Today we'll give you our individual trade deadline plans.
Colby, hit it.
You are Locked on Mariners.
Your daily Seattle Mariners podcast.
Part of the Locked on podcast network, your team every day.
Ahoy, sailors, it is Friday, July 3rd, 2026.
My name is Tedding Azales, and I'm joined as always by my co-host, Colby Patnode.
This episode is brought to you by Fandul.
The biggest stage in world soccer is here.
Let there be goals on Fanduel.
Visit Fanduel.com to get started now.
And on today's show, it's a reverse fan fiction Friday.
We'll be giving you our first individual trade deadline plans.
Colby's made one.
I've made one.
We'll go over those a little later on.
But we got to start with some Bryce Miller talk.
Miller dominant again last night against the Angels.
Seven scoreless innings, eight strikeouts, no walks, no runs, two hits.
He had a no hitter going into the seventh inning.
And the two hits he wound up giving up were both incredibly cheap.
And now on the season, Miller is sitting at 52 and 23rd.
third's endings pitch with a 171ERA, a 277-5-5-Ks per 9, and an 085 walks per 9.
That is Cy Young-level production from Bryce Miller.
Now, will he actually enter the Cy Young conversation for real?
Likely not, given the late start to the season for him.
Now, if he sustains this over the course of the entire season, I think we kind of have to
have that conversation at that point.
But Colby, is there at least now an argument to be made here for Bryce Miller,
2026 All-Star?
Sure.
I think there should be.
Will he ultimately make the team?
I doubt it, and I think they'll tell you it's because he didn't pitch enough.
Like, he just, you know, it's a shame he got hurt.
Otherwise, maybe, but you do need to remember that, you know, the Major League Baseball
has had All-Stars who have thrown fewer innings than Bryce.
Paul Skeen's his rookie year, made the All-Star team.
He threw about the same number of vending as Bryce did before he made the team.
And obviously last year there was the big controversy about Jacob Mizorowski who made the All-Star team after what, five starts, five appearances.
And he bumped a pretty prominent starter, if I'm remembering correctly.
It might have been Sanchez.
But, you know, he got, there was a lot of controversy about that.
So the idea that Major League Baseball has some kind of, you know, strict adherence of what,
qualifies you to be on the all-star team as a joke.
I mean, Vladimir Garrow Jr. is going to start the all-star game.
He doesn't even deserve to be there, and he's going to start it.
So there are no standards for which to declare somebody an all-star.
So let's cut that off at the pass right now.
But, yeah, from a per inning basis, there aren't a lot of pitchers who have been better than
Bryce Miller, particularly in the American League.
And, you know, there's probably a pretty good chance we see Terrick Scoobble pitch in this
all-star game, and he hasn't been as good as Bryce Miller.
And he was also hurt and missed time in this season.
So, yeah, when you look at the numbers statistically, all the rate stats, not the, you know, not the bulk stats, like pure strikeouts.
Yeah, he's going to be lower on that list than others because he hasn't pitched as many innings.
But when you look at the per nines, when you look at the percentages, when you look at the ERA and all that, he's right up there amongst the best of them.
And so he's very much deserving of being an all-star if it's just about who is, you know, having the.
best year.
Bryce is having one of the, I don't know, 10 best seasons for a starter in, you know,
in the American League, certainly at least.
But ultimately, yeah, I do think unfortunately, it's very likely that the, well,
if you had started the year healthy and pitched like this, he definitely would have been
on the team.
But unfortunately, he didn't really get enough innings to blah, blah, blah.
And meanwhile, there will be somebody who makes the team with fewer innings than Bryce,
because that's just kind of the way things work.
And, you know, again, Mizorowski throws 105.
Like, okay, I get why that's, there's a lot of hype for him when he came up.
Skeens was the best pitching prospect since, you know, Strasper.
And there's just a ton of hype for him.
And obviously, you know, he's, I don't know if they're married or not, but like, his partner's a very famous person too.
