And for just the second time since 2001, your Seattle Mariners are in the playoffs.
They beat the Rockies four to three last night to get it done.
We'll talk about Josh Naylor's big night, the celebration that ensued after.
And of course, what's the next as the Mariners looked to,
win the American League West tonight.
But a big three-run double in the left center field gap for Josh Naylor last night
sends the Mariners to the playoffs.
And Colby, you know, Nailers legend here in Seattle just continues to grow.
It's quite something.
It is.
It's pretty fitting, you know, that the Mariners big trade deadline acquisition,
or one of them is the guy who gets it done.
because, you know, where is this team without Josh Naylor?
What if they hadn't gone out there and gotten that done?
Would they be in this position?
Probably not.
I mean, you know, we know how disastrous the first base situation was for Seattle.
And so it's pretty fitting, you know, that Naylor gets it done for a couple reasons.
You know, one is that Naylor is a guy who very quickly has endeared himself to the
Mariners fan base even before, you know, this playoff clinching hit.
he's he's quickly become a fan favorite.
You know, there's nicknames and the,
the calls to resign him were already loud.
Now they're,
they're deafening and, you know,
people want to deal done and just not going to happen right now,
guys. There's no reason for Naylor to sign one.
You know, he's a month and a half away from free agency.
So, uh,
but yeah,
so, I mean,
that's fitting.
It's also fitting that, you know,
when you look around at the national media folks,
uh,
or the,
you know,
the people who cover other teams locally,
uh,
Chandler Rome, who covers the Astros, he's there, Ryan Divish.
You wrote an article today basically saying that, you know, the Mariners won this division at the trade deadline.
And what they did at the deadline where they were aggressive and they went out and they got difference makers and the Astros just kind of added on the fringes.
That was the difference.
And that's a big part of that.
And, you know, to go along with that, last night's fitting because Jerry Depoto and Justin Hollander took a lot of heat over the last couple of years.
most of it rightfully earned for not being able to build a team that can get this thing done.
And they went out at this deadline.
They weren't leading the division at the deadline.
It wasn't a, you know, in fact, until the Detroit series, some people are out here saying sell.
It's what's best for the team.
So I was talking about the Astros, of course.
Ah, okay, my bad.
You got to put the qualifier in there, Ty.
That way people know.
So yeah, you know, it's just one of those things where it wasn't a no-brainer to go out and get.
And so, you know, for Jerry and for Justin to go out there and, you know, go get the two big bats and go have one of the best deadlines and not perfect, obviously.
You know, you guys know, we wanted another pitcher.
But they, you know, really went out there for this team and they got them guys that have really helped them, you know, down the stretch here.
and for a duo that's taken a lot of heat whose jobs were literally on the line,
we think.
They put their money where their mouth was and they went out there and they got it done.
Oh, by the way, side note, this is an important today, but they did it without giving up anything.
So kudos to them on that front as well.
So, yeah, I mean, it really was a fitting end.
And for Josh Naylor to be the guy that gets it done after two hit by pitches and a walk.
I don't know. Feels right. Feels right. Feels right. And why would it be easy?
I mean, not even just from the Mariners perspective, but like it took until the bottom of the ninth inning for the Yankees to ever have a lead against the White Sox.
So like, yeah, it really is just a it's baseball man. It's baseball. But yeah, it, it ended well. And at the end of the day, that's really what counts.
But yeah, he's been a perfect fit.
it's like peanut butter and jelly like he is like he's brought something that that this team desperately
needed and that was a a screw you mentality they have a lot of different personalities on this roster
and they have a lot of guys that are you know highly competitive dudes and bring that fire and bring
the vibes and all that stuff but Josh obviously has that extra little edge to him that we all know
about from his days in Cleveland.
And he's definitely brought that here,
especially over the last few weeks.
You know, it definitely looked
like when he first came over, like he was trying to
kind of find his groove. He was trying to find
his place in all of this. And now
you're starting to really see that personality
come out. I think a big reason
for that as well is that we're just getting closer
and closer to October and you're playing in higher
and higher leverage games.
But he's brought a
real dog mentality
to this club that I just don't think they've really
had before he got here.
So it's just, what a perfect trade.
I think that might go down.
I mean, is it already in, you know, Jerry's top three, top five trades ever here in Seattle?
You know, probably a deeper debate to be had there, you know, after the season.
But, you know, certainly one of his best deadline deals.
Yeah.
You know, there's a bunch of things happening in the rebuild.
Yeah, it's in the discussion at the very least off the top of my head.
Yeah, it's probably at least top 10.
So in terms of deadline, it's probably, yeah, probably third.
I mean, in some order, it's probably Luis, Randy, and then Naylor.
So, yeah, it's certainly up there.
All right.
So let's talk about the celebration that ensued afterwards.
