Episode Date: September 4, 2024It just keeps getting worse for the 2024 Mariners. Walked off in three of their last four losses, the M's have seen their playoff hopes vanish and fans have hardly anything to look forward to outside ...of yet another offseason of retooling. Ty and Colby discuss Seattle's issues on the road both recently and on the year as a whole, especially when it comes to its otherwise vaunted pitching staff. Plus, does Randy Arozarena want to be in Seattle? Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
today's show it just keeps getting worse for the merrers who now find themselves below 500 for the
first time since mid-april which is a far more fitting winning percentage for the level of play we've
seen out of this ball club now i don't know if we're necessarily going to talk about the last
two games and in great detail but uh we're definitely going to talk about how truly pathetic this is
getting we'll also talk about randy or rosarena and uh you know if he wants to be here frankly which i
I think at this point is a fair question to ask, given some of the things we've seen and
heard.
And lastly, what are Colby and I looking out for over these final few weeks of the season?
Before we get into all that, shout out to our title sponsor today.

this road trip folks has been a complete unmitigated disaster which is a lot like the last
road trip this team went on and like many of the road trips this team has gone on but somehow some
way this team continues to find ways to
top the previous disaster
of the very next night,
especially the last four days.
They've gotten walked off
three of their last four losses.
The offense has gotten off to
some hot starts, but hasn't been able to play
add on, and then the pitching has allowed
both the angels and A's
to get back into these games.
Everyone's at fault. So yeah,
things are great. I'm in a great mood
talking about my favorite baseball team right now.
Colby, you got any thoughts on what's been happening?
Yeah, just said it's a bummer that this team has essentially given up on the season because they actually got a lot of help over the last four or five days, not from the Astros.
The Astros keep on winning, but the Astros actually did help you because they beat the Royals four times.
And the Royals have lost five or six in a row.
And if you had just beaten these bad teams you were playing, you would be within two.
one and a half-ish games of that last wild card spot because Detroit is the only team right now
in, you know, kind of competing for that last wild card spot.
It's actually playing good ball.
So all you have to do is beat these bad teams on your schedule on the road and you win these games.
We're having a different conversation today.
We're talking about like, okay, well, you know, the Astros won't stop winning.
So the division's probably out of the question.
But look at this.
You're only a game and a half out of the wild card spot.
Like you can actually still make the playoffs.
So something that we didn't think was likely to happen at all, two weeks ago, was all of a sudden right in front of you.
It was there for the taking.
And instead of fighting for it, this team has literally given up.
Like, you can see it in their body language.
You can see it in the way they play the game.
They're toast.
They've given up, which is truly pathetic, you know, and it's really, really a bummer that when you kind of really break this season down into its simplest terms,
their inability to handle the angels and the Oakland A's is going to end up being their downfall.
Like their inability to just beat bad teams is going to be what the difference between them making the playoffs and not making the playoffs.
So, you know, that's a bummer.
But also when you just look at the reality of the situation, all that tells us is that the Mariners themselves are not a good baseball team.
They're not.
You cannot come to that conclusion right now.
You can't even say they're average baseball.
team. They're not. They are objectively at this moment a bad baseball team. Yeah, they're not even
mediocre. Right. And bad baseball teams, they find ways to lose games in ridiculous ways. And we're
seeing that happen almost on a nightly basis now with this ball club. And you can say, no, they're,
they're still mediocre because they still have a great pitching staff. But it's like even the
pitching is kind of falling apart right now, especially on the road, which has been an issue, you know,
over the course of the whole year. But it's been very much prevalent over the last few days.
And you look at their numbers on the road, this rotation, you know, their middle of the pack to, you know, somewhere in the bottom 10 and pretty much every category on the road, you know, compared to how well they've pitched at home.
And obviously, this has still been a great year for the rotation as a whole.
We've talked about how, you know, deep they are and, you know, how they kind of stack up against other rotations, you know, and years past, you know, over the last decade plus.
but the road woes are very, very prominent.
So are they just T-Mobile Park merchants?
