Starting point is 00:00:00 So apparently the Mariners are looking into trades not many have even considered. All right. Let's really think outside the box then. Colby, hit it. You are locked on Mariners. Your daily Seattle Mariners podcast. Part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Ahoy, Sailors.
Starting point is 00:00:25 It is Friday, January 9th, 2026. You're listening to the Lockdown Marers podcast. Part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, now the number one sports podcast network. My name is Tiding Azales, and I'm joined as always by my co-coast Colby Patnode. We're two lifelong Marys fans who've been covering the team for over half a decade. And today, we're going to look at a couple of potential trade targets we haven't talked a ton about this off season. But before we do, a couple things we need to get to. Firstly, I want to shout out our title sponsor today, Fanduel.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Before tip off, check the Fandual app and see what's dropping during NBA happy hour every Friday from 6 to 7.30 p.m. Eastern. Secondly, a couple of smaller things. we need to get to here first in the first segment of this episode. Some Mariners adjacent news coming out this morning. Catelle Marte, according to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic, is not going to be traded this winter. The Diamondbacks have officially pulled him off of the trade market. Apparently it didn't even get close.
Starting point is 00:01:28 They set a very, very high asking price, and no team was willing to even get close to meeting that. So we can finally move on on the Catele front. Now, I'm sure the mayor has moved on a while ago, but it was still up in the air from the public perspective. So we can finally move on on that front now. And then arbitration numbers have finally come out. Yesterday was the deadline for teams and players to exchange offers officially.
Starting point is 00:02:01 the merits came to an agreement they avoided arbitration with all but one of their arbitration eligible players this year interestingly you know we talk about how like accurate MLB trade rumors has been in the past this year not as much I mean they weren't super far off like don't get me wrong but like the projections were a little bit less accurate than they usually are this year radio Rosarena came in about almost three million dollars under what he was projected by MLB trade rumors. He was projected to make 18.2. He wound up making 15.6 yesterday.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Matt Brash comes in at $1.5 million. He was projected to make about 1.8. Logan Gilbert comes in at $10.9. So basically $11 million. He was projected to make 10 flat. George Curry comes in at 6.5. He was projected to make $5.4. So he gets about a million dollar bump from what his projection was.
Starting point is 00:03:01 uh, Luke really comes in a little bit over his projection, uh, $2 million. Uh, he was projected to make 1.8 and then Gabe Spire comes in at $2.1 million. He was projected to make 1.8 as well, I think, 1.7 doesn't matter. Uh, so yeah,
Starting point is 00:03:20 the only guy that they didn't come to an agreement with is Bryce Miller. Uh, apparently they're about $375,000, uh, parts. Now, just because they didn't come to an, an agreement yesterday really need to make this clear doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to arbitration.
Starting point is 00:03:37 It could. They still very well could go to arbitration, but yesterday was only the deadline to submit formal offers to each side. After that deadline passes, you can still negotiate and you can still come to an agreement before your arbitration hearing actually comes up. And hopefully, you know, common sense prevails here and they get something done. because, you know, once you get to an arbitration hearing, feelings can get hurt, and do you really want to do that over $375,000?
Starting point is 00:04:09 No. Now, there's even sillier discrepancies between some teams and players, this arbitration period, like, Cade Cavali, $75,000 apart, like, come on. And then there's obviously the Terrick Scoobel thing where they're $13 million apart, him and the Tigers, that's insane. That's the biggest discrepancy. I've ever seen. The Tigers might as well trade him.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Like he's not to Seattle. To Seattle. I mean, whatever. It doesn't matter. They should trade him. He's clearly not resigning with you. He's disrespected him. You weren't even willing to make him the highest paid pitcher in arbitration history.
Starting point is 00:04:47 You're like, oh, it's pretty close to that 2015 David Price number. Scoobles better than David Price ever was. And also not for nothing. There's this thing called inflation. Yeah. And Price signed his extension. his, you know, Arb number 10 years ago. Yeah, it's insane.
