Jorge Polanco is expected to sign before the end of the winter meetings,
but will it be back with the Mariners?
We'll discuss coming up here on the Locked on Mariner's podcast.
Colby, hit it.
You are Locked-on Mariners, your daily Seattle Mariner's podcast,
part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Ahoy, Sailors, it is Tuesday, December night 2025.
five, you're listening to the Lockdown Marriss podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network.
Now, the number one sports podcast network.
My name is Tiding Gazzalas, and I'm joined as always by my co-coe, Colby Pattonode.
We're two lifelong Marys fans who've been covering the team for over half a decade.
And today, we're going to push back Top Five Tuesday, so we can talk a little bit about what's come out of the winter meeting.
So far, we've got an update on Jorge Polanco, more reports about the Mariners and Cotel Marte.
The mayors are also looking for even more bullpen help after landing Jose Ferrer this past weekend.
so we'll talk about all that and I guess I'll indulge Colby on this Padre stuff as well
but before we before we do all that Calamezzo on yeah I want to shout out our title sponsor
today Fanduel if you want to be right in the middle of the action this season visit fanduel.com
and place your NFL live bets all season long and and also on top five Tuesday
I think the plan right now is for it to be tomorrow but winter meetings are going on tomorrow's the
all day of the winter meeting.
So stuff could happen.
Maris might make a Rule 5 selection tomorrow,
though I think we're probably recording before that.
I don't know.
We'll see.
But we reserve the right to push it back even further
to talk about more winter meeting stuff.
Yes.
And keep in mind, today is the big day.
Tomorrow, everybody leaves.
It's pretty much just the Rule 5 draft.
If you guys want some good Rule 5 content,
you want to get geared up for that.
TJ stats is a great article.
That's where I learned about the catchers that are available,
not just Susack.
We'll go check that out.
And also our good buddy, Aram, just posted a little article about some Rule 5 guys.
And I haven't read it yet, but I'm sure it's fantastic because he is.
So you guys are tiered up for some Rule 5 madness.
Check those out.
Yeah, so check that out over.
But, yeah.
Yeah, you can check that out over on Just Baseball.
Shout out to Aram.
So let's start here with Polo Colby.
So it was reported yesterday by Jesse Rogers of ESPN that Polanco is expected to sign.
before the end of the winter meeting.
So maybe today, right?
You talked about it.
Like, this is kind of the big day.
So maybe we'll be doing another episode tonight.
Who knows?
That'd be great.
But right now it kind of seems like the Mariners and Polanco are a little far apart on, you know,
where the mariners are kind of standing right now and what Polanco and his agent are asking for.
Adam Jude and Ryan Divich of the Seattle Times, they're down there at the winter meetings in Orlando.
They reported last night that Polanco's agent, Ulysses Cabrera, who's also Julio's agent,
I think that's important to note here, is trying to get Polo three guaranteed years,
maybe even a fourth year.
And the Mariners are pretty firm on giving him about two years with a vesting or mutual option
for a third year.
Polo is also looking for, quote, more than $12 million.
What does that actually mean?
Is that $12.5 million?
is that 13 million who knows but he's looking for about more than 12 million dollars a year
for about three guaranteed years maybe four guaranteed years or at least you know an option for
a fourth year and it just doesn't seem like the mayors are comfortable doing that so there's
been some talk about the pivoting and all that maybe we'll get into that a little later on but colby
if it comes down to it would you bite the bullet and just give polo the third guaranteed
I don't think so I wouldn't be like upset if they did
but you have to remember about Polo is that we can easily look at this and say like well
2024 is the outlier and it is I mean you look at the career of Polanco
2024 really stands out as a year where like he just fell apart nothing worked it
it happens and every other year he's been very good including last
year. But you also have to look at it, like this guy's in his early, creeping up to his mid-30s.
He's missed a lot of time over the last five, six years, all with lower leg injuries.
We know that he doesn't really provide any defensive value, so he's really all on the bat.
