Oh, boy, that couldn't have gone any worse. The Mariners get swept and shut out in the final game of the series against the Toronto. Blue Jays, 7-0 is the final. 64 and 73 on the season. their third place in the AOS, and they continue to show us who they are as a baseball team.

Starting point is 00:00:42 We keep expecting them to show us something different, but they continue to show us who they are as a baseball team. And that's a team that, A, isn't good. B is mentally weak. C doesn't have the wherewithal, no leadership to fight back. even after underperforming all season long. And this is what you get. This is what you get.

Starting point is 00:01:13 It's just, it's pathetic. It's unacceptable. It's awful. It's not fun to watch. I don't know, man. I don't know where they go from here. It's crazy that we're having this discussion less than 12 months after going farther than you ever have in your franchise's history.

Starting point is 00:01:33 but the blow-it-up discussion has now fully come into place, fully come into place. Especially they just continue to show lifeless games after lifeless games like they have, honestly, the entirety of this season. There's been more games this year that just feel like this, where it's just over before the fourth inning even comes. Than any other year, I feel like, at least in the last, you know, current window, the current core since 2022. It feels like this year is just excruciating in that aspect where they put small bits and pieces of it together and show you that they have the talent.

Starting point is 00:02:23 And then they just, they, they have games and weekends like this, what happened in Toronto. or it's just like they don't give I'm trying so hard not to square they don't give a blank they don't give a blank about anything they don't

Starting point is 00:02:40 they show zero urgency they're soft they it's just and I'm not even pinpointing one singular player at this point it's the entire team part of that's on the manager

Starting point is 00:02:54 part of that's on the players part of that's on the front office for continuously mediocreing their way through what has been or should have been a championship window. And it's just, it's there, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's pitting out, unfortunately. And I, I hope that this is a one-off season and we can get back to the, um, kind of contention discussions. But I'm starting to really doubt that that's the case, guys. Let's talk about the game itself. Logan Gilbert was okay.

Starting point is 00:03:32 Five innings, six hits, three runs, one walk, four Ks. We'll start with the start. We'll talk about the offense or lack thereof. One hit today. That'll be the majority of the discussion, but we're going to do some big picture stuff here today as well. And then we'll try and find an unsung hero. There's not much.

Starting point is 00:03:51 And there's not even an unsung hero today, guys. I'm going to be completely honest with you. And we might have a pretty quick episode, because these guys show that they don't give a blank about, you know, competing this season, then I'm going to show you the same energy. Okay. One hit today. Cal Raleigh, it's the double.

Starting point is 00:04:11 Okay, if there is one positive that you can take is that Cal Raleigh does seem to be working himself out of his slump. And, yeah, I mean, you're never going to look back on his numbers and see that, you know, he had a good year this year. It's never going to happen, right? Even if he goes on an absolute tear for the last month of the season. But the signs of him climbing out of it and that it isn't him just falling off a cliff as a player are there. You got to put it together, though, and then start new next season because it's seeming like this season is getting closer and closer to being over. I called them dead a while ago. And that's more just what they looked like, more than anything.

Starting point is 00:04:55 anything else, they weren't dead in terms of the standings. And they still aren't, by the way, which is crazy to think about, but they look dead. They look completely dead on the baseball field, and it's been the way all year long. So they continue to show us what type of team they are. And it's yet another no-show. This is the thing, guys. It's another no-show in an important game, whether you can win the series or not,

Starting point is 00:05:22 in an important series. and we've just had far too many of those this year, guys, far too many of those. And you can blame who you want for it. You can expect the players to be able to wake up for it without any motivation and kind of get you ready sort of mentality, which is true. They should. 100% absolutely true.

Starting point is 00:05:46 You can blame the manager for just, it's his job to be the least. leader in the clubhouse. And that was that was all what he got praised for all of last year. We were willing to work through the bad pinch hitting decisions and bad bullpen decisions because he was supposedly this great guy in the clubhouse that the players would go to bat for and he had the pulse of everyone in the dugout or in the clubhouse and would be able to kind of get the most out of guys. And we did see that for the majority of last year. But all that's gone by the wayside this year. 100%. So now it's just, what does he bring to the table? He does not. And you can

Starting point is 00:06:34 blame the front office. You can absolutely bring the front office and he can blame the ownership. And I'll put these in the same category here because there have been far too many instances this season. And we learn now that Emerson Hancock is going on the IL before this game. where whether it's leaving guys that are injured to continue playing, Cal Raleigh, Bryce Miller, Brian Wu, now I'm Mr. Emerson Hancock, Matt Brash, or just waiting to call up guys, waiting to make changes, any sort of changes. not even doesn't even have to be player changes just make adjustments

Starting point is 00:07:23 besides firing the third string hitting coach and this is what you get this is what you get a team that doesn't feel like they have any sort of accountability urgency or anything and it's it's just pathetic it's absolutely pathetic so um it's just it's not not good enough on any level on any level it's not good enough from your stars from Julio continues to just be awful recently.

