That, my friends, is what we call a win.
Let's talk about it on the Mariners Postcast.
This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the locked on podcast network, your team every day.
What's going on, Mariner fans?
Anderson Hurst with you on the Mariners Postcast.
Mariners win this one, the second game of the series against the Minnesota Twins.
Seven to one is the final.
the offense struggled a little bit early against Joe Ryan,
but really picked it up in the second half of this game.
Six, seventh, eighth, and ninth inning.
They score in all four of those innings with big days from Julio Rodriguez,
Randy Rosarena, Col Young, and Josh Naylor.
Logan Gilbert was good, but again, not super efficient.
Feel like he was better than the five innings that he ended up kind of posting
today. Did get a little bit unlucky. A couple of plays that should be made defensively that don't
end up being made. That's okay. You end up kind of your bullpen ends up covering once again,
not having to use Munoz as a big day today. And it's just a Mariners dub, guys. Not much more to
it than that. Let's start with the start. Logan Gilbert looked great today. His stuff was much better
than his last couple starts, I think,
aware he kind of really struggled to get outs.
He would get ahead and counts a lot,
and then, you know,
would either leave just a random pitch over the plate,
even in a pitcher's count,
or he would have those marathon at bats
where it just kept fouling and fouling and fouling.
And that's kind of the, I don't want to say,
issue with Logan Gover, because he's,
there's no main issue.
He's a strikeout dependent pitcher, right?
He's not going to be drawn.
George Kirby and fill up the strike zone and, you know, force you to put the ball in play.
He's, he's a guy that's going to miss barrels, miss bats.
But when that happens, guys kind of know that and they can, you know, foul off a bunch of
pitches here and there and then just try and just scrap through at bats, which is, you know,
props to the other team for doing that.
He was better today in that aspect in terms of making pitches when he needed to.
Byron Buxton just ambushed him.
That's a great hitter, knowing kind of exactly what the scouting report is on Logan Gilbert.
Logan tried to sneak one by him.
It wasn't a terrible location.
It was top rail.
Not his best fastball, though, at 94.
He's never going to blow you away, 98, 99.
So I'm not expecting, you know, a ton different from him.
It's just a good hitter doing what he does.
But Logan Gilbert does kind of battle through this one, gets out of a couple jams as much as he needed to and gets through the five innings.
his final line tonight ends up being five innings, six hits, one run.
It was there, and it was the home run, just the one walk, just the 4Ks,
which is a little bit low for Logan is where he used to seeing from him.
But that will get the job done.
As Bizarro comes in and gets his inning through, excuse me, Spire gets his inning through,
Brash gets his inning, and then, of course, you have the big lead and you get Cooper
Chris Well instead of Andres Munoz, which I think is a win for this one today.
Yeah, just a good pitching performance.
You needed it because they're the first five plus innings of this game.
The Mariners looked like they were lifeless once again offensively.
It looked like Joe Ryan was about to just slice and dice and go a complete game shutout.
But finally, they awaken in the sixth inning.
And it ends up being like one of those games where you feel like it's going to be close the entire way.
you answer Byron Buren Bucson's home run in the fifth inning with a couple runs in the sixth inning,
or sorry, just the one run to tie it up in the sixth inning.
But you needed to kind of get the car started, so to speak.
You needed to get that couple.
Let's go through that sixth inning really quick offensively,
and then we'll talk about the rest of the offense.
J.P. Crawford had a overall, J.P. had a kind of unlucky day at a couple, like, sharp lineouts.
does still get a hit as well. Cal Raleigh was one of the only few people that had a bad day today.
Julio Rodriguez has one of his three doubles, and then Josh Naylor singles him home to tie things up in the sixth inning.
So that was a big moment to kind of get the Mariners started a little bit offensively.
Then in the bottom six, your offense does its job.
And then the seventh, Randy Roserana doubles.
And then they make the pitching change.
And this is where I want to talk about the pinch hitting strategy because Mariners at this point is 1-1.
You've been struggling a little bit offensively.
And up until now, Dan and the Mariners staff has been very adamant that they like their platoons.
And especially in higher leverage situations.
Now, what we categorize as a high-leverage situation versus a non-high-leverage situation, I think can be.
There's a little bit of subjectivity there.
And that's where the frustration I think comes in for a lot of people.
But they opt to keep Luke Rayley in for the left-handed Cody Funderberg.
What a last name that is.
And at first, surface level, I was like, God, what are they doing?
Luke Rayleigh cannot hit versus left-handed pitching.
And, you know, it had proven to be a good thing against St. Louis when Rob Reff-Snyder comes in
and has the pinch hit go ahead, ninth inning home run.
Luke Reilly proves that he's not super successful at getting hits, so to speak,
against left-handed pitching.
