you would take over this one at the very least.
And so, you know,
obviously they have to perform.
They have to stay healthy.
They have to actually, you know, produce.
But on paper, yeah,
this is a really good lineup.
And it's,
I would say,
pretty easily the best we've seen in 20 years.
Not as good as those mid-90s lineups, though.
but those had like what four hall of famers in it so it's kind of like okay like fair enough
that's not quite that good but it's pretty good uh all right Alex wants to know so if Cole
Young's season ended today how would you rate it a plus this is a 21 year old who is not just
holding his own at the major league level for the last five weeks he's been one of the best second
basement in baseball yeah offensively and so if the season's ending today then we've seen all we need
to see and Cole Young is, you know, a part of this thing for the next five, six years,
at least because of, you know, the stability he brings.
And he's a pretty good defender, not perfect, but pretty good.
We know he's going to give you a real quality at bat pretty much every time out.
He's not afraid to walk.
He doesn't strike out.
And he's shown some real pop that we weren't quite sure we were going to see.
And so since that first, you know, week to 10 days, he has been one of the five or six
best second basement in baseball.
Yeah.
And again, he's doing that at.
21 years old.
Yeah.
And, you know, we've seen the league kind of try to adjust to him a little bit,
and he's made the adjustment pretty quick.
Like when Cole Young slumps, it's for two or three days.
And then the next thing you know, he's, you know, he's two for four with a walk.
Throwing in there, you're like, oh, well, there you go.
He's back.
So, yeah, Young is is an A.
Like, I mean, this is everything you could have hoped for and then some,
particularly since, you know, you kind of had to make it work with, after Ryan Bliss went down,
you had to try and make it work with Dylan Moore and,
Miles Master Boney and all that.
And you didn't really have the Polanco thing to fall back on.
Now Polo can play some second base, which is nice.
But yeah, Young was massive and so much so that he eliminated a need for you at the deadline and allowed you to focus on bigger areas.
And so, yeah, Young has been exceptional.
He's easily the rookie of the year on this team.
You know, I would say he's a bit of a dark horse, but Kurtz is going to win that award.
And that's fine.
he's been really good.
So, yeah, it's just unfortunate, no shot this year.
Last year you might have had a shot.
Probably the after he's probably also ahead of him.
Yeah, yeah.
Like, he's had a really good year.
And obviously, you know, he's, he didn't start soon enough to really stack up counting stats anyways.
But, like, he's been really good this year.
I exceeded expectations, exceeded any reasonable expectation.
And you're sitting around still disappointed by what you've seen in Cole Young.
That's a you problem.
Your expectations were way too high for this guy.
and again, 21 years old, running a higher walk rate than strikeout rate at the major league level.
And this is such a cliche, but I really don't know any other way to describe it,
but he just has such professional, mature at bats.
Ball player.
Yeah.
You know, again, he's just turned 22 years old and he's not really striking out.
He's taking his walks.
I mean, he walked four times the other night.
Cole Young is doing the little things really well.
well and that's what's most exciting about him for me and his consistency in setting the table
for randy rosarana cow raleo ulio etc it's been a big boon for this team and obviously it's a
very small or it's a very low bar to clear but i think you can say with ease that this is the
best second base season the mares have gotten since what 2018 robinson cano before the suspension
maybe 2022 dillimore or 2020 dillamore the uh it's just
It's just COVID season.
All right, we will get into more of your questions in just a moment.
But first, a reminder of this episode of the Lockdown Marys podcast is brought to you by Game Day Hugh.
Today's episode is brought to you by Game Day Hugh.

The hat pairs perfectly with my usual gear.
It doesn't replace my team's logo stuff.
It just adds to the lineup.
It's the kind of hat that reps your team without screaming it.

Before we get back into your questions, just a couple of programming notes, just a couple of things in general that I wanted to bring up.
This is our prospect week.
We are going to be doing our mid-season prospect re-ranked now that the draft and the trade deadline has passed.
So looking forward to that.
We are going to be bulk recording those episodes tomorrow and they will drop tomorrow.
That's Prospects 30 through 21.
