This is Locked-on Mariners, part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Here's your host, D.C. Lundberg.
Yes, indeed, the Kyle Connection getting it done once again, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome to Locked-on Mariners.

scoring at home. Whenever I do the
Twitter plug, when I say, follow
this show on Twitter, my first instinct is to say
D.C. Lundberg, that's not
the show's Twitter page. In any
case, Mariners do get it done against the
Angels on Wednesday
night, August 5th. Game
just concluded as of this
recording, ladies and gentlemen.
And the Angels, well, let's talk
about Marco Gonzalez first, because he actually
pitched pretty well. He went
seven innings, and he gave up three hits.
Unfortunately, they were all
solo home runs. However, no walks. No walks at all. And since those were the only three hits he gave up,
they were solo home runs. Solo home runs spread out over the course of a game. Really not going to hurt
you too badly. No walks. And again, he did strike out seven batters. A very good start for Marco
Gonzalez. Kyle Seeger also hit a landmark in this game. We'll get to that in just a little bit.
Scoring recap for you. On the way, like I said, Angels got things going in the third inning on a solo home run.
by Max Stacey or Stacey or Stossy.
I'm not exactly sure what it is.
St.A.S.S.I.
In any case, he has three home runs on the season.
They're all against the Mariners.
So there you go.
Angels like to hit against...
There are certain angels that like to hit against the Mariners.
We'll bring up one of those later, obviously.
And to the bottom of the third inning,
where Malick Smith began with a strikeout,
J.P. Crawford singles, and Dylan Moore singles.
Kyle Lewis flies out for the second out.
and then they pull
Julio Tehran. They bring
in Ryan Bookter or Buckter
B-C-H-T-E-R
and the very first batter he
faces is the aforementioned
Young again Kyle Seeger
and with Crawford and
more aboard he parks
a home run which just
happened to be ladies and gentlemen
his 200th
career home run
congratulations to
he's not Corey's brother
tonight since this is a huge
milestone. He is the elder Seeger brother, Mr. Kyle Seeger, and we will talk more about the other
half of the Kyle connection coming up a little bit later in the first half of the program.
Austin Nola doubled, Vogelback walked, but then Evan White struck out to end the inning.
Mariners would pick up one more run in the fifth inning. Dylan Moore led off with a double,
and then Kyle Lewis singled him in. Kyle Lewis would then steal second base. Mariner's
stole three bases in this game late.
ladies and gentlemen, they are being very aggressive on the base paths,
which I personally like to see.
With the score now four to one,
the Angels would come right back in the sixth inning.
David Fletcher would Homer for the second consecutive game,
almost to the exact same spot in which he homered last night.
And then the very next batter,
that man, Mike Trout,
hits a home run to center field to bring the Angels to within one run.
However, that's all they would score that inning.
And the Fletcher home run, the Trout home run, the Stasi home run,
those are the three hits and runs that Marco Gonzalez would give up.
We're going to move on to the bottom of the seventh inning with that four to three score.
Noe Ramirez now pitching.
Crawford begins with a ground out.
Dylan Moore strikes out.
Then the Kyle Connection does its thing.
First part of said Kyle connection, Mr. Lewis, singles to center field.
Then the second part of the Kyle connection, Mr. Seek.
offers a single of his own advancing Lewis to third.
Then Kyle Seeger stole second base.
You know, like I said, he's young again, he's rejuvenated, he's swinging the bat well,
he's way more mobile than he used to be.
Austin Nola then doubles in both Seeger and Lewis,
bringing in both halves of the Kyle Connection to bring the score to 6-3 Mariners.
Then we have an intentional walk to Daniel Vogelbach.
Mike Mayors replaces Noe Ramirez on the mound,
and then Evan White hits a ground rule double to score Austin Nola.
Shed Long would then pop out to end the inning.
Then the eighth inning happened.
This is Taylor Williams' inning, by the way.
It begins with a Joe Adele single and a Max Stassie hit by pitch.
Luis Renhifo strikes out, and David Fletcher pops out.
All right, looks like he's going to get out of it.
Then with a two-two count, Mike Traceau.
Trout takes a ball right at the top of the strike zone.
Looks like it grazed the top of the strike zone.
Home plate umpire felt otherwise,
called it a ball to bring it to a full count.
And Trout kind of had a grin on his face.
He knows he got away with one.
And guess what happened on the very next pitch, ladies and gentlemen?
No prizes for guessing that Trout hit a bomb to left field,
which wound up in the left field bleachers.
and it takes quite a
hit to be able to do that.
