And on today's episode, we launch our newest series here on Lockdown Mariners, the content
creator's spotlight. Once a week, for the next few weeks and occasionally during the season,
you will hear from the many voices that make the Mariners fan community what it is.
Today we begin with a collaboration.
I know many of our listeners have been wanting for quite some time.
I got a chance to sit down with Colton Swanson and Joe Lacey,
the duo behind Mariner Mojo and the Hit It Here podcast,
and it is pretty unhinged.
We had technical issues,
a surprise appearance towards the end,
and a hell of a lot of editing for me to do.
But nevertheless, this was a lot of editing.
a really fun conversation and I think you're going to enjoy it.
I'm here with Colton Swanson and Joe Lacey from Mariner Mojo.
And for those of you that don't know, Colton and I go way back.
That's right.
He wrote alongside Colby and I over on Soto Mojo a few years back.
So I figured there was no one better to help kick off our Mariners content creator spotlight series than him as well as Joe.
And since the days of Soto Mojo, Colton and Joe have created one of the biggest Mariners channels.
on YouTube. That's right. Give yourself a pat on the back. Give yourself a round of applause.
Hard to reach. Thank you so much.
They're also the hosts of the Hit It Here podcast. I'm sure a lot of you already
are familiar with them. I'm sure we have a lot of overlap between our two listener bases.
But Colton, Joe, thanks for taking the time.
Yeah, I really appreciate you letting us come on here on Locked-on. You guys have always been a big
inspiration for us. You know, and like you said, you and Colby, I've known you guys since
2016, 18, something like that. Yeah, and you know, writing over there. So it's, it's cool to finally
get to talk to you somewhat face to face. What do you remember most about those days?
Ooh. The, the Twitter group chat where anytime I would say something about Daniel Vogel bought
Colby ripping into me. Right. And me defending his honor. My favorite moment was, you know,
for those of you that don't know, that aren't familiar, Colton was a big Voguey fan. I mean, still is,
but back when Voguey was, I mean, look at what he's got there in the background.
But when Voguey was on the team, Colton was a stand.
He was a Voguey stand.
And so much so that he wanted to figure out what his middle name was.
And we couldn't figure it out for the life of us.
Maybe he doesn't have a middle name.
I don't know.
I don't know if we ever found that out or not.
So Colton was like, screw it.
His middle name is Cornelius.
So that just became a thing.
So much so that Dave Simmons even said it on the broadcast one night.
I think it was just like a random like Tuesday night game or something like that.
But that was a very big accomplishment for us.
That was a that was a very big moment for us.
There was a moment.
So he had a on my birthday in like 2018, he was doing a signing at a local card shop.
And I went there and I'm like, he's going to know.
He is going to know this nickname that I gave him.
And I'm sitting there.
I'm like, hi, Voguey.
Hey, man.
Anyone ever called you Cornelius?
No.
I was like, okay.
Just ruin your dream.
Yeah, I was like, okay, so I had a sign and everything.
I do remember that Sims on the broadcast when he acknowledged that said that they would bring it up to him.
So I guess that never happened.
I guess not yet.
And he was like, please get away from me.
I think I was in a movie when that happened.
And I came out and I had like 5,000 notifications from all you guys.
And I'm like, oh my God.
Like, how did this happen?
It was amazing.
It was a very big moment for all of us.
Yep.
So I want to know.
how your Mariners fandom began, both of you.
I'll start with Joe.
So I just grew up being a baseball fan just in general.
Baseball and basketball were the like main two I partook in, I guess, growing up.
My running theory and the one my parents will say is while I was in the womb,
they went and saw space jam and baseball and basketball are very,
come on a slam.
Yeah, so that's the, I think, the origin for that.
But as far as baseball, it's just the one I played the most, the one I think I just, I attached to as early on as I could remember.
I mean, I had the 2001 team poster up in my room.
There are some dips and dives in my Mariners fandom, you know, like my, when I was super young, I chose an NL team.
Because I was super just into the sport.
I was watching ESPN Sports Center when I still should have been watching cartoons.
So I was like, let's just pick an NL team to root for it.
And I chose the Giants.
And then the 2010s happened.
And I was like, oh, it's great to be a Giants fan.
And I kind of, I kind of forgot a little bit about the hometown Seattle Mariners a little bit.
And as, as time went on, I moved away to college and in California now.
And when I got further away, I kind of got more attached back to the Mariners for whatever reason.
