This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the locked on podcast network, your team every day.
Well, when you're used to celebrating things,
it almost feels like when things are locked up before the game even starts
like it was today for the Seattle Mariners,
that it's weird playing just kind of a normal baseball game for once
where there isn't such high stakes.
But man, the Mariners didn't care about that either because they win this one.
Six to two over the Colorado Rockies complete the sweep, which again can get lost in everything that they're doing right now.
But it's pretty crazy.
You get a bullpen day from Emerson Hancock and Carlos Vargas, whoever you want to kind of view as the starter there.
I guess it was technically Emerson Hancock.
Agent Michael Scarnass, let's see that broom.
I don't know if this really deserves that, to be completely honest.
I appreciate you thinking of me, though, buddy.
Yeah, it is a sweep.
I'll say that.
But, yeah, the Mariners, if you guys haven't heard,
I'm sure you have already if you're locked in to the locked on Mariners postcast
here with myself, Christopher Crawford.
You will know that the Mariners have clinched at least the number two seed moving forward.
Thank you, Detroit Tigers.
But that didn't stop the Mariners from going out and winning once again today.
This team is on a role and at the most perfect.
time to and today you get some uh i don't want to say um not expected guys come through but guys
you needed to kind of get going a little bit uh so chris crawford uh is with me today we'll talk
about i guess the start which we normally do we'll talk about the playoff scenarios as well
a little bit um but and we'll talk about uh how well the offense played today because i think
that's going to be kind of the main story moving forward but chris what was your initial
take away from today's Mariner victory.
This is boring.
What the heck, man?
There's supposed to be something to celebrate every single night.
You're supposed to have the locker room taped up so that everybody can get dosed with
champagne.
You're supposed to.
No, it's another well-played game, another game where, and I want to think the Detroit
Tigers wholeheartedly for not only giving the Seattle Mariners this game,
meaning nothing, but also for allowing me to pay attention to the Seattle Seahawk game without
feeling bad about it.
Yeah.
Edders and I had to do both tonight.
We both had to, we had to cover them, had to.
We are privileged to get to do it.
But we both, you know, it sure was nice that this game didn't mean a thing.
It really didn't mean a thing.
And, you know, if you want to argue, oh, yes, it does for the one seat, I'm still not sure
if I want the one seat.
I'm still not sure if that's something that I'm really all that excited about.
but I'm thrilled with how this baseball team is playing.
We'll talk about the start,
but I thought you got a really good one today from Emerson Hancock.
It's great to see Gino and Randy have great games.
Yes.
And it's also nice that we never have to see.
Well, we'll see him next year.
By Colorado, you're not fun.
You're not good for the sport.
You're really bad for the sport, in fact.
And the fact that you somehow won 43 games is kind of my.
boggling because that roster is just, I'm going to say it, Anders, 10 pounds of crap in a five-pound bag.
Oh, I almost screwed up on.
We should sort of bingo for my terrible catchphrases.
Yeah, let's do it.
Let's see if I can get them all in one episode.
Really solid win.
It doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot because Detroit took away the, took away the kind of luster of what this win would have meant.
It doesn't matter.
You get another W.
you've played oh so well and I'm just gaining more and more confidence in this team.
And I don't think you can talk enough about how big it is to automatically advance to the ALDS.
And there have been mixed results for those teams with buys.
I've seen teams win World Series with those buys.
I have seen teams do really well.
I've seen wild card teams do well too.
But if you give me the choice of getting to advance into the quarterfinals for lack of a better term,
Yeah, give it to me every single time.
And the fact those games are going to be played in Seattle, Washington,
it just makes it even better.
Yeah, to me, it's like, it's a no-brainer.
Because like you're basically just secured a wild card win,
wild card round win, right?
Like, I don't understand why there would be any question
whether you'd want to play in the...
I'm sorry to interrupt.
There's some people who believe that it hurts your momentum.
It hurts that you have to have a whole week off,
where you're not getting at bats.
And, you know, there have been examples of it.
I think it's just more baseball is such a hard sport to predict once you get into the
postseason because so many things can happen.
And, you know, I believe it was Earl Weaver and Anders, he's way past your time.