Starting point is 00:05:07 It's insane. So, yeah, as far as as Bryce goes, I mean, yeah, it sucks that they weren't able to get something done yesterday just so this thing isn't like lingering. But, but yeah, hopefully they can just get done here soon. So they don't have to go to arbitration because that's, you know, obviously it's his first year in arbitration. And again, it's such a small number to the team. Like, just get it done for you guys.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Right. And, of course, all the heat should be on the team, not the player, especially for a guy like Bryce, who wasn't a high draft pick, didn't have a huge signing bonus, has been making the league minimum for the last couple of years. This is this first year of arbitration. So 375,000 to the Mariners, that's half of a minimum contract. That's nothing to them. 375 to Bryce Miller, who by the way also was injured this last year with some elbow stuff that he has not getting surgery on. That is substantial for him. So yeah, it's totally on the team to get this figured out.
Starting point is 00:06:10 And, you know, ultimately they should get something figured out because there's really no benefit whatsoever to go into arbitration. None. All you're accomplishing really is getting that relationship off to a rocky start. And I think Bryce Miller is someone that Lamarers would like to keep beyond his current rookie agreement. So, probably don't want to do anything that would,
Starting point is 00:06:33 you know, get that off to a bad start. Sure. And there are other avenues. They could just agree to a one-year deal or they could agree to, you know, a two-year deal and buy out next year's arbitration as well. So we'll see what they ultimately do. But I think I'd be pretty surprised that this went to arbitration.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And I think it would be, just terrible on the Mariners front if they actually allowed it to get that far. Yeah. Yeah. So again, it's not the silliest discrepancy, but it's just so minuscule. Just get it done. Skulli, we have had a lot of time to our own devices because the marines have been done a ton and all their moves have been pretty sporadic, as is the case with the off season. But we've had a lot of time to think about almost every single trade.
Starting point is 00:07:22 target that seems you know at least semi-realistic free agent target etc but according to ryan divish marries are looking at trades that we the general mariners viewing public haven't really thought much about so we're going to put our thinking caps on we're going to talk about one guy that he mentioned and then we're going to talk about another guy that we've glossed over for obvious reasons In just a moment. Now, most of that interview is behind Puck's paywall, but he did post a little stippet of their conversation.
Starting point is 00:09:52 on yesterday's live show. And in that stipend, Divish says that the Mariners are looking at trades that none of us have really considered. So what does that I actually mean, right? Because like maybe we've considered them, but like maybe Divish hasn't considered them. Who knows, right?
Starting point is 00:10:11 But he did mention Stephen Kwan. I don't know if this is actually because of something he's heard or he's just speculating. But he did mention Stephen Kwan as a guy. And obviously, we haven't heard a lot about the Mariners. and outfielders, but maybe they finally pivoted on, you know, hey, we just need the bat. So we're actually willing to look at outfielders more than we were at the start of the
Starting point is 00:10:30 off season. Kwan has two years left to club control. We've talked about him a bit more so on like fan fiction Friday when, you know, some of our listeners have submitted trade ideas with him involved. We haven't really just talked about him in general, though. So we'll do that a little bit here. But the idea from Divish, it was pretty simple, right? you get Kwan in now and then he kind of serves as your randy a Rosarana replacement next year.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And Kwan, he settled his arbitration number yesterday. $7.75 million. So it's very affordable for the mayor's. And again, you get a guy who's, you know, an elite defender could absolutely play right field with the arm that he has. Strong arm. I believe he led baseball and assist, outfielders, an assist last year. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:22 So accurate charm. Yeah. Doesn't strike out, you know, walks a fair amount, gets on base at a good clip. It's just, you know, the WRC plus output has been inconsistent. You know, his first year he was 125. Then the next year was 99. Then the next year after that, he was 131. Then the year after that, he was 99, which was this past year.
