Locked On Mariners - Daily Podcast On the Seattle Mariners - MARINERS POSTCAST: Seattle Mariners win ANOTHER CRAZY ONE vs Los Angeles Angels

Episode Date: September 12, 2025

Anders is going solo today to break down the first game of 4 against the Angels.  The offense was good early with doubles from JP Crawford and Julio Rodriguez, and then disappeared.  Bryce Miller ha...d good stuff but also made a couple bad pitches that got punished, his defense also didn't help him.  Another extra innings walk off and the Seattle Mariners just continue to grind out wins. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! 5-Hour ENERGYTee up that trip! Starting point is 00:00:04 This is the Mariners Postcast. Your instant game reaction for the Seattle Mariners. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. I don't even know anymore, guys. I don't even know anymore. Oh my God. What? He's just, what?
Starting point is 00:00:36 Lived Harry from England. No, man. And like, I have no words. I have no words for what I just witnessed. Maya, why? Hmm, I wonder who that is. Why didn't you wait for me? You're welcome to join Chris Crawford.
Starting point is 00:01:00 You're welcome to join trying to explain this beautiful sport that we call baseball, because I can't do it anymore. I just can't. These last two games have been just bonkers. I mean, what? I'm just going to go full reaction mode. The Mariners are gutting out wins right now. And you can point to the fact that they shouldn't be doing this against sub-500 teams.
Starting point is 00:01:29 You could point to the fact that, honestly, in the long run, it may not even be the best thing that they extended this game to, what, 12 innings again tonight? I don't care. These guys are independent race. They know it. And they're gutting out wins. The bullpen has been as good as you can hope for running on empty at this point. I just, I don't even know.
Starting point is 00:02:00 I hope it doesn't come back to bite us because Bryce Miller can't get through, he gets through five, excuse me. Um, just, it gets almost through six. But again, your bullpen is stretching these games so much. And it's, I hope it doesn't come back to haunt you like it did in 2020. When, uh, they just got completely overworked. But that's not what we're here to talk about tonight. We're here to talk about the Mariners victory.
Starting point is 00:02:34 As you can tell, I am exhausted. Anonymous has entered the studio. You know how you can tell that I needed to just talk for like a couple of minutes about this game. Because I'm willing to let people see me look like this. Like that's how you know things have to be talking about. I need you to talk for a couple of minutes because I am exhausted. I mean, let me just give you my quick thoughts. And first of all, thanks for everybody for the kind thoughts.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I'd love to tell you this is the last time this is going to happen. and ain't the last time this is going to happen. It's just the way things are. But I really appreciate it. A bunch of you reached out, a bunch of you left nice comments. And of course, I appreciate my buddy Anders for picking up the slack because, let's be honest. I'm the better of the two of us, and we need me. You need me.
Starting point is 00:03:26 No, I've been kind of true. I wish it was, again, I wish it was, but it's not. I thought Bryce Miller outside of one inning was fantastic tonight. That's the best swing and miss stuff that I've seen from him. it doesn't excuse that one any. A couple bad pitches. Really bad pitches. And I realized, you know, what do they call that?
Starting point is 00:03:49 The hot shooter fallacy or whatever it's called where you feel like you're like you're on one? Because you strike out Mike Trout a couple of times and you think, oh, I can just throw this battle by him. And then you're reminded, oh, right, this is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Can't get away with that one. But there was lots of hard contact in that inning. Still super encouraged by what I saw. for 11 strikeouts. 11 strikeouts from a guy who was just not missed bats at all in 2025.
Starting point is 00:04:16 There was some awful at bats tonight after Julio's double. Just awful at bats after Julio's double. A.O. Nio Suarez played his worst game as a Seattle mariner, both offensively and defensively, him, the effort that he made on that bunch is unacceptable. If a different player made that effort, we would be having a conibption. And if a different player had that had a bat earlier that Gio Swartz said,
Starting point is 00:04:44 we would. The strikeout against, I believe it was Robert Stevenson where he just, there was a lot of bad at bats. There you go. I get you now. I mean, they were just awful. But you know what? I'm struggling to give a crap.
Starting point is 00:05:03 I was struggling at the top of the show. I don't know if you heard any of it. I did. I did. You can think about the long-term effects of this bullpen. You can think that why are they struggling? It's a terrible out-of-it Angels team that clearly does not care right now. I don't care. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:05:23 They're gutting out victories. And honestly, you can tell that these guys, whether they're at bats, show it or not, they want to be in it for the long run. Yeah, yeah. There's no doubt about this. teams want, right? Like, these are the type of games that the Seattle Mariners lose last year. Just they do.
