Jeff Passon says the best trade fit for the Mariners this summer is Tiger's Ace Terek Scoobal.
All right.
Let's talk about it.
Colby, hit it.
You are Locked-on Mariners.
Your daily Seattle Mariners podcast.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
Ahoy, Sailors, it is Thursday, June 4, 2026.
My name is Tadangazis, and I'm joined as always by my co-cove Colby Patnode.
On today's show, we'll do our monthly flag player.
update. We're also going to give you our list of our top five hitting trade targets for the
Mariners. But speaking of trades, we're going to start with an article that Jeff passed and published
today on ESPN.com, which will have linked in the description of this episode. So you can check it out
for yourself as well. Lots of really good information and speculation in there, especially with
regards to how the lockout, the impending lockout could potentially impact how things go down at the
trade deadline who is clearly going to be selling who is still on the fence and who the teams
who are clearly set to buy at the deadline could ultimately target and who the best fits are
for those teams including your Seattle Mariners and this might be the most interesting
excerpt from the entire article because Mr. Jeff Passon here has Terrick Scoobel.
as the best fit for the Mariners and in pro emphasis or Orioles reliever Rico Garcia.
But that's not attention grabbing.
That's not headline grabbing.
Derek Scouble, however, is absolutely headline grabbing here.
And Passon says, quote, hold on, the team with six good to great starting pitchers and
arguably the best right and left-handed pitching prospects in all of baseball and Ryan Sloan and
Kate Anderson should go and get another starter.
Yes.
even if it costs them one of those six starters already in the big leagues.
This doesn't make sense by now.
You haven't been listening.
School Bowl is the sort of player who can win a team a series,
and that includes the World Series,
something the Marys have spent half a century chasing fruitlessly.
So when the opportunity to get a player like that is ripe,
you get the player.
Strong words there from Mr. Passon.
And I agree with the overall sentiment.
the issue is not sure the mariner's do yeah it's pretty uh you know off the uh the beaten path that the mariners have laid out for themselves it's pretty antithetical to what they normally do which is all about sustainability and multiple bites at the apple and all that um so yeah to go out and give up like prime assets to get a rental player uh is already something that
I doubt that they would do.
And that doubt doubles when it's a starting pitcher,
regardless of how good that starting pitcher is,
clearly top two in baseball when he's healthy.
And right now he's not healthy, too.
So that's also a little bit of a factor here.
He's working his way back.
He should be back by the next couple of weeks, I would think.
But still, that is a lingering question.
And yeah, so it's just really hard to see the Mariners trading either Logan,
Gilbert, or George Kirby.
and I think it would have to be one of those two.
Like Luis Castillo, that's not going to get you scubel.
Maybe as a salary offset,
but then at that point you're probably going to still have to trade Sloan or Anderson.
And no, they're not going to trade Sloan and Anderson because they got six plus years of club control left on those two guys for now.
And, you know, obviously the CBA is, you know, a big elephant in the room here that you just kind of have to live with.
But that's not going to impact things enough.
where they're going to be like, yeah, we'll trade Brian Sloan or Kate Anderson.
No, no, no.
So, you know, and then obviously, you know, they're not going to try.
I don't think they would trade Miller or Wu either.
So I just, it would have to be Gilbert or Kirby.
At that point, there's the locker room dynamic, which I know maybe shouldn't matter as much, but it does.
We've discussed this in the past.
Mariners do care very much about their clubhouse.
And I would think that if you traded Logan Gilbert, who's probably the guy who makes the most sense in this regard.
if you traded him, Cal Raleigh wouldn't really appreciate that.
And, you know, that there's some issues there.
So, yeah, you're kind of in this weird spot where, like, I agree with Jeff.
And I've said so over the last couple of weeks, a couple of times that, you know,
the biggest impact move the Mariners could make.
The biggest move they can make to increase their odds to win the World Series would be,
would be to go out and get scoble.
I just, I, again, I just don't see the Mariners going down that path.
So while they should definitely at least look at it and pursue this opportunity, I don't think they will.
And that's kind of the downside here, just because it's so opposite of the path that they've laid out there.
So, you know, and I don't, you could say, well, what about a pure prospect package?
