Mayors avoid getting swept by the Tigers with a three to two win today. They get just enough production out of the bats against Tarek Scouble. But Luis Castillo was the story in this one for the M's. He goes seven innings strong, just two earn runs on five hits, five strikeouts two walks seven hard hit balls against he did to uh pitch his you know what off with scoble on the mound opposing him and he did just that had a little bit of a shaky fifth
Starting point is 00:01:17 or he made the mistake to trace sweeney they got put over the wall give up a couple of hits led to another run but was able to shut that down had a couple of clean endings the rest of the way and was able to hand the ball off to gab spire and and jose munoz who nailed it yeah we'll talk about we'll talk about muny's uh any a little later on. But yeah, operator. Great start for Castillo this afternoon. Absolutely the start that you needed
Starting point is 00:01:43 out of him. What made him so effective today, Colby? You know, the first thing that jumps out to me is that he threw a lot of four seamers today. In fact, half of his pitches were forcing fastballs. But what's interesting about the distribution there is he threw
Starting point is 00:01:59 46 four seamers, 37 of them to the lefties, only nine of them to the righties, and then you look at the companion pitch there, the two seamer, the sinker. He threw 21 of them. All 21 came against right-handed hitters. The lefties did not see a two-seamer today,
Starting point is 00:02:20 which is pretty interesting, I think, to say the least. And it's definitely something that is worth noting here. We talked about, you know, how much Cassio struggled against left-handed hitters last. year. How was he going to attack them this year? In spring training, he used the slider a lot. And we thought maybe that was the avenue he was going to go, just start, you know, hammering those lefties with the slider. But today, Detroit stacked their lineup with a bunch of lefties and they stacked them right at the top. So he had to face them early on and often.
Starting point is 00:02:54 And he handled them for the most part. So yeah, it was very interesting. Again, it's 21 two seamers, zero of them to lefties. And we saw the two seamer bust a few bats. We saw them, you know, get it in on their hands. And we saw a lot of soft contact as a result. So this, this is a definitely a deliberate game plan on the part of the Mariners and Castillo and Garver because you don't just accidentally throw 21 sinker strides and none to lefties.
Starting point is 00:03:22 So yeah, what's interesting about that is, is that, you know, Castillo threw 73% basketball and the tigers have been really good at jumping on. on fastball's early accounts. It's how they attack every Mariners pitcher because they know that the Mariners want to get ahead with their fastball. Everything works off with the fastball. The Mariners fastball value is king, which is weird why they trust Emerson Hancock so much.
Starting point is 00:03:45 But in this game, he threw 73%... They sent him down, Colby. Move on. They send him down. Never. Not until he's released. Yeah, it was 73% fastball. He only threw seven changeups today.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I actually thought that. the pitch was, you know, okay. I thought it was pretty solid. It would definitely change eye levels and whatnot. But yeah, it was basically a four seamer, two seamer, and then a slider. It was a three pitch mix today. Not crazy amount of whiffs, only 10 whiffs total on 51 swings.
Starting point is 00:04:15 You know, 65 strikes on 92 pitches, though. I believe, I could be mistaken here, but I believe the final count was 25 of 28 hitters. He threw a first pitch strike two. Got ahead with the fastball. We saw a lot of soft content. after that. We saw a lot of broken bats to righties off of that.
Starting point is 00:04:34 And he managed lefties. Yeah, he gave up the home run to the lefty. He gave up kind of a chinty double to Riley Green in the first inning. But he really managed the lineup and he worked around the tough spots. And then he was very aggressive to the right-handed hitters right away, just destroying them on the inside corner and off the inside corner with that two-same fastball. So, yeah, it was interesting because, like, he dominated with the fastball.
Starting point is 00:04:59 but it wasn't a it wasn't his dominating fastball you know like he was mostly 94 a couple 93s some 95s I think hit 96 once or twice with each of those pitches but yeah it wasn't like oh this castillo throwing 97 from that low arm slot and just dominating guys up in the zone like no he really placed the fastball well used it in all four quadrants there was a clear split between two seamers and four seamers and how he used those pitches then he backed it all up with a pretty good slider and a change-up that he just sprinkled in just enough, just enough that it had to be respected. He only threw seven of them, five of them to lefties.