And I have some concerns. You know, he's not a big bat speed guy either.
So, you know, there are some troubling or there are some concerns about how he might age.
And again, when you sack up all the injuries that he's endured, it's more and more on top.
of the pile of like, man, you're really risking it with three guaranteed years. Four is out of the
question. I wouldn't even give them a fourth year option. Like, that's not happening. Uh, I think when we
talked about this throughout our offseason plan, both on the Patreon show and here on locked on,
that anytime we've talked about polo, we've been pretty clear that it's like it's two years,
maybe an option. And I think we were pretty close on the AAV. The article mentions that, uh,
you know, the agent is looking for more than $12 million a year. Is that 12.1? Is that
18. I don't know.
But I think we were right in that ballpark
between, you know, I think we were at what, 15
million AAB after buyoff
and all that. Like, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it was basically
2 and 30 guaranteed for him.
Right. And, but like
2 million of that was a buyout. So it was 14 million
AAV. I feel like what we
came up with, what we proposed,
that's pretty much as comfortable as I'm
going.
There are some, you know, concerning
trends with Pallon.
and I'm not so much concerned about the production that he'll give you over the next two or three years,
but I am concerned about how often he'll be on the field and, you know, those nagging injuries might ultimately end up impacting his performance, especially in year three.
So I, again, I wouldn't be mad if they gave him the third guaranteed year, but I think I'm holding pretty firm at two and an option, mostly because I don't think anybody else is going to be willing to give him four.
Yeah.
so I think I'm holding firm with and I don't know what the mariner's offer is you know I think it's two and in an option and then well that's that's what was essentially reported was that they have an offer that's about two years plus an option and I'm pretty sure that's from the mariner's now the pirates keep on striking out but they keep on telling people how much money they offered these players and it turns out they weren't even close on either of the players so well and it doesn't seem like and it doesn't seem like Polanco is just
desperate enough to get as much money as possible that he would actually go to Pittsburgh.
It was reported this morning by Ken Rosenthal on the athletic towards the end of his
Winter Medians Notes article that he put out this morning that Polanco, according to sources
close to him, prefers comfort and winning, which we already knew.
We've talked about this, but that being reiterated on a national scale.
And so it doesn't seem like he's just going to jump at the.
the best offer.
We also have heard that, you know, the Yankees and the Red Sox have shown interest,
but also those teams kind of seem like they have bigger fish to fry right now.
So like the Red Sox are, you know, meeting with Pete Alonzo this week, I think.
And that would also impact their interest.
And also the Petalonsor thing would theoretically impact their interests in Polanco as well.
so Yankees more focused on Bellinger
not Al Tucker which okay
because Bellinger is a better fit you see
It's also it's also weird that they're interested in
Bellinger not Tucker blah blah blah after Cashman was like
We're too left handed the other day so I don't know
So whatever
I don't know that Polo would
Something about Polanco in New York
Or Boston doesn't really
seem like his type of, you know, a scene, but who knows?
We know Polo really does value, like, you know, feeling comfortable and all that, which
is why, you know, pretty decent part of the reason why he came back to Seattle, even after
the bad year he had, and why, you know, decent part of the reason why he struggled going
from Minnesota to Seattle.
He's very comfortable.
He wants to be comfortable where he's going to work every day, and there's an adjustment
period there, and does Polo want to take that shot?
If he's only going to get a two-year contract, probably not.
so the polo thing is interesting again all indications seem to point to him signing today or tomorrow
yeah now we don't know that for sure it's mostly just speculation but the fact that we think
he's pretty close to signing and that the agent is out here publicly stating these are this is what
he wants come give it to me kind of makes me seem like they're circling they understand what
their options are they feel like they know who the best offer is and this is
the last kind of ditch before we, we, you know, re-sign with Seattle, we're going to put it out there
and see if anybody wants to jump Seattle's offer. And maybe they do again. I just, I would, there's,
I would say there's a zero percent chance the Mariners are going for a fourth year. I would say
the odds that they give them a third year option, 35, 40 percent. I think ultimately it's two years
is what the Mariners offers. I think there will be an option. I think there will be an option.
yeah um but i think i think it'll i think it'll i think it'll be an advantageous option for the mariner
so yeah oh yeah so it's like a vesting option where like you know he has to crush it in order
for it to vest yeah right he has to play high yes he has to play like 260 combined games
over the two years and or he's got to have like 1100 played appearances over the two years or
something like that.
