This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
How long have I told you guys this team's dead?
Nothing's changed.
Nothing's changed at all.
Nothing's changed.
It's just the same crap every single night.
Over and over and over.
again.
As we exit a
what should have been
celebratory weekend
and enter into what should be
a
home stretch of
competitive
baseball to determine
a playoff spot slash division
champion. The Mariners
are falling further and further
away from
where they should be and that is
competing for the division.
competing for the playoffs and competing for the World Series.
What's so mind-boggling to me is that this is the same team
that was eight outs away from the World Series last year,
and they look so different this year.
They look so lost,
and as soon as they get behind, it's like it's game over, right?
As soon as they hit any sort of adversity,
it's it's almost as if they just don't want to even try
I don't know man
this this team's pathetic to watch right now
my name's Anderson Hurst I'm hosted the Mariners
postcast as they lose 4 to 1 and get swept
by the Tampa Bay Rays on your 50th anniversary celebration weekend
and what a way to celebrate 50 years of Mariners
by having a team that has the talent
to be one of the best teams in the American League.
Really, it does, if you look at it.
And you celebrate 50 years of Mariners' mediocrity
slash below mediocrity with a complete waste of talent.
And that's what this team is.
And at 56 and 63, you are rapidly falling off the pace
in the American League West,
rapidly falling off the pace in the wild card.
If this, let alone the actual games lost,
if this baseball that you're watching continues for the next two weeks,
this team will not be in a playoff race by the end of the year.
It'll be the first time since 2020, the COVID season,
where that wasn't the case.
And we are, we're approaching one of the most disappointing seasons in Mariners history.
if this continues.
Obviously, there's been worse seasons of Mariners baseball,
countless worse seasons of Mariners baseball.
Don't get me wrong.
But in terms of comparatively to expectations,
this team was supposed to be,
you know,
on the precipice of competing for the World Series,
overwhelmingly the favorite to be the American League West champion.
overwhelmingly the favorite to get back to the playoffs
and should have been one of the best teams in the American League.
And you're sitting August 9th at 56 and 63.
Third place in the West.
And I don't know, but the games, because the games aren't finished today,
you're at least four or five teams in between you in a wild card spot.
That's bad.
That's extremely bad for this baseball team.
They just don't really do anything right.
Emerson Hancock once again wasn't very good today.
He goes, 4.2 winnings pitch, nine hits, two runs, both earned a walk and 3Ks.
Not like him throwing a gym would have changed much, but their pitching's not helping them, guys.
Their pitching's not helping them at all.
for air give up two runs it's and you're feeling out of it by the time you get to the sixth seventh inning
but it's the offense that's the main issue i mean cal rolley's borderline if he was anyone else
and i mean literally any any other name on this roster and he didn't just have the 60 homer season
and came up second in MVP voting last year,
there would be talks about sending him down to AAA.
No joke because of how poorly this guy is playing.
It is absolutely pathetic.
161 batting average, 570 OPS,
and he now officially has a worse batting average
than before he went on the aisle since he came off.
the aisle.
So it's not the injury, guys.
It's not the injury that's making him play as poorly as he is right now.
He's just, he's broken.
He's a broken baseball player.
And I really hope this year's already lost in terms of his numbers.
This year's already lost 100%.
And I feel like this year's already lost in terms of what he's going to bring to the
table.
I'm expecting nothing from Cal Raleigh for the rest this year.
And that's extremely sad to say, considering we have basically two months left to baseball
to play. I'm expecting
nothing from
Cal Raleigh. I hope
it's just one year. That's the point
where we're at right now with him. I hope it's just
this year. I really do
because if this this lingers
any further
than just this year, we are
in a world of hurt
for this baseball team moving
forward. Josh Nader gets
a hit. Julio Rodriguez
goes O for three.
Does get a walk. But
Two K's.
Canzone gets two hits.
Cole Young gets two hits.
Taylor Ward gets a hit.
That's it.
Six hits compared to 14 from the Tampa Bay raise.
And look, credit to Tampa.
They had a bullpen day today.
The fact that they can just roll over and be like,
yeah, we don't need to start or start.
Or we'll throw a bullpen day and be good, totally good.
It's a sign of a good baseball team.
It's a sign of a team that is managed really well.
and they do the little thing as well.
They hit the ball.
They put it in play.
They use their outs very effectively.
And they're not even this world beater of a team.
They have Junior Caminero as one of the best players in the American League,
but then a lot of good players around him.
But they're not this Murderer's Row lineup.
They're not this Murderer's Row pitching staff.
they just, they're managed correctly.
They get, they're the epitome of squeezing every little bit of results out of a much less,
uh, talented group of players.
The, the definition of greater than the sum of their parts.
And that's what I wish the Mariners could be.
And if that were the case, like the sum of their parts, period,
if they played just to their potential, not past their potential,
they would be leading the division and they would be competing for one of the best teams in the American League.
If they were just playing to their potential,
let alone playing past their potential at this point.
It's just, it's so, it's frustrating, man.