And so, like, there's just a ton of, you know, cachet with those two names that Price just doesn't have.
And, you know, also Bryce has been around for a little bit.
And those two guys kind of, you know, popped onto the scene for a lot of people.
And so, yeah, we'll see how it goes.
I think it's highly unlikely he gets selected this year, which is a bummer because he certainly deserves to.
But really, I think any of the reasons that they'll use will just be elicited an eye roll from anybody who actually, you know, pays attention.
But, yeah, Bryce, unfortunately, I don't think he's going to make it.
Does he deserve to?
Yes, he does.
And maybe he's still, I wouldn't put the odds at zero because guys drop out all the time.
Remember, you pitch on Sunday, the last day of the All-Stra, you're not eligible to pitch in the All-Star game.
So there'll probably be a handful of guys who drop out now.
It only matters in the American League.
Like, obviously it doesn't matter of, you know, Christopher Sanchez pitches on Sunday.
Who cares?
Right.
Make that team.
I don't know who's going to pitch.
on that Sunday before.
I do know it won't be Bryce unless they
shuffle the rotation here early in this road trip,
which they're not going to do.
Yep.
So Bryce should be eligible to pitch
and he should be in Philadelphia on Monday and Tuesday.
And there is a slight chance that enough pitchers drop out
that he makes the team.
And maybe he does just make the team outright.
It's certainly not impossible.
But I would say the odds of that happening are like one in a thousand
and the odds that he gets added as a replacement for somebody.
I don't know, 5%.
Yeah.
At most so, I think it's very likely that even if there was a replacement and a Mariners pitcher was selected to replace said player,
it would probably be Gilbert or Hancock would probably get the nod over Bryce, which they shouldn't.
But I think it's probably the most likely path here.
So, yeah, unfortunately, the teams get announced on Sunday, I believe.
So we'll know during the game, they usually announce it.
I remember Kikuchi finding out he made the All-Star team on the Sunday game.
Is that also against the Blue Jays?
Like it might have been.
Anyways.
Yeah.
So we'll see.
But I would suspect that Bryce is going to be left off the initial roster.
And even after all the dropouts and all that and withdraws, I still think that Bryce will ultimately be snubbed at the end of the day.
Yeah.
Unfortunately, as we all know,
even going beyond the
fan vote the All-Star game is a popularity
contest and
Bryce just isn't this new
exciting thing like Polskins
was like Jacob Misirowski was
yeah so
I'd be fairly surprised if he made it
but I mean like what he's doing right now is just so
incredible so since he made his
season debut on May 13th
Bryce is
10th and F4
he is
third and ERA.
He is sixth and FIP.
He is
ninth in K's per nine
and he's second
and walks per nine.
And Miller, according to roster resource,
is scheduled to make his final start
before the all-star break
on Wednesday in Miami.
So he would be on normal rust
and seemingly available
to pitch in the all-star game
if they wanted to add him.
So put my guy in.
He deserves it.
All right.
it's time to unveil our first individual trade deadline plans.
We'll probably do this a couple times over the next few weeks leading up to the deadline.
But this is our first reverse fan fiction Friday.
We'll go over Colby's trade deadline plan in just a moment.
But first, a reminder, this episode of the Locktime Airs podcast is brought to you by Amazon.
A big thank you to our friends at Amazon for this limited break.
This back to school season, spit less on your kids with Amazon.
We all know how crazy the back to school shopping.
experience can be. It starts with a few items on the list and suddenly you're shopping for
supplies and clothes and launch gear and tech and about 10 other things you didn't see coming.
It adds up fast. Like when you buy clothes for back to school, then your kid has a gross
spurt two weeks later and you're right back where you start it. Sometimes it genuinely feels like
they're growing faster than your budget can keep up. Or when your kid's definition of need for
back to school shopping is a lot different than your definition of need. Somehow the list keeps getting
longer every time they look at it and explaining the need versus what kind of.
this time of year has just become an annual part of the process.
