Episode Date: April 8, 2026

Chris Crawford goes live to break down the middle game of a three-game set versus the Texas Rangers for the Seattle Mariners. Starting point is 00:00:04 One more time. This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the Locked-on podcast network, your team every day. Well, the good news is there's 150 to go. The bad news is there might be 150 to go. The Mariners lose three to two. They guarantee a lost series against the Texas Rangers.
Starting point is 00:00:47 they've lost four straight. They dropped to four and eight on the season. But other than that, everything's going really well. How's everybody doing? My name is Chris Crawford. Anders, again, has to cover that terrible hockey team. I love them, but they're terrible. But the Mariners aren't much better.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Probably he'll have a better season than the Cracken did. But they're not much better right now. I'll tell you that much. So Anders is doing that. We go live after every single Seattle Mariner game. Ty and Colby take care of the day-to-day operations. We're just here to break down every single Seattle Mariner game. Appreciate.
Starting point is 00:01:22 However you're joining us, we really do appreciate it. Wow. This is four straight losses. It's four straight one run losses, which doesn't make me feel any better, by the way. It's not like all of a sudden I think, oh, they're only losing by one run, so this isn't any less frustrating. Let's start with the start because it's the one positive that you can take from this game. George Kirby really minus a couple of pitches was fantastic. And he didn't have great swing and miss stuff today.
Starting point is 00:01:54 And he didn't have his like immaculate command either. But he was much better than even this line suggests. You get eight innings of three run baseball. That most of the time is going to give you a win if we're just being completely honest. Most of the time you're going to get a W. But when your offense behind you was playing like this, nope, nope, it's just not good enough. And that's frustrating. but it is just the case.
Starting point is 00:02:19 It's just the case right now. And boy, he has the right to yell at pretty much every single Seattle mariner hitter after that one because he deserved the win. He absolutely deserved the W. Eight innings, six hits allowed, three earned runs, four strikeouts, no walks. The one homer throws 68 of 90 pitches for strikes. But I thought he looked even better than that line suggested. and, you know, outside of a home run that he gives up to Kyle Higgishioca of all freaking people.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Like, let's be honest here, too. The Mariners have had some bad luck. Most of you don't want to hear it right now, and that's totally fine. This is your chance to vent. This is your chance to, you know, let out some frustrations. Lord knows I'm doing the same thing and I'm getting paid to do it, which is kind of nice. But you have every right to be ticked off by this stuff. but it is worth pointing.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Internet has been perfect all day. I apologize for the quick little delay there. And then, of course, right when we start, we get the freeze. But there's been some bad luck. Three homers robbed from one of the worst defensive players in baseball and Joe Adele. And then tonight, the one guy who gets you is Kyle Higashioka. That's some bad luck. That's some bad luck.
Starting point is 00:03:47 But, hey, that is... the results. And right now you're on pace to be a 54 and 108 baseball team. And it doesn't matter how good Kirby lives. It matters because of the fact that getting off to this type of bats, George Kirby was really good. Hopefully that works. There we go.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Oh, today's episode is brought to you and sponsored by Fandul. The NBA playoffs are almost here, where every possession matters, every matchup is magnified, and every game can swing a series. And right now, Fandul is giving new customers a great way to get in on the action. Bet $5 and get $250 back in bonus bets if your first bet wins. Playoffs, this is the fun thing about the playoffs, right? Like you can bet on who's going to win the series.

So just head to fandual.com, excuse me, to get started. Fandual, play your game. Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Once again, Mariners lose three to two. Once again, it's a one-run loss, four straight losses, and a guaranteed series loss, which means the Mariners will not win a series over their first four, which is not ideal. And the entire reason you lose this game, Yeah, you can blame a bad pitch left to Higashioca.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Yeah, you can blame, that's pretty much it. The offense stunk tonight, with the exception of Brandon Donovan, who I know was the last out of this game, everyone else played a poor game. Cal and Julio both get hits. And I know Cal's is an RBI single that gives you a two-nothing lead, but just really poor at bats outside of those hits. And Julio's was just a little dunker,
Starting point is 00:06:29 whereas speed takes advantage. um Luke rarely has a couple of hits including one that, uh, you know, puts the tying run at the plate. Chip Crawford got on twice.
