I don't even know where else to go with this, but, man, alive, they can't do anything right. We're running out of superlatives to talk about this baseball team at this. this point. The Mariners lose 7 to 1 to the Texas Rangers. If Houston wins, they fall to

a third in the AL West. So long are the feelings of you can grab first place with this series. Now you're just trying to break even and get a split because, but at this point, you're just trying not to get swept because of how bad these guys are playing. I don't know, man. Yeah. I went live a little sooner. Usually I try and collect my thoughts before I hit that go live button. But this team just doesn't have the juice, man, for whatever reason.

And it's basically the same team. Mine is Jorge Polanco and Gino Suarez. And maybe those two guys are just the greatest to ever do it, even though both of them are for different reasons. are having weird years this year. What are we doing? Where, where's the, where's the urgency? Where's the fight?

Where's the, this is a big series? Everyone's saying it is, right? To the, the broadcast is, the pregame stuff, the postgame stuff. It's all talking about how big this series is, but the guys are just playing like it's just one of one. I don't understand. I really don't understand. I don't know why there's just no feeling that this needs to be better. There's just there's no accountability.

I compare this series and I know it's slightly different situations, but remember last year, I believe it was like one of the last series of the year against Houston, right, in 2025. The Mariners actually went into that series one game back of the lead in the AOS, I want to say. And if you win two out of three, you take, or maybe they were even at that point. Maybe they were exactly dead even with a three game set in Houston. But if you take two out of three, you take the lead in the division. But that wasn't good enough for them. They showed that they were ready to take it, that it was their time to go,

and win this division and just complete sweep of the Houston Astros. Compare that to what we're witnessing right now with this Mariners team who continue to act like they have all the time in the world to figure this out. Either that or they already know this season's done and they're playing out the string. Either one of those is a completely inexcusable way to go about this. It's just not looking good. And each loss with what, six more days until the trade deadline, five more days, really, until the trade deadline. Each loss is making it less and less likely that Jerry DePoto and company, Justin Hollander,

are going to be able to go and add to this team and make the necessary moves to get this team over the hump. And that's the argument with doing the goods in the off season instead of the regular season. That way you're not wasting 112 games or whatever at this point, right? You're instead of just waiting to see what your team is, you should already know what your team is. You should be doing that ahead of time. It's a whole other discussion for another day. I mean, what do we say? had Brian Wu on the road. Let's start with the start because he was bad. He was just bad.

Five innings pitch. He somehow gets through five, nine hits, five run runs, two walks, five Ks. I mean, it could have been even worse, which is the weird part because the first two innings looked terrible from him. And we normally think of Brian Wu as a guy who shows emotion on the mound, which more often than not, I think is a good thing. He's a guy who kind of battles a little bit, and when he makes a big pitch, gets out of a jam, you could see him, you know, exert that passion, right? But in these sort of situations where there's obviously a narrative now

about him pitching on the road versus him at home, that's always in the back of his head. He plays to the moment a little bit. you know, when it's a big moment and you need him to make a big pitch, more often than not, you can trust him to do that. He was the marriage's best pitcher last year during the entire regular season. But then when this kind of stuff happens and it starts to snowball, he plays into that. He plays into that big time. It's hard to explain because I don't see anything mechanically different with him on the road versus him at home. It's not like T-Mobile parks.

suppressing everything with his stuff at home and he's getting lucky. I don't see that at all. I just see a mentality difference from a guy who knows that this is the narrative now. And he's trying to go out there and prove it wrong. But because that's in the back of his head, he's not pitching the same way that he normally would. So for whatever reason, Brian Woolen the Road's your worst starting pitcher this year. like worse than Luis Castillo, worse than George Kirby.

It's, and it's bad, it continues to get worse. It continues to get worse and worse and worse. And look, the offense wasn't any better. So it's even if you pitched a gem today, I don't think they would have been able to climb out of it based on how they're playing. I mean, you have Luke Rayleigh playing centerfield. God almighty. I don't get that decision at all.