Starting point is 00:05:46 They do. And whether you want to credit that to the team, to Dan Wilson, to whatever, go for it. It doesn't matter. It does not matter because you are in first place, folks. You're in first place. It's September 11th, 2025, and you're in first place. And don't listen to anyone who says tied for first place. You own the tiebreaker.
Starting point is 00:06:09 You're on the tiebreaker right now. You absolutely own the tiebreaker. You're in first place. You will go to ESPN right now. You look at the standings. And if the Seattle Mariners are on top, I know a bunch of the editors. I'll tell you who to email. I'll tell you who to email because the Seattle Mariners should be in first place.
Starting point is 00:06:27 David Schoenfeld, a few other guys there. If they do not show Seattle Mariners in first place, they are lying to you. They are lying to you. It's fake news, folks. It's fake news. Maybe I should make a reference like that on a different day. It's just a terrific win. Awesome job by Harry Ford.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Awesome job to, you know, he's known for his patience, right? He's a guy who's known for drawn free passes. No, you've got to be aggressive there. You get a pitch to drive in the outfield. Just get it done. Get it done. I'm curious if you saw the moment as he's in the batters, or in the on-deck circle, Kevin Siteser pulls him aside and talks into him.
Starting point is 00:07:08 I did it. I didn't. Oh, that's great. So, like, as Victor Rolbus, right before he squares up to bunt, and as Aaron Goldsmith's realizing it, it's like, wait, so if you're bunting Victor Rolos, that means you're setting up Harry Ford to win this game. And you see Sites or pull him to the side. You can chat with him for like 15, 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:07:28 I'm assuming telling him, like, yo, it's up to you. Get the ball in the outfield. Be aggressive. Let's go. Sort of. I'm watching them beat the crap out of them after the game, too. I mean, that's sometimes I wonder if I'd even want to get a walk off hit because they just, those are strong dudes that are beating the crap out of you there.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I'm not sure. I'd like that. I kind of prefer you go, go get the guy who scored them. Go get him instead of beating up me. I'm a polo, man. That's a clutch hit. Yeah, it's huge. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Polanco alternates from having some of the best at bats and the worst at bats in the clutch situations because so real quick the the mariners almost got screwed by catchers interference right like they that ball they should have been first and third and i was screaming ugh they lost out well then i watched poloncos at bat where he pops up to second base and i was like oh thank god it didn't matter because aoh honey o swarz and luke raley both absolutely st b'd right afterwards but guys they won a game in 12 innings against a major league baseball team That's not one of the worst teams in baseball. It's a well below average team, but it's not one of the worst.
Starting point is 00:08:37 They won that game with their relievers in high leverage situations after Andres Munoz, who by the way was filthy tonight. Yeah. Filthy. You pitched Luke Jackson, who I believe has signed with nine teams this year and has been passed up by a 54. And that might be slightly hyperbolic. You guys might want to look that up.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Pitchers aren't athletes. And then Jose Castillo. Guys, they won a game with those guys, limiting the damage too to just the one zombie run. By the way, I went on a big tirade on Blue Sky where I was talking about, there better not be one freaking arm not available if you are pitching Luke Jackson in the situation. There better not be one available. Well, it turns out there was one, and it's so like, you know, who's not that much better? Yeah, at that point, you're just like, well, okay, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:09:28 But you know what? Great job by the offense to get those runs. Was I frustrated when J.P. Crawford didn't make that play in the infield? Yes. Was I also super proud of my son for that clutch, clutch base it to tie the game? Heck yeah,
Starting point is 00:09:44 I was pet. Everybody today has some good moments outside of Aohenio Suarez, which kind of is a bummer, but you know what? Wins a win. I got to go. I love you all so much. Let's do this again tomorrow, okay?
Starting point is 00:10:00 13 innings? Not this, no. 13 innings. No, just the Mariners win. 13 innings. Okay. Exit me out of here because I don't know how. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Get out of here. Thanks Chris Crawford for stopping by. I really appreciate him. Yeah, I want to talk a little bit. After our break, I want to talk a little bit about Dan Wilson because we've had a lot of shots at him recently. I think this is a great example of the good that he brings to this team. We'll talk about that next on the Mariners Postcast here on Locked on Mariners' YouTube channel.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Got and feel up and turning up with five-hour energy transfusion. This grape, ginger, and lime-flavored shot brings the iconic taste of a golf course favorite to a non-alcoholic boost. Perfect for sinking birdies or making great memories with friends. It's a whole-in-one for your energy game. Whether you're out on the course or just need a little extra push to power through your day, five-hour energy transfusion delivers the clubhouse flavor you love without ever leaving the green. The biggest thing for me, like, if you're someone that needs that little extra jolt of energy, you know, you can go to your coffee in the morning that kind of screws with your stomach.
