Yes, indeed, the Mariners did make another trade mere hours before yesterday's trade deadline.
They sent reliever and, you know, somewhat de facto closer, Taylor Williams to,
Stop Me if you've heard this before, the San Diego Padres.
And yes, stop me if you have heard this part before,
for a player to be named or cash considerations.
Also, as part of this deal, the Mariners,
are sending to the Padres
35 gallons of Ivers clam chowder.
Also yesterday, the Mariners defeated the Angels 2 to 1
to split the four-game series in Anaheim.
We will get to that, including Marco Gonzalez's
brilliant pitching performance in the second half of today's show.
We're going to talk a little bit about the trade first,
namely we're going to talk about what Taylor Williams had done
as a Seattle Mariner and, you know, kind of his career at large as well.
Williams was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round in 2013 from Kent State,
but he's also a local kid born in Vancouver, raised in the Pacific Northwest,
and he was a Mariners fan growing up.
He had had some armed trouble over the past couple of seasons
and only pitched 10 games at the Major League level last season to a 982 ERA.
However, in his first stint in the big leagues in 2017,
five games, 193 ERA, and the next season, 2018, 56.
games, 10 games finished, and a 4-2-5-ERA.
His career numbers, 534 ERA, 1.535 whip, 9.9 strikeouts per 9 innings, 4.3
strikeouts, pardon me, 4.3 walks per 9 innings.
This year, he had been up and down, he had some good outings, some bad outings,
and that led him to accumulate a 593 ERA in 14 games.
Nine of them are games finished.
139 whip, which is below his career average,
4.6 walks per nine innings,
striking on a ton more batters than he used to,
12.5 per nine innings.
And again, just back to his time with the Brewers,
he was selected off waivers by the Mariners
back on February 21st of this year
before everything went boom prior to spring training.
The Brewers had kind of give it up on him, so to speak.
He had had some arm trouble, like I said,
and they were ready to give up on him.
he is 29 years old, turned 29 on July 21st, and again traded to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
This is the fourth trade the Mariners have made since the middle of last week.
First trade sent recently DFAed Daniel Vogel back to the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Second trade sent Taiwan Walker to the Blue Jays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
considerations. Third trade was the big one. Austin Nola, Dan Altavilla, and Austin Adams to the San Diego Padres for Taylor Trammell, Luis Torrens, Thai France, and Andres Munoz. And then yesterday, the final trade, Taylor Williams to the San Diego Padres, for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Mariner's made four trades, two of them with the Blue Jays, two of them with the Padres. And as a matter of fact, Taylor Williams was discussed.
as to be part of the big deal with the Padres that went down Sunday night.
That trade wound up going down Monday morning.
And I can kind of understand why it was a separate deal rather than lumped in with a bigger deal.
And it has to do with the player to be named later or cash considerations.
The player was probably already agreed upon,
or it was a list of players, you know, depending on how well Williams does in this month with the Padres.
And they wanted the player that they get back to be big.
based on Williams' performance alone,
rather than have that be lumped in with the rest of that trade.
So I totally get why it was a separate deal.
We're going to talk about yesterday's game in the second half of the program
and then kind of talk about what the Mariners are going to do the rest of the week.
And as far as Tuesday and Wednesday, it's not play baseball.
And we'll tell you why in a little bit.
First of all, the Mariners trivia question for the day.
A little Mariners' history.
for today's trivia question.
On this date in Mariner's history, September 1st, 2008,

Answer to the Mariners trivia question on this date in baseball history, September 1st,
1998 or 2008, as it were, September 1st, 2008, like I said. Adrian Beltray goes five for five,
scored five runs, and hit for the cycle against his future team, the Texas Rangers, the team
with which he would accumulate pretty much all of his Hall of Fame credentials. Mariner's won
the ball game at 12 to 6. Beltrory was the fourth Mariner to hit for the cycle, following Jay
Buehner, Alex Rodriguez, and John Olerud. If you've got a question for me, or
comment on the show, send an email to Locked-on Mariners at gmail.com, and I will consider using
your question or comment for the Friday mailbag segment. As I mention on every show, it does
not need to be a baseball question. Ask me anything, and if it's appropriate, I will use it on the air.
Locked-on mariners at gmail.com again is that address. Send those questions and comments in,
and I'll consider using them for Friday's show. More Lockedown Mariners following this from Indeed.

Going to talk about yesterday's ballgame here in the second half of the program today.
A note about yesterday's show, I had some.
I was going to update you on Taiwan Walker in the second half of yesterday.
program before the big trade went down.
And since there was a trade today that I talked about,
we'll save that for tomorrow's program.
Because as you'll soon learn,
I'm not going to have a whole lot to talk about in terms of a game
that's going to happen today.
The Oakland Athletics were supposed to come into town
and begin a three-game series in Seattle,
which was to begin today.
