Here's your host, D.C. Lundberg.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you only knew how much I had to cut out of the program and redo because I get tongue-tied,
this is the sixth time I've tried to record the opening to this show.
Welcome to Locked-on Mariners.

Unders-L-L-D-B-E-R-G, if you're scoring at home.
finally made it. Yesterday, September 23rd, 2020, Year of Our Lord,
Mariners did what they had to do and beat the Houston Astros by a final score of 3 to 2.
Nick Margievich just started the ballgame for the Mariners.
Zach Granky opposed him, former Syung Award winner, Zach Granky, no less.
So it was a pretty good test for Margievich's, you know, plus the Astros.
The Astros, everybody thought that they were going to be really, really good this year.
They're basically a 500 team.
And as a matter of fact, after yesterday's game, they are exactly 500, 28, and 28.
In yesterday's game, Mariners got things going right away in the bottom of the first inning,
Kyle Lewis scoring on a Thai-France RBI double.
Thai-France has done very good things offensively for the Seattle Mariners since being acquired from the Padres.
Mariners would score two more in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Kyle Seeger to score J.P. Crawford,
and then Ty France once again scores Seeger on an RBI single.
Astros would not score until the ninth inning,
and they would score both runs on a Josh Reddick single.
Kyle Tucker and Alemnes Diaz scoring on the play.
Margievichus did start the ballgame for the Margaris, as I mentioned.
Six innings, three hits, no runs, of course, three walks.
That's kind of iffy.
And four strikeouts.
So a little bit of a mixed bag for Margevichis,
hey, you cannot argue with no runs given up.
Graveman came in for an inning in a third.
Kendall Graveman gave up a hit and a walk and struck out a batter.
Anthony Masevich, two thirds of an innings pitched,
nothing given up with one strikeout.
Yoshihita Hedano pitches the final inning,
gives up three hits and two runs, one walk,
and striking out one batter.
He earns his fourth save of the season.
Again, Ty France, who was the designated hitter in yesterday's ballgame,
has just been tearing the cover off the ball as a Seattle Mariner.
So far since being acquired from the Padres in 19 games,
he is slashing 296, 359, 465.
He's driven in 10 runs, hit two home runs,
four doubles, among his 21 hits.
He actually had a better slash line as a Padre,
hitting 309, 377, 491.
So when you combine those staff,
and his mariner stats for the season, he is slashing 302, 367, 476, with 20 RBI, 4-76, with 20 RBI, 4-R-R-R-R-R-Runs,
eight doubles, and one triple.
That triple did come as a Seattle Mariner.
Another part of that trade catcher Luis Torrens has also been doing very good things as a Seattle
Mariner.
He is slashing 278, 355, 407 in the 16 games in which he has played at.
after the trade.
He also has four doubles and one home run with six runs driven in.
As a Padre, he was slashing 273, 333, 364.
A very similar slash line to what he has as a Seattle Mariner and for the season,
and that was only seven games as a Padre.
He wasn't playing every day at that time.
His season slash line, when he combined his Mariners and Padre's stats,
he is slashing 277, 347, 4.7.4.
400 with six runs batted in, all of those coming as a Seattle Mariner, five doubles,
four of those coming as a Seattle Mariner.
So this is shaping up to be a pretty good trade thus far for the Seattle Mariners.
And that doesn't involve Taylor Tramel.
It is Trammell, not Trammell, as I originally thought.
I was thinking of Alan Trammell, the Hall of Fame shortstop for the Detroit Tigers.
Taylor Trammell is still a prospect, only time will tell if he winds up being the real deal
or not.
Show today is probably going to be on the shorter side, ladies and gentlemen.
I will talk about the playoff implications stemming from yesterday's ballgame in the second
half of the program.
But before the second half of the program, we have to do the Meriters trivia question,
don't we?
Okay, we shall.
Today's Merrittor's trivia question will involve Ty France.
He was drafted in 2015 by the Padres in the 34th round of the draft.
Today's question, was he the latest draft pick?
out of that draft who has made the major leagues so far?

Answer to the Mariners trivia question,
Thai France was drafted in 2015 by the Padres in the 34th round.
And yes, there are players drafted later on than France was
who have made the major leagues.
The latest draft picks so far who has made the major leagues.
The latest draft picks so far who has made them.
major leagues is left-handed pitcher Daniel Zamora, who was drafted number 1207 overall in the 40th
round by the Pirates.
The last draft pick was number 1215, meaning only eight more players were drafted after Zamora.
Do you have a question or a comment?
Send it on over to Lockdown Mariners at gmail.com, and I will consider using it for the Friday
mailbag segment.
As a matter of fact, if it's not inappropriate, I will use it for the.
the Friday mailbag segment, which is coming up tomorrow.
And again, with the season likely ending for the Mariners on Sunday, over the off-season,
I might go to a once-every-week mailbag segment or once every three weeks.
We'll just kind of fly by the seat of our pants and see, and see how it goes.
