This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
The Seattle Mariners are the champions of the American League West Division.
The Seattle Mariners are the AL West Division champions.
One more time, the Seattle Mariners are the
AL West Division
Champions.
It's something that I've never
really experienced in my life.
I was four years old when it first happened.
Chris, we'll get to your stories in just a second.
But how they did it tonight was the most
Mariners way possible. You get
59 and 60 from Cal Raleigh.
You get an absolute
ace-like performance from Luis
Castillo. You get
a Julio home run in the first inning.
You get a Gino home run
later in the game. You manufacture.
a couple runs. They did absolutely everything today. After winning or clinching a playoff
position last night and partying their butts off, they came to the park today and did it all
again. And the American League West champions are your Seattle Mariners. Welcome to the Mariners
postcast here on us, both Sports Radio 93.3KJRFM and the Locked on Mariners YouTube
Thank you so much, everyone who's with us today.
This is something I've been waiting for for a long time, man, for my entire life, to be completely honest.
And it's obviously not done.
We said this yesterday as well, but this is something that I will cherish for a long, long time.
This team's special.
We're going to, we're just, I'm just going to enjoy the ride for the rest of this season, however long that goes.
And, yeah, this is awesome.
We'll talk about, obviously, Cal Dumpur, Cal Raleigh's just MVP performance once again today, hitting 59 and 60.
We'll talk about, you know, the absolute ace-like pitching performance from Louise Castillo, but I first want to hear the thoughts of one.
Christopher Crawford on your American League West champions, the Seattle Mariners.
I am not at a loss for words very often.
And most of you know that I just can't shut up.
But I may be at a loss for words here.
I'm honestly a little overwhelmed.
So not only do the Seattle Mariners win the division for the first time since I was 18 years old.
And again, guys, you see the gray in the beard.
You know how long ago that is.
Not only does Cal Raleigh hit his 59th and 60th Homer and, oh, was that special to see?
That's 60th.
I mean, the 59th was cool.
I think it's the hardest hit ball that I've seen from a Seattle Mariner this year.
I don't know what the stats say, but oh boy, oh boy, was that ball tanked?
Today's also the two-year anniversary of my mother passing away.
And yeah, this is a good day.
And it's a day that started out really hard, really hard because I wake up every morning on that.
And it's all been all of two.
But I wake up thinking about her a lot.
always wake up that day and just can't help but think about her.
And my mom wasn't a huge sports fan, but she loved the Seattle Mariners because her mom
loved the Seattle Mariners.
My grandma is just absolutely happy.
And I love the Seattle Mariners.
So I love you, mom.
I love you Seattle Mariners.
Let's go.
And I, gosh, you could not have put it any better because
I don't think it's truly hit me yet.
I was talking with a couple of my KGR employees before we went live.
And I was saying, like, I was really hyped for the Houston series and everything that happened.
And I was screaming with every pitch because I knew how much was at stake.
These last couple nights haven't, I still don't feel have fully set in with me yet.
And I'm hearing you speak through what could have been a really tough
day in your life, but has turned into something that is, I think, ceremonial at that.
Man, that's what makes baseball so special.
That's what makes this team so special.
No doubt.
And the entire city is now rallying around this baseball team.
And it's something that I can't put words behind.
I know that's kind of our job here on the Mariners Postcast is to put words behind it.
But, guys, we just, we're enjoying this with you.
man what a game too uh just you could tell these guys wanted it man they want it they want it
they want it so bad yeah and yes you come back from the houston series and it's a tough start
to the game yesterday they battle that one out emotionally they could right tell they wanted to get
that monkey off their back and there were people that doubted them coming into today being like yeah
okay so they had that emotional game last night with all the partying and everything
thing.
Right.
I'm going to come back and do it again today.
And they did.
They absolutely did.
There was no.
From the start of this game,
are you kidding me?
Yeah.
Just put perspective, Chris,
before we break down the rest of this game.
Sure.
I think this is the most impressed I've been with the Seattle Mariners.
And if you want to point out,
the Rockies lost today,
by the way,
and fell to 43 and 115.
I don't care.
That's pathetic.
And there's no doubt,
about it that the Seattle Mariners took advantage of that team today.
That's fine.
You still have to go out and win the game.
You still have to go out play a major league baseball team.
And you did that and then some.
And you just came out so hot.
You came out and hit three homers in the first inning.
It's easy to forget that because you say,
Big Dumber get that 59th and you say, oh, my goodness gracious,
what an accomplishment.
Well, there are other guys.
And Julio goes back to back with him.
