Well, this is the Mariners Postcast.
My name's Anderson Hurst.
The Mariners lose the series to the Angels in quite frustrating fashion.
I'm Chris Crawford, and the sooner we can get this game out of my head, the better, my friend.
This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the Locked-on podcast network, your team every day.
Welcome, everyone into the Mariners Postcast.
My name is Anderson Hurst.
I got Chris Crawford with me.
just out of the gates want to get ahead of it.
We have to make this episode very quick today,
which is funny because there's actually a lot to talk about.
But we'll kind of rapid fire here.
Let's start with extra innings, Chris.
First of all, Mariners lose this one.
Eight to seven, they lose the series of the Angels.
They are still below 500.
This is a series you should win.
But let's go straight to extra innings.
Normally we start with the start,
but I think extra innings is important here
because there's both good and bad in this one.
The good with Julio and Randy and Cal in the ninth inning, I should say.
That's not X-Randing.
Yeah.
To get it to that point, just it's funny how we've seen scorch balls from both Julio and Cal get outs recently.
And then it's a parachute and a broken bat that end up getting hits that tie the game in the ninth inning for the Mariners.
They get it to the 10th.
Randy has an incredibly clutch hit.
his offensive, offensive start to the season has been fantastic.
And then you get bases loaded for Cal Raleigh in a tie game.
And he has one of the worst at bats that I've ever seen from him.
Very, very bad.
So, Chris, let's just get initial thoughts on extra innings before we get to the pitching.
Yeah, I mean, you know, some bitter with the better, but unfortunately the bitter ones out there.
And, you know, prisoner of the moment, if you want to say so, what a.
noodle of an arm for Randy a Rosarina on that throw.
So it's an offensive start of the season.
Yeah, no, you've hit the nail on the head, my friend,
because the bat has looked great, but the defensive stuff is concerning.
I mean, he almost didn't throw out a guy from 200 feet, not that long ago.
Let's let's not completely forget about that.
No, this is a really frustrating game.
It was great to see Julio come up clutch two times it 20% of the games.
Julio Rodriguez has hits to tie a game in the ninth inning and the Mariners have won.
0% of those games, which is pretty frustrating as well.
But yeah, that rally at bat was just awful.
And let's be honest, the double was more luck than anything else.
It's just a little parachute that happens to land.
Good for Cal for getting to second base on that play for running it out.
You know, I'm not surprised.
And for scoring on the Julio single as well.
And for scoring on the Julio single as well.
But boy, this is a frustrating loss, a frustrating series,
and a frustrating beginning to these 10 games.
Yeah, it's tough because, I mean, I thought we were kind of witnessing a sort of breakout.
Naylor's looked better at the plate the last couple days.
And then Julio, wow, he absolutely scorches one, 111 with two men on.
And I believe it was the second or third inning.
And then it's a little broken bat one in the ninth inning that ends up getting the RBI,
which I'll take it.
You know, if one of those two happens to get you the RBI in that situation, we'll take it all day.
Sure.
Let's get to Luis Castillo.
I'm curious on your thoughts on him because I'm going to mention my thoughts first and that you can tell me how I'm
I'm wrong. I don't think he pitched awful today. I just think for that matchup, a right-hand heavy team who
struggles with the fastball, I expect him to be dominant and he wasn't today. So that's how I feel.
Yeah, I wasn't terribly impressed, but I will say that it could have gone a lot worse, like three and two-thirds
innings of three earned runs.
His defense didn't help him.
Defense did not help him.
Leo Revis has really struggled at the hot corner, I think.
But, you know, it wasn't horrible.
It's hard to remember.
I think that was like six hours ago, seven hours ago.
No, it wasn't that long ago.
But it felt like that.
He was okay.
He was okay.
A little too much hard contact and certainly nowhere close to as good as he was against
the Yankees?
Yeah, the Yankees.
But then this is the thing.
why do we get these results on the road so much more often with Luis Castillo than at home?
And part of that answer is to Mobile Park.
Yep.