Starting point is 00:11:45 But he's consistently been, you know, three to four win player. A lot of that has been because of the glove. but he's also like even in the years that he hasn't put up you know a great wRC plus in the years that he's put up basically a you know a league average w rc plus he's still been a high average hitter he's still been you know a traditional lead off type of hitter uh he would help so you like the quant idea yeah uh it's fine it's a little bit like uh the nico horner of the outfield where it's like a lot of the value is the glove and and uh good base running horner's a better base stealer but Juan's a good base runner. He probably swipy 20 bags. But it's a little bit like that. Horner's a little bit more consistent with the bat, which makes him the better player to go get.
Starting point is 00:12:33 But Kwan's got a couple years, like Divish mentioned, so you could replace, you know, Randy and left field if you needed to next year. So, yeah, I think it's, I don't think it's a bad idea. But there is some real question about what bat are you going to get. If you're going to get the league average bat, It significantly hampers, you know, the value of what you should give up for Kwan. And you won't know what you're going to get because like you said, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:01 it seems like in every other year thing, he's 25% above league average or he's league average or slightly below. And that's a lot of inconsistency. And we're talking about a guy who doesn't really bring much power to the game, although he has added some pop to the, you know, Arsenal, 25 homers over the last two years combined. So yeah compared to 11 combined over his first two years right. So there's a little more pop there. The average skills, he's going to hit 270, 280, somewhere in that range. The on base percentage probably going to be at least 3.30.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Keep in mind, league average for on base is about 315 to 320. So, you know, changes every year. But he's going to get on base at least an above average clip. And there's always the possibility you kind of get that boom year where he hits 290, 370, 430 or whatever and hits 15 homers and steals 20 bags and gives you elite, you know, corner defense. So I like the idea we heard. It was funny this last summer we heard like, oh, the guardians are going to trade Kwan. And then they didn't end up trading them.
Starting point is 00:14:04 And then very early on in the winter, we heard like, oh, there's no chance. Kwan is on the Guardians opening day roster. They're going to trade him this winter. And then after that, we didn't hear anything about this guy in any rumor for any team. Like it's just been dead quiet on him. So that's kind of why the rumors died. But yeah, Kwan is a good fit. Again, he's left-handed hitter.
Starting point is 00:14:25 That's not ideal. He doesn't play in the infield. That's not ideal. He doesn't have a ton of pop. That's not ideal. But at the end of the day, he's a three and a half four-win player who has the offensive upside to be 25 to 30 percent above league average. You're at the point now.
Starting point is 00:14:41 You can't get too picky with this. You need more talent. You need more wins on this roster. And Kwan certainly gives you that. So you have to be interested. in an idea like Stephen Kwan. Well, and he's an upgrade over what you are currently set to deploy in right field. You know, we'll see what kind of your Luke Rayleigh has.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Now, DeVishton mentioned Rayleigh as maybe being a part of this trade for Kwan. I can see it. To give the Guardians, you know, a left-handed major league outfield bat, corned outfield bat. You know, and then the Guardians making a ton of sense for it. I mean, we had Rayleigh traded to the Guardians in our off-season plan. earlier this winter. So, yeah, so that all makes sense.
Starting point is 00:15:23 I mean, Kwan would just take Rayleigh's spot on the roster. You would push Victor Rubless into a true fourth outfielder role, and you would keep the Rob Reff Snyder, Dom-Kanzum, platoon at D.H intact. You wouldn't really have to move much around roster-wise if you acquire Kwan. And frankly, it would just push everyone into a more preferred role. Right. You know, I do wonder. I didn't pull these numbers, but I'm curious how is Kwan hit at Team Mobile Park in the past?
Starting point is 00:15:57 Not that's the end-all be-all, but like... I can pull that up in a second if you stole it long enough. Sure. Vamp, vamp. But yeah, it's one of those things where it's like... Over here, over here. Keys. Ooh, shiny.
