Starting point is 00:00:00 The Mariners have scored 41 runs in four games on this incredibly important road trip. And Julio got in on the action last night in a big way. We'll talk about that and more coming up here on the Lockdown Marriss podcast. Colby, hit it. You are Locked on Mariners. Your daily Seattle Mariners podcast. Starting point is 00:00:30 It is Tuesday, June 24th, 2025. This is Tadding Gonzalez and Colby Patnaud for the Lockhe on Marriss podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, or team every day. Starting point is 00:00:53 They hit four more home runs. They have 14 and four games on this road trip, which is insane. They've scored 41 runs in total, which is even more insane. We're going to talk about Julio. We'll talk about Cal. I might talk a little bit about the bullpen. Also a report about the Mariners and Raphael Devers a little later on. But let's start here, Colby, with Julio, who not once but twice actually pulled the ball in the air last night.
Starting point is 00:01:25 He smokes a ball off the facade of the second deck in left field for a two-run home run in the third inning. and then late in the game, able to play add-on, parks a ball, and the left center field gap for a two-run double. Yesterday, we got asked, are we seeing any positive signs
Starting point is 00:01:45 out of Julio this month? And we're like, not really. We mentioned, you know, how low the hard hit rate has been, how low the average launch angle has been. He only had three barrels
Starting point is 00:01:58 entering last night's game. But last night, for sure, some positive signs out of Julio Rodriguez. Yeah, you know, and it started a little bit in Chicago. You had eight or nine hard hit balls in that series. It's just everything was on the ground. And then that's a launch angle problem.
Starting point is 00:02:17 So, yeah, we started to see it a little bit. But last night, he was able to actually, you know, get the launch angle correct a couple times, get to his pole side. Julio can hit home runs out to right field. I mean, he can hit home runs to center field, but he's going to do most of his damage to the pole side, like most hitters will. So to see him, you know, get a couple pitches and, and, you know, pull them and, and drive them out to the gaps or over the fence is obviously a really good sign.
Starting point is 00:02:47 The home run he hit, too, was also on a pitch that was about knee high. It was a strike, but, I mean, it was, it was at the bottom of the zone. And so instead of just, you know, pounding that into the ground, he actually elevated it. He was able to lift it, and it flew, like the, the, the, While Julio has these weird power outages seemingly every year, it's not because of a lack of bat speed or it's not because of a lack of, you know, exit velo or anything like that. He can do that with the best of them.
Starting point is 00:03:15 It's all about the launch angle. And his launch angle has been too close to, you know, horizontal pretty much for the last month and really for most of the last year plus at this point. Like he needs to get the ball up in the air. And we talked about that. And when he gets the ball up in the air, pulse side, he has a real shot to do some serious damage.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I mean, you think about the outs that Julio makes. You know, usually they're ground balls or their, you know, soft fly balls into right field. Like, he actually doesn't make too many outs to the pulse.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Like, it's kind of hard to think about like, hey, when's the last time, Julio just flew out to left field. Like, when you think of the flyouts, even,
Starting point is 00:04:00 they're usually at a right field. field or he's grounding out. So to see him get to the pole side where you can do some real damage, get the ball elevated, it's certainly a good sign. It's only one game. You know, you have to do it more than once for it to be a trend or anything like that. But again, you had a, the ex of kilos were there this weekend. And then yesterday, he follows that up with a couple hits, a couple extra base hits,
Starting point is 00:04:23 including the home run. So, yeah, maybe things are starting to kind of blow in that direction. And this is the time of year. where Julio typically sees the power numbers surge anyway. So maybe we see that again, but you got to do it more than once before you want to buy in that Julio's figured something out here. But certainly yesterday was a good start.
Starting point is 00:04:45 And it'd be difficult today. Bailey over is a good pitcher who's been struggling recently. Chris Paddock carved you up last time he faced you. So it'll be a bit of a challenge for him today. But we'll see what he can do. And if you can continue, You just want to see pull. You just want to see him continue to, you know, hit the ball pole side.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Even if you see a couple of flyouts to the left fielder, that's probably a pretty good sign because he, he, when he's, you know, not driving the baseball, he's hitting a lot of soft stuff, you know, out into right field. And, you know, the ability to go opo is fine, but you have to go opposite field with some power, with some authority, get some hits that way for it to matter. otherwise you're just an easy out, you're an easy guy to pitch to. So yeah, the pole side stuff is great and hopefully we continue to see it tonight. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:05:36 I mean, that's when Julio's at his absolute best. Last night, the home run came on a change-up just outside of the bottom of the zone. And then the devil was also on a change-up on the outside part of the strike zone as well. So a couple of tough pitches
Starting point is 00:05:55 to do that kind of damage with as well. So that's really nice to see him being able to wrap around on both of those pitches and drive them out to left field. So, yeah, like you said, hopefully that continues. But Chris Paddock gave him a rough time, this whole lineup, a rough time last time they saw him. So we'll see if they can stay hot. Something kind of has to give here tonight. But Cal Raleigh hit his 32nd home run last night in garbage time because, of course, he did. That's now four games in a row that Cal has hit a home run.
