This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners.
Part of the Locked-on podcast network, your team every day.
Oh, yeah.
The Mariners drop a series to the New York Mets.
I tried to do the old reverse jinx.
And when I set up the stream, I put the lose series like in the sixth inning.
Just like, hey, maybe they come back and make me look foolish.
But no.
I did not end up working out that way.
I'm trying.
Yeah, no, I just got to do my part, you know.
Keep the line moving.
You know, unselfish at bats.
No, yeah, George Kirby was bad.
Offense was bad until late.
And if everything was going right for the Mariners in the homestand,
everything now seems to not be going right on the road trip.
So I'm going to kind of get a temperature check here of concern level.
I realize it's just two series, but still, this team looks a lot different than the team that won nine out of ten games at home, Chris Crawford.
Yeah, I'm disappointed. First of all, I thought today was really cool.
I thought that they got to play in a game like this is really awesome.
And I thought that the vibes from the game were pretty cool.
The actual game itself kind of stunk.
And it's disappointing.
And I keep going back to like, thank good.
they want at least one game in each series, right? Because the worst thing that's going to happen
probably now is you have a three and six road trip. And you can't have too many of those,
but you can kind of afford that a little bit more when you have the homestand that they do, right?
It's still, you know, we can only judge one game at a time. And today wasn't good enough. Like,
the starting pitcher was bad today. And you know what? Let's just go into it right now.
Start with the starter. Just way too much of the plate today. Way too much of the plate.
And to say that George Kirby was due for a start like this, and that's not an insult to George, George Kirby.
That's just math, right?
Because of how good he has been over the last, like, eight starts, he was due for a clunker.
It doesn't make it any less frustrating when you see it.
But what did he give up?
12 days today?
And, you know, most of them were singles.
Most of them weren't exactly shellacked, right?
Until one was, and I will say this, you probably should have gone and got.
him before. You probably should, I don't understand why you don't have a Bizarro ready there to get
that final outs, you know? I just don't understand what you're really going for there. Like, how
what's important is it for him to get through five innings for you there? Right. Because, you know,
you do have Bizarro didn't pitch yesterday. You have some other guys who didn't pitch yesterday.
Like, why not go to that? And then you can go to Taylor Sossetto, who by the way, great job by him.
And it was awesome to see Taylor Sissetto pitch so well because he has not been good this year.
And Taylor Sissetto is one of the good guys on this team.
Like one of the good dudes.
And it's great to see him have success and to eat up seven outs, right?
Yeah.
But George Kirby just wasn't good enough today.
And credit to the Mets, you know, but I don't think they were exactly fouling off a ton of tough pitches or anything like that.
He just didn't have it today.
And it's going to happen.
But it's disappointing it happened to the level that it happened at.
Yeah, this team's going to go as far as it's pitching.
I know the revamped offense has everyone excited.
Sorry, I have something in my eye.
I know the revamped offense has everyone excited,
but this team is still going to only go as far as the pitching takes it.
So when you have starts like this,
there's a reason we start with the start every postcast,
because that's what results usually start with.
And yeah, you'll have the occasional Luis Castillo's bad,
but your offense out slugs the other team and you'll get the win.
But more often than not, you're out.
your results kind of determined by how good your starter is.
Sure.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And, you know,
today was just a day where he couldn't get pitches by guys today.
There were just too much singles up the middle.
And, you know,
I will say there were a couple of singles there where I think you have,
you have a little bit more range in the middle infield.
Maybe some of those balls are cut off.
Sure.
One ball that Julio,
I think,
would tell you that he should have gotten to,
but it was,
that's pretty tough play, man.
That ball was absolutely.
Oh, that one,
the one race kind of slid.
Yeah.
Yeah, that one wasn't so great either, but the one that was really hit hard.
And that's kind of what started the scoring, right?
Is that line drive into the gap.
But, you know, just he just didn't fool anybody.
And on top of that, he issues the three walks as well.
So I'm not supposed to talk about fantasy baseball on here technically, but I will say your whip took a hit today with George Kirby.
It took a big old hit because I believe 15 bates runners and only the four strikeouts.
And guess who is George Kirby?
Yeah.
This guy.
