Starting point is 00:00:04 This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the locked on podcast network, your team every day. Let me make sure I have my mic close enough here. Boo! Boo! Boo! This team sucks.
Starting point is 00:00:34 It's just so bad. But it's also fitting that they're celebrating their 50th anniversary this weekend. in very mariner fashion when they get what, two hits, three hits, excuse me, four hits. One run, the Julio home run. I'm not going to call it a Richie Sexton home run because it made it a one run game,
Starting point is 00:00:55 and if anyone got on base in front of him, it would have tied the game, but no one could do that. Just, just pathetic. And I was in the building tonight. I went for the first like five or six innings about, It was just quick side note. I went and said hi to a bunch of people that I hadn't really seen either ever or in a long time.
Starting point is 00:01:20 And it was great to kind of get in touch with the Mariners community, whether it's a content creator, you know, whoever, the media member, whoever. It was great to see everyone. And it distracted me from the pathetic baseball that is being played by this group right now. and I'm honestly out of superlatives for describing this team. I'm not going to say the same thing every night. I really am not. But when your eight hole hitter, Cal Raleigh, is as bad as he is. That's reason one.
Starting point is 00:01:57 When any chance you get, you just, yeah, it's just pathetic at bats. I'm starting to really question the, we've talked about the Dan Wilson stuff before. and of course I still think he should be fired and it should have been a long time ago we've talked about teams that have fired their manager and have had turnarounds two of them are well on their way to becoming World Series contenders
Starting point is 00:02:23 but the Kevin Sites are in Edgar Martinez aspect should not be denied because we gave them all the credit in the world for this team and how they performed offensively last year then we need to give them the the blame for what's going on this year. You can't have it both ways.
Starting point is 00:02:48 You can definitely give them the credit for the upper echelon offense that the Mariners had last year, then you need to give them the blame for what's going on this year because these at-bats are just pitiful, pathetic, terrible approach. the whole control the zone. I know it was a meme for a long time with the Mariner fans,
Starting point is 00:03:15 with the online interactions. I get that, but they leaned into that. That was their 2022 mantra offensively. That has gone just completely by the wayside. It's not even that. It's like there should be some sort of, I feel like they're still at this point in the season.
Starting point is 00:03:35 They think they're still at this point. point in the season where, okay, you know, we still have enough time. We need to get back into things. Be aggressive. You know, if we run into a couple, we'll start to get some confidence and then we'll be going again. But that's just, we're past that point, guys. It's August 7th. There's less than two months left in the season. You're now 56 and 61 after a 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay race. And look, the raise were good. Drew Raspison's been a fantastic pitcher all year long.
Starting point is 00:04:09 You got to give him credit where credit is due. Seven innings pitch, eight Ks, two walks, no one runs. He did a good job today. And I'm not saying that, you know, he hasn't done this all year. But we've just seen this far too often from Mariners hitters to the point where it's, where did all this supposed hitting strategy go that people were praising last year? Where did it go? where's where's the coaching to get these guys out of this funk i'm i'm so close to swearing i
Starting point is 00:04:42 i promise you i won't but like there just has to be some sort of accountability here right and it's just not it's not happening um and it sucks that we're having this celebratory weekend where we're so we're trying to celebrate a franchise that has never been to the world series the only franchise that has never been to the World Series. And we're celebrating the 50 years of this franchise. And look, I'm a Mariner fan first and foremost before anything. I'm a Mariner fan before a postcast host. I'm a Mariner fan, you know, before a media member, before a whatever.
Starting point is 00:05:23 That's the first thing ever was, right? One of the first things ever was. I won my first Mariner game when I was four years old in 2001 season. So that's my first, like, I want them to succeed. I'm not in the position where I'm rooting against them. I'm rooting for them to lose this. That's not, but that's not what's happening here. But at some point, there has to be some sort of accountability in terms of whether it's
Starting point is 00:05:48 players, whether it's the manager, whether it's the front office, whether it's ownership. Someone has to take the fall for what's going on. Instead of just saying we need to be better in firing your third string hitting coach, thinking that would change the entire seat. season around. Someone has to take the fall for what's going on. Even if they're not at fault, look, I don't think Dan Wilson is 100% at fault. I don't even think he probably isn't even the majority at fault. But someone needs to be sent a message that this team is not good enough and it sucks.