And I'm, as someone who does Mariner post game shows here on the Lockdown Mariners Postcast,
it's getting old, it's getting really old.
And I realize I stepped into it when in 2025,
when the Mariners had one of their best seasons of franchise history, arguably their best.
Right.
So there was down to be some downsides as well to that.
But I did not expect this this year.
I really did not.
I struggle to counter.
for those who say that the season's over
because it feels like it is at this point.
And the way you watch them play baseball,
the season's been over for two weeks.
Been over three weeks.
But you can still say
they're two weeks of good baseball away
from being right back in it.
I just don't think that's coming, guys.
I really don't.
First step is firing the man.
manager.
Because you can't do anything else roster-wise right now.
You can't.
You need to send a message.
50th anniversary is over.
You have no excuse anymore.
You need to fire the manager.
Dan Wilson needs to be done as a mariner's manager.
Let's break.
Let's come back.
Talk a little bit more.
I'm really tired of going in-depth in these stats because it's just, it's going to depress me.
We'll try and find some positives.
We'll find an unsung hero from today.
just catastrophe.
As we continue to
break down just a pathetic season
of Mariners baseball here on the Mariners Postcast,
we'll be right back.
A big thank you to our friends at Amazon
for this limited break.
This back-to-school season,
spend less on your kids with Amazon.
We all know how crazy
the back-to-school shopping experience can be.
It starts with a few items on the list,
and then suddenly you're shopping for supplies,
clothes, lunch gear tech,
and about 10 other things you didn't see coming.
it adds up super fast.
When it's 9 p.m., the night before school starts
and somebody suddenly remembers they need folders,
notebooks, markers,
and apparently 12 other things that nobody mentioned until now,
nothing gets the heart rate up quite like emergency school shopping.
I'm convinced.
Primes delivered tomorrow before 7 a.m.
feature was created exclusively for parents in this situation.
So remember, with Amazon's low back-to-school prices,
just spend less on your kids
because every dollar you don't spend on them is a dollar you haven't spent on them
because believe me, you will eventually spend that dollar on them.
Shop back to school at Amazon and spend less on your kids.
Welcome back, Manor's Postcast.
My name is Anderson Hurst.
I'm dejected.
I am depressed.
And I'm tired of breaking down the same game over and over and over again.
The Mariners get one run early thanks to a Taylor Ward triple Cole Young
singles him in and it seemed like the boys were finally starting to do something a little bit
different than they had done in years past. But that was it. That was basically the extent of the
offense today because after that it was just nothing happening. And it was against, you know,
a raised team that what, through Ian Seymour out there,
a guy that has a 4.080 all right you know fine he's having a decent season he's nine and three mostly thanks to his offense around him
one point one three whip but he's not the guy that should be dominating you he's not it's just pathetic
i mean going down the list of uh box score here taylor ward your leadoff hitter who supposedly
is leading the american league in walks i still have
yet to see that. I don't even know if he's had a walk yet in a marrying uniform. He goes one for five
today. Um, Cole Young goes two for four. Good for him. Randy Rosarina, O for four. Dom
Kanzon, two for four. Julio, O for three, but he gets a walk. Josh Nader one for three. Cal
Raleigh, O for four continues to struggle. Weston Wilson, O for three, Colt Emerson, O for
four. I mean, there's just not much to take
positively from this game.
If I'm really thinking about it,
I guess Bizarro had a little bit of a bounce back effort.
He goes one and two thirds,
just two hits,
no runs, no walks,
no strikeouts though either,
but gets through his almost two innings of work.
That'll be my unsung hero for today.
But the more unsung hero
is the fact that this season's like almost over.
We still have, you know, six weeks left.
But the fact that we don't have much more of this
just crap task.
baseball experience that I'm watching this year.
Or one step closer to Dan Wilson being fired, hopefully.
I mean, I don't have a ton of faith that that's going to happen during the season,
but if they miss the playoffs, there is no excuse not to at this point.
So that's, I guess, my unsung hero for the silver linings that were taken here.
I don't know, man.
Just not a lot of good, not a lot of good today.
in a Mariners team that just looks dead,
looks out of ideas,
looks lost,
looks like they don't care,
it's over.
I mean,
it's really not if we're looking at,
you know,
the standings and how many games are left,
but if you're watching how this team's playing baseball,
it's over.
I don't see anything that's changing
what this team is doing at this point.
So,
oh, man.
that's baseball tough one tonight
tough one today
we uh we got a new
what what three and six on the home stand
after everyone was just hoping that that would be the turning point
going in coming back home
but don't worry you get to go on the road to face the Yankees
Astros Brewers
Cubs and Phillies
in the next five series
that should be fun
that should be absolutely fun
just a loser franchise.
I'm sorry.
It sucks because I'm a huge Mariner fan,
but I'm a fan of a loser franchise.
We'll talk to you guys after the Yankees game.
Have a good one.
Enjoy the day off.
Enjoy not watching this baseball team tomorrow
because I will, believe it or not.
So we'll talk to you after Tuesday's game.
Have a good one.
Go, Mariner.
