Let's open up the mailbag like we do here every Monday and answer some of your mayor's
questions, starting with Jack, who wants to know, I understand giving Bryce Miller time to
find his footing after a break, but should it be time to pull the plug?
it seems like every start he makes puts the Mariners in a worse position,
whether it's the bullpen usage,
four to five runs per game,
which this offense cannot match right now.
He has given up four runs and four innings,
seven runs and five innings,
three runs and four innings,
and five runs and five innings in his last four starts.
Yikes.
You think you've got to give them at least a couple more starts.
Again, I don't know what the exact number is,
but it's not, you know, to the all-star break,
but it's not right now.
you do have to give the Mariners a chance and Bryce a chance to kind of figure out the right
formula here to get them ready to go between starts.
And, you know, we did see him hold his velocity a little bit longer in this last start.
So maybe that's a positive sign.
Maybe it's not.
I don't know.
But also, you know, as to do you do the surgery?
I think that's up to Bryce.
I think that's also, you know, up to the doctors and how specific is it?
Like, do you think that he can be, you know, he can have it in October?
and be ready to go by February,
like how long is he just not throwing at all?
Or can he not throw for a couple months?
And then he'll be fine and he can work it up
and you feel pretty good about that.
But could Bryce help out of the bullpen
and one to two innings?
Sure, we've seen Bryce have really good outings
in the first inning or two.
So that might be on the table after an IR stay,
or I should say.
Maybe that's something they discussed,
but as for how long do you give him?
I think you got to give him at least a couple more starts.
It is worth noting, I think, that this weekend,
Logan Evans was scratched from a start.
He was supposed to make a Tacoma.
Maybe he's dealing with something himself.
Or maybe they are just prepping him to maybe make a start in Bryce's spot.
So maybe they've already made this decision.
They've called up Canzone.
Maybe they just want an extra.
bat for a couple days before they make this swap with with bryson logan maybe logan's going on
the iL when it's his turn to start or maybe they didn't want it to give uh Logan evans an extra day or two
uh because he's pitched every five days all year and they just wanted to be careful i don't know
we don't know what that is but yeah it's one of those things where you know i think you got to
give him at least a couple more starts and then you have to have a real hard conversation and whether
that means ILing him for most of the year and then trying to bring him back in a bullpen roll or a lengthier IL stay and then hoping that, you know, that gets him closer to 100%. He comes back in August. I don't know what the plan is there. But I do think that you have to give the Mariners and Bryce time to kind of find the right combination of rest and rehab that can help him out. But yeah, we're, I don't know what, 12, 13 starts into this thing now. And we're basically at a point now where you have to make a decision here,
quick. Yeah. And again, the way that Bryce has described this procedure that apparently he needs
to have to get whatever is causing the inflammation out, whether that's bone spurs or what have you,
he's said that it's something that's going to take him out for the rest of the year. So, you know,
you think about that timeline right now. We're in June. September's still far ways away. The end
of September is still a far ways away. So if you have that procedure in the off season, there's a chance
that that could linger into spring training and maybe delay his start to the year.
And then you're talking about him having to, you know, ramp up a little bit later than
scheduled and all that stuff.
So, so if that, if there is a chance of that, if there is a risk of that, I just prefer
that you just get it done sooner, rather than later.
So that's just not even a question.
It's, yeah, we'll see what the mayor is determined is best.
But I think here after the next starter to you, you have to have a very real conversation about
what you do moving forward. Rayleigh fan wants to know about Luke Rayleigh. What do you think
Rayleigh's role will be in his return and who else will be most affected by it? I think he's
going in the outfield personally. What about you, Colby? I think he's your primary right fielder.
Now, he's probably at least two weeks away still. He was supposed to start his rehab assignment
last week.
They pushed it to this week.
They said it's going to be at least a week before, you know, he comes up.
So bigger maybe July 1 is still reasonable.
Well, depending on why they called up Dominant Canzone or why they're going to,
they haven't officially yet.
Depending on why they did that, this could be a case where it's like, well, let's give Canzone
some run in right field and see where he's at for a couple weeks while we wait for
Rayleigh.
And then if he does hit and if he does.
does, you know, provide value there, then maybe Luke Rayleigh becomes the upgrade to first base.
And Rowdy gets pushed to a bench roll or he gets D.F or whatever, right?
But I do think that right now, the plan would be he's going to be playing against
our right-handed pitching out in right field for the most part.
And, you know, probably DEMO will be his platoon partner.
And obviously, they'll have to move some stuff around there.
But, yeah, I do think that Rayleigh is.
just going to be the primary right fielder more than likely.