That brought the Angels back to within one run
to a 7 to 6 score in the Mariners advantage.
Rendon would be hit by a pitch.
Lestella would hit for Justin Upton,
but he would line out.
And the Mariners would then bring in
Carl Edwards Jr.
Or Carl's Jr., of course,
as I like to call him, to pitch the ninth inning,
and he had to deal with future
Hall of Famer Albert Pujols,
Taylor Ward,
and one of the best prospects in Major League Baseball, Joe Adele.
He gets pool host to ground out.
Brian Goodwin would pinch hit for Taylor Ward.
Taylor Ward's not the Lockdown Angels host, by the way, I want to point that out.
And my gosh, did Brian Goodwin have a great series against the Mariners in Los Angeles the other week.
However, he's struck out here on a foul tip, which brings up Joe Adele,
and he also struck out swinging.
So the famous star gets the job done.
closes up shop, time to count the tills and head home with a 7-6 Mariners victory,
which was a pretty good game.
It's nice to see the Mariners win a game in which the opposition doesn't score two or three
runs or something like that.
Angels kept the pressure on the Mariners most of the game.
Mariners still came away with a victory.
Very good to see.
That will bring us to today's Mariners trivia question, ladies and gentlemen.
and today it is this.
We'll show some love to the Mariners' third baseman,
as like I said he did hit his 200th career
Big League home run today.
How many of those home runs have come
in Safeco Field slash bleep cell phone company park?
Answer following this from Rock Auto.
With the ever-increasing numbers of makes and models,
it's impossible these days to stock all the parts you need
in a traditional chain storefront.
Why ender often pointless or seemingly indecutive,
intimidating questioning while waiting for the counterman to order the parts on his computer,
and you know he's only going to choose the brand that his warehouse carries.
Gang, you've got computers with access to rockado.com at home and right in your very own pocket.
Why would you choose to spend 30%, 50%, 100% more for the exact same auto parts at a chain store or dealership?
Chain stores have different price tiers for professional mechanics and do it yourselfers.
Rockato.com's prices on the other hand,
They're the same for everybody, and they're reliably low.
Rock Auto.com is a family business gang,
serving auto parts customers online for 20 years.
Go to rockato.com to shop for auto and body parts from hundreds of manufacturers.
Whether it's for your daily driver or for your classic,
get everything you need in a few easy clicks, deliver directly to your door.
It could not be easier.
The rockato.com catalog is unique and remarkably easy to navigate.
Quickly see all the parts available for your vehicle
and choose the brands, specifications, and prices that you prefer.
Why spend up to twice as much money for the same parts?
There is absolutely no reason to do that, gang.
So go to rockado.com right now and see all the parts available for your car, truck, van, SUV,
crossover, pogo stick, whatever you drive.
Right, locked on in there, how did you hear about us, box, so they know that we sent you.
Amazing selection, reliably low prices, all the parts your car will ever need.
dot com.
The trivia question gang, how many
of Kyle Seeger's 200 career home runs
have come at home?
Only 78 of them.
He has 122 road
home runs and 78
home runs. As a matter of fact, his career
batting average in
Safeco field, whatever you want to call it,
is 247
coming into today.
And his away batting average coming into
today is 265.
A lot of Mariners throughout the years
have had better success on the road
than they have in Seattle,
at least after they moved to Safeco Field.
And remember, gang,
we're bringing back the Friday mailbag
now that the season's returned
probably next week since I haven't gotten any emails yet.
But so if you have a question for me
or a comment on the show,
doesn't even have to be baseball related.
You can call me an idiot
or tell me how much you love the show.
Send your comments and questions
to Lockedon Meriters at gmail.com.
I will read them all.
the air and reply to them.
Doesn't that sound fun?
Yes, it does.
Locked-owned Mariners will return right after this from Postmates.
If you're the type who starts thinking about what they're going to eat for dinner,
while you're still eating lunch, you will love Postmates.
You will love them even more right now because you can get food delivered to you
without leaving your house or even opening your door, given what's going on in the world
they've created non-contact deliveries.
So now when you order from local restaurants, you will get everything left right outside
your door. They also have postmates pickup, which you can use to order takeout from your
favorite local restaurants. You need to be supporting your local businesses. Like I mentioned on
yesterday's program, Glacier Lane's terrific bowling alley in business for six and a half decades.