Or, you know, one thing that might be impacting Polo's market and why we're kind
of seeing this, what typically is seen as an act of desperation from the agent to publicly
leak, you know, how much money you're looking for and all that.
Maybe part of the reason why we're seeing that is because the Mariners might be making
headway on a different player to replace Horace Polanco.
So keep that in mind as well.
but, you know, I still think ultimately, like, I have to put down some cash on the outcome of this.
I think I would put it down on polo returning to the Mariners.
And that's the, that's the, not add, but it's like the big move the Mariners make for their lineup as they retain Jorge Polanco.
That would still be my bet as you sit right now.
We'll talk about Cotel Marte in just a moment.

All right.
So the Cattel Marte stuff, still going, Colby.
There's been, you know, little reports here and there that, you know, the, the
marries are a team to watch.
The mayors have talked to the Diamondbacks about Marte.
Even Adam Jude and Ryan Divich have reported this.
That's happened.
So it's happened.
The mayors have talked to you, Cetal, they have talked.
to the Arizona Diamondbacks about Catel Marte.
To what degree?
Who knows?
Who knows? Yeah.
But it has been reported that the cost, right now the ask from the Diamondbacks is high.
And they would like some starting pitching help.
And as we've talked about in the past,
the Mariners don't really have that to offer in terms of guys that are like on the doorstep,
could pitch in a major league rotation tomorrow.
that would actually like, you know, because there's Logan Evans and Emerson, Hancock, but
that's not who we're talking about here.
Kate Anderson was further along, then sure.
If Ryan Sloan was further along the shore, Gerangelo's danger was further along the shore,
but those guys might be too far off, even though they still like at least two of those three
might make their debut in 2026.
They still might be too far off for the Diamondbacks liking, which I don't know why they
would care about that because they're not going to be competitive in 2026,
especially if they trade Coutal Marte, but whatever.
So that complicates things.
And if that is something that the Diamondbacks are going to be firm on,
I have doubts the Marriers are probably going to be able to get that done.
Unless they get creative.
We get a third team involved.
Ty, you seem to you for forgetting one incy bincey tiny little bitty,
detail. Luis Castillo is out there. Boom.
Luis Castor starting pitcher. Major League Ready starting pitching. I think so. Right there. Boom.
Yeah. But yeah, you know, it's, this is kind of weird in terms of like how it's being reported because nobody's saying the Mariners are like aggressive or that they're exchanging names or that they're deep and taught.
like there's none of this like there's no real smoke that like they're actually trying to get something done
but you can't find mention of catel martay without the mariners being one of the teams listed as interested or
whatnot and you know just in in one you know 12-ish hour period we had haman and then we had morosi
and then we had jude and and divish all say like yeah the mariner and to varying degrees right it was just
well the mariners are a fit and then morosi said the mariners are a team
watch or whatever. And then Adam Jude and Ryan James said the Mariners are doing some work on
this, you know, blah, blah, blah. And it's just kind of, they would, uh, what, what was the quote
that they used from someone from the mayor said that they're not opposed to doing something big
at the winter meeting. And that's what led to the article. Um, right. You know, and led to them
talking about Catele Marte. So, right. Something big might not mean Cotel Marte.
Fernando Tatsis Jr. boom. But, uh,
You know, it's one of those things where it's like, there's just a lot of, like, smoke around this idea.
And it's, again, typically when there's smoke, there's fire.
