Starting point is 00:00:04 This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Well, welcome. Welcome back. It's good to be back, everybody. The Mariners win this one, 8 to 0. The offense breaks out.
Starting point is 00:00:32 George Kirby looks good. It's back like we never left, guys. It's back like we never left. It's good to see everybody. My name's Anderson Hurst. This is the Mariners Postcast. We go live after every single Mariner baseball game. And we have a good Mariner baseball game today.
Starting point is 00:00:50 So we have a lot to discuss. George Kirby was excellent. I mean, I'm not going to go over the past six weeks of Mariners baseball with you guys. We're going to just talk about tonight's game. But thank you guys for. just bearing with me with everything that was going on with the World Cup and everything. And, you know, I'm doing totally fine. It's nothing bad.
Starting point is 00:01:14 I just, I wasn't able to do everything. You know, with the World Cup, we had a bunch of coverage and stuff for my day job. But now that that's over, we get to dive straight back into Mariners baseball. Let's talk about this game because, I mean, I have been trying to keep up with the Mariners as much as I possibly can. I was really busy over the last six weeks, but, man, it seemed like things were really starting to fall off the edge. And it seemed like really in that giant series that it was really going to be close to pushing it over the edge, especially after that loss on Friday. But you get the win on Saturday. You get the win on Sunday. And then today, just an overall good game where it feels like
Starting point is 00:01:56 almost 100% good vibes. The only, only bad thing about today was the fact that, that Julio Rodriguez gets injured again. Hopefully it's just kind of a precautionary thing. They mentioned on the broadcast that it was he gets hit by the ball as he's running out a grounder that ended up being an RBI grounder. I looked at that. I didn't see him get hit. I thought it was like kind of a pulled hamstring sort of situation, which could
Starting point is 00:02:22 definitely linger and that was worrying me. But the fact that they said on the broadcast that he was pulled out of the game, because he got hit by the ball makes me feel a lot better because, those obviously you never know it could be a bone situation i don't know how deep it goes but uh those can obviously hopefully heal a lot quicker than something like a soft tissue hamstring sort of thing so uh hopefully he's okay um but other than that man the mariners tonight just uh played a complete baseball game because i mean kirby was excellent let's start with the start as we normally do god i'm gonna it's gonna take me a while guys to get back into the rhythm of things because
Starting point is 00:03:02 it's been a little bit since I've done a postcast, but let's talk about George Kirby's start six innings, three hits, no one runs, just the one walk, which is a huge thing for him six days. And really, in the past month or so,
Starting point is 00:03:19 George Kirby's been your worst pitcher. So having him come out today and look like the version of George Kirby that we know, where he's working the upper end fastball, not walking people, getting strikeouts, getting soft contact, all of that stuff. It's definitely something where I expected more from him from the beginning of this year. But if he's able to figure it out for these last, what, 60 games, this is the Mariners 101st game today. They're now 51 and 50 on the season.
Starting point is 00:03:55 that's going to be something that I think George Kirby can really take with momentum. And that's going to be the key for this Mariners team, not just today, not just in the next couple weeks, but for the rest of this season, is they going to have to build some momentum? I mean, you look at someone like the Boston, Red Sox, who looked dead in the water. They looked like they were going to be sellers. And all of a sudden, they've won 14 straight games and their seasons completely turned around. And they have World Series aspirations. So I feel like that's going to be something that is going to be a theme for me moving forward.
Starting point is 00:04:29 They've now won three straight games. That's just start with bite sizes here. Three straight games for this Mariners team. I don't know the last time they've done that. I wish I had the stat in front of me. But it's one of those things that it feels like they haven't done a long time. So if they're able to kind of continue building series wins, get it maybe a little bit of a win street going that's going to be winning's a habit with this team right so uh it's good to see
Starting point is 00:04:58 them kind of really put a full game together and boy man the reds um i thought the marioners were bad at defense oh boy uh there are some poor reds defensive gaffs in this game because that's probably the first time i've watched a mariner's game granted like i said i've been busy the last six weeks. I haven't watched every single game, but that's the first time I've watched a Mariners game where I felt like, okay, this team is worse defensively than the Seattle Mariners. And I get Ellie Dela Cruz as a cannon for an arm and he has a really good range as well,
Starting point is 00:05:35 but man, they just make some bad mistakes. So, but you still got to, you still got to do it. Let's talk about a little bit with the offense because Cal Raleigh, look, He's the talking point right now. He's the guy that is just, you look at everyone's triple slash line. If you look down the roster, especially the lineup today, he's the one that sticks out. I mean, you look at almost everyone else that's an everyday player. And you can kind of see it.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Julio's a little on the lower end for sure. Randy's, you know, up hitting above what we expected of him at this point. Dom Kanzone above. Josh Naylor definitely below. but the one that definitely sticks out is Cal Raleigh. So he's the one that needs to turn it around. And I don't know if it was my tweet that really did it. But after his just, I think it was a three-pitch strikeout versus Andrew Abbott
Starting point is 00:06:31 earlier in the game, I was like, man, when are we going to start to realize that this is just who Cal Raleigh is this year? Funnily enough, just a few at Bats later. He gets an opportunity. Terry Francona opts to walk the bases loaded for Cal Rale. and if that doesn't wake you up and tell you that you need to play better and get better, then I don't know what is because, and it ended up working well in Cal's favor, just an absolute hanging breaking ball for him.