Polanco hits that laser into the corner for the third homer in the inning.
And honestly, after Julio's Homer, I just said, all right, they're going to coast through this thing.
They're going to coast through this thing.
As long as Luis Castillo is a semblance of the pitcher we usually see.
And, oh, was Luis Castillo a semblance and then some of the pitcher we usually see?
This was such an impressive job by Dan Wilson.
like having this unit ready to go.
I'm not going to lie to you.
I was surprised how much they celebrated yesterday.
We talked about it a little bit yesterday.
I would surprised how
strip club adjacent that locker room looked.
It really did kind of look like a party atmosphere.
And that's great.
That's great that they had a good time.
There was no loss of focus today.
No loss of focus today whatsoever.
And look, you got to win one more.
You got to win more and more
to clinch the two seed in this division.
They are not done yet.
And you can tell this team is not done.
Now, tomorrow, your lineup may look hangover at Jason.
And we can talk about that as we go further.
But this team looked so ready to play.
After yesterday, I thought there were two tense.
There's nothing too tense about this team today.
No, no.
Mariners win this one, nine to two over the Colorado Rockies.
And like we said, you get an absolute Louise Castillo performance.
you get 59 and 60 from Cal Raleigh and the rest of the guys pitch in.
I mean, it's weird to kind of just throw that under the rug.
But you kind of have to at this point because of the story of what's everything that's going on.
But this truly is a full team of baseball players.
It's not just Cal Raleigh.
It's not just the pitching staff.
Everyone does their job.
And that's why I think this team, it feels different, Chris Crawford.
It feels completely different.
Can I say another thing that's awesome?
and the fact that the athletics are beating the crap out of the Houston Astros makes me say,
say, thank God the Seattle Mariners won even more.
You don't want to win a division like that.
You don't want to win the division having guys looking.
And look, they wouldn't care.
They would still party like crazy.
You know, it would still be an awesome celebration.
But think of how much better it was when the Mariners had big number hit that home run
to send him into the postseason instead of, I believe it was the Yankees losing to the Orioles
that would have caused Seattle to make it.
Think about how much better that is.
Think about how much better it is that a game where your star should be MVP catcher,
hits two homers,
your guy who has been one of the best starters in the American League has one of his best
starts as a Seattle Mariner.
You get a homer from your star center fielder.
You get all this stuff.
Isn't that so much better than quote unquote backing into the postseason?
Thank God they won tonight.
And we're not talking about that.
I wouldn't have cared in the long run.
I would have still celebrated, would have called Grandma at 11 o'clock at night or whatever time it was and say,
hey, Grandma, they clinched.
It's still pretty cool.
This is so much better.
So let's start with that start, Luis Castillo.
Man, how good was he today?
All I'm going to say is I believe he just solidified at least some sort of role in the starting rotation for your playoff roster.
So I don't know how you feel about that.
but his last four starts have been really, really, really good.
It's almost the anti-Louise Castillo that we've kind of known the last couple years
because he's been like very good in the month of August, usually.
And then when September rolls around,
he seems to have a little bit of a burning out feel, I don't want to say.
This year's the complete opposite.
He struggles in August.
And I want to give credit to you so much here because you said,
and when he was struggling,
and I'm a big Castillo defender.
I am as big of a Castillo fan as there is out there.
When he was struggling, you said,
I would rather him go through this right now.
And boy, are we glad he went through it in August and not in September.
There's no doubt about it.
And, you know, people who were jumping off the Castillo bandwagon,
it's totally fine to jump back on, by the way.
There's plenty of room on this ship.
Absolutely.
We even said, too,
that we had some concerns.
But we also, both of us, I'm giving both of us credit here, said,
hey, it's better to do this now than late.
And what we have seen from Castillo for the overwhelming majority of 2025
has been the rock, has been that guy.
And there was no one better to start this game than Luis Castillo.
Because does he have the upside of any of the other four Seattle Mariner starters right now,
not counting Bryce Miller?
No.
No.
he doesn't have the same upside. Does he still have the highest floor, I think, of any of those starters?
I tend to think so, even when he could be a little bit home or happy, because he generated 17 swings and missed tonight and was so efficient, so efficient.
Everything was landing for strikes. The one hit he gives up, I bet if you asked Julio Rodriguez, and if he watches the replay, he says, maybe I could have timed that.
Maybe I could have timed it. Not to mention strike three should have happened right before that.
Strike three should have happened right before that, and who knows what we're talking about.
By the way, a ton of kudos to Dan Wilson for letting him get that final out.
You had to give Kestio that chance to get that ovation.
You had to. Absolutely had to.