And just talking with Colton, like the pandemic and obsession with baseball cards and like wanting to get.
into that hobby kind of the thing and then ultimately mariner mojo happening but we're not quite
there yet but yeah baseball has just been a consistent factor growing like my entire life
colton what about you go so i my first ever baseball game my parents told me and i vaguely remember
it we were sitting down the first baseline and apparently i was like five six and i was complaining
how bored i was and i fell asleep during the game which you were one of those guys huh i must
of baseball is like glorified golf yeah right yeah and I was like this is stupid yeah and then anyways
long story short I played baseball a lot growing up um similar to joe and you know I would I definitely
like the merrish and I definitely loved you know like each year old when I was growing up and whatnot
but what really kind of got me into the the whole sport of baseball Joe actually we he made a fantasy
baseball league or we joined one or something like that in 2000 probably 10 or 11 and I had the first
round draft back and I picked Evan Longoria of all people back then which is fine and you know
that kind of just really set me on the path of okay I'm focusing on everything not just the
marries I'm focusing on all baseball all the time and I mean you know Mariners hometown team of course
and about an hourish south of the stadium so I can go to quite a few games and I mean it's just
there's no place I'd rather be than Tinole Park at any given moment I mean I was at Joe's you know
apartment last week I'm like God I don't want to be here okay I don't know I don't we don't have you know like
chick-chick-ch-boom or any of the fun stuff like team no moto pizza yeah true overrated by the way
hot hot take overrated over priced we we talked about this uh on monday show a lot of people are
big fans of the moto pizza a lot of a lot of ivers people as well yeah i'm some ivers boys
i would probably go pizza before ivers personally okay the price let's let's i'm calling an audible yeah i'm
calling an audible though no no no we're ranking top five places to eat t mobile park go
joe considering considering everything like i'm thinking like uncle charlie's cheese steaks
but like that one i was in the line for like 35 minutes and i missed the like first inning and a half
just because i wanted a cheese steak it was really good though i'm going to put it at five i think
it can crack my top five um i might go
I feel I'm going to put chick-chick boom at four because I have it in Oakland as well.
It's not something that I can't get.
Yeah, it's every is it everywhere?
Oh, I don't know about everywhere, but it's at least not just T-Mobile.
Then I'll probably go Moto Pizza.
I've only had it once and it was amazing.
It's just a little overpriced.
Two, I'll probably, oh, I don't know how to how I want to go about this.
Because like, I feel like, drama.
I feel like Kid Valley's got to be my number one.
That's more nostalgia, though.
Is it?
I think that's nostalgia.
Because we have a story about Kid Valley.
I guess, but I don't know.
I would go probably Kid Valley One, and I don't even, like, what's the barbecue place out behind right field?
Behind right?
Well, I think it moved, but it was.
Fantastic.
I know what you're talking about, but yeah, I don't remember the name of it right now.
all right colton your your top five number five i'm probably going to go with kid valley just because
it's like you know then again that's more nostalgia so to peel back the curtain a little bit joe and i
went to felix's perfect game uh with a bunch of my friends we were both there and we've got
chicken strips at kid valley and so then we us being so is that a tradition now like get chicken strips over
a kid valley okay more often than not although chick chick-ch-boom is really throwing a wrench into my plans
All right. Let me tell you, because that place is damn good.
There, I would put like salt or salt and straw.
There's a little ice cream shop.
See, you were counting ice cream.
See, I didn't think you were counting everything.
Yeah, the rooftop replaces is my number two, all right?
Roof top of freshmen.
Yeah, with our homie.
Oh, yeah, that's fair.
Yeah.
Number three, I will, I'll, I'll throw Uncle Charlie's cheese steaks in there.
Little too much bread.
Little too much bread.
Uncle Charlie's, listen, if you're listening.
A little too bready for you?
A little too bready.
I need a little bit more, little bit more cheese.
on there if we're going to you know if we're going to really make this happen number two i might go
ballard pizza over moto pizza honestly the calzone yeah and then number one it's actually on the terrace
club level the 200 level there's a pasta bar that i can't think of the name of it right now i know that goldie
and blowers love to eat there um and so yeah i know right the terrace club ooh we're bougie okay
we're so pos here they have this fedagini alfredo it is so good that's number one

You guys talked a little bit about this, but how did you guys meet?
We met in, well, technically we met probably elementary school, but we didn't really
become friends until sixth grade was when we really became, we had an English class together.
And that class specifically, you know, a lot of stories from that class.
That class specifically, I think I wrote my first.
phone number in Joe's like school planner.
Yeah, not even the yearbook, the planner.
The school planner.
Had it on my to-do list.
When we were kids, Joe and I were playing baseball for a little league and we were playing,
I don't know if we played against each other or we were in the same complex,
but Joe thought my dad was his dad when we were little.
And so he walked up and hugged him.