Starting point is 00:07:55 And in a year where Cal Raleigh is definitely going through it and has taken his fair share of criticism, and rightfully so, right, even with his decent couple weeks, he still has a 171 batting average in a 641 OPS. That's where you look to your other guys, your Julios, your Josh Naylars, your Randy Roseranos, Randy's been there. Bad day to day, but,

Starting point is 00:08:20 can't really blame them for anything other than that. But that's where you need your other guys to step up. And they just have not done that. And this is where I'm talking about the mentally weak side of things, right? You can't expect to be the face of this team. And then when your team needs you, not show up. Look, you're going to go through stretches of poor play. Understandable.

Starting point is 00:08:43 It's been a lack of development, whether that's a coaching thing or a player thing, whatever it is, the outcome is a lack of development. And I'm talking specifically about Julio Rodriguez now. There's a lack of focus. We obviously have had those issues this year. There's a now looking at Josh Naylor, after he gets his contract, all of a sudden, I don't need to do much.

Starting point is 00:09:10 I'm already paid. I'm chilling. I'm in a place I want to be. No expectations. It's just all bad. It's all bad. now you're playing Brock Rodden at third base who is not a major league baseball player um i'm not blaming him for anything but it's just there there there's aspects of this team it's

Starting point is 00:09:28 not like it's okay um you know the roster's good but the players are letting him down no no at this point the roster isn't good taylor ward a couple good at bats today but still has not been nearly the player the merriners thought they were trading for um And then just the, whether it comes from the top down, the feeling of, I'm just going to, all right, we lost this one, on to the next one. Let's go. Tough one in the night, obviously is the big name that everyone says. It's so frustrating. And it's getting harder and harder to do these postcasts and say something nuanced and give some more information.

Starting point is 00:10:11 I feel like I want to bring something to you guys. But I don't feel like I can because we've said the same things over and over and over again. okay it's just it's it's and it's i'm done with it i'm done with it um let's take a quick break we'll come back and um try and make more sense of what's going on maybe look forward a little um to the next couple games the mariner's loses one seven to zero um to the toronto blue jays they now go to boston uh tomorrow so we'll see what ends up happening there um Um, yeah, it's just, I don't know, man. I'm struggling to find more words, uh, for what this team is right now and versus what they should be.

Starting point is 00:10:58 And that's, that's another big discussion point is it's one thing to just be a bad baseball team and expect to be a bad baseball team. Right. We've had plenty of those seasons as Mariners fans, but to come in with the expectations, not just from fans, not just from players and coaches, but from the team itself. telling you, hey, we're trying to go win the World Series this year. We feel like we're in a contention window. And not having that happen is quite frustrating indeed. All right. Let's take a quick break.

Starting point is 00:13:56 The Mariners just continue to fail to show up in crucial parts of the season. They lose 7 to 0 to the Toronto Blue Jays muster. Just one hit on the day. Just two walks as well. So it's not like you're getting on base a ton. It's just another yet another no-show for this team in what seems like a kind of growing mountain of those types of games this season. And we're getting, I said this yesterday, we're getting, we're running out of games

Starting point is 00:14:29 to do anything with. And honestly, everyone that's looking at the playoff picture and seeing that, you know, numbers wise, we're still there. I don't disagree with you. But again, just look at the way this team is playing baseball on August 30th, uh, in a playoff chase. Supposedly so. That's, that's, that's not a playoff team. That's just straight up not a playoff team. And for whatever a reason. So the Mariners just, they need to get something going. I don't even know where it comes from at this point. Call up young guys. Call up a royal. Call up Montez. Get something different. I don't know. I'm out of answers, guys. I'm out of patience. I'm out of words. And I expect changes. I expect changes this offseason because this is just not good enough.

Starting point is 00:15:22 Yeah, there's just, there's a lot of things wrong with this baseball team right now. So it's, it's tough to watch them just not even show up to play today. Yeah, I don't even, I don't even know why that is in the discussion, but it has to be. We'll talk to you guys tomorrow after the Boston game. I believe it is George Kirby going tomorrow.