I don't care if you would have given up a 700-foot home run that was somehow worth six runs.
You had to give him that chance to get that last out.
And it was the first time I saw a little bit of emotion from Kastio in a while, too.
other than kind of grumpy when he's been taken out by Dan Wilson a few times.
Yeah.
Oh, it was such an, it was an ace performance.
Is he the ace of your staff anymore?
No, he is not.
Is he still really freaking good?
Yes.
And because you have guaranteed now, no matter what happens, no matter what happens,
the first two games for your Seattle Mariners are going to be played in T-Mobile Park.
Luis Castillo should start one of those first two games.
I love it.
I absolutely love it.
And I think one of the things that even when he was,
struggling. You and I were both saying he's still probably your best big game pitcher.
And I think this qualifies as a big game. I know it's the Rockies. I know you've already
clinched the postseason and everything. But you needed to win this game to get to get that
division crown for the first time in 20. Can I tell you why real quick that game was so big?
The game was so big for two reasons. Number one, you have no idea how tomorrow's going to go.
You just don't. It's going to be a bullpen game. And you don't know what's going to happen in a
bullpen game. Number two.
Are the Dodgers as good as they were?
I like to ask myself questions, I guess, today.
The Dodgers aren't the same team as they were in 2024.
They've still got some really good players.
And those games matter for the Dodgers.
Those games absolutely matter.
So getting this out of the way and avoiding that potential catastrophe,
it's done.
You don't have to worry about that anymore.
So you want that guy who's going to give you six and two.
And there's nobody on the staff outside of Bryce Wu.
Brian Wu, I knew I would do it someday.
right of him that I trust more to give you six and two right now than Luis Castillo.
So you needed that safety.
You needed that rock and that rock delivered to you for you and then some.
Yeah, I think it's just everything you needed today.
He set the tone in that first inning with how dominant he looked.
And then the bottom half, the offense did their thing with the back to back,
Julio and then Cal or sorry, Cal than Julio.
And then, of course, Palanco later in the inning as well, man, it was.
and we're watching the scenes now.
If you're watching us on YouTube, we are,
have our eyes on the screen because they're partying once again, man.
They do,
they're doing it again.
It's great to see.
I absolutely love it.
Hopefully they save the expensive champagne for today.
Maybe they did expensive champagne both times.
Who knows?
Yeah.
You know,
Canton might be giving a mums one day and the moat the other.
You just never know.
You never know.
Okay.
When we come back,
we're going to talk about the American League MVP.
We talked about the American League.

what it is.

Chris,
I don't want to
to tune our own horn here.

Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast, Anderson Hurst, Chris Crawford with you.
Let's talk about the American League MVP because, yeah, Cal Raleigh is him.
He is him, as the kids say.
He hits 59 and 60.
They pop the champagne bottles in the Mariners Clubhouse as we speak.
and Chris Crawford, I don't think they're doing that
without the performance of their catchers.
So I think that's pretty much the definition
of most valuable player, to be completely honest.
So let's just do the math here.
The Mariners do something they haven't done in 24 years.
And then there's a very big reason why that happened.
And his number is number 29.
So big dumper, America League MVP.
What say you about that?
Yeah, he's the MVP.
I've felt this way for a while.
It disappoints me that I think it's not going to happen, but there's a way for it to happen, and it's to get to 63.
So Ty and Colby will talk more about that in the upcoming episodes, I'm sure, and hopefully we get to talk about 63 because it's a number I think he absolutely can reach over these next four games.
What I love the most about Cal Raleigh's accomplishment tonight is that he bookends everything, right?
He gives you that huge home run in the first inning that was just absolutely.
shillacked. I didn't see the distance or exit velocity on it, but it's got to be incredibly high.
I'm guessing at least 430 feet and above 100 miles per hour to be sure an exit velocity.
That's probably an understatement. And then in a game that wasn't close, still counts just as much.
You just punctuate the blowout. You absolutely punctuate that blowout with that two run shot.
And how many times have we seen that version of that home run from Cal Rale this year?
How many times have we seen him just line that ball into the right field bleachers?
He's such a special player.
And oh, by the way, he kind of guarantees this game is going to be a blowout with a two-run double as well.
That's something that gets lost in the shuffle here.
It's true.
On top of calling a terrific baseball game, on top of being so good at blocking the baseball
and the few times that they actually needed it, he's just a special baseball player.
He's just a special baseball player and as good as Aaron Judge has been in the year of our Lord 2025.
There's no way, no way in Hades.
You can tell me that anyone is more valuable to a baseball team in 2025 than Calvert Raleigh.