That was at a banquet.
Nice.
Wasn't that a banquet?
It was end of the year banquet.
And it was for the entire league.
Got it.
he was wearing glasses like my dad would wear glasses and it had a beard that's all i needed
try and keep your story straight i'm sorry you know it gets mixed up all right he changes it
every other day so yeah so yeah that's we go we go way back at this point we're we've been friends
for like like i don't know probably 18 years 20 years something like that i don't know we're old
how older we i don't know i was gonna i was gonna say though you can obviously
tell that when you watch the videos
when you watch the podcast there's a lot
of chemistry there it's very
much these are a couple of guys that
grew up together have been talking ball
with one another for a very long time
and I really really enjoy that aspect
of your guys' channel
so how did the channel
come together like Colton fill in the gap
for me here because
uh
between Soto Mojo
and Manor Mojo yeah okay so
I'm just on YouTube one day
this is like I don't know around the time that we started doing locked on maybe maybe a little bit after maybe we had been doing it for like a half year or something like that but I'm on YouTube I see this Mariner Mojo account right I'm like oh cool like more people are starting up Mariners content that's awesome great I click it I'm like this guy looks familiar how did we go from Soto to now so that's a long story
You and I actually talked prior to Locked on in Mariner Mojo about Twitch streaming, right?
You were, and I was Twitch streaming on my spec channel, my special Twitch channel.
Right, I remember that.
Call of Duty stuff.
And I was making Call of Duty YouTube videos.
I've always loved making YouTube videos.
Actually, Joe and I have both always loved making videos, just random things.
You know what I mean?
Just random, weird, you know, whatever we-
sketch comedy stuff.
Like, we really like Smosh, like in the early 2010.
And so we kind of just did small little things like that.
If we hung out and like something came up, like, all right.
We're just going to make a fun, stupid little video.
Which one of you is Anthony and which one of you is Ian?
That's a good question.
I never thought about that.
You had Anthony's hair for like pretty much to a T, but I think you've changed it to Ian.
You got to get the, you got to get the tattoos now.
True.
That's a good point.
I do.
Yeah.
I never thought about it like that.
I don't think either of us are one or the other.
It's all, it's just one big meld.
Right, right.
So anyway, I had.
to be a Anthony
Ecox
Yeah, well done, see
Ty knows is Smosh
He knows ball
The fact that they re-bought
Smosh by the way
So good
Good for them
Good for them
I think that
You know, I was making
This Call of Duty content
I'm like,
This sucks
Like that channel got to like
4K subs
And it made
It made me $300 last year
In 20203
And I didn't upload a single video
So like
There was like things in there
That obviously I was learning
How to do YouTube from that
And Joe and I had tried
Making YouTube channels
Before pulling back
and currently we tried making Yu-Gi-O card videos,
Pokemon card videos.
Joe had a,
had a Rocket League channel on YouTube.
So this wasn't our first iteration.
And one day I was sitting here,
it was early August.
And I'm like,
I just like,
I really want to talk Mariners baseball
and I just have no way to do it.
And I have been listening to the CTZ,
you know,
all your guys' stuff over on Patreon.
My condolences.
And,
of and the early CTCZ days I can't listen to it I can't no I try I tried going back
like listening to the first couple episodes and I'm like nope can't do it really I'm out I'm out
can't do it no and and so like I was like man I wish I had like some sort of outlet like that
you know just like just a talk and I've done writing I did I wrote it Soto Mojo I wrote for a few
other websites my college newspaper etc but writing is this you know kind of going it's had
style baby you know videos the future or whatever right right right future
And so I was sitting there and I'm like, I'm just going to make a video.
And the first video I made was about Jesse Winker.
The Seattle Mariners.
Ah, Mariners legend.
The Seattle Mariners missing wink instead of missing link.
I know.
I know.
Clever.
And that's the end of our interview.
Thank you so much for tuning in time.
And so I made that video.
And that's the one actually that Joe had come across because the YouTube channel I was doing it on was one that I had made videos for before.
Like I tried to make.
one called Base Knock Analytics and I made like a video about war on there. It's still on the
channel. It's awful. It's not bad. It's not bad, but it's not great. And anyway, so Joe's
already subscribed to it. So he was like, what the heck is this? And he clicked on it. And the way that
I came up with Mariner Mojo, Sotomo obviously played a role. But I was like, I'm, I had made on
Facebook, different Facebook pages about the Mariners. I made like, Mariner's marks was what I,
what I had called it? Because I'm like, what the heck is like an M-M. I don't know.
Mariner and that's how Mariner Mojo came about.
So yeah, that's this kind of mystery.