Prospects 20 through 11 will drop on Wednesday and prospects 10 through 1 will drop on Thursday.
So we're not going to be doing a lot of game talk this week on the show.
So Anders and Chris have you covered on that.
However, on the Maris Postcasts, of course.
Also, we reached a pretty cool milestone a couple days ago.
For the first time ever in this YouTube channel's history,
we have eclipsed 300,000 views in a 28-day span.
And obviously a lot of that is thanks to the Marys playing, you know, great ball and coming through with some banger trades and a banger draft and all that stuff.
But we really appreciate you guys choosing to rock with us during this really fun run for the Marys.
So thank you guys so much.
Really appreciate it.
We've also added so many new subscribers over the last month or so.
We've reached some other milestones that we've posted about as well.
So just thank you guys so much for all the support.
It's been awesome to see.
All right.
let's get back into your questions
Stephen Bergwin enthusiast wants to know
as of right now who are your preferred
candidates for the extra two roster spots
come September so it's going to be a pitcher
and a hitter right now I'd go
Harry Ford and I go
for the arm
Saurin Lough
Emerson Hancock
yeah there's really not a good answer
for the arm yeah pretty much any way you slice it
they're an arm short
which we knew they would be
Yeah, Lousman
Lowe's been pretty good
Yeah,
down on the mountains
Yeah,
Yeah, so that would be my choice
And then, yeah,
Harry Ford,
getting him a cup of coffee,
it's always nice to have a third catcher
in September as well.
Sure.
He's more than earned it.
Yeah, a nice bonus too,
is that like he's not just the third
emergency catcher on.
He can actually run a little bit
and, you know, all that.
Like, he was good athlete,
so you're not just wasting a spot on,
you know,
respect, but like it's not like you have Mike Marjima on your bench and he's literally only there
because he can catch.
Steve Barron.
Yeah.
But, you know, one thing to keep in mind here is that we don't actually know what the 26th man
is going to look like before we get to September because there's a lot of guys working the way
back from injury.
And it's also worth noting that, you know, who you call up on September 1st doesn't have
to be here on September 2nd.
Right.
So, like, you can call up.
you know, Harry Ford for a week and then be like, okay, there's a cup of coffee and then send him
back down and then call up Miles Master Boney or whatever. Like you can really play with those spots.
So it's not like you once you call a guy up, he has to be up for you for the entire month.
So you're probably going to use that extra spot on a couple of different arms throughout that time.
So yeah, the arm is is the difficult one. We'll see. Maybe they want to try Hancock out of the
bullpen. If they're going to do that, they should probably make that transition here pretty soon.
Yeah. Just to get him, you know, acclimated to that. It doesn't,
take as long as it does to go the other way.
So you don't have to necessarily force it.
But it'd just be nice to get him a routine coming out of the bullpen and all that.
You know, they tried it with Evans last year.
It didn't really work.
And they seemed content to ride with Evans as the number five starter for the rest of the
year.
So why not?
And again, if something happens and you need Hancock to make a start, at this stage,
it won't take them too long to get back into starter mode and all that.
So, yeah, maybe Hancock is the arm.
I was fine. Again, you'll probably have Troy Taylor at some point, even though he hasn't been great.
But yeah, there's not a lot of options, you know, in your system, which is a problem that we've talked about quite a bit.
Maybe a Michael Hobbs could be a guy they call it from AA, maybe a Tyler Cleveland,
who's having a really good year down in double A and kind of gives you a funky arm angle and you can kind of see what that looks like.
And the other thing to keep in mind here is where are they at playoff position-wise, because that's probably going to dictate because if they're
comfortably in a playoff spot, they're probably going to be willing to take a bit of a risk here.
They'll probably prioritize the Tyler Cleveland and see what he has over, you know, Emerson Hancock.
We kind of already know who you have.
Or maybe they call up Hancock because it's like, hey, let's rest our starters go to a six-man for the last couple of weeks because we feel really good that we're going to be in the playoffs and all that.
And we can rest these guys, blah, blah, blah.
But yeah.
So I think assuming Rayleigh and Robles are already back on the big league roster.
by September, which seems like they will be.
