Starting point is 00:00:00 The Mariners have flipped the script on their road woes going 5-1 in St. Louis and Minnesota, winning today 5 to 3 with yet another big day from Cole Young. We'll break it all down coming up here on the Lockdown Marers podcast. Colby, hit it. You are Locked-on Mariners, your daily Seattle Mariners podcast. Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day. Ahoy, Sailors. It is Wednesday, April 29, 2026. My name is heading as awesome.
Starting point is 00:00:34 of them joined as always by my co's Colby Patnode. Mirrors beat the twins five to three this afternoon and get back to 500 on the season. That's right. After everything that's happened this year, the Mariners are 500 at the end of the first full month of the season. This wind did come out of cost, though. Of course, Matt Brash had to leave after throwing just two pitches. We'll talk about that a little later on.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Seems like maybe the Marius have dodged a little bit of a bullet there, but we'll go over that a little bit later on. like I said. But to get things rolling here, really nice way to wrap up this road trip. And the Mariners Colby have gone from being one in eight on the road to now get this six and nine on the road. Nice. Nice. Nice. I mean, that record is actually not that nice. But the Mariners are the meme kings, as we know. Yeah. So, you know, they have a nice road trip. They win a series after a not so nice game on, on Monday in which it appeared they didn't even want to play that game. But, you know, they managed to bounce back and take a couple of games against two guys who are all-star candidates, you know, on the mound.
Starting point is 00:01:44 And obviously, they didn't really beat those guys, although technically Joe Ryan did get a loss. So, I mean, technically. But, you know, they walk away two and oh and games started by the twins' two best pitchers. Good on them for finding a way to scratch out a couple of wins here when, you know, they're not playing at their 100th percent. They're playing better, certainly. But we know that, you know, this team can play even better. They could play a little bit cleaner. Today, they didn't get really anything from 2, 3, 4.
Starting point is 00:02:12 They got a big sack fly from Cal for an insurance run, but really not all that much from them. And it was the bottom of the order that stepped up. And you kind of look at all the games of this road trip, with the exception of Monday. It really was a grinded out, kind of, you know, find a way to win the game at the end type of road trip for them. And that's that's Mariner Baseball.
Starting point is 00:02:32 right there. It's not pretty. It's never as easy as it should be. It doesn't matter if you're playing good teams or bad teams. You know, you kind of find a way to keep the game close and you win it late. And, you know, that's kind of what the Mariners have, you know, become known as. And you look at all their wins on this series, two runs or less in every single game. So it really is a good sign to see. And again, after a brutal month of, you know, well, brutal early month of April, the Mariners claw that was. way back to 500 and you know they managed to do it dealing with jp crawford's injuries and and bernand donovan's injuries and bryce miller's injuries and louis castillo not pitching well and munoz's blow-up
Starting point is 00:03:16 outing and the bullpen you know kind of doing a high wire act for parts of this month and then just being really good on this road trip so yeah it really is nice to see and and big part of that is you know the bottom of the order cole young types uh especially now but uh yeah you It was a very good road trip. Find a way to win games. Doesn't matter how pretty it is. You have to find ways to get into the win column. And here, there.
Starting point is 00:03:40 They've won five out of six, seven of the last 10. Like, they're on a good little run here. And then they have to face a pretty hot Kansas City team this weekend, which we'll talk about tomorrow. And you'll get to face their three best pitchers. Two of them are left-handed, by the way. So awesome. But that's the way it goes in baseball, man.
Starting point is 00:03:58 You really don't get a day off, but you do get a day off tomorrow at home. which will be nice for the team to have. Well, and this team is starting to find ways to win, even in some not great circumstances, right? You know, Joe Ryan, Taj Bradley, like, you know what the deal is here with this Twins club. You want to get into that bullpen, right? The mission is ultimately get Joe Ryan and get Tage Bradley out of the game as quickly as possible.