The quote unquote 50% celebration.
I'm scared to see what 100% is.
us tonight.
But we might very well find out.
But let's talk about the celebration,
all the stuff that we watched after the game was over in just a moment.
But first a reminder,
this episode of the Locktime Errors podcast is brought to you by both Ruggiette and game time.

When the Mariners clenched the ALS, could be tonight.
It could very well be tonight.
Pretty easily it could be tonight.
But if it's tomorrow, we will do a show after.
Didn't do one last night.
I wanted to chill and just watch the celebration all that good stuff.
And speaking of that celebration,
apparently it was 50%.
Yeah.
I wonder how they'll bounce back today.
Yeah, it was, I don't think that was 50%.
That was pretty good.
The only thing I could think of would be like to do more like on field celebrating for the 100% thing.
But I don't know.
That was, I mean, now look, to be fair, I don't have a lot of experience watching postseason
celebrations and whatnot.
So, you know, it's, it's, I don't have a lot to go on here.
But, uh, I mean, I would say that was about 60, 70% of, of the, the drought enter, uh, clinch.
So we'll see.
I mean, you got Cal, you know, grabbing the mic and looking dead in the camera and, you know,
saying what he said.
And, uh, yeah.
Yeah, you know, you got Julio grabbing a mic and, and trying to pump up the crowd.
And so yeah, I imagine it will be more of that, more of a, I guess, fan focus would be how they, like more of a public.
I don't know.
I don't know how they jump up another 50% over what they did last night.
And hopefully that happens today.
And hopefully it happens because you win, not because you sit around, you know, for 20, 30 minutes, scene of the Astros lose.
It was, it was certainly something last night.
And, you know, Mariner fans were feeling good afterwards.
And obviously, you know, the boys in the clubhouse were feeling good.
After where I don't think they probably feel all that great right now.
But, you know, maybe we'll have to wait and see.
But yeah, it was fun.
It was fun.
And hopefully those type of things become a lot more common.
I think we all thought we were going to see that happen again and again after 2022.
And it's just a good reminder that like, these things aren't guaranteed.
no matter how young you are, no matter how talented you are,
you still have to go out and you have to earn it.
And this team did and they celebrated appropriately last night.
And we'll see if they actually do have another gear for whenever they clinched the division.
But yeah, it's kind of hard for me to imagine that they can double what they did last night.
So yeah, it might have been a bit hyperbolic on the on the fellows.
We'd love to see them try.
I don't know if I would love to see them try to be honest with you.
But yeah, you know, obviously, again,
they earned it and they get to enjoy it.
And, you know, they have one more big celebration left.
And then probably a more of a, you know, smaller, hey, we clinched the two seed, like,
probably no champagne or anything like that.
But, you know, like a real.
Like a hell.
Yeah, we did it.
Boom.
We'll see you guys in a week.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's blah, blah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just one one big win left to get.
well, for your next, for what's next, one win left to get.
But yeah, it was, it was fun.
It was fun to watch a little bit.
I actually stuck around and watched a lot of the postgame interviews and all that stuff.
And, you know, we didn't get a Matthew Boyd moment, which is fair.
Yeah.
But, you know, it just, it's something.
When you're there at the drought ender, yeah, nothing's really going to live up to that.
But it wasn't from a lack of effort from the boys, I'll tell you that much.
they were they were getting after it in the clubhouse so uh good on them yeah and they've absolutely absolutely
deserve to have this moment and uh yeah i can't wait to see what the celebration looks like tonight
there's also this photo which is one of my favorites to come from last night's celebration it's
jerry depoto and jesson hollander looking like they're having the absolute time of their lives and
and to that i say good for them because you know they've got a lot of flack from you and i colby
especially over the last year, year and a half, what have you.
They've obviously caught a lot of flack from this fan base for basically as long as they've been here.
And in a lot of instances, rightfully so.
But, you know, for as long as the last couple of years have felt for us,
I bet the last couple of years have felt like an eternity for them.
But, you know, they did a great job at the trade deadline.
Now they see the fruits of their labor.
I mean, one of the guys that they, you know, just like we just talked about,
one of the guys that they went out and got just sent them to the playoffs so good for them good for
them but yeah you know you got chris had grown and p woodworth going out celebrating with fans you
got cal saying what he said to the fans last night might as well go win the whole freaking thing uh
yeah you got uh you know just the whole celebration in the clubhouse we've seen the videos of
uh the whole team singing mr rager by kutty and cuddy retweets it and talks about that which
is the craziest thing to me.
As someone who covers this team on a daily basis and has that guy's albums and has
very specifically right there, that album in the middle that has that song on it,
my favorite album of all time to see those guys singing that song and did see
Cuddy retweet that and show them some love.
It's the craziest thing to me.