Like, is that what's happening here?
Is that what we're finding out here?
Like, Colby, what are your thoughts on what's going on with the pitching right now?
Yeah, I don't know.
They're certainly too talented to be, you know,
to have this wide of a gap between how they pitch at home
versus how they pitch on the road.
So it's not like,
Like, you know, if George Kirby pitched for, yeah, I mean, that Arizona Diamondbacks that he would be a bad pitcher, right?
That's not what we're saying.
But yeah, very clearly, in particular over the last month or so, the rotation has been significantly worse on the road than it has at home.
And I'm not really sure what that's about because, again, it's not like their stuff gets way worse on the road.
It's not like these are, you know, five Chris Youngs who just live at the top of the.
zone and they get all these fly up fly balls to the warning track that aren't going to carry anywhere.
These are, you know, five legitimate dudes in this rotation, five legitimate mid-rotation starters,
who seemingly have all, with the exception of, I guess, woo a little bit, all decided that
pitching on the road is such a laborious task that they can't be the guy that they've been
pretty much all year.
So yeah, I'm not really sure what the issue is there.
To me, this is, leans more to some kind of concentration.
issue or some kind of leadership issue.
Because, you know, again, for the difference to be that fast with the stuff that they have,
with what we know they've been in the past, both at home and on the road.
Like, I don't think this is just like, oh, well, you know, they can only pitch it at
T-Mobile Park.
Like, no, I think there's something else going on here as to what it is.
I don't know.
But, yeah, it's very weird.
It's strange.
And, yeah, the home runs are a problem.
and in particular, you know, Castillo and Kirby and they've given up three, four home runs in a start.
And, you know, usually they're solo home runs.
But if you give up three home runs and two of them are solo and one of them's not, then you're pretty much lost with this offense.
Yeah, with this offense, you lost the game.
And obviously with the bullpen serving up home runs pretty prodigiously right now, particularly on the road, they're giving up when the bullpins in the game, it's late in the game.
right and this offense is not deep enough to add on or to score or to make up those runs that late so yeah just it's a disaster right now on the road they've won what is it two of their last uh three two of their last 15 on the road i believe it is like they are 13 games under 500 on the road uh which tells you how good they are at home so it's kind of weird you know we spend a lot of time talking about building the team that can win at team mobile park um mission accomplished
but they haven't
yeah but they haven't built a team that can win
anywhere else and again it's not like
they're just they're facing you know the astros
and the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks and all that
stuff on the road like no they're facing
Detroit and Pittsburgh and
Oakland and the Angels
and they still can't win there so
yeah it it's a real bummer
but I really don't know what the what the deal is with the pitching on the
road there's yeah they've
they've won six series on the road all year
this year
One of them against the white socks.
One of them against the white socks.
Another one is a two game set against the Padres.
Right.
The last time they've won a three game set against,
this is from our friends at the Marine Layer podcast, by the way.
The last time that they won a three game set or more on the road
against a non-white socks, non-A's team,
the Astros on May 3rd through the 5th.
That was when the Astros weren't playing good.
ball. Yeah. Yeah. And again, to me, that consistent of a problem that points to something,
you know, clubhouse related, leadership related, focus related, that these guys go on the road and
basically view it as a two-week vacation. And, you know, that only gets interrupted by them having
to work later that night. So whatever it is, I hope they figure it out, but I honestly don't know.
Like the offense makes sense.
I mean, if anything, you think the offense would be better on the road.
But it's just a bad offense.
So they're bad on the road.
They're bad at home.
It doesn't matter.
It's pitching.
I have no idea why that's the case.
So Radio Rosa Raina, does he actually want to be here in Seattle?
I think it's a fair question to at least ask at this point.
And is that a Randy problem or is that an indictment on the mayor's culture right now?
Colby and I will discuss in just a moment.

you can catch all the action between the Mariners and the A's
tonight on the Marriss Hometown broadcasts with SiriusXM via the SXM app.
All you have to do to find that is search the word Mariners.
All right.
So let's talk about Randy or Rose Arena.
