Good morning, Mariners fans. Welcome to a new era of Locked-On Mariners, part of the Locked-on Podcast Network.
Keen observers will note, I am not Andy Patton. My name is D.C. Lundberg, and I will be your new host this year.
I want to thank Andy for covering the Mariners throughout the second half of last season.
It was a tough job, but someone had to do it.
Today is going to be a different kind of show. It may be on the shorter side, but now that I'm talking about that and taking time to explain it, maybe not.
I'm going to tell you about some of the things I've got planned for you this season,
and in the second half, I'll introduce myself so you can get to know me a little better.
Before I get into any of that, though, I'll remind you that you can get locked on Mariners
and all the other great locked on podcasts through Apple Podcasts, Google Podcast, Spotify, Stitcher Radio,
or your favorite podcasting app.
You can follow this program on Twitter at L.O. underscore Mariners,
and you can follow me on Twitter,
at DC underscore Lundberg.
That's L-U-N-D-B-E-R-G.
Anyways, I'm sure you're aware that the Mariners are in the middle of a rebuilding project.
Covering a team not expected to do that much or listening to a show covering such a team
may not be the most fun thing in the world.
But I like having fun, and I like the Mariners,
and I'm going to do my best to make this season fun and enjoyable for you.
In addition to covering Mariners games, news, analyzing
the teams talking about the developing prospects, we'll be playing some games on the air with some
special guests, and I've got some ideas for some segments where you out there can interact with me.
I'll talk more about those as the season progresses.
We've got a great show plan for you tomorrow evening.
Yes, an evening show for episode number two.
I'll be covering the Hall of Fame election results with first-time Hall of Fame voter and former executive editor of the Seattle Times,
Don Shelton. It's a foregone conclusion that a certain pinstriped shortstop will gain entry to the hall,
but there's one other player who's right at the cusp in his final year of eligibility.
We'll discuss those two players, some others on the ballot who may have a chance in future elections,
and we'll talk about who Mr. Shelton voted for. On Thursday, we're going to try something really different.
If you like baseball trivia, this will be your kind of show. We'll be having a trivia contest with some guests,
who you'll be hearing more of throughout the course of the season, which should be really fun.
We're basically going to stage a game show here.
And the winner will receive nothing, nothing but a hearty congratulations.
I also have a special show in the works planned for mid-February,
which I will speak more about as those plans solidify.
I won't say much right now, but I will say,
My, oh my, that should be a great show.
If you have a baseball question or a comment on this show, please email me at Locked-on Mariners at gmail.com.
I may read your question or comment on the air during my Friday mailbag segment.
We will not have one this week, since that would be rather silly in what effectively is this show's first week,
but maybe next week, if I get enough email, that is.
And honestly, feel free to ask me questions about anything.
It doesn't have to be Mariners-related, doesn't even have to be baseball-related.
I'll answer just about anything.
Just keep it appropriate.
This is a family show.
And please include your name and hometown in your email.
Coming up after the break, I'll do something that I'm really terrible at, talking about myself.
Locked on Mariners will return upon the conclusion of these vital words of importance.
Welcome back to Locked on Mariners, D.C. Lundberg back with you in this first episode in a new era for this program.
And now, as promised, time to get to know me.
a little bit better. I started following
the Mariners and baseball, pretty much
with the rest of the city, during the
1995 Pennet Chase.
I had always kind of played baseball, but
never really followed it until that time.
But when I started following it, man, I
really got into it. It was
also at that time that Calerupkin
Jr. broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive
game streak, and because of
that, I became a huge Cal Ripkin Jr. fan
and really grew up rooting for the Orioles
more than the Mariners.
After Cal Ripkin Jr. retired,
That was kind of my last reason to root for the Orioles.
I'm not much of a Peter Angelos fan.
So my allegiance switched to the Mariners,
and the timing was pretty much perfect,
because that was the brilliant and unforgettable 2001 season.
I've also been running fantasy baseball leagues since I was 16 years old.
Also, for the past eight seasons,
I had been involved in a podcast called Touchamall,
which covers all of baseball.
And for the last two and a half seasons,
I had been co-host and co-producer
along with Jason Hernandez, who you can hear right here on the Locked On podcast network
as the host of Locked on Anaheim Ducks.
I am a local kid.
I was born in Seattle.
I was raised in Shoreline.
I went to Shorecrest, which is the home of former Major League pitcher Glendon Rush.
The other high school in that district, Shorewood, is Blake Snell's alma mater.
So I think that they're one up on us, but I like Blake Snow, so we'll give it a pass.
Anyways, I live in Spokane now.
I moved over here at the end of 2018.
It is a wonderful place to live.
I really love it.
And away from baseball, I've had a few other careers,
mostly in customer service,
but my favorite job that I've ever had was as a preschool teacher's assistant.
I'm a huge music fan.
I love rock and roll.
I love that 80s heavy metal.
But I like a little bit of everything.
I even like Motown.
I like some duop every once in a while.
Not a huge fan of punk and just.
don't even get me started on grunge. No, thank you. I used to be a bowler until I blew out my
elbow a few years ago. I follow the PBA and the PWBA. I'm also a huge curling fan.
And that's pretty much it. If you have any other questions about me, you can email me and I might
use them in the email segment. One quick item before we wrap things up. If you listen to this show