Starting point is 00:06:27 that's the first time in his career that he's hit a home run in four consecutive games I mean he just keeps on producing like what else can you really say about Cal Raleigh at this point he's been incredible and continues to be incredible this road trip has been insane for him he just won a L player the week he's now just 0.8 for behind Aaron judge for the major league lead so he's kind of closed that gap judge has still been amazing But he hasn't been as good lately. So that's kind of helped things while Cal just continues to destroy baseballs. I don't really want to ask about the MVP stuff because, again, there's so much time left.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And even with the question I'm about to ask you, there's still so much time left. But right now, as you're watching Cal do this, how is this starting to kind of rank in the pantheon of just individual Mariners seasons for you right now? because like you know like 97 griffy 93 griffy 2001 each row 2004 each row like there's obviously been some amazing amazing seasons by merri's players in the past but what cal is doing i mean like every other day it seems like he's breaking a record or doing something that no other catcher no other switch hitter or just no other player in general has ever done before and he might continue to do that over the course of the year like we're we're we're Where does this kind of rank for you right now? Oh, probably the same place where Cal will finish in the MVP race second. Second, okay. What?
Starting point is 00:08:08 Now, like, for me, I've never seen a season like this. I know they've existed, obviously, the mid-90s. Griffey years were insane, mid-late 90s. Griffey was insane, a threat to challenge the home run record pretty much every year and came close a couple of times. and a lot of people think he would have done it in 94, if not for the strike. So, you know, it's, I just wasn't baseball conscious when Griffey was doing his thing in his prime. So I can't really count any of those seasons for me personally.
Starting point is 00:08:41 If you did get to see them, great. I'm happy for you. Yeah, I mean, like 2004, each year-o was really good. But it's just, I mean, it's a bunch of singles. And, you know, it wasn't like this kind of. impact that Cal is having right now. So yeah, probably 2004, Ichero is the closest thing.
Starting point is 00:09:02 And also that team was so bad that it was pretty easy to check out on them. And just, you know, it kind of diminished what Ichero did a little bit through no fault of his own. But that's probably the closest comp would be 2004 each year. It's a little similar to like Prime Felix a little bit where, unfortunately, We only got to see Felix once every five days.
Starting point is 00:09:28 We see Cal do this every day. But that prime run, those two or three years where Felix was, you know, arguably the best right-handed pitcher in all baseball, you just felt like every time he was out there, you were going to see something special. And so again, Cal does that pretty much every day, almost too much. Like find this guy some days off already.
Starting point is 00:09:48 But, yeah, I think the closest thing I've seen offensively at least is probably that, you know, it's probably that 2004 each year out season. It's, it's, it's kind of close to being like three full months of August 2023 Julio at this stage. Pretty close to that. So yeah, yeah, I think it's way up there. I can't compare it to the Griffey seasons. Obviously, those would be, you know, really tough to beat for anybody.
Starting point is 00:10:18 And then also A-Rod, young A-Rod, 96, 97, A-Rod had some really good years as well. but in terms of like my baseball consciousness like this is the most dominant offensive mariner's performance i can remember since 04 over the course of the whole season since oh four uh each year like in terms of just like one month like august julio might be the best player i've ever seen oh yeah yeah yeah like but it's been at the very least 21 years since we last saw mariners position player consistently play over the course of a season at an MVP caliber level. Yep.
Starting point is 00:10:57 And that's what we're seeing Cal Raleigh do right now. And whether or not he ends up completely closing the gap on Aaron Judge, that doesn't really matter to me right now. I just want to appreciate the greatness that we're seeing on a night-to-night basis from Cal Raleigh. I mean, it's just insane. I mean, like at this point, what else can you do but laugh every time he goes yard? Because it's just like, of course he did, right?