Or when the teacher's supply list arrives and somehow every item feels completely reasonable
on its own, but then you add everything together and realize just how much stuff one kid needs
for one school year.
So remember, with Amazon's low back-to-school prices, just spend less on your kids because
every dollar you don't spend on them is a dollar you haven't spent on them.
Shop back to school at Amazon and spend less on your kids.
And you're listening to the lack of the last.

All right.
It's time for a little reverse fan fiction Friday.
Typically on fan fiction Friday, we react to your trades and great.
them. Today we're going to give you some of our trade ideas. And so Colby and I have put together
individual trade deadline plans. We will call this 1.0 because I believe this is not going to be
the last time that we do this over the next month leading up to the trade deadline. Things are
obviously going to change. And right now. Exactly one month from today, by the way. Yeah. And right
now we are approaching this as if the Mariners are buying at the deadline pretty clearly. So
both of our trade deadline plans are strictly buying trade deadline plans. So
we're going to start with Colby's here in this segment and then in the next segment we'll get into my trade deadline plan.
So let's just kick things off here.
You have three trades, Colby.
Starting with the first one here.
Got a one for one swap with Colorado Rockies where the Mariners are sending Corbyn Dickerson to Colorado for Willie Castro, a favorite of yours.
Yeah.
And also a I think we know the Mariners have liked Willie Castro in the past.
So, you know, as we often say, Jerry Circles.
back, but Willie Castro, in this case, just makes so much sense.
He can play seven positions.
He's a true utility guy.
He's traditionally been better against left-handed pitching, but while still being
useful against right-handed pitching, he's got pop, he's got some speed, he's got
versatility.
He's a perfect pinch piece.
Just look at last night.
You know, you lost two center fielder's, and you have to put Luke Grayley out there,
and you were one bad injury away from, you know, having to put either
Randy on his bum hamstring
out in center field or or putting Weston
Wilson in center field.
And I guess putting
Naler in right field and putting
you know, like
I assume you forfeit the DH at that point.
Put Canzone out there. Probably but Canzones hamstring.
You're going to put Canzone's hamstring out there.
Like you're in a rough spot right now.
Now Donovan will help.
So,
I do think that
that, you know, there's a little bit of redundancy there, but you need a bench.
You want a powerful bench.
And the Maris have basically played this year without much of a bench.
Castro is not an everyday player, but you get him for a year and a half.
He can fill in at seven different positions.
So, you know what, if, you know, Colt Emerson sprains his ankle or whatever and he's going to miss six weeks,
okay, Castro can play third and we'll just move JP back to short or Castro can play short or whatever.
There's a lot of versatility here.
There's pop.
He hits very well at Team Mobile Park.
that's a nice bonus.
And again, he provides speed off the bench,
not a base stealer per se,
but he is athleticism off the bench,
something the Mariners do not have right now.
He's a clear upgrade over Victor Robles offensively.
And I think this is one of the hidden little areas of improvement.
The Mariners should be better on the bench.
Right now, their bench is a disaster.
And Castro fixes that,
or at the very least it gives you a good chance.
I know a lot of people remember Castro for his struggle with the Cubs,
but when you go look at the totality of his career,
he's a very solid player.
He's about a league average bat,
a little bit above league average.
He's good against lefties,
perfectly useful against Rides with pop,
speed, and versatility.
That is a very good bench piece to have.
And, you know,
if somebody gets hurt and has to miss three weeks in August,
you're going to be pretty happy that you have Willie Castro on the lineup every day
as opposed to Victor Robles or Connor Joe or Patrick Wisdom.
So I do think that this is a sneaky area of need.
And I do address the need for a right-handed bat later.
So this isn't my big addition.
This is my bench addition, so to speak,
but one who can play four or five times a week
and you're not going to feel worried about him or anything like that.
So Billy Castro is very high on my list.
Your next trade here is with the Mets.