We've talked about him quite a lot over the last few episodes,
obviously because of what Ryan Divish said on the Marine Layer podcast.
And then we brought Divish on here to talk about that a little bit.
The possibility of the Mariners trading him this off season,
which you and I disagreed with,
with regards to the process of doing that, right, considering, you know,
what went into trading for him in the first place, what the context of that was,
not just for this year, but for 2025 and potentially 2026 as well.
But, you know, we've heard some things about Randy struggling to adjust to, you know,
his new situation, which that isn't a typical for players who get traded midseason.
that happens
you know it's hard for someone
to just kind of like pick up their life
and move across the country
on the drop of a dime
you know in the middle of a baseball season
and you know
come into a situation that's already been
going for months and months
but it seems like it might be
a little bit more than that
when you see like he went into the Ray's clubhouse
and hung out there for a little while
and I know that didn't rub some guys
the right way there.
And now you see him on the field.
And let's just say that the effort has been inconsistent at best.
Overall, the offensive numbers are fine.
He had a great homestan recently.
But there are occasions where it just doesn't look like he's given it 100%.
And last night on the base pass,
there was a play where
he took off at the pitch
seemed like maybe it was a hit and run
or he was just trying to steal second, what have you.
Justin Turner checked his swing
on a three two count,
ended up getting called for a strike.
And then Randy just stops running
on the throat of second,
gets tagged out.
Now, maybe he was just confused
about if that was actually a check swing
and that was just ball four.
whatever. Maybe he lost track of the outs.
It doesn't matter. Just run out the play.
Why aren't you running out the play?
Even if you're out, why aren't you running out the play?
Sure. I mean, the whole point of that is you send the guide.
So Turner, who makes a lot of contact, if he puts the ball on the ground,
you might be able to stay out of a double play.
But as a base runner, your job in that situation is to treat it like you're stealing second base, right?
Which means you keep your head down, you peek in, you peek in to see, you know, if the ball got put in play,
and then it's head down and you slide into second base like you're trying to steal.
Like it really is essentially the runner's job is to treat that just like you would any other stolen base.
And Randy treated it like it was either he thought that, you know, Turner definitely didn't swing,
which there's no way he can tell if he's doing his job, whether he swung it or he thought that there was two outs and that Turner's strikeout was a strikeout number or out number three.
But again, it doesn't matter because either he didn't really.
realize how many outs there were, which is a lack of concentration. That's a problem in and of itself.
Or he assumed that Turner had walked and they weren't going to call that strike three, which,
again, doesn't matter. You shouldn't be leaving that up to the umpires anyways. Your job in that
instance is to steal second base. So regardless of the reason or whatever, regardless of
why the blunder was made, there are no good explanations for it. Right. It is either a complete,
any way you want to slice it. It's a complete lack of effort and it is a lack of concentration.
Like those are the two options and it's probably a little bit of both. So yeah, any way you want to
slice it, Randy was abysmal last night and, you know, it also goes to the plate appearances
he was having where he was just flailing at sliders, you know, six inches off the plate all night.
And honestly, he looked annoyed when he walked in his last app out like, oh, I can't believe I
have to go run the bases right now. Now, Randy has, he had a game like this on the last road trip.
I think it was in Pittsburgh, where he went 0 for five with five strikeouts. It was the same thing.
It was just chasing the same pitch like he was trying to get out of the batters box as fast as possible.
So, you know, it's been a couple games like that. And then I'll have a couple games where he looks
like he's, you know, one of the best, he looks like the guy the Mariners traded for. Like he'll go out
there and hit a home run. He'll go two for four with a double. He'll steal a bag, you know,
and he's diving in the outfield and he's making catches and all that stuff.
So like it's very weird.
And it does seem like he's played better at home since he was acquired than he has on the road.
So I don't know exactly what's going on there.
Obviously, Randy is not 100% here, like mentally with the Seattle Mariners.
And you certainly can understand it.
It's the guy who's, you know, a fan favorite in Tampa for half a decade.
