This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the locked on podcast network, your team every day.
Massive series win for the Seattle Mariners.
Anderson Hurst here, Christopher Crawford here in your Mariners Postcast.
Woo!
Got closer than it probably needed to be.
But Ehueheneoswires comes up clutch once again, and he is officially hot.
I really like where he's at right now.
Hopefully the Astros lose a little bit later today.
We'll wait, kind of see how that goes down.
Come on, Colorado.
Really, really would hope for that.
Yankees do win, though.
So they're starting to heat up as well.
You get almost a Brian Wu start from Brian Wu.
One third of an inning away.
Ends the streak of six innings or more.
It was bound to end sometime.
I honestly think it was the wrong.
right move to Poland. And we can talk about that for sure. But man, I think the story of the day
has to be at Eugenio Suarez because he kind of, he kind of took over the series a little bit,
even in the loss yesterday. But Chris Crawford, what are your initial thoughts on the series
win against the San Diego Padres? Five out of six gets a good team. That's really good.
Yeah, the Vitter Cup is over. Long live the Vitter Cup. Let's never have that again.
This is one of, I keep saying things are one of my favorite wins.
You know what I really liked about this win?
The Seattle Mariners had almost everything go against them today and they still come out on top.
There were so many unlucky moments in this baseball game that the Seattle Mariners should have had better results or at least there was a coin flip in the result.
Didn't go their way.
But the Seattle Mariners still did enough to get this win.
and getting a series win against this Padres team who have been playing excellent baseball,
it's huge.
It's absolutely huge.
I feel so confident about this baseball team.
I got nine on the road.
And hopefully, to be fair, too, they're playing teams that aren't as good as the nine that they played before.
And I know we're just recapping today, but we can't help but lead into what's going to be happening over the next week plus, right?
Yeah.
this was a massive result getting two out of three.
If you wanted to be a negative Nelly, you really should have swept.
You really should have had that win yesterday and you're feeling superb.
But two out of three against the San Diego Padres who had everything go right for them in this game, you still come out on top.
Yeah, I almost take it as a positive that you should have swept.
You know what I mean?
like you prove that you're the better team than a very good team like over the course of an entire
season it wasn't just this series either it's not like you just caught them at the right time or
anything like that you beat them squarely throughout the entire uh season series and uh i understand
for a national league team that's only just two series but right potteries are really good
like they're a very good team they're at least a top three team in the national league so um
i think that's a very good stepping zone for this marriage team who really really
needed this homestand a little bit because it's going to be another kind of rough go.
I don't say rough go of it, but it's not going to be easy pickings in the next couple weeks.
So a must, must get, I think today was a massive game.
You feel so much better about winning this one.
Let's start with the start.
Brian Wu, what did you see from him?
It seems like it was all systems go, Brian Wu, for the first, you know, four or five
innings, and then a little bit of trouble in the fifth.
And I really applaud Dan Wilson for pulling the plug when he did and not trying to get him his six innings in a must-win game.
Yeah, I'm there too.
And you could have argued he probably should have pulled him a couple batters earlier.
But he didn't.
And if the game wasn't close, I would have let Wu try to keep going.
I would have, it would have been worth it for me if it was a seven-two game to give him that chance to, you know, have that self-inflicted damage.
make it a little bit closer.
Not in a 4-1 game.
Not in a 4-1 game.
You can't let him keep going.
There's just too much chance for damage.
I thought Wu was excellent today.
In the sixth inning, just babipped.
Just totally babipped to death.
And for those who aren't familiar,
batting average balls in play,
just some bad luck.
It wasn't a bunch of hard contact.
And the Padres hit some good pitches.
I thought Wu was excellent today.
I thought his command was outstanding
for the overwhelming majority.
I think he issues the one walk and hits one batter.
I was really impressed with what I saw from Brian Wu today.
And I keep going back and forth on who the ace of this team is.
I don't know who it is.
But I know that Brian Wu is really good.
I know that Brian Wu was a very strong pitcher who put together a good game.
And then, you know, the two runs that score,
there's a ground ball up the middle from Gavin Sheets that I would really like
one of my middle infielers to knock down.
at least keep it in the infield.
The exit velocity was decent,
but it had an expected batting average of 250,
which is right around average, you know?
So I'm not saying that it's like,
it's a play.
It has to be made.
I just wish I saw my shortstopper,
my second baseman,
make that play up the middle more often.
At least knock it down.
And then Gabe Spire comes in.
And just such bad luck.
Yeah.
The squaring to butt and then hitting
someone always gets me because you can kind of get away with getting a little closer to the plate when that happens too.
So I don't know. It's just it is what it is. Yeah. And you know, some I, by this is a very interesting comment. Hated the decision to pull Wu. Don't care what's more strategic or whatever. I want to see ball players do cool stuff. I honestly think that's a fair comment. I get it. If you're watching baseball 162 games a year, I totally get it. There's two different sides to look at it from. I do think that side is fair to say,
you had a chance for him to make history.