But his famous quote is, momentum is your next day starter.
The next day starter is really what momentum is.
And I also just, you know what?
I have so much faith in Dan Wilson right now.
Like, and the faith out locked in, no put intended,
over these past couple of weeks that I don't worry about it.
Why?
I don't worry about five days off.
I think it's awesome that you get to set the rotation exactly the way that you want it.
Yeah, and it's weird.
You said something that I never really thought, I would say,
but I totally agree with you.
I have faith in Dan Wilson to get these guys ready to play.
And once again, like, I realize that, you know,
I myself, Chris, to a some extent, but to a lesser extent, we've been hard on Dan Wilson
throughout the course of this season.
I mean, I called him a coward.
Let's get that clear.
Like, I literally called homeboy a coward, and I apologize about that, Dan.
I also apologized immediately after saying it because it's way too strong.
But yeah, we've been critical of a guy who deserve to be criticized.
That's the way this works, is you're supposed to give them credit when they do stuff right,
and you're supposed to let them know when they do stuff wrong.
Yeah, yeah.
And, but I think, especially with the Brian Wu situation,
having those five extra days could mean the difference
between him pitching and him not,
to be completely honest at this point.
So that's something where I think the rest is so much more important to these guys.
And again, I just, I have faith in everything that's going right with the Mariners right now.
I don't think that stopping playing for five days to get off your feet for a little bit
is going to stop that. I really don't. Maybe I'm completely wrong. Maybe because they're on such a
big run right now, what is this? 17 and 1 in their last 18 games. Yeah, I believe so. That's crazy.
Maybe because you're on such a good run, you just don't want to stop playing. You feel like that's
that makes more sense to me. That's more about, and that's the momentum argument, right? Like,
you just want to see these guys play. You know, there will be some people, and I'm not going to be one of them,
who may argue that you may want to see the same.
Seattle Mariners lose a game or two against the Los Angeles Dodgers to kind of like,
you are one of those, have your losses come right before the end of the Cies.
I can be those people. I can for sure. But at the same time, I just have, I, I've never had faith
in a team like this as an adult. Never. And technically at 18 years old, you are an adult, but no,
you're not. You're absolutely freaking not an adult. You don't know what the hell you're doing in life.
Are you kidding me? Now that, and I still don't know.
what I'm doing at 42. Let's be completely honest here. But I legally have more responsibilities as
a 42 year old. I've never been this confident in a Seattle Mariner's. Yeah, it's a weird because
in previous situations with the Mariners, whether it was the last two years missing the playoffs by
one game or the 2022 year, even when you went to the playoffs, you almost feel like you had to root for
certain situations for the Mariner's in the best position to succeed. I almost don't need to feel
that way. And we've we've kind of been singing the praises of that in a different way where everyone was
talking about the, uh, you know, what needs to happen with the scoreboard watching for the Mariners.
And I'm just like, I don't care. The Mariners can take care of their own business if they win the
games they're supposed to. And by golly they have. By golly they have. They sure have. And let me,
let me, it's not even a pushback. Let me just say the one thing that we could ignore about that.
Because of the scoreboard watching and because everything,
right for the Seattle Mariners, you got to get this done so much earlier because of those results
that happened. Because the Detroit Tigers turned in to the Springfield tire fire, because of the
fact that the Texas Rangers, after just being as hot as anybody just completely plummeted.
And because the Houston Astros have just not been the Houston Astros, that's been huge because
you get, yes, the Mariners were going to take care of business because of the way they've played.
I think they have a five-game lean in the division now with three games to play, right?
Like it's going to end up being blowout adjacent.
Yeah.
But that's partially because of scoreboard watching.
Did we have anything to do with it?
No.
But those losses did end up helping the Seattle Mariners.
And now you get to set the rotation the way you want.
Now this series against the Dodgers and go out and watch it because you get to watch
the very best player to ever play the sport and show Hey, Otani.
But it doesn't matter if they win or lose those games anymore.
It just doesn't.
Yep.
And I think that's a good feeling.
And once again, it's another good feeling to be able to watch baseball playoffs in the
wild card round without having to really have a worry.
That's such a great point.