Unfortunately, had to close up shop because of the epidemic. We do not want that happening to our
favorite local businesses. I loved Glacier Lanes when I was in the Seattle area. I'm sorry to
see them go. Let's not let this happen to any more local businesses. And
Postmates just doesn't deliver burgers and chicken and sushi and pizza,
they can make your life easier by delivering everything you need
from the convenience store, drugstore, or grocery store of your choice,
and dropping it right outside your door.
All you got to do is download Postmates for iOS or Android,
find your favorites, and get everything you need delivered within the hour.
For a limited time, gang, Postmates is giving our listeners $100 of free delivery credit
for your first seven days.
To start your free deliveries, download the app,
and use code locked on.
That is code L-O-C-K-E-D, locked-on for $100 of free delivery credit for your first seven days
when you download the Postmates app.
Anything you need it.
Yep, Post-Mate it.
Welcome back to Lockdown Mariners.
Once again, your host, D.C. Lundberg.
Thank you very much, sir.
That indeed was our announcer, Joey Martin, or J.M., as we like to call him,
bringing you back to Locked-on Mariners.
We never win anywhere, ladies and gentlemen.
But we are going to talk about Kyle Seeger in the second half of today's program
because he did belt his 200th career home run yesterday.
So we got to give the old guy some love.
The old guy, he's younger than I am.
In any case, we're going to talk about him as much as time we'll allow
in the second half of today's program.
Lest you forget, this guy came up as a second basement through the Mariners Farm System.
He made his big league debut in 2011.
on July 7th, 2011,
and he replaced on the roster
and even took over this guy's uniform number, 15.
Do you guys remember when Milton Bradley was a mariner?
I wish I didn't.
But, yeah, he was not the most prestigious of Mariners,
had a bunch of temper issues,
not only with mariners, but throughout his career.
And the Mariners pretty much unceremoniously dropped him one day,
but enough about him.
Kyle Seeger comes up from the minor leagues,
struggles a little bit, comes back down,
and then comes back up
a couple weeks later, I want to say,
if memory serves.
And he was a 23 years old,
23 years old at this point.
In 2011, he played 53 games
slash 258, 312, 379.
He hit three home runs that year.
And I'm going to find out, ladies and gentlemen,
just exactly who his first home run was against.
It came on August 19th,
2011 in Tampa Bay in his 18th Major League game.
He started at second base that day, as a matter of fact, hitting eighth.
Luis Rodriguez hit seventh at shortstop that day,
and Trayvon Robinson hit ninth that day.
Those are some good names to remember.
Felix Hernandez pitched all eight innings that day,
yes, all eight because it was a raise home game,
and the Mariners would wind up losing this game.
and we're going to find Kyle Seeger's home run in this game.
It was off Wade Davis leading off the top of the seventh inning,
and that gave the Mariners a brief two to one lead.
They would go on to lose three to two that day.
Kyle Seeger was an all-star in 2014, a year in which he hit 268, 334, 454,
254, 254, 255 home runs for the third base,
that year with 27 doubles and 96 RBI.
Those 96 RBI were a career high for him, or there are a career high for him.
His season high batting average came two years later in 2016 in his age 28 season at 278.
That was also his season high for home runs with 30.
And I take it back, he had 99 RBI that season.
That is his career high.
Slashline that season was 278, 359, 449, 449 in 150.
58 games.
That looks like it's his best season as a major leaguer.
His All-Star season in 2014, he also won a gold glove,
and he's placed in the top 20 in MVP voting twice,
2014 and 2016, the seasons I just mentioned.
It's really nice to see Kyle Seeger rejuvenated, as it were.
He looks like he did in 2016, 2015.
He was hitting 317 coming into today.
He's now got two home runs.
It's really nice to see him kind of recapture his old form and even exceed some of his numbers that he put up in his prime.
Of course, it's early in the season.
We shall see if it continues, but he's hitting very well right now.
He may put up a season like he had in 2014 or 15.
Time will tell.
Coming into today, his career slash line was 257, 325433.
That is a 768 OPS.
and his OPS for his career.
And remember, 100 is league average.
114 for Kyle Seeger.
He's had quite a career,
one of the better Mariners in team history.
And certainly one of the better third baseman in team history.
I think that'll just about do it for today.
Show, ladies and gentlemen,
Mariners have a day game today against these same Anaheim Angels.
Taiwan Walker will start against Dylan Bundy.
And please join us tomorrow for this game recap.
And I will be joined on the next show by guest panelists, Gomer Pyle, R2D2, and a Waldorf salad.