The tails behind the diamond.
I'm rebranding the channel.
What really happened between D. Gordon and Jean Sakerreira.
Oh my gosh.
He's doing like full like exposés about like the dramas in the clubhouse.
Actually that's actually not a bad idea.
That's a good idea.
It's like,
you mysteries.
We just created a new series, boys.
Yeah.
but yeah so that's kind of how it came about so nice nice so what is your creative process like
is there a creative process because colby and i went on the couch gm a few weeks back and he
asked us what our creative process was like and we're like i don't know come downstairs
turn on the computer record is that the same for you guys or or do you actually have
have your stuff together unlike me i wouldn't say it's like we have our stuff together there's there's
definite moments where there's lulls in like the offseason for content that like you kind of have
to start scraping stuff together like you do like a specific video idea like i made tier lists of all
the a o west players and rank them what i think would be who's the best and then i was like well
nothing's really happening so let me do it again but with their actual fan graphs projected war i was
like screw it let's just do it again and those did fine like it's
not anything out of the ordinary that's like going to blow the channel out of the water.
And we have, when we first started, we were a little bit more, I think, in tune with the
ideas that we wanted to make.
Like, Colton was very high on the idea.
Like, we got to need, we need to make buckets for the videos in which we're making.
So, like, what videos kind of go into where?
Like player profiles, like player breakdowns.
Like, what are some of the other ones?
Like speculative videos, like talk about like free agents or trades.
and other stuff like that.
Right.
And I mean,
the big video that got the channel started
was Colton basically doing like a job boy breakdown
of an Angels Mariners game
that was the worst defensive inning in MLB history.
You know the one.
I remember, yeah, yeah.
I think we all do.
Yeah.
So I kind of joined a little bit after that
and, you know, rode the wave.
I said, hey, buddy,
I'm just going to, I'm going to leech off you for a second here.
And so there's other content ideas that are out there.
It's just during the off season,
it gets a little thin.
And so our podcast, the podcast,
Colton will get home from work on Sundays and we're just kind of like turn on
the cameras and he's like, so what are we talking about?
For like the first like five minutes, you're kind of like,
okay, so we'll talk about this, this is going on.
We can like piece it together and like have a little bit of an order.
But other than that, if it's solo videos,
it's more so just like whatever's kind of happening.
Right.
And that sounds a lot better than Colby and I's process.
Colby and I's process is, hey, Colby, you want to talk about this?
No.
No.
Do you want to talk about this?
No, that sucks.
Okay.
Well, your ideas was the emergency Samad Taylor podcast.
You know?
Yeah.
I mean, that's, you know, you end up doing emergency Samad Taylor podcast or emergency Trevor
Got podcast.
Yeah.
I mean, Colton made two, two videos about Tommy Lestella last off season, back to back.
The goods of the signing in the.
bad of the signing. Obviously the bad one
won out. Yeah.
Let's not disrespect the drip
king. Let me ask you a question, Ty. Let me turn it
around on you. All right. All right. How the
hell do you guys make five shows a week?
How do you do that? I don't know.
Like during the offseason, thankfully
they give us like a six week reprieve from doing five shows a week and we can just
do three shows a week. So at that point, we can be like, all right, here's a
mailbag Monday and we'll do fan fiction Friday and hopefully something happens in between.
If not, I guess we got to be creative and actually use our brains for the Wednesday show.
Yeah.
That's really it.
My conversation when Mariner Mojo continues in just a moment, but first, a reminder, this
episode of the Locked on Marr's podcast is brought to you by Fandul.
Happy Super Bowl to all who celebrate from Fandul, America's number one sportsbook.
If you like me, Super Bowl Sunday is all about scoring the best seat on the couch,
grabbing your favorite football snacks and placing some super bets.
I'm sure a lot of us Seahawks fans are going to be hate watching the 49ers and cheering on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
But the only thing I would love more than seeing the 49ers go home crying is winning some cold, hard cash on Fanduel.
Fanduel has so many ways for you to end the season with a W or two or three.
Not only can you bet on who will win Super Bowl 58, but Fandual also has bets for which players will score a touchdown.
how many points will be scored and so much more.
New customers can join today and get $200 in bonus bets

an official sportsbook partner of the NFL.
What are your main objectives when creating content?
Or just with the channel in general.
Ooh, that's a really good question.
Wow, that I wasn't expecting that, Ty.
You really hard hitting.
Main objectives.
I mean, I'm a professional journalist or I'm just cosplaying as a journalist, according to Mariners Reddit.
Listen.
All right.
You're just looking for the clout, Ty.
All right.
You just stop.
Chasing it.