Starting point is 00:04:22 So you can get as many bites at the Apple as possible against this bullpen. And, you know, Todge Bradley winds up going seven in this one. so didn't necessarily do a fantastic job of that today, but you were able to get a couple of runs off of him, especially there towards the end of his start to knot things up. So overall, the offense did a pretty solid job against two of the better pitchers and all baseball here to start the 2026 season. And again, you mentioned it,
Starting point is 00:04:52 all the things that have happened leading up to today. You know, you mentioned all the injuries and some of the hiccups along the way and the 2, 3, 4 struggling, and all that. And yet, here they are, 16 and 16, very much well within range of accomplishing, you know, everything that they have set out to accomplish this year.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I think that's a real testament to the talent on this ball club. Yeah, I think that's fair. You know, they've kind of weathered it and looked that every team is going to go through similar things that the Mariners have gone through. this year and more bad things are going to happen to the Mariners. But this is why you build the deep, you know, you build the depth and you build a deep team. You try to have the deepest lineup you can. You try to have the deepest rotation you can because you're going to need all of these guys to step up.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And so, yeah, I think one thing we said at the beginning of the year is like, yeah, there's probably no team in the American League that is definitively more talented than the Mariners. And, you know, again, they're only 500. but you look at the rest of the American League, really only the Yankees have played consistently good baseball thus far. So, yeah, I think it's safe to say the Mariners are obviously a very talented team. And part of the reason that they've been able to claw their way back to 500 is just that they're just straight up more talented than some of these teams that we've seen. And so when other teams find a way to lose those games, the Mariners are finding a way to win them.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Because, you know, obviously, A, their talent, but also it's a veteran team. and many of them have been there and done that before and they know how to get it done. So yeah, very good signs all around for the Mariners. Yeah, again, I think it's a testament to the talent on this club. I think it's a testament to the makeup of this club. Getting into some of the specifics here, you know, again, it was another great series for Cole Young.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Great day for him at the plate. He drives in the winning run of this game on a broken bat single of the middle, which was kind of cathartic to watch. I mean, how many times have we seen the Marrars with the infield end give up a hit like that, where they get like the weak ground ball that they want, but it just finds a hole. It just somehow finds some grass. And that's what happened there for Cole. He drives in three today on a couple of hits.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Had a nice day yesterday as well. The Maras Blot win over the Twins. Again, like we talked about a few episodes ago, I don't know if he actually is the best second baseman in the American League, but he's certainly playing like it right now. Yeah, I mean, some of us made him their number one flag player and had a bold prediction that he'd be an all star. To be fair, he was both of our number one. Whatever. Like who got him, Ty, whose list is he on?
Starting point is 00:07:39 But I did have to make up for, I did have to, hold on. I did have to make up for how last year went and I did have to go get Randy first. Uh-huh. Play my music, Ty, because that's right. I don't think I have it loaded it. Added in post. So, yes, I nailed it. I also said that he was going to be an all-star.
Starting point is 00:07:57 now that was in the bold predictions episode but whatever it's a prediction sure sure sure what i say he's going to lead the team in on base too uh so yeah cole young's been obviously exceptional and yeah he is easily the uh starting second basement for the all star team if it was based on merit and not fan vote it's based on fan vote we'll see if mariner fans get out the vote but it's probably going to end up being ernie clement give voted guys yeah but it's probably going to be like ernie clement or some BS like that but oh yeah god yeah the whole country of canada is going to vote the entire blue jays roster into the all series yeah uh you know it feels like something maybe you know major league baseball
Starting point is 00:08:37 should uh should look into but uh you know what are you gonna do what are you gonna do but yeah cole young's been an all-star quality player this year which is more than you could have hoped for um and you know he's also had his own little dip where he started off really well and then he had a week or so where he wasn't looking all that good and and then he's just kind of grinding did through it and he stayed with it and now he's probably your best player at 22 years old. Obviously, he just had an incredible road trip. He had 500 in this in this road trip. And he continues to make really good plays defensively. Did have an air yesterday that may have changed the entire discourse on Logan Gilbert's outing.
