Starting point is 00:00:04 This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. All right, so the biggest question for me is who's going to be the unlikely hero tomorrow? Because we've gone from Leo Rivas to Harry Ford to Mitch Gart. Just the three guys you would totally expect to be the game winning heroes. My God, the Mariners win this one. clinched the win in the Los Angeles Angels series.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Two to one victory. The bullpen was nails again. Luis Castillo does his job excellently. Mitch Garver comes up with a huge home run and Jorge Polanco with the other RBI. We're at that point of the year where every win is huge, no matter what situation you're in. It just doesn't matter. They continue to grind out wins. That's their seventh in a row.
Starting point is 00:01:05 And they needed it because every other team that was behind them, or ahead of them or wherever won tonight. So Chris Crawford, what was your thought on the game tonight? They just continued to get it done. My favorite part about this win, and there were a lot of favorite parts about this win, just because, you know, it's a win in a game that losing would have been kind of devastating.
Starting point is 00:01:24 I guess that's my favorite part, because the Houston Astros played like a wagon today. The Texas Rangers played like a wagon today, and they gained nothing. Now, they stay. they stay in ground so you can't say the win is meaningless, but you don't gain a jack crap. You don't gain a thing because the Seattle Mariners, even though they weren't great tonight,
Starting point is 00:01:48 well, a couple of guys were great tonight. But even though the offense was pretty darn bad tonight, if we're just being completely honest, you still get the win. You still grind out a win. And it's another game. I think this is of the games I've done. And again, thanks Sanders for holding down the forward.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I know I showed up for a couple minutes. No worries about it last night and didn't even think about it the night before that. But I believe this is the fourth straight game that I have done where someone makes a massive mistake and then redeems themselves entirely. Totally, for those of you who are old enough or young enough, I guess, to remember dumb and dumber,
Starting point is 00:02:31 it is totally that you can't do anything stupider and then you do something like this and totally redeem yourself. This is, this is fun. This is so much fun. And we now have, I believe, exactly 14 games left. It's two weeks of baseball games. Appreciate this, guys. I know it's going to be hard.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I know there are going to be times where we want to strangle, not just the Seattle Mariners, but Seattle Mariner fans. And it's going to be tough. But this is fun. This is fun. This is fun. It's been a long time since the Mariners were in this position, this position where you control your own destiny to win the division. Superb start, really good bullpen pitching, and just a huge clutch moment as well from the offense.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Let's start for that start. I think when you said a few guys were really great tonight, I assume one of them is Louise Cassie. Yeah. Yeah. And did you watch Scrubs? No. Oh, okay. Elliot, one of the love ofatrice of JD has a I told you so dance. And if I was feeling better, I would be doing the I told you so dance because does it just, and I understand, especially for us, right? We react to every single man. I've been on Luis Castillo. I understand. I'm talking about, you know what, the 292 people in here and a bunch of people I talk to, I talked to somebody when I was picking out my prescription the other day about how concerned he was about Luis Castillo. And I said, just. give me my drugs and leave me alone.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Not really, but I wanted to. Luis Castillo's a really good pitcher, guys. He's a really good pitcher, and he had a rough month, literally, a month, barely a month. I think you usually make five starts in a month. I think there was four bad ones in a row. You can't just ignore the other 16, but again, I get it. We're doing a daily show, and we were honest that Luis Castillo wasn't good in those starts. But we never panicked.
Starting point is 00:04:34 We never said Luis Castillo was without reclamation. We never said that Luis Castillo was a bad contract or anything like that. And, you know, we're not tooting our own horns here. We're just saying it, right? Like, Luis Castillo has been so much more helper than herder. And he was fantastic tonight. And here's what I loved about it. We talked about it in the start against Atlanta, right?