But I will be doing mailbags throughout the off-season, just not every week as I had
been doing during the regular season.
More Locked-on Mariners following this word from Rock Auto.
With the ever-increasing numbers of makes and models, it is
is now impossible to stock all the parts you need in a traditional chain storefront.
Why ender often pointless or seemingly intimidating questioning and wait while the
counterman orders the parts on his computer choosing the only brand that his warehouse happens
to carry?
You've got computers with access to rock-a-rockado.com at home and in your pocket.
Why would you choose to spend 30%, 50% 100% more for the exact same auto parts at a chain
store or dealership?
Chain stores have different price tiers for professional mechanics and do-it-yourselfers.
On the other hand, ladies and gentlemen, rockado.com's prices are the same for everybody,
and they're always reliably low.
Rockato.com has a family business, no less, serving auto parts customers online for 20 years.
Go to rockato.com to shop for auto and body parts from hundreds of manufacturers.
Whether it's for your classic or daily driver, get everything you need in a few easy clicks delivered directly to your door.
The rockado.com catalog is unique and remarkably easy to navigate.
And yes, I can attest to that, ladies and gentlemen, it is very easy to navigate.
Quickly see all the parts available for your vehicle and choose the brand, specifications,
and prices that you prefer.
Why spend up to twice as much for the same parts?
Don't do it.
Go to rock auto.com instead to see all the parts available for your car, truck, van,
crossover, SUV, convertible, pogo stick.
Whatever you drive, they've got parts for it.
They've even got parts for a
1974 bricklin.
Write rock on.
No.
Write locked on in there.
How did you hear about us, box?
So they know that we sent you.
Rock on was by David Essex.
Amazing selection, reliably low prices.
All the parts your car will ever need.
Rock Auto.com.
And I bet even David Essex can find auto parts on rock auto.
Okay.
What was that?
David Essex.
Now time for the second half.
of Locked-on Mariners.
Once again, your host, D.C. Lundberg.
Did I really drop a David Essex reference into the advertisement?
Yes, I did, because I happened to combine Rock Auto with Locked-On and I got Rock On,
which of course is the great David Essex song from 1973.
In any case, I'm going off topic again, and I haven't even started the second half
of the show yet, which I will do right now.
Locked-on Mariners' second half is set to begin.
Thank you, Joey Martin, for bringing us back.
We're going to talk about the playoff implications stemming from yesterday's ballgame
with the Mariners winning the Astros losing, obviously, because the Mariners did in fact beat the Astros.
And the Angels do play an important role in this also.
Ladies and gentlemen, they also won yesterday by a 5-2 score over the San Diego Padres.
So as of right now, the Angels are two and a half games back of the Astros for second place in the American League West.
and the Mariners, pardon me, are two and a half games behind the Astros.
So, you know, anything can happen again, as I keep saying,
the Mariners have four games left all against Oakland.
You know, they're the division winner.
They're very, very good.
They're going to give the Mariners a tough battle.
And let's see how the Angels are going to finish up this season.
They have three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers to finish up the season.
The Dodgers are also really, really good.
They're the champions of the National League West.
the Angels need to lose probably two of three or maybe all three for the manners to have a shot.
And the Astros finish up with four games against the Texas Rangers.
And the Rangers are not a very good baseball team.
They're actually pretty lousy.
They are in dead last in the American League West.
They are 19 and 37.
That's a 339 winning percentage.
That's the worst winning percentage in the American League.
The Rangers are not very good.
So the Astros, again, have that soft schedule.
which is, you know, the Astros, I see them probably winning three or four of those ball games
just because the Rangers are so terrible.
So if that's going to happen, that means the Astros are going to win the second spot
in the American League West.
But hey, you never know what's going to happen.
If Texas somehow catches lightning in a bottle and goes on some sort of hot streak
and the Astros just completely fall off the face of the earth,
let's fudge with some numbers.
Seattle is 25 and 31.
as I said.
If they sweep Oakland, and let's face it, gang, that's not happening.
They would be 29 and 31.
That is the best record that they can achieve this season
if they win the final four ball games against Oakland.
Houston would have to lose their final four ball games in Arlington
to wind up at 28 and 32 with the Mariners being one game ahead of them.
The Angels actually could win two of three.
The Astros are really the key here,
because the Angels would also have to sweep their final three ball games to be ahead of Houston.
Houston is the key.
They have to lose out for the Mariners or the Angels to have a shot at that second spot in the American League West.
Again, I don't see that happening.
The Rangers are just too poor of a ball club to sweep a team like Houston.
They're really too poor of a ball club to sweep anybody in a four-game series.
So, you know, it looks like Houston's going to win this thing.
As I said, Houston's,
got to lose out. The Mariners have to win out, and the Angels would then have to lose at least
one ballgame for the Mariners to be at 29 and 31, and for the Astros and Angels to both be
28 and 32. Well, on that high note, we're going to call this show. We'll be back tomorrow,
and I will be joined by Mike Fulton, Gonzo the Great, and a toaster. Remember to download