But again, if Canzone comes up and he hits for a couple weeks while we wait for Rayleigh to come,
then maybe just maybe Rayleigh is looked at more as the first basement in Canzone is left alone in right field.
But yeah, I mean, allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised by Dom Canzone.
I wouldn't set any expectations there.
But if that happens, the Mariners do have options.
But right now I think their plan is for him just to be the platoon, the heavy side platoon of their right field solution.
Well, on that note, we did have a question about Dominic Canzone from Reggie.
Canzone and AAA is batting 296 with 13 home runs and an OPS of 924.
Why are they continuing to go with Tamaris?
So there was an account last night, I think on Facebook or something, Marjor posted it last night saying,
congratulations to Dom Canzon on getting called up to the mayors or something like that.
So who knows if that's real?
but it seems like
maybe Canzon is heading to the big league club today
maybe the corresponding move there is
DFA and Laoti Tavares.
Maybe the Tavares experiment is over.
Could also be Master Boney.
Hopefully it's not an injury.
I mean, Julio did play yesterday
after the ankle scare.
It didn't seem like anyone else got hurt yesterday.
Everyone was able to finish the game.
So, yeah, I would assume,
that it's either Tavares who had a rough night on Saturday or Master Boney, but probably not
Master Boney. I don't think that makes a ton of sense. I don't think Master Boney's presence on the
roster makes a ton of sense. There's like at least one to two dudes in front of him in every position
he plays. So whatever. Whatever. It's just like they used him yesterday, Tavares. They didn't, I don't know,
just kind of trying to like. What Tavares is going for him is that he still owed some money.
And nobody claims him. Then the Mary.
Mariners are on the hook for that money.
Why does he keep getting opportunities?
He's a 26-year-old switch hitter who, despite what we saw on Saturday, is actually a really good defender in the outfield with a really strong arm.
And he does have, you know, a season under his belt where he was a league average hitter and he's got 15 home run power and you can steal some bags.
Like the tools are all there to be a really good player.
And maybe the Mariners don't want to lose him on the waiver wire.
Maybe they hope he does sneak through and they could push him to AAA.
and try that.
But he also has three years of club control remaining.
And the Mariners, again, they, I mean, they didn't write the check all up front.
But right now they owe him, you know, $3 million, give or take.
And that might not be an investment they're willing to move on from.
Maybe it is.
But if you put him on waivers and he clears, I don't believe he's in a position to refuse the assignment.
So you would just go to AAA.
And if he doesn't, then you save yourself, you know, three million bucks.
So I could see Tavares being the move there, assuming one.
gets made. But yeah, I think they really like Tavares's upside. And it's weird, but it's weird,
but because, you know, Tavaris has been in the league forever, but he's younger than Dominant
Canzone. Yeah. So I think that's probably what they're hoping on. But maybe they ran out of time
or maybe they're going to try and sneak him through or I don't know. We'll see what happens there. But I, I think
they like Tavares's upside and they like his, the number of ways he can help you win. Whereas Canzone,
pretty much needs to hit a home run to help you win.

Before we get back into your questions here on Mailbag Monday,
check in on our Feeding America fundraiser as we do here at the start of every segment two on
this show.
Bootsie came through with a $30.
donation on Friday.
It says, thanks guys.
Appreciate a Bootsie.
Anonymous with $20.
Jason with $75.
Lawrence Evans, who I'm 99.9% sure is the Lawrence Evans,
who is the father of Logan Evans,
mayor's pitcher.
This is amazing.
And I am excited to help.
Thanks for bringing light to this often overlooked issue in our country.
Well done.
The Evans family.
Thanks so much.
All right.
Thanks so much to you and your family.
M. Bailey with $200.
Thank you so much.
That is awesome.
That's an incredibly, incredibly generous donation.
And then Corey, lastly, with a $40 donation, says, awesome cause.
Much love from North Carolina.
Love the content.
Thank you so much.
So, Colby, for those that are not aware, I'm sure you all are aware at this point.
But hey, maybe this is your first episode of Lockdown Merritt.
First of all, welcome.
Second of all, Colby, let them know what we got going on here with Feeding America.
We're doing a fundraiser with Feeding America.
That's right.
Yeah.
And what is Feeding America, Colby?
Great follow-up question, Ty.
Feeding America is a charity that works with wholesalers and directly with farmers and et cetera to essentially provide free meals to people who need them the most.
One in five children in this country are food insecure.
They don't know where the next meal is coming from.
50 million or more people are food insecure.
They have no idea where their next meal is going to come from.
Schools getting out for the summer.
Those kids are going to lose access to the one meal they might get a day.
And the price of groceries continues to go up and up and up.