Again, they're not giving up Sloan.
They're not giving up Anderson.
They're not giving up Emerson.
And I know that it's a rental, but we're talking about like a rental, maybe the best.
best rental of all time.
So if this was just going to cost,
you know, Michael Oroyo,
Las Montez, Johnny Farmello,
then like maybe.
Do the Tigers view Felman-Selston
as a headliner? Are they in agreement
with like Keith Law and
they believe Felden is one of the 20
or so best prospects in the game?
Maybe, but.
Right. So you're not saying no, because maybe
they love Las. Maybe they love Felman. Maybe they
love Arroyo or one of those guys.
but yeah just it's hard to see uh you know that going down uh it'd be great if we were wrong
but uh i just i think there's somebody who's going to be willing to out bid you uh for for scubal
if you're not willing to trade either kirby or gilbert if you were willing to put one of
those two guys on the table i have a hard time imagining another team could be you uh but i don't
see that happening uh so it's kind of one of those things like jeff is right
but at the same time
is it even like
reasonable to suggest it
yeah probably because it's worth at least talking about
but it's just so unlikely that
I wouldn't be to get too excited about it
if you're a mariner fan
no and as far as the Logan Gilbert
of it all goes
there are a lot of complications
with that not just in the clubhouse
but also do the Tigers even want
Logan Gilbert who
who is just not the same guy who he was 40 years so starts ago.
Right?
We've talked about this.
We've talked about all the issues.
You know,
that's well documented here on this show.
And so you only get him for a year and a half.
And obviously the tigers aren't and shouldn't value the potential of an extension
and the cost.
They're not going to.
They weren't willing to extend scoble.
They're not going to be willing to extend Logan Gilbert.
So while Gilbert would help them, you know,
from a retooling standpoint and giving them, you know, at least at the very least a mid-rotation
starter for 2027. But at that point also, it's like how many starts am I getting him
for because of the lockout? Are we going to lose games? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, that whole
conversation as well. And then you're likely going to have to add on top of Logan Gilbert.
What's the plus? Right. Right. Is it Felman-Selisthen-Selisthen and Michael Oroyo? Is it
Felden Seleson and Las Montas, you know, like...
Right.
I think George Kirby is probably the guy.
A, the Mariners don't seem...
I mean, we don't know.
But, like, my gut feel is that the Mariners don't seem too terribly interested
in having extension talks with him,
and he doesn't seem too terribly interested in being extended by the Mariners.
So you're going to lose him at some point,
which means you're going to trade him at some point.
You're not going to let Logan Gilbert and George Kirby walk out
the door, like without getting something for at least one of them.
And so you're going to trade him at some point.
He's got two years, two full seasons of club control after this year.
So that is, you know, less that you have to give up from the Tigers.
And maybe because of that extra year of club control, maybe you get something back from the
tigers too in addition to school.
Maybe it's, it's, you get Kirby for and, you know, I don't know.
Michael Royale, right?
You give up those two assets and you get like Will Best and Terrick School or something like
that, you know.
or you get like a platoon battle like Matt Vierlin
who we might talk about it a little bit
sure or maybe both or maybe you get like
you know a decent prospect
in return
but yeah I think Kirby is more likely than
than Logan but again the idea that like
hey look they're going to trade one of these starters
at some point
why not trade them for you know
because they're going to want to make room for
Anderson and Sloan
Anderson probably as soon as opening day
next year
and they just can't do that by trading
Luis Castillo. Again, if you could trade Luis Castillo
and the only prospects that it would cost you to get Scoubel
would be like Arroyo and Feldman or Laz and
Felt whatever, then fine. We can have that conversation.
I don't think that's going to be the case.
Yeah. Again, it would just be such a departure
from everything that we know about how this front office
operates and what they ultimately value.
Yeah. Because Scouble is going to leave in free age.
the mayors are not going to keep
Teres School Bowl for 2027
and beyond. That is not going to happen.
And so you would have to
make peace with moving on from multiple
years of club control of either
established big league talent
or top
in elite prospect
talent. Now as far
as the Logan Gilbert of it all goes,
I'm fine with it.
