This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
You know, if this was just a visual component, if it was just video,
you would just see me shaking my head for the next 15 minutes.
I might just do it anyway.
Mariners lose one to nothing to the Los Angeles Angels.
They have split the first two games of a three-game series.
They will go for a series win tomorrow.
My name is Chris Crawford.
Normally I'm joined by Anders Hurst.
Anders has to cover the bad hockey team right now.
I get to cover the baseball team that frustrates the ever-loving crap out of me.
For those new, this is the Mariners Postcast.
We go live after every single Seattle Mariner game, whether it's fun or not.
And I'm just going to be 100% honest with you, tonight's not fun.
because we have to talk about a wasted starting performance,
one of the luckiest starting performances I've seen from a pitching staff in a long time,
one of the worst defensive players in all of baseball robbing three home runs
and some really bad offense in between.
Once again, my name is Chris Crawford.
We always start with the start.
And we will start with Emerson Hancock.
Sorry, Emerson.
and oh, you deserved so much better than this.
You were so much to get a loss is, you know,
it's one of those reasons why the win-loss stat isn't taken seriously anymore.
And I saw somebody bring up, a couple of people now bring up that this looked like a Felix type of start.
Wasn't quite as dominant as a Felix start, but the results the same thing.
And I'll be honest, the first inning was ugly.
He only gives up the one run.
He gives up a solo homer to Zach Nito, really good baseball player.
and of course it comes happening after the Angels Rob the first of their three home runs.
But there was a lot of hard contact in that first inning.
And I was pretty worried.
I was pretty worried that this was going to be a version of the clunkers that we've seen from Emerson,
Hancock.
But a terrific defensive play from Cal Raleigh gets Hancock out of the inning.
And from the second inning on, he was nails.
I believe you're retired 14 straight at one point.
someone correct me if that's what it was or not. But he was awesome. The fastball velocity was good.
A couple of 97 mile per hour pitches. The sweeper looked good. Are the angels the toughest team to
pitch against? No, not even a little bit. Same thing for Wheater, he started against the Guardians.
But he's made this interesting. And somebody else brought this up in the chat. By the way,
appreciate everyone who's coming out for this. We really do appreciate all of the support that we've
seen since we started doing this, but especially early on this year.
He looked good.
He's passed the eye test and then some in these first two starts.
You know, you take a look at some of that hard contact in the first inning and you see
the worries with the Hancock.
But then you watch the rest of that start and you say, that guy's a mid-rotation
starter or better.
We need to see it a larger sample size before we commit.
to calling him a full-time mid-rotation guy.
But man, he was good.
He was really impressive today and deserved so much better in terms of a result.
And I know there's only one way you can go.
There's only three possible results, right?
No decision loss and win.
Boy, did he deserve a win?
Boy, did he deserve a win?
But that is encouraging.
The starting pitching has been nails.
Logan Gilbert's been your worst starter.
and a couple of pitches go the other way,
and Logan Gilbert has an ERA of like 1.5.
I have not been concerned about the starting pitching
what I've seen from them at all this year,
at all.
Even George Kirby, three-run Homer,
where he shouldn't have been in the game.
The starters have been really good.
I also thought I Ward Bizarro did a really nice job in relief.
I was a little surprised to see Bizarro brought in,
but it kind of made sense thinking about, you know,
that they had some righties coming up after low and he did the job as he usually does the pitching
has been really impressive feel really confident in what you are seeing right now from these starting
pitchers the steam is frozen just like our bats well it's back now i apologize for that guys um
we'll take a quick commercial break give some love to the sponsors and then we'll talk about
this offense i i i the tournament is here one of the best times

Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast.
My name is Chris Crawford.
Mariners lose one to nothing.
Oh, man.
I don't even know what to say about this offensive effort because there was some good.
It's hard for me to talk about good getting shut out by Jack flipping coconut
whiz.
I know that's not how you pronounce it.
I'm sorry, Jack.
But it's not an acceptable.
result. Scoring zero runs in 18 regular innings against the Los Angeles, gosh damn
angels, is an unacceptable result. It's not okay. And I don't give a crap about the process.