His family's still down there.
like he's in a new place in a new in a new spot and and obviously the team's now struggling.
So you can you certainly understand why mentally he would be, you know, kind of not 100% in on the rest of the season.
But the same time, like this is a guy who's going to ask you to pay him $10, $12 million next year and to whether you like it or not to be kind of a focal point of the fan base and of that clubhouse.
and if he's going to have these lapses of effort, you know, on a fairly regular basis,
do you really want to, you know, reward that guy?
So it's a very difficult decision the merits have to make because is this just a case of like,
look, once he gets, you know, a spring training with us, once he gets to know the guys in
the clubhouse a little bit better, once he gets his family up here, you know, is this
something that we can salvage or is this guy just, you know, just a bad fit in the clubhouse?
Well, again, the season has been a disaster, and Randy walked into this thing and with expectations kind of placed upon him to help fix it, right?
So I get it if that, you know, creates kind of a weird entrance into the organization for him and he feels a bit awkward and a bit removed from what's going on and all those things.
But, yeah, again, it's just, you know, it's the, it's the going into the race clubhouse.
it's the you know again the the inconsistent um images of effort that we've seen um it's all these things
you know both between what we've heard and what we've seen that just makes me go
does he actually want to be here like but again when when you're when you're coming into a
situation like this which was already looking pretty dysfunctional before the trade deadline and
you know things were already falling apart and they had already blown the 10 game lead and all those things
and then you know you come in and you're kind of looked at to be you know one of the saving graces of the situation and then
you came in you were tied first place though like yeah but there wasn't any motivation left no but you know a lot of
bad had happened leading up to the deadline and then the you know and then you come into the situation
your manager gets fired all that a lot has happened right a lot of negative has happened
uh in the time leading up to randy's arrival and then after
his arrival. And so like I understand it from that perspective that you know, you get into the
situation and you're like, the hell is going on here. Right. It's like the, it's like the gift of
Donald Glover and community when he walks in with the pizzas and everything is on fire. It's kind of
like that. Right. But again, at the end of the day, like he's got to handle himself as a professional,
right? You're, you're getting paid to be a baseball player. You're getting paid to put, you know,
100% effort into every single game. No matter what the situation is. Maybe he's not doing that. I mean,
it's not a great look for a guy that just entered the organization.
I would say one of my, like, if you're looking for like a bigger picture, like concern here,
one of my concerns would be like, is the Mariners Clubhouse too clickish?
Like, is Randy being isolated by other members of the Mariners Clubhouse because he's an outsider?
I don't know.
And by the way, we know that's the thing that's happened.
We know that like the Cano Segura thing, that was because Connoe Sigurra thing, that was because
Cano, Seguera, Cruz, and a couple other guys, they got really clickish in that clubhouse,
and D. Gordon wasn't in that click. And Segura was mad at D. Gordon for literally nothing.
And there was that big fight at the end of the year. Like, clubhouses can develop clicks.
And if there's a problem with accepting newer players into the clubhouse or into the structure of your clubhouse,
then it's on the Mariners to learn who those problem players are and get rid of them.
So if that's an issue too
If there's just like Randy's being treated like an outsider by his own teammates
And again that's all speculation I don't know
Nobody does
But if you're like hey why is he so homesick
Why is he having such a hard time fitting in
What's the clubhouse like?
What is the upper been there to incorporate Randy into this thing?
So now that we can pretty much safely say that the mirrors are cooked
As far as the playoffs go
What are Colby and I keep it an eye out for
over these final few weeks of the season. We'll talk about that in just a moment. But first,
a reminder of this episode of the Lockdown errors podcast is brought to you by both
price picks and game time. Prize picks is the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy
sports. Unlike other apps on prize picks, it's just you against the numbers. All you do is pick
more or less on two to six player stat projections and watch the winnings roll in. You can now win
win up to 100 times your money on prize picks with as little as four correct picks. You can turn
$10 into $1,000.
