This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Okay.
That just happened.
Technically.
That just happened.
Technically.
Oh, you have to laugh through the tears with this one.
I just, I don't know, man.
Anderson Hurst, here, Christopher Crawford, with your Mariners Postcast.
Thank you for joining us in misery if you're a Mariners fan.
And thank you for drinking our tears if you're not a Mariners fan.
I really appreciate you joining the Marriers Postcast.
We go live after every single Mariners game.
And it's games like these and yesterdays and the days before where I wonder why I got into this.
But I do it for you guys.
I really appreciate you guys tuning in and hanging out with us.
But God, I don't want to even say crappy baseball game.
because for the first third of the game,
it looked great.
For the middle third, it looked terrible.
Terrible.
Terrible, terrible.
And then it looked like you were going to save yourself again
and have one of your good wins of the year.
And then you catastrophically choke.
And I mean choke it away in dramatic fashion.
Andres Munoz blows the save allows his first,
earned runs of the season.
Chris Crawford, where do we go from here?
What's your, what's your first take on today's game?
Happy Cole Young Day, everybody.
Whoa.
It's just, it's just, if I was doing it on the old channel,
there would be like at least a minute and a half of silence right now because I would just.
Or just a nah video.
The want-wa.
The want-wa is still my favorite video that I've ever done if you're, you know,
if you want to go.
check out that channel after this one.
You can get my detailed thoughts on a loss to the angels where they got swept.
This was bad.
This was bad.
And like, it's easy to just focus on the prisoner of the moment of how bad that 10th inning was.
But also then, and of course, the ninth inning as well.
But like for six and a half fittings or so, this offense was pathetic against Zebby Matthews as well.
You know, you get the six runs because one guy is really, really good at baseball and the rest of
them pretty so, so.
This is a,
it's hard not to overreact and it's hard not to just say this is as bad as it gets because
as bad as yesterday was, today feels worse because not only,
not only do you give up the six spot in the 12th inning or in the 10th inning, excuse me.
I wish it was 12 innings, but they certainly weren't going to go 12 after you give up a six
spot.
But having your closer just melt down like that, a guy who has been.
so reliable doesn't even come close to staying at Anders.
The guy had an ERA of 0.00 today.
And I don't want to go too crazy about like how he's not him because he still is him.
But him is human.
Him is human.
And there's just so many ways you can go with this one.
And all of it is bad.
And I just hate the sport of baseball right now.
Yeah.
This bullpen beside Munoz is.
redacted terrible.
Yeah. Munoz and Brash, I guess, and a little bit of Vargas, but everyone else just is
awful. It's pathetic. Awful, awful, awful. And like, I said this to you, I don't know if the
manager has anything to do with this, to be honest. It's the players that you're given,
but we've been critical of Dan Wilson and his usage in some cases. You can't really be that
critical of any decision that he made tonight.
Sure.
Like he used Munoz in the right spot.
He just didn't get the job done.
But these are the types of losses that Scott Services teams do not lose.
Yeah.
And it's happened two days in a row now where it's like a complete implosion,
like complete implosion, especially in extra innings,
which again is not something we used to.
to see with the old mariner.
So I don't know if there's anything to take from that,
but that's just my original observation.
No, I totally get it.
And, you know, looking back on it,
there weren't many losses that I can think of like that
when service was the job.
And, you know, service lost a clubhouse.
He flat out lost a clubhouse.
And I understand why he was let go.
And I still think Dan Wilson,
the vibes that he's bringing to that locker room are pretty good.
But I wonder how good they're going to be,
because this is back to back, calamity seems like such a strong word,
but what other word could you really use?
Like this is, these are disastrous losses, man.
These are disastrous losses.
And we're a daily show and we can only react to what we saw tonight.
And what I saw tonight was a good team for two innings, two.
Yeah.
Good team in the first inning.
And they were a good team in the, I think it was the eighth when Big Dumper hits that.
How about just one good player?
Yeah.
You really have one good player and your starters, right?
Yeah, I mean, look, the two, three, four were good tonight.
All three of those guys end up getting a couple of hits.
Brian Wu was fine tonight.
He was fine.
His line ends up looking a little bit worse because of that home run that he gives up in the seventh.
Boy, Brian Wu, by the way, I do not remember him being this agro.
Like, he is so mad at every mistake he makes.