And remember, by the way, not just from the Mariners side of things, when you look at the Diamondback side of things, they went from we're not interested in trading Catel Marte to like, well, I mean, we'll listen on anybody.
But we're not making calls to like, you know, we'd really like to get some Major League starting pitching for Catel Marte.
So the Diamondbacks very clearly are looking to trade Catel Marte.
Marte. So, you know, they're trending towards trading Marte, which I think we knew was was a real possibility a few weeks ago. It's just the Diamondbacks have slow played it. And think about how the Diamondbacks did this with, you know, Gino Suarez and Josh Naylor. Well, we want a top 100 prospect. Well, we want somebody major league ready. Well, we want the, and then all of a sudden it turns out, it's like, oh, it only costs a couple relief prospects and Tyler Locklear to get both of these guys. Hmm. So this is kind of a Diamondbacks pattern too, right? They set the bar very high.
And then eventually they slowly whittle their way down until they get the best offer they think they can get.
And then they'll make a move like this.
Now, Morte's a little different because he's not a rental.
But all indications are they clearly want to trade.
And like this is not how you act if you're not interested in training.
And while he's not a rental, they are kind of running up against a deadline.
Because once his 10 and 5 rights kick in at the start of the season, now it becomes even harder for them to trade.
Well, in theory, it becomes even harder for them to trade.
could tell. Now, it's possible that
even with a full no trade clause,
Cattel's like, yeah, I just
want to get the hell out of Arizona.
So wherever you're willing to trade me to, I'll just take
it. But
he could also just make life hard
on the diamondbacks if he
feels like it.
Yeah. Again, the Marte
thing is very weird because there are a lot
of like,
like in isolated incidents, we wouldn't
think too much of this.
Yeah. In terms of like the Mariners being linked
to Marte. But they just kind of keep stacking on top of each other. And it just feels like this is
either something that's being fed either from the Mariners or the Diamondbacks. Now, both teams have
reasons to, you know, push this narrative along. Obviously, the Mariners, one of the teams that could
absolutely afford Catel Marte, if they so choose. So that would help the Diamondbacks in theory. And
obviously the Mariners really, they have polo that they're trying to get done. And they want to put
pressure on him in his camp to sign a deal. So they,
They could leak that, hey, we're doing this with Catelle Marte.
Maybe that's what it is.
Maybe ultimately just pulled with these.
Guess what?
Catel Marte, second baseman slash DH who's a switch hitter, like very similar profile.
Right.
So it's one of those things where it's like this very easily could just be two teams benefiting
from this idea that they're working together to maybe trade this star player.
And so they're not going to come out and squash it, right?
There's no reason for them to step on it because it's benefiting them, both of them at the same time.
That could just be what this is.
Like, don't get me wrong.
But there's just a lot of smoke around the idea here.
And I think it's possible.
I think it's highly unlikely.
Like if I had to guess where Marte is going to go,
I think ultimately he's going to end up somewhere like Boston,
just because they have toli, they have early.
They have the young pitching that the Diamondbacks apparently want.
Those guys are just half a year to a full year ahead of where Anderson and Sanja are right now.
So, you know, is it possible?
Could the Mariners maybe trade Bryce Miller in this deal and something else?
Maybe, but then again, they have to go out and replace those guys.
We talk about this all the time.
And that's going to be tough to do.
So ultimately, I think Boston should probably be considered the favorite for Marte,
but if Boston has their heart set on, you know, Pete Alonzo,
and that's going to take a while, you just kind of start to run out of teams.
And Toronto, maybe Toronto, but.
What are they going to trade you Savage?
Is Ricky Tideman really the guy that they're going to build a package around for,
like you just kind of start to run out of these teams pretty quick.
And Seattle has the means.
They have the opportunity.
They're in their window.
It's just do they have the specific package that the Diamondbacks are looking for?
And as it's being reported right now, I don't think they quite do.
I think it's close, but I don't think they do.