Honestly, I kind of liken that situation
to a trade
that was made in basketball when the Raptors
traded for Kauai Leonard and they traded
Demar de Rosen who is a franchise legend
and his best friends with the captain
of the team, Kyle Lowry, but
they took that
shot. They traded a
really good player for a
great player for an elite player.
And it worked out for them. They won a championship
with Kauai and then he left
and he went to the Clippers.
That's just something that you kind of have to make peace
with. But I think the Mariners are in a position
right now where, especially
because they have Sloan and because they
have Anderson, even if this did backfire, like let's say they trade for Schuble,
they trade George Curry for for Terek Scoobel, right?
And Scobel makes one start in the ALDS and the mayor is going to eliminated in the
ALDS.
They lose the school start, right?
Which the Tigers lost two of them to the Mariners last year, right?
Certainly possible.
But I think the mayors can withstand that because of the state of their organization.
I think if you are going to divert from what your strategy has been and what you're
overall philosophy has been, now is the time.
And Scooble is the guy.
Yeah. And we'll have plenty of time to talk about this.
And this certainly will not be far from the last time that we talk about Terrick Scoobel and the Mariners leading up to the deadline.
But I would just say this.
Well, I think the Mariners could get to a World Series with their rotation as is.
I think they really, really could use a guy like Scoobel who other teams have to game plan an entire series around.
especially if you're going to have to go up against the Yankees of the world and have to face Garrett Cole and Cam Schlitler and Max Fried.
Right?
Because, yeah, Brian Wu could go blow for blow with any of those guys.
Logan Gilbert, even in his current state, sure.
Yeah, he could go blow for blow with any of those guys.
George Kirby, etc.
However, because of what this offense is, especially their struggles against lefties, like, you know, let's say you're going up against Max Fried.
Derek School gives you the best chance to win a game one to nothing or two.
to one.
Which tends to happen a lot in the playoffs.
Playoff games are typically low scoring.
All right. Well, let's stick with the trades here, Colby.
Let's talk about some hitters that we have our eyes on at the trade deadline in just a moment.
But first a reminder of this episode of the Locktime Airs podcast is brought to you by Indeed.

about Terrick Schoolville because I'm sure people on the comments are going to bring it up and you
kind of touched on this in the first segment as well, Colby. There's the elbow situation with school.
That's obviously going to give the mirrors even more pause, even if they're actually going to
explore this thing to begin with. So yeah, just a lot of complications going on with the whole
school bowl thing. And again, like I said, we'll talk about it plenty more over the course of the
next few weeks leading up to the deadline. Now also in Passon's article,
he mentioned, and like I mentioned earlier,
he mentioned some of the teams that he believes
are going to be sellers at the deadline.
He calls them the unloaders, quote unquote.
And in that category,
the Tigers,
the Rockies, the Royals, the Angels, the Giants,
and the Marlins. That's at six teams.
And there's also a tweeners category.
The teams that he feels are just kind of like on the fence right now.
He's not really sure if they're going to be buyers or sellers
or just stand pat.
the Cardinals, Red Sox, Mets, Orioles, Nationals, Twins, and Astros are all in that category as well.
And then everyone from that point forward is essentially considered to be a buyer or at least a fringe buyer.
So yeah, there's not a lot of teams that are potentially selling or clearly going to be selling.
Now, obviously, there's still a lot of time here before the trade deadline.
Yeah, it's June 4th.
And the deadline is a little bit later than usual this year.
I think it's August 2nd.
Yeah.
August 1st.
Yeah, it's a little bit later than it usually happens.
So, yeah, plenty of time for teams to pick a lane.
And, you know, right now in the American League, especially,
there's a lot of teams that are bunched up and a lot of teams that, like,
the Tertia deadline was next week, probably not going to do anything because even if the
writing is on the wall with them, they're like clearly overachieving or what have you,
they might be diluted enough into thinking that they can stink into a wild card
and get that sweet, sweet postseason revenue.
This is all to say that, yeah, whatever happens over the next few weeks,
I don't expect there to be many true sellers.
And I think the market for bats specifically is going to be slim at best.