Mairns received Luke Weaver or Michael O'Royo and Gregory P.O.
uh luke weaver you get him for a year and a half he is a high leverage reliever uh he is a guy who can
close if you want to move munoz around or he is the guy who is the the true fireman while you wait
for brash to recover and and he slides into that role and probably the eighth inning guy since dan
likes to use you know his bullpen like it's nineteen forty eight um but uh yeah weaver is a high
leverage arm he's on a team that is going to sell like we don't have really any concerns about the
Mets getting back into this thing.
He's making a little bit of money here.
Arroyo, I don't see much of a future in Seattle, to be honest, but Joe Doyle disagrees.
But if it was Felman, if they wanted Felman instead, I would do that.
That's fine.
You know, Arroyo is just kind of to me, like, the second half of the Mariners prospect tier list.
Like, he's near the top of the tier A.
Like, obviously, you're not trading Anderson or Sloan.
Right.
They're off limits.
So, you know, that next group, Farmello, if they wanted Farmello, fine.
Like, Oroyo just represents that group in my mind.
And then Pio is a lottery ticket who's four or five years away, who I like, but he's
four or five years away.
And I'm trying to win this year.
Weaver is a massive upgrade to the back end of my bullpen.
And if I do get Brash back, which I'm not counting on, which is why I'm going out and
getting Weaver, my bullpen all of a sudden has Munoz, Bizarro, Spire, Brash, Weaver.
and then probably Sloan and Anderson at some point.
But I don't have to rely on them with my next trade
because I did get another middle reliever with some serious upside
and the next deal.
I just think this is the type of deal you're going to have to do.
It's a year and a half.
Weaver's not Duran, but he's pretty darn good.
And so you're going to have to give up some top 100 prospect capital.
You're going to have to give up something that's going to sting a little bit.
And so for me, Weaver's the guy.
Whitlock also, but A, I wasn't 100% sure the Red Sox would sell and also B, I've talked about Whitlock a lot.
So I wanted to do something a little different here.
So Weaver's the guy for me.
I think he fits in great at the back end of that bullpen.
Got a lot of playoff experience, which is also nice and can take some of the pressure off of Ferrer
because he's got that change up, good against lefties.
So Weaver, to me, he's an obvious target this summer.
And then your final trade here is a three-teamer, big boy, with the Padres and the Cubs.
The Mariners are getting Sea Suzuki and a reliever David Morgan.
The Padres are getting prospects, Jonathan Long, and Brett Bateman from the Cubs.
And the Cubs are getting Luis Cassio, Luke Raleigh, and $13 million from the Mariners.
Yeah, that's right. I took a big swing.
All right.
Look, Suzuki, I don't think we have to talk that much about.
We've talked about him quite a bit.
He's obviously a right-handed bat that would play every day,
in this case, probably in right field while Canzone mostly DHS.
And he just provides balance.
He's basically Randy offensively.
Honestly, not that different defensively either.
You'd prefer him to be the DH, but you take what you can take.
You only get him for half a season.
Now, we've talked about the Castillo for Suzuki swap, why that makes sense,
why it might be a non-starter for the Cubs because of that extra year of club control
that they'd have to pay.
for Luis. So how do you help them? You give them a controllable piece like Luke Rayleigh,
who's a little redundant on your roster, rate both Hap is a free agent, and obviously they're
losing Suzuki. So they actually could be looking for outfield help in 2027 also. So Rayleigh
with the multiple years of club control, he's pretty cheap. I think that makes sense. But the problem
with including Rayleigh to the Cubs is what do the Cubs that you're overpaying then? What do the Cubs
give you that makes sense for Rayleigh? They don't really have a lot. You know, they really
need pitching. They need to hang on to their pitching and prospect-wise. It was kind of tough
to find a match. I like Jonathan Long personally. I think he's going to hit. He's not having a great
year this year, but the Mariners have Josh Naylor to a five-year contract on him. Like Jonathan Long
really only play first base. So who doesn't have a first baseman of the future, the Padres.