Think Tyree Kill will get more than 90 and a half yards in week one, or that Caleb Williams

your game. So some of you may not know this, but I used to live in New Mexico. And down in New
Mexico, there are zero pro sports teams. And a lot of the bands and artists that I listen to skip
going there more often than not. So when I moved to Toronto where there's a baseball team,
a basketball team, a hockey team, even a soccer team, and there's great music being played
every night in the city. Yeah, I was right in my element. And when I want to catch a ball game or
my wife and I want to see a band, I always get our tickets through game time. And that was the case
well before Game Time sponsored our network
and before I even joined the network because
it is truly
the best ticketing service hands down.
I really, really believe that.
And now it's getting even better
thanks to Game Time Picks. Game Time Picks
filters out the fluff to show you
only incredible deals on great seats
so you don't have to waste time searching
through thousands of tickets. I can just
go on the app. It'll show me the best deal
right away. It'll show me the exact view
I'll have. Most importantly,
it'll tell me exactly what I'm going to
with game times all in pricing so there are no annoying little fees that pop up at the very last
second so take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time download the game time app create an

game time and you're listening to the locked on mirrors podcast once again you can catch all the
action between the Mariners and the A's tonight on the Mariners hometown broadcast with
Sirius XM v the SXM app all you have to do to find that is search the word Mariners will be doing
a post game show tomorrow following the the Mariners and A's series finale yeah we're still
going to be doing post game shows I mean what else are we going to be talking about here over
the final 20 or so days because cool I'll tell you this I really could not care less about a lot
the players that are on this team because I think this roster is in need of a massive overhaul
this offseason and I kind of expect a massive overhaul this off season.
I don't know if that's going to lead to anything better, but I do think a lot of these guys
that are currently making up this 26 man roster, they're going to find their way out of
the door one way or the other.
What I would like to see, and again, it's something we talked about on Monday.
Who knows if, you know, he's actually ready for the challenge or not.
and I admit this fully comes from a selfish place where I just I want something interesting to watch and root for and keep an eye out on.
And that's calling up Cole Young.
I think Cole Young should be on the ball club, especially at this point.
J.B. Crawford has one hit since coming back from the Andrew list.
It's been a rough go for him all year long.
I think Josh Ross is getting non-tendered this off season.
because $5 million is a lot for a player that has been at best wildly inconsistent this year.
Now, I think there's a strong argument to be made that he's been overexposed,
that he's just not a starting caliber player, that he's more of a utility guy.
Like we had initially envisioned him and talked about this offseason.
So I think Rojas is someone that could still help a ball club.
I just, you know, I don't think it's going to be in Seattle at that dollar figure.
So I think there's opportunities here for Cole Young to,
get playing time again you know i don't know if he's ready for the challenge or not that's not
you know in my wheelhouse to to uh you know confidently say whether or not that's the case
uh but that's just from a fan perspective that's what i would like to see sure and he can do that in two
weeks like it doesn't have to be now like is there a huge benefit to giving him 20 games at the big
leagues versus 10 games at the big leagues no not really so you could always give him that cup of coffee
and have him hang around the team for you know the last
couple weeks and, you know, give him a handful of at-bats and all that stuff. So yeah,
it's certainly something that they should consider whether or not they ultimately do it. I don't
know. But they shouldn't be concerned about starting his clock or 40-man roster crunches or
anything like that. That doesn't exist. So, yeah, that'd be fine. Yeah, I mean, for me,
a couple things, a couple of guys on this roster that I would like to see, you know, how they play
into next year's plans. One of the things we've seen, pretty much.
much since, I mean, really for the last five or six days, but pretty much since Dan Wilson has taken over as the manager, we've seen Julio get to the pole side quite often, which is good. Since, you know, since, you know, Dan Wilson was or became the manager. And I'm not saying it's because of Dan Wilson, but it's just an arbitrary starting point, right? Since that day, Julio's hitting 256, which is about what he's hit all year. But he's running a 388 on base and a 462 slug.
So if Julio was doing what he's doing right now, but with a 462 slug,
I mean, the mayors are probably a wildcard team.
Like, let's just call it what it is.
Julio's been bad this year relative to what Julio should be.