Somebody on their team or staff,
we don't know who, we don't know if it's a player or staff member,
tested positive for COVID-19.
my least favorite kind of 19.
And again, they're not allowed to say who it is because of medical confidentiality laws.
Unless the person who did test positive, you know, comes forth with that information themselves.
But somebody on the Oaklandese team or staff did test positive for COVID-19.
So they are quarantined in Houston and have not yet made the trip to Seattle.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays ball games at least have been postponed.
We're not sure about Thursdays yet.
So tomorrow I will talk about that Taiwan Walker Uniform Number trivia,
which I was going to talk about on yesterday's program before the big trade went down,
and we'll just see where we go from there.
Let's get to the ball game, however, the fourth game of a four-game series in Anaheim.
I'm Mariners did win this one.
Two to one, Angels got the scoring underway in the bottom of the second inning.
It was a Justin Upton solo home run, and that is all the Angels would muster today.
Marco Gonzalez was fabulous.
We'll talk about that in just a little bit.
Joseph Odom had an RBI single to score Ace Frely in the third inning,
and then in the top of the sixth inning, Jose Marmaléjos,
hit a solo home run of his own to give the Mariners a two-to-one lead,
which they would hold on to for the rest of the ball game.
They'd win the game by that two-to-one score.
Mariners accumulated eight hits,
while the Angels could only manage four.
Marmalejos went two for three,
also with the walk, he's got his batting average all the way up to 229, which I know doesn't sound
all that spectacular, but considering he was hitting 103 before he was sent out in the early
part of the season, that's a 126 point swing in his batting average. So that is actually really
impressive. He was brought up to be the extra player for the double header late last week,
and he played so well in both games that they sent out a pitcher instead and kept him on the
roster, and he's done nothing but hit ever since.
The biggest change that he made after going to the alternate training site,
according to him, is the fact that he no longer puts so much pressure on himself.
He didn't really change anything mechanically.
It was a mental change, and my goodness, he has come up aces ever since being recalled
for the alternate training site.
Very good to see.
J.P. Crawford went one for three with a walk, telegram Sam Haggurty, one for four.
Lewis went O for four.
Kyle Seeger checks in with the hit. Marmaloos, two for three, like we said.
Ace Frealey, Jake Freely, also checking in with two hits.
And Joe Odom, raising his batting average all the way up to 0.95, one for four.
I shouldn't joke like that.
The catching situation is so dire at this time.
Joe Odom probably wouldn't even be in the major leagues, but that's the way it goes.
Also, on that note, General Manager Jerry Depoto did say yesterday that newly acquired Luis Torrens
would probably get most of the catching time in the final month of the season.
And I'm not sure if Odom or Hudson are going to be sent out or neither of them,
but I am sure that we will find out in due time.
We'll talk about Marco Gonzalez's brilliant pitching performance
after I give you some other roster notes before the game,
since the Manor's had some roster spaces to fill with all the trades and whatnot,
recalled from the alternate training site yesterday,
where outfielder Braden Bishop, Joe Hudson is back up on
the roster, and also infielder Donnie Walton this year known as Donovan.
So maybe I'll start calling him Sunshine Superman.
I hope you get that reference, ladies and gentlemen.
I don't have confidence.
Mariners are going to have to make at least one more roster move when Luis Torrens is added
to the big league roster and maybe even Thai France.
I don't know if he's going to join the big club or not.
I'm assuming that he is.
So probably two more players are going to be sent out when that does happen.
Time to get to Marco Gonzalez.
Zalas's pitching performance yesterday, and he spun a beauty, ladies and gentlemen.
It was a complete game effort, 102 pitches, four hits, including that solo home run,
only the one run it was earned, one walk, very nice to see, and eight strikeouts.
This is the job, yes, of a number one starter.
This is great to see.
And I was very, it was wonderful to see Scott's service give him the opportunity.
to finish his own ball game, which is a lost art in today's game.
And if your number one starter can save your bullpen like this,
then you've really got something there,
because there are not many pitches like that left.
Angels did only muster four hits, as we mentioned,
and Drellton Simmons had two of them,
Justin Upton with that solo home run,
and pinch hitter Shohei Altani had the other hit.
As I also mentioned, Mariners were going to begin
a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics today in Seattle.
They are now not going to do that.
Today's game.
Tomorrow's game both postponed.
Thursdays is still up in the air.
So again, tomorrow's episode,
some Taiwan Walker trivia for you.
We will tell you how he's doing in Toronto
and give you some trivia
on his new uniform number in Toronto
since he can no longer wear 99.
And on Thursday's program,
the return of Diamond Quiz,
which we recorded on Sunday.
And that episode will feature
Ulysses Samprano
from Locked on Rays, Javierz from Locked on Padres,
and Gabrielle Starr from Locked on Red Sucks.
And on tomorrow's program, we will be joined by Lieutenant Lou Mertaw,
Gumby, and a garbage bag.