Starting point is 00:04:55 It was about the secondary stuff. The secondary stuff. The secondary stuff was okay tonight, but that fastball was clicking. that fastball was clicking and he just missed having like an eight or nine strikeout game. There were just a couple of pitches that were right or wrong. It's tough to tell with the Apple one. If I'm being completely honest with you, how much those were strikes. I know the umpire was on the same delay everyone else was apparently with Apple.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Good and great latest strike calls ever. Man, oh man, Luis Castillo was good tonight. But it was the fastball tonight. It was the fastball. And that's great to see. It's great to see. that that wasn't gone. Yeah, he started to struggle a little bit in the fifth inning, or excuse me, in the sixth inning. And you could argue it was a mistake to bring him out for the
Starting point is 00:05:40 seventh. I personally didn't have a problem with it. You're facing the bottom of the order. And the worst thing that's going to happen is Luis from Grifo singles. Okay, he gets on base. You should be able to get out of that inning without a run. There are some mistakes made there. It's too bad Luis Castillo doesn't get the win. The Seattle American is doing that's the most important thing, but I thought Luis Castillo was fantastic. Yeah, I don't hate the decision to throw him back out there for the seventh. I know because of the situation the bullpen is in. That's a big part of it too.
Starting point is 00:06:13 You're kind of just like, please, I know it's probably not the smart thing to do if you're trying to win this game specifically. But that's, I think, where you are right now. I don't like, I am not thinking about the long term. I'm just not. We're not at the point of the season where we can do that. We have to win every single game that is there for the taking. So I thought to win today's game, it was the best decision to, you know, start with the bullpen arm.
Starting point is 00:06:38 It is what it is. Vargas ends up getting through it enough. And then Garver comes up huge the next inning. So it ends up, I don't want to say not mattering, but you end up overcoming it, I should say. Let's talk about the bullpen. You just watch them throw six shutout innings on the road. Thank you so much for watching, William. I, I, come on, come on.
Starting point is 00:07:00 I get it. He's better at home than on the road. But did we not just watch him throw six shutout innings against Atlanta on the road? Yeah. Yeah, we did. Atlanta's pretty bad, though. Like, they are. So is the freaking angels.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Yeah. The bottom of that order for the angels right now is the worst in baseball. I don't know what a Bryce Tio doggio is. I know I don't want it. I know that's not something that I want. I don't want that on my team whatsoever. I don't want Logan Davidson on my team. I don't want Sebastian Rivera on my team.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Holy crap. That is a bad baseball team. Jolly makes a good point too. It's not just him. I'm just curious who this great guy on the road is other than maybe Brian Wu. And even him, it's like he has like a tooth something at home and it's like a four something on the road. It's just the way it is, guys.
Starting point is 00:07:49 It just is. Yeah. Yeah. Again, I totally understand the frustration too. Yeah, I do too. It's the same thing with the Julio starting off slow. in the beginning of the month. At the end of the day,
Starting point is 00:07:57 half of your starts are at home and half of them are on the road. It doesn't really matter when you do your good and bad starts, as long as it ends up in an okay place, right? Yep. Okay. Breathe, breathe. Yeah, this is just a huge win. I just, it's,
Starting point is 00:08:13 we're at the point of the season, again, where every one of these is so huge. And it's, I love it. I absolutely love it. I'm living with every pitch here. I honestly say, like, besides the one, I don't even want to say a mistake. Just like I would have done things differently,
Starting point is 00:08:28 but I see the other side with throwing Castillo out there in the seven. I think Dan Wilson managed one of his better games tonight. I agree. I agree. Yeah, he did a fantastic job tonight. I like the decisions that he made with the bench. And I also, you know, this team looked fired up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:44 It would have been real easy after you give up that run. Can we quickly before we go to the commercial break, talk about the top of that inning? So Louise Castillo, Well, fastball runs a little bit over the plate. Luis Rangipa lines it into left field. That run should not have scored. And Mitch Garver, who ends up making the big play, right?
Starting point is 00:09:05 Yeah. Got to catch that ball. You got to catch that ball. And then you have to make a better throw to shortstop. And then I sure would like my shortstop to make that pick. I don't know if you get him anyway, right? Yeah. But like, there have been some OLAe moments from Crawford lately that have really frustrated.