You can watch those four games now and get that popcorn ready.
Yeah.
And you root.
You know what you root for?
Whatever, whether the one sheet or the two seed, you wrote for carnage,
cannibalization, 16 inning games.
Some have the Detroit Tigers win
and they have to start Troy Melton
and Kiter Montero against you
in game one and game two.
That's absolutely what you root for.
By the way,
this is a little inside baseball
for you. I have to travel
Monday. Anders knew that.
Oh, how glad I am that I don't have to come back
Tuesday from a 6 a.m.
flight and watch a Mariner game
that would have assuredly been at noon.
Assuredly been at noon.
I would have been, here's another bingo spot, matter than a wet hen, having to watch a 12 o'clock
baseball game after that.
So thank you, Detroit Tigers, for winning today and losing a hell of a lot more earlier.
Well, Chris Crawford, did you know that there was a game today?
Yeah, kind of.
There was, believe it or not, even though it was relatively.
I mean, when I say relatively, I mean really relatively inconsequential in the grand scheme.
of things, especially compared to the last few nights.
But the Mariners did win 6 to 2.
Let's start with the start, as we always do.
Emerson Hancock, looking at his line, obviously,
with him being originally, kind of, not originally,
but lately a bullpen pitcher, having him go four innings,
that's more than I expected, to be completely honest.
Dude, Emerson Hancock was phenomenal tonight.
And, yeah, we have to acknowledge the lineup
that he's facing, you just have to do it.
But to say he passed the eye test, in particular, his control tonight was outstanding.
I believe 39 of 51 pitches that land in the strike zone.
I was almost not disappointed, but yeah, I'll go disappointed a little bit and surprised.
Go give him another inning so he can get a win.
Like get him that chance for that W.
Emerson Hancock, I personally believe, has been unfairly maligned.
in 2025. There have been some absolute clunkers. Don't get it wrong. Like there's the start he had
against, funnily enough, Detroit to open the season. I'm still not sure Blaine Crim is a real thing.
Cineabon here says, come on, guys, they have Blaine Crim. He's probably real, but I've seen a lot of
AI stuff lately that's just maybe not. Like, you know what's funny is? The only reason I know he's
real is because I somehow have like five autographed Blame Crim cards.
Nice.
So weird.
So weird.
But Emerson Hancock was fantastic tonight.
And, you know, you can't help but wonder how much this gives you confidence in potentially
deploying Emerson Hancock in a game.
Now, it's probably going to have to be something where you're on the plus or minus
four sides of things.
Yes.
You know, one of those situations, you're certainly not, you know, unless you go into
extra innings or something like that.
But hey, Dan Wilson now has to have a little bit of a tough decision here.
If I need multiple innings, do I go to Bryce Miller or do I go to Emerson Hancock?
Or, hey, I'm so confident in Emerson Hancock or Bryce Miller that I feel confident using the other one if bad things happen or really good things happen and you want to have those guys give you multiple innings.
And more importantly, and, you know, Ty and Colby, long term stuff, et cetera, et cetera.
this is the type of start that reminds you that Emerson,
Hancock does have a future as a starting pitcher in this league.
It's a back end starter.
There's no question about it.
It's a back end starter.
But either in that role or potentially high leverage,
if he commands his fastball better when he's throwing it at higher miles per hour,
he's got a role in this league.
And Emerson Hancock did an excellent job tonight.
I sure wish he could have came away with a W with it.
Yeah, and it's one of those where it's never been,
I don't want to say he has plus stuff,
but it's never been a question of his stuff,
to be completely honest.
It's a question of how much he can command it
and then avoid the walks.
And I know those are sort of connected,
but I'm kind of not at the same time.
So those are the two things for me
that's been kind of his bugaboo.
Oh man, I just,
I'm sounding really old today.
I said golly G and bugaboo in the same episode.
It's a great Destiny's Child song too.
So that's good.
But that's been his issue, honestly.
So seeing, and again, like you said, it's against the Colorado Rockies.
So you have to put that into perspective.
But hey, every team gets to face him.
So everyone, like, has a chance to pitch against him.