So it's very hard for a lot of people to provide meals and to get fed and to stay healthy.
So Feeding America partners with a bunch of great organizations.
And they turn every dollar that we raise into 10 meals to give to those.
who are facing food insecurity.
It's a fantastic value to donate $1 and to feed 10 people.
And that's what we're doing.
We did this a couple years ago and we hit $15,000 and some change, which was incredible.
This year we set the goal of $2,500.
I think we're almost at $4,000.
You might be over it already.
And so we're running this through the All-Star break.
So I'll have about a month or so to donate.
And every little bit helps if you guys have already donated or you want to help,
but you don't have the extra money right now.
That's totally cool.
Ty and I are donating 10 cents for every new subscriber we get for the duration of this fundraiser.
So I have to do is subscribe to this YouTube channel.
And if you do that, you donated one meal to somebody who desperately needs it.
And that would help out a lot.
You guys want to help out more than that.
You can share the link and you can, you know, share the episodes and tell your friends to subscribe
to the channel and all that all that will will add up and uh help us uh feed a lot of people i mean
right now we're almost at or i don't i don't remember what the exact number is but we're about 40 000
yeah four thousand two hundred and thirty one uh 42 thousand meals yeah uh so yeah it's it's awesome
uh to see the progress every day but uh yeah the weekends are always slow so let's kick it back up
let's get some more donations flown and let's uh let's you know get word out there and we'll see how high we
could take this thing. Can we beat $15,000 like we got two years ago?
We'll see. We'll see. But yeah, already a really good response, just a weekend. And that's a really
cool thing to see. Yeah. So thank you again so much to everyone that has donated so far.
Really, really appreciate your generosity. Let's keep it going. See how far we can take this thing.
All right. Grumpier old man wants to know. If we're not buyers at the deadline,
What would you do?
You can't do nothing.
I would sell and I would also buy.
Sure.
I would see first and foremost how crazy return you could get for Andreas Munoz,
who is one of the five best relievers in baseball and is still under club control for the next three seasons at $6 million, $8 million and $10 million.
So could I get like one of the best prospects in the game for him?
Could I get like an actual everyday big leader for him?
him like a good one.
What could I get for Andreas Munoz?
Then I would also look into like, what could I get for Randy a Roserana?
Maybe some of these guys that are due a lot and are going to be too a lot in arbitration this winter or, you know, they're just do a lot and guaranteed money like Luis Castillo, like you mentioned.
Yeah.
Basically, anybody you think you might trade this winter, you just start that process now.
You would also, if you're truly sellers, you would also shop Dylan Moore and Jorge Palanco and any of the rental.
like you normally would.
But yeah, I think you'd start by shopping Munoz,
but I'm also looking to buy because I'm looking to upgrade my chances in 2026.
And so while rentals don't make a lot of sense or any sense, really,
a player who has more than two months of club control could always make sense.
And you should always be looking to add that player, you know,
especially if you're perpetually trying to compete.
So if you can go out and you can get a,
I mean, I don't know, like an Aussie Albies type of guy.
Then you just go do that.
And then, okay, that costs some prospects or whatever.
Let's go, let's go recoup and let's go trade Munoz or let's go trade Brash or let's go trade Castillo and see what we can get.
And you might even get major leaguers for those guys.
So it's not so much of a pure selling move.
It's more of a kind of a reallocation sort of thing.
But you can't do nothing, right?
You can't sit on your hands.
I don't think there's any scenario.
the mayors could be in where I would not at least be trying to buy for 2026.
Yeah.
But yeah, you should also, if you're totally out of it, you should look to sell.
And that includes guys like Munoz, who, you know, would suck to trade him.
But you should always be trying to sell high on like your relief pitchers.
It's such a volatile position.
You never know what year this thing is going to collapse on any reliever.
And they're really hot commodities at the deadline every single year.
So, yeah, the Mariners did decide to sell.
they would be set up really well to take advantage of a seller's market and really cash in and maybe extend the window.
But, you know, obviously you don't want them to be in that position.
You want them to be in a position where they have to buy.
But if they're not, then, yeah, they should be willing to listen on just about anybody except for, you know, Cal Raleigh and Julio.
I mean, pretty much anybody else is fair game.
Although I would doubt pretty heavily that they would trade Wu, Gilbert or Kirby, in the middle of the year.
Yeah, no, that's more of an off-season thing.
Yeah. But yeah, Munoz, like, how crazy could that get?
How crazy could a return get on Andreas Munoz?
It's hard not to think about that.
He's like as good as Andres has been.
And before those two blown saves, he was literally leading the entire league, both
position players and pitchers and win probability at it.