Starting point is 00:07:03 And it was just, it was tattooed. And that's something that we haven't seen him do before. He hasn't been hitting those mistake pitches. And, you know, it's not a lack of power. it's it's to me it's the he's not see he wasn't seeing the ball well at all so getting just an absolute cookie like that hopefully helps his confidence but uh yeah i mean that's that's gonna be the key for this mariner's team building momentum and getting more out of out of their stars cow raleo let's see if he's able to come back tomorrow and if not just miss a couple days josh nailer cal julio and josh nailer i mean randy's doing his job he's pulling his weight dom canzon is as well victor robus with the four hit game today so good to see him who we're going to have to probably see a lot of him. You know, if Julio continues to kind of come in and go and not really figure it out in terms of his health at this point,
Starting point is 00:07:59 we're going to have to say Victorobos because he's the only other guy I can play center field on this team. But even if Julio's back, I still want to see Victorobos in this lineup a little bit more often. Maybe not every single day, obviously, when Dom, Canzon and Luke Rayleigh are hitting the way they are, less so Luke Rayleigh. I think it's one of those situations where I still have said this for a long time, guys.
Starting point is 00:08:25 He is when the best version of the Mariners has Victor Robles playing every single day. Now, that version of Victor Robles has been few and far between since 2024 when he had his breakout year. But the best version of the Mariners has Victor Robles playing because of how good he is defensively. You saw that today with the double play. Terrible scent, I believe it was the fourth inning, where they tried to do the sack fly with one out, and Victor Robos just absolute guns him. So that's, but that's something we haven't seen from a lot of these players.
Starting point is 00:09:04 A defensive play was made. So love to see it. He had a good day today. Won't be my unsung here. I'll mention that here in the second half of the show. But good win for the Mariners. They win 80. George Kirby gets the win, goes six innings strong, then Nick DeVila, I mean, Cole Wilcox,
Starting point is 00:09:22 and then, of course, Michael Rucker ends up closing the game. It's a good day when you win 80 and you don't have to use any of your high leverage relievers. So that's the formula the Mariners are going to have to use for the next couple months to really close out the season. And they're right in it for the AOS guys. So it's right there. I know it doesn't feel like it because of how poorly they've been playing lately, but just turn it on for a little bit. Use some momentum and play the way you know how to play.
Starting point is 00:09:54 We'll take a quick break. We'll come back. We will discuss who our unsung hero is. And then kind of look forward a little bit to tomorrow's game. And hopefully we get some injury updates. Those of you in the chat who are following along with Dan Wilson's post game show, obviously I'm unable to follow his words. but let us know if you see an update.
Starting point is 00:10:14 We will be right back with a little bit more after a quick timeout. Let's continue the postcast right after this. Every game has someone capable of going deep. Now you can get the chance to make your prediction before first pitch. Well, if you thought going into today's game, hey, I think this is the day how Raleigh gets it going. I think Terry Francona is going to walk the bases loaded for him, and it's really going to get his confidence going. First of all, take advantage of your Nostradamus abilities,
Starting point is 00:11:26 because that would have been insane if you predicted that. But with that being said, maybe you did think that Cal was going to break out today. It's definitely one of those things where it feels like it's just a matter of time before he gets going. Or maybe you think it's someone else. So maybe you think Randy tomorrow is going to go deep. Maybe you think Julio comes back and he's ready to show everyone that he's ready for the second or the last 60 games of the season. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:11:53 So if you're ready to play your game today, join all the action at fanduil.com. That's fanduil.com to play daily dingers and make your free pick on who's hitting a homer. Running a business shouldn't feel like you're trying to connect a bunch of systems that you know, where you're never designed to work together. One app for accounting, another for inventory, another for sales. And somehow none of them talk to each other. That's where Odu comes in.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Odu is an all-in-one business management software that brings every part of your business together in one platform from sales and accounting to inventory and marketing. Everything works in one place, helping your team move faster, stay organized, and focus on growing the business instead of managing software. The best organizations know that success isn't just about talent. It's about having everyone working towards the same goal. And that's true in sports, just like it is in business. Think about a recent move by your team that worked because every part of the organization was aligned from the front office to the coaching staff to the players.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Look at, you know, maybe, you know, it's the Seahawks in their trade for Rashid Shaheed. There's so much that you could talk about. but one thing that really stands out is how they got everyone pulling in the same direction with that decision. It wasn't just one great player or coach. It was a coordinated effort across the entire organization that made it successful. Great organizations win because operations matter. And that's why you should get Odu.

Before we get in today's show, it's time for the everyday I present. presented by stance as the official sock partner of Major League Baseball stance knows greatness isn't built in a single moment. It's earned overtime through consistency, preparation and showing up every day. That's why each week we're recognizing one player whose performance embodies those same qualities. This week's everyday icon, I'm going to have to go with George Kirby for today.