So I think, I don't know how confident I feel with him in a actual playoff-ish situation,
whether you're, like you said, up by four or down by four.
So that's still a big question mark to me.
I'm thinking more towards the next couple years
in terms of his development
and you have such pitching depth
that but we saw finally with this year
that you're going to need more depth
more than just five guys in the rotation
so having that sixth, seventh guy
is going to be so key for the Mariners moving forward.
Okay, let's talk about the offense
on the other side of the break here
because I'm really interested to hear your thoughts
about a couple really big candidates
for what could be big players for the Mariners when they push for in the postseason.
So we're on the Mariners postcasts here.
Myself, Anderson Hurst.
I got Christopher Crawford with me of Mile Y, of the Mollywap boys, of NBC's Roto World,

Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast here, Anderson Hurst, Chris Crawford with you.
We are breaking down a Mariners 6-2 victory in what is compared to the rest of the
this week has been one of the most boring days of the.
Mariner Baseball in a good way, in a good way, guys, because the Mariners, before the game even started,
have clinched the number two seed at least in the playoffs and secured that first round by,
which I think is huge. You can kind of rest your guys. I know you're writing a momentum shift right now,
but you basically just won the wild card round. In my eyes, that's exactly what just happened.
So I will take that all day every single day. Chris Crawford, we got a comment here.
Claire Jones says the longer the season goes, the more I will have to learn about the ED pills.
So it's just the way it goes, man.
Some people, you need the extra help and it's totally fine.
Whether it's with Fandle with your bets, whether it's with your ED pills, whether it's with your hair.
It's just everything.
We're here to help you out here on Lock.
By the way, I just wanted to let everybody know.
Okay.
But let's talk about the offense because, boy,
you needed to see some bounce back from Randy Rosalena, Gino Suarez, I think specifically.
We talked about this a little bit last night with who needed to kind of have a bounce back
a day or week or series, however you want to look at it heading into the playoffs because
those two guys need, they're going to be your everyday guys.
They're going to play every single day in the playoffs.
You need them to be productive and to see what you did out of specifically Gino for me.
So what did you see from the offense overall today?
really solid effort. And it was great to see that on a night where, you know, this game ended up not meaning a whole heck of a lot. You want to perform well. And it's one of the cool things about baseball. Nobody's going to go into a game. It's not like the NBA where you have a big lead and you're looking to run out the clock. It's not like the NFL where you're going to run the football a whole bunch. Baseball has a bunch of individual moments and you want to pile up your stats. You want to do better. It looks better on.
of your baseball card. For a lot of players, it matters for arbitration. Those stats are something that
your teams use for or against you, usually against you. So it's not like I'm like, oh, I'm so surprised
the Mariners tried today. But what I liked was there was still a really good approach at the plate.
There were six walks today. And does some of that have to do with the fact that Bradley Baylock is
really, really, really bad? And relievers who, oh, I forget the first names of right now.
now, but let's take a look at the ERAs today.
You face 9.36, 7.27, 10.19, and 6.75 contract the Colorado Rockies.
But the approaches were really good. Really solid approaches today.
I'm so encouraged what I've seen the last couple of days in particular from Gino Suarez.
And he looked good at the end of the road trip, too.
He did a solid job in those final games in Houston.
And then he played the disastrous game on Tuesday, right?
He looked awful.
He kills 0 for four.
He makes a careless air.
Well, since then, he's been locked the you know what in.
And I want to see that 50th Homer so bad.
That outside of Cal getting to 63 and a spoiler alert for anybody who didn't watch,
Cal does not get to 63.
I can talk about an unsung villain.
That's for dang sure.
for this baseball game.
Oh, yeah.
Who was that the walk in the way?
We'll talk about it in a sec.
But Gino looks legit again.
Gino looks legit.
And, you know, Randy has a very nice day at the plate.
Josh Naler has a solid day at the plate.
Mitch Garver, nice job.
It's going to be really interesting to see how they deploy Mitch Garver in the postseason.
I was going to bring that up.
So if you don't mind, I'm going to transition to that real quick before we talk about Gino.
because Mitch Garver for me,
that was a big kind of,
I don't want to say,
it's not a big performance
because again,
it's the Rockies.