Starting point is 00:16:16 But anyways. Yeah, I think the interesting thing about the Kwan, like trade packages, how much does Luke Rayleigh take out of that return? Because when Rayleigh is healthy, he's a better hitter than Stephen Kwan, at least against Rite's. He's a better hitter. He brings more pop. You get him for an extra year. I'm not saying you should be able to swap these guys straight up. Of course not.
Starting point is 00:16:42 But, like, you know, is he just a throw-in? because if he is, that's how the guardians are going to treat him. I'm not really interested in moving him in this tray because I don't know if I'm significantly better offensively going from Kwan to a healthy Luke Rayleigh now. Do we know Luke Rayleigh is going to be healthy this year? No, we don't. But like, now could Luke Rayleigh help me get Matt Festa?
Starting point is 00:17:06 That's what I was about. Yeah. That's about, that's what I was about to say is like maybe it is like Sanja and the comp around B pick or whatever and Luke Rayleigh. but Rayleigh's inclusion also allows you to get the reliever you want. And we've talked a little bit about Matt Festa, you know, Hunter Gattis,
Starting point is 00:17:23 although Festa's just as good. And then there's some Pounceback guys. And Cleveland always has some interesting arms that you can. So like you can expand the deal. I'm just saying like if it's like, hey, we want this and then you're going to throw Luke Rayleigh on top of all that to, you know, sweeten the pot, no, I'm not, I'm not certain that, you know, my offense is better
Starting point is 00:17:45 by trading Luke Rayleigh if he's not going to, you know, lessen the rest of the cost significantly for a guy like Stephen Kwan. So Kwan in 61 played appearances at Team Mobile Park has slashed 268, 295, 357. That's an 81 WRC plus. Yeah. Yeah. Now, obviously, his former teammate Josh Naylor also had pretty bad numbers at the mobile park before he hit his way to Seattle. So like back in the day when they acquired Turner, when they acquired Randy, and, And Luke Rayleigh also, we were like, yeah, look at those guys.
Starting point is 00:18:17 They all have a track record if any of Team Mobile Park. That makes sense. And then they trade for Josh Naylor. And that dude had worse numbers than that. And he loves sitting here. So, again, it's only 61 played appearances. When you look at the profile, the type of hitter, Kwan is, he's not a guy who's trying to, you know, hit home runs to the left center gap, to the right center gap. He's just put in a play guy and run, you know, more of a slap hitter type of guy.
Starting point is 00:18:40 And the pole power that he has will play fine at Team Mobile Park. It's just, you know, that is a question. How is this guy going to hit a Team Mobile Park? And you can make an argument that he'll hit very well because his style, you know, doesn't depend on driving the ball in the air or, you know, it could go the other way. So, you know, he had some balls in the gap to get caught instead of dropping for doubles and triples.
Starting point is 00:19:02 But overall, I think you have to be interested in Kwan. And I do think that there is a broader, wider deal out there that could make a lot of sense, too, if Cleveland's willing to add some bullpen arms or if there's some kind of like prospect swap involved or something like that. So yeah, the Kwan idea definitely considers a more advanced look.
Starting point is 00:19:23 While you have the numbers up there, what is Qan, what is the splits? Like how does he do? Just like his overall splits? Yeah. So he is a career 273 hitter against lefties, 285 hitter against Ritees. It's a 120
Starting point is 00:19:40 WRC plus against Ritey's, 93 against lefties. So he's playable against lefties, but he's not he's not average. He still hits for a high average against them and still hits and still gets on base quite a bit. Yeah, it's just no no slug, which that's fine. Let me just to put this out there, would you rather have a guy who is like a 160 against righties, but a 50 against lefties? Or would you rather have what Kwan is where he's not as good against right?