They don't have one. And they could use one now. And by the way, they're only giving up,
you know, David Morgan, who's a flexible reliever for them. He has options. He's kind of been
a middle guy, but if you look at the savant page, there's real potential there with Morgan that
I think the Mariners can unlock. And they get, you know, kind of a, Bateman's like a fourth outfield,
you know, 4A type of guy. He's fast, whatever. He might help off the bench. But Long is a legitimate
hitting prospect who could be in the middle of their lineup. I don't need them, but what I could use
is a reliever. And when I look at David Morgan, you know, his savant page is, is bright, bright red.
He does have a bit of a walk issue, but the stuff is very, very good.
He is near 100th percentile on average exit velo and chase.
He's way up there in whiff percentage, barrel, hard hit ground ball.
Like he doesn't give up hard contact.
The numbers that you're seeing right now, the ERA, that is a bit of a mirage.
Go watch the guy pitch and you'll see this stuff and it will pop out.
And that is like an A plus middle relief guy who does have the potential to jump and be a high relief guy
or high leverage guy
and you get him for five years after this year
and he has options.
So he's a controllable, maybe he's just the middle guy.
Maybe that's all easy.
He's just the sixth, seventh inning pivot guy.
Boy, do the Mariners need one of those guys as much as they need a high leverage guy?
And again, he has options.
So if you want to call up Kate Anderson at the end of the year,
if you want to call up Ryan Sloan at the end of the year and you have to make a decision
on who to send down, well, the only guy left in the Mariners bullpen that has options
is for rare.
I'm sending Ferrer down, but you can send Morgan down if you so choose.
But, you know, hey, maybe Sloan, they decided to just shut them down.
Okay, no problem.
We have Morgan who has this high, high velocity fastball, this great stuff.
We can make a tweak.
We can get more out of them than the Padres can.
Let's get that done.
So it's a bit of an overpay from Seattle on a pure prospect perspective for Morgan,
who they might be able to get for cheap, you know,
but they probably aren't going to get say a Suzuki if they don't do something like this.
So just trying to be creative, trying to be.
a little unique there and trying to clear some of the redundancy in the Mariners
roster while also adding impact.
And I think this is a good way to do it, you know, whether or not it makes sense.
I don't know.
But when I take a swing with a three-team deal and I like Morgan quite a bit and the Padres
are a team that's, I mean, heck, given another two weeks, the Padres might be sellers.
And at that point, maybe Estrada is the guy that the Mariners go get.
instead and we're not even talking about Suzuki.
Maybe they just make a solo deal, but
I do think this is a, yeah, I do think
this is a fun kind of just
unique three team deal that I think
makes enough sense that it should
at least get a conversation started.
I don't know if it would actually happen, but I think
it, I don't think anybody's laughing you
off the phone.
If you were to start
working on something like this.
All right. Well, that is Colby's trade deadline plan.
Mine's coming up here in just a moment,
but first a reminder, this episode of the lockdown
I'm Ares podcast is brought to you by Fandul.
The biggest stage in world soccer is here, and every match feels like it has the potential
for a memorable moment.
One goal can completely change the energy of a game, shift momentum, and alter the outcome
in an instant.
That's what makes tournament soccer so exciting from the opening whistle to the final kick.
And now, Fandul is giving fans another reason to stay locked into every match with every goal
pays.
Bet on a match and get bonus bets for every goal scored in that match.
More goals mean more bonus bets.
All you have to do is turn on your token.
So I'd be looking at teams with high scoring offenses and superstar players.
You know, the Messies, the Rinaldos, the Mbapes, the Amal's.
If you can find two or more of those guys on the same matchup, then you're really cooking.
The more aggressive, the better, the more chances created, the more opportunities for goals and more bonus bets.
So from the opening whistle to the final kick, let there be goals on Fandual.