And for the mayor specifically, unless there is a left-handed hitter who can hit lefties well,
don't think they're going to add another left-handed hitter
with how left-handed heavy they already are
and then obviously there's the Rayleigh and Canzone of it all
and all that. So that limits the market
potentially for the Mariners even more.
And so as we get into this top five
hitting trade target list, Colby,
I only have right-handed hitters
on my list.
And only three of them,
because I have a longer list that have condensed down to five
and I went over my longer list on CTZ earlier this week.
So some of you have probably already listened or have probably already heard it.
But the longer list consists of a lot of platoon bats and only three through every day right-handed hitters.
So yeah.
Yeah.
So just a little too foggy right now to know for sure which hitters are going to be available.
Yeah.
So all right.
Let's get into this list here.
Who's your number five?
Yeah, no, number five is, is a name very familiar to Mariner fans, is Joe Adele of the Angels now.
He's an angel, so that more or less eliminates him as a possibility because the Angels are stupid enough to not deal with one of the best farm systems in baseball as they go through their annual sell-off, just because of hatred, I guess, of the last guy to get them to the playoffs, the last guy to have them relevant in any way, shape, or form.
Yeah, got to hate that guy.
But, yeah, Adele, again, not a very good defender, but he has tremendous power.
We know plays the T-Mobile Park.
And he is just a right-handed bat that you stick probably hitting sixth for you right now.
And he is a massive upgrade over Ref Snyder, who isn't, even though he's struggling a little bit.
Now, is he an upgrade over Victor Robles?
Offensively, maybe.
Defensively?
No, no, no, no.
Robles is a much better defender.
Adel can only play defense against the Mariners.
and only for one game a year.
So sure, why not?
But yeah, Adel's on here just because, again,
there's not a ton of options, specifically right-handed hitters.
But I think Adele's got a year and a half left.
I think he will be available to some degree.
Will he be available to the Mariners?
Again, I don't know.
It's the Angels.
They're stupid.
Probably not, but he should be.
But I would assume the Mariners would at least check in on that possibility.
Maybe also Jorge Saler comes into play here.
but he's even more limited defensively than Adele is.
So we'll see.
I'm not going to sit here and pretend the Mariners care about defense all of a sudden.
So I'm not going to leave Joe Adel off my list because he's a bad defender because exhibit A.
But, yeah, Adele, again, not the most exciting player, but he's got some power.
He's a threat against left-handed pitching in particular.
Can handle his own against Diorides as well.
And again, this year, not great.
Last year, pretty darn good, at least in terms of,
production in terms of value but useful player yeah there's also hoary saler oswald parraza down at anaheim
but of course the marrises and angels haven't made a trade in the jury depota era so yeah uh all right
well my number five is a right-handed hitting lefty masher from the boston red sox sound
familiar it worked out great the first time around so let's do it again and in addition to that he
also hasn't played this year.
And that would be,
yeah,
that would be Romie Gonzalez,
who is currently recovering from a shoulder thing.
I think he's going to be going out on a rehab assignment pretty soon.
I feel like this is kind of like one of those surprise trades that would just kind of come out of nowhere.
He's a name that like no one's really thinking of.
You know,
and the mayor has kind of tend to to do that here and there.
Casalee,
Matthew Boyd,
Justin Turner,
you know,
a couple of years ago.
Those names just kind of like came out of left field.
And just no one was really talking about him.
I feel like Rummy Gonzalez is another one of those guys.
Gonzalez is under club control through 2028.
And last year, he just destroyed left hand at pitching.
But so did Rob Ruff Snyder.
So who knows.
But yeah, Gonzalez slash 331, 378, 600 against lefties.
That's a 162 WRC plus.
He was also playable against Redis,
286, 318,
400.
The average and the slugging percentage are more than fine.
The on-base percentage you would like to see up a little bit there.
But that's a 95 WRC Plus against Redis.
So you can actually use them against Redis,
which,
I mean,
that's a big difference between him and even Rough Snyder when he was really cooking.
And,
you know,
Gonzalez can play some first base,
which apparently that's a very important thing to the mayor is,
having a backup,
like a true backup first baseman on the roster.