Starting point is 00:09:23 me and yeah that run shouldn't have happened that rush could not have happened and i know it's a tough play i still think i want my first base when making that play too a thousand percent and you know what somebody brings this up that um uh that uh that uh luke raleigh runs like phoebe i have i have mentioned this several times he absolutely does oh that's so funny but the comparison that i made um over the um, uh, over the internet today was that
Starting point is 00:09:59 Louis right now Luke Rayley is Phoebe Goufay Bufé mixed with Hans Molman. He's not seeing anything. Like he dove for a baseball today and he caught it. That there was never a need. There was never a need. Not even a little bit. And on that ball that gets by him, didn't need to dive there too. Did not need to make the dive there.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Josh Niller makes those. place. I, Ty and Colby, if you're listening to this right now, I think you guys need to have a talk about whether Luke Rayleigh belongs on the postseason roster. That's a really, really good question, honestly. Yeah, especially because, I mean, I don't know if Don Canzon does either at this point. Like, I think he has to. He's just, he's been too good offensively. You got to have something not lately. Not a ball off over the fence. That's, that's the only reason why I would carry Canzon over Rayleigh right now. Okay. All right. Yeah, I mean, would too. I'm just saying like it's sliding scale obviously.
Starting point is 00:10:57 So yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. Let's take a quick break. We'll give some love to our sponsors for the show today. Comment in who your unsung heroes. I'm curious where Chris Crawford's going to go here. This episode is sponsored by Luis Castillo being a good major league pitcher. Anyone who doesn't believe that can can leave if you want to go and, you know. I'm shocked. I'm shocked. At what? that there is Castillo hate in this chat. It's always going to happen.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Some people desperately have to be right, I guess. But thanks for continuing. Yeah, yeah. If you're here on a day that he goes six innings of one-run baseball when you absolutely needed it, like come and enjoy it, I guess. Thanks, guys. Okay, we'll be right back after the break here on the Maritor's Postcast. You've probably seen a million ads for hair growth products and thought, sure,
Starting point is 00:11:53 like, that actually works. There are so many products out there, and it's hard to know which ones are actually going to do anything. That's why you should give Nutrafol a closer look. Nutraful is the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement brand, trusted by over one and a half million people. And it's not just hype. This is a supplement. It clinically tested that targets the root causes of thinning and shedding with the proactive approach.
Starting point is 00:12:17 I couldn't recommend it more. It's something where I've mentioned it the last couple episodes. I'm a former soccer player. I really, a lot of my identity is tied to my hair. So if I were to ever start losing it, it would be something I need to react quickly with. So that's where Nutraful comes in. I highly recommend it.
Starting point is 00:12:41 As soon as that starts to happen for me, I'm going to do that 100%. They're the first place I am going. The thicker, stronger hair with less shedding in just three to six months with Nutraful. For unlimited time, Nutriful's offering locked on MLB listeners, $10 off your first month subscription and free shipping. When you go to Nutraful.com and enter the promo code locked on MLB.
Starting point is 00:13:01 That's NutraFle.com promo code locked on MLB. Hey, Anders, the NFL season is here. And Fangdoul is making sure you're ready for kickoff with a can't miss offer. Am I betting on the Huskies to win? Am I betting on the Cougars to lose? Are you betting on just the individual stuff?