It's the coolest thing ever.
But seriously, like I don't think there is a team that could be more for me than this one.
They love Cuddy.
A guy that is from the city that's literally 20 minutes away from me.
Just sent them to the playoffs.
You got the nailers sailors as well.
You will be hearing from my lawyer.
I'm kidding.
But yeah, like it's just.
Yeah.
It's perfect.
It's perfect for me personally.
So yeah, man, I just, I love this team.
Oh, God.
That was just so fun to watch.
so cool so sick um so yeah you know let's go win a division so let's talk about that a little bit more here
before we wrap things up maras can win the a l west for the first time since 2001 tonight with a win
over the rockies go over that in just a moment but first a reminder this episode of the locked on
marries podcast is brought to you by fanduel the NFL season is here and fandwell is making sure

Download the Fandual app now by visiting fanduel.com to get started.
That's fanduel.com to place your first $5 bet.
And you're listening to the Locktime Mariners podcast.
So for the first time since 2001,
for Seattle Marers are going to win the American League West.
It's just a matter of when,
not if at this point.
The Astros lost again last night,
along with Marys win.
So now the Marys are technically five games up on them with the tiebreaker.
The magic number to win the division is one.
So all they have to do tonight is beat the Rockies.
The Astros could also lose and you win the division that way.
That's lame.
So beat the Rockies.
Win it on your on your terms,
winning on your field and get to celebrate with these fans who
I've seen a lot of you comment and say,
I wasn't alive the last time.
The Mariners won the division.
So for a lot of Marys fans,
this is completely new territory.
So this is quite the moment.
And yeah,
you know,
the Marys will have a 25 minute head start on the Astros game.
so in theory they should be able to wrap up their game with the Rockies before the Astros finish
so there shouldn't be you know any threat of the Astros losing their game before you win yours
so first division title since 2001 they're right on the verge of it and again I don't know
what that celebration is going to look like if last night was 50% but you know I forgot to say
last night or you know you found yesterday
episode like if you're going to the game have fun have a great time celebrating all that also be
safe though make smart decisions tonight if they would yes remember uh the court doesn't care what
you were celebrating uh so yeah just keep that in mind let's all be safe and smart and responsible
uh but uh again hopefully uh the boys play a little better tonight they don't strike out 16 times
against the worst team we've ever seen,
the worst pitching staff we've ever seen.
And they, you know,
crews would be nice.
You know, a nice six to two win or something like that would be great.
Yeah.
And we can just kind of, you know,
count down the outs and all that and have a good time.
But yeah, it's the Mariners.
So it probably won't be that easy because it can't be,
apparently.
But, yeah, you're right where you need to be.
Like everything you need is,
right in front of you.
You're, what, two wins away from clinching that buy week.
So, like, I put this out there last night.
Just not quite sure we're understanding where the Mariners are at, you know, in the grand picture of things.
You're nine wins away from going to the World Series.
Two more regular season wins, get you to the ALDS.
You need three wins there.
Then you need four wins in the ALCS.
And you go to a place that nobody in this franchise has ever been.
So that's how close you are.
Nine wins.
Crazy.
Crazy to think about.
And it's crazy to think that we would be talking about that even three weeks ago.
Yeah.
Because this team has now one, what is it, 16 of 17, 15 of 16, whatever it is.
Yeah.
And they're going to have the easiest clench of a division of anyone in the Yale.
I mean, even the Blue Jays right now with, you know, how much they've kind of ran away with, you know, making the playoffs.
Like the Yankees are right on their tail to win that division.
You know, obviously the guardians and the tigers have their thing going on.
It's pretty crazy that, you know, probably tonight, the Mariners are going to have the easiest division win of anyone in the American League.
I couldn't have expected that three weeks ago.
I don't think anyone could have predicted that three weeks ago.
Right.
And I mean, when you kind of look at how the.
the playoff pictures forming right now across the league,
those wild card games,
those wild card series,
they're going to be battles,
because right now it would be Cleveland versus Detroit.
Yeah.
And Boston versus New York in the wild card round.
So,
you know,
a couple of division rivalries going at it.
New York and,
and Toronto might flip-flop.
I believe Toronto has the tiebreaker, though,
if I'm not mistaken.
I believe so, yes.
They're still in pretty good shape there.
And then Houston right now, they're a full game out without the tiebreakers on either Cleveland or Detroit.
So Houston's in real danger right now.
That's it.
You know, those are the seven teams.
Well, New York, Houston, or New York, Seattle, and Toronto have all clinched playoff spots.
So there's four teams right now fighting for the last three spots.
And we'll see how it goes.