He's also played some seconds,
some third.
all that so yeah now he would probably cost a little bit I'm not sure exactly who maybe like a mason peters type or something like that because he is under club control for a couple of years and he does have versatility and again he's destroyed left-handed pitching and is still usable against righties so in a way I think the the red sox would be justified and selling him as essentially a club-controlled everyday player so there is a cap on what I'd be willing to spend on
on Gonzalez, especially with him coming off of the injury.
But I do like the fit there.
Yep.
I think that makes a lot of sense.
I think you would probably not the Red Sox a pretty good prospect.
You know, maybe not a top 10 mariner prospect, but probably, you know, like a top 10 prospect in a good amount of systems.
And maybe even some bulk or maybe even like a major league reliever or something like that.
So, yeah, he wouldn't be cheap, but I do think he would be affordable.
if that makes sense.
Yeah.
All right.
So I think now we're going to get into where you and I are going to have a lot of overlap.
We might have overlap for the next four guys, really.
At least that's my expectation.
But yeah, who's your number four?
My number four is Taylor Ward.
Yeah.
He's my number four as well.
Yeah.
I think the Mariners have liked this guy for a little bit of time, but he was an angel.
And obviously the Angels don't trade with the Mariners.
So that makes things pretty complicated.
but yeah it's very Mitch Hanager-esque the defense is okay but not great you stick him in a corner
he's a right-handed bat on-base percentages off the charts this year 400 right now yeah but he's not
slugging really at all he started off pretty hot in terms of the slugging he led the American
League in doubles for you know I think the month of April or pretty close to the entire month of
April but really he hasn't hit home runs he's the doubles that really
dried up. But yeah, he is typically speaking more of a, you know, low 300s, high 400s slug guy,
very much like a Mitch Hanager type. But, you know, is kind of flip-flop that this year,
whatever. Again, he's a solid player, though, all around solid player. He's going to be a rental.
He'll be pretty cheap relative to, you know, his production. I do think the cost here is roughly
the Josh Naylor trade package, give or take. Because he's a corner outfielder. He's not a,
He doesn't play a premium position like third base like Gino.
But yeah, sure.
I mean, if it costs Gino, was there really a big difference in the cost between Gino and,
and Josh at the end of the day?
Not really.
I think it would cost something similar to acquire Taylor Ward.
Yeah, I think the Nailor Comp especially is right on the money there in terms of the cost.
Coming in a number three for me is Isak Paredes.
We've talked about him quite a bit.
You've talked about him especially quite a bit.
Just hitting 238, 332, 388 this year.
It's just a 106 WRC plus, but he is under club control through 2027.
It is a club option with a little bit of money attached to it.
He's been worth a win so far this year, not just striking out much, 16.2%, 9.4% walk rate,
seven homers.
There's obviously questions about how the bat will play at T-Mobile Park.
I think during the summer, though, it'll play fine.
And he's a guy that can move around the diamond a little bit, play some third.
play some second, play some first, and again, gives you a right-handed presence in the lineup with
some pop that they could use. Yeah, certainly some on-base percentage skills, too. And like you said,
he just doesn't strike out. So even if the power isn't what you need it to be, honestly,
not too dissimilar from Josh Naylor, that idea that you had last summer. Again, is the power
going to be elite? No, but it really hasn't been. You know, Paredes was the guy who's supposed to go to
Houston and just destroy, you know, hit 35, 40 home runs because he's built for that ballpark.
And he just really hasn't.
He just kind of seems like he's a 20 homer guy no matter where he plays.
But I'm actually more interested in Paredes for the average, which is usually higher than it is right now and the on base skills and the versatility.
I mean, you don't want him playing shortstop.
Ideally, he doesn't play much second, but he can handle second base.
He can handle third base.
He can play first base and obviously you still have DHA bats to give as well.
So he's the guy, again, just a lot of versatility on the Mariners bench.
That's how you want it.
When Brennan Donovan comes back, when you have Isok Peritas.
Colt Emerson and Cole Young can move around the infield as well.
JP might be learning third base.
I mean, you want that versatility.
It really comes in handy, especially in the postseason,
when you might have to make early changes to your lineup to try and play matchup.
You want guys that can move around so you have as many options as possible.