If Julio is good enough to play and be in the lineup, he should be playing center field. Now, I know this year the metrics don't favor his defense that much, but definitely he has been better in center field the last couple months. The first month or two were god-awful. So he's been one of your only positive defensive players, but yeah, let's stick him at DH. Let's do that in a big series.

And what? Was it the third batter? Second or third batter that it already showed. And maybe Julio doesn't make that catch in the first inning that Luke Rayleigh just totally whiffed. And then Dom Kanzone bobble. But I like to think you would have had a better chance to catch it. But even if you want to sit Julio because his butt is hurting, okay? Whatever.

Sure. Play him at DH. and don't play him in centerfield. Why is Victor Robles not playing centerfield? And you can tell me Luke Rayleigh in the lineup versus a right-handed pitcher all you want, right? He's been awful the past month, at least. Luke Rayleigh has offensively.

And Victor Robes, I said this last night as well, he's not that much better. He's not a guy that should be playing every day at this point. Absolutely not. I'm not advocating for that. But if you're taking out one of your best, defensive players and putting him a DH when you have like six DHS playing in the field at this point. Center field should be a spot where you have a good defensive player. Luke really is not that.

I'm sorry. Just because he can cover some ground when he's running to first base and he jogs more or he sprints more than every other player on this team doesn't mean that he's a good center fielder, guys. That's not the reason why the Mariners lost the game. That just ticked me off when I saw that because there's there's an easy solution right there. Robles, center. You can keep maybe Rayleigh and right if you really want to have a better defensive player there too. But Canzone, you can't take him out of the lineup.

And if you want it, D.H. Julio, I just, I don't get that anyway. But whatever. But I'm going to say the same thing that I said the other night, right? Julio goes over four, two Ks. Rosa Rana goes one for four because he gets a hit literally the ninth inning. the Richie Sexton hit of the day. Naylor goes O for three with a walk. Cow Raleigh goes O for three.

Those four guys, once again, one hit. One hit and it came in the ninth inning and one walk. You're not going to do anything if those four guys aren't hitting guys. It's just, it's not going to happen. I'm not going to go into detail about what they should do at the trade deadline. That's a tie and Colby conversation. they'll have you covered on Monday. I'm sure they'll be thrilled.

After what's been just a dog crap of a series for the Mariners so far. But, I mean, at this point, they're not playing good enough to warrant selling your future, right? Even if I'm a guy who likes to be a little bit more aggressive on that front, they're 51 and 54. We're on July 25th, right? now. It's it's it's it's no longer just okay they'll figure it out at some point right it's not it's not that right now um if you crawford decent day two hits uh good to see him back i still think

he provides value offensively for a team that has some poor approaches at the plate he consistently gives you a decent at bat more often than not don't love him in the field but we'll deal with that with him at third now. Colt Emerson, good to see him kind of a couple decent days in a row. Just gets the one hit today. But, you know, they mentioned this on the broadcast, too. If this is him kind of adjusting to the adjustment, that's good for him. That's going to be kind of a long-term watch,

especially if this season continues the way it's going. You're going to want to see the Cole Youngs, the Colt Emerson's start to. That's the guys you're going to be watching the most at this point, which is sad because if you're not thinking about results, You're thinking about your young guys for future seasons. And that's not the place I expected to be thinking about on August 20 or excuse me, July 25th. But that's where we are right now because the Mariners, I believe the Astro game. Astros game is not completely done yet.

Let me double check. Because if they win, they're in third place. So it just went final. Mariners are in third place. Like, yeah. You're two and a half back. You're three games under 500. You're not even in a wildcard spot at this point.

At what point, okay, this is where we get into some stuff because, you know what? I'm going to break. We'll come back. We'll discuss kind of selling, buying urgency, non-urgency, manager changes, whatever. We'll talk about all that stuff here coming up. It's the Mariners Postcast, 7-1 Mariner loss. They are now staring a possible series loss for four-game sweep right in the kisser. They have to win the next two games if they are just to split the series with the Texas Rangers.