Visit Fandual.com to get started.
now. And you're listening to the Locktime Marries podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network,
your team every day. As always, if you want to hear from me and Colby of more and help support
the show, we have a Patreon. It's called Control the Zone and on there we talk, Marys, Seahawks,
all the good stuff. For more information, go to patreon.com forward slash control the zone link in the
description of this episode. So we've heard Colby's trade deadline plan. Now it's time for my
trade deadline plan. And just like Colby, I have three trades as well. And we're going to start with
the biggest of the three,
where I have the Mariners acquiring
high leverage reliever,
Garrett Whitlock from the Boston Red Sox
for Felston and Luke Stevenson.
So this is essentially the same idea as the Yon-Doran trade.
The marriage trade to pull off with the twins last year.
I think the rumor deal with something like Durangelo Sanger
and Harry Ford and maybe a sweetener on top of those two guys for Duran.
I feel like Seleson and Stevenson are a fairly,
comparable package there.
Duron had two and a half years
left. Whitlock now has two and a half
years left. The next few years
are both club options at 8.25 million and
10.5 million. And Adam Jude
reported the other day that the mayors have internally
talked about creating a super
pin and they would essentially
accomplish that with a trade like this.
If everyone gets back on the field and
stays there, you're looking at a September
and playoff bullpen that features
Garrett Whitlock, Andres Munoz, Jose Ferrer, Gabe Spire, Edward Bizarro, Matt Brash.
That's the sixth guy that I'm mentioning here is Matt Brash, Ryan Sloan, and Kate Anderson.
Plus, keep in mind, they don't even carry 13 pitchers in the playoffs.
Yeah.
So you might even just leave Kate at home and put Hancock in the bullpen, you know, or Brian Wu in the bolt leg.
So, yeah, we have a different name for that bullpen.
here in the show that I've coined over the last,
and I've asked for over the last, what, three years.
But yeah, this certainly would be one way to achieve it, finally.
Yeah, absolutely.
So Woodlock's rocking a 260ER ray right now with a 286 FIP,
10-4-1Ks per 9 and a 1-95 walks per 9.
It's been a bit shaky on the road this year.
Opponents are heading 286-33-4-482 compared to the 149,
184-191-slash line they have against him at Fenway.
so that's something to potentially keep in mind there.
He's a fly ball pitcher,
but I wouldn't worry about that too much at T-Mobile Park,
especially with the elite week contact rates he gets.
He's 99th percentile and chase rate.
He's a really, really good pitcher.
Seleson, I agree with what Joe Doyle said to us the other day,
that it's hard to see much of a future for him in Seattle.
You know, there's questions about where he's going to play,
and the mayor has already seemed to have their middle infield of the future
locked up with Emerson and Young.
So I think with Celestin, you just be grateful
that he's stayed healthy and has had this resurgent year
and use it to your advantage to go get better now.
And then Stevenson, you know,
the Red Sox don't have a real catcher prospect
in their farm since they traded Kyle Teal.
I think he's someone they'd be all over,
especially with that left-handed pop.
You know, maybe there's a...
FNY, that's for sure.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
You know, maybe there's a sweetener on top of these two
to get it across the finish line.
You know, maybe there's another small piece
heading back to Seattle or whatever,
but this is the meat and potatoes of the deal
I think it's pretty strong.
Would you
they said we don't want Feldman.
Would you trade Lazz or Arroyo or Formello?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's kind of like what you were talking about with the we yeah,
with the weaver trade.
It's just like Celestin or Stevenson,
whoever you know,
you want to pick from that group just kind of represents
that crop of four or five
in Mariners prospects.
They're roughly in that same range.
So yeah.
Yeah.
So Colby, you know,
before the season started, we made some predictions about the trade deadline, like,
ah, the marries will probably reunite with Gino or they'll probably reunite with Polo or whatever, right?
And I do have a reunion here, Colby, well, with neither of those guys.
I was going to say, let me guess.
I have the Mariners acquiring Thai France from the San Diego Padres for Brock Rodden and Christian Little.