Starting point is 00:06:29 And he's not the manager you want when you're going through this sort of situation. because you just kind of expect the numbers to regress back to the mean, so to speak. Just expecting it to finally be the way that you expect it to be and want it to be. And what we all thought it would be going into this season. We expected this team to be an AOS champion. We expected them to be a World Series contender, a playoff team, all that stuff. But this is not the man you need at the helm when those things aren't going. your way. There are so many other people that you would rather have in this situation than Dan
Starting point is 00:07:09 Wilson. So game itself tonight, I'm going to be completely honest because I was at the game. I wasn't watching every single out like I normally do. I was enjoying the company of Ty and Colby and all the guys that we met today. It was great to meet them. And, you know, for a lot of, and you guys can mention this as well because I met a few listeners as well. So it's great to see you guys and I know we have these interactions through social media, through YouTube, through podcast listening and all that stuff, but seeing
Starting point is 00:07:42 some of you guys in person and telling you how much you support the channel, how much you support the podcast, how much you are Mariner fans and how much you relate to all this stuff is fantastic. That was one of my things that I was really, really happy about
Starting point is 00:07:58 and excited about after spending a few innings at the ballpark. you know, today, which was really cool, honestly. Like, take aside the way the team is playing right now. It was really, really cool. And then I came home and watched the last three innings of this game. And it just destroyed my mood after everything that happened today,
Starting point is 00:08:18 after all the positivity that was built, it absolutely just destroyed my mood. And I'm sorry that that's the way it has to be. And I'm a Mariner fan, but I feel sorry for every single other Mariner fan as well, based off how much we're suffering and how we can't have nice things. Maybe there is some sort of curse on this franchise. I'm not that type of guy, but maybe there is. Let's come back.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Let's try and think of some positives as we look forward to the weekend. Maybe some thoughts on the 50th anniversary celebration, because I'm tired of saying the same crap every single day about this team and how they're terrible and they can't hit. Logan Gilbert was okay tonight. It was actually really good. Excuse me. He had two mistakes, two solo homeruns.
Starting point is 00:09:02 You should be able to pick him up in that situation. But of course, the Mariners don't do that. They suck. They are terrible. So they're just not a playoff baseball team. I mean, I get it. They're only a few games out and they can still go on a run. And all that stuff is true.
Starting point is 00:09:17 But they're not a playoff baseball team. Period. End of story. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back and discuss more on the Mariners Postcast. A big thank you to our friends at Amazon for this limited break with back to school season. Spend less on your kids with Amazon. We all know how.
Starting point is 00:09:37 crazy the back to school shopping experience can be. It starts with a few items on the list. And then suddenly you're shopping for supplies, clothes, lunch gear, tech and about 10 other things you didn't see coming. It adds up fast. When it's 9 p.m. the night before school starts and somebody suddenly remembers they need folders, notebooks, markers, and apparently 12 other things that nobody mentioned until now. Nothing gets the heart rate up quite like emergency school shopping. I'm convinced. Primes deliver tomorrow before 7 a.m. feature. was created exclusively for parents in this moment. I thankfully have not experienced that heart rate race just yet,
Starting point is 00:10:17 but I'm a few years away from getting to that point. My five-month-old is, almost six-month-old is playing with his grandmother right now. So very exciting moments now, but I cannot imagine what last second school shopping would be like without Amazon. So remember, with Amazon's low back-to-school prices, just spend less on your kids. because every dollar you don't spend on them is a dollar you haven't spent on them.
Starting point is 00:10:43 Shop back to school at Amazon and spend less on your kids. Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast. My name's Anderson Hurst. Mariners lose this one two to one. I'm going to be completely honest. I'm not going out by out box score or any of that stuff. We've talked about it too many times this year, guys. I mean, you get four hits.
Starting point is 00:11:07 You get a home run from Julio in the ninth inning that looked like, It may be an opportunity to spark this team, but then Josh Nader has probably one of the worst at bats of the season, especially considering the circumstances where he watches strike three. That's another huge reason why you are where you're at right now. Of all the people you choose to give large contracts to into their 30s that you could have and you chose not to, that's the guy that you choose. And look, I was as happy about the signing in the off season.