Starting point is 00:09:14 I don't know if we're going to be able to talk about that today. But yeah, other than that, he's been rock solid in the field to plus and at the plate he's been incredible. I don't, I haven't looked at the updated numbers, but I assume is WRC. plus is at least close to the one 25 25 yeah yeah his slash line is 286 357 420 meme kings baby nice yeah so yeah uh cole young off to a fantastic start um this cannot say enough good things about him they've also won six with their last seven so yeah they really are the beam kicks Crazy.
Starting point is 00:10:01 But yeah, awesome, awesome game, awesome series, awesome road trip for Cole Young. You know, Julio had himself a hell of a game yesterday as well. You know, I posted the updated numbers after last night's game for him. The slugging is starting to come around, you know, thanks a large part to those three doubles yesterday. Only went one for five today. You know, wasn't particularly great game for the two, three, four, like he mentioned earlier. But, you know, nice to see, you know, Julio, you know, kind of cooking here in the first month. And the 234 overall really started to turn things around over the last, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:34 a couple of weeks. And that's been a huge part of this whole thing as well and then getting back to 500. It feels like today was like the first time in a little bit that you didn't get really anything from 2, three, four. Like even like, oh, Cal had a bad game yesterday. Oh, well, that's fine. Julio and Josh were great. Yeah. Yeah. And so this really does feel like the first time the three of them combined to be bad for, you know, a couple of, for, I don't know, probably the last week to two weeks where at least one of those guys wasn't very good or didn't have a very good day. Cal almost had a grand slam. Like, you got semi close to it and ended up being a sack fly.
Starting point is 00:11:12 So, you know, but just not a ton of production from them today, but they found a way to win. Thanks in large part to Cole Young. And I'll give you the sneaky, like, I know Anders likes to do Unsung Hero in his post-game shows. I'll tell you. I want to say it at the same time. I mean, I guess. We know how our timing is. Yeah, sure.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Sure. But three, two, one, Dominic Canso. No. Oh. Wrong. Cooper Chriswell. Unsung Hero. Three to two game. Bases loaded. Byron Bucksens up. Obviously, Brash
Starting point is 00:11:46 couldn't finish that. You don't have Brash. You've already used Bizarro. You know, they're not going to, God forbid, they ask Munoz to get four outs. If you even score more runs in the night to extend that game. So it's got to be Chris well. He's got to hang his zero there. So you have a chance to win that game and he does it.
Starting point is 00:12:01 So yeah, that was huge. Yeah, very good point. But yeah, Dominic Canzon as well. You know, obviously Cole is going to get a lot of the praise today. But Canzone, I mean, the, you know, game doesn't get tied without Canzones double down the line against Bradley there to extend Bradley's start and bring Young up to the plate to drive him in. And then, you know, Canzone in the ninth inning there has a hard hit single to move, you know, Randy over to third. and set up, you know, Cole Young's game winning single there. So, you know, Leo Revas eventually comes in,
Starting point is 00:12:31 pinch runs for Canzone, gets the second there that allows Young to not just tie the game, but take the lead there. So I thought it was a really nice day from Canzone, despite the two strikeouts from him. He had a couple of really, really big heads in this game. Strikeouts were bad. Canzone is Canzone.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Rayleigh is Rayleigh. He's on the downslider. It's kind of the full Dom Canzone experience today, actually. Yeah. I mean, and we're kind of seeing the month of April was like the full Luke Rayleigh experience there because he was great for two weeks. And now he's been bad for two weeks. And it's just kind of the ups and downs you have to live with. One other guy I thought had a pretty good game today.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I don't know if you have time in this segment. Go for it. Despite the obvious critical mistake made by J.P. Crawford, he also got on base four times, including a home run to make it a one-nothing game. Yeah. You know, real quick on the on the play. that was going to be a tough out to make. It's going to be tough throw even with Caratini running. That's not the problem, though.
Starting point is 00:13:33 But he's got to find a way to keep that ball in the infield there. You got to tackle that baseball. And honestly, it's not a particularly difficult ball to get to. Yeah. That showed the range issues. Right. Any shortstop, any mediocre shortstop in Major League Baseball gets to that ball and at least keeps it on the infield.