Starting point is 00:11:22 Like, there's just no stopping this guy right now. 32 home runs with what three weeks left until the all-star break is insane it's ridiculous i mean barry bonds has the record for most home runs before the all-star break at 39 like i don't think cow will get there but there's a non-zero chance maybe i mean like it's it's possible um it's not likely at all but it's certainly possible um yeah cow's been amazing I continue to wonder how long you can keep this up and catch with the workload that he has been catching. And I think, you know, as much as we like, oh, well, Judge will slow down, Judge will slow down. Cow is probably going to slow down.
Starting point is 00:12:08 I mean, like, Cal is playing a much more physically demanding spot than Judge. But, you know, every time we think like this is like Cal is starting to, you know, go through his little swoon, like a couple weeks ago, he had a really bad week. Yeah. And then this week he's hit five home runs. or five home runs of four games yeah and so you're just like oh well there you go so i again at some point you have to give this guy a day off and i mean full days off so i'm a little concerned about that uh as we you know stretch into the season but uh yeah as as far as the first you know i don't know how many games we're at now 78 games um as far as that goes you uh it's hard to
Starting point is 00:12:49 properly articulate just how good and how historic the uh the stretch that cows on right now is is like I don't know it's hard to put into context because we're not even talking about like best first half for a catcher ever we're talking about one of the best first halves at least in terms of home run hitting in the history of baseball so it really is something and and it's it's fun to watch certainly um you know and we'll just enjoy the ride and if it if he runs out of gas a little bit here uh over the next couple weeks or couple months fine whatever. It would be hard to blame him if he did. But for now, just really fun to watch. Yeah. I'm still pretty firm on my stance that the only way he wins the MVP is if Judge gets hurt.
Starting point is 00:13:36 But we'll see. We'll see. I mean, Cald, he's shown no signs of stopping so far. So maybe. I want to ask you about the bullpen here in just a moment. But first, a reminder of this episode of the lockdown, Ameris podcast is brought to you by Ruggiet. Oh yeah. All right, guys, you've heard of Viagra and Cialis, right? Maybe you've even tried them. Starting point is 00:15:11 36 hours. It's crazy. You're listening to the Locktime Mariner's podcast for instant reactions following every Mariners game. Be sure to tune into the Mariner's postcast with Anderson Hurst and Christopher Crawford available on both the Lockdown Marries YouTube and podcast feeds. Before we get back into our show, let's give you a quick little update on what we got going on with Feeding America.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Noah came through with a $29 donation, Justice, with a $51 donation in honor of Etro and Thomas with a $30 donation to bring us to a grand total of $6,406.406 raise. Thank you so much. Colby, spiel time. You guys know what it is by now. It's feeding America.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Their mission is to quite literally feed America. Great name, great concept, great idea. And it's a great organization because every dollar we raise, they turn into at least 10 meals for people who are facing food insecurity. And that is over 50 million Americans who don't know when or where their next meal is coming from. And that also includes one out of every five children. We have ridiculous amount of wealth in this country. We produce a ridiculous amount of food, and yet somehow we saw people who do not know where their next meal is coming from.
Starting point is 00:16:31 That is unacceptable. Feeding America aims to help with that problem. Again, every dollar we raise is at least 10 meals that they can give to people facing food insecurity. You know, it's a great cause. This isn't a left or a right issue. This is a humanitarian issue where people need food to survive and to function. And a lot of people don't have access to 50 million people in this country, including one out of every five children.
Starting point is 00:16:57 That is an insane number. And we can lower. We can help with that. So we're raising money with them. We did this couple of years ago. We raised $15,000. We have about two weeks now, three weeks now to try and get as much as we can. And we're off to a pretty solid start.
Starting point is 00:17:14 We've already blown by our goal. But I think we can do a little bit better. And so we're asking for more donations. If you guys already have donated or you want to donate but you can't right now, you can still help out by subscribing to this channel. Every new subscriber we get is 10 cents that goes to Feeding America. We're approaching about 200 new subscribers since we started this. So that would be 200 meals just from clicking a button that would be donated.