Starting point is 00:11:13 It takes a while to drink. It's just a quick little shot. It's healthier for you. You don't get all the acidity in your system. And especially, like, if you're on the golf course, like, what's perfect for, you just throw it, Throw it back really, really quick, and you're good to go. It's needed for me. I'm someone who bakes in the sun, and when I'm in the sun for long periods of time or outside,
Starting point is 00:11:40 I get my energy drains really, really quickly. So it's honestly something I've used multiple times, and I couldn't recommend it more. Golf's all about good times of good people and good flavors. The great ginger lime flavor of five-hour energy transfusion gives you the best parts of your clubhouse go-to without leaving the course or chasing down the bed cart. Now you can amp up the fun even more. Just buy, snap, and enter for a chance to win a dream golf trip for two to any golf tournament in the USA.
Starting point is 00:12:06 T-up that trip, make sure to visit 5H-E-WIN.com for full rules and entry. No purchase necessary, excludes the Masters Tournament, and ends October 31, 2025. The NFL season is finally here, and Fandul is making sure you're ready for kickoff with a can't-miss offer. Right now, new customers can bet just $5. and if your bet wins, he'll get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. You can use that $5 bet anywhere. It can be on a prop bet. It can be on an over-under.
Starting point is 00:12:41 It can be on a money line. However you want to do it, I would do it on something you feel pretty confident in because then you get $300 in bonus bets to use across the entire app. And that's a fantastic offer from Fandul. I like the Seahawks plus three and a half against the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend. I think they at least keep the game close. I can see a game winning field goal for either team. I think it's going to be an extremely close back and forth game.
Starting point is 00:13:09 So Seahawks plus three and a half away at Pittsburgh is definitely the pick for me this weekend. Are you ready to play? Download the Fandual app now by visiting Fandual.com to get started. That's Fandual.com to place your first $5 bet. You've probably seen millions of ads for hair growth products and thought, sure. Like that actually works. There are so many products out there and it's hard to know which ones are actually going to do anything. That's why you should give Nutrifol a closer look.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Neutral is the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement brand trusted by over one and a half million people. And it's not just type. This is a supplement clinically tested that targets the root causes of thinning and shedding with a proactive approach. Excuse me. It's it's just that easy. If you're someone who, you know, has your hair thinning and it's part of your identity like it is for me. I'm a, like I said earlier, I'm a big soccer guy. You see those, they work on their hairstyles just continuously.
Starting point is 00:14:11 So having a good head of hair is very, very important to me. Highly recommend Nutraful. See thicker, stronger, hair with less shedding in just three to six months with Nutraful. For a limited time, Nutriful is offering locked on MLB listeners, $10 off your first month's subscription and free shipping. thing when you go to NutraFull.com and enter the promo code locked on MLB. That's NutraFull.com promo code locked on MLB. Welcome back to the Mariners Postcast, Anderson Hurst here. Mariners win this one.
Starting point is 00:14:44 I am exhausted. They win the game against the Los Angeles Angels 7 to 6 to open the series. That is their sixth straight win. It seems like it's a weird. It's a different stretch than in the beginning of August when wins kind of came pretty easy. And you just kind of glided through the part of your schedule. These guys are grinding out results right now. And I honestly think it's perfect preparation for playoff baseball.
Starting point is 00:15:10 And that's really what it feels like. Cinebond asks, do Nutraful help with Mariners-induced hair loss? Yes, it does. Any way you lose your hair, I've pulled out my hair multiple times. Nutriful is definitely helpful with that. So highly recommend it. I want to talk a little bit about Dan Wilson here in the last couple minutes because, as you guys probably have known,
Starting point is 00:15:30 I've been as big of a critic of Dan Wilson in his in-game management, in his lack of fire, so to speak, as anyone, whether it's on Twitter, whether it's a personality or someone who is lucky enough to have a platform like I do here. I think this win is an example of the good that he brings to the Seattle Mariners. Now, even today, I wasn't a fan of a lot of the decisions. I believe it was in the 10th inning or 11th inning. I don't even remember now. When they decide to walk Yohan Mancotta, and that's when Taylor Ward hits the grounder up the middle. He has the infield, like, half in.