And we just read the ERAs
of the pitchers that they were facing.
But I,
this,
ready or not for it,
he's probably going to play
against left hand of pitchers.
And guys,
the New York Yankees have two of the best
left hand of pitchers in the game of baseball.
If you're going to be facing them at some point,
you got Max Reed,
you got Carlos Rodon at the top of that rotation.
You're going to see Mitch Garver.
I was like,
I just,
I feel it in my veins.
right now. They're not going to start Dom Kanzone in that game. They're going to start Mitch
Garver. So he needs to be in a good spot offensively because I think we're going to need
all the help we can get when it comes to the big moments of this season. So seeing him do what he did
today, two hits, doesn't get a walk, but he looks like he's seen the ball pretty well at this point
in time. Good to see from him. Gino, yeah, I mean, when you're three for four, it wasn't even the
home run that was good for Gino for me today.
It was the single the other way, which you
never see Gino do.
But that's a signal
for me who's someone who is as dead
pole hitter as it possibly gets,
Eugenio Suarez. He pulls
the breaking ball the other way.
He's done that so much. And that's what's made
him, I think, take that next step this
year. He's talked about it. He changed
his approach a little bit. He tries to get out in front of
the breaking ball and hit it before
it gets to home plate, basically.
And he did that exactly on his
home run, but he hits the fastball the other way for a single.
And it doesn't end up scoring a run at that point in time.
But that's something that when you're seeing the ball well, you just put the bat to the
ball and he can do that.
So if that's where he's at right now, he has as much upside.
I'm not going to say as much.
But Cal Rale and Julio Rodriguez have a step above.
But he has as much upside as Randy or Rosarena in terms of how good they can be when
they're hot.
So it's going to be, it's going to be something that I'm going to be continuously
watching. So that's a big step for me if he's going to be that guy.
The big thing for me with having a guy like Suarez in the lineup on top of, you know,
just good is that there are guys that you have to change how you pitch to the guys in front
of. There's not a lot of them. But Gino is one of those guys because when you get a couple
guys on in front of him, the risk of that three run homer is ever so palpable, right? Ever so palpable.
where so you have to change how you pitch to Josh Naylor and how you pitch to Jorge Polanco
because you want to avoid that beginning and that beginning is ever so possible when you have a power threat there.
I also wanted to point something out with Mitch Garver and I realize nothing's going to convince anyone
that Mitch Garver is a flawed player at worst or at best, excuse me.
Away from Team Mobile Park, he's a 245, 311.
420 hitter. That's not great, but that's a 730 OPS. That's totally fine. And if you're facing those
lefties in Yankee Stadium, yeah, I want Mitch Garber in the lineup over Dom Canzon. Do I want
him in the lineup over Victor Robles? Of course not. But Victor Robles is going to be in the lineup
because of his defense every single day in the playoffs. It's going to be Canzo's going to
D.H against right handers and Mitch Garber's probably going to D.H. against left handers.
Sure, I wish he wasn't an automatic out in Team Mobile Park.
I really do.
But Mitch Garver is a perfectly competent player when he's not hitting in Seattle, Washington.
And you're going to have to win games away from.
No, we all need our whipping person.
We all need our scapegoat.
And Mitch Garver is that guy because he makes money.
Let's be honest.
It's a large part of it.
And the fact that he hasn't been good enough.
Yeah.
But Mitch Garver is not that bad guys.
He's just not great.
not even close to great.
I mean, he's a backup catcher that sometimes deities.
Right.
Yeah.
But at the same time, he's going to be a guy that probably plays a role,
a bigger role that a lot of people want on the poster roster.
That's totally fair.
And I will feel a lot more confident when he's batting away from the friendly confines.
It's a weird thing to say, no, it's not.
Seattle.
As Matthew points out, the last time he went to the playoffs,
he was dynamic with Texans.
really good. And there's a reason he's he made some money to be clear.
Yeah. He absolutely made some money there.
Somebody brought up and I'm sorry I lost it. Maybe that short porch in Yankee Stadium
a little more tempting with Dom Kanzone. I just need somebody who can get on base.