And if you want to go hindsight,
hey, it technically didn't work out that great
because you give up that run.
But at the same time,
I think it was the right decision to pull him
because I just think this win was too important.
It was too important.
I have so much faith in Gabe Spire.
The cool stuff is cool, no doubt about it.
But I think it was more important to get Wu out of there.
And it kind of worked.
You know, they give,
They give up one more run, but this is a game that you absolutely had to win.
I did not have a huge issue with Dan Wilson making that decision.
No.
I think it was a perfect balance.
You said he could have done a couple of batters earlier.
I think, okay, he deserves a little bit of leash to try and get through the six innings.
When that looks like, okay, we are in dangerous territory here.
Let's go to Gabe Spire, the guy can get him out.
Again, he said he ends up hitting the batter, which walks in the run.
It's like super unlucky.
It's not like he had a bad pitch or anything like that.
Right.
Just the way it is.
And then he strikes out the next guy.
And he does what he needs to do.
And also it's worth pointing out the batter before that, Wu's last batter,
the guy hits a ball about 14 feet at most.
And Wu just isn't quite able to make that play.
Like it was bad luck.
But Brian Wu was fantastic.
I really wish the streak was going.
I do wish that the streak was over,
was not over.
But I don't have an issue with how the streak ended.
Yep.
I'm all in favor of winning baseball games.
And we've talked about it with Dan Wilson before.
Sometimes it feels like he manages to the back of the baseball card a little bit,
whether that's only putting Munoz in a safe situation,
whether that's keeping Brian Wu in just to get his six innings,
even in a close situation.
I loved the, he played the line really, really well,
balanced of letting him have a chance to do it.
But then at the point, it's like, okay,
we need to win this game. This is what the thing that helps us win this game the most at this
point in time. So, uh, okay, on the other side of the break, we'll talk about the offense because
there's some good performances. I want to ask a couple questions regarding the top of the order
how we're looking there. Uh, and then, um, you know, we'll do our unsung hero as usual.
I don't think there's an unsung villain today unless you really are feeling negative, but, uh,
I feel like we're doing pretty good. So, um, uh, we'll do a quick break, come back, talk about the
offense on the other side. Are you still paying?

Don't get that wrong.
Our app reads have not been updated.
So, you know, if you really want to go back in time and make the
those futures bets and you have a time machine do that like i'm sure you can uh you know wait a little
bit longer and then wait to see what happens and then you use the time machine go back make the
bets and boom you're good to go so back to the future too made a lot of money for this reason
exactly you know go back get that almanac and do what you got to do boom there you go um welcome back
to the postcast Anderson hurst uh Christopher crawford by the way i just got a text from ty
dan gonzalez if you are just thirsting for uh mariners content they will be doing their own post game
show right after this on the same channel.
So be sure to tune into that.
You'll get kind of different takes from them and then you do from us.
Just it's awesome.
I love how we kind of have two different ways of looking at the game a little bit.
You know, Chris and I kind of on a daily postcast basis.
And then Ty and Colby take things a little bit more 30,000 feet,
but then in a situation like this where it's a big series win during the middle of the day
when their podcast are normally posted, it's a good opportunity to check in to see what
they have to say.
So be sure to check that out right after we're done.
with the show today.
Oh, Chris, who do we got there?
It's Molly.
I mean, many.
Sorry, you're not Molly.
You wish you were Molly.
All right, let's talk about the offense.
You know, not a perfect day, but a couple big performances.
Number one, obviously, Ehayvani Oswez with the three-run Jack.
Was it three or two run?
I think it was three-run home run.
Yes, three-run home run.
Just not just that, but he had another hit as well.
He's really starting to lock in a little bit now.
It feels like we talked about this when we traded for him that he was going to be a streaky guy.
So it's easy to see when he first came here and him really struggling to be like,
uh-oh, as he cooked, as the kids say, no, he's just a streaky guy.
He's figuring it all out, getting his life back in order after moving cities again.
He's fine, guys.
He's totally fine.
So, you know, any other, you know, instances you want to point out from the offense today?
first of all, I've just incredibly distracted.
Edward Bizarro is currently being interviewed.
He's yoked.
I had no idea that Edward Bizarro is yoked.
He's got like a linebacker traps.
Yeah.
So there's our new Dylan Moore.
There's our new Dylan Moore.
It's nice to see another strong guy on the lineup.
Yeah.
So all credit to Gino whose kid is the reason they win this game.
Yes.