And yeah, the Mariners right now, they're kind of not really in cruise.
control again they still need two regular season wins uh but uh that's all they need they don't need help
from anybody else it's all on them uh nine wins nine wins go to the world series yeah which is
crazy to think about because a month ago right now we were like i don't know is this team
going to blow it this team looks like they're they're on the precipice of blowing it and uh you know
even three weeks ago it it looked like they were on that that that path
The Royals might catch them.
The Rangers might catch them.
The Guardians might catch them.
Yes, the Astros might run away with this.
You might be five, six games back before you go down to Houston for that series and all that.
And then, you know, it's amazing what winning 15 of 16 or 16 of 17, whatever it is.
It's amazing what that'll do for your playoff odds.
Just ask the guardians.
So, yeah, it's one of those things where you got hot at the right time.
and the streakiest team I ever remember being a Mariners fan.
They caught fire at the right time.
And because of that, they're probably, I mean, basically winning their first division title in 24 years.
And they are, I mean, nobody's going to sit here and tell you the Mariners can't go to the World Series.
Nobody's going to sit here and tell you that the Mariners can't win the World Series.
Because they can absolutely do both of those things.
and they blocked up the first step to do it last night.
They can take the next step tonight and then one more win.
And they might be the favorites,
which is also terrifying for a different reason.
But even though they'd be the two seed,
they might be the favorites.
If you'd like FanGrafts odds,
they are the favorites,
not just to go to the World Series,
but to win the whole thing.
Well, I mean, a big reason for that is, again,
And, you know, I think if the Phillies were in the American League, they would probably have the highest odds.
It's just, you know, there's so many good teams in the National League.
They're all going to beat up on one another.
So their odds get lowered because of that.
I think it's also because the Mariners are likely going to have home field advantage, at least, you know, until they or unless they have to face the Blue Jays and the LCS, which means that, you know, the pitching is going to be in its most favorable spot.
They've proved that they can also hit in that ballpark.
I mean, they've been great at T-Mobile Park.
So, you know, again, you don't have to win a single game on the road in the DS in order to advance to the CS.
So, you know, and if the Blue Jays don't make it to the CS, you're going to have home field advantage in the CS as well.
Yeah.
I mean, that's the thing is that like, even if you are just the, even if you, you do have to go face the one seed, only one of those nine wins has to come on the road.
Yeah.
and look you know again it's it's very unlikely just because there's so little time left but
they are inching closer to the blue jays for that one seed they're two back in the standings
technically three back because of the tiebreaker low jays just lost the red so who knows
maybe that gets a little bit interesting and you just secure home field vantage home field advantage
throughout no matter what um but yeah most likely they're going to be the two seed and
It's very likely that they're going to have that wrapped up tomorrow so long as they just handle business against the worst team in baseball.
But, you know, even if they only win tonight, tomorrow they would only need the winner of tonight's game between the Guardians and the Tigers to lose tomorrow.
So whoever that is, you're not rooting for anyone in particular tonight in that series.
But yeah, whoever went.
So if the Guardians win, then you need the Guardians to lose tomorrow.
If the Tigers win, then you need the Tigers to lose tomorrow.
But you also don't need that to happen either.
You can just win the next two games and you have the buy.
Yeah, I guess we should mention because I don't think we've talked about this yet.
Brian Wu is not going to make his next start, which I think we all assumed was going to happen anyways.
They didn't rule out him making a start in the Dodgers series, but I think pretty
clearly the Mariners are open to have that, you know, that buy and have him ready to go for
hopefully game one.
They've said that they will, they don't need to put him on the I.O.
They're not, they're not considering that right now.
Obviously, you know, setbacks can happen.
Sometimes teams are a little optimistic at the beginning of an injury, blah, blah, blah.
But he talked about he's, you know, already responding well to the treatment and all that.
So, again, no Brian Wu, probably for the rest of the regular season.
Yeah.
So if you can get that by.
it really helps it's huge it's huge again that to me completely eliminates any other sort of
conversation we can have about getting the buy and any sort of negatives that are tied to that
like you need it you need it cow could use it Brian could obviously really use it and you
need Brian Wu Randy you could really use it yeah but like you need Brian Wu yeah I mean
Getting that by also is like winning two playoff games.
Yeah.
So, yeah, it's huge.
And, you know, the sentiment around the clubhouse last night was, yeah, I mean, we want that buy.
We want that, you know, ticket straight to the ALDS because, I mean, like, look, it's nine wins, but seven of those are playoff wins.
And those are the hardest wins to get by far.
So, you know, it's, it's.
Nine wins puts into perspective how close you are,
but they're going to be the hardest wins you could ever come by.
So, like, you're going to have to earn them.
And you're going to want your guys, you know, as healthy and as, as refreshed
and as motivated as they possibly can be.
So there's just no downside to securing that by.
And, you know, again, there are two wins away from doing that or, you know,
one win and some help.
Yeah.