And he looked almost as mad as J.P. Crawford did when they didn't call that strike three on
Byron Bucksman. He looked, again, quote my grandma, matter than a wet end that they did not give him
that strikeout. But tonight was, and it sucks to waste, Big Dumber, I love you so much, man.
And you had such an unbelievable game tonight. And that was a massive home run, because what are we
talking about? We don't have the extra inning blowout. So maybe we should be mad at Big Dumber
for giving them enough of a lead to absolutely, you know what, the bed.
But tonight you wasted such a spectacular effort from Big Dumber.
And it sucks too because, like, going back to that first inning,
it starts out as well as possible.
You get a hit from J.P. Crawford, a ball that I think had an exit velocity of negative 82.
But hey, still a hit.
Jorge Polanco lines a grounder, of course,
but at least make some hard contact.
Julio just gets under one.
and then Big Dumper and Randy Rose Arena go back to back,
and you're feeling real good.
And you're kind of thinking, oh, this was the response, right?
This was the response to that crappy, crappy loss that you achieved on Thursday.
And then for the next seven innings, this offense,
Big Dumber included, stunk.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, a little peek behind the curtain as well,
because, you know, I, we have to prepare our thumbnail.
how it looks and like what picture we use and uh you know what we put on our background here i had
everything set up to just be a dumper big dumper love fest uh cow for mvp everything like like
how good he has been and it sucks it sucks that we're not talking about that right now man
we're talking about this implosion from this bullpen uh an inability to get anything besides
one inning of good at bats from against a starter who has a seven ERA right now.
Like the first time you go to six plus innings and to start this season,
it seems like that's happened to every pitcher the Mariners have faced recently.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's just it just wasn't good enough.
And they just were worked for those next six innings.
And that matters.
That matters.
You scored six runs tonight and that should have been enough.
but imagine if you hit Zebby Matthews for the six innings,
like you're supposed to hit Zebby Matthews.
Who I like is a pitcher, actually.
He's been bad this year, but he had some long-term upside.
I don't want to completely poo-poo his ability to pitch,
but he's been bad this year.
And he's a guy that you should have gotten to.
You didn't get to him.
You didn't get to him.
You had one really good inning.
And then he was super efficient,
and the Mariners made him efficient over those next six innings.
I know the big blame here is going to be Munoz.
technically, you know, it's funny, that's his third blown save.
Yeah.
That is his third blown save.
It's, you know, you take a look at the ERA, but that's number three.
The first two upcoming extra where.
Yeah.
Yeah, where you have the guy on second base.
So he hasn't been perfect, quote, no.
No, no, it's just, you know, I just think that's worth pointing out that this was not
his first blown save.
They are the first three earned runs that he's given up on the season.
And so that's super notable.
And we have not seen him anywhere close to.
to this poor, especially after what happened with two outs.
But goodness gracious, what a, what a crap factory of the loss this one is.
Yeah, and it's starting to pile up.
This team, like, I just, I mentioned it before we went live.
This team hasn't played good baseball since the San Diego series.
They get lucky to win two out of three against one of the worst teams in baseball in Chicago.
They were spoke, they honestly, if you guys remember the game three, they were losing that.
And then Laudy Tiberis hits a home run to kind of.
save their butts.
They lose three out of four to Houston.
They lose two out of three of the nationals.
And now they're starting off this series on the, probably the worst note you possibly
can.
This is the stretch of the season that we're getting to where things can go south real quick.
Sure.
Real quick.
Yeah.
And if you guys don't know, Koyong is being called up for this weekend series
according to multiple sources.
we don't know who for yet.
We don't know which game yet.
I would assume he's in the lineup tomorrow.
He has to be.
So there seems to be a little bit of a sense of urgency from this front office.
I don't know if it's injury related.
But you got to do something at this point, right?
Yeah, yeah.
You know, this is just, and I'm not asking anybody to panic.
I'm asking people to react to what's happening right now.
There is a very thin line between or thick line, excuse me, between the two.
There is panicking and selling your farm for guys that are going to be short-term helpers and then having to start over again.
And then there's also looking at this team and saying, oh, right.
They need help.
Five-win team that wasn't good enough to make the postseason, the exact same team we brought back.
And, you know, it's a different way they're losing right now.
It's because, you know, the Mariners have had one of the best bullpins for the last three.
years running. Well, it sucks right now. It sucks. There are three guys right now that I trust
and a fourth if you want to count spire against left-handers, but I can't trust him to get a
right-hander out now to save his life. So, and he doesn't get the job done against James Wood
the night before or a couple nights ago. It's just not good. It's not good vibes. And it's so easy
to just overreact to one game, but that's what we're here to do, Anders. We're here to react
to these games. And tonight and last night are disastrous losses for our favorite baseball team.
