It's the Mariners Postcast. The game's still going on, but it's over because the A's just scored their seventh run. It's 7 to 4.

And the way the Mariners are battling with runners in the scoring position tonight, tells me that this game is completely done. And the fact that the Mariners, the fact that I feel that way, while the Mariners are playing against the worst bullpen in baseball, the worst bullpen in baseball is just absolutely pathetic. And yes, I took the Boston series off, just schedule-wise with my family and work and stuff like that. it's a little tough to go live during that part of the day.

So I apologize that I missed you guys in the last three games. And I also apologize that apparently me not going live is what made this team be able to hit a baseball. Because as soon as I come back and they come back to Seattle, welcome back. It looks like absolute doo-doo once again. And this is why for the longest time, I was like, I'm not even looking at the schedule. I don't care who they're playing against. The Mariners are just not a good baseball team. Even with the two of the last three series, right,

winning the Boston series, losing the Toronto series, but then winning the Philly series, winning the Cubs series. That's three good series wins for the Mariners. But that tells me even more that it's not who the opponents are, that the Mariners' record is where it's at right now. That is just not where the problem lies. And it's showing itself once again today. One of the worst teams in baseball.

Coming to town, not only one of the worst teams in baseball, but a team that is decimated by injuries more than any other team in baseball has every right just to fold and roll over and just not even show up. And it's the Mariners that are the team that's, not showing up. And it's just like, really? This is what we're looking like? I just, I can't deal with it anymore, guys.

So, um, this is the Mariners Postcast. Again, um, full disclosure. I'm going live at the, um, in the top of the ninth inning after the, uh, the A's score their seventh run.

To make it seven to four, I will update, um, uh, you know, the score once things kind of get rolling here, but I don't expect. much different. Looks like that's the end of the top of the ninth inning. The Mariners have one last chance to score three runs, but guys, they've had multiple opportunities today, whether it was in the

second inning where they left two guys on base, whether it was in, I believe it was the fifth inning, sorry, sixth inning where they left multiple guys on base. the seventh inning where they left multiple guys on base, and then in the eighth inning as well. It's just so many times where the Mariners fail to get a good hit in a big situation. And, you know, RISP, I think, can get definitely blown out of proportion because it just sometimes it's bad luck. like you have, you know, good at bats, good matchups when you have no one on base or

run or on first or stuff like that and you're leading off an inning and then it just happens to not be the case later. But when it happens over the course of an entire season like it has for this Mariners team, there's something else that goes with it. And it's just, it's a lack of plate awareness. I won't even say plate discipline because that specifically is talking about, you know, what pitches you're swinging at versus what. what pitches you're taking. There's a lack of situational awareness, I'll say, with this, the team itself,

but specifically on the offensive side of the ball. Because it just doesn't seem like there's any change in approach when there's guys on base in different situations. And I'm not saying they should bunt every single time. You know me. I'm not advocating for that. But you've got to do something different, man. Knowing what situation you're in

and knowing what the pitcher is throwing at you, and knowing what he will, you know, be undoubtedly looking for. And it looks like they were kind of coming around to that at the beginning part of this game, especially in that first inning when they scored the three runs, because, you know, who they were facing today for the athletics, I forget his name. I probably should know that. Perkins, that's right.

He couldn't find the strike zone for the life of him. And it looked like they were being extra patient the first thing which is great. But then the next couple of things, they can't get anything going. And even when they do get a couple guys on base, they just become ultra-aggressive, way too fast. And it's just a team that's hurting themselves more than anything else. And that's why it doesn't matter who they're playing against. Full circle here. It doesn't matter. That's the offensive side of the ball. I kind of went backwards.

Normally we start with a start. Kate Anderson wasn't good today. unfortunately this is kind of was the downside of his profile as a player coming up was he's never going to have the wipe away fastball his stuff isn't going to absolutely dominate the thing that I wasn't expecting to see

was the fact that his command has really waned after that first start his first start his command looked great he could throw every pitch in every location for strikes or for swing and miss. And in this situation, it just doesn't seem like he's commanding every pitch now. It seems like he knows his fastball

is not good enough to blow it by hitters. So he tries to sneak it in there a couple times just to show it. He's not throwing it with conviction. And then that makes him really overthrow the curveball and slider, which at times was really good. But when he hangs it, man, it's bad. And the A's, look, you got to give him credit. They have done a good job almost all year long on the offensive side of the ball.