But you look at what he's done in the last couple of weeks,
18% walk rate, 18% strikeout rate,
a couple homers, couple doubles, couple stolen bases,
you know, and pulling the ball hard with authority to his pull side.
Good to see.
Good to see.
And I want to see him continue to do that.
somewhat quietly a little bit in that same time span.
The Dan Wilson era will call it.
Victor Robles has gotten back on a Linsanity run of sorts.
He's hitting 391, 400.
So his Lincenity run wasn't over, Colby.
I mean, he was the worst player in baseball for three weeks.
So, yeah, I would say this is a new Linsanity run, actually.
Sure, sure.
But yeah, he's at 391, 400, 565, 175, 174 WRC plus.
So I'd like to see him, see how legitimate this is.
Can he finish on the strong note?
Luke Rayleigh has been totally fine.
And I think Rayleigh is a guy who, you know, I hope survives this winter.
I mean, obviously there's going to be some interest in trading him and it's going to make some sense to trade him.
But I hope he survives.
He's been probably your best hitter from start to finish this year, which is a problem.
Don't get me wrong.
That's a problem that he's been your best hitter for, you know, the last, you know, five months.
but it's also kind of true.
I mean, like, who's been consistently better than...
Most consistent header, I would say.
Yeah.
I mean, Cal Raleigh's fine.
By the way, Cal Raleigh, outside shot, he gets to 100 RBI.
So if you're looking for some kind of, you know, like personal thing there, there you go.
Outside chance Raleigh gets to 100 RBI.
And yeah, also I'd like to see Kirby and Gilbert, particularly Kirby, get his groove back.
Like, can we just see...
I just want to watch George Kirby pitch.
And for the last month, I felt like I've felt like I've been.
watching an imposter like I'm watching Emerson Hancock out there try and do like a George Kirby
cosplay like can I just see George Kirby pitch? I mean for the love of God.
Yeah, that's as much as as this fan base has just decided that they hate Luis Castillo now and
that he's actually a number four starter who's vastly overpaid. It's like he's been better than
George Kirby and yet nobody wants to talk about why Kirby's been bad for a month straight.
Like let's talk about it. Let's figure it out. Let's see good George Kirby.
Yeah.
You know, so there are some things.
On the rotation,
would you go to a six-man rotation or shut one of these guys down just to avoid injury?
I had this conversation last night.
I don't think you can shut guys down to avoid an injury if injury, like, threat isn't present.
Now, I understand that the thing is like, well, their pitchers are always likely to get hurt or whatever.
It's like, yeah.
But with Brian Wu, someone that you know is.
No, because I think there's value in building up Brian Wu's.
innings because again there's role you don't roll over innings into next year right you can't be like
oh we thought we was going to go 120 innings you only went 100 so that means next year we get 20
more innings out of him no actually probably 20 less because you have to build up his arm strength
same goes for miller same goes for gilbert and kirby and castile like and also you don't have
the arms to cover these innings like so well because again at this point you have nothing
to lose wouldn't this be maybe an opportunity to get like logan evans some major league
Sure. I am totally fine with that.
And if you want to go to a six-man rotation and you want to slide Evans in, that's fine.
But I think that you still want to get Wu like as many innings as you safely can this year.
Because right now he's on a roll.
He's not throwing a ton of stress pitches or anything like that.
If his arm is still feeling good.
And, you know, same with Miller.
Like if you can get Wu to 120 innings this year or whatever it is, I'm not quite sure what he's at right now.
But if you can get him to like 110.
then 120 innings.
The next year it might not be ridiculous to ask him to go 150.
Whereas if you shut him down right now at like 95 innings or whatever he's at,
then saying like, hey, yeah, you're going to go 160 next year.
We're going to bank on that.
That's a bit ridiculous.
That's a bit ridiculous of a jump, isn't it?
So like, I think actually when it comes to Wu and it comes to Miller, like the arms
that you're trying to protect, I think that them actually reaching like new heights
in terms of innings pitched is actually a good thing.
something you want to try and push for.