Starting point is 00:16:13 And my good friend Callahan Buckel on X, if you guys aren't following him, please do. He's the beat reporter for Emerald City Spectrum. He's at almost every single Mariner baseball game. And he provides some great insight. He mentions that it's, you don't have a play at home because you're not playing the infield fully in, but you're not playing double play depth either. So if you're going to walk the guy to open up the double play, at least just play for the double play.
Starting point is 00:16:39 There were some weird decisions. I'm not going to get into it because I want to just highlight how much it seems like this team is battling and fighting more than I ever have seen them before. Now, there are times where I get frustrated with the, I don't want to say, a lack of effort because I don't want to always be that guy. Unieski Betancourt now joins us. I can't sleep. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:03 So I was just talking about Dan Wilson and, okay, even like some of the decisions that he made tonight, I think this is a good example of the good that he brings to this team. They seem to have a lot more fight and battle because they're just grinding out results right now. Yeah, I think that's totally fair. And it's why you can be critical of the Seattle Mariners results. You can be critical of the in-game decisions. You can be critical of a bunch of stuff. You write, like not looking ready to play in some of these rainblains and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:17:39 But ultimately, what it comes down to, that's like a Latinus Morset lyric. What it comes down to is how. Thank you. Thank you. The players clearly like playing for this guy. There's almost no doubt in my mind. And that matters. Quickly, Jack, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:01 It's the coach's decision to place the infield. As far as I know, right, Chris Crawford? Yes. So there's discussions that have had with the front office in the Atlanta Analytical Department that ultimately decides, not ultimately decides, but says like, hey, this is when you want to play the infield in, this is when you want to shift. There's a whole bunch of data that they go over. but ultimately Dan Wilson does the or the yeah he that's all he makes the decision yeah yes now sometimes
Starting point is 00:18:28 there's an infield coach who helps with that stuff as well you know like perry hell may be saying hey jp you need to move over step uh you know polanco maybe he's take a couple steps back and then for the outfield you know that type of alignment stuff but you see the cards too you see the cards that guys have that say okay we play them right here we play them uh back we we adjust to play from the pole we adjust to play for an opposite field hitter, all of that stuff. But Dan Wilson ultimately is the guy that says, and Dan Wilson can also tell Perry Hill or Christopher Nogrona. No, I want them playing here.
Starting point is 00:19:02 I want this in this situation, particularly playing the infield in. So, but yeah, I think Dan Wilson, as frustrated as I've been with some of the endgame decision stuff, deserves a ton of credit for not letting this thing fall apart. I was thinking, just being honest with everyone, When they lost that game to Atlanta on Friday, I thought we were on the verge of collapse.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I thought we were on the verge for a collapse as well. And they've won six straight since then. And now they've won six straight baseball games. And if you want to call that prisoner of the moment, go for it. Go for it. I think it's just more reacting to what we're seeing. And I, not to toot my own horn too much, when Julio hit that two-run
Starting point is 00:19:51 Homer to give them the lead, I said I thought that was a season-defining moment. It kind of seems like it is at this point. Might have been because I don't know what happens if you lose that baseball game. I don't know. And the Saturday Atlanta game you're talking about. That's the Saturday Atlanta game where there was
Starting point is 00:20:05 2-2. They had an early 2-0-0 lead because of a Julio Homer. And then wham. And they just, they look like so much more of a complete unit right now. By the way, I'm looking at the Andings right now on Root Sports and it has Mariners right on the top and it's just beautiful. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:20:27 There's two weeks of games, guys. There's two weeks of games. This matters. It matters where you are right now. Yeah. Yeah. Like it was it's actually exactly 17 games left, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:39 No, uh, 14 games. 14. 14. So you know what it is? It's, uh, it's the college football season with your conference championship game. and you got an extra game because you went and played in Hawaii. Did you know that rule? That if you go play in Hawaii, you get to play one extra game?
Starting point is 00:20:56 I think that's pretty cool. I would go play in Hawaii for that. Yeah. Yeah, as long as we get that. Yes. You mentioned a couple of things. We only have a couple minutes here. You mentioned a couple things about the at-bats.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I just wanted to mention, especially during extra innings, because, again, same thing as last night where I'm just like, I can't remember anything before. Extra innings. I'm going to be completely honest with you guys. Sure. But it seems like to me there's one guy that's willing to work the count and take a walk. Now I realize a lot of the time they're intentionally walking him, but it's Cal Raleigh.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And everyone else is just kind of freaking out in high leverage situations. I don't know what it is. It's everyone. The only guy, Anders, please tell me yesterday that you threw a connipion at J.P. Crawford not scoring on that play. God, yes, yes. Okay, thank God. Because otherwise I would happily and go back to it because it drove me insane.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Randy looks okay. But everyone, Julio had some atrocious at bat yesterday in extra innings. Josh Naylor had an awful at bat today in a massive situation, massive situation. And I think, I don't think it's the moment's too big for them. At the same time, I think they are trying to. to do too much. I think both things can be true there. I think both things can be true there where it's not like, uh, this moment's so big.
