Don't worry.
You only get one more episode of this, and then things will probably get better.
This is the Mariners Postcast.
Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners, part of the locked on podcast network,
your team every day.
I don't even know what to say, man.
Mariner's lose 7 to 6.
they fall to, I believe, 8 and 11 on the season,
and they guarantee a series loss to the San Diego Padres.
Oh, the Vetter Cup.
The Vetter Cup is in perilous, perilous form right now
because they're going to have to win the next four to win the Vetter Cup.
My name is Chris Crawford.
We go live after every single Seattle Mariner game.
I'm usually joined by Anders Finn Hurst.
Anders is covering the hockey team that is trying to tank.
The Seattle Mariners aren't tanking.
they just stink when they don't play the Houston Astros.
And they really stink when they're not playing in T-Mobile Park.
We'll talk about Emerson Hancock.
We'll talk about who I nicknamed Luke Rakey,
but we'll also end up talking a lot about a really, really bummer of a loss.
To take a 6-0 lead and then to blow it is just, it sucks.
And this is one of the things about going live.
And I appreciate all the comments.
and I know a lot of you are, a lot of you are very upset and asking me what happened and I appreciate it.
But this is the nice thing about going live too is that or going game by game because it's cathartic.
It's your chance to blow off some steam.
It's your chance to, you know, just let it all out, baby, because the Mariners were the overwhelmingly better team for seven and a half innings, eight and a half, whatever it was.
but it didn't matter because you end up with another loss and oof-m-goof.
Let's start with the start, though, because there are positives to take from this game,
not a lot of them to think about right now, but I thought Emerson Hancock pitched great.
The first three innings from Emerson Hancock were as good as I've seen a Mariner starter this year,
and we've seen some really good Mariner starts this year.
I think he threw 25 of his first 33 pitches for strikes, six-inings.
of two-run baseball with five strikeouts, generates 10 swings and misses, which is pretty darn good,
only six hard hit balls against two. That's really impressive. And for those who missed it,
I had Justin Hollander on today hosting on KJR from 10 to 1. And I'll be doing the same thing again.
I would appreciate you guys tuning in. I asked him about Emerson Hancock and the difference.
And he mentioned the two fastballs. He mentioned the fact that those two fastballs have made a
huge difference. And it's true. You take a look at what they're doing against his sinker and his
foreseen fastball and nothing but impressive. Nothing but impressive. I, you know, I think that we have to
be cognizant of the fact that Hancock has looked good for stretches and then not so good. I'm believing.
I am believing. And what's interesting, too, is I asked, of course, what's going to happen when
Bryce Miller is healthy. What's going to happen with Kate Anderson healthy? And he didn't give much
of an answer because what the heck is he supposed to say there? But Emerson Hancock, the way he's
pitching has to be in this rotation. He's earned it. He has absolutely earned it. And I have,
I have a lot of confidence that he's going to be a solid mid-rotation starter. I have a lot of
confidence and they deserve a lot of credit. The bullpen. Maybe he will save the ninth inning
for the second half of the show.
But I thought Edward Vizarro did a nice job.
I thought Gabe Spire did a nice job.
Should we talk about Mooney now?
And then do, yeah, let's do it.
So Andres Munoz throws two thirds of an inning and gives up five runs on a walk with one strikeout.
He throws 18 for 26 pitches for strikes.
It's a second loss of the year.
He doesn't blow a save because he didn't come in in a save situation.
And he, um, he,
He's two and two on the year with a 9.45 ERA if I didn't mention that before.
I want to talk about how the bases get loaded against Andrez Munoz first,
because I am a person who likes to see the good with the bad, okay?
And it's bad.
Two thirds of an inning, five runs is bad, okay?
There you go.
There's the silver or the what you can take away.
You learned something today that five runs and two thirds of a three.
hitting is bad. Okay. Here's how the bases are loaded. A walk where I am almost 100% sure that the batter
swung on a two-two pitch. Then he ends, does issue the walk. A 55-mile-per-hour double. And by a 55-mile-per-hour
double, I mean an exit velocity of 55 miles per hour. And a Thai-France infield hit, that speedy
Thai-France that we always remember. Now, Munoz probably should have made a better play on the
baseball. And if he does, then he gets out of this thing.