And, you know, if they, you know, feel some numbness in their finger or whatever or,
you know, they have a throwing session and they're a little bit sore the next day, like,
yeah, shut them down.
Absolutely.
But if they're healthy, like, put them out there.
And maybe, maybe you take them out a little bit earlier than you normally would.
You can certainly do things like that.
But to me, like, I'm not shutting down Brian Wu at 90 innings or whatever he's at because
I know, oh, I'm going to bank these 20 innings for next year.
No, you're not.
You're probably losing 20 innings off what Wu can give you.
So no, I'm not.
Now, side note, Munoz is feeling.
Yeah, I was about to mention that.
His elbow, shut him down.
There is no reason for him.
Like, nope, shut him down.
And again, if Miller or Gilbert or any of these guys like, oh, my elbow is a little sore, like, shut it down immediately.
There's no reason to push this.
But if they're healthy and by that we have no reason to suspect that Wu, Miller, Gilbert, Gilbert, Kirby,
cast none of these guys, zero reason to suspect they have any arm issues right now.
Yeah.
There's just no reason to shut them down.
Not this soon.
In the last week of the year, if you want to skip Gilbert's last start and give it to Evans or Hancock, then fine, whatever.
But you still have to get through this month.
And you still have a lot of young arms in that bullpen that, like, what, you're going to ask, you're going to ask Troy Taylor to go three innings.
So you can try and save, you know, Brian Wu.
Like, no, you're not.
So, yeah.
And then one other thing I'll be watching for the rest of this year.
Like Troy Taylor, slowly getting put into more and more high leverage spots.
Saw him last night in a high leverage spot.
It looked really good.
and immunios is going to go down
then why not give those opportunities
to Taylor see what he's got?
And then the one big
picture thing here
is what are they doing with Jerry
right? If they're going to fire Jerry
there's nothing you're going to learn about that
from watching the game. No no no no no no no no but
if they're going to fire Jerry they need to do it
now we you and I just talked about this before we have
record on this thing like
you got to give yourself as much time as possible to
go out and find his replacement and, you know, fill out the rest of your staff.
And let's be honest, you already know what you're doing with Jared.
Like John Stan.
Exactly.
Yeah.
So this isn't something that needs to linger into the off season because I, you know, I'll tell you this.
What I don't want here is you and I are getting on the show in mid-October and free agency is starting to, you know, creep up on us.
And we're still talking about, well, who's going to be the president of baseball?
operations who's going to be the GM who's going to be calling the shots right that's a problem so if
they're going to do it if they've arrived at that decision and again like we talked about on
monday there's nothing that can happen this month that's going to swing your decision you
already if if you're going to make the decision to fire you already have enough reason what
from what's happened the last five months to fire jerry like you were literally just wasting time
if you're just going to let it linger into the off season
Right. Either you fire Jerry now or you just announced that like we picked up his option. He's the president of baseball ops next year. You do that now. So like you said, so either Jerry, you know, is sitting in the ground running. And by the way, again, I honestly think they've already made that decision. I think they've already told Jerry and they were just kind of waiting for an appropriate time to dump the news. I think Jerry will be back. Now we'll see what, you know, Divish obviously did a podcast today. We'll see if he got, he has anything new to add.
But I do feel like he's going to be back to Potoh is going to be back.
And I still think it has a lot to do with Dan Wilson being named manager, not interim manager.
I think that was the clue.
But, you know, we'll see.
If you are going to fire him, do it now, you know, and start to put together your search committee or whatever and start to, you know, get names.
And that way you can hit the ground running when the regular season ends and you can get going in the offseason.
You got a lot of work to do this offseason.
And waiting around until January or February to start making moves is not going to be a viable strategy.
So yeah, whatever you're planning on doing, do it now.
Make the announcement now.
That way we can all move on and kind of start to set the stage for what's going to happen this offseason.
That's going to do it for our show.
Again, we'll be doing a postgame show tomorrow after the series finale between the M's and the A is Lamara's last game of the Oakland Coliseum ever.