Just need it.
Because the thing about me that everyone knows is that I want more followers on Twitter.
I want to engage with more people on Twitter.
Absolutely. That's exactly what I want.
More eyes, exactly.
I would love for more people to be in my replies telling me how much of an idiot I am.
That sounds great.
Sounds like what Ryan Divish wants.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't, Colton, you want to start?
Yeah, I mean, I think our main objectives, when it comes to just making content,
for Joe and I specifically, it's very much an outlet for talking Mariners baseball.
I mean, everybody needs to vent about this team in some way,
perform or just wants to talk about it. And for me, there were times where I literally felt so strongly
that I needed to talk about something. I was just writing things on a piece of paper. Never saw the light of day.
I would spend like classes. This is why I was so bad in school and like junior year. I was spending
classes just like writing out Mariners lineups in the off season. I'm like, oh, if they traded for this guy,
it would look like this. I had like a whole notebook full. And I'm like, I don't, I didn't have an
outlet. So I have an outlet specifically now to create something. And the fact that people are
interested enough to actually listen to it and like watch us. I think it's so cool. And like the, I think
Overall, the objective is to just make the Mariners and the community as heard as possible.
Like, if what we say somehow makes it to a wider, you know, like national baseball audience and like overall, all of America or somehow starts to hear about the Seattle Mariners for some reason, this team that no one ever talks about, then, you know, I think we did our job.
I, community building is something that is just the, probably the coolest aspect for me.
And like I was recognized at an Oakland game.
Shout out my guy.
Like shout out my guy, Roman.
Like I just unbelievable, I got recognized out of anybody in that stadium.
It was just cool.
I was just taking it back in that moment.
And being able to, like Colton saying, have an outlet.
Like I growing up wanted to be like a sports journalist.
Like I talked about my obsession with ESPN and Sports Center.
Like I respect Scott Ben Pelt.
so much.
Like I could listen to him talk sports all day.
Like big inspiration there, but it's just an outlet, a creative outlet.
And I just want more people to be obsessed with the team in the way that I feel like I am.
Just understand why we care about the team so much and how it can impact your day-to-day life and how choosing something like this to be passionate about, like can be fulfilling in the way of like, sure, it can break your heart.
heart like really quickly and be really tumultuous to deal with sometimes but having something be as
present in my life and also being able to share that with other people is just it's a very
fulfilling cycle so on the the you know sometimes it'll break your heart thing yeah for for us
you know we got to do a podcast no matter what yeah and we're fans of the team and it hurts it
are hurts some days.
ALDS game one having to do
a podcast like two hours after that
hurts. What about for you guys?
I mean, yeah, we've had, you know, we've had times
like that. We're just like, and thankfully,
you know, we don't necessarily have to put something out. I mean, obviously, you know,
we want to put something out. But it's like, we're not
necessarily in a similar situation where, you know, we have
overlords and whatnot. But, um, shout out to our corporate
overlords. Yeah. You just say what's with this?
No, we call them not to.
That's why I said.
I think that there were times,
especially towards the end of 2023,
where we were trying to put out something
every single game, basically,
whether that be a video or a short or what have you.
And, you know, it was getting to a point
where the comments were all negative,
you know, everything we're seeing on Twitter is negative.
And I mean, you guys get it all the time, too,
just the comments, man.
They will rip you apart.
Oh, yeah.
And they'll take out their frustration about the team
on you know the people that they're watching it happens and you know and if you're not as reactionary
if you don't match their their frustration their anger like something's wrong with you right you're a boot
liquor tie your boot liquor stop having john stanton pay you to sell tickets that's right that's right
my pockets are fat from john stats yeah so i mean it's just it's rough man there are there are some
games where it's just like my god i don't even want to go out there and sit in front of that stupid
camera and talk about what I just watched.
Yeah.
Because like I, I don't even know how to put into words what I just saw.
So I don't know.
And I don't know how like, for example, how you do it because you're again,
three hours ahead.
So it's like, you've got to go to bed, man.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sometimes sometimes I'll be really salty.
People are like, why is Ty so like mad right now?
And I'm like, think about it.
I'm lucky, bro.
I won't go to bed.
It's 3 a.m.
And I just watched the Mariners just strike out three times in a row with the bases loaded and no one
out.
It's the nationals, the angels or whatever.
Happened to both of those teams.
Yeah, it did.
Last year.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anywho, let's talk about this baseball team.
Great transition.
So good.
What did you guys think about this off season?
Because the first couple of months were a big ol' oopsie.
We're on the climb.
And now we're so back.
So we could not be more back than we are right now.
So what do you think?
Joe?