And maybe they get there by overpaying on the back end a little bit,
or maybe they get there because Arizona is just like.
look ultimately we want the highest upside starting pitching we can get so we'll take a guy who's
three months behind like i don't know maybe the diamond backs really like sanger probably not but
maybe they do you know and you know keep in mind the mariners and the diamondbacks very
familiar with each other and their valuations of players so um i don't think this is a type of deal
that would need you know six weeks of negotiation to get done i think if the mariners really
decided that yes we're interested in this they would know within the matter of a week or two
whether or not they had any shot of getting Marte done so we'll see but uh it is enough
you know there are enough whispers there is enough smoke that it's impossible to ignore
they can tell Marte idea whether you like it or not so i don't think the off the field stuff is
that big of a deal i'll preface by saying that personally i don't have really any sort of issue with
it and i don't really see it as much of a red flag but it continues to be reported any
Any article that gets put out right now about Coutel Marte includes multiple paragraphs detailing, you know, what happened this summer.
Diamondbacks, you know, some Diamondbacks players were upset with him because he just kind of went away for a few days after his home was burglarized, which...
She's like a normal response to me, but okay.
Yeah.
Is that actually going to be a real hangup for them?
I don't think it should be, but it's possible that it could be for them.
um and obviously you know clubhouse fit and all that that's a big part of player acquisition
for the mares they have really really taken that into account especially over the last couple
of years after they've been burned by guys like jesse winker and and what have you so um they've made
exceptions like don't get me wrong they have made exceptions of the past i think this is another
thing because i just i really don't think it's that big of a deal uh that they should you know make an
exception for but um i do wonder if maybe that causes a hang up here for the marries as well and they're
just and that leads to you know it wouldn't be the main reason but it would just be another you know
we don't want to add this contract we don't want to pay the prospect capital on top of adding the
contract this is one of those things where you just kind of have to trust the mariner's judgment on
this yeah because we just don't have nearly as much info or insight into that as as they would so
we'll see if anything happens again ultimately i think polo is is brought back and i think
marty is probably traded somewhere else probably in the american league um just because the
mariners well i think they could put together a very competitive package and arguably the best
package that anybody will give for marty if the diamondbacks are dead set on getting young major
league ready or in the major league starting pitching the mariners are just about you know in
July, this might be a different story.
Yeah. But right now, they're just not
quite there yet. All right.
Coming up, I'm going to indulge
Colby about this Padre's stuff.
And then we're going to talk about some relievers
in just a moment. But first a reminder

so again according to adam jude and ryan divish the mariners are not opposed to doing quote unquote something big at the winter meetings and it was reported last night that the padres are potentially working on a deal that would rival the juan soto deal that landed them what four major leaguers michael king johnny brittow randy vassquez i believe and kyle gashioca as well as true thorpe
yeah and they flipped thorpe and overseas did they yeah uh so there you go so you put out a tweet that
we were going to talk about this so i mean you know we owe it to the people to actually follow
through on that even though i did not approve of that joan calamezzo yeah all right this is this is your
segment so you you know spew your your conspiracy theories are the mariners getting ready to
trade George Kirby and Randy Rosa Rana?
I say yes, so it's true.
Sticker of approval.
Boom.
Joan Calamezzo.
No, it's, look, are the Mariners going to trade for Fernando Tatis Jr.?
No.
No.
Should they?
Yeah, you know, yeah, yeah, probably.
What's really fun about this is, you know, A, first of all,
Mariners and the Padres making a big trade together, that never happens.
So you could just cross it off right there.
Now, to be fair, it hasn't happened for a while.
Well, I mean, after Depoto destroyed Preller, back in the 2020, like, yeah.
Preller finally wise it up.
Yeah.
But yeah, I mean, you start to look at it and you go, okay, well, what player could
rival such an acquisition?
And it's, you would think it's Tatis Jr.
Since he's making money and we know the Padres want to, you know, shed both, you know,
short-term and long-term salary off their books.