I mean, whoever they throw up there, whether it's, you know, Lawrence Butler, who's gotten better as of late. Zach Gellov's had a good year. They just have a bunch of guys. And they still show much better situational awareness on the offensive side. of the ball than the Mariners do. So just yikes. 14 left on base for the Seattle Mariners.

It's 7-4 in the bottom of the 9th. We're still waiting on the final out. There's a couple instances in this game that we'll get to in the second half of the show. I'm not even instances. I'm talking players that are not doing their job right now. Let's talk about that in the second half of the show. After a tough one tonight, yes, I had to say it.

This is my surprised face, by the way.

So it's over. They lose the first game of the A series, and it's just a completely missed opportunity because this game was absolutely there to be won. Just, yeah, it's, this is, this is exactly why we can't have nice things, guys. Because every time it feels like I'm ready to quit on the Mariners, they end up having a good series like they did in Boston. And then every time I have any sort of ounce of hope,

they do what they did today to me. And that's been one of the more frustrating parts of this season was the fact that, you know, this team can't choose what it wants to be. And it feels like they can just, they think that they can just show up every single night and play and win more often than not and get to the playoffs. And guys, that's just not the case anymore. Maybe that would be if you had played much better in the beginning part of the season, but we're not at that point right now.

18 strikeouts for your Seattle Mariners. The only person who didn't strike out tonight was J.P. Crawford. He walked three times. So good for him. He'll be my unsung hero for the evening. My unsung villain is going to be Josh Naylor. Oh, my God. How many awful piss poor at bats in big situations can you have in one game,

let alone one season? That dude is, I don't know, man. I can't tell if it's just a lack of caring after getting paid or if it's a something's weird or off with his swing. I can't tell if there's an injury related there. He's had some issues with his wrist, but man alive, the amount of one pitch instantly swinging ground balls

for the slowest guy in baseball that that guy puts out there is just, it's extremely frustrating. Not to mention he had two Ks as well tonight. So, Cal Raleigh does get a hit. He does get an RBI, but he also strikes out twice. He increases his OPS to 645 on the year. Canzone was okay. Randy was okay.

Julio was okay. Cole Young was good, two hits today for him, but he also had three Ks. So it's kind of the positive and negative to him. Las Montez gets the third RBI. but then strikes out three times after that. Good for Brock Rodden after 2Ks and it looked like it was going to be another disastrous night offensively. I didn't even realize this.

Brock Rodden, that was his first hit in Team Mobile Park since being called up so you can tell how much he's struggled. Taylor Ward comes in and ends the game in Taylor Ward fashion. Just basically the reincarnation of Robb R. F. Snyder. Yeah, I'm done talking about this offense. It's just not

good enough. Bullpen wasn't good either. I mean, Kate Anderson wasn't great. Bullpen was probably worse. Carlos Vargas gave up a home run, then hits a guy, then Dan Wilson gets tossed because he didn't realize what a warning means.

I get it. You're a little frustrated because there was no reason that, there was no way Vargas was throwing that intentionally, so he just comes out to talk and instantly gets tossed. Yeah, that very much how this season has gone. Spire was good. Bizarro was nice.

not once again gave up another run and Hobie Milner gave up the other run as well. So the Mariners lose 7 to 4 to the athletics of who knows where, Sacramento, Oakland, Vegas, who knows. And everyone that was talking up the easy schedule for the Mariners doesn't realize that this team is one of those bad teams in the easy part of the schedule. The A's are saying the same thing, hey, maybe we can get a couple wins against the They're playing really bad baseball right now. But yeah, man, it's getting, it's getting close to the end of the season.

And I'm, I'm getting really tired of saying the same freaking things over and over and over again. That's why my thoughts have been a little all across the board tonight. It's just extremely frustrating. I'm so tired of having the same postcast over and over and over again. But we go again tomorrow. As I look at the probable pitchers, it's a 710 first pitch tomorrow. I think it's one of the last fireworks. nights. So another opportunity for John Stanton to earn some money. It is a TBD. TBD is probably

going to be a really good pitcher against the Mariners because everyone is against Logan Gilbert. In all seriousness, I expect Logan to shove tomorrow. So maybe the Mariners can't get a dub in this series. But it's just not good enough. Not good enough from the Mariners. And it was, yes, a tough one tonight.