That'll be a tough one for sure, probably the end of the week for you as well.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's a little bit of a rough one.
But I don't have any long-term concerns from George Kirby about this one.
It's just disappointing that on a big stage, he wasn't up to the task.
And I'll mention again that the Mets arc were kind of a sleeping giant coming into the series
where it's like, hey, they're much better than their previous month of baseball represents.
and I hate being the get right team for other teams because sometimes it I feel like that's too often,
especially with good teams.
But, you know, it's, I feel like this wasn't as much a, we were the get right team for the Mets.
It was more like this was the get right moment for the Mets.
And like they kind of like that.
I like the way you put that.
Yeah, the get right moment for them.
And, you know, it's a talented baseball team.
By the way, it's crazy how Francisco Linder and Julio Rodriguez are having like the exact same season.
If you take a look at statistically, they are having basically the same thing.
One in center, one at short.
One in center, one it's short.
I would take both those guys on my baseball team every day of the week.
Just real quick on the bullpen, a nice job today by both guys.
I thought that Jackson CoR bounced back really nicely,
and I thought that Taylor Sussetto did an excellent job.
But when your starter gives up seven, it doesn't really matter how your bullpen pitches.
Yeah, you know, we've been seeing a lot of Jackson Coar lately,
and I don't think that's a good thing.
Because it means you're down in games.
Yeah.
Silver lining, Houston did lose today as well.
Austin loses as well.
It didn't lose any ground in the AOS.
The Yankees win.
I can't remember.
Yankees won.
Cleveland lost.
Cleveland is really scuffling right now.
Texas did win, but not a terrible day for the Mariners in terms of other teams.
Chris, I'm going to do something I haven't done before.
Do you have the correct ad reads?
Yep.
Or am I going, okay.
Hey, sweet. We'll do a quick break here. We'll come back. We'll do talk about the offense because I have some questions, and then we'll do it on song here on the Lockdown Mariner's postcast.

All right.
So let's get into the offense a little bit, kind of similar to yesterday,
where it looks terrible for the first seven.
eight innings and then you get a couple kind of ending up and being meaningless runs at the end
of the game. But good to see Dumpur kind of get his 47th there. He had a really good game. He had a
really good series, to be honest. And also, Julio. Dumper and Julio are kind of the offensive guys
today. Everyone else, not so great. What are your thoughts, Chris Crawford, up and down the lineup?
Just not, some hard contact that goes unrewarded, but not great. By the way, I see what
people are talking about with Victor Robles. He's about to get suspended for a very, very long time.
Yeah, I was going to ask you about that. Very, very long time. Holy crap. What are you doing,
dude? He lost his mind. He absolutely lost his mind. Do you know the context behind that? They've hit
it like five times this series. Yeah. And, you know, that's frustrating. But you know what? You just
got to let it go, dude. In fact, Victor Robbins tried to swing at the pitch that hit him. So that's
interesting as well. It could have been a strike, not a hit by pitch. Holy crap. Yeah, that is going to be
a long suspension for Victor Robles.
If it's not, then they've made a mistake.
Victor Robles absolutely deserves to be suspended for that.
Offense just wasn't good enough today.
Like, Clay Holmes left some pitches in the middle of the plate.
My unsung moment, I don't have a hero, I don't have a victim,
is Cole Young with the base is loaded, 3-1 pitch, gets one to hit.
You're only down by two runs.
Bad moment.
Really bad moment.
And, you know, there's been up and down for Cole Young.
enough good for you to be excited about the future, enough for him to be your ninth hitter for sure.
But Koyang's got to be better.
Koyong has to be better.
Yeah, I'm going to go unsung moment for me is the Julio and Dom Kanzone play in right center field,
where we've seen this a couple times on both sides with Julio now,
where at the last second, the guy backs, or whether it's Randy on left field or Kanzone, usually in right field,
they back away and Julio takes care of it.
But it's like, hey, you can use your voice.
you know, I don't know if that's just something that they need to work on.
If Julio is, they have this thing where if he's close to it, they expect him to get it.
Like, I don't know.
That needs to be worked out, but it looked very little league in the Little League class in today.
Yeah, it was unfortunate.
And, you know, some of that is those guys just need to get the heck out of the way and learn that that's how their role is.