Yep. My name's Anderson Hurst. That's Christopher Crawford to my left. ADL Williams, just so you know,
thank you for tuning in. This is the Mariners Postcast. We go live after every single
Mariners game right after the final pitch. You still have Ty and Colby for Lockdown Mariners
podcast every single day during the week. So you will get that back again on Monday. So
They are not going anywhere.
I know we get these questions all the time.
I just want to make sure everyone knows.
They had a couple great episodes this week.
So if you haven't checked them out, please do so.
Okay.
So my big question is who got fired.
That's funny.
They did not get fired.
Where do we go from here?
This is a big test from Dan Wilson.
This is a big, big, big point in the season.
You can either start the bottom out and go really downhill,
which, again, is not something that Scott.
service teams did.
Whenever it seemed like they were about to really go off the deep end, they pulled their
pants up, they got back in it and went on a little bit of a run.
I am very curious whether this team being coached by Dan Wilson can do that this year.
Yeah, same.
And I will say to Dan Wilson's credit, that one in five homestand, that's when I was kind of
feeling like the uh-oh.
And then he comes up with the sweep against the Padres.
So maybe they have an answer like that.
Maybe that's their answer.
and I'm sure hoping so because it's a lot more fun to talk to you guys after wins than losses.
You know, the view counts a little different too.
We like to get those sweet, sweet views.
We know you're more excited to talk to us after wins.
Yeah, it'll be really interesting to see because, you know,
there's losses and there's losses like the last two night.
And I know I keep repeating myself here.
Yeah.
But it's just, it cannot be overstated how disaster.
I keep coming back to that word it is to lose by six runs two nights in a row in games where you went to extra innings.
And to just see that can't be good for your morale.
It just can't be.
It can't be.
People talk all the time about how it's so much better to lose in a blowout than by one run.
Well, this is both.
This is both.
Yeah.
It's a close game.
It was a blowout.
It's a close game that ends up becoming a blowout because of the fact.
that your relievers just don't get it done,
and you don't do enough offensively,
minus the home run ball.
By the way, it is one thing I did want to talk about,
even if it was just the one,
and he did actually get two hits tonight,
how good was it to see Randy a Rosarina drive a baseball?
Yes.
Like, so nice to see his chain was surprised by it, clearly,
because it breaks off while he's rounding the bases.
But it was nice to see that.
It was nice to see Julio get a couple of hits.
It was nice to see everything,
but the bottom of the order, which was just
a grossious tonight.
Ben Williamson, who I am a
big supporter of, was awful
tonight after a great game yesterday.
Miles Master Boney, who I
think might not be a Seattle Maritor anymore.
You'll have Kai and Toby talk about that.
Did I just say Kai and Toby?
You said Kai and Toby, yeah.
So Kai and Toby is what I actually put on my stakes.
It's a really nice seasoning,
and it's really good.
The bottom of the lineup,
have just stunk out loud. The big guys did the job tonight. The big guys did their job,
especially big dumpers. It was everybody else, everybody else tonight outside of Matt Brash,
who we could probably talk a long time about whether it was a mistake to only have him face
one batter. We could talk about. It doesn't end up mattering. Yeah. No, it doesn't because you know,
you're going to use Brash in the eighth inning if you don't use them in the seventh.
And Vargas did the job and then you get to Munoz in the night.
Yeah. Yeah.
and absolutely just crap the bed.
It doesn't happen very often,
but you've got to talk about what we saw tonight,
and Andres Munoz just wasn't good enough to know.
The command was bad.
I had to go watch highlights of it because, you know,
I'll be taking you behind the scenes.
I turned the thing off, and I was like,
Anders, you're going to have to let me know what happens.
And, you know, you take up by three with the best reliever in baseball.
You're like, all right, you get up a run, ends the streak,
but at least we still win the game.
No.
just it's just bull crap and it makes me it makes me question why i had to pick this team and the
answer is geography and also a hatred of myself but there are just you talk now i'm done yeah i i'm
i'm i i'm i i'm kind of speechless too dude like we've gone through this three straight days now
like usually in the in the up and down of a 162 game season you're like all right you get a couple
games here and there where you're like that was terrible all right but the team figures out a way to
at least win a few games here and there to make you feel like especially with this team lately
who has not fallen out all like off the cliff in the last four years they've always been really good
at being in it until the very end uh i'm i'm curious if that's going to be the case this year
i'm as bullish on anyone as this mariner's team but the way they're playing right now that
we put up a comment earlier we'd lose the rockies like
This team is not playing good baseball at all right now.