Starting point is 00:06:40 So I guess I can put him in there as well. The overall story here is this mariner offense just stinks right now. Stinks. And it's not good enough. Obviously it's not good enough. And you can tell me all you want about how it's early and these games don't matter. They count.
Starting point is 00:06:58 They count. I'm just really frustrated. And Nathan Yovaldi has been terrible this year. Small sample, to be sure. But this is the type of pitcher that you should be getting right now. Man, a lot of he's suggesting that we should be talking about the NFL season, and I don't blame you. It's just been ugly.
Starting point is 00:07:25 It's been so ugly. And, boy, two unsung villains. and I don't even know if they're unsung. Josh Naylor and Randy a Rosarena today were atrocious. And this start from Josh Naylor has been ugly. And I don't think it's predictive. Josh Naylor's been too good of a player over his career and is far from an old man to suggest that this is going to keep going.
Starting point is 00:07:57 But 104, 173, 104 is. is pathetic, especially when it's hitting in the middle of your lineup. Like even when Cal and Julio do good things, it doesn't matter because Josh Naylor has been so terrible at the plate. And then Randy was awful today as well. Kenzone was bad. Cole Young gets a single, but three less than desirable plate appearances after that.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Only two guys get on more than once, excuse me, only two guys get on with hits. Two guys had two hits. JP got on twice and I think JP got on twice. So you had three guys get on twice. I'm flustered. I'm really flustered and they, I'm trying not to go too nuclear here.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Bad choice of words today. I apologize. But I'm trying not to get too upset by this, knowing that there is so much baseball left to be played. So much left to be played. But I've seen this movie before. I have seen this movie before. And guys, they've played the equivalent, speaking of football. They've played the equivalent of one football game. They're 0 and 1. Pretty clearly 0.1. But as my buddy agent Michael Skarn says right here, It just sucks to have to play catch up so early in the season. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Yeah. And it's, it's so repetitive that it becomes super annoying. And I don't think Josh Naylor is a guy who took a big contract and all of a sudden didn't try. Josh Naylor got here super early in spring training and has done all the right things and said all the right things. The results just haven't been there. And he's gotten off to slow starts before. but that doesn't mean watching this is fun. You don't have to enjoy this.
Starting point is 00:10:13 You don't have to like take this results. Just because it's not predictive doesn't mean that this doesn't suck. You know what? It's awful. It's awful. And I have such high, I don't have expectations. I have such high demands for the Seattle Mariners that this isn't okay.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Somebody said oh and one and lost to the Browns by 20 points. yeah, that's fair. That's fair. It sucks out loud, bench warmer 1038. That's what it sucks. It sucks out loud. I was going to say, but. It sucks, but. This isn't good. Just because there's so much baseball left to be played and because they are such a talented baseball team doesn't mean you have to enjoy this. And anyone who tells you that, you just have to calm down and take it. Tell them to go eat eggs, but like gross eggs. Like an egg salad sandwich that's been out in the sun all day.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Because this stinks. This stinks. It's another series loss. It's another one-run loss. It's another winnable baseball game that you squander. And that ninth inning, first you guys get on. pour it bat from Canzon, pour it bad from Cole Young, and then just a little tapper from Brendan Donovan.
Starting point is 00:11:54 I expect more. I demand more. Well, this will be my last solo show for a while. Anders will be here to calm me down and tell me why everything's going to be okay. Really appreciate you guys tuning in. Please hit like, please hit subscribe. Sorry for the little glitch at the beginning there, but let us know your thoughts. How panicked are you?
Starting point is 00:12:21 Be sure to tune in for time. and Colby tomorrow. It's bad. It's not dooming. They're not damned, but this is bad. And once again, your Seattle Mariners are going to have to play catch up.
Starting point is 00:12:41 And I'm kind of tired of it.