Starting point is 00:17:41 So again, it's a great organization. It's a great cause and it's worthy of your consideration. And hey, you know what? every time we have a pretty good donation day the mariners score 10 runs i i i don't i don't know i'm not saying they're necessarily connected but i we can't say they're not yeah we're also not not saying that so you know right i mean i don't know maybe cow raleigh reads our donation page and it's like oh they raised over a hundred bucks today i guess we'll just hit a home run like i don't know like it's possible is all i'm saying that that's happening
Starting point is 00:18:12 but uh yeah anyways thanks for everybody already has donated uh donated uh donated if you you have. Feel free to share the link. It would also help out a lot if we put this, if you guys put it out on your socials and shared it with your friend group and all that to see just how much money we can get to. It's been a lot of fun tracking this so far. We've got,
Starting point is 00:18:31 I'd say we're about halfway through our giveaway, which our giveaway, our fundraiser, which ends, you know, at the All-Star break. So we're about halfway through. We'll see what we can do.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Hopefully we can finish strong. Maybe push to 10K and beyond. But again, thank you to everybody. already has donated. Thank you to everybody who's planning to donate. Thank you to everybody who subscribed and shared the link and all that. And if you guys want to donate, the link is in the description down below of wherever you're listening or watching this podcast. Thank you guys so much. Let's keep it going. We still got a little ways to go before this thing
Starting point is 00:19:07 in. So let's see how far we can take it. All right. So Andreas Munoz has pitched once since June 9th. that that's a problem and i get like you're on the 17 game and and 17 day stretch you want to try and not burn munoz in a you know non high leverage situation if you don't have to because who knows maybe the next night i need them for a safe situation and now oh he's unavailable but or or to quote leo de rocher who knows maybe it rains tomorrow and i don't need anybody. Right. So on one hand, you're weighing that, but on the other, you kind of need Andres Munoz to pitch at some point here. He has to pitch more than a 15-day span. Yes. So, I mean, that's not even counting the strain that you're putting on everybody else. Because if you're
Starting point is 00:20:05 only going to use Munoz in safe situations in the ninth, like that's it. Yeah. We haven't had one in two weeks. So your eight-man bullpen has essentially been a seven-man. bullpen, but you're only willing to use Zach Pop and Trent Thornton in blowouts. I mean, probably rightfully so. So now your eight-man bullpen is down to five guys. But hold on, you really, and by you, I mean, Dan Wilson, really only trust Gabe Spire against lefties. Well, you can't always manage that.
Starting point is 00:20:34 So on any given night, half of your bullpen might not be available. Or it's not in the situations you want to use those guys. If you're very strict with your roles, half your bullpen isn't available on a any given night. And that's not counting the guys who pitched yesterday who aren't available. And oh, by the way, Matt Brash is still on some kind of a restriction. So what you end up with is you end up with the same three guys pitching seemingly every night. You end up with Legamino Vargas and Bizarro pitching pretty much every night. Bizarro, by the way, has appeared in seven of the last 10 Mariners games. That's insane. Like that, that is not sustainable whatsoever. That type of
Starting point is 00:21:10 usage is what put Matt Brash under the knife. Like, you can't do that. And right now, you can't can't really afford to lose a guy like bizardo. He's been very good this month. And Argus has been very good. And Legamina's been very good this month. But you can't just use those same three guys every single night. And then, you know, it doesn't help that your starters have only gone five now. We went six last night.
Starting point is 00:21:32 And so you only had to use two guys. So that helps. But, you know, in Chicago, all your guys went five or less. And then you had to use these guys. But you didn't use Munoz once. I mean, it's just wild. So, like, on any given night, depending on. the matchup and where you end up in the lineup at certain times.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Like Dan Wilson, because he's been so strict in his roles, has essentially created a bullpen where he probably has three guys that he's willing to use in these spots. And, you know, he's using all three of those guys heavily. And it's not sustainable. It's not like at some point,
Starting point is 00:22:06 you just have to use Munoz, even if the game's a blowout. You have to use them. Or you have to realize that, hey, you know what, this game might not have a save opportunity. So why would we just leave Munoz in for the ninth when the game might be decided here in the seventh? Like you have to use this.
Starting point is 00:22:21 This guy has gone seven days between appearances twice in two weeks. Do the math. Like you can't just sit in back there and be like, oh, well, we don't have a three run lead or less in the nine. So we can't use Munoz. It's insane. And you're doing it at the expense of Bizarro's arm, really is who you're doing it to. And Legamina and Vargas a little bit less. So it's nuts.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Like the bullpen usage, I get it. You don't want to burn, quote unquote, burn Munoz in a game that you have in hand. You'd rather burn Munoz in a game that you have in hand than lose one of your best relievers for the season because you just ran them into the ground. Like it's not sustainable the way they're managing this bullpen. They have to have a little bit more fluidity in the roles. And Dan Wilson has been stubbornly sticking to his, uh, his, you know, ideology for far too long at this stage. Like, Munoz needs to pitch tonight.