Starting point is 00:20:13 specific role that I'm trying to fill right now. Probably what Kwan is. You kind of need an everyday player. Yeah. Lefty already. And so I think Kwan is that. But again, I just, I don't think we should be looking at Luke Rayleigh. It's like, oh, he's, he can't help you. Just throw, who cares, trade him, yeah, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Yeah. No. Rayleigh is still a very interesting piece. I mean, Rayleigh had back to back 129 WRC plus seasons. And last year, you can very much point. to injuries as being a big reason that he fell off of club yeah he had what he had the the back he had the and then there was the stuff with the with his vision as well yeah so he had the back the oblique you know thing but like also yeah also the vision stuff you know he was wearing
Starting point is 00:20:59 glasses off and on you can't hit and if your body's like that it there's just no way and keep in mind this is a guy who's very cheap he's only going to make what two million dollars this year and he has a proven track record of being a hit at T-Mobile Park. Those guys don't come cheap. So again, I'm not interested in. I would, if the difference between me, you know, if it's like, hey, do you want to give up Teddy McGraw or do you want to give up Luke Rayleigh to complete this package? I would much rather give up a Teddy McGraw prospect than I would Luke Rayleigh.
Starting point is 00:21:30 So I don't want people to view Rayleigh as a throw in. He has to bring significant value in a trade. I mean, not like, not like a top prospect. It's just so hard because it's like, it's just so hard. because he is, I mean, right now as the roster is currently constructed, he, like, the fit is obvious, but like, in general, he's just kind of a tough fit because of the presence of Canzone.
Starting point is 00:21:51 And now if you're, like, also factoring in Stephen Kwan into the equation. Sure, but I've said it before I'll say it again. I'd rather have Rayleigh than Canzone, and Canzone has two options left. So you don't have to force this is what I'm saying. But also it's like, you know, like you want to try and value
Starting point is 00:22:08 what Rayleigh has been in the past, but how our team is going to value him given the year that he's coming off of even with all the contacts that we've talked about. So like it's just it's a it's such a complicated situation. Right. I'm just saying the Mariners shouldn't discount him too much. Yeah, absolutely. He is still a valuable asset for this ballpark for this team.
Starting point is 00:22:28 And he still is a good fit because again, Dom can's own. It can't zone had the same track record of Rayleigh. See ya. He does not even close. He has about a quarter of the track record of Luke Rayley. So and not to mention. Rayleigh's a better base runner, better outfielder, all that. So we'll, I'm sure we'll at some point discuss Canzone versus Rayleigh.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Because Lord knows the Mariners aren't giving us much else to talk about. All right. So let's talk about the guy that we haven't talked about for obvious reasons, but the Mariners have had some interest in him in the past. And his fit on his current club is murky at best, I would say. So if we're thinking outside the box, let's talk about him. We'll go over that in just a moment. But first, a reminder of this episode of the Locktime Airs podcast is brought to you by Fanduel.

As always, if you want to hear from me and Colby even more and help support the show, we have a Patreon. It's called Control the zone. And on there, we talk Marys. We talk Seahawks, all that good stuff. For more information, go to patreon.com.
Starting point is 00:24:45 For it slash control the zone link in the description of this episode. So, Colby, if we are trying to think about, you know, trade targets we haven't really talked about much. I think it's finally time we talk about ESOC Paredes. And, you know, there's an obvious reason we haven't talked about ESOC Paredes up to this point. He's an astro. Obviously, like on the on on the surface, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the marries and astros to make a significant major. league trade with one another. They have done it in the past, though,
Starting point is 00:25:16 especially at a time where it didn't make a lot of sense. We all remember that one. But, yeah, Paredes, obviously someone that the Bears have had interest in for quite a while, dating back to his days with Tampa Bay. And there's been some murmurs out there over the last couple weeks about, you know, maybe Paredes is available. Maybe the Astros would trade them. I mean, their farm system is in a really bad spot right now,
Starting point is 00:25:40 especially after they traded their number one and number two guys for Mike Burroughs a couple weeks ago or a week ago, however long ago it was. So maybe they would actually trade Paredes, but when they trade him to the Mariners, who knows? But he's worth talking about here because, again, like he plays third base, Marysney's a third base one.