Just special stuff, man.
Calbert, Calvert, Raleigh, Durham.
I love you, my friend.
And I really think that you're already on the Rushmore of Seattle Mariner players.
I completely agree.
So just to back up your numbers, it was 111 miles per hour off the bat for 438 feet.
So yeah, I think that was pretty much Molly Whopped.
Oh, yes, it was.
That's a pretty good name for a show.
I've heard, never mind.
But it's been pretty fun to, it's been pretty fun to be right about Cow Raleigh.
I have some audio proof going back on this station on KJR that I've been a big fan of this guy.
He's so much better than I ever thought he would be.
But man, oh man, what a special baseball player that gets to stay in Seattle for an awful long time.
But it wasn't just Cal today.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
That home run from Julio is one of the more impressive.
To hit a ball 422 feet that was basically on his ankles is so flipping impressive.
And he knew he got every inch of that baseball.
He gets on three times today.
I'll tell you something that's really encouraging for me, Anders.
A. E. Johani Oswarez and Randy Rose Arena both look good. The results weren't always great for either one,
but they both looked good. They had been looked not great over the last, you know, whatever.
And Randy was the one guy on the road trip that just didn't get anything done whatsoever.
The process for a Rose Arena was really good tonight. And then, Gino, I want those two more homers, man.
I want to say I watched a team, and I know most of them were for a different team.
I want to say I watched a team that had a guy who had 60 homers and 50 homers playing in the playoffs.
Okay, so normally we do unsung hero here or unsung villain or unsung moment, anything like that.
I'm going to go with a different kind of vibe with a choice because I'm going to give you a multiple choice question here on your test after the Mariners win the A.O. West.
9 to 2 over the Colorado Rockies.
again, if you want more Mariners content, you can find
Locked on Mariners podcast. Tideon Gonzalez,
Colby Patina, do an excellent job.
If you don't know about our format here,
Tidane and Kobe take a kind of 30,000-foot view of the Mariners,
bigger picture stuff.
They like to look at, you know, the prospects, you know,
the decision-making, the, maybe the look at the playoff rotation
as we inch closer to that time.
Chris and I just recap every single Mariner baseball game here on the
Mariner's Postcast.

Thank you for listening, first of all.
And then second of all, if you haven't subscribed to that YouTube channel
so you can see our beautiful faces, please do that as well.
It helps us out.
and we like to hang out with you in the chat live.
So you have Luis Castillo, Randy Rosarena, and Gino Suarez
are kind of the three names in my head where I'm thinking,
which one of the, I don't want to say bounce back for Castillo,
but just overall in his last month, I'll count it.
But which one of those guys are you most, like,
encouraged about heading into playoff time?
Because we can start talking about playoff time now that they are clinched as the ALS champions.
Because for me, what's a bigger deal to me is that how Luis Castillo has been pitching his last four starts.
And it wasn't just today against the Rockies.
He's been doing it his last four starts the entire month of September.
So if you get that ace-like version of Luis Castillo for me, that's the biggest deal.
But I could see an argument for your leadoff hitter, Randy Rosalena.
And you see the upside with Eugenio Suarez.
The dude has almost hit 50 home runs.
If you have a guy that's hot during the playoffs, that can make a huge difference.
So which one of those three, and I know they're started, as you pointed out, starting to bounce back a little bit here.
Which one of those three is the biggest deal for the Mariners to get right before playoff come time?
It's a great question.
The reason I will go with Castillo is because, yes, Randy Rosarina hitting at the top of the lineup.
And you can't ignore what a Roserina has done in the postseason in the facts in the past folks.
You can't.
You cannot ignore that he has been literally one of the greatest postseason performers of this century.
Third overall, the third best after Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
It's really good.
He's been really good in those clutch moments.
And you can't ignore, I think the thing you brought up about the upside of Aohenio Suarez,
especially when such a streaky guy when he's right.
But the reason I go with Castillo is because what you can do now with this pitching staff,
if you feel confident using him as a starter.
And I'm trying to do this without being patronizing.
Like, oh my gosh, Luis Castile, he's good now.
Like it sounds a little silly sometimes, but here's the thing.
I cannot help but wonder what George Kirby and Bryce Miller can do,
if especially in a three game series,
now that's not going to happen anymore.
But even in a five game series,
one of those guys,
and it's probably going to be Miller,
is going to move to the bullpen and going to be electric.
Electric.
And now I still think George Kirby in relief would be pretty fantastic to watch too.