Starting point is 00:23:20 I don't care what the score is. He needs to pitch tonight. And you know what? He probably needs to pitch in the last game of this series, too. He needs to be out there, you know. And by the way, if you've pitched once in two weeks, you could probably go three days in a row. Like, it's just one of those things.
Starting point is 00:23:35 I get it. But the way to set up this 17-game stretch where you didn't have the situation where you might have to burn in a game that, you know, is won or lost already, is that you needed to use him in Chicago. You need to not wait until the night to see if you had a four-run lead and use them in Chicago, use them in against Cleveland, like regardless of the score. Like, dude needs to pitch.
Starting point is 00:24:00 And I don't care if it's, I don't, if it's 11 to 2, put him out there for a three-hitter minimum. And if he doesn't get all three guys out, then take him out. And if he throws 15 pitches, whatever, he'll be available tomorrow. But he got out there at the very least. Lunoz needs to pitch. Because right now, the way Dan is running his bullpen, in most situations, he's essentially cutting his bullpen in half on a nightly basis by not being willing to use guys in roles that aren't predetermined.
Starting point is 00:24:28 It's insane. So apparently the Mariners did have a conversation with Red Sox about Raphael Devers before he was traded to the San Francisco Giants. We'll talk about that in just a moment. But first, a reminder of this episode of the last. Lockdown errors podcast is brought to you by Monarch Money. And you're listening to the locked on mariner's podcast. So Bob Nightingale in his morning column today had a little blurb about the mariners. Well, actually it was more so about the Red Sox, but the Marys were mentioned in it saying, quote, the Red Sox say that they had
Starting point is 00:26:05 conversations with the Mariners, Cubs, Padres, Blue Jays, and Atlanta about Devers before dealing him to San Francisco. If the Giants had not agreed to assume the $254.5 million remaining in Devers's contract, Giants owner Greg Johnson says there would have been no trade. So, okay. The Bears apparently had a conversation with the Red Sox about Devers. Yeah, and clearly they weren't going to assume all the money. I think that is very, very, very, very, very safe to assume here.
Starting point is 00:26:43 So there you go. Conversation over whatever. We'll catch you guys tomorrow. Yeah, pretty much. I guess if they did explore it, they would have had to know like, okay, we have to take on at least,
Starting point is 00:26:58 you know, a good chunk of the money on Raphael Devers, right? It sounds to me like the primary goal of the Red Sox was to get rid of all that contract. I know, but for the Marin side of things, if you are talking to the Red Sox about Devers, going into that conversation,
Starting point is 00:27:15 you should know already, like, we're going to, if this is going to go any further, we're going to have to pick up, we're going to have to be willing to pick up at least most of the money, right? Yeah. And if,
Starting point is 00:27:29 and if you're not okay with that, you wouldn't even have the conversation, right? I don't think they really had a conversation. I think they got a cursory phone call. Gotcha. You think the red Sox called them. I think the red sox. Sox called them because I think what the Red Sox were hoping is let's get Luis Castillo
Starting point is 00:27:48 out of this. It'll give us a pitcher we need right now. It'll help the Mariners save the money this year like the money will be even and they get a bat that they need. And the problem with that is that the Mariners don't have the pitching to give right now. They don't. I mean, they're not going to trade Luis Castillo. They need Louise Castillo with Bryce Miller on the shelf, with George Kirby being, you know, as iffy as he is with Logan, you know, still. I don't want to say a ticking time bomb, but like, you know, you're still not out of the danger zone. I don't think yet with Logan.