Starting point is 00:13:40 But there's so much more you can do with Fandual. And my favorite part about it is it's super quick. Like, you have, don't have to like start your lineup on Friday. You can get all your information that you need on Sunday and then make your lineup so that you could play in the daily fantasy sports. It's super easy. It's super quick. Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast, sponsored by Luis Castillo, is good at baseball. Anderson, hers, Chris Crawford, with you. I really appreciate you tuning in. I'm sorry. I've no stop doing that. But it's, I mean, it's just, it's true.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I think if at this point for me, he's one of your three postseason pitchers. Like, he's starting one of your three games. Daniel, I'm so sorry. You're 100% right. When Anders said he hadn't watched the show. I don't even know what that means. I didn't want to get into like a five-minute diatribe about like her importance to the show. Elliot, is one of the best characters, period, on television. She's fantastic, but I did not. We get yelled at enough about a runtime. I'm not going to do 10 minutes on scrubs.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Okay, sounds good. As you bring up scrubs for another five minutes. Okay. I was like 30 seconds. Come on. Let's talk about the offense a little bit. Where do you feel, I mean, you say we all, say, Kakuchi. You say I say we all say Kakuchi. It was pretty, pretty good today. And does he call his own game? Is that why I saw the pitchcom on his belt?
Starting point is 00:15:37 I believe so. Okay. I believe so. Yeah, especially with a guy who was, you know, a catcher that he's almost assuredly not terribly familiar with. A little bit of a language barrier there too. So I think he was probably calling his own game. Tons of credit to him. He was fantastic. I will say this. I do not miss the you say Kikuchi experience because it's the most maddening experience in the entire world. There are days where he looks like one of the 10 best pitchers in baseball. And there are days where you wonder like, do you designate him for assignment in the morning so that there's no claim or what do you do here?
Starting point is 00:16:11 Like it's and there's nothing in between. There's nothing in between. It's just such a frustrating experience. And he was terrific today. He located everything. So I'll give him credit there. There were some bad at bats tonight to be. be sure. But nothing that really makes me go, oof, this guy was really terrible today. There was
Starting point is 00:16:30 no unsung villain for me offensively today. I don't think so. But the Garver Homer, that was massive. Absolutely massive. And, you know, I was wondering, hey, do you pinch hit for Garver here? You have the third catcher. You have Harry Ford. Do you feel comfortable? Locke was kind of mad they didn't in the moment. And that would be the process there? Yeah. I'm not sure. But, Man, the one thing match Garver has not lost his bat speed, folks. He can still get that thing through the zone very quick. And Connor Brogden threw an awful two-strike pitch. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Mitch Garbert took advantage of it. Great moment from a great dude. That's very fun to see. You saw how pumped up his teammates were for him. Absolutely. These guys love Mitch Garbert. The pitchers like throwing to Mitch Garver. Love pitching to Mitch Garvert.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Really strong moment from him. I'll just give my unsung hero right now. the catch from Victor Robles to, hey man, you needed that. You needed that. I was done at a sixth, correct? Yes, and it wasn't like that baseball was absolutely like tard or anything like that. But it was hard.
Starting point is 00:17:36 It was in the gap. Robles was not playing in that position. He gets back, and I'll tell you right now, Luke Rayleigh and Domconzone, do not make that catch. No, sorry, heck no at all. They do not make that catch. So that's my unsung moment, unsung hero. Victor Robles is not the same.
Starting point is 00:17:52 same offensive player he was last year and he's never going to be again in my personal opinion. And that that's okay. He still has a ton of value to this baseball team and he saved their bacon in that case. Yeah. And I still think honestly, maybe he's not just if you look at the numbers, he's not as good as Canzone. I still think right now he's a better offensive player than Dom Canzone. So I think he needs to be in the lineup.
Starting point is 00:18:15 Better overall player for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So running and yeah, all that stuff. Yeah. Yeah. No, no, he gets caught ceiling tonight, too.