I, you know, I say it a lot, I think during live streams.
That's a place where you can kind of catch a more organic reaction as well.
Like I have no reason to not support the team in my head.
Like for me, like I am, I will support like they could have started the season with Luis
serious and Josh Rojas at third and second.
And I've been like, let's go, boys.
Like, let's go get them.
And I just because that's how I am as a fan.
And that is, you know, not necessarily what everyone else agrees with.
And that's okay.
Boot liquor.
People still want Matt Chapman to be signed.
For some apparent reason, we want to give $16 or $18 million to Matt Chapman.
Hey, anyone who wants to sign Matt Chapman, go to Fangraphs.com, go to game logs, set the date from May 1st to the end of the season.
and let me know if you still want to sign Matt Chapman and just cry yeah I think Matt Chapman
catches strays on the show deserved deserved yeah I wanted to just have this level of
understanding like I will be optimistic as much as I can and for the offseason itself like sure
bad starts I probably let out the most vulgar moments of myself on this channel or I'm sorry
like, whoa, on our channel.
Sorry, sorry, it's a takeover.
This is a hostile takeover.
We outnumber you right now, okay?
When Kelnik got traded, we went live, and, I mean, we got comments, like, replies, like, the next day, like, you guys shouldn't swear this much.
It's like, okay, I was pissed.
That was my guy.
That was my dude.
I loved Jared Kellenen.
Watch your tone.
Yeah.
Be careful really quickly, okay.
I might have to unsubscribe from you.
Oh, no.
Gun to my head.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
And even after that, I was like, okay, they will pull it back somehow.
There's still a light at the end of the tunnel, even if it is being driven by Luis Arias and Joshua Ravos.
Like, there's something there.
Okay.
Right.
And so now that we're so back.
So back.
More back than we've ever been.
I feel kind of.
It was once to pover, but now we're so back.
So back.
I just, it's, it is a complete 180 for me of how the moves have gone.
And regardless of how optimistic I would have been, of course, I'm happier now than my dog's
there.
I'm sorry.
I'm happier now than I was, say, before we signed Mitch Garver, like on Christmas Eve, the team
was in shambles before Christmas Eve.
And then along came Mitch Garber and everything kind of started to turn a new leaf after that.
And so, you know, the people were saying,
like the first half of the off season give it an F yeah you probably should because it was not good
and then the second half you know totally redeemed yourself jerry and justin banger after banger
after banger after banger after banger won't stop yeah uh and maybe they're still not done who knows
dude like i we thought for content for content please don't be done yeah for the love of god
the love of the content please uh all right what what does your dog think about the off season
your dog's thoughts on the off season
come here
he asked the dog before he asked me
that's crazy my favorite thing
that Colton does on I'm sorry I'm sorry
there's a dog now like you guys don't matter
about the team
oh she said great she said
they're going to win 117 games
there we go it's the perfect
off season couldn't have gone any better
couldn't have drum it up here first yeah she said it
all right Colton I guess we
want to hear from you too yeah thank you so
much for asking Ty I really appreciate
That's that all the time.
I think that at the start of this off season, I've normally been pretty optimistic about this team throughout the time of making Mariner Mojo or creating videos for Mariner Mojo.
And this might have been the start of this off season.
It might have been like the lowest I have felt in terms of content, in terms of just about this team in general.
You know, the 54% comment, the Kellynick stuff, the Gino, you know, Gino trade, whatnot.
There were moments during this off season where I said this, I actually agreed with,
95% of what all of our comments are, and that is that this is a 500 team.
Like I agree.
I'm like, yeah, you know what?
Maybe if this is, if Luis Sirius and Josh Rojas are out there, if we're sending
Dom Canzonas and everyday starter, I don't know, Sam Haggerton and Wrightfield, this is a
500 team at best.
And it truly for a while there did not feel like they were going to pull it back out because
and you guys said it yourselves, like the only way to redeem yourself after that 54%
comment was to go out there and smash the off season.
And they did.
in the end they did this team is better today than it was the end of 2023 there is no doubt about that in my mind
and joe and i made a uh in our podcast the other day said this team might be better than the team that
broke the drought yeah do you agree with that yeah yeah the the rotation is better the bullpen
will see but i mean that three had a monster yeah right oh my god
gross that's that's by the way that's my favorite trade that jerry's made in the last like two years
Yeah, like since the Cassio trade.
That is a nuts trade.
Nuts trade.
And then the, what I love the most about the position player group is just how many options they have, right?
They're not as good as the Asher's.
They're not as good as the Rangers on that regard.
But the pitching staff is the great equalizer on that front.
So I still think that they can definitely compete with those teams and overtake those teams for sure.