Starting point is 00:28:19 And with Hancock and Evans being the other options there, like you can't trade Luis Castillo, not without getting a pitcher back or not without getting a pit, knowing that you're going to get a pitcher. And if they want to do that then, like if you had traded for Andrew Heaney and then you could trade Castillo for Devers, fine, I guess. Although trading for the Devers contract in and of itself
Starting point is 00:28:41 is a pretty big risk because he's essentially a DH only, first base only. Again, you probably live with his terrible third base defense for a couple years, but that's like what, eight years left on that deal, nine years left on that deal. That's a deal Jerry would never sign himself. That is a deal that the Mariners would never take on. And you add to the fact that they almost certainly were asked to give up Louise Castillo. And they would almost have to just to make the money make sense. Because as we know, Jerry and Justin are trying to make this thing work with one hand tie behind
Starting point is 00:29:11 their back by ownership. It's just, it's a non-starter. So my guess is the Red Sox called because we know that the Mariners and the Red Sox talked a lot this winter. And they probably were like, yeah, you know, we need you to take on most of the money. And then that was probably it. And even if it wasn't, when the Red Sox would be like, well, we think, you know, you take on Luis Castillo or you trade to Luis Castillo in this deal, a couple pretty decent prospects. And that'll even out the money for everybody, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:29:39 and at that point, you're out. Like, it just, I think this was more of a cursory, like, hey, we spent a lot of time talking to the Mariners this winter. We kind of know, you know, we kind of feel like we have a good understanding of them and a decent working relationship with these guys. Like, let's check with them. They definitely need a bat. And so why wouldn't we check? And they have a really deep farm system. So who knows, let's at least check.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I think that's more what this was than like any kind of. of serious conversation. I really doubt the Mariners spent more than five, ten minutes discussing this amongst themselves. The other thought that I had was that they're trying to get this out there to make it seem like they actually had
Starting point is 00:30:24 extensive talks with other teams. When it's been reported that basically the Red Sox and the Giants worked on this in the shadows. The Red Sox pretty much just approached the Giants about this. It was very like lucidantia to the Lakers
Starting point is 00:30:39 type of thing. And so they're negotiate with one team. Yeah, and they're trying to maybe sell this to their fan base, but it would be weird to try and do that in a little blurb at the very end of a column on USA Today.
Starting point is 00:30:52 So I don't know. I mean, yeah, but like Bob Nightingale is, is a shill. Like, let's be like, he'll put out whatever our team tells them.
Starting point is 00:31:00 If they're like, oh, you want some information, like even if it's very clearly like, uh, we just need to get guys off our back. And by the like, if you had a bidding war as you're trying to kind of,
Starting point is 00:31:09 kind of imply that you did. That's the best you could get still. Yeah. I mean, that's not that flattering of an image either. And the fact that the giants were like, yeah, we had to take on that entire contract or the trade wasn't going to happen. Kind of undercuts what the Red Sox are trying to put out there to their fan base, I guess. You know, at the end of the day, it's a salary dump trade. I'm not saying the Red Sox didn't get anything for Devers, but they didn't really get
Starting point is 00:31:38 anything that would force them to trade their best hitter. It wasn't like this trade is so good. We just had to say yes. That's not what happened. It's a salary dump. It was a, you know, get this guy out of our clubhouse type of thing. And, you know, keep in mind from a Mariners perspective, not only is the money probably, you know, not something that's remotely interesting to this ownership group. But also, you know, the Mariners, well, they claim to care a lot about clubhouse.
Starting point is 00:32:08 chemistry and, you know, the, the culture and all that. And you have a guy who's, I mean, at least being perceived as a malcontent and kind of outwardly supporting that with just how he spoke. And again, I'm not blaming Devers for that. I think it's just poor communication. But still, you know, and by the way, like, if you trade for Devers, you think he's going to be willing to, he's just going to be okay playing first base or DH for you. When Ben Williamson is your third baseman, absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:32:36 So there's just so many red flags here and so many things that just never made sense for the Mariners. I really think this was just a cursory like, hey, we're like, hey, we're trading Devers. We were thinking like Castillo and a couple of good prospects so that the money evens out. And you get the bat you need and we get the arm we need and blah, blah, blah. Plus you're the Red Sox. It's a lot easier to sell if you get like actually pretty good major league pitcher in your trade. And the Mariners just, they're not. going to do that. And honestly, again, I'm not mad at them for not doing that because that,
Starting point is 00:33:10 that is a very risky. This is the exact type of contract that, you know, Jerry has been programmed to avoid. It's not going to age well. You already have a guy who is a first base only guy. So yeah, you might get a couple years of really good value out of it, but that back end is going to be terrible. We think. And, you know, there's the the clubhouse issues, concerns, whatever you want to call them. And just ownership's cheapness in general. like there was no shot that Devers was ever going to be a Seattle manor zero all right that is going to do it for our show thank you so much for joining us here on the lockdown errors podcast for colby pat node i'm tiding azales be sure to give us a follow on twitter at l o underscore mariners you can follow me at cpat 11 that's cpat 1-1 we're also on blue sky you can follow me at TD g colby at melb colby in the show at locked on mariners you can also find us on instagram and ticot at lockdown mariners have yourself a beautiful baseball day and we'll see you next time Peace.