Starting point is 00:05:40 It was just enough usage against the left-handed hitters that they had to respect it a little bit. It was in the back of their mind, which made them late on the fastball, which was only, again, 94-95 today. So, yeah, it's kind of a new-looking Castillo, but the overall results are basically the same. He out-duled Tariq's school.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Terrick. Terrick School. Yeah, Terrick School. It's technically how you say it. But yeah, I do sometimes default to Tareke. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Working on it. But he out-tooled him. Not only did he give up few runs, he went more innings. He went deeper into the ball game, which with the way the Mariners' bullpen has been used the last couple of days was very important. Now they get the off day tomorrow,
Starting point is 00:06:23 and everybody should be available to go on Friday. And that's because of Luis Castillo, who was absolute. else today. And again, it's not like he's facing a juggernaut of a lineup. We understand that. But it doesn't matter. He was good. He was objectively good today. And he did it in a way that was a little bit different than we've seen from Castillo. And we'll see what he does. It does seem like Castillo is kind of changing up the arsenal, but more so how he uses it. When he uses it, it's a new game plan, you know, every week or every start instead of just kind of I do what I do and this is what
Starting point is 00:06:56 you're going to get. So yeah, it's interesting. But, Luis, two outings in, looks very good so far in 2025. This is case and point why you keep Luis Castillo. Because when you're going up against arguably the best pitcher in the game right now and Scoobel, while Castillo definitely isn't even in the same area code as Scoobel, he is a guy that can go toe to toe with him. He can go toe to toe with anyone on any given day. And that's what he did today.
Starting point is 00:07:26 And he was able to out dual scoble on a day where schooled, wasn't the guy, right? Still really good today, but he wasn't as dominant as we have seen him in the past. He wasn't as dominant as we saw him and back-to-back starts last August against the Marrars. And, you know, the offense was able to take advantage of that. So we're going to talk about the offense.
Starting point is 00:07:47 We're going to talk about Andres Munoz and just a moment. But first, a reminder of this episode of the lockdown Maras podcast is brought to you by wonderful pistachios. Starting point is 00:10:25 The shutdown. We can't say what the shutdown was caused by because we might get demonized. But yeah. Yeah. Four years ago? Yeah, and I haven't plugged it in. I opened up the box to make sure everything was in it. And that's the last time I've interacted with it.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Well, if you want a four-year-old Xbox that has never been played before, get us to 15,000 subscribers in the next two days. I put one piece of tape on that box. I could list it as new, like new inbox, like never opened. So there you go. But yeah, anyways, yeah, get us to 15K. So yeah, Like I mentioned, already in the giveaway, there's nothing left to earn.
Starting point is 00:11:03 This is it. This is what you get. You get $125 in Simply Seattle gives certificates. This Lazaro Montes autograph card. This Felston autograph card out of 15. This Victor Robles autograph card out of 230. This J.P. Crawford autograph card out of 25. And this A. E. E.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Hino-Svarez, best player on the planet, A. E. Hennio-Swaras, autograph card, 32 out of 99. So there you go. It hurts so much. yeah yeah you know what the mariner's got like four good endings from carlos vargas the other day to save the bullpen so who really won that trade that's true that's true we wouldn't have gotten potentially the gabe spire ending that we got today without carlos vargas so thank you to carlos vargas already worth a win hey game spire looked really good today like really really i know the the forgotten man in this game because castillo was so good and Munoz was yeah spire was overlooked so um yeah i mean spire got the the highest leverage any which he should have gotten regardless of its lefty righty dan he's your second best reliever dan he had to face green he had to face torkelson and then uh andy abanias who is basically
Starting point is 00:12:23 barry bonds against left-handed pitching so i mean last year he kind of was It's a bit of a stretch. But hey, you know what the nice thing about bringing in the left in that spot is, too? It gets rid of Carrie Carpenter. Okay. Yeah, yeah. So I would rather face Andy Obanias than Carrie Gabbroner. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Who's, yeah, basically, you know, Carpenter is Barry Bonds against the Mariners. Sure. So, and he's basically Bryce Harper against any other right-handed pitcher. See, let's get him out of there, huh? But, yeah, so Gabe Spire was really good. 12 pitches to 9. I mixed it up for fastballs, for sliders, for sinkers.
Starting point is 00:13:06 The four seamer maxed out at 96 today. Sinker was 95 today. Filo was actually down about half a tick today on the four seamer on both the fastballs. But there's also his first time pitching on back-to-back days of the year, although he only threw eight pitches yesterday and just dominated. I talked about it in the post game show on the Patreon. He threw like eight pitchers. pitches, two were called strikes.