Starting point is 00:11:42 as most people were. And I was happy with what he gave this team down the stretch last year. Just based off of your lack of other options at first base, I thought that was the right move. But again, I have the ability to look hindsight now and say,
Starting point is 00:11:59 that's the guy that you're paying. Really? Really? He looks like he couldn't give a rats. You know what after getting paid. I'm going to be completely honest with you. Of all the people, that could player-wise have the ability to jolt this team moving forward,
Starting point is 00:12:19 he would be one of the first ones on my list. And you see none of that from him, let alone actually taking responsibility to be a leader on this team and exerting that role upon younger players. He's not even doing that himself at this point, right? He's just, he's either A, swinging at everything and grounding everything, right he hasn't hit a home run since june 8th i believe it was um whoever hits a home run tonight at the alumni home run derby which by the way excellent timing on on the entire 50th anniversary
Starting point is 00:12:56 stuff whoever hits a home run tonight at team mobile park will have hit a home run at team mobile park more recently than josh freaking nailer you're starting first baseman so that's fun um cal raleigh probably should but can't because he's playing so terribly himself right now. Julio could, but it's not his personality. He's always going to be the kind of upbeat, let's go, rah, raw guy, which you need those guys in the clubhouse. Pitchers are weird anyway. I don't know, man. There's just, the mental makeup of this team is weak and their front runners. They play really well when they're playing well. That's obvious point is obvious, as Chris Crawford would say. But when things aren't going well, it seems like they don't have the
Starting point is 00:13:42 type of guys to drag them out of that, right? So there's just none of that. It is cool. I'm going to sidetrack a little bit here. It is cool to see a lot of the legends come into town. My favorite mariner of all time is Ahi Henio Suarez. I'm just going to say it right now. We had a little thing on KJR today with the Ian Frenas show. Who's your favorite mariner?
Starting point is 00:14:03 Who's your least favorite mariner? I'm not going to go least favorite because I've had enough negative crap tonight with this team. I'm going to go my favorite mariner to Aahehani Oswares. And the reason why is because I was too young. I wasn't even born yet in 1995 when the double happened with Edgar Martinez. I was still really too young, even though the first year I went to a Mariners game was 2001. I was really too young to experience that team to its full capacity. My first real Mariners kind of full-on experience was like the early 2010s when Felix was in his prime.
Starting point is 00:14:37 And that's why he's my second favorite mariner, by the way, Felix Hernandez, who threw out the first. pitch tonight. Great to see him. I mean, just that is who you want representing your organization. Great guy. He was on the broadcast tonight. Just a perfect encapsulation of what makes a mariner a mariner, right? I'm sad that he never got the chance to pitch the playoffs for this team because I felt he had like he could have been dominant. He could have absolutely carried this team if they needed it.
Starting point is 00:15:01 They just were a couple opportunities, a couple out short of getting him to that point. But my favorite mariner of all times, Zayuhenio Suarez, mainly because of the moment, but also because I was old enough at that point that kind of the 2020s Mariners, I was lucky enough to be around the clubhouse a lot. And it kind of gives you a glimpse into who they are as people. And you see the kind of interactions with these players. And he was someone who was always incredibly gracious with the media, would say hi to you every single time.
Starting point is 00:15:32 He knew everyone's name. I wasn't someone who went to every single game. I went as frequently as I could. but he would say hi to you. He would kind of go out of his way to welcome you and to kind of joke around with you as well. And you could see that it really made, it was a positive effect with the Mariners.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Not just that, but the Gino home running game five of the ALCS last year is my version of the double. I'm sad that it didn't go on to win a series. I didn't go on to take the Mariners to the World Series. But at that moment in time, it felt like that was, That was my emotion coming out.
Starting point is 00:16:09 And everyone who watched the postcast that night saw it, right? It felt like that was the moment that I had been waiting for as a Mariner fan for my entire life. So that's why Ehuyenio Suarez is my favorite mariner. Please comment, live comment, YouTube comment, however you want to. Mention your favorite mariner in the chat and why they're your favorite mariner. As frustrating as this team is in 2026, we could still appreciate 50 years of this God-forsaken franchise. but be happy they're here because there's lots of opportunities
Starting point is 00:16:38 where they couldn't be looking across the street at the Sonics right now. So, mention your favorite mariner, why they're your favorite mariner, and continue to try and take the positives out of each of these awful
Starting point is 00:16:55 games that we're watching with this current team, but also go and realize that this weekend is more than just the games itself. Yes, the timing sucks. and we can be mad about spending money and we can be mad about the fact that this team doesn't seem to care at this point in time
Starting point is 00:17:14 and that they're the only team that hasn't been to the World Series and that sucks as a sports fan. But we can also appreciate the people who have been here in the past. So please do that. I urge you to do that. But also voice your frustration and don't feel bad for doing that as well. So we'll talk to you after the game tomorrow. It's the whole anniversary celebration tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:17:37 So it should be a little bit later. I think it'll start around 650 in terms of first pitch time. We'll see if that actually is on time. I'll be live after the game. Hopefully we're talking about a Mariner win. But enjoy the weekend, guys. It was great. For those of you who are watching who I saw today,
Starting point is 00:17:53 a fantastic way to kick it off. Unfortunately, the team that went on the field today wasn't up to the task. So we'll talk to you guys after the game tomorrow. Go Mariners. Be back.