But then this morning, you have Mark Feinstein say that this big player could end up being Jackson Merrill, which, I mean, holy smokes, that'd be stupid, but also incredible content.
So, but, you know, you kind of look at it, you want to have some fun.
Like, okay, if they're trying to get like the Juan Soto package, essentially the Padres are trying to move long-term salary off of their books.
but maintain the ability to compete in the National League West.
So that's what the Juan Soto thing was, right?
They got Michael King.
They got two years of Michael King.
They got, well, it was up to three years of Fagashioka,
but he's a backup catcher, so whatever.
It was Drew Thorpe, who at the time was top 70-ish prospect,
50 to 70, somewhere in that range.
And then a couple relievers that had some starting experience.
And so, like, they were able to fill out their roster with major league talent in this trade.
And then obviously they flipped Thorpe as part of the Dillon C's trade, blah, blah, blah.
So looking for major leaguers and they're looking for prospects close to the major leagues.
Does Seattle have that?
Yes.
Is it smart of them to trade it for one player?
Probably not.
But what if that one player is for Nassies Jr.?
I mean, Fernando Tatte's Jr. is really good.
Yeah.
So I don't know.
But the fun thing here is to try and build your own Juan Soto trade package,
specifically the one where they traded away Juan Soto,
not the one where they, you know, acquired Juan Soto.
Because it seems very clear that the Padres want major league talent.
Now, again, this is just one report,
but it is, I believe, originated from Dennis Lynn,
who is like the Ryan.
Devish of the Padres.
So it's a very reliable source there.
Is it likely going to happen?
I don't know.
Probably not.
But is Preller afraid to make big moves?
Is Preller afraid to, you know, make moves that people don't like and people question
whether or not they're smart?
No, Preller is the most aggressive GM in baseball.
I mean, will it happen?
I think it actually will.
It's just.
Will it, will it be with the Mariners?
Absolutely not.
I don't know.
I don't know.
George Kirby and Randy Rosarena for Fernando Tatis Jr.
I am likelyer to start my own team from scratch, become the 31st Major League Baseball team, and acquire Fernando Tatis Jr. than the Seattle Marrars are.
And if the Mariners acquire Fernando Tatis Jr., are you getting the jersey tatted on your back?
Sure.
So, yeah, I'm just saying, you know, could you get, could you do Randy Roserana, George,
Herbie, Bizarro, and, like, Sanja for Tatis and, I don't know.
Who's somebody else making money on that team?
Like Tatis and Poveda, you know, I love Nick Paveta.
This has really been a long con for me to get Nick Favita.
That's the real prize for that.
That's really what this is.
That's the real prize is Nick Pfeita.
But, yeah, I mean, Ty, let me ask you this.
Like, forget, will it happen?
would you rather trade for
Jackson Merrill or Fernando Tatis Jr?
Tatis.
I don't know.
Merrill signed an extension, right?
Like,
I don't know.
I think so.
I'm pretty sure he signed like a team-friendly
extension, but maybe not.
So if you trade it for Jackson,
Merrill, I would move them back to the infield.
Honestly,
I just going to sound crazy.
I'd probably put him in center or move
Julio to right or left.
Julio's better than Merrill.
Well, I know.
That's not what it's about, though.
It's about keeping Julio as healthy as possible.
And obviously, center field is much more physically taxing
than right field or left field.
But, yeah, anyways, the Padres might be big game hunting.
It's certainly, you know, a fun conversation to have.
Is Tatis Jr. or Jackson Merrill likely to be Mariners?
Of course not.
They're most likely to be Padres.
raise next year by a mile.
But Preller is crazy enough to do these things.
We know he is.
He traded all those prospects for a year and a half of Soto.
And then he flipped Soto and he got, you know, Michael King and he completely rebuilt his
rotation out of that trade.
And, you know, he is aggressive.
He traded one of the best prospects in baseball for a reliever.
I mean, it's one of those things where Preller will be aggressive.
He will make moves like this.