Starting point is 00:13:33 He got four whiffs on four swings or something like that. And so just dominated yesterday. And he was really good again today. And we talked about this this off season about how, A, the bullpen is kind of being overlooked as an area of concern, but also B, that one of the reasons to be optimistic about it is that Gabe Spire was hurt last year, couldn't really contribute. And he was really, really good in 2023.
Starting point is 00:13:55 And I think a lot of people forgot how good Spire was in 2023. And they're kind of relearning it today. and yesterday because Gabe Spire has been exceptional out of the pin. You can get ground balls. He can get swing and miss. You can get the big strikeout. He's good against lefties and righties. He had a 75% whiff rate on the slider today, 50% on the four seamer.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Or sorry, the two seamer. Five whiffs on nine swings. He threw nine strikes on 12 pitches. He's now thrown two and two thirds innings four strikeouts over that time, just one hit. Gabe Spire's really good. Yeah. healthy Gabe Spire is very good.
Starting point is 00:14:33 And that's a game changer. If you get 20, 23 Spire for matchup purposes, just because you really need high leverage help in general. There's so many question marks outside of High leverage lefty. Yeah. Bonus.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Bonus. Huge bonus. Take the high leverage arm, right? I think you'd still rather have like fully healthy Matt Brash, go up against Riley Green in a one-world game. Maybe, yeah. But like, it's questionable.
Starting point is 00:14:58 It's like a question. You'd be like, yeah, you go to Spire. that's sure sure nobody's going to blame you for going to spire in that situation so yeah Gabe spires very you know is extremely critical even if they get back Matt brash even when they get Matt back Matt Brash you still you know he's still coming off of well and you don't know what you're going to get from him right now right away since he's you know basically still in rehab so the spire thing gives you another high leverage guy and oh by the way you know who else is looking really good out of the bullpen sixth inning specialist
Starting point is 00:15:28 for some reason Gregory Santos. Like if you get Munoz, not the one we saw today, Munoz, Sperer, Santos. Maybe the one we saw in the last couple of bets, but yeah, yeah, sure. I mean, you know, it everybody knows it just takes some 20 pitches to figure it out, which is just what you want when you're nursing a one-run lead. So, yeah, he looked really nervous in front of all of those fans and attendance today. Yeah, all six out.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Pack stadium. Yeah, boy, it's almost like spreading out the Julio, Rodriguez Bobblehead really didn't accomplish anything. Yeah. It's a failed experiment. Give it up, guys. Just give them away on Fridays like you used to. And then some of us might actually be able to go and get them.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And I mean, like if you're going to spread them out, at least, at least do it over the weekend. I'd do it on a, you know, Monday through Wednesday. Serious. Figure it out. Kmart. But yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Yeah. No. It does. Yeah. But yeah. Again, like. You're the best. But this was a bad.
Starting point is 00:16:30 idea yeah but as far as like like what we were just talking about right like in games like these where you have someone who just destroys right-handed pitching like carry carpenter spire allows you to manipulate matchups right allows you to get that guy out of the lineup right which not just impacts that any but it might impact you know later on in the game as well depending on you know how the rest of the game goes right maybe instead like maybe you bring in spire in a high leverage situation in the six, that turn in the lineup is going to come up once more before the end of the game. Kerry Carpenter is out against a righty, you know? It's like, do you either force A.J. Hinch to remove Carpenter in the sixth and therefore
Starting point is 00:17:13 he's not in the lineup in the eighth or ninth, or you make him face a lefty, in which case, that's a big advantage to you still. So, yeah, and again, that's what adding that lefty element of spire, that's part of what makes him so valuable. But most of these spire is really valuable because he's just really freaking good when he's he's really good and he's good against both handednesses yes yeah like we saw you know against torkelson that's who he shark out today right yeah wicked slider yeah so um yeah i mean a good in and a great gab spire which is he he's been here in a very small sample size sure but a great gab spire which we saw in 20203 that's a legitimate game changer for this bullpen and a multitude of ways you guys think we're like overhyping how good spire was uh in
Starting point is 00:17:57 2023 go look at a stackass page yeah you're welcome yeah 10 5 4 ks per 9 1 81 walks per 9 as a lefty with a 56% ground ball rate this is bat bats and it's hard to get them in the air yeah now when you get them in the air all tends to go over the wall but but you're probably going to strike out or you're probably going to hit the ball on the ground almost every time yeah uh so mooney oh boy He had me on the edge of my seat today. He walked Colt Keith on five pitches, six pitches. I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:18:38 And then he walked Justin Henry Malloy on four consecutive pitches. The command, not good. The control was 20. Yeah, the control, really bad. Yep. Bases end up getting loaded. Javi Baez steps to the plate. We know what happened last year in Detroit last August.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And, you know, look, Mooney missed a spot quite a bit on the first two pitches, but they still didn't miss the strike zone by a ton. And we all know who Javi Baez is. And he laid off both pitches. And it's like, dude, really? Now you don't swing? Seriously, dude? So I was a little bit on tilt watching Mooney, especially.