But at the very least, this position player group has.
multiple levers that Scott's service can pull, right?
Where you're not forcing Gino Svarez to play 162 games.
You're not forcing Tay Oscar Hernandez to play 161 games.
You're not doing any of that because you don't trust your bench.
And really, outside of Domcan zone,
they're not going to be asking anyone in that position player group
to be something or do something that they've never been or done before.
Right?
Luis Ria, like even with Luis Erez,
You're just asking him to be that everyday player that he was for back-to-back seasons just a year ago.
Yeah, I completely agree with that.
I think that, you know, the idea that Luke Rayleigh can go play first base if he has to.
You know what I mean?
Let's say Ty gets hurt or whatever.
Luke Rayley can go play first base in a pinch.
I mean, Dom Canzone can then go out to left field.
Let's say, you know, unfortunately Mitch Hanager does end up getting hurt.
You know, you can put Dom Canzone out there in right field.
Joseph Bauer went out, he said, because he's in California.
So, you know.
Okay.
Yeah.
But yeah, I think that
So we're just going to have this green space underneath us.
No big deal.
It looks better.
It looks better, honestly, than when Joe is there.
He's funny looking.
Now we can just rip into him.
Yeah, I hate that guy.
You can't do anything.
Yeah, he's the worst.
But, you know, I think you're completely right.
I think that being able to, I mean,
if you need to have Josh Rojas go play third,
it's not going to be the end of the world.
And same thing with Luis Eure is playing second base.
I think that there are so many more options than,
whereas last year you had to put like Sam Haggurty
and Dylan Moore at first base.
And those were some of the most pitiful things I've ever seen in my life.
So it's like there are there are options now to go play first base if tie gets hurt or even
even if JP gets hurt.
I mean, I'm not afraid to have, you know, some of the guys on this bench over there as well.
All right.
So through the magic of video editing or audio editing if you're just listening to the podcast,
uh, it's just cold and I now got a new spicy little background up here.
It's looking good.
looking clean.
You can see more of us.
You can see more of Colton, most importantly.
We got rid of Joe.
He's ugly.
Right.
So we got to,
we're going to get through a few more questions.
I try to get Colby on here.
I tried to text Colby.
I even called Colby.
Left him a wonderful voicemail that definitely did not include any insults whatsoever.
But he decided to ignore me.
And more importantly, ignore Colton.
Yeah.
So I'm heartbroken personally.
It's fine, Goldie, whatever.
The, uh, the, the, the, the, the mariner mojo locked on era's relationship has been, uh, shattered
hurt.
Truly.
It's, yeah, it's, yeah, it's been hurt today.
Uh, okay.
So we, we were talking before Joe's internet decided to, uh, mess up everyone's lives.
Today go, Joe.
Right.
Way to, we did not foresee that happening.
Um, we were talking about this ball club.
So we talked about what your thoughts were on the off season.
Now, what are your expectations?
and do you have any predictions?
I think that this team, my expectation is wholeheartedly,
especially with this pitching staff,
is they're going to compete for the division,
especially if we don't see any more moves on like the Rangers bullpen front
or, you know, I mean, even the Astros and their rotations, you know,
decent.
They added Hater, of course, the back end of that bullpen as well.
But overall, I still think I'd take the Mariners pitching staff as a whole
over any other team in this division.
And like you said earlier, the offense,
the Astros are probably better offensively.
I think the Mariners are a more complete team,
one through nine, then a lot of people are giving them credit for.
But the regression possibilities with Luke Rayleigh, for example, it's there.
But I think that overall this Mariners team is a 90 plus win team as it stands right now.
And of course, you know, a lot of things that go wrong.
We talked a little bit earlier about the possible injury problems and whatnot.
And that's always there.
But this team, it does feel like it's a little bit more with, you know, the Mitch Hanigers,
the Mitch Garbers, you know, with whatever injury Gregory Santos is dealing with his elbow
lower shoulder or whatever it was.
I think that we look at this team as it stands today,
if everything goes right, which it hardly ever does,
but if everything goes right,
this is a 90 plus win team.
As for predictions,
I mean,
if I'm going to make a bowl prediction,
I'm just going to say they're going to win the division.
But if I had to come up with something a little bit spicier,
let's see,
who's going to be an all-star?
It's an all-star name, who cares?