Starting point is 00:18:22 It's just a bad jump. It's going to happen. I like being aggressive. My unsung moment, so Luis Castillo comes out for the seventh. He, sorry, that's bottom six. So actually, it is the seventh inning. Yeah. Okay, so he comes out.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Luis Renifo singles, they take him out for Carlos. For Carlos Vargas, Oswald Praza strikes out. Then you, Logan Davidson, double. and that's where they score the run to tie the game. You're still not out of it at that point. Joe O'Dell strikes out and then you hit Bryce Tiodosio, okay? Yeah. But Mike Trout comes up with two guys on,
Starting point is 00:19:04 and this is an uh-oh situation. I was blanking my pants at that point. And yeah, Carlos Vargas, nasty pitch to get him out. He looked fantastic. He looked fantastic. And I saw some people in the chat saying that we've been hard on Carlos Vargas, I think we've been totally fair on Carlos Vargas, but it is what it is. The thing with Carlos Vargas has been, there's just been no swing and miss whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:19:30 I believe, no, the strikeout to Trout was looking, but it was a nasty pitch. He had two whiffs on that at bat, though. But yeah, he does. He, when he, if he can miss bats, he's going to be a high leverage reliever. There's also things from Carlos Vargas that drive me insane. And that's okay. He's a literal rookie, literal rookie. really impressive job.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Really nice job by Spire and Andres Munoz once again absolutely filthy. I mean, it's good. I think it's fair to say Andres Munoz is back. He went through kind of a dip in the middle of the season
Starting point is 00:20:01 and not even a dip. Like his numbers were fine. He had like two golden saves. Like what are we doing? But it's just he didn't look as dominant. He's bullied back to be in that dominant. Sure. And the thing is with a guy like
Starting point is 00:20:13 Andres Munoz or any reliever is got to give up run sometimes. Right. There's a few guys who have, have that 1.02 ERA or something like that. And usually the next year, the ERA is about 3.5 because you have to give up runs. No matter how good you are, the baseball gods are going to say, hey, you give up runs. Now, it happens. It just happens. So I never had a huge issue with Andres Munoz stuff. The command clearly wasn't the same earlier in the month. Or excuse me, in August. There were some
Starting point is 00:20:44 definite command issues. But man, that stuff is just filthy. And I have, so much confidence in him. The nice thing is, too, because you use Vargas, I think you probably should be able to go with Brash tomorrow. Ferguson should be available tomorrow. Bizarro certainly will be available tomorrow. Having said all that, Brian Wu, if you want to give us seven innings. That would be great.
Starting point is 00:21:10 If you want to give us seven innings, I really wouldn't mind it. Maybe you get that 10 strikeouts final. Oh, please, please, please. I mean, if there's anybody you can do it against it. It's the Angels. This Angels team. Mike, I've never seen a lineup that is more top heavy, even though the top isn't all that good than the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Like, would you want anyone other than Mike Trout and maybe Taylor Ward and Yomankata to be on your Major League roster there? I know he didn't play today, but I like Zach Nito. Yeah, yeah, that's what I was like as I spewed it out of my mouth. And I'm just like, he didn't play today. So like, yes, technically. Yeah, it's really bad. Joe Adel as well.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Yeah, and, you know, there's some stuff there with Joe Adele. I think he would be miserable in T-Mobile if I'm being completely honest with you. But, man, that's a bad baseball team. But you took advantage of it. You take advantage of it. And I expect Brian Wu should just shove tomorrow. Yep, we got Brian Wu versus Mitch Ferris for a second straight. I don't know who that is.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I don't either. And it's not, we got two more. more, Anders. We've got two more. That's right. It's a four-game series. I'm getting ahead of myself. But hey, let's go for a second straight, sweet. I'm saying it. Let's go. Why not? So that means you haven't secured the series win. Okay. My fault, guys, I apologize. What was that? Chris Crawford tried to whisper to you guys. I didn't hear it. I don't know if you guys did. All right. We'll talk to you guys tomorrow. Really appreciate you tuning in.
Starting point is 00:22:54 such a pleasure to go live right after every single married baseball game. I don't know what Chris is laughing about, but I'm just going to try and focus to close out the show here. Yeah, Maritors win this one, two to one, win their seventh in a row. Let's go for eight tomorrow. Brian Wu's on the mound. I feel pretty confident about them getting it done. So come tune in after the game.
Starting point is 00:23:16 It's 640 start, not a 7-10, thank God. And thank God there was no extras today. I would have been miserable. We'll talk to you guys then. Have a good one. Go, Mariners.