Starting point is 00:13:52 JP's just not that. However, again, this. is part of what you live with that because he's going to get on base. Yeah, he's going to get on base four times and he's going to hit a home run and you know how important he is in your clubhouse and all that. You know, how big he comes up in those big spots. You know, nobody else on this team, you want up with the base is loaded in a big situation than JP Crawford.
Starting point is 00:14:12 So that's the tradeoff. And no, Colt Emerson is not the answer, not yet. He's not ready all of a sudden just because JP didn't make one play that he needed to. But JP had a good game at the plate and, you know, the defense is what it is. and you're just going to have to live with it for another 129 games. And the tradeoff at the end of the year, it will be worth it. All right. So let's dive into the pitching a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Let's talk about George Kirby. We'll also try and talk a little bit about Logan Gilbert's start last night if we have some time in just a moment. Starting point is 00:17:22 Tap the link in the description or go to Lockdown Mariner's. not supercast.com to learn more. I thought George Kirby was really good today. But his final stat line will more so look like, it was a solid day. But it really does not tell the full story. So he gave up eight hits in this game and five and two thirds. Not a single one of those hits registered in exit velocity of 95 miles per hour,
Starting point is 00:17:48 which is the threshold to consider a ball hard hit. For those I don't know. Now, he did give up two hard. hit balls in this game, but both of them were outs. Eight hits. None of them hard hit. The closest was a 94.4 mile per hour single, I think. So they got close, but yeah, it was all weak to middle in contact from the Twins.
Starting point is 00:18:15 That was their whole offensive output against George Kirby, even the Brooks Lee to run single. This is really frustrating. Now, obviously, he had some issues putting guys away, you know, and that blew in the pitch count a little bit. That's, you know, why he had ultimately why he had to leave this game after five and two thirds. Again, I thought he was really good. Five strikeouts, a couple walks. You know, again, like I said, the only just two hard hit balls in this one. None of them go for hits.
Starting point is 00:18:44 I really liked what we saw from George Kirby today. Yeah. You know, again, just got nickel and. dined, you know, thousand paper cuts, whatever your phrase you want to use. But yeah, he just got incredibly bad Babbitt luck overall. And yeah, he did have a couple opportunities to get, you know, deeper in this game. He had a bunch of won two counts. And I think at one point he had four or five of those in a row.
Starting point is 00:19:12 And then the hitter ended up seeing like three or four or five extra pitches after that. And that's, you know, that that's the Logan Gilbert path. We don't want to see another starter go down there. But, you know, he was able to make up for that because he's getting a ton of ground balls right now, just an elite number of ground balls. And the next inning after he had kind of a long inning, he threw six pitches to get three out. So he was right back on track as well. And, you know, again, the kind of continued growth from George Kirby, last year we, we are really his entire career.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Things kind of don't go his way. He kind of gets a little unlucky here, a little bloop single here. Maybe he's mad at himself because he walked a guy here. And he just starts piping these fastballs down the middle. and he's trying to throw 120 miles an hour to get guys out, and he doesn't trust his defense. And no, he stayed calm, you know, at least outwardly calm. And he was able to kind of manage his way through those situations.
Starting point is 00:20:07 And again, the two runs he gives up, come on a little bloop single change up, a really good change up off the end of the bat of Brooksley. That dumped in front of Rayleigh. And then obviously there was the blooper in front of Cal or in front of Julio. There was a soft line drive in front of Julio. in that inning. There was the walk. And so those things, you know, it kind of looks like it's starting to snowball on him.