I'm glad you said something crazy so I can backtrack a little bit.
No, no, they would not.
But Brett brings up a good point.
I didn't think about that.
If you let Brash go an inning in a third, which wasn't going to happen, to be clear.
Not going to happen.
Because back to back, you're just not getting having them get it for it.
Now, here's the thing.
This might be one where you can, if you really want to be super optimist,
hey, when you're more comfortable using Brash and back-to-backs, maybe he is throwing that inning in a third.
Maybe he is somebody.
It's going to be a while.
I would guess probably until after the All-Star break before you see him even get an inning in a third,
like before you even see him get that much, they're going to be super precaution.
Yeah, especially back-to-back.
But it would be nice, and that is the problem with having Matt Brash being one of your elite relievers right now,
because you have to be more careful with Matt Brash
than you probably would like to be, right?
It would be nice to not have to treat him with kid gloves.
And there's a thin line here of treating a guy with kid gloves
and then just giving a crap about a player's long-term health.
Like, we want to care about these guys.
You don't want to overwork Matt Brash.
You don't want to be Joe Tori, like, ruining arms.
I don't want to talk about it.
Well, let's have the comments talk.
because I actually love this one. Cool Breeze. I'm not tripping like a lot of people saying season cooked, et cetera,
but we need to drop some dead weight and refresh the team a bit. I honestly couldn't agree more.
Couldn't agree more. Like Chris said, the bottom of the order was awful today.
Hopefully one of those three spots is being replaced tomorrow looks like it is with Cole Young.
I have high hopes for him and he's been playing great. I think he plays a good second base.
He has another like true lefty in your lineup. I think that's going to be a nice refresh.
you know, maybe like I don't know if it's going to end up being a full refresh at that point
of the order that you need like a trade.
And that's not coming anytime soon.
So you're just going to have to hopefully these guys bounce back.
I don't know.
This team right now, it was at the point earlier in the season where the offense was like,
okay, we just need to get the pitching staff healthy, but the offense is playing well.
Now the pitching staff is getting healthy.
and the offense is coming way back down to 2024 levels,
but the bullpen is just going to crap.
It's gone to absolute crap.
And the starting pitching hasn't even been that dominant for any reason.
Like, Wu was fine tonight.
He still gives up three runs.
George Kirby's human.
He's not been playing great.
No.
You still are waiting for Logan Gilbert to come back.
Bryce Miller makes his first start off the aisle tomorrow.
I'm very curious how he looks.
Like, I just, there's not a lot of like surefire things you can.
can count on with this team right now beside the big number. Yeah, it's totally fair.
It's just, it's so frustrating because it, you know, it's to take it back to the football terms,
you know, there's offense, there's defense, and there's special teams, and you need all three
assets of those. Well, if you treat the bullpen like special teams and you treat your
defense like your pitching staff and you treat your offense, like your lineup, yeah.
They just can't put all three together. They just can't. Like when this team was one of the best
offenses in baseball, this pitching staff was struggling.
Yeah.
It was struggling.
They were struggling.
You're right.
Yep.
And now, you know, the pitching has for the first nine innings has been great.
But over the last, although I would say Tuesday, you know, giving up nine runs.
By the way, that's now nine 18.
They give up 30 runs over their last three games.
30.
30.
30 of them.
That's unlike this team.
No.
And you know what?
even if you take away the six that's still 18 over three that's not like this team that's not
like this team at all no so i don't know man it's it's it sucks it stinks and like they were saying
you can't panic and give away all the season no um by the way i've seen some people saying
Matt Brash should close over Andres Munoz.
Calm down.
Calm down.
Guys, it was a bad game.
Everybody's allowed one or two or ten.
Matt Brash is not a better closer than Andres Munoz.
And dude who's saying, I don't know ball, don't drive.
Because clearly you can't operate machinery if you are silly enough to say something
that I don't know ball because I want Matt Brash not closing instead of Andres Munoz.
goodness gracious. There is just,
they're silly and there is
And you're a big Matt Brash fan. Yeah, I love Matt Brash.