I know Peritas isn't an ideal fit for Team Mobile Park.
I don't really care because I don't care about the problem with Paritas,
which would be he would lose some home runs playing at Team Mobile.
because I want the batting average, because I want the on base,
and because I want some of that defensive versatility,
where he's a pretty good defender, pretty solid defender throughout his career,
pretty much wherever you put them.
Just kind of an underrated player.
And again, you get them for a year and a half.
And you might have a big opening at third base next year.
So you can kind of kill two birds with one stone if you get Paredes.
And the Mariners and the Astros have proven they will trade with each other,
even when both are contenders.
So we don't know if the Astros are going to be contenders.
But if they are or they aren't,
the Mariners and the Astros will make trades with each other.
They're not afraid to do it.
So is your number two a certain header from the Boston Red Sox?
Another hitter from the Boston Red Sox?
No, that's my number one.
Okay.
My number two was Paredes.
Oh, your number two is Parades.
So your number three is Austin Martin.
Awesome Martin, yeah.
That's my number one actually on my list.
Where'd you get that idea, Ty?
Yes, because you're the only one that can think of a train targets.
Right, right.
Are you going to put me in a show cold for that?
I just, I don't know.
I just,
I feel like maybe I should get some credit for that.
Yeah,
but Austin Martin's a really good fit.
He's a very good athlete.
He crush his left-handed pitching.
He's playable against Ritees.
And he,
again,
he can play all three outfield spots.
He can play a little bit of infield too.
Essentially,
he's Dylan Moore,
minus the strikeouts.
And he's got a bunch of years of club control left.
So he might be a little bit,
a little bit pricier on,
on that end.
But again,
you're looking for a multi-positional guy
who plays pretty much every day,
against left-handed pitching can also play against right-ease if you need him to.
It does a little bit of everything well.
I just really like the fit.
I think he's exactly what the team needs on their bench,
and this team needs massive bench upgrades.
Don't say it's the bench, it doesn't matter.
When Leo Rivas played for the entire first month,
that should have been your clue that the bench really matters
and the mayors need to pay attention to it.
And Austin Martin would certainly be an upgrade over anybody who's on the bench right now.
And he could get some valuable.
I mean, you may not care about this now,
when you're facing Max Reed in the divisional round,
you're going to want somebody like Austin Martin in there
instead of somebody like,
you know,
Rob Ruff Snyder or,
you know,
maybe Cole Young,
you probably don't want Cole Young facing Max Reed in the playoffs.
But yeah,
yeah,
so I like Austin Martin a lot.
Yeah,
so Martin to me,
why he's the number one,
he just makes so much sense.
He's not the caliber of player that Gino and Naylor were and are.
But it's that,
it's weird just,
it clicks like how
Naylor and Gino clicked last year
Martin makes
you're not taking plain time away from any one guy
to give him playing time you can spread it out
now I say that there is a caveat
to that to what I'm saying though
I would like to see him play some second base
again where the Mariners if they did acquire him
not to
necessarily platoon with Cole Young but to have that option
because Cole while he's had some big time hits against
the lefties against lefties you know the walk off a couple days ago was against the lefties
he's uh he's got a 75 w rc plus against lefties yeah awesome martin uh here let me let me bring it up
real quick awesome martin right now against lefties 159 wrc plus now he's really struggling against
righties 567 wric plus and so while he has okay against them yeah and so while he has a lot of club
control he is kind of a weak side platoon bat so that should lower the cost a bit i think
think really more my concern about the mayor's ability to landmarten is just do the twins think that
you know do they are they one of those teams that I talked about earlier that are diluted enough
into thinking they could seek into a wild card and get postseason revenue and all that
they weren't even diluted enough to think they could win a bad American League
Central so I doubt it number one on my list I assume number two on yours as William
Contreras or sorry Wilson Contreras yes
of the Red Sox.
He's the DH first baseman.
He's an elite defensive first baseman, which may actually kind of be important for the Mariners, just saying.
But he's a DH.
That's primarily where he's going to hit.
He hits right.
He's in left east.
He checks all the data points that the Mariners love from their hitters.
It's one of the best hitters in baseball that doesn't get talked about.