That's not going to happen because they're not.
not going to skip a starter. You're going to have four starters go. But I think it does change how you can
manage your rotation, the fact that you can trust this guy after those four games. And let's be
honest, if those four games happened right now, we'd be having a different conversation,
completely different conversation. Now that you trust Castillo, that you know Castillo is the
version that he's been for the overwhelming majority, not just of this year, but of his career,
it changes how you can do things
and that I think is the most important
of those three but that's a really good question
Anders. Yeah, I think like we kind of
just talked about you could make an argument
for any one of those three.
So just having one of them
be back is a huge deal for this team
because of how deep it is but the fact that
like I know Randy's probably been the worst hitter
in the lineup for the past for the entire 15 and one
stretch now or 16 and 1 I should say.
And getting at least like the, like you said,
the process is looking a lot better.
His sack fly,
you almost got all of that one.
I think he gets on with a double as well today.
Gina Svarez,
obviously, that opposite fuel home run was awesome.
Great to see,
great to see him do that.
And underrated,
he,
if he doesn't hit that home run,
if he strikes out,
if he doesn't get on base,
we don't see another cow rally at bat.
So great point.
Thank you so much for that.
I totally forgot about that.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'll go with an unsung player, though, by the way.
Do it. Damn, Domkin's own is raking. Absolutely breaking again, three for four today.
That's just having a guy like that to hit seventh, I think is so big, so big, because if I'm just being 100% honest, do I have a lot of confidence?
I'm going to ask myself another question. Do I have a lot of confidence in Victor Robles and J.P. Crawford right now at the bottom of the
Not really. Not really. But if I know I have a guy like Dom Canzone who's hitting like that to make sure that 5,6, 7 or 4, 56 are getting driven in, oh, I feel so much more confident. So much more confident. The other thing is with Canzone, it changes how you have to manage a game. You have to have a lefty ready for that guy. And then, you know, hopefully your bench guys are able to do the job when you have to go to that guy. But just having that type of presence.
as your seventh hitter, seventh?
It's pretty important.
Yeah, if you somehow missed it and you're tuning into the Mariners Postcast,
the Mariners won this one, nine to two,
to clinch the American League West Division, guys.
I'm not going to say you didn't need it because the Astros ended up,
or I think they're losing right now.
I haven't seen the final score yet.
So I would love to have them not make the playoffs.
I don't want to be a hater, but I'm a hater.
But the mayor's didn't need it today.
It's over.
It's over.
Okay, it's over.
Let's go.
It's an absolute pillow fight between them and the Tigers, I guess, for who's going to make that final postseason appearance.
But I, and this is why I want to be the two seed so freaking bad, because you're going to play one of the Detroit Tigers, the Cleveland Guardians, or the Houston Astros.
Are you kidding me?
I take all three of them.
I take all three of them.
Compared to playing the Blue Jays who are struggling right now.
but, you know, the Yankees who scare the crap out of me because they're New York Yankees,
or the Boston Red Sox who have some awfully talented players.
And, oh, by the way, one of the few aces of that group.
There's no.
Therick Scoobo is really good, really, really good.
And I'd be scared as heck to face him.
But after that is so garbage, I don't care about it.
I'll take the game one loss in that situation, if I'm being honest with you.
Man, being the two-seat is a big deal.
And when's the last time a team clinched three straight big things on three?
straight days. I can't think of it. Like,
clinched the playoffs spot,
clinch the whale west, and then tomorrow with the win,
you clinch the two seed. Oh, that would just be delightful.
I completely agree. I think that,
I think that's on these guys' minds. I don't think they're done.
I mean, and when I say done, I don't mean like they think that they've won
anything yet, but I just mean like that they can coast until the postseason.
I don't think that's the mentality of these guys. We just saw it last night where they were
partying their butts off, come back and
win the division the next day. Look as focused as absolutely can be. It's something where that's
where I really believe in someone like Dan Wilson to get these guys ready to play. He has the pulse of
this team. And I absolutely love it. I love watching Mariner baseball guys. And if you want bigger,
more content regarding the kind of what to look for in the rest of the season, the playoff
scenarios, which seating you want. Tiding is all is Kobe Patnaud, have you covered on the Locked on
Mariners podcast, appreciate them.
Please check it out if you haven't already.
They do a fantastic job.
Chris and I will be back with you guys tomorrow after the Mariners game.
Hopefully we're talking about another clinching scenario with the Tuesday, but you never
know.
This has been a fun time, guys.
Let's keep it rolling.
Appreciate everyone hanging out with us here on the Locked-on Mariners Postcast.
Chris Crawford, any last words?
I love you, Bob.