That's how you load the bases. Now, he gives up hard contact to Fernando
Tatis to drive in the run. And then there's hard contact after that.
Here's what I'll just say. It's frustrating.
I want to see Andres Munoz dominate every single time he is out there.
I have zero concerns about what I saw from Andres Munoz tonight.
And many of you do because you are prisoners of the moment.
And that's fine.
That's what this show is here for, is being prisoners of the moment.
You can be a prisoner of the moment.
I didn't see anything that suggested that Andres Munoz is off.
One of those hits was a pitch that is running into his hands that just dumps into left field.
And oh, by the way, on the double to left field, Randy a Rosarina, my man, boy, you are just a terrible defensive player.
And I think some people have brought up in the comments as well, by the way, that maybe Munoz is a not having the rest maybe had an issue there.
And it's fair.
Somebody brings up the fact that he hasn't had his best command for all of his outings.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I've seen more than enough good stuff for Munoz this year.
It was ugly against the Astros where he loads the bases.
This was even worse.
I just have no concern.
You guys are well within your right to be worried or whatever.
But and then Jose Ferrer, the decision to go there instead of to Matt Brash.
It's not my favorite.
It's not my favorite from Dan Wilson.
But here's what I'll say.
Was Andres Munoz good today?
I would not say yes.
Did I see anything from Andres Munoz today or even that game against the Astros
where he lows the bases or.
The game before that, that suggests to me that Andres Munoz isn't still one of the best closures in baseball?
No, absolutely not.
All right, we'll talk about the offense, some good and some really bad,
but we got to have some love for our sponsors as well.
Thank you so much for tuning in to the locked on Mariners Postcast.

Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast.
My name is Chris Crawford and Anderson Hurst is watching.
I believe the crack and lose about 42 to 1 the last time I checked,
not going so good.
Tank, tank, tank, tank.
Let's talk about the offense.
I'll start with the positives and, you know, you get 10 hits,
you draw seven walks, you score six runs.
That's a pretty good day at the plate.
And I'll give you my unsung hero early.
it's Leo Rivas because it's a 2-0 game and Leo Rivas challenges what looked like potentially
strike three it ends up not being he ends up getting on base and Brendan Donovan doubles
that lead for nothing.
Some really good at bats tonight.
Julio goes 0 for four.
He's robbed of a homer by one of the best catches I've seen this year from Jackson Merrill,
but hits the balls hard, draws another walk, keeps the on-base street going.
Brandon Donovan, one for three with a couple RBI, that big two-run hit,
big dumper doubles and draws a walk.
You will take that for sure.
Randy or Rosarina, while the defense, two for four with three runs scored in a walk.
There's nothing to complain about what he's doing at the plate.
Kenzone gets the two-run hit, but Luke Rayleigh is the story of this game,
or should have been the story of this game, but, well, God hates to Seattle Mariners.
sometimes. I'm sorry for being too, uh, too into it. What's up, Anders? Go away.
This is not, no, this is not fun, my man. This is, dude, what happened? Uh, they, they,
STB'd they absolutely, that bed is to be thrown away because you have a six nothing lead and all of a
sudden it is seven to six. There were some positives from this game, though, Anders, like Emerson
Hancock looked good. Um, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Luke Rayleigh looked great.
Yeah.
Five with a Homer and a double.
Randy Rose Arena when he wasn't playing defense looked really good.
Fair enough.
With three runs scored.
Have you talked about the bullpen?
Yeah, and I'll talk about it again just because everybody's throwing a fit,
and that's totally fine.
They're well within their rights.
This is how they load the bases off of Andres Munoz, if you miss it.
Yeah, okay.
Let me just quickly previs.
I'm not going to be here for super long.
I did hockey during this.
So I turned it off at 6-0 thinking it was done.
and then I'm like, all right, you know, I'll pay attention to the game.
I'm actually broadcasting for once.
You know, that's probably a good thing to do.
I'm here at the IHeart Studios.
I got Jess McIntyre with me, by the way.
Say hi.
But, dude, like, seriously, walk me through it.
What happened?
So it's worth definitely going over again.
A walk on a – the pitch was clearly a ball.
The pitch before that, I think the batter swung, the umpire said no.