Starting point is 00:19:27 When the bases were juiced, thankfully, Baez was a weak runner to Demo, and Demo makes the right call, throwing it to home, getting the force out. That sets up the last step out of the game with Zach McKinstree and Mooney just destroyed him.
Starting point is 00:19:43 So that was great. Yeah. I don't know what you're talking about, Ty. Munoz threw a scoreless inning. He struck out a couple dudes, no hard hit balls. That's right.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Yeah. He was great. That's good for, what, seven points in our content creator fantasy league? We're not going to talk about that right now. It's actually worth like 10 points, 12 points. We are publicly putting pressure on Jake from Raise the Trident to change the scoring settings. Sure.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Yeah, a save is worth seven. A home run is worth six. Cool. Yeah, that makes sense. Actually, the save is worth more because you get points for outs and you get points for strikeouts. So Munoz today would have lost three, but it would have gained seven plus for the three outs, plus two for the strikeout. So that's, uh, what, nine points. points for Andres, which you need two solo home runs to be.
Starting point is 00:20:33 To be fair, that's not Jake's system, though. That is a proposal in Jake's system that I am vehemently against. And by that, I mean, everyone chat with us. Change the settings. Yeah. Change the settings. Yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:52 And when I say I'm vehemently opposed to that, I mean, if they make the change like, whatever. It's a free fantasy baseball. I really hope Jake watches this episode. I'm actually like trolling him right now by telling him his favorite ballpark. He's isn't even a good one. So we'll see. Wait, what is his favorite ballpark? Whatever the Giants one is called.
Starting point is 00:21:15 It's a nice ballpark. It's not top 10. It's overrated. Oh, look, we have a giant glove out there. Isn't that cool? Not really. Yeah, but Covey Cove. Yeah. Whatever. Yeah, of course. Of course, you of all people wouldn't like it. It's just not top 10.
Starting point is 00:21:31 It's a very cold, but you take. It's just, it's not Tropicana Field. That's all I'm saying. Oh, Oh, Mr. I go to the Skydome or whatever it's called now. Yeah, no, I know. Yeah, no. Yeah, I was, I was there last night.
Starting point is 00:21:45 It is not enjoyable with the roof close at all. Yeah. It's like a parking garage. Yeah. Yeah. So Munoz, obviously not good today. But good enough. You know, and he did get the big strikeout.
Starting point is 00:21:56 you know he also got the ground ball that led us you know get it pretty much as close as what we'll ever see in modern baseball to uh Mitch garber trucking a dude so uh that that was kind of funny. Yeah. Uh, you know, just, uh, destroyed that. I wonder what he had to say to Cole Keith. Like they, they talked. Yeah. I mean, like the throw was kind of like into him and you know, obviously Garber has to be on the plate because it's a force out. So like I don't think it wasn't intentional on either side. It was just kind of. kind of funny to see because we don't see that no but i was just i'm wondering like what was garb was garber there was garver a little peeved about it or was he just like you good i think garber was probably
Starting point is 00:22:34 like uh hey don't stand on the tracks when the train's coming maybe garber was ripping him about what happened in that that inning where he uh forgot how many else there were and let jp just have first space for free which by the way counted as a hit for some reason yeah again this is why errors and fielding like still work in progress Yeah, yeah. So let's talk about the offense in just a moment, Colby. But first, a reminder of this episode of the lockdown marriage podcast, it's brought to you by Monarch Money. That's monarchmoney.com promo code LOC, KED, O NMLB for half off your first year. And you're listening to the Lockdown Mariners Postgame show. Mariners beat the Tigers 3 to 2 this afternoon at T.Mobile Park. Six hits off of Tarek Schuble, the reigning AL-Sye Young Award winner. They get three earned runs off of them as well. It did strike out eight times, but whatever.
