This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. That was much needed, guys. That was much needed for a large portion of this game. It looked like the marriage were about to stare, losing the first three games in the face of this amazing, or sorry, this very important series.

but that is not the case now. Thank you to Dom Canzone, to Randy Rosarena as well with the back-to-back Homer. And then Dom-Cand zone once again to add on the insurance run because, man, it looked like for a while that this team was dead. It looked like it was absolutely dead. And they still could be. I don't want to get too hyperbolic.

But at this point, you've staved off what could have been, towards the end of your season. But that's not the case anymore. If you figure out a way to win tomorrow as well, you kind of are back to just clawing and scraping to get back into this division fight because you've now moved up to second place in the division after Houston's loss.

And you're just a game and a half back of Texas for the top spot. So I mean, a win is a win. It's, we'll take them however we can. Maybe that Dom Canzone home run. And you could tell there was an exertion of emotion. There was a kind of letting it out sort of feeling with him. You definitely heard some swear words on the broadcast. Let's bleep and go many times.

And I love that from Dom. But it was two guys that like have done it this year. It was Dom Canzone and Randy a Rosal. arena, right? And I don't want to overlook the Randy home run either because if he doesn't do that, it's a tie game when Ezekiel Duran goes long or goes yard in the following inning. So that's one of those situations where that can easily be overlooked. But man, good for Dom to get that just massive, massive three run, home run, easily the moment of the game, the moment of the series for the Mariners.

If that's something that kind of gets them jolted, that would be huge. And yes, I know there's a lot of people that are frustrated with the Mariners' lack of ability to string hits together. That's not specific to the Mariners. A lot of teams in general need to slow to move on in games, to win games, to score runs. but they are specifically vulnerable when they don't hit the home run. More than other teams are. So it felt like, and honestly, it felt like just, I don't know, like getting over the hump, maybe that's what kind of gets these guys woken up.

Maybe that's the moment that really gets them going here because getting that moment from Dom just, I can't overstate how big that was. And he showed something in that at bat that no one else had showed up until this point in this series. And that's that this series matters, right? It absolutely matters more than just another, you know, one of your series and in 162 game season. So I do, I don't want to overstate that

because it's so, so important that these guys come out and win tomorrow as well. I think they'll be kind of out for blood a little bit. So a huge win for the Mariners. They were down four to one, sorry, three to one, when Dom Kanzone came up. And it was looking like things were not exactly in a good spot because they had many missed opportunities before that with a couple guys on base.

But he delivers 111 miles per hour. exit velocity for a 400 foot home run, an absolute no doubter, with two outs, by the way, as well. And like I said, it looked like they were going to come up empty once again. And you could easily see fans' thoughts, players' thoughts, even management's thoughts, if that were to end up being the case, that they would go down and kind of start to look at, selling at the deadline, start to look at next season. Yes, you're still would be in it at that point. But yeah, I just, I feel like that moment is so, so huge for Dominic Canzone.

But Mariners win this one, six to four. Let's start with the start with Logan Gilbert. A very Logan Gilbert start, it feels like, at least for the last two years, where he goes five and two thirds. He actually doesn't get the quality start. I forgot he had to come out for. for the last out in that sixth inning. So, but five hits, three runs, all earned, two walks, four Ks.

If it weren't for like two little pockets of hitters for Texas, he would have been absolutely dominant today. But I feel like that's something that he's struggled with before, whether it's just not necessarily one big inning, but like one big moment where a couple hits in a row and just, or a couple walks in a row and then he lets in, you know, a big gapper. or a three-run bomb or something like that.

So that is a very Logan Gilbert start, doesn't get the quality start. But other than that, I think he looked great today. It's just the Mariners don't really have a true ace right now. And they're kind of missing that because, yes, their offense is struggling, and that's the big part of the reason that they are where they are right now, not leading the division. A couple games under 500. But if you were to have an ace that could come out and just absolutely shut down any lineup,

like a Felix back in the day or something like that, you would be able to, they call them the stopper when you're in a losing streak and the ace comes in. It's just like, I am not allowing us to lose this game. The Mariners don't have that right now. He kind of used to be Logan Gilbert a couple years ago back in 2024. For whatever reason, he hasn't been that. He wasn't that last year. isn't that this year. And even when, like, you know, Brian Wu or Bryce Miller are, you know,

at the top of their game, Brian Wu last year, Bryce Miller this year, it never feels like it's, okay, the hitters on the other team have absolutely no chance. All we need is one or two runs and we can win this game. That's kind of the main piece from the Mariners starting staff. But I'm getting greedy there because, you know, they're not the reason why the Mariners are not in the position they want to be right now. The starting pitching has been fine, if not good, compared to, you know, where they want it to be. It's been the offense.