Starting point is 00:26:02 You can also DF some. He could play a little bit of first base as well. He could maybe stand it. Yeah, he could maybe stand at second. He's actually not bad at second if you if you trust the numbers in a small sample. So so and then obviously, you know, the fit right now on the Astros roster is murky at best, especially after they traded for Carlos Correa at the deadline. Because right now, roster resource actually has Paredes as a bench player for the Astros.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Now, do I think that would actually be the case in 2026? Probably not. I think they would try and find a way to get him into the lineup. But right now, you know, it's, it's, it's, Yordon is either D-Hing or he's playing left field. Then you have Al-Tuvae, probably playing second base, which the Astros have already tried not to do, you know, as recently as this year.
Starting point is 00:26:52 You know, they try to move him to a corner al-field spot. That did not work at all, but he's kind of, he's pretty much a DH type at this point. Yordaum pretty much did only DH, especially after, you know, the injury plague season that he just had. They're probably going to try and keep him emboldened. rap as much as they can. You know, and then you got Christian Walker,
Starting point is 00:27:12 still a good defender and, you know, had some moments offensively this year. A good second half. Yeah. But then, you know, they also have Hazer Sanchez and Cam Smith and Zach Cole who popped in the second half. And, you know, all these guys. And it's just like, there's only so many roster spots.
Starting point is 00:27:28 And obviously Jeremy Payne, he's, he's the shortstop. So, like, Korea, I can't play shortstop for them. So there's only so many spots available here for all these guys that they want to get playing time to. and Paratus right now again, after the arrival of Correa just doesn't make a ton of sense for the current construction of the roster. I would just play Paratus over Korea, frankly. Yeah. And, you know, I covered all this on my substack, Marooned on Mariners yesterday.
Starting point is 00:27:59 I wrote this up. Yeah, always be plugging. So it's one of those things where, like, I went through all this last night. And I think if you're the Astros, like, yeah, you just, okay, well, Paredes will play third a couple times a week. He'll play first a couple times a week. He'll play second and it'll DH once a week. Like, I can get them at bats and sure. I mean, they probably could.
Starting point is 00:28:21 But, you know, like you said, they don't really have an everyday spot for him. They have other holes on their roster. By the way, they are extremely right-handed. They could use a lefty bat. So, again, I wonder, is this a place where Luke Grayley could come into play maybe? a little bit for them. The problem with that is, I mean,
Starting point is 00:28:40 problem. In HACIS is, yeah, like two of their three, or two of their four left-handed bats, actually three of their four out, yeah, or left-handed bats are outfielders.
Starting point is 00:28:50 So, yeah. So again, it's a bit of a clunky fit in that regard, but we talk about like, hey, why haven't we talked about him? Oh,
Starting point is 00:28:56 well, he's the Astros. The Astros won't trade with you. And it's like, well, you know, right now the Cardinals won't trade with you. Like, we can't,
Starting point is 00:29:03 we're just going to eliminate guys just because he plays for the Astros. That doesn't make sense. these two teams have traded with each other. It's been a minute, but they've traded with each other when both were competing at the same time. They have, you know, some trade fit here. The mayors need a third basement. They want a right-handed hitting infielder. The Astros have one to give, and their farm system isn't great.
Starting point is 00:29:29 So, yeah, I mean, there is some natural fit here. Again, at the end of the day, do I think that the Mariners would actually make a trade with the pot or with the Astros? Yes, I think they would if they thought it made their team better. Would the Astros do the same? Yes, I think they would if they thought it made their team better. The tricky part is finding the deal that does that. You get two years of Parades. He's only going to be 27, but you only get him for two years. You're not going to get George Kirby for him. You're not going to trade Bryce Miller or Logan Gilbert for him. He's not worth that. So, you know, at that point, the deal might be dead. But when we're talking about like, like, hey, who are some guys we haven't talked about and why?