Starting point is 00:22:27 I don't know what to do. I need to change my diapers or anything like that. But I also think there is maybe a little bit too much like I've got to be the hero. I've got to be that guy. And it doesn't seem like Cal really has that. He's like he's totally fine. And especially because he knows that they're going to avoid pitching him. I've been absolutely.
Starting point is 00:22:46 I've been so impressed with Raleigh over. these last few games that instead of chasing after these homers, you know, the outside shot of getting to 60, the outside, it's kind of outside now. He's going to need to really pick it up in order to break that Mariner record now. I don't think he cares about that. He wants to wait. And he, you know what? He shouldn't. He shouldn't. The ultimate goal in baseball is to score runs. The way to do that is to get on base. A great way to get on base is not swinging at pitches outside of the strike zone and he is just letting the game come to him and you know it puts a lot of pressure on naylor and hulio with this right because when he's on first base those guys got to get
Starting point is 00:23:24 drive him in and julio's first two at bats by the way i was scared to all hades that he had hurt himself after that because they just flat i i cal is number one on the can't lose julio's an easy number two easy because of his defense and how well he's played offensively that's the the most obvious point I've ever made on this thing, but that's okay. The, oh, unsung hero today. Goodness gracious. Edward Vizarro, man, that guy's a beast. He is a freaking problem, man.
Starting point is 00:23:57 He has been so dominant. The Mariners have three really good relievers, like really, really good relievers. And then Gabe Spires right on that tier right now, too. And he's been ahead of Bizarro for most of the year. Right now, Bizarro's as good as anyone. Like the ability to generate swing and miss now, which he wasn't doing. He was getting a lot of weak contact. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:18 Dazzard is a demon. It's been fun to watch. To completely agree. I would go the whole bullpen, but I did that yesterday. Who's my unsung? I'm going to go with Jorge Polanco. It kind of gets lost in it. His double to tie the game in the 12th inning because Harry's the one who walks it off.
Starting point is 00:24:40 but that was just an excellent piece of hitting. And I think along with Cal, and I think you put it perfectly, where it's like every other at that, it seems like he does well in the quote situation. Yeah. But it, that's pretty good, by the way.
Starting point is 00:24:54 That's pretty good. I just wish the highs and lows weren't so extreme in those situations, but I'll take 50-50. And I thought Goldsmith brought it up perfectly, too, that like, well, that escalated quickly. That just jumped up, and I knew the Mariners were going to win after that. Absolutely knew they were going to win. So that was fun.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I'll let you close out the show. I love you very much. Goodbye. Thank you, Unieski, Betancourt, for joining us. Yeah, what a fun victory. The Mariners win this one, 7 to 6 for their second straight extra innings victory, 25 innings in the last two days. Who do we got tomorrow? Let's see.
Starting point is 00:25:36 It is. Bryce Miller pitched today. Oh, that means we have Luis Castillo against Yusay Kikuchi tomorrow. God, it would be a perfect day for Luis Castillo to go like seven innings and just give this bullpen a little bit of rest. Yusay Kukuchi's return to Team Mobile Park. We'll see how that goes. He's had a pretty up and down year himself.
Starting point is 00:26:02 We got to keep this rolling, though. I think there's a sense of urgency that they need to capitalize on this current winning streak because winning streaks we talked about before defined seasons. We saw it in 2022, and it's just, it's going to be huge. If the Mariners can continue to keep this going, they're now in first place in the AOS. They need to hold their own. I've said it all along. I'm not even scoreboard watching because I believe more this year than any other year.
Starting point is 00:26:28 They have control their own destiny. They can beat any team that they play against. And I don't believe the other two teams, if the Mariners are playing the way they should, are even a factor. The Mariners are the best team, the AOS. They need to prove that and win the division. They have the opportunity to do that right now. Okay, everyone, let's go get some sleep.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Mariner's playing in tomorrow at 640. We'll talk to you guys then. Really appreciate everything, every comment, every like on the video.