Maybe the most underrated hitter in all baseball.
I believe you get him for a year and a half and he has a club option, if I'm not mistaken.
So it could be two and a half.
Could be pricey.
Could be very pricey because of that.
First base, D.H.
though, he's right-handed bat, probably the best right-handed bat who's likely to be on the market or could be on the market at the very least. Again, the Red Sox might not trade him because he's got multiple years of club control left. But if they do, and if they're open to it, the Mariners should be all in on this guy because he is exactly what this lineup needs. It could only be better if he could play like right field. You know, like that's the only way this could be better. And he actually has played some left field. You don't want him doing it anymore. But he's an ideal fit. He hits the ball very hard. He hits everywhere. He hits.
it's everyone doesn't strike out a ton.
Yeah, you know what?
He's got a little bit of, let's keep it PG and say fire that he plays with that,
you know, he's a bit of an instigator, which I think this club could also use.
So I just think Contreras is just the absolute perfect fit.
I mean, relative to the weak market, again, first base DH isn't, it doesn't fit clean
as clean as you would like, but who cares?
Oh, no, Dom can zones on my bench in a playoff series.
Oh, what a travis you'd have that guy, learned.
working on the bench late in games.
Yeah.
The only reason that Contreras is not number one on my list is because of the money involved
and because you would have to move some things around in order to make it work.
Just you would have to move your roster around a little bit.
Luis Castillo and Mason Peters.
Which like that's not like, look, I'll I'll figure it out because Wilson Contreras is awesome.
And he's, you know, hitting for, you know, basically a 150 WRC plus right now.
but there are some complications that come with Wilson
that come with Wilson Contrero so yeah so that's why he's he's not
number one of my list all right well that is our list now before we get out of
here we're going to give you our monthly update on our flag players
and spoiler alert I'm getting cooked
yeah it's it's bad surprise
we'll go over how much I'm getting fried right now by Colby
just a moment. But first a reminder, this episode of the lockdown errors podcast is brought to you
by Calci. Baseball season is here and now you can trade every game on Calci. On Friday, Seattle is

trading against peers in a live market, meaning there's no house and has the probability changes
you can buy in and out of your position. For a limited time, download the Calci app and use the
promo code locked on. That's LOC, KED, O, C,
in to get $10 when you trade 10. K-A-L-S-H-I-K-K-S-H-I, Kalshi,
trade on anything.

All right it's June which means it's time for our monthly flag player update.
Flag players pick them right going to shine and take flight time covey got the game in their hands
picking the ones who'll take a stand
Will they're ones who'll stand tall
I think while that video was playing
Colby had a trident malfunction or something
You can't even really see it here
But I could see it in a little
Down
Is that
Is that a sign of
Is that a sign of something here potentially?
Yeah, certainly for me
So last time that we did this
sir may well be i was actually uh you know because we're only tracking the the f4 and b war totals
of the players that we picked as our flag players something that tie needed to track this year
decided to make this a competition right which i mean it was it was a competition last year was
a competition the year before that um yeah with actual tracking it wasn't but okay well
you know we we expand on ideas here at the lockdown marries podcast so last
Last month.
Some of us have a home runs to celebrate.
Yay.
Last month, I actually had the advantage in F4 by 0.1.
It was 1.9F4 to 1.8F4, but you had a large B-war advantage, 2.7 to 1.3.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you, guys.
Let's just get into.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
You know what?
You know what?
We don't need to talk about this.
Have a good one.
Have a beautiful baseball day.
we'll see you next time.
No.
So,
yeah,
so a reminder of who's on each other's list.
On my list is Randy Orozerana,
Brennan,
Donovan,
Colt Emerson,
Luis Cassio,
and Carlos Vargas,
who hasn't pitched yet.
And on Colby's team
is Cole Young,
Luke Rayleigh,
J.P. Crawford,
Bryce Miller,
and Jose A. Ferrer.
Oh, baby.
Do we really need to get into these numbers?
All right, fine.
here we might as well just say the numbers we can get out of here now i have randy but that's working out great
for me right now uh 1.9 a 4 and 2.3 b war so far for randy or rosarana very nice uh bernan donovan
hasn't played so he is still at 0.6 out 4 and uh is at 0.6 b war yeah yeah solid col evison
made half a season.