But where I think maybe I'm giving them too much credit in this situation,
but where I think it actually makes sense is you have a guy on second base.
It's a tie game, right?
You want to get that guy in.
Luke Reilly can, A, either drop a bunt.
We've seen him do that before.
I'm not a huge fan of the bunt, especially in a sacrifice situation.
If you're bunting for hit, that's okay.
But that is an option with Luke in terms of guys who have proven that they can do that before.
Or he's a guy that doesn't hit the ball the other way.
And this is one of the reasons I don't like bunting is because you can do exactly what a
sacrifice bunt does, but putting the ball in play with normally swinging away,
while also having the opportunity to get a hit as well.
Luke just pulls, rolls over a ground ball to second base and he, it's a ground out.
But it moves Randy to third base with less than two outs.
And that is, I think, if they were thinking this way, the right way to go about it.
Instead of looking at, you know, Luke Rayleigh and Dom Kanzong's, they're back to back in the order.
And which one of those two guys, if you're not going to pinch it for both of them,
which I don't think you should because then you have no one left on your bench,
and it's still a seventh inning.
and you never know what can happen.
I don't think you should pinch it for both of them.
So if you're just going to do one of them,
Dom-can zone historically and recently has had more success
against left-handed pitching.
So the immediate answer would be okay.
Pinch it for Luke Rayleigh and then leave Dom in there.
But I want the ability to,
if you're looking at the two situations,
guy on second base with no outs or guy on third base with one out,
I would want the guy or the platoon advantage in that second situation.
So they opt to keep Luke Rayleigh in the game.
He pulls the ball a lot.
He knows how to put the ball in play.
If he does strike out, that's a tough one.
But, you know, I like the idea of leaving him in here just to, hey, put the ball
on the right side of the infield, let Randy get to third, and then we'll pinch it,
Dom for Mitch Garver for Dom.
And I think that in process makes a lot of sense to me.
Again, I don't think Luke Rayleigh is going to ever be the guy to be left-handed pitching,
you know, a monster versus them.
He's never going to, you know, if you need a hit against the left-handed pitching,
like if you have second and third two outs or something like that where you need a hit,
that's not a situation to keep Luke Rayley in the game.
But if you're just trying to move him over and maybe you have an idea of maybe dropping
down a button, maybe they're covering the third baseline, whatever,
that I think is the right way to go about it.
I don't know what you guys think.
Let me know.
I know this has been a whole topic of conversation for a long time with the Mariners.
It doesn't really end up mattering.
But that run that they score, they bring in Mitch Garver.
And the funny thing is, Mitch Garver then pops out and they don't get the run in.
And then Cole Young, as clutch as he has been for the majority of this year,
comes in with two outs and hits the single up the middle.
And he's continuing to impress.
guys on both sides of the ball.
I know I kind of buried the lead
there with the pinch hit situation, but
in process, that was the right
thing to do, in my opinion.
But Cole Young ends up making it not matter
because his single
brings home Randy. The Mariners get the lead and they
do not look back.
Let's take a quick break.
We'll talk about the eighth and ninth inning as the Mariners
still had a one run to lead and they were looking to
build on it. Who is your unsunged hero?
All that stuff. Is Cole Young one of the best
players or best second basement at least in the made in uh american league let me know in the comments
we'll be right back here on the mariner's postcast after a mariner seven to one win against the

If you've got a sweet tooth like I do,
you know how tough it is to find that perfect treat without all the sugar.
That's why the confetti craze five-hour energy shop brings that nostalgic flavor back
in a whole new way.
This is the classic taste you remember,
but with a tasty caffeine boost and zero sugar.
It's a quick, easy way to justify that sweet.
craving while keeping things simple and on the go.
I've mentioned this before.
I'll say it again.
My favorite and I think most adequate time for a five-hour energy shot is when I'm golfing.
I'm someone who needs to keep focus.
If I lose a little bit of focus, my swing goes crazy.
Having a nice little energy shot with a little caffeine is perfect because it's on the go.
I don't want to bring a cup of coffee with me or anything like that.
It's just a nice little quick pop, a five-hour energy shot.
You put in your golf bag.
It's super easy.
It becomes my go-to when I want something sweet without going overboard.

Welcome back, Mariner's postcast.
After a 7-1 win over the Minnesota Twins,
mayors go to 15 and 16 on the season.
As I was saying, in the seventh inning,
Cole Young with a clutch single to get the lead for the Mariners.
They don't look back.
The bullpen does their job.