Look, the Padres are still in the mix right now, and AJ Preller has never been willing to admit defeat,
so I'm not sure how realistic this is.
But they're going backwards fast and France is a rental.
I mean,
they just see what happened with them last night.
They got off to a 6-0-0 lead and then they wound up losing 12 to 6.
Yeah, yeah.
It's gotten bad there in San Diego.
They're now only at 500 on the season after they got off.
You've surpassed them.
The Vetter Cup is a lie.
That should not be able to beat that team once all year.
Yeah, they won the battle.
We're winning the war now.
Yeah, talk to me after this weekend, but sure.
Yeah.
Yeah, we'll see.
But, yeah, France has been really, really good this year.
And if he does get traded, he's going to be sold as an everyday bat and justifiably so.
It's a 119 WRC plus against Ritey's this year.
And he's destroying lefties to the tune of a 154 WRC plus.
So I don't know if this is enough, but we saw what some of the best rental bats went for last year.
And Rodden.
Yeah, and Rodden and Little are both players who feel very much up San Diego's alley and should be able to contribute at the major league level within the next year.
Rodden probably right now.
now. I mean, France, maybe it's not those guys specifically, but it's certainly
range of player is it's more the idea than anything. Yeah, uh, France would primarily
platoon at DH with Rayleigh. But if I'm the Mariners, I'm giving France a good amount of
starts over at first and putting Naylor at DH, especially against lefties. I mean, we all know
about Naylor's defensive issues this year. And France is one of the best defensive first
baseman in the game. And, um, no, just to address this now, no, I'm not concerned about
it would look for the marries to trade for a guy they once DFA'd.
By the Gino trade.
Yeah, I think the Gino trade last year proved that Jerry and Justin don't care about stuff like that either.
So, yeah, I think this is a reunion that makes sense.
I'm just not sure where the Padres are going to be at, but I really like the fit of Thai France.
It's funny that we've gotten to this point, but France actually works on a couple of different fronts for the Mariners right now.
It just had to go away for like two and a half years and completely reinvent himself, and now he makes sense again.
like make no mistake the mirrors were not wrong technically they traded him but i think it was
after they dfated him but whatever they traded him to the rest of the cash yeah um but the mirrors
were not wrong to do it when they did it he had been bad at that point for about a year and a half
like fine whatever uh but yep we know tie france works in that clubhouse and that that's not an
issue uh we know that traditionally he has hit at team mobile park uh it's kind of a different
Ty France this year. There's more power, like
over the fence power. It'd be interesting
to see if he tries to carry that approach over to Team Mobile
or if he keeps it the same. Yeah, I just don't
know the Mariners want to carry a full-time
first base only on their
bench, but I mean, they're carrying Rob
Ruff Snyder for half the year or so
do they really care-
Yeah, do they really care about position flexibility
and hey, you know what? Ty France could play
second. Thai France can play there.
I think he's done that a little bit this year, actually.
He does, yeah, yeah, definitely don't want them to, but
in a pinch.
Yeah, I think that would be an interesting idea.
And again, certainly Nailer hasn't done really anything to,
like if Nailer wasn't making, you know,
in year one of a five-year contract,
we'd probably be talking about first base as a potential spot
to maybe try and upgrade because it's been rather mediocre there.
So, yeah, France would be fun.
You know, good vibes guy.
Yeah.
We know the Mariners care about vibes in their clubhouse.
And it seems like they could probably use some.
but yeah, France rental not going to cost that much, plus he's first base only.
But he's a right-handed bat, and that's going to be a shortage of this year.
Maybe it costs a little more, but I think you're in the right ballpark.
That'd be fun.
I would like Ty France to come back.
This version of him, I'd be very happy to add that bat to my bench and my lineup.
Yeah, you upgrade your right-handed hitting options.
You get a better defensive option at first base, and JP gets his best friend back.
All right, I got one more trade here.