And the Padres are kind of in a situation where they're desperate enough to make moves like this because they know that they're in trouble financially.
But they're also not going to just wave the white flag and, you know, trade these guys for prospects.
They want major league talents.
So this is all, you know, circling up to be something big.
And I just hope, you know, if you're trading for Nanotatis Jr., that ends up being what they're doing.
I hope it's not to the Blue Jays or the Red Sox or the Rangers or something like that.
like yeah the rangers you know throw jack lighter out there maybe evan carter or
wyatt linkford i mean oof it gets get dicey real fast but yeah yeah it's fun to speculate let us
know what your uh you know one soto esk trade package would be for fernando tatteche's junior
and just so you guys know logan evans he ain't doing nothing in this trade uh i mean as like
a fourth piece sure um maybe a fifth piece so thank you
for wasting what eight minutes of
my life in our listeners lives
first of all. Let's talk about something
more real
did you love that? Let us know
in the comments below. Did you love that?
When you see the number of Fernando Tatis
Jr. fan fiction Friday trades we get
we'll see who's laughing.
Yeah, that's what I'm scared of
actually. That's what
I was worried about.
You could have engaged more and given the people more answers, but you
decided to just be
Mr. Negative Nelly.
Moving on.
on. Jerry DePoto talked about relievers last night at the winter meetings.
The mayors are still looking to add more bullpen help even after adding Jose Ferrer,
which was to be expected. Justin Hollander at the start of the off season said that
they would like to add two bullpen arms, one of them being a lefty.
Well, there you go. They checked off that box with Ferrer.
Jerry specifically mentioned veteran free agents.
So what price point?
Does that potentially land in?
Who knows?
Maybe that's something we'll explore a little bit more whenever I do my top five Tuesday because I did land on reliever targets.
So I'd talk about that a little bit more.
But where would you like to see them go, especially if it's a free agent, veteran reliever?
Yeah, you know, it's pretty interesting.
The article pretty much exclusively made it sound like they're shopping in free agency for the second reliever.
they're not really looking at the trade market now obviously we know they will and they probably
have been as well but yeah it did seem to be a heavy um indication that the second reliever
is probably going to come out of free agency and i think we kind of know what what tier they're
shopping at because we know that you know phil mayton was a player that they went after and he was
in the seven eight million dollar bucket so they're certainly not going to i mean obviously ds
signed this morning for 23 million a year that's they were never going to shop there uh i kind of doubt
they're shopping in the 15 the you know 12 to 15 million dollar bucket which i think would be the
pete fairbanks uh you know that type of realm uh maybe luke weaver is in that area as well i
kind of doubt they'd be shopping there so i think it's the tier below that i think it is the
sean armstrongs i do think it is you know it is the phil mayton types so um i think
Tyler Rogers is probably going to be a little too expensive, or is it Taylor? I always get them
mixed up. It's Tyler. Taylor's the lefty. The lefty. Yeah. So I think he's probably going to be
a little too expensive. He might get a third year and I kind of doubt the Mariners are going to go three
years on any reliever. So I think that probably eliminates Fairbanks as well, though. Maybe not.
You know, again, the, the raise are very good and they just decided not to even try to trade
Fairbanks at one year in 11 million. So maybe they know the value of Fairbanks better than we do. But
um yeah i think it's not going to be the fairbanks weaver group i think it's going to be the group below
that uh and i think the the clue there is that phil mayton was one of their targets and he got
you know two years at about 15 million dollars so yeah so maybe like they're willing to go into like
the seven million per range i think so and a half million per take because again they're willing
to go a bit more because ferreira's cheap yeah they didn't spend any money on ferre right you know they
they checked off one of their biggest items on their to-do list without spending any money to do it.
So, yeah, um, and, you know, if they, and let's say that they, um, you know, they lose out on Polanco
and they end up peving in into someone like Brennan Donovan, who's only projected to make like
$5.4 million. Like, they could legit, like go spend some money on a reliever if they wanted to.