Starting point is 00:20:27 And nope, he hangs tight. And so, yeah, it was a, it was a really nice outing from George. Pretty different outing, though. I mean, only, only a 14% forcing fastball. Yeah, she threw a sweeper more than any pitch today. You know, the sweeper, by the way,
Starting point is 00:20:49 according to this he hadn't thrown one this year now they were classified as sliders before i believe so you know the whole sweeper slider thing right who's to say um sometimes it gets miscategorized but every single one of them got categorized as a sweeper today according to stat cast and he threw that pitch almost 30% of the time and then the two seamer he's still fastball heavy but it was the two seamer uh in this one uh that he threw a ton and then he flashed the change up He doubled up on the changeup usage, and that's something that Logan did last night as well. And I thought both of those pitches looked pretty darn good from both guys. So, yeah, it was kind of a different looking, George, and this one, only 11 whiffs, 22%.
Starting point is 00:21:33 That's not great by any stretch. But he did have a 57% whiff rate on that changeup and a 29% whiff rate on that sweeper and a 39% called strike plus whiff on that sweeper. So that'll play, as they say. It was also 19 of 25 in first pitch strike. strikes as well. So yeah, I thought George was really solid today. And opportunity to go six or, you know, seven innings in that, in that outing were, uh, were there. Uh, there's just a few, you know, a few at-bats that kind of got away from them a little bit, had to throw a couple extra pitches. Uh, and then just a couple of blue singles that had no business being hits,
Starting point is 00:22:11 just continue to kind of stack on top of the pitch count. So almost gets through six. And with the Mariners bullpen in a pretty good shape, uh, thanks. in large part to Alex Hoppe and Cole Wilcox taking the, you know, taking the heat on Monday night. That was more than enough for this Samarrenas Bolpin who had another pretty darn good day, all things considered. So we haven't had the chance to talk about last night. You know, I talked a little bit about what what Julio did last night. But I want to talk quickly about Logan Gilbert. Only goes five again.
Starting point is 00:22:44 But like I said in my reaction video last night that maybe some of you saw. I thought he looked better than he typically does in a lot of these five inning outings that we've seen from him as of late. It gives up just a one run on the solo home run by Buxton. Six hits, four strikeouts, one walk. You mentioned the botched double play and how that kind of helps balloon his pitch count a little bit there. You know, how to dance around some trouble for a couple innings. but again, I thought Logan,
Starting point is 00:23:19 again, despite not being able to get deep into this one, I thought he actually looked pretty solid. Yeah, I do think that botched double play. I mean, at the very least, you get one out out of that. But, you know, having to get two extra outs, at least probably that Josh Bell that hit into it? Yeah, I think so. I think you're probably turning that.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Yeah. So that, again, I didn't keep track afterwards. And it's hard to know because maybe you don't get to, two, blah, blah, blah, blah. But probably added 15 pitches. I believe there was nobody out at the time of that play, too. So probably added 15 pitches to his pitch count, which unfortunately means you can't get that sixth inning. But I honestly, I never really felt like Logan was laboring to get through five.
Starting point is 00:24:06 It just kind of felt like some bad things happened to him that he had to kind of manage. And that's why he was only able to go through five. Actually, how Logan looked pretty good as well. and kind of the big change or the big difference maker, really, I thought was the change up. He threw the change up more than he threw the splitter yesterday. And that's kind of the splitter is kind of his go-to strikeout pitch. But we know he can't really throw that for a strike. Like he needs to get a chase on the splitter for that pitch to be effective.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Well, the change up, you know, in last night's game, he got, you know, 40% whiff rate on it. And most importantly, he got three called strikes on that. pitch. He had zero called strikes on the splitter, and he only had one whiff on it. So if he can throw two separate off speed pitches, two distinct different pitches, the change up and the spliter that play off of his fastball, and he can throw one of them in the zone consistently, then the splitter should actually play up even more because now you have to protect against that pitch. I thought the change had a really good movement to it as well. So I think that could be a legitimate game changer for Logan and could help him get deeper into games because it is an off speed pitch that
Starting point is 00:25:14 he can throw for a strike. The splitter, he has to get a chase. So the change up he could put down, he could put in the zone and get a ground ball or, you know, get a called strike out of it. And then also the slider was very good last night as well, 38% whiff rate on the slider. And, you know, forcing fastball.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Logan's not getting the same fastball value he used to. Way back in the day, that's not anything new for Logan. So he really does need those off-speed pitches to play up because the fastball, he's not going to get a ton of value out of that. The fastball is mostly there to set up everything else that he has. So, you know, only one whiff on 13 swings on the four seamer last night. But, yeah, in general, I thought he was pretty darn good. And I think the change up in kind of the new looks slider,
Starting point is 00:26:02 it's kind of more of a gyro slider, it looks like. I think that those two pitches could really help him go deeper into games. So, yeah, he only got through five and he had to throw 93 pitches to get there. I feel like he was very well on pace to get through six, if not for that botched double play. And, you know, it is what it is. He only went five. So at the end of the day, the results are the same. But I actually thought Logan looked pretty darn good last night.