Welcome back to the Mariners Post. I'm Anderson-Hurst. We'll take a few minutes here to kind of discuss. us the predicament that the Mariners are in right now because after losing the first two games of the Texas Rangers series that everyone was touting as one of the bigger series of the season,

if not the biggest up till this point, where if you would have won the series, you could have took the lead in the division now because you've lost the first two games of the series. You now are looking at third place in the division with two and a half back of the Rangers and what, four games under 500 at this point? three games, excuse me, with the wild card really starting to get away from you as well, almost even more so than a division because of how other teams in the American League are playing. We're at a turning point, and it's unfortunate that we're getting to this spot where the Mariners are playing themselves out of contention, not into contention, out of contention,

which is opposite of what you're seeing from Boston, which is the opposite of what you're seeing from Detroit. there's countless other teams across the American League that are doing the opposite of what the Mariners are doing right now and making it hard for them for their general managers to justify selling. And now the Mariners are making it hard to justify buying at this deadline. Look, I know at the end of the day, it doesn't change a whole lot based on two games, right? and the Mariners traditionally haven't been super interested in the pure rental stuff anyway. But last year that did change and it worked out pretty well in their favor.

I think everyone would tell you that the Josh Naylor and Ehuenio Suarez trades for last year were the right moves for the Mariners and made them better suited to make the run that they did. and then even signing another, what, six, seven, five years for Josh Naylor. We'll see how that looks in a few years. But this is the predicament here because, okay, if you're going to still try and tell yourself that you're in by mode and that there's a sense of urgency to win this year still now at this point being in third place in the AL West, then you can't tell me that Dan Wilson's going to be your manager that much longer because there has to to be some sort of connection between how the guys are playing and accountability. You can't just fire the third string hitting guy.

Of course, when I say that, Ego Martinez, Kevin Siteser, and then of course, Maggianos, who just got fired, that doesn't send any message. And news flash, nothing's changing at this point. So if you want to really sell that you're urgent and you want to be in buy mode, it's time to can the manager. And we'll wait to really full on get on that train until I wait. If they come back and split this series, then we can, I guess, put it off a little bit longer.

I'm not going to really change my full on opinion, but that's where we're at. But if you lose the series, and especially if you get swept, it's time. It's absolutely time. Either that or you're selling and you're playing for next year or the couple of years down the road, which a lot of people could argue is the right move for the Mariners at this point, as more teams play themselves into contention and you're playing yourself out of contention. So that's a predicament the Mariners are in. And the players don't show like, they're not showing that they really want to be in it this year.

There's no sense of urgency. fight, they're still kind of laughing, giggling in the dugout, losing 7 to 1 and about to lose what, your fourth straight game. Not good enough. Absolutely not good enough. And again, that comes from the top down, right? So if the Poto, if Hollander are still serious about winning it this year, it's a man, it's going to be managerial decision time.

It's time to move on from Dan Wilson. And look, the last two games, specifically in terms of in-game decisions, there's nothing that he has done that is like, oh, my God, what is he doing? But we've seen that far too often this year. And it's the vibe that you get with the type of lack of focus, lack of energy that this team is having right now. And it just makes too much sense for me to move on from the manager if you want to buy it this year. If you're just playing it out and you get it with selling and moving on and playing for next year and further on, then whatever. Then it doesn't matter that much to me. You can get rid of them in the offseason.

But that's the predicament of the Mariners in. You either are selling or you're buying and getting rid of the manager. You can't do the buy and keep Dan Wilson because nothing's going to change at that point. Hopefully we have a different tune in the next two games. It's an early game tomorrow. They need to win these next two. like straight up end of story it needs to be better we got 1135 start for the next two days so we'll talk to you guys after that game but until then we'll talk to you next time go mariners