Now, my guess is the mayors would stop at the Whitlock in France trades and just call it a deadline, but I'm pushing it a little bit further here.
I have the mayor's taking or getting Austin Martin from the Minnesota Twins for Charlie Bilanson and Brockmore.
Victor Robles has been fine defensively, but he's providing next to nothing at the plate and the mayors aren't picking up his option this winter.
So trading for Martin kind of allows them to essentially get their new Victor Robles at a fraction of the cost.
he's still pre-arb and he's under club control through 2030.
The thing that might make him pretty affordable here, though,
is that he's very clearly a weak side platoon hitter,
and he's been really bad for the last month or so.
He also only has one minor league option left,
and I'm just not sure how much of a future he has in Minnesota at this point.
But even with the 55 WRC Plus,
I think it was that he's had against lefties
just the start of June,
he's still getting on base at a 411 clip,
them on the year. And, you know, what I'd be most curious in seeing here is if he could play some
second base again, because then that gives me the option to pinch hit for Cole Young against
a tough lefty in October. Uh, Bileanson, you know, he's 26. Uh, he's having a good year in double
A and he'd probably be ready to jump into that twins bullpen right away. More, we, we all know how
electric the stuff is, but the walks have reared their ugly head again since he got promoted to
to Arkansas. So I don't know.
I think he's kind of the type of prospect
that works really well in a trade for someone like
Martin and for a team in Minnesota's position
right now. So I think that's
I think the package is
roughly in the ballpark for Martin
just given all the issues with Martin.
But I like the upside there.
And I like what he's done overall this year
against lefties despite the struggles over the last
month.
Yeah, it's interesting. Martin,
you know, I'm a big fan of him as well.
It's interesting our approaches here. We both added
the you know the daddy in the bullpen to try and build the what they tamely call the super pin
I like my name better it starts with a four-letter word so yeah but then I went out and I got an
everyday bat to put in the middle of the lineup and you went out and got two like supplemental
like role player bat so it's kind of an interesting approach yeah difference there but
yeah I would say you know it's much more likely they go get a role player I I
I don't know. My, I really hope that it's not just one reliever and then like one bench bat.
Like if you're going to get, if you're not going to add somebody to the starting lineup, go fix the bench entirely.
Like brand new bench.
That's kind of what my, my approach here was.
I kind of did what I think the Mariners will do, but then I took it one step further with the, the Martin trade.
I think they're going to go out.
They're going to get a, you know, a Rob Reff Snyder replacement essentially.
And I think they're going to go get a high leverage arm.
And that's probably going to be their deadline.
they should be looking for a Victor Robles replacement as well.
If you want to roll with Garber and parade as your backup catchers,
fine, no problem with that.
Totally fine.
Then obviously once Donovan comes back, either he or a starter will be on the bench,
you know, depending on what position he plays that day.
So maybe they feel like they only do need, you know, one bench guy,
but I think you need two because one of them is Donovan.
One of them is the catcher.
You have two bench spots left.
And remember, in the postseason, you typically only carry 12 pitchers.
so you're going to have a spot opened.
So go get two now.
And like you said,
the nice thing with Martin is,
is that he has an option.
So if you run into some issues before,
you know,
September,
you could just send him down to Tacoma.
And then September 1,
you call him back up.
And he's a bench guy that you have
because you're going to carry five guys on the bench in the playoffs.
Donovan or whoever he's starting for,
Garver,
go get a Victor Robles replacement,
get a rest night of replacement.
And then you have that fifth guy.
Maybe it's parade.
Maybe you carry three catchers.
Or maybe you carry just a,
speed guy, you know, or just a defensive wizard or whatever, right?
So the bench is going to be important for the Mariners, especially if they're not going to go,
if they're going to go get an everyday bat to stick in the, you know, middle bat or back
half of the lineup.
Okay, the bench not quite as important.
But if you're not going to do that, you need a good bench.
And the Mariners right now do not have one.
All right.