Starting point is 00:24:25 He's going to get his. They also walk three times. They got him out of here before he was able to complete six full innings. Just five hard hit balls, but yeah, you face the reigning AL-Sye Young Award winner? I mean, can't really ask for much more. I mean, the Dodgers only scored one more run than that against him his last time out. The Mariners are basically the Dodgers, according to Ty Dan Gonzalez. That's what I just said.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Or four. Yeah. So, um, yeah, this is so Mariners. We practically predicted it. It's just, it's so on the nose, dude. It's like there's no way they beat Tariq Scoobel, but if they were going to win, if they were going to lose two out of three, the one they would win would be against Tariq Scoobo.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Of course it would be this one. I literally tweeted it before the game.
Starting point is 00:25:17 I was like, look, I don't like their odds. But if they did win this one, that would be so Mariners. and, you know, lo and behold. It's almost comforting to like how like predictable the Mariners are. Yeah. So yeah. I thought they did well overall the offense.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Scoobel is extremely tough. As we know, the tiger's bullpen, although it's been iffy this year is, it has some real guys in the back end. Yeah. And so we knew that it was going to be tough to score runs. And overall,
Starting point is 00:25:53 You know, it's kind of funny when you look at the breakdown of the series. Like in game one, starting pitching, lost that game. Yep. In game two, offense lost that game. In game three, the bullpen very nearly lost that game. So the Mariners almost lost a game in every conceivable way. But the offense was very good on Monday. And it was pretty darn good today when you factor in, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:19 the context of they're facing scuba. Yeah. at T-Mobile Park, which as we know, not only is one of the more difficult ballparks to hit in in baseball, that gets ramped up another 20, 30% in March and April, and even May. And the roof was closed today. It wasn't great weather. Like, yeah, a lot of things were coming together to be like,
Starting point is 00:26:37 this could get bad. And to their credit, again, they knocked him out, didn't get it, he didn't get the quality start, fell out short of that, walked three guys. The Mariners hit a home run off of him. You'll never guess who did that. that's insane by the way so so dillamore went opo on terrick scubel just let that sink in for a second by the way i think it was switch on twitter you've seen switch before right he uh i think he said
Starting point is 00:27:07 that that was only the second time that demo has gone opo at t mobile park in the first time since like 2020 when they had the cardboard cutouts yeah i think he's only done it three times in his entire career. Opposite field home run. And yeah, just why not? Second time at T-Mobile Park against Tarek Skubel. Yeah. No problem.
Starting point is 00:27:29 I mean, it's also worth noting that Dylan Moore also drew two walks. Yeah, I believe both against Scoobel as well. No. No, one of them wasn't. But he drew two walks. He had a home run. And he stole a base. And he'll call that.
Starting point is 00:27:45 That's a combo meal. So, yeah, Dylan Moore. By the way, after today's game, Dylan Moore hitting a cool 375 with a 1.295 OPS. Best hitter on the ball club, Dylan Moore. Sure, why not?
Starting point is 00:28:02 The mayor is Colby's guy. Long time, Dylan Moore, Stan. Always has been. I'm just waiting for the artist to get back with my big blown up picture of him after the gatorade got dumped on him a few years ago. Look like you just got back from Nam. So, yeah,
Starting point is 00:28:18 go figure. Dillan Moore. kind of the offensive star of the game. Now he only had one RBI. The other two runs scored in really the most hilarious way possible. Yeah. We talked about it already in the last segment, but I, Keith forgetting how many outs there were or?
Starting point is 00:28:38 That's the only thing that makes sense. Trying to go to second, but then like the ball got like he couldn't get the handle on it. So then he, I don't know. Like it just, it's a no brainer. There's two outs.
Starting point is 00:28:47 You're taught to throw it a first. Yeah. Two outs, you throw it at first. That's the easiest play. Like, he clearly, you must have forgotten how many outs there were. It was funny. But at the time, you're like, okay, well, you know, there's still two outs and this is still Scoobble.
Starting point is 00:29:02 So probably nothing going to come of it. Then was it first pitch? First pitch right after that. Maybe the second pitch right after that. Yeah. Victor Robles goes to deep left center field just over the head at the center fielder. What is that? Is that his third or fourth double already?
Starting point is 00:29:16 And this is where Parker Meadows not being in this game. save you because you know for a fact that Parford Meadows catches that baseball. I was waiting for him to like fly out of nowhere off of the energy to make that. Yeah, yeah, to make that catch. That son of a. Anyways. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Yeah. But it just gets over his head. The Mariner's score two. And as it turns out, all they would need after that was a Dylan Moore solo homer wall scraper to the opposite field. Basically the game winning run. Yeah. Everybody, every player on the Mariners, except one.
