Starting point is 00:00:03 This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. That one felt good. That one felt really good. Mariners win. I think the final was 11 to 2. It certainly felt like it was 11 to.
Starting point is 00:00:29 It might have been 9 to 2. It doesn't matter. Mariners win by a lot. And it is great to see this offense playing well. Hello, everybody. my name is Christopher Crawford. I am solo today. My good buddy Anders is basically taken, you know, he's going to be enjoying himself for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:00:47 So you're going to have to be stuck with me for the next five by myself. Brings me back to my previous days. But what a great win. What a great win. And what a great way to follow up such a good series, right? What a great way to just kind of not make, you know, no matter what would have happened, you win those two of three games, but what a way to make sure it matters. I love when you make it matter. Again, my name is Chris Crawford. Today we're going to talk about Brian Wu, who I thought was
Starting point is 00:01:18 fantastic. The offense stays hot and I'll offer an unsung hero. I'm not sure if there is an unsung hero, to be honest with you. But let's start with Wu, who gets in trouble in the first three innings, gives up a couple of base runners in every single inning. But Brian Wu swing. and miss stuff gets him through this start. It was Brian Wu and his ability to miss bats that gets him through his start. He ties his career high with nine strikeouts. I think he was trying a little too hard in the seventh sixth inning, excuse me, to get those strikeouts because maybe trying to throw bells past guys and didn't work out so well, but thank goodness they have a seven nothing lead. But I thought Brian Wu pitched really well in this game. And it was awesome to see not just
Starting point is 00:02:06 how well he pitched with, and he dominated from in the fourth and fifth inning. Oh, that was Brian Wu at his absolute best. So much velocity at the top of the zone. He was so good in that regard. But he faced adversity in those first three innings. He faced a lot of adversity and he kept the twins off the board. He ends up only giving up those solo dolos, just those two solo homers. That's it. That's the only runs that he gives up in this game. And it may not have been the best stuff I've seen from Brian Wu, but when you combine the adversity that he faced on top of the dominance that he showed at times, by the way, I am confirming it is 11 to 2 right now.
Starting point is 00:02:49 I should have had the box score up earlier, but, you know, you guys are used to me not being very good at this by now, right? It was the best combination of getting through adversity and having that great swing and miss stuff, right? And as David brings up right here, umpires miss called third strike on the first and J.P's error in the second ran his pitch count up. Yep, he probably could have gone seven or eight today. Probably could have gone seven or eight. Now, he wasn't looking good at the end of the sixth inning as well. I think that's worth pointing out, right? Like, those balls were mollywobbed. Those balls were absolutely shellacked. So there is something to that as well. I'm not sure if I necessarily. wanted him to go another couple innings, even with the five-run lead.
Starting point is 00:03:38 But you're not wrong, David. You're not wrong at all. But it was a really good effort. And I think it's worth talking about the bullpen, too. Getting a couple of innings, I guess Zach Pop could be my unsung hero. I'll have to pick someone else now. But two winnings of scoreless baseball from him and then, Edward Bizarro, we need to start talking about Edvard Bizarro.
Starting point is 00:04:01 He's been really good for the Seattle Mariners in the month of June. He has been really good for the Seattle Mariners in the month of June. I'm starting to trust him a lot more, not as a high leverage guy. Like I don't want him pitching the eighth inning of a two-run game or anything like that. But I am feeling more confident of him working in close games in the sixth and seventh, right? Like, of course he's not usurping brash. He's not usurping Munoz. But is he that third guy?
Starting point is 00:04:29 Is he that third guy right now? You could argue at Spire, but I kind of just want Spire. facing lefties right now or lefty heavy, I should say. It's great to have some confidence in Edward Vizarro. And really nice job by Zach Pop too. And I won't make my joke. You know I want to. You know I want to talk about the snap and the crackle.