Then the guys who are going to be sent down for those is one will be
Master Boney.
I imagine Solano gets DFA'd at that point.
I just,
I don't know how you justify keeping him.
And it seems like they're definitely going to keep Dillem more throughout the year.
So assuming that,
then you could just call it Miles Masterbony,
who, you know,
will give you a decent bat.
He'll play in multiple positions.
He can run the bases.
So he's kind of an ideal,
and he's a left-handed bat to balance out kind of a right-handed head.
heavy right handed heavy bench so yeah i could see it be a miles of matrimony but i would like to see
them give harry ford a cup of coffee well and i would like to see if they can figure out if he's the
best way for them to maximize their roster moving forward and 2026 no in 2025 like having him
leave garber off of your playoff roster and bring harry forward with you maybe because i mean ford's
because he can run and and do all that stuff off the bench like you know you know
Right. Like how much is, yeah, how much is Mitch Carver going to play in the playoffs? Hopefully not.
Right. Yeah. I mean, that would be the hope, sure. So, and if there's an injury, you could just call up Garber. Like, so maybe. But yeah, I'd like to see him give forward at least a cup of coffee. I feel like he's earned it. He's done everything they've asked of him. And there's really no reason not to find a way to get him a couple of starts in September. And like I said, it doesn't have to be a long term. Then you can send him back down after a couple days. But, you know, reward the guy at the first round pick who's done.
everything and is put in the work and the results are finally here at, you know, the highest
level of the miners. So I do think I'd like to see Harry Ford. And then for the arm,
I'm pretty intrigued by Cleveland. There is something about his delivery and his arm angle that
is unique to what the Mariners have right now in their bullpen. And he's performing very well,
although he's doing it as like a 26 year old in double A. So yeah. But yeah, I think it's probably
Ford and somebody like that.
And then I think they'll probably call up four or five different dudes throughout September
with the arm.
And then I would guess they call it two or three guys in September.
And by the end, it could be Ryan Bliss.
If he can make it back by the end of the season, he can do the running and he can play
multiple spots that Harry Ford kind of can't right now.
So.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Bliss is able to make it back.
Then Bliss probably fits that mold better than Ford does.
And, you know, if Cal, knock on wood, you know, goes down in the playoffs,
specifically like during a game
you probably don't want a rookie
trying to you know call a game
you know in the ALDS or ALCS or
or whatever right so
or the wild card around like yeah
yeah so yeah
I think Ford has earned it
give him a shot why not and then
I would I'll go Cleveland
as my first guy but
just pick a guy there's really not a great option
down there that I'm dying to see
Deepanky wants to know favorite moment
of each row's number
retirement speech. You know, it's probably not a big surprise just based on, you know,
Japanese culture and the way each row reveres baseball in general. But the first like half of
his speech was all about Randy Johnson. Yeah. I thought that was cool. And it was,
it was fun because there's still some healing that needs to happen between Randy and, you know,
the organization, they, they screwed him. Like they really did. But they kind of tried to ruin his
career to save face.
And, you know, I feel like they haven't got enough grief for that, which I'm sure we'll
be able to talk about a lot next summer because Randy will have his number 51 retired next
summer as well.
So I thought it was really cool to show the respect that Echro had for not only the number,
but what it represents in Seattle and that whole, you know, honoring of Randy Johnson on
his day.
I thought that was pretty cool.
So I would say that was my favorite, that he spent so much time making sure that, you
know, everybody knew that Randy was like this great guy who let him have the number and
all that and how he wanted to honor that number because he respected Randy so much.
And I thought that was pretty cool.
And then, you know, him addressing the team.
They do that every time.
But yeah, that was, that was cool.
Like, Eitro, a couple good speeches in a couple weeks.
The jokes work too.
Like, yeah, Echro's a funny guy.
So I thought that was, that was awesome.
It was a really cool thing.
Yeah.
Him addressing the team was a little bit different, though, than when other people have addressed the team because obviously each row is there.
Yeah, Eitro's there every day.
He's helping these guys.
He knows them on a very deep personal level more than some of these other guys that have come through, obviously.