So let's come back. Let's discuss a couple big moments in this game, both on the positive and the negative side, because it looked like for a while they were going to come up empty in the sixth inning. They did come up empty. That was a huge moment for Seattle. And then in the seventh inning, they didn't come up empty. So we'll kind of compare those two situations here on the Mariners Postcast after a six to four win over Texas.

You have a chance to go split the series tomorrow. So after those first two games, if you were to come out with a split, you feels like a massive win. And I know going into the series, if you were to offer a series split, you wouldn't probably take it. You would want them to go win the series. but again, after those first two games, a split is just a huge win for this team. And then you're going to have to go do it against the Dodgers coming up here later next week.

So let's take a quick break. We'll come back and we'll discuss kind of the two big moments in this game offensively for the Mariners because they were very much different ways of going about it. My name is Anderson Hurst, huge six to four victory for your Seattle Mariners today. they have a chance to split the season series with, or not the season series, I should say, just the series here with Texas. You got George Kirby going tomorrow against Kumar Rocker.

So hopefully they're able to do that. And we have a much different conversation starting tomorrow after the game than we would have had. And it really looks like we were going to have after those first two games of the series. I want to compare the two situations. We can look at what Texas did leading up to that point you get in the bottom of the first, you know, Logan Gilbert, really one of his only blips of the day. Right off the bat gives up a double to Jock Peterson, then Wyatt Langford singles, and then Zeke Duran hits a sacrifice fly before, you know,

or Logan even gets an out. I guess that technically would be an out for the sack fly. Texas gets a run in the first three batters. But then after that, he shuts it down. He gets, I think, nine or ten in a row after that. Things kind of, you know, calm down for Texas. And then you get the Koyung triple on a fly ball to Evan Carter. And then Julio Rodriguez sack flies him in to tie it up one, one.

then in the fourth inning, you know, you're actually threatening a little bit to take the lead with, you start with a Josh Naylor single, and then a Cow Raleigh gets a single, and then you get strikeouts from Luke Rayleigh and J.P. Crawford to end things there. Still one-to-one at that point. But really, it ends up being the sixth inning because that's where after Texas, gets two more in the fourth. Evan Carter singles in Brandon Nimmo, and then Nikki Lopez singles in,

uh, uh, Jake Burger, I believe it was, uh, to make it three to one. And it really looks like at that point, it was going to be a tough situation,

um, for the Mariners to come back. They do kind of get things going in the sixth inning. Let's go through that, uh, sequence here. Again, starts with Tom Kanzone,

then Randy Rosarana singles, um, first and second. They get Jacob de Grom out of the game. You bring Robbie Alstrom into the game. Josh Naylor lines out just a piss missile to second base. Unlucky for him, but then Cal Raleigh with an awful lap, strikes out.

It makes it two outs. They bring in Weston Wilson instead of Luke Rayleigh, and West Wilson strikes out. And you go empty-handed after getting the first two guys on base in the sixth inning. Really looked like things were going to get rough there. But then Tyler Alexander comes in. J.P. Crawford grounds out. Colt Emerson singles, good for him. Cole Young singles, another good day for Cole Young. They bring in Cole win to face

Julio Rodriguez, so they go back to the righty. Julio Rodriguez flies out, but then, and so there's two outs now, but then Dom Canzone, just an absolute tank to right field. Really good at bat where I think he went 2-0, maybe even 3-1. I forget the exact count, but he knew that a pitch to hit was coming. And he's been as good as anyone at not missing those mistake pitches. You know, sometimes he can look overmatched. And that's going to happen with big league pitching. But he's been someone who's been very consistent when he works himself into a good count.