Starting point is 00:04:51 But he did a really nice job. A really nice job in his lower leverage of situation is possible. But two innings of scoreless baseball staves your bullpen. Staves your bullpen with that quality effort. So it's not the sexiest performance, but you'll take it. You will absolutely take it. A bunch of people bringing up that Munoz doesn't pitch again. I would really, I would use Munoz tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:05:17 I would absolutely use Munoz tomorrow pretty much no matter the score because you're still going to be able to get him in back-to-back games either way, right? You've got to keep him fresh, but you also have to keep him at his best. you have to keep him Sin upon exactly free Munoz it's such a weird thing to say but like
Starting point is 00:05:39 you gotta use him you got to use him that's um that's my only complaint right now is that they've just they've got to use andres Munozs a little more because you just take a risk
Starting point is 00:05:50 you take a risk that he's just not going to have his great command when you absolutely need it I'd rather have him come in after you know a game like today makes sense to use him because let's say he does struggle okay, is he going to struggle and give up nine runs? No, absolutely not. So that's the best time to use a player like that, right? Still, it's hard to complain about
Starting point is 00:06:16 anything that you saw from the Seattle Mariners pitching today. Just those two solo homers. And I just love the way Wu attacked the top of that zone. And just through baseball's by guys, it was 97 a lot. I think there was even 198. If Brian Wu's work at 97-98 with that type of movement at the top of the zone. See you later. You have no shot of getting anything done. All right. I want to talk about this offense, but we're going to take a quick commercial break.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Talk about some people that we really like. And that includes, and this is where Anders is good at this, and Chris Crawford is not. That includes my good friends at wonderful pistachios. And now we look for the overlay because you don't remember how. you did this, but I know he had him overlaid. Wonderful pistachios, boom, I am an expert. Looking for a snack that's both delicious and nutritious, cracked into a good source of protein with wonderful pistachios. You know what I snacked on? Pistachios. And I'm not kidding. I just literally sat in I5 traffic and snacked on pistachios and I was the better for it. It felt so good to get a healthy snack. I don't know what that noise was, but it felt so good to get a healthy snack in me and just have something to crunch on while I dealt with the unbearableness that is driving on I5 at this time of day. Starting point is 00:09:19 All right. Let's talk about this offense because it was terrific. And I just can't say enough good things about what we saw from so many hitters today. The most obvious what is Julio, all right? And I think Anders was being. a little bit, I don't want to say anything mean about my buddy Anders, but he didn't seem to take me very seriously when I said, it looks like Julio's about to break out to one. He looked great today. Now, he strikes out on a pitch that was not a strike, and then he does
Starting point is 00:09:58 pop out and he has another strikeout as well. But he absolutely blasted that Homer, blasted it, just absolutely shellacked. Shalact. And it was a big homer too. It's a one-nothing game. You get that homer to make it three to nothing, and you're feeling real good with how Wu has battled that adversity through that game when you get up three-nothing.
Starting point is 00:10:21 And then just for good measure, in a situation that was meaningless for everybody but Julio, he lines that double into the left field gap. Oh, I love seeing that double. This is my ultimate complaint with Who, It's not the power. I know that Julio Rodriguez has power. Julio Rodriguez some of the best raw power in game. In game he's shown it at times, but like just raw power,
Starting point is 00:10:48 Julio Rodriguez competes with anybody. The doubles haven't been there. And sure he plays in a park that suppresses him a lot, right? Like, T-Mobile Park is a tough place to get a lot of doubles and triples. Still want to see more, especially on the road. It's been great to see at least the doubles have been there for him lately. I think that's five in the last seven games or something like that, or four in the last seven.
Starting point is 00:11:10 And then that's the first home run in 24 games. That's just great. But it wasn't just him. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. It wasn't just him at all. Luke Rayleigh with the two-run homer. That thing was clobbered, clobbered. And Dom-Can zone, it's never been a question of talent.