So, yeah, like obviously that, you know, N1D is just signed. So obviously they're not going to do that.
or anything like that like they're not going to go after robert sworez don't get me wrong but maybe
maybe they would be willing to pay like 10 plus mill for a couple years of Tyler rogers or
pfairbanks i think a weaver is the interesting guy to watch here yeah they love him
i think they do and not again i'm sure we'll get more in the weeds on names
tomorrow unless the mariners do something that necessitates us pushing you know and by the
remember guys no episode on thursday um yeah but weaver's interested because he kind of
throws straight over the top which is unique from this bullpen and he is forcing change up
as his two primary pitches which is very unique from the rest of this bullpen uh is wever you know
going to get he didn't have as good a year in 25 as he did in 24 still pretty good is he going
to get three years at 12 to 15 million well you're probably out but is it possible he's you know
drops down into the
two and 18 to 20 range.
Yeah, I think it's probably possible.
And at that point,
are the Mariners interested
since they just, you know,
didn't have to spend money
to get their other bullpen arm?
Maybe, maybe.
And also the kind of thing
that was lingering out there
at the beginning of the winter
is, you know,
our team's interested in Weaver
converting to the rotation again.
And we haven't really heard
any updates on that.
So maybe it's just a no-go-from.
But I think Weaver is kind of the X factor there,
just kind of floating around out there.
Yeah.
Behind him,
though like Sean Armstrong
you know guys that might land more
in that filled maton range you know
maybe Finn again
is Finnegan healthy
yeah yeah I mean he was
he was healthy in the DS
I don't know if anything happened during the
DS but
yeah Finnigan
yeah
Finn again Armstrong
I think it's I think it's
that range
yeah and you know again
like with someone like Armstrong or Weaver
the mares have had them before so you know that they at least like them to a certain degree i think
they'd love lukeweaver i think they're they probably kick themselves over letting him go as early as they
did and you know watching him do what he wound up doing in in new york so yeah but uh so yeah
keep an eye on those guys but uh yeah it's possible they they still might make a pretty significant
ads of the bullpen which would be great like if they have six legit dudes
you know in and their bullpen you know varying from dude to dog to to daddy even uh that would be
great yeah i mean the mariners probably think they already have like five daddies so i don't know
they're looking at a six but i'm telling you they really only have one or two sure so someone
i think it was claire in our comments the other day said uh they need a you know a dude to dog to daddy
like ratio explained
post taste. Yeah, somebody
had mentioned that scale on our Patreon
which is why we're using it. Yeah. I could
do that. Munoz is a daddy.
I would say
Bizarro is a dog.
Yeah. D-A-W-G.
Vargas is a dude. Vargis is a dude like
capital D dude?
Maybe a capital
you, dude.
An umlaught dude?
Sure.
maybe maybe i you know i think munios and and brash or daddies like spire is right on the verge of
becoming a daddy but i'll still go spires spires and daddy no spires okay that's fine i'm not objecting to that
uh i think bizardo if he does what he did this year next year he's definitely uh going to be
promoted to daddy uh but right now i'd say he's a dog uh for rare
I think Ferrer is a dog.
I think he's a dog.
There's daddy upside there, but I think he's a dog.
But I think he's like closer to dude, capital D dude, than daddy right now.
But that can flip pretty quick.
The stuff is definitely there to jump up a level.
And then who else is in this?
But like, yeah, I think Vargas is a dude.
Hancock is lowercase everything.
Dude.
Caleb Ferguson's not here.
more otherwise he'd be a dude like yeah the you guys get like yeah the the daddy is who you want
to come in and clean up the mess the dog is somebody you just you trust and he's going to
battle through he's going to throw up a zero and the dude is just kind of there you know
eat up some innings not let things get too far out of hand Trent thornton was mostly a dude
capital d dude though yeah so yeah even in our little scale there's capital d dude and there's
lowercase d dude uh so yeah all right well that is going to do it for our show thank you so much