Starting point is 00:26:27 And I'm interested to see if he carries that change up more regularly into the starts now. And the splitter is kind of mostly there to try and get chases. And the change up is there to try and get strikes and quick outs. All right. Well, again, this win did come. at a cost for the Mariners. Matt Brash had to leave this one after throwing just a couple of pitches with side discomfort. We'll dive into that a little bit more in just a moment.
Starting point is 00:26:53 But first, a reminder of this episode of the Locktime Marys podcast is brought to you by Calci. Baseball season is here. And now you can trade every game on Calci. Starting point is 00:28:09 in the eighth inning for the Mariners. Matt Brash comes into the game. throws just two pitches and then has to leave. Cal calls out the train staff, calls out Dan Wilson. Dan and Matt have a very lengthy discussion, but the decision is ultimately made to pull Brash from the game. Through his first pitch and did one of these numbers, it was very clearly in some sort of discomfort.
Starting point is 00:28:35 We weren't sure what, but it's come out now from Dan after the game, that it was some side discomfort. Ryan Davis did say that Wilson didn't seem that concerned. Dan said it was a precautionary move. And Brash also spoke to the media and said that this is something that he's been dealing with for a little while. He felt it even last night when he pitched and he was fine. And he was trying to argue with Dan to stay in the game today.
Starting point is 00:29:09 But Dan just wasn't having it. So maybe a bullet dodged here for the Mariners, but when you hear side discomfort, you've got to worry about oblique stuff like that. So. Yeah. You know, this was only the second time Brash has pitched back-to-back games. Well, third time this year, but second time in this road trip, where he was asked to pitch back-to-back games. And so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Just kind of bad luck for Matt anytime he leaves.
Starting point is 00:29:41 a game, you're going to hold your breath. I mean, really any pitcher. But Matt, especially because of, you know, the previous Tommy John and because obviously he spends the baseball so much and he's got such a small frame and he's a pretty violent arm and all that. Like, yeah, I would still say this is relatively good news because it's nothing to do with the arm at least. Sure. I mean, not shoulder, not elbow. So that's good. Yeah. But obliques, not much better, but we're usually not talking about like, you know, they're out for part of next year. two with an oblique or anything like that. Whereas shoulder arm, that's shoulder elbow.
Starting point is 00:30:16 I mean, especially shoulder. That's career threatening anytime you hear the word shoulder. So, yeah, we'll see how it goes for them. I mean, this bullpen already needed another high leverage arm in it. Now they're probably going to lose their best one, second best one. The only reliever of baseball hasn't given up a run yet, Ty. That was put out there yesterday. actually so so there's two qualified relievers who have yet to give up a run uh you know mason miller give up a run finally
Starting point is 00:30:49 yeah uh want to take a guess at who the other guy is is it rico garcia nope it's a former mariner oh is it how recently fairly recent uh hean middleton no no he's in the miners brin davis homered off of him the other night actually oh yeah that's where i saw him okay yeah yeah um No, I'll give it away with this hint, but he got walked off in Houston a couple of years ago. Lefty. Oh. I think it was his first game on the roster. They had to use him.