So, you know, and Beter was in the booth after that.
So you obviously didn't hear it because you read the game.
But, you know, he talked about how like the guys that were on that O1 team and just those teams in general in that era, they're still.
pissed off to the stay about not being able to put a banner up in the rafters.
And so Itiro knows.
Itro knows that feeling.
He had to learn the hard way.
He kind of talked about that how, you know,
I took winning for granted after we won 116 games in 2001.
And then as we all know,
he never got back there in Ameris uniform.
Like we all know and each row knows very well just like we all do.
Like how hard it has been for this club to just even get back to the point of being in the dance,
you know,
let alone actually contend for a championship.
And obviously this club in particular has such a great opportunity.
And we just talked about all the reasons why with this offense.
And we know what this pitching can be and all that.
So I just,
I really appreciated him taking the time to kind of address what this moment ultimately means for this club.
And again,
because he,
you know,
he's there every day with these guys.
And he's kind of going to war with them as well and trying to help them,
you know,
maximize their talent,
maximize this moment for them.
So love that.
loved the you know what's up
Seattle loved uh him talking about
having a hot dog with his wife during the game
and then yeah they they cut to him in like
fourth inning yeah he's up there having a hot die
with his wife love that so yeah I just
I thought he crushed the speech it was just it was awesome
and you know just seeing that highlight package
that they put together beforehand before he walked out
just everything like I just I felt like a kid
again yeah the letters to each row thing I made the mistake
of watching that
walking around a home goods
so I was like sobbing
inside of a home goods
and then when I got to the ballpark
I was tearing up but I kind of knew
like what was happening already
so it didn't full on sob
but like yeah I was like
what am I doing watching this stuff in public
like people are going to think I just have my
iPod or my headphones in crying
and that's not a good look
in home goods on a early Saturday afternoon
what are you doing man
but yeah
listen to your novels
your audiobooks.
That's right.
All right.
We will answer a couple more
of your questions here
in just a moment.
But first,
a reminder of this episode
of the Locktime Marys

once again by Fanduel.

Fan duel, play your game.
And you're listening to the Locktime Errors podcast.
It's Mailbag Monday.
Let's get back into your questions.
Jordan wants to know if he had the power
what are you doing to lock up Nailer?
How long for how much?
Yeah, Nailer's a kind of an interesting
player because he's first base only
so you're not getting a ton of defensive value
out of him.
Not that he's a bad first baseman.
It's just there's a limit to how much value
first base defense can give you.
Yes.
He's not a fast runner.
Great base dealer though.
But like, you know, how repeatable is that?
I don't know.
it's tough to say you're going to get like you're definitely going to get plus base running value out of him plus he's a bigger body he's a short squat you know squat guy bigger body dude uh so you wonder how that's going to break down but he's also only 28 years old yeah and he's been very durable in his entire career already and and you know he's actually hitting at team mobile park right now and and he's been so good for you and he brings that kind of i want to say counter energy because they're not like at at war with each other but you have Julio you have
have Randy, you have Victor, like, you kind of need that other end that like Gary talked about
on Friday. Like you need that kind of like just furious intensity at the baseball game, you know,
that you, it's just a little different, you know, and you kind of need that in your clubhouse.
So there's some negatives here. There's some positives. And I think the biggest negative is he's
probably going to have quite a market, you know, so you're going to have to outbid some teams.
And I don't think you're going to get him to sign an extension. Like why at this point,
why wouldn't he test free agency?
He just has to wait.
It's not like Luis Castillo where he had to wait another year after that offseason.
He has to wait two months.
And he can have his choice and go wherever he wants.
And I don't know.
I don't know if he's going to want to come here or not.
I don't know.
You try getting a read on Josh Naylor.
Okay.
Yeah.
If I had to guess, he's probably still in the feeling outstage.
And maybe eventually he gets to a place where he's like, you know what?
I actually do want to be here.
And I feel comfortable being in here.
long term. But still even at that point, I feel like it would be just for just from his standpoint,
I feel like he would be doing a disservice to himself not to at least explore what else is out there,
what other opportunities might present themselves to him. And also he might, you know,
look, players are aware of the reputation of the Seattle errors and how little they've been
willing to spend money. You know, and Justin Turner talked about this last year. And obviously
Turner is a much worse player than Josh Naylor is at this point in his career. No disrespect.