Starting point is 00:11:33 It's never been a question of raw power with Dom-Canzone. It's been the ability to apply it. He's applying it. Two for four again today. It's dude hitting 308, 357, 6667. And of course, that's a small sample size. Of course it is. It gives you an idea of the ceiling here.
Starting point is 00:11:55 The ceiling of Domkan Zone is potentially a platoon middle of the order hitter. Now, he does get a double today off a lefty, a really bad lefty, to be fair. But like, that's good. It's good to see him have some success against a pitcher that is just in the middle, you know, he's so struggled against same-sided pitching. That's what I was trying to say there. That beggars can't be choosers. I've been really impressed with what I've seen from Dom Kanzone this year.
Starting point is 00:12:31 At least since to call up. At least since the call up. And I get that there's doubters. And there should be doubters because there's, there's a large sample of him being a well below average baseball player. Right now it's pretty good. And as my good is a good buddy Justin puts, he looks good.
Starting point is 00:12:51 We love our good Italian boys. And he is absolutely playing well. Who else had good offensive games today? Randy, another couple of hits, lined a ball down the right field line. He's clearly back at it. Ben Williamson with a couple of hits. None of them hit. Well, one of them was hit fairly hard, you know, bounces over the pitcher's mound and then a very lucky infield hit. A couple of hits, a couple of runs scored. And oh, by the way, he did it again. He did it again, man. Big Dumper, you are something special. I keep using the word special and I used it today when I was hosting for Ian Freness on KJR.
Starting point is 00:13:36 when we were doing Maliwap Monday, when I'm just talking to strangers out on the street. It's one of the most special seasons. It's certainly the most special first half I've seen from a mariner since George Kenneth Griffey Jr. That is, and I was so glad he got that ding-dong too because he was not having his best offensive day.
Starting point is 00:14:06 And the two people that struggled today are J.P. Crawford. He does drive in a run in Jorge Polanco. But it was really fun to see that big dumper just kind of carried it over. And that's a weird thing to say, but think about how good he was in that Chicago series. Think about how good he was through those three games. And that just leads me to my overall point from this is we have seen the Mariners, in my time of doing this, we have seen the Mariners follow absolute stinking. Or excuse me, they've followed absolutely terrific played games with absolute stinkers.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Well, that's two really complete efforts in a row. Really complete. In fact, this one was even more complete because you got better starting pitching. All due respect to Logan Gilbert. And as David points out, Polanco did get robbed. Yeah. Briar and Buxton is one of the best baseball players I've ever seen. and it's so fun to see him healthy.
Starting point is 00:15:11 But it was also fun to see the Mariners handle him and then some. This was a really good win. I'm really happy and I needed this. I got to be honest. I spent a large portion of the day today talking about my favorite stolen basketball team and seeing the Mariners come back or not come back, seeing the Mariners come into today and continue what they did made me feel a lot better, a lot, lot better.
Starting point is 00:15:46 This was a, I've said this a few times and it'll just keep happening, I guess. This is one of my favorite wins of the year. One of my absolute favorite wins of the year, and you have a great chance, great chance to win this series now. You know, at the very least split it because it is a four game series. as many of you brought up. Yes, Zach, I did see that Brandon Roy has committed to you, Dove, by the way, thank you so much for coming out.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And that's fun to see, but it's just awesome to see the Mariners play to their full capabilities. So here's what we'll say. We know what the Mariners' floor is, but we've also seen the ceiling. There have been more than enough of these offensive efforts to suggest this is the ceiling. and that's a good ceiling. Please hit like, please hit subscribe. Really appreciate the support. Really appreciate everyone coming out.
Starting point is 00:16:43 I'll try to do better on the ad reads next time. There's no guarantee. But if you guys could hit like on the video, subscribe, all that good stuff. We really appreciate it. Go Mariners. Go Big Dumper. And go Julio. What a great, great game from Julio Rodriguez.
Starting point is 00:17:03 I like it.