Starting point is 00:31:29 I think they ran out of guys. I got walked off. Yeah. I don't know. If I sat here for like three or four minutes, I could probably piece it together in my head. Sure. We don't have that kind of time. It's Brennan, do you know.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Ah, okay. Yeah, he's the other guy on top of Brach who has, I was thinking of him as more of a red sock, but yeah. Qualified reliever who has yet to give up a neuron. Either way, they need another high leverage arm. It's going to be the number one on the priority list whenever we get around to the trade deadline, which might be tomorrow, because I don't know what we're going to talk about for 30 minutes tomorrow. We do have a couple of questions, though, in the Discord mailbag, which, by the way, Ty, I've been asked to bully you into putting a fresh Discord link in the description of this episode, because apparently the one you did yesterday didn't work either. But anyways. Really?
Starting point is 00:32:10 I put a new one in on on Monday. Okay. All right. Yeah. We'll fix it. Real quick, though, we will also be doing a, our first monthly flag player check-in. Thanks for letting me know. Let me know right now on the show.
Starting point is 00:32:31 Cool. Yeah. Now, we have, okay, to be fair, we have talked about the idea of that segment in the past. Yeah. And I'm pretty sure I said that sounds stupid. But, you know, you want to do it. Which is exactly why we're doing it. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Anyways, yeah, Brash, relatively good news, but anytime your pitcher comes out of a game, it's not great. And anytime we're talking about a side pain that's apparently lingered for a week or so, you know, it feels like they're probably going to end up putting them on the IL. Now, maybe it's that's what Daniel, that's what Daniel Kramer speculated. Well, he said an IL stint would be on the table. Especially given how early in the season it is. If this is something that you can take care of right now, then you probably want to do it. But yeah, not a great time to lose brash.
Starting point is 00:33:24 As we know, you're already pretty thin. Thankfully, Bizarro is throwing the ball better. Munoz looked incredible today. He's throwing the ball a little bit better as well. And so, yeah, you probably survive it for two weeks. If you can't survive one reliever missing two weeks, you had bigger problems than that reliever to begin with. But yeah, it's still not great.
Starting point is 00:33:43 And it still is a little bit scary anytime a pitcher leaves the field because of an injury. So we'll see what happens. I'm sure they'll do an MRI when they get back into town tomorrow. And I'm sure we'll have an update on Friday when Justin Hollander meets with the media before the homestand and all that. But yeah, you've already, you know, you've already had to go one rung or, well, two rungs down in your, in your depth chart in the bullpen already this year. So you have to go a third rung down. I would have, to be clear, I haven't checked the,
Starting point is 00:34:16 the numbers of the Tacoma relievers, because why would I? But I would assume Zulueta is probably the guy that they would go to, if they needed to make a roster move. He's already on the 40, man. Unfortunately, Brash is a pitcher, so that means he has a 15-day I-L stint instead of a 10-day I-L stint, which they should change for a reliever, if you ask me, but it is what it is. and we'll see what they decided to do with Brash.
Starting point is 00:34:41 But yeah, relatively good news for now about a pitcher who left, had to leave the game after two pitches today. So you'll take it. And if it only ends up being a two-week I-L stent and he's fine after that, then that's a good trade-off. Yeah, for sure. Again, you know, when you see Brash having to talk to trainers and you don't know exactly what's going on,
Starting point is 00:35:01 and for me, my experience with this was I didn't see his first two pitches. I was doing something and I walked back in the room, had the game on my computer here and I see I'm talking to Dan and the trainers and I'm going like please don't be the elbow please don't be the shoulder please don't have anything to do with his arm he was kind of doing this whole thing and I was like oh that shoulder that shoulder please be the neck that that's not a send you here very often don't hurt the neck hurt the shoulder hurt the neck but yeah no it's relatively good news but still it's it stinks and and you know again they want to put them on the IL
Starting point is 00:35:38 I kind of have to trust them and hope that a short stint fixes it. I think you'd probably rather do that than have this thing where it's like, oh, well, he's only available every other day for the rest of the season type of thing. So we'll see what happens. But yeah, I guess all things considered OK news coming from the injury front. All right. Well, that is going to do it for our show. Thank you so much for joining us here on the lockdown airs podcast.