Matt Brash is one of my favorite pictures in baseball.
Saying that Matt Brash is a better closer than Andres Munoz is assanao.
Yeah. And like you can even think that they're like close to on par as a pitcher like themselves, which I don't.
But you could, I can at least justify that. Like you can't like,
The reason Andres Munoz is playing so well is because he's pitching strictly in a closer role this season.
And he's mentioned that multiple times in interviews.
And I think Matt Brasch is his skill set is perfect for the high leverage before the closing situation, right?
Get a couple strikeouts.
You know, you're not the guy to come in a clean inning and just shut it all down like Andres Munoz does.
But if you need to clean up a mess or whatever, you know, high.
leverage spots before the closing role. I think it's perfect for Matt Brash. We're late to get
to our wonderful partners and fandul. So let's do that. Oh boy. The NBA playoffs are more than in
full swing. We are actually close to getting a NBA finals matchup and every night delivers
highlight worthy performances, major momentum shifts, and can't miss moments. Whether it's a
game winning shot or a breakout player, there's never been a better time to get in on the action.
If tonight was your first time playing Fandul,
and you had Seattle Mariners, and can only say that things are going to get better for you.
Take the over.
Take the over if it goes to extras.
Yeah, Fandall makes it easy to stay in the game before tip off and live with player props, performance trends, and same game parlays.
Fans have more ways than ever to play smart and win big.
I would be looking tomorrow, probably betting on Tyrese Halliburton going over on points and assists.
I would be looking at probably playing the under on Bryce Miller's.
strikeouts. I just don't think he's going to pitch very deep into that game. And I'd be looking to
bet a lot of money on the Florida Panthers to win the Stanley Cup. Oh, yes. Come on. Make sure Edmonton
doesn't win. If you're new to this, I hate the Edmonton Oilers. Sure do. That's all I have to say.
If you're new to Fandul, it's perfect time to sign up at the Fanduil.com and place your first $5 bet.
If it wins, you'll get $200 in bonus bets. Make sure you make every moment more with Fandual,
the official sports betting partner of the NBA.
All right.
Let's get to our unsung hero because we're already pretty late here.
Thank you guys so much for tuning in.
Really appreciate it.
Who do you got, Chris?
Oh, boy, oh, boy.
You know what, I'll go Randy.
It's great to see a great, nice game from him, two for four with a homer.
He had looked really lost at the plate, so it's nice to see some hard contact from Randy
or Rose Arena.
Yeah, there you go.
Yeah, I don't mind that.
Let's see, who's mine?
I'll go Julio.
You don't normally do a Julio unsung hero.
No, but he gets on a bit.
Yeah, he had a good day, a couple good hits.
I think both of his hits were two with two strikes as well.
Yeah, yep.
So good to see that he's still taking out more of his swing and miss.
It doesn't have the big, huge, you know, swing that you expect from him.
You know, still doing his thing in center field.
I just take this opportunity because normally Julio is either a very high or very low.
Very well.
Yeah.
Being like kind of there and doing your job is a,
it's a perfect opportunity for me to take Louio as the unsung hero.
You could say Carlos Vargas as well.
I had a good eighth inning coming in for Matt Brash after he closes out the seventh.
So that's my little honorable mention for Unsung Hero.
But chat, let us know yours.
Yeah.
Be sure if you missed any part of today's episode,
you can catch it on any podcast platform if you want to hear us in your ears.
or if you're driving around or something, whatever.
If you just don't want to look at us, that's fine.
That's fair.
Totally fair.
But if you do want to look at it, you can catch us back on the Mariners
locked on YouTube pages.
Go to the live section,
and you will find all of our Mariner's postcasts in that section there.
Really appreciate you guys tuning in.
We'll be back with you guys tomorrow.
Please give us something else to talk about besides a bullpen blow-up,
because I can't do this for three days in a row.
Apparently, there's a closer controversy,
so that'll be really fun to talk about tomorrow.
Oh, geez, okay.
I'm not even entertaining that.
Also, if you missed any of Ty and Colby's episodes from this week, they were great talking to at Kimes.
Who was the prospect guy that they talked to today?
Adam, I can never, I always get the name wrong, but it's great.
Please go check it out.
It's great stuff on the MLB draft and great stuff on a bunch of stuff.
Please go check that out.
Yep.
All right.
You guys are awesome.
Really appreciate you tuning in.
Hopefully we're talking about something different tomorrow.
We'll see you later.