Yeah, yeah, no disrespect.
Yeah, love him.
But, you know, that's just the reality of this situation.
But again, like we heard Justin Turner talk about this like, oh, I'm all you're going to do this off season.
You know, so maybe Naylor wants to wait and see like what the Mariners plan is for this upcoming off season.
Are they going to be willing to spend money beyond just bringing him back?
Are they going to be willing to also bring, you know, Gino back, polo back, you know, or go out and, you know, get like actual like legit replacement.
for those guys.
So that might also factor into the situation here.
But the other thing that makes this kind of complicated is there isn't really a good contract
cop for him.
Like for a 28 year old first base only,
it was obviously really good.
But he's also not Vlad Jr.
He's not.
He's not even Pete Alonzo.
He's not Freddie Freeman.
Well,
and even with Pete,
we don't know what Pete's going to get yet.
Yeah.
I mean,
he had to take one.
your prove a deal basically yeah i mean like the kind of closest thing is j cronanworth but that was an
extension that he signed with the podrays and that was after you know he was a success being a what a
rule five guy was he one of those guys that got traded off the 40 minutes he got traded right before
but whatever yeah yeah but like you know that's a hey we're willing to give you some money take it
or leave it that's yeah so that's not that's not really a cop there so i don't i don't really know like
what the baseline is for for naler yeah he's significantly younger than uh christian walker and hosea
brayu yeah so yeah there's not a ton there i i think probably your closest cop is is pita lanzo
like i was thinking like the the number that i was thinking was like five and one hundred
five years a hundred million dollars five years what i was in about 20 million dollars a year yeah 20 to 22
million a year was what I was thinking so I mean you just kind of do the math here if he's about a two-win
player that's the other thing too he's the first baseman he's a good hitter he's not an elite hitter
he's a 120 w rc plus guy so yeah it's one of those things like you don't have to get nailer done
like this isn't to me one of those players it's like give him whatever we make the jokes like
blank check whatever no no no no you have to be very smart about this one just like you have to be
very smart about gino because of the age this one's different but it's it's positional value
and all that and how easily can we replace this guy.
So assuming he wants to be here, right?
Which is an assumption, big assumption to make.
I'm assuming that the price is reasonable and assuming that John Stanton is willing to spend money.
We don't know if he is or not.
I mean, history would say not, but also they were very aggressive at this deadline.
If they make a deep playoff run, that might be incentive enough for them to spend some money because they see how much they can make.
I don't know.
But I would say about 20 million a year would be my guess.
Yeah.
four to five years in there.
If I can get him for less than four and 80,
I don't have to think about it.
If it's between four and five at about 20 million a year,
maybe I'd like to know what the rest of my budget is,
you know,
and I'd like to know where my payroll situation is before I make that decision.
Anything more than that?
We're talking six, seven years.
I'm out entirely.
You're talking, you know, $25 million.
I'm probably out on that as well,
unless it's a shorter deal, like three years,
25 million, something like that.
that but yeah so i i think four to five years between 80 to 100 million dollars that's right
where i'm at that's about the most i'm willing to spend on on nailer based on what my other needs are
and not knowing what the payroll situation is going to look like all right really fan once now
do you guys think randy should continue to lead off the rest of the year i mean if it ain't broke
it'll fix it yeah i mean it's working right now sure that's fine if it stops working and make a change but
like yeah for now like i i wouldn't write
write him in pen every single day.
Like I wouldn't fill out the next 45 lineup cards in pen and stick him in the leadoff
spot.
But for now, sure.
But for the rest of the year, I don't know.
Well, also with the way that, again, the 789 guys are setting the table right now for
the top of the lineup.
Like, yeah, I'm totally down with Randy being the first guy.
All right.
Last question of the day comes from anonymous.
How do we get Robles and rarely enough playing time?
It's, uh, is it a right field rotation?
D.H. at bats.