It's been one of the more valuable players in all of baseball this year.
But he's still a reliever.
He's still only going to impact, what, 60 to 70 maybe games?
a year. If you could turn that into a couple of everyday players or some assets that can
go help you go get a couple of everyday players this, this winter. Yeah, you kind of have to
heavily consider that. I mean, two months of Auraldis Chapman, prime Aroldus Chapman,
got the Yankees Glaber Torres, who was like a top 10 prospect at the time. And Andrew
Andrew Miller. Yeah. Clint Frazier, who became a meme, but at the time was like top five,
top 10 prospect in all of baseball.
So three years of Munoz,
I think that's the starting point.
And the beauty of trading relievers is it's not just the teams with bad
bullpins who would want them.
It's the teams with already great bullpins who would want them because they would
make them that much better.
So Munoz makes sense to a lot of teams.
And then obviously with the pitching market the way it usually is,
Luis Castillo would be interesting, especially pitching the way he has,
not so much his last start, but the previous four or five.
And then, yeah, Randy Rosaranda,
because of the lack of bats that are going to be available.
this summer, he would certainly generate interest as well.
So there's three guys right there.
Gabe Spire also would probably generate a lot of interest as well and brash.
So yeah, the Marrars decided to sell off a couple of these pieces because they're out of it.
They would cash in pretty darn well.
All right.
We're going to answer a couple more of your questions here in just a moment.
But first a reminder of this episode of the Locktime Marrars podcast is brought to you by game.

And you're listening to the Locked on Airs podcast.
is mailbag Monday. Let's answer your last couple of questions here. John Brown's beard wants to know.
How do you feel Cole Young looks after the sample size? You got to give me at least a month
before I can sit here and tell you this, this, this, this, and that, like, there's just not enough
data here. And, you know, he did look better this weekend in Anaheim. And, you know, I don't
think he looks necessarily overmatched at the plate or anything like that. I just think that, you know,
he's struggling. And he's making an adjustment right now. And,
remember it took Cole about a month in AAA before he really took off.
And so he's a 21-year-old playing in his second level this year.
And so, yeah, it's not that surprising that he's struggling a little bit at the plate.
He's playing some really solid defense, which is, you know, great.
And that certainly helps.
And again, he did have, I think, three hits this weekend.
So that's a good sign as well.
But, yeah, he's struggling right now.
There's no question about it.
But he's also still your best option at first at,
second base right now. Yeah, it's like who are you going to play over Cole Young right now.
Dillmore is a disaster right now. Miles Master Boney can't play every day, no shot that that's
going to happen. And, uh, you know, it's Leo Rivas maybe who the Mariners apparently just hate for some
unknown reason. So they just don't like him. Those are really your option. So yeah, you're going to roll with
Cole Young. And there's really no reason not to give Cole Young until the All Star break,
give or take to try and see if he can do it. Because if he does, the tradeoff here is you sit through
this and if he does give you something and you feel like you can handle that spot for the rest of
the year, that's one less thing on your shopping list. And it's probably one of the most expensive
things on your shopping list. So it's well worth the tradeoff to let him play and see what
you can do. But I just, you know, it's been what? About 10 days now, give or take?
Yeah, about 10 days. Nine days. You got to give them more time before we can give you a good idea.
but yeah, I think he looks like a guy who's struggling right now,
but he's not completely lost.
And I think that's an okay place to be 10 games into your major league career
as a 21-year-old who was playing high school baseball two years ago,
well, two and a half years ago, like pretty nuts.
Dave wants to know, I liked you guys mentioning both Naylor and G&O as trade targets
if Arizona trends down, assuming the M's remain competitive.
Is someone like Corbyn Carroll truly untouchable with Arizona?
his window seemingly closed for now.
If he's available, would it essentially be a sell the farm move.
Wouldn't just be a salt the farm.
Like we're talking like Gilbert, George Kirby, like Brian Wu, like those guys are getting thrown around and those conversations.
You're probably talking minimum.
Wu, Munoz, Colt Emerson.
Yeah.
Maybe Julio.
Like, like, no.
Like, Arizona's not even picking up your phone call.
if you ask you no no yeah nope the waste of your time yeah gerald like basically an MVP candidate this
year he is there Julio he is there Cal Raleigh they are not trading him period and he signed an extension
that is incredibly team friendly yeah he is unavailable he's one of the few guys I don't think
that even like Brian Wu gets you in like the conversation for and and let's let's say that they were
open to trading him for a second here
Even under those circumstances, it's not happening in the summer.
That's an offseason thing.
Yes.
So, yeah.
Yeah, it just, no, that is not happening.
Well, that's going to do it for our show.