Right.
But at the same time, Julio just needs to step in front of these dudes too and say enough, like get out of the freaking way.
Well, when you're looking up, it's like you can't tell he's there.
No, it's hard.
It's hard.
But like, you know, and it's hard to hear too, right?
Like, even in a Little League park, it's pretty hard to hear somebody screaming out loud.
It's not like a quarterback cadence type thing.
But, like, you know, I don't know.
I'm very distracted by this Victor Roblo's thing, too.
You just saw it?
Yeah, I hadn't seen it before.
I am.
Yeah.
Wow.
That's not good.
Yeah.
I was expecting him to be kind of a big part of the.
stretch run but uh is he has there a chance he's out for the rest of the season no i think you're
probably looking at like two weeks something like that but i don't know like it it totally depends
right like you throw your bat at somebody it's usually going to be a pretty long suspension so
um woof yeah that's a tough one for robles uh mariners dropped this one i'll echo what you said at
the beginning it is cool this was a cool thing uh seeing hulio and how many like people
love him. How many kids loved him?
Did you see what happened real quick before the game with Julio?
Yeah, sliding down the hill and almost just destroying his knee.
Oh my gosh.
And I hope the lady's okay too, right?
Like I didn't hear anything.
I saw her get up and she looked okay.
Right.
But yeah.
Because I joke, the best two movies this year have been horror movies,
sinners and weapons.
We almost saw the worst horror movie of the year when Julio got run into by that woman.
But it was a cool thing.
You know, I hope they get a chance to do this again.
And I hope they play a hell of a lot better than the next time when they get another chance.
Mariner's face the Phillies starting tomorrow.
Yeah.
Yes.
Tomorrow, 345.
And guess, I'll just say this.
They face three straight lefties.
So be ready for lots of Mitch Garver and Dylan Morley.
Yeah.
And some Solano, I'm assuming, too.
By the way, Josh Naylor looks kind of awful right now.
And I'm wondering if that has to do with the injury.
Hmm.
That's interesting.
Maybe it's not the worst thing to get Solano in there, who actually has looked decent the last couple times he's been in the lineup.
So do you want to, I have to leave.
I'm just going to say that, like, throw that out there right now.
I have something at 8 o'clock.
Really appreciate you guys hanging out with us today.
I like the video if you haven't already.
Do you have any more to say, Chris Crawford?
Because I know there's a lot kind of on people's minds.
No.
We'll kind of wait.
I'm thinking we'll do a little bit of a longer episode to end the road trip, kind of like reset everything.
Like, all right, we have the 9-1 homestand.
Yeah.
We'll see what happens at the end of this road trip and kind of reset and see where everything's at that point.
Does that sound good to go?
Yeah, that's fine.
Yeah, the only thing I'll end with is I don't want anybody to be, and you can fan all you want.
I don't think anyone should be panicked right now, right?
Like, you've won nine straight before that.
This team was not going to go 108 and 54, right?
Like, this just, that isn't what was going to take place.
You have to lose games.
The good thing is you've avoided that super long losing streak.
You've avoided that six given seven game calamity.
Go win two of three and you have a four and five road trip, right?
That's not such a horrible thing.
It means you got to play really well at home, but it's not such a bad thing.
Yeah, and honestly, they've been a better team at home lately.
So I think that's something we can hopefully expect when they return.
Phillies are a tough team, though.
So getting two out of three is going to be a tough ask.
Even if you get one, just can't get swept.
You cannot get swept in this series.
Amen.
All right.
Thanks, guys. Really appreciate it. We'll talk to you guys again tomorrow again. Apologies for the shorter episode, but we got stuff to do. And it was kind of a simple, like, game today. Like George Kirby bad, offense wasn't good.
Well, you forgot the roof, by the way. We would have been, you would have been fine if not for the stupid weather delay. Come on, low-A minor league baseball team. I totally forgot about that. Another loss in a rain delay. The Mariners are now one in seven with some awful performances. So I'm keeping that on my ledger, similar to the Mitch Garver catching.
for George Kirby thing.
All right.
I'm going to wait until I get pooped wrong on that.
We root to be wrong on this show.
We root to be wrong.
Any last words, Chris Crawford.
Go, Mariners.