Starting point is 00:14:17 He went six innings. you know, everything is kind of set up when the starting rotation does well. So having him be kind of the thing that's set in motion, you know, the formula that the mariner's used for success is so key. And that's what makes him today's everyday icon. The everyday icon is presented by Stance. Check out the icon collection from Stance. Premium comfort, performance, and durability design for whatever your day brings.

Welcome back to the Marinerer Postcast. My name's Anderson Hurst. Sorry about a little bit longer on the ad reads. I'm not as used to doing these every single day. As of course you guys know, we're back after about a six-week absence with the World Cup. Mariners are get on the winning side of things here. After winning two out of three against the Giants, they win the first game of the series against the Reds.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Eight zero today. George Kirby goes six innings. I mean, just an overall good baseball game. You have a couple, you know, good ways to score some runs, whether it was small ball, maybe a sacrifice fly here and there. But then you have the big one with Cal Raleigh in the seventh inning. Like I want to highlight that seventh inning because let's kind of go play by play here. And then we'll get into our unsung hero. Pierce Johnson comes in for Andrew Abbott.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Victor Robos singles, one of his four. hits today. Granted, one of them was blocked by the umpire, so L.A. Dela Cruz couldn't get to it. But Luke Rayleigh comes in for Buddy Kennedy. He singles. Then Colt Emerson. Sack flies because Victor Robles is able to go to third base on the single. So that's another thing that I think Victor Robes brings this team. He gets a stolen base today. And he actually would go to third and would end up scoring the run that Julio Rodriguez grounded out and got injured on. So he scores the first run of the game. And he scores the second run of the game because he's taken extra bases, guys. That's another thing. This team doesn't have a ton of speed. So having him be
Starting point is 00:16:28 aggressive but smartly aggressive on the base pads is so key for this team. Colt Emerson hits a sacrifice fly to left field, which gets Victor Robles in. Then Randy singles and then Weston Wilson doubles. And West my unsung hero, because just at two zero, you, you wouldn't know what this outcome would have been. And I'm really going to go more of an unsung moment here because it was really this play that was so important. It was a good line drive to the right field. I believe that Spencer Steer,
Starting point is 00:17:05 Luke Rayleigh scores, and then Randy Rosaranda gets to third. It kind of really signaled that, okay, the Mariners are ready to kind of get a rally going here. And that's something that they've struggled with. Yes, you can get the bunt over,
Starting point is 00:17:18 sacrifice fly, but actually build. building a big inning, getting a rally together. Caleb Ferguson comes in, then intentionally walks Dom Kanzone to get to Cal Raleigh, and that's when he hits the Grand Slam. This is part of the whole big inning, like building and stringing hits together. That's something the Mariners have missed for a ton during this entire kind of season, to be completely honest, but especially in the last like month or so.
Starting point is 00:17:44 So Weston Wilson kind of really getting things started there. again, Victor Robos taking third base is huge. And then the sacrifice, I shouldn't go unnoticed either with Colt Emerson. He's been in a little bit of a rut lately as well. But even when you're not hitting, getting something done is so key for someone at that age. He had a couple of balls hard tonight too.
Starting point is 00:18:06 So I'm looking for him to kind of break out in the next couple of games as well. But West and Wilson will be my unsung hero. Has to come in late or not late in the game, midgame for, Julio Rodriguez. And you know, you should be ready to play as a baseball player, but that's always a different situation than expecting to play, getting prepared to play, knowing who you're going to face,
Starting point is 00:18:28 all that stuff. It's against the left-handed pitcher as well. So good for him for kind of getting things going. And the Mariners win this one, eight to zero. So that kind of sealed it after that Cal Raleigh, a grand slam. I mean,
Starting point is 00:18:42 you can go through a lot of what ended up happening after that. You still get another run because, of the Cal Raleigh ground out when Edwin Royal couldn't pick up the ball at second base and toss it to L.A. De La Cruz. He barely ends up running that out, by the way, which makes, who is that? Colt Emerson scoring, I think it was. So again, you're scoring, you're both taking advantage of a poor defense in front of so stringing hits together and some small ball as well with some small ball. a couple sacrifice flies, taking the extra base on the base pads, all that kind of stuff. Couple that with elite starting pitching, you won't have to use your bullpen. And that's exactly what happened today with the Mariners going from George Kirby to Nick DeVila, to Cole Wilcox, to Michael Rucker. And you still have all your big dogs available for the last two games of the series.
Starting point is 00:19:38 So that's a huge one. That's it for tonight. Let's do this again, guys. It's excellent to be back. Thank you so much for everyone who was patient and wait. Thank you, thanks to Ty and Colby for filling in the gaps while I was gone. But I'm back. Don't worry.
Starting point is 00:19:54 We're going to last 60 games, guys. Let's go towards the postseason, hopefully more than that as well. So I'm ready for another run. Let's do this. We'll talk to you guys tomorrow. Again, Mariners Reds right after the game. This is the Mariners Postcast. My name's Anderson Hurst.
Starting point is 00:20:07 We'll talk to you then.