But I'm going to say that,
I'm going to say that Luis Urius is an all-star in 20,
24 thoughts he takes over the third base position you might have just won some points with uh one mr
colby pat node oh i take it back then never yeah yeah say say dillan more is going to be an all-star
dylan more will be an all-star for the seattle mod that just feels wrong no no it feels so good
it feels so good it feels good it feels good yeah demo for all-star it's gonna go on let's start
the campaign now why not um we do this thing called flagwagon
week you might be familiar
planting the flag yep yeah yeah we
we plan our flag and five
players each
I'm gonna allow you to plant a flag
and a player
before the season who are you rocking with
on this team so for those of you
that don't know when we were at Sotomojo
we did this as well and I think I planted
mine if I remember correctly in Edwin
Diaz I think
which might have been the year that he
broke the record for saves with the
Mariners if I remember correct I could be very wrong
But this year, 24, I mean, everyone's going to say Dom-Can zone.
You know, it's going to be like a big surprise guy.
So I don't want to say Dom-Can zone.
I think that I can't say Luis Urius now.
Thanks a lot, Colby.
I think that Luke Rayleigh is a guy that I'm going to play in my flag in,
that he is going to not regress as much as everyone thinks he's going to.
He's going to hit 30 plus over the right field wall at Teamable Park.
Luke Rayley's my guy.
All right.
pulled that out out of you know somewhere but somewhere yeah somewhere we can't say
Luke Rayleigh's gonna he's gonna hit 280 randomly put up like a 340 OBP with 30 homers yep
that's what's happened he's gonna be all-star fringe MVP candidate yeah yeah yeah so I was also
gonna ask you your favorite merit his moment but I think we can all guess what that is the
the perfect game yeah I you know I actually might go with Cal's walk-on
off last year. Or I'm sorry in 2022.
Because that one, I mean, I was there
Can't go wrong with that. Right. Yeah. Like,
I was there and like I was literally in tears.
Like I was there with my dad and we were just watching the game and it was just
such an incredible and the history. Obviously, you know, Felix 34th perfect game.
Or what, no, not 34th, 23rd, 34th. It was 34 years of the Mariners.
Right. I mean. Something like that.
Yeah. Yeah. 34. 34. We get it. Yeah. I see the visual.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that moment.
was super cool, obviously the perfect game, but the one that literally brought me to tears.
Wow.
Look, look who it is.
Oh, my God.
Look who it is.
Look who finally decided to show up right at the end, right at the end.
What do you mean finally?
You texted me like two minutes ago.
Two minutes ago.
Colton, when did I send him that, or when did I call him?
We were probably about 25 to 30 minutes ago now.
Yeah.
We had a whole bunch of.
bonding experience without you, Colby, in between.
Joe, Joe's internet
went out and then we had to improvise.
And then, yeah, I have
a lot to edit. I'm just going to say that.
There's going to be so many edits in this episode,
guys. So many edits. So many edits.
Colby, do you have anything for Colton?
Why are we your biggest inspiration?
That's actually, you know what's funny, Colby? It's actually
kind of true. I know. I know, you know.
I'm a very inspiring person.
you're affable all right you're
very I am I'm most certainly
affable I think that
so obviously working with you guys
at Soto Mojo you know I was like these guys are cool
and then I was list I was a CTZ patron
you know back in the day and I was like this is
the creative outlet for people that I respect
you know I'm listening to these guys do this
and you guys are quite literally the cutting edge
the leading YouTube channel when it comes to
Mariners content I mean tie
compliment Colby take it yeah shut up
Kobe all right tie you're
voice has been in two Mariners videos
you know what I mean?
Three three three three who's counting
Oh how does that go look up
I might have to go look back at the Luis Castillo
video he might be in that one too I just can't remember
I don't think so no I was the the
Julio video the Julio rookie of the year video
Oh
That's what I didn't know
The Garver video and the Polanco video
Yeah I think that's at the top
Yeah that's so wild man
I mean like come on you know and who was not
involved in any of those videos.
You know, like I said, you just, you know, you can't teach taste.
So whoever's running that account clearly.
Or maybe it's just because, you know, they're clicking on the video in the first five seconds.
I'm like, the mirrors have traded for so-and-so and, hey, we got our clip out of the video.
Your retention just goes, boo.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Suddenly there's like a little dot on the corner of Edgar and Dave that only listens for about five seconds.
Well, Colton, thank you so much for coming through.
And thank you to Joe, send him my best.
Send his internet my best or his power, my best.
We got the full Lockdown Airs experience.

eclipse us on the subscriber account. I don't know about all that. I mean, you guys are,
you know, you guys are the goal. You're going to have to offer up some more cards.
Sure, why not? I carry the entire show on my back. I might as well to give away my stuff too.
Right, right. And Colby, thank you for gracing us with your presence.
and we'll see if I even make the final cut.
Just for that, you're not going to.
I appreciate you guys having us on.