We're giving someone like Randy or Julio a D.
day or day off.
I think it's all of the above.
Yes. Yeah.
It's all of the above.
Yeah, I think it's a great opportunity to give some guys some days off,
especially if it's starting to look more and more like you are going to be playing in October.
So getting ready for that.
Yeah, I don't really know how the Rayleigh situation in general is going to play out,
like how you're actually going to be able to.
Because look, we know how good Luke Rayleigh can be.
So I want to try and get them in the lineup.
I just don't know how you're going to.
going to do that with any sort of consistency.
I don't know how you're actually going to be able to get him the at-bats that he really needs.
Because, like, taking Dom Kanzano out of the lineup, a good amount isn't very warranted right now,
like he's hitting.
And also, you might already be taking Kanzano out of the lineup against some lefties to get
Robles in there.
So, yeah, I just don't really know how that works out.
Yeah.
You know, obviously, again, like you said, you're not benching Nailer regularly.
you're not benching Canzone right now, not regularly.
Robles is a pretty easy fit.
You know, he's going to platoon with Canzone,
and he probably should be playing defense every single night from the seventh inning on.
Unless you're trailing, you know, can't zone spots coming up,
but whatever.
Like defensive replacement, pinch running,
going to hit against lefties, probably get some starts in center field
just to give Julio time off,
especially again if Seattle feels comfortable about where they're at playoff wise.
Yeah, Rayleigh, it's tough to say.
But, I mean, you want him because he is an upgrade over your two corner guys defensively right now.
You can also help you in centerfield like Robles can.
He can also run the bases.
And he's your best bet right now to come off the bench and hit a big home run.
So you're going to have to find a role for him.
But you can't really expect him to do all that if he doesn't play.
But again, who do you take out to let him play when his two most obvious options are, I don't want to say similar?
offensively, but they have kind of the same
drawbacks offensively as really does.
So there are like
four opportunities that you could give
them a week to get in the lineup. One night
he's giving Naylor a blow. The next night he's
giving Canzon a blow. The next night he's giving Randy
a blow and the next night maybe he's giving Julio a blow.
Also there's the DH
until Robles gets back obviously
and then Robles is probably the main
guy to give Julio a day off.
There's also the DH so you can get
Cole Young a day off and put Polo at second
like they like to do.
uh yeah or vice versa a week yeah yeah about once or twice a week polo will go play second and
and cole will get that day off and then the dh is open usually those coincide with cowl
deaching days but maybe i don't know god forbid you give cow a full day off once a week and
and you let rayley dh and garber can catch and and so um yeah you can do it it's just it's going to be
a little tricky there are going to be times where a guy you don't want out of the lineup
it's just going to have to be out of lineup you know it's a good problem to have but yeah how
they manage that how they maneuver that it's going to be really
interesting to see like do you take out Cole young like or like do you take out like jp crawford
like down by two with the runner on second and third uh and one out and do you go with luke raley
knowing that you now have to put dillamore out at shortstop the next inning or like are you
playing for the home run or you playing for like so yeah but you also again the you can't just
have a guy sit on the bench for three weeks and be like oh we need a home run Luke here's your
one at bat for the next week figured out uh so yeah it's going to be really tricky uh but i i i
think they can maneuver it around where they can give Rayleigh, you know, three to four games a week
and maybe a couple of them come at the expense of Dom-Can zone.
But, yeah, I think for the most part, Canzone is kind of the hot hand you're riding right now.
And if that starts to change, then maybe Luke does eventually become the primary right fielder.
So nothing's set in stone.
But, yeah, it's going to be a little tricky at first to maneuver.
But, you know, I think they have enough flexibility defensively, Luke, in particular.
that you could still get him, you know, three, four starts a week, even when he just
starts, I mean, even when he first comes back.
I still think you can find a way to make that happen.
God, how awesome is this?
Oh, no, we have this really good hitter coming back.
How do we get him at bats?
I don't think I've ever said that about the Seattle Mariners.
Two of our three best hitters from August 1st on last year are going to be bench players
for you this year during your playoff stretch.
Isn't that suck?
All right.
That is going to do it for our show.