Starting point is 00:29:49 reached base today. Taya, you want to take a guess who didn't? It's been a tough start to the year for me. Yeah. Now,
Starting point is 00:29:59 to his credit, he is one of only three players who didn't strike out today. Yeah. I mean, I mean, Garver also didn't reach base today.
Starting point is 00:30:11 Oh, yeah, you're right. I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah. But Garber also had. That's what I thought
Starting point is 00:30:16 as well. Like, it was both of my guys. Audier Garver and Donnie Barrels. Yeah, but I think Audier Garver's,
Starting point is 00:30:23 really close. And I'm not going to judge a guy who only plays every other day if he's lucky for struggling against Scoobel. Like, okay, yeah. Can we at least get like some opportunities against Ritey's for both Solano and Garber? It's pretty easy to do.
Starting point is 00:30:38 You don't need Routy to Les in the lineup ever again. Dan. So. Yeah. But yeah, I agree. Like, I mean, Garver got cooked by Scoobled today. Absolutely. I mean, smoked. Again.
Starting point is 00:30:52 But most of the people in the lineup did. But it, you know, again, it's scoble. So whatever. Only Dylan Moore can hit scoble. Clearly. And Victor Robles. Hey, Randy, who's super locked in as well, had another hard hit ball.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Randy should be hitting third. There's no reason for Cal Raleigh be hitting ahead of him right now. Yeah. Cow Raleigh looks like trash at the plate. Especially right-handed Raleigh. Left-handed Raleigh, I can wrap my head around it more. Even then. Strikes out too much.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Yeah. Right hand of right hand of Raleigh, no. Randy Rangelera should be hitting third until Cal Raleigh figures it out because Cal Raleigh looks awful. But yeah, everybody but Solano and JP had at least a hard hit ball today. And again, it's three runs. It's six hits, really five. But, you know, it's, you have to have that caveat in there that it's like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:31:44 but it was against scuba. Yeah. Like three runs against scubal is like five or six or seven against. against J.P. Sears. Yeah, I mean, if Scoobel isn't the best pitcher in the game, he is top three at least. Yeah. Top three, top five. Yeah. So, yeah, good on them. They got to him a little bit again. You're not going to dominate Scoobel, right? Like, scubel probably gets dominated once or twice this year, period.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Yeah. So that's not going to happen, especially not for you, especially not this early, especially not in this ballpark. Three runs, less than five. five innings, you drew three walks, you hit a homer, took advantage of a mistake like you needed to, and you won the game. And your pitcher outdueled their guy. Your number two outdueled their number one, period. And he won. So you'll take it.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Yeah. And considering just how awful the offense has been and considering how awful certain other things have been, Dan Wilson, you're three and four. You avoided kind of disaster. Not that two and five is a huge difference, but it sure feels. different, doesn't it? Three and four versus two and five. It sure feels a lot different. Oh, this episode
Starting point is 00:32:57 would be a lot worse. Yes. I was preparing myself for the gloomiest episode ever when Munoz was doing his thing. Yeah, that added a little extra to my anxiety watching that ending. It's like watching a Sunday afternoon
Starting point is 00:33:13 game where it's like, I know we're doing mailbag. Yeah. The Mariners haven't won the first two games. The questions are going to be heavily determined by whatever. happens in these nine innings. Unless the Mariners win the first two games of a series, then it's like, okay, well, a little bit, but not much.
Starting point is 00:33:29 But if it's split or if they lose the first two games of the series, I watched that Sunday game like, yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, by the way, oh, well, go ahead. Overall, three and four, you're not playing particularly well. You know, you went up against a division rival who played really well the second half of last year.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Then you went up against a playoff team from last year and you had to face their ace. You faced, you know, I would say three really good pitchers, this homestands. Those being scubal, Severino, and Springs. You know, Bito, getting there. Yeah, getting there. I mean, and Joe has insane stuff and Mize has really taken a leap at Sam. Yeah, I mean, we'll see him. see how it all works out, but that's,
Starting point is 00:34:22 that's what early season baseball is, right? Nobody's hurt. You have to face the best. They're all still in an order. Like nobody's gotten skipped or anything like that. So for you to play as poorly as you did, kind of in all three phases at times, for you to be three and four, I'll take it.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Not where you want it to be, but I'll take it. Yeah, we will definitely could have been worse. Yeah, we'll review the first seven games of the year a bit more tomorrow because the mares are off. tomorrow we'll also get you set for the Mariners Giants series because it's actually a day game on Friday it's the Giants home opener so that's why it's an early start so it's going to be