Let's talk about how they get the extra little insurance
runs J. P. Crawford walks in the eighth. Cal Raleigh, tough day, flies out to left field or Trevor
Larnick. Then Julio has the second of his three doubles and moves J.P. Crawford to third. And then,
of course, this is the big moment in the game because you're still only up by one. There's two
outs. Sorry, there's one out, my fault. But you have a guy on second and third with the ability
to blow this game open. And Josh Naylor just destroys a ball. And that is one of the
uh times where as soon as it left at bat his bat he knew it was out of here so that's his fourth
homer on the year you go up five to one after that radio rosorraine hits a triple uh and then you
are unable to get him home but you still take the five one lead a big moment in this game josh naler
who also had a really good day uh three hits today including a home run four four rbis for josh niler
that's pretty dang good uh two for hulio and then the one for cole young as well so uh
A big day for the offense, guys.
I think Cal struggled.
A couple other people didn't have great days.
If you look at Leo Rivas, he didn't have a great day.
Ganzone, Garver, whoever was in that spot, Luke Rayleigh.
But big days from Julio, from Josh, from Randy, and from Cole Young, all mean that you get the dub today.
And this offense, like, guys, this is kind of the vision with this offense moving forward throughout this year.
if it becomes what you feel like it should be,
and guys start playing to the abilities that they can,
you're never going to have all nine guys going at once,
but you're also never going to have all nine guys struggling at once.
You're going to have a combination of like we had tonight.
A couple guys on down days,
Cal's not going to hit a home run every single time he comes up to the plate.
But you have guys that are contributing consistently,
whether that is Cole Young, who's hot right now,
whether that's Julio, who seems to be picking it up as of late as well,
well. Josh Nailers had a great last couple weeks. And Randy, who's been your most consistent
hitter all year long. Let's be completely honest. Him and Cole Young have been your two most
consistent hitters all year long. So I love to see that from the Mariners offense throughout
this portion. Ninth inning, Cole Young gets another single. Leo Rivas gets hit by the pitch.
J.P. Crawford lines out. Cal flies out and then Julio hits another double, which I think is an
underrated and there'll be my unsung moment of this game. Um, because
You know, 5-1, they showed the bullpen.
It was Cooper Criswell and Andres Munoz warming up when it was 5-1 at that point.
And then they sat down Andres Munoz, but while it was still 5-1, I was like, oh, that's a, I mean, you're still up by four runs.
You expect to win the game, obviously.
But it's still not the ideal situation for a Cooper Quiswold.
And I think this would be his third day in a row as well.
and then Julio gets those two big insurance runs that had me feeling like, okay, great.
We don't have to use Munoz today.
I feel so much better about putting Chris Swell in for the ninth because you needed this win.
Just in the big thing about Julio, is you starting to drive the baseball,
and he's starting to drive the baseball by pulling it.
You saw three different types of doubles today.
The line drive pulling it to the left side over the third baseman's head,
which was just that's the thing that I've been waiting to see for him for so long.
You see the power of the opposite field to right field as well, where he goes over the right
fielder's head in Austin Martin.
So that's good to see.
And then the pole ground ball down the line, we've seen that a lot with him this year,
but still good to see that he's hitting it hard enough to get past the third basement.
So three different types of doubles for Julio today, and he continues to kind of get things going
a little bit.
I'm not worried about the lack of home runs with him.
That'll come.
Him starting to drive the baseball as much as he is is a huge.
thing for this team. And I don't think it's a coincidence that, you know, the Mariners have
started to win ever since, you know, he started to get things going. So yeah, that'll do it for here,
guys. Really appreciate you guys tuning in. Quick reminder, there's no postcast tomorrow.
Reasoning why is during weekday day games, weekday matinee games, it's tough for me during my
regular 9 to 5 schedule to be able to go live.
And you guys, Locked on Mariners fans will get breakdowns of the game slash series during
the day from Ty and Colby, who released an episode right after the game anyway.
So they got you covered for your post game coverage.
It'll just come in the form of the Locked on Mariners podcast normally.
So no Mariners postcast tomorrow.
And that'll be kind of a thing during weekday, day games.
That's the only time that I'll be taking it off.
It's a little bit harder with just one person now.
But I just can't fit into my schedule.
I'm going to miss you guys, but appreciate everyone hanging with me after every single Mariners game.
It's one of my favorite parts about the season.
We'll talk to you guys on Friday because no Mariners game on Thursday either.
So have a good one.
Let's get the series win tomorrow.
I think this would be a little bit of a sneaky big series win for the Mariners.
It's not a huge deal if you drop it tomorrow.
But I do believe there should be some urgency,
especially since Andres Munoz has not pitched in this series.
So you have the ability to kind of go for it tomorrow.
Let's do that.
We'll talk to you guys.
George Kirby versus Tosh Bradley.
Ty and Colby have your post-game coverage with Locked on Mariners right after that game.
And then I'll be back with you guys on Friday.
Have a good one.
Go Mariners.