I loved what happened before that, though, because Julio,
lines that single into right or excuse me into left uh steal second base gets to third on the poor
throw then josh naler draws that walk and then the big boy damage from aohenio swars that was
really the only good offense of inning for the mariners today there was some hard contact you know
that gets lined into wrong places there was some bad luck like i mentioned the josh neler the fact
that ball went fair with the bases loaded and for those who missed it
He just hits a little dribbler that sort of does a almost breaks left like a punch,
goes into fair territory to get him out.
That is the one of those things we're talking about with bad luck.
There's also the play from Suarez, speaking of bad luck, where one of the few hits who allows
is because Suarez has to get out of the way of a flying bat to go get the,
and I'm not talking about a genoblee type of bat.
I'm talking about an actual baseball bat.
There was so much of that today, so much bad luck, and you still get the win today.
The offense wasn't great.
And my biggest concern from this one, and again, wins a win, very happy, super pumped.
They have really struggled with soft throwers lately.
And you, Darvish was locating that they say it was 71 mile per hour.
I think it was closer to 17 mile per hour curveball that was just giving them bits today.
That's my worry right now against guys who throw hard.
I feel pretty good about this team.
Those kind of soft tossers have given them a little bit of trouble.
But big home run for Suarez.
And my unsung hero is Luke Rayleigh.
That's great.
I know.
I know.
You should have stole it from me.
But I love what I saw from Riley today, too.
The double.
And then he also makes that hard contact to the opposite way that just barely doesn't get out of the part.
By the way, how nice is it to see to have someone like Victor Robles come off the bench for Luke Rayle now?
Yeah.
You feel so much more confident, especially knowing that you have a can zone off the bench, too,
that if you need to make another move, you can do that.
Yeah, yeah.
Exactly.
Exactly.
But it wasn't a great day from the offense, but that's why you trade for you, Hanyel Suarez.
Now the question mark I have, there is 29 games left.
Can he get the 50?
Ooh.
We have 250 home run hitters in the same team.
So fun.
That'd be so much fun.
Oh, bullpen.
I think Bizarro looked great.
He looked awesome.
I'm just continually, continuously impressed by what he's been able to do.
I was talking about this while the game was going on.
I think he's your fourth best reliever right now.
You got Munoz, Brasch, Spire, and Bizarro.
And that's weird to say that at the beginning of the season, right?
So he just locates that two-seamer as a back door just perfectly.
And then in the same tunnel as his sweeper, slide, or whatever you want to call it, it's nasty.
And it doesn't matter if it's a leftie versus a righty.
He's been great.
So he's my unsung hero.
Also want to shout out two more hits from Julio.
Dude's been just locked in.
And he's not necessarily, you know, they're not tanks by any stretch of the imagination.
But he's having such good at bats.
Yes.
He has 30 hits in August, guys.
Yeah.
That's been really good.
Pretty dang good.
It's been the July show.
Instead, it's been the August show this time.
And that was the case for Julio in 2023 as well, where he was just so.
particularly against the Royals.
He was just so good in that August.
It's been great to see.
Let's talk about Munoz because, yeah, he gives up the run.
Yeah, he gives up the couple of hits.
I thought Munoz pitched really well.
It was you sometimes have to tip the old cap.
And I will just tip the cap to the Padres.
Terrific piece of hitting from Jake Croninworth on a fastball that's on the perfect part
of the corner and then Fernando Tatis goes down and gets one. You know, that's going to happen.
The big thing there is that you had a two run lead. When you have those two run cushions,
you can afford to have a not so great moment. And I'm not saying it was Munoz at his best,
but I thought he pitched more than well enough to be a, to deserve to get that safe.
Yeah. To deserve to get that safe. So yeah, I was pretty darn happy with what I saw from this game.
It wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination.
But again, I'll keep mentioning when you have terrible luck and beat really good baseball teams,
it's a wonderful feeling.
Five out of six against the San Diego Padres.
I will take that all day long.
Mariners win this one, four to three to win the series.
They have the day off tomorrow.
Be sure to check us out on Friday.
I will be gone.
But Chris Crawford will be going solo to bring down.
No, it won't be solo.
This one's coming with me.
Okay, is that Molly?
Mini.
Mini, okay, excuse me.
Sorry, I get those two mixed up.
Oh, it's fair because I just literally got it mixed up myself.
I don't think I've called them the right name.
And she's been alive for six years.
She's been alive for 14.
I don't think I've called them the right name once.
Great.
That's fun.
Maybe you should switch them.
If anyone wants them.
Be sure to check.
If you want more content,
Ty and Colby will have an episode of the Lockdown Mariners podcast coming out
very shortly.
This has been the Mariners Postcast.
Really appreciate you guys hanging out.
Please like the video if you haven't already.
Thanks for hanging out with us right after the game.
We'll be back or Chris will be back with you on Friday.
I'll be back on Saturday.
We'll talk to you guys then.
Have a good one.
Go Rockies.