But some of it is frustrating because I didn't see anything stuff-wise from Louise
Castile that suggested that he was bad today.
The command was pretty bad.
Only the one walk, but way too much in the middle of the plate.
Yep, I agree with that.
And I think similar situation for Jose Ferreira because, you know, I think he pitched.
I think he pitched fine, honestly.
And he did exactly what you want, your ground.
ball left-handed pitcher to do. He hit he induced ground balls and your infield defense is a problem
right now. It's an absolute problem. J.P. Crawford throws one away to score a run. Leo Rivas has I
believe two errors. If not it was one and then another one and should have been another one.
Yeah. So it's just not good enough. Cole Young has made some plays, but his throws still scare me.
And it's just just not a good infield defense, Chris Crop. No, it's a bad infield defense.
and it's going to be, you know, Ben Williamson would help this baseball team.
I'm just telling you right now.
Like, I know that you end up getting the better player on Brandon Donovan,
but Ben Williamson would help this baseball team right now.
It's just a really frustrating loss.
And it's, you know, it's early and all that crap.
But these are the type of games that you can look back on and say, what if.
I guess it's a terrible team, too.
Like, the angels are a terrible team.
They tried to give it to you multiple times today.
and you still couldn't with how many walks they gave you.
Quick, quick shout out to Cole Young,
another home run against the left-handed pitcher.
His bat has been fantastic.
He's probably been the best Mariners player overall to start the season.
I would agree.
So great to see that.
I wouldn't think about moving him up in the lineup.
Maybe not right now.
Just let him kind of stay in that spot if it's being successful for him.
But, you know, we'll let Ty and Colby address that moving forward.
Get him over Luke Rayleigh.
I'll tell you that freaking much.
Oh, God.
Don't even get me like that.
a whole other conversation that we don't have time for because I think that's one of the worst
instance like I would almost choose literally anyone else to lead off besides Luke Rayley
literally I would rather Leo Rivas lead off than Luke Raleigh on the street.
He draws walks at least.
Exactly.
Real Rivas, it's such a weird game that he plays.
By the way, just real quick because he does have the two run single.
He does get on and a couple of walks for you like but the, you just, he just sees.
the issues and why that guy can't be a regular for you as well.
100%.
We'll come back.
We'll do our unsung hero, unsung villain.
Like I said, we have to go rapid fire today, guys.
We got some stuff to do.
I'm sure you guys do as well.
Really appreciate it.
This is the Mariners postcast.
Mariners dropped this one to lose the series to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
We will be right back.
MLB season is back and you can feel it.
Fresh starts, big expectations in that first crack of the bat, whether it's a breakout
rookie or a division race that goes down to the watch.
There's nothing like being in the ballpark for it.
The only problem is getting tickets that can feel like a grind.
Long queues, surprise fees, prices jumping at checkout, and that's where there's game time.
The GameTime app gives fans the advantage with constant innovation.
It's how you unlock amazing tickets and experiences in just a few taps.
Really simple to use.
The game time guarantee means you get 100% authentic tickets delivered on time at the best price.
And the best part, fees are included in the price you see.
see is what you pay, period. The seat views is huge for me. I could see the panoramic view from my
exact seat before I choose to check it out. Zone deals is also great. It lets me pick the section
and save even more while game time selects the exact seat. And you can follow your favorite team
and get alerts when new deals drop. Two taps and it's done. No stress. No hidden fees.
Just great seats in minutes. That's what makes it so easy to decide last minute to hit a game.

eight to seven against the Angels. Tough start to the season continues. Chris Crawford,
who's your unsung hero? I don't know. I should have thought about it while you were reading the
commercial. I'll go.
my unsung hero i think it's easy to forget about that three run homer from cole young and you know
as good as he's been the thing that's been most impressive to me is what he's doing against left-handed
pitching man like because it just looked so atrocious there for a little while that i'll go with
cole young um yeah there's not a lot of unsung heroes to this type of game um i'm gonna say
i'm gonna have a fun one here unsung hero i'm gonna do both at once unsung here unsung here
is Julio Rodriguez's aggressive base running.