And Mitch Garver has shown that he can get on base against left-handed pitching away from Tebow Park.
Yeah, and we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. Obviously, we don't know the mayors are going to be facing.
Nope, last tomorrow, baby.
Let's go.
I wish it was, man.
But I also am kind of glad it's not
because guys, behind the scenes,
I am exhausted.
I need this Monday through Friday off as bad as anyone.
So that's another reason why I'm happy they get the buy.
I'm going to be completely honest with you guys.
But thank you so much for tuning in.
The Mariner's postcast here,
Anderson Hurst, Chris Crawford.
We are live right after every single Mariner baseball game here on 93KJRFM,
as well as the Locked on Mariner's YouTube channel.
please check out Ty and Colby. They have awesome stuff. They have daily episodes.
Their last three have been awesome. Every time that we are done going live, I go straight to
their videos whenever they upload. And it gives a different perspective. They're different guys.
They have different analysis than myself and Chris does, but it doesn't make it any less
valid or anything like that. And it doesn't make it more at the same time. It's guys who have
different perspectives. And that's why I think I love what we're doing here on Lockdown,
Mariners. I appreciate all y'all.
tuning in every single day.
But that's it for this one.
Mariners win 6-2.
Oh, Chris, who's your unsung hero today?
Sorry about that.
My unsung hero is going to be the locked-on Mariners chat
because you guys, a bunch of you reached out after yesterday,
and I cannot appreciate it enough.
I cannot.
It was so nice to hear.
So many warm things in the chat,
so many warm things in the comments.
A few of you reached out via Instagram.
message. A few of you reached out via blue sky. Oh, it meant a lot. It means a lot to know that you guys
care. And sometimes I struggle with that. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just talking to an empty
space. But that's one of the reasons I love doing this is seeing the chat and seeing all of these
nice messages. It means a lot. So you guys are the unsung hero today. And I'm going to,
I'm going to double down on that because, uh, you know, we've grown a lot as a channel over the
past few months and it could not be for any other reason than you guys. You guys are the reason
why we do this. So my unsung heroes also, however you support us, whether it's listening on the
podcast, whether it's watching us live on YouTube, whether it's now listening to us live on 93.3K
JRFM, we couldn't be more appreciative for having this community because I've said it multiple times.
Sometimes being online can feel toxic in a lot of different ways. I have not felt that once with this
locked on Mariners community. So I really appreciate you guys.
Come in hang out with us every single day. After every Mariners game, we're going to be
continuing to do this in the playoffs. And I think I'm going to tease this a little bit. I haven't
gotten this official word out, but I think we're going to do some watch parties for you guys
during the playoffs. So I'm really excited for that. So you guys can just come hang out with us
to react to the game in live time. So that's going to be so much fun. I cannot
wait to experience just more of this Mariners fun right now. And I'm doing it with the people that I
love most, Chris Crawford included. So I appreciate all y'all. And Chris, you're the man. I love doing
these with you. Appreciate you. It's been so much fun. And please check out these next three episodes.
Like I know we'll definitely have postcasts and stuff like that. But like we'd really appreciate
to finish the year strong to keep building this fan base so that we're ready to roll for that postseason bound.
Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun.
Let's keep it rolling, guys.
Mariners win 6 to 2 to win their 17th of their last 18 games.
It's just weird.
I feel like I'm in Dreamland at this point.
I keep forgetting that they are one Matt Brash catastrophe away from having one of the longest winning streets in a long, long time.
That's a really good point.
That's exactly what happened.
That's crazy to think about it.
We'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
Really appreciate all y'all.
Dodger series start tomorrow.
I meant to look at the probable pictures.
so I'm going to do that right now.
George Kirby versus Emmett Sheehan.
And that all could change.
Let's just be 100%.
That could change because the Dodgers have nothing to play for.
They are locked into the three seed.
Seattle Mariners actually have more to play for than the Dodgers.
But right now is Emmett Sheehan, not Joe Sheehan.
It would be funny to watch him pitch, if I'm being honest with you,
against George Kirby.
Be curious to see how DP goes on Friday.
We'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
have a good one.
Just enjoy it.
Last word, Chris Crawford.
Go, Ems.