This is a daily recap show. And all we're going to talk about is what we watch and the results of
what we watched. So yeah, the process looked okay. There were lots of hard contact, lots of hard
contact, excuse me. There was a lot of it, but not good enough. Not good enough, man. You cannot get
shut out by the Los Angeles Angels for 18 innings and need a zombie runner to get that first
run across yesterday. There was some luck. If you believe the Seattle Mariners are cursed,
tonight is a great example.
I mean, you can just point straight to the scoreboard
and show who robbed those three home runs.
Who robbed you?
Because it wasn't Tori Hunter.
It wasn't Willie Mays.
It wasn't some sort of baseball deity.
It was objectively one of the worst defensive players in baseball and Joe Adele.
And he did it three.
times. He got Cal in the first. He got Naylor in whatever inning. And he makes a leaping
MLB the show dive into the outfield for the third one. I don't know what to say. I don't know
what to say. It was great to see Big Dumper. And by the way, Aaron Goldsmith, you got to be better
there. You cannot guarantee that the ball's going over the fence in that situation. You got to be
better. And I love Aaron Goldsmith.
somebody brings up that you can't even do that in this show.
I didn't think you could do it in the MLB, MLB, not the MLB, I'm sorry.
I mean, tons of credit to Adele.
But that's three solo homers.
Three runs today would have been me criticizing this offense.
Jack, as bad as Adele has been defensively throughout his career,
Kokanowitz has been objectively one of the worst
MLB pitchers in baseball.
And you struck out seven times against that dude today.
And that's a very easy unsung villain to me today.
Boy, you know what?
I'm going to go with a tie, actually.
I guess it's not that easy.
It's going to go to Dan Wilson for putting Luke Rayleigh in the leadoff spot.
And Luke Rayleigh looking absolutely horse to steam free.
Oh, no, it's back.
Ha.
It was pathetic.
And with runners on first and second,
just an absolutely anemic at bat again.
And look, Luke Rayleigh shone the pop to begin the year.
Homer in three straight games.
Hitting him leadoff there is incredibly reactionary.
For a franchise that is basically the new trust the process.
To hit Luke Rayleigh leadoff, I don't get it.
A couple of real quick injury updates for you guys.
Brendan Donovan is day-to-day with tightness in his groin.
I bet you he's not in the lineup tomorrow,
but I think there is a chance he's going to come back.
I will also point out the Mariners lie about injuries all the time.
Another injury to update you guys on,
Colt Emerson leaves his game in Tacoma after fouling a ball off his foot.
He was able to continue the at-bat,
but clearly was in a lot of pain,
and he fouls that ball right off his foot and unable to continue defensively.
good news is x-rays negative so it looks like he's avoided a significant injury there
I mean the long story short of this game is these are unacceptable results
I don't care of Joe Adele would have robbed seven solo homers
but maybe I do a little bit but hopefully you guys know what I mean
why were they able to create such little action today
and there were some Hulio had two hits to really
bat at bats outside of that and the hits are dink and dunk. Big dumper robbed of the homer, of course.
Rift of the abats stunk. Josh Naylor had a pretty good game. Randy or Rosarena goes one for four.
Awful game from him. I think he left four guys on base early on. O for seven today with runners in
scoring position. The only guy who I'd say just had a really good offensive game today was J.P.
Crawford. Double, walk, and should have had a homer. Oh, and Leo Rivas, by the way. This is
getting old quick. Not a good player. Nice guy to have on your bench. Not a starting player on a team
that should be competing for a World Series. Anders and I will be back tomorrow. We really appreciate it.
I know it's a shorter one, but this is actually what we're supposed to have is 15 to 20 minutes shows.
We just run along a lot because we can't shut up. I can't shut up. Let's just be honest here.
We'd really appreciate if you hit like. We'd really appreciate if you hit subscribe tomorrow.
I believe the pitching, well, let's just look, we've got a little bit of time.
The pitching matchup tomorrow is going to be
Luis Castile versus Tyler Johnson, Ryan Johnson, excuse me, not the wide receiver.
Ryan Johnson, someone you should Shalak.
They probably won't.
Happy Easter tomorrow for those who don't come out.
We really appreciate it.
I don't know if the Seattle Mariners are my favorite thing right now.