Yeah.
Cole Emerson has finally made his debut to save my flag list.
And he's got half a win in both F-4 and B-war.
So.
And only like two weeks?
Pretty good.
And then we get to Luis Castillo.
0.6.4.
Okay.
Not bad.
Um, yeah, Luis Cascio is worth negative 0.9B-War.
And, yeah, Carlos Vargas hasn't pitched yet.
so yeah so I'm at 3.6 F war which is double what I was at or almost double what I was at I was at 1.9 so I go up to 3.6 and then I went up from 1.3 B war to 2.5 B war.
I've always said B war is the superior war yeah I mean even if he was just zero I'd be at 3.4 B war which like you know not not
bad but nowhere near
where you are. Spoiler. Let's have it.
So Cole Young
only went up by 0.1.F4.
That's the last time we did this.
Rough month.
Yeah. Offensively. He's at
1 F4 flat.
2.2B war
though I think he was at, what was he at?
He was at 1.8. Last time we did this. So he got
0.4 of the loss or so.
Luke Raleigh.
Pretty large jump for him.
0.8 jump for him
in F4 from 0.3
to 1.1.
He's also at 0.9B. War.
Yep.
hashtag rally for Rayleigh.
JP Crawford is at a full win now in F-4.
jumps from 0.3 to 1 flat.
He's also at 0.8B. War.
Bryce Miller has finally made his season debut
since the last time we did this, and he is
worth half a win on fan graphs,
and 0.7B.
Pretty good.
And then, uh,
Jose Ferrer.
Daddy.
Daddy.
Yeah.
0.7.4.
0.9B.
Which gives Colby a total
of 4.3F4.
So you are
at a 0.7 lead now
an F4 over me.
And
you're up by three
full wins in B-War
at 5.5.
I mean...
I'm getting... I'm getting cooked.
I'm getting
cooked.
I just got it.
That's a daddy list right there.
Well,
a daddy list full of daddy players.
Clearly.
I mean, hey, at least you didn't curse anyone.
So,
you know, that's better than
the last couple of years where
both of our lists have essentially
cursed like eight of the ten guys
that we picked.
And, well, Carl Spargus hasn't thrown a pitch
and, you know.
Yeah.
Yeah, and Brennan Donovan's played half the season so far.
And Luis Castillo is like, is he a starter?
He's just kind of in this piggyback thing.
Now he's back in the rotation as a six-man rotation.
What's going to happen after they're, you know, past the stretch with the six-man
words?
I don't know.
I mean, listen, baseball reference, relax a little bit, okay?
Just chill out a little bit, please.
I mean, like, Louise, Louise hasn't been, you know, like overall.
Luis hasn't been good this year.
don't get me wrong almost a full negative wind
I don't know that's extreme numbers are the numbers
that is can you do extreme like just relax a little bit
okay you know give me a little zero you'd still be down by two wins
yeah yeah cold Emerson I need for you I need you uh you know hey
Murakami's out and he's out for a while
the rookie of the year is up for grabs.
No, it's time.
It's what are you going to do about it?
It's that Michael Irvin clip.
What are you going to do about it?
Yeah, sure.
Meanwhile, every gain you get from
every gain you get from
Colt Emerson coming back,
I get back just as much from Bryce Miller coming back.
By the way, it sounds like Fargus
might not pitch it all this year.
So, I mean, I guess, to be fair,
last year, he had a war of like zero also.
So, I kind of got like bullied into that.
by myself
because I was like I don't want
because Romero I was like I don't really want to take
Dom Canzone because I like
Which he broke out last year
I'm well and also I was like I don't really
Buy Dom Canzone as much as other people
And I mean that was true
Like it would be dishonest of me to say that I that I was
But that I was buying in on him like other people
But yeah I was wrong on that he's been great this year
Yeah I should have taken care
zone but so it goes yep sometimes you know daddies make the right decisions and sometimes dudes
make the wrong decisions and i think we know who is who in this equation yeah i'll wear that
i'll wear that it's been a rough one it's been a rough one for me who's your daddy that's gonna do