Starting point is 00:30:09 Like, there really isn't any more reason to be talking about Brendan Donovan than there is to be talking about East Sok Parada. Parada is probably a better fit than even Donovan because he plays third, because he can play first and because he's a right-handed hitter. So, you know, we've ignored it mostly because he's played on the Astros and we just don't think of them as a, you know, a trade fit. But it could be? Like, it is not any more ridiculous to think, hey, could the Mariners and the Astros make a trade with each other? than it is to be like, oh, well, Hyme Bloom wants Kate Anderson and Laz Montez for Brennan Donovan.
Starting point is 00:30:43 Like, this is the time to talk about ridiculous stuff, to talk about things that, you know, we haven't talked about. And with Divish saying that like, hey, the Mariners are looking at avenues that most people haven't discussed. Well, we haven't discussed Parades once this entire off season, basically because he's been on the Astros
Starting point is 00:31:01 and we've just assumed, yeah, the Astros and the Mariners aren't going to trade with each other. I mean, we pretty much shut ourselves off from the entire. L. West with this discussion because it's like okay the angels make a lot of sense but you know there's the obvious caveat of you know they've never made a trade with the mayor since Jerry took over and then the Rangers like who the hell knows what they're doing right now plus what do the rangers have that is like Josh young like yeah just go with Ben Williamson and keep your prospects and the A is are now kind of getting back into that upswing of being competitive again
Starting point is 00:31:33 And then again, it's also like, who do the rate, who do the angel or the A's have that is actually better than what we have at the spots we need it? There's really not a ton there. So, but we never really consider it the Astros. And I'm not saying there's a ton on the Astros. It makes sense. But Paredes does. Yeah. And there's a price point in terms of like money that is retained by Houston where Christian Walker makes a little bit of sense too.
Starting point is 00:32:00 So it's just one of those things. You can't just shut off the Astros. I don't like the Astros. It doesn't matter. You like the Mariners, don't you? You want the Mariners to be good? You want them to win the World Series? Sometimes you've got to deal with the Astros to make that happen.
Starting point is 00:32:14 By the way, this isn't all that uncommon. The Yankees and the Red Sox made a significant trade just last year, last winter, two winners ago. Other than for Dugo trade? No, well, that one, but also the Carlos Norvias trade. Oh, yeah. You know, I think Dodgers and the Giants made a trade last year. like rivals can trade with each other they'll do it like fans or front offices are not as beholden to the grudges of fans like you think jerry depoto is gonna be like i'm not trained with the astros screw those guys that's not happening if jerry thinks that he can make his team better he'll trade with the astros and the astros will do the same with the mariners the only team that's petty enough not to do something like that is the angels which might explain why the angels are like the dumpster fire dumpster fires in this sport uh pretty
Starting point is 00:33:02 Pras, you know, there's big questions about whether or not his power would play a team mobile park. Legit questions. He doesn't hit the ball hard at all. You know, but he's a dead pole hitter. So, you know, the Marine Lair doesn't have as much effect in the corners. It's really the gaps where the Marine Lair will kill you. Paredes isn't trying to hit the gaps. He's trying to yank everything, you know, off the foul pole, essentially.
Starting point is 00:33:26 And you look at the spray chart of his home runs. They're all in the same place. So, again, I don't know if he's. a great fit for the ballpark because he doesn't hit the ball hard. That's typically a prerequisite for what the Mariners want. But he doesn't chase. He takes a ton of walks. He doesn't strike out.
Starting point is 00:33:41 He hits home runs. He's an above average defender. So even if he's only a 20 home arrive for you at Team Mobile Park, he's still pretty significant upgrade over what you'd be rolling out, you know, with Ben Williamson and Colt Emerson, although Colt does have an opportunity to surprise you, at which point you can just make Paredes your full-time DH. Look at that. And that's the same idea.
Starting point is 00:34:02 But, you know, that they have with, like, Gino Suarez, right? Or Okamoto, you know, whatever. So, yeah, so that all makes sense. It's just a different player for similar role. If Paredes was on, you know, the Orioles or whatever, we would have talked about it right now. Yeah, we probably would have been talking about them a lot, honestly. So, you know, that's on us for missing that. but I think you can understand why.