When he knows that a pitch to hit is going to come, he does not miss it when it does come. an absolute tank to give Seattle a lead a three-run home run just like that. And he flips the game on its head. Then to not go unnoticed right after that, Randy or Rosarena on the very next pitch hits a home run. There was a very frustrating kind of moment in the game earlier with Randy when I believe Josh Smith was playing third base. It was one to one at that point. He throws over to first.

the throw is way off target, but Jake Berger stretches out to stop it from going by and is still able to get off the base and come back to it because Randy Rosarana is not sprinting to first base. If he would have had any sort of urgency, he would have been safe on that play. And again, that's not something that makes you lose this game, but it's it was a moment when the Mariners were really struggling that shows you, man, this team just doesn't care or they don't look like they care. There's no accountability. But then Randy hits the Homer and that's kind of an encapsulation of what Randy's season has been. He's been actually a very productive

offensive player. It's just sometimes there are plays that really just make you want to pull your hair out with him. But you can't overstate the importance of that home run because right after in the seventh inning, actually, sorry, it was the eighth inning. Zika Dran hits a home run to make it five to four. So without Randy's, you know, second home run to get on top of that, that's a tie game at that point. And I know that the Mariners add another insurance with Dom Kanzone's double in the top of the ninth. But it turns into a completely different game when it's a tie game. Maybe you don't bring on Andres Munoz because it's tied.

Maybe Texas goes to a different reliever because it's tied instead of your downer run. There's just such a domino effect with that. So Randy's home run was actually really, really big. And I know everyone was caught up in the three run home range. This is very next pitch. It's kind of hard to appreciate it. But that happening, I also think symbolizes that maybe that was the breaking of the dam, right? The big thing with this Mariners game is, yes, they need to hit home runs.

but I think even more importantly, they need to slug. They need to hit extra base hits, doubles, triples, home runs. That's been something that they've really struggled to get going. They've actually gotten a double-digit hits in the last like three or four games. 14 today, but it's just a bunch of singles. And it's so hard to score runs when you're just hitting singles. You have to get a double here. So you can score a guy from first.

You don't have to hit three straight. singles to get a guy in, right? So, and especially a team that doesn't walk a ton like the Mariners don't. So that's where it becomes really, really big. It's not just the home runs. It's the slug. They need to double. They need to triple.

And they need to obviously hit the home run that obviously really, really helps as well. Let's go my unsung hero today. Cole Young, once again, I mean, Canzone gets three hits. Randy gets three hits. But Cole Young, I think this is his third straight multi-hit game. So really good for him. I think he's really starting to kind of work his way into that leadoff spot. And I think it's a good spot for him.

If he could get a little bit more on base into his game, I think that would be a huge development for him. That's something that I'm watching for because he obviously has the contact tool. He's been showing some pop as well. If he can get some on base, man alive, that would be great. add some walks to your game. I think that would really improve because I know it seems like he's hitting the ball really, really well right now, a 255 average,

but it's only about a 716 OPS. And if he just adds a little bit more on base to that kind of toolbox that he has, that's something that I really think would kind of take him to the next level as a player because his defense is there, his contact is there. He has some pop too, so good to see. But again, guys, it's, it's, it's, it's, and it's dumb. The two guys with three hits, big one is Dom today, obviously, but Randy can't overlook that production either.

The two guys that really have been the only ones getting it done all year long. Both of those guys are the only ones in the 800s for an OPS for a Seattle Mariner, 844 for Dom, 827 for Randy. It's, I mean, eventually you're going to need Cal and Julio and Josh, to step up. They didn't do that today. But it's been the guys that have been for the 2026 season. And it's Dom and Randy that really kind of save you today.

And avoid what could have been a disaster. Because if you lose the first three games, go into tomorrow. And if you win, you just get one. That would be a huge difference. And if you lose, you just got four games swept. And the season might be done at that point. But especially with just a few days away from the trade deadline. but the Mariners don't do that.

They went six to four. Thanks to Dom-Kanzone. Really, Dom-Kanzone was the main reason today. It's an absolute tank job to right field. And then absolutely just when they needed him most. In a moment that was very much begging for a clutch moment, Dom-Kanzone comes through and he lets out some emotion. I miss you too, Chris.