Okay.
a 55 mile per hour exit velocity double down the third baseline because they're playing the
shift against Gavin Sheets, second and third.
An infield hit from Thai France that loads the bases.
He got between that, by the way, he got a strike out of Nick Castiano's.
He gets Fernando Tatis to hit a sack fly.
It was hard hit, but a sack fly.
And then from there, the command was just bad.
And he, you know, he gives up a couple of runs.
they go to Jose Ferreir to get the final out,
and he can't do it,
and Randy Rosarina misplaced the ball on left field,
and it allows the winning run to score.
You have caught it?
No, no, no.
So it would have been a play where it was bouncing around,
and then that run is easily able to score
because he misplays the ball in left field,
so that runner is able to score.
He has no arm, no, anyway.
So even if he gets me,
and he might have been able to score anyway,
but like, oof, oof, ma goof.
All right. Well, I'll let you continue to go. I just wanted to step in and be like WTF, mate.
Yeah. That's, hey, you know what? Maybe we'll start talking about the Mariners playing for draft picks just like the cracking soon.
Yeah. I mean, hey, that's what they're cracking at their job today. Let's go.
Oh, yeah, absolutely. See you, buddy.
All right, guys. Enjoy one of Chris's last couple postcasts because I know I missed it. That's why I hopped in.
I appreciate that. I appreciate that. I'll talk to you guys later. Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt.
Oh, you're good.
Lord knows I did it about a billion times.
So that's totally good.
It's all good.
All right.
Thank you.
You bet.
So the offense.
We saw Luke Rayleigh have a really good baseball game.
He's not hitting 339, 390, 1, 644.
And that is not a small sample.
And a lot of guys have good days at the plate.
The only person I believe who doesn't know, everybody gets on.
Here's a problem.
Oh, yeah.
There's definitely one person who doesn't get it.
on. It's Josh freaking Nailer. So this is problematic right now. It doesn't, it's not predictive.
But what's going on with Josh Nailer right now is really bad. And there's another selfish at bat here
where Julio draws a walk and you have a chance to play out on. He swings at the first pitch and
pops up meekly. And if I'm Mariner leaders, I'm kangaroo court fighting that guy for every time he
pops up every time he pops up after Julio draws a walk or after a good at bat from somebody
because oof, a goof. And yeah, these samples are small, but he's really killing you right now.
And his line right now is 125, 203, 208, and that includes a two homer game. So imagine how crappy
he's been outside of that one game. He's really hurting you. And tonight he really hurt you again.
but overall lots of people hurt you.
Naylor goes O for two with runners in scoring position.
Julio goes O for three with runners in scoring position.
Can zone one for three, young for one for three, three for 16.
You should have scored a lot more than six runs tonight.
This should have been an offensive slug fest.
You should have scored double-digit runs pretty easily.
And the fact you only got six, that's disappointing.
I won't normally say six runs is disappointing, but oof, magoof.
Just, and if you want to point out that as somebody literally just did, that six should be enough to win, though, okay.
But it sure would be nice if this team could have more than that when you get that many runners on.
That is just not good enough.
I'm really disappointed with what I've seen from Josh Naylor.
It's not predictive.
I think Josh Nader will be fine.
I can still say that I expect a lot more than this
from any three-week sample from your cleanup hitter.
Oof, this is just such a bummer of a loss,
and it guarantees another series loss,
and when you haven't faced the AA pitchers in Midland
that are the Houston Astros,
you've looked like a bad baseball team.
For those who missed it,
Uh, tomorrow will be my last show.
I am super appreciative of the support.
I'm super appreciative of everyone who's reached out.
Um, I've loved this.
I'll talk more about it tomorrow, but really appreciate if you come out tomorrow to
hopefully see the Seattle Mariners avoid a sweep.
Um, yeah, I'm going to be a little emotional.
I'm always a little emotional.
Verizon commercials make me cry.
Can you imagine what something like this is going to do?
Um, yeah, this is just such a disappointing way for this.
end. Man, I had so many things pre-written too when it was 6-0 because it just seemed like it was
going to be a walk in the park. And for those saying you love me, I love you too. I think some of your
opinions on closures aren't the best, but I love you. I love you very much. Please sit like,
please subscribe every episode. We go live after every single episode. And I just would like to go
live after a win someday.