His tag up from second to third on the flyout for Josh Naylor.
Great call.
On sung villain is Julio Rodriguez's aggressive base running because he gets overslides at second base,
the inning previous, and gets out for the third out right after he ties up the game.
However, maybe he's playing chestnut checkers here because he knows he's going to be the next guy up.
So he's like, I want to be that guy.
I want to be that guy at second.
He's going to be at second base either way.
So you might as well take that chance.
And by the way, it wasn't even like bad base running.
Over sliding second base is just going to happen, guys.
Like it's frustrating, but I have no issue with Julio Rodriguez taking that chance there.
Absolutely not.
To get into scoring position.
I saw a lot of complaining about it on the old websites.
And that's why I'm probably going to be deleting a lot of websites at some point.
But yeah, good for Julio, man.
It's fun to see even in a 10%.
sample size, not even that yet, where he hasn't driven the baseball at all. And that 111
mile per hour, like that was hit super hard. That ball should have left the stadium, man. That's a type
of pitch you've got to drive out of the ballpark if you're Julio Rodriguez. I don't want to
complain too much about an 111 mile per hour. Ex velocity. No. There you go. Julio Rodriguez needs
to start driving the baseball. If he can't, the Mariners had a 54 at that streak without hitting a
homer until Cole Young's homer today. They've got to start driving the baseball more consistently.
Especially like the way this team is built.
They rely on the home run ball.
And that's not a bad thing.
The Yankees do as well.
They're one of the best teams in the league.
It's the Dodgers do as well.
Like a lot of these really good teams rely on the home run ball in today's game.
So it's okay to need home runs to score a lot of runs.
So I just had a fun one there because I think both you could play both sides of it.
I'm always a fan of aggressive base running.
And I totally agree with you.
It's a process result thing.
Totally fine with him getting to second base looking to get the go ahead run with two outs.
it sucks that that's the third out
and he actually does get there safe originally
but just overslides the bag a little bit.
So shouldn't he get a stolen base by the way?
Because technically he stole the base
and then I guess it should be a pickoff.
Yeah, yeah, you could.
You could say that.
Leo Rivas, by the way, also picked off at first base.
So he had a really bad base runner.
Like really bad base runner.
That is concerning, man,
because all he does is get on base.
But once you get on base,
like you need to be able to not create,
create outs once you're on there.
Yep, yep, 100% agree.
Yeah, so the Mariners drop the series of the Angels.
I honestly, it's bad.
I wish we could talk about it more,
but I also kind of wish we don't have to talk about it more.
Thank God.
I'm leaving this to Ty and Colby to unpack this whole series.
You guys can check them out tomorrow during the day.
We'll be back with you guys tomorrow.
It'll be Chris once again tomorrow.
I got more crack and stuff to do.
I have a couple more God-forsaken hockey games to cover with this team.
I have no affiliation on this to Crack and Hockey.
I could say how God awful they are on this.
So yeah, so I have a couple more games.
Chris will cover me on Monday and Tuesday,
but then we'll be back regular duo kind of going for the rest of the week.
Hopefully, me being gone gives us a little bit of good luck living forward.
But thanks so much for everyone for tuning in.
Please like the video if you haven't already.
Chris, we'll be back with you tomorrow.
Hopefully you get some more luck against Texas, I believe.
Thanks for not making.
Fun of my hair too, guys.
This is ridiculous.
I almost look like I'm trying to grow out the Jim Carrey.
Let's go. Do it. Why not?
Because I can't do it.
It's just I have bedhead and I've been awake for 12 hours.
What the heck, man. Come on.
Yep. Yep. No worries.
I had bedhead until about 10 minutes ago before we started recording this.
Poor guy.
It is what it is.
All right. Well, we'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
Have a good one again.
Sorry for going really short today.
But I'm sure you guys have plans as well.
We can kind of throw this one in the bag.
Happy Easter.
Happy Easter, everyone.
Have a good one.
Go Mariners.
All that fun stuff after a terrible one.
