Well, that's another series loss in the Eastern Time Zone for the Mariners
as they're back to 500 for the billionth time this season.
Colby, hit it.

Ahoy, Sailors, it is Thursday, June 25th, 2026.
My name is Taday Gazzalus, and I'm joined as always by my co-coast, Colby Patnode.
This episode is brought to you by Fandul.

Only this team, man.
Only this 2026 Mariners Ball Club.
Only this team would walk six times and record 13 hard hit balls
and only score one run.
That's what happened this afternoon in Pittsburgh.
It's now been two weeks since the last time the Marys have scored four more runs in a game.
Yeah, I don't even really know what to say anymore about this club.
They're painfully mediocre and they suck to watch far more often than not.
They're really difficult to talk about too because like, you know, so much has obviously gone sideways.
The offense has been atrocious for the last two weeks.
the pitching staff
well you know
the numbers overall numbers are
really good for the pitching staff especially the
rotation the pitching staff has been
wildly inconsistent
there's obviously
the
lenience with some
players on the roster which I've had a
problem with and I've been very outspoken about that
guys are clearly
you know some guys on this roster
clearly playing through stuff
so on and
forth, right? And yet,
they're like only a couple of good days, not even a good week. They're only really
just a couple of good days away from being the second seat in the American League.
Yeah, the rest of the ALs is mediocre as the Mariners, which I guess is the silver
lining. I wouldn't say it's good news. You would, it'd be good news if you were
leaps and bounds better than the rest of these scrubs. But, you know, we're halfway through
the year, a little bit more now. So you are who you are. And,
And right now the Mariners are a 500 team, and we've seen them look like a 65 win team.
We've seen them look like a 95 win team.
All of that happening in the last month.
So it is just kind of an issue.
And for a while, it was easy to blame injuries.
And they were a real factor, of course.
But it's about as healthy as they've been in a long time right now.
And they still can't hit.
Like Brennan Donovan is not going to come in and provide four runs a game just with his presence alone.
So like, I mean, the injuries.
injury bug again it's not like they're 100% healthy there are so guys who are dinged up and and obviously things like that and guys who missed a couple weeks and so they're still kind of trying to find their time and all that they're still playing a role certainly in the bullpen but offensively this is about as good as the lineup as you're going to have you know throughout the course of the season and so there's really no excuse for it you know it is kind of interesting how different the conversation might be if a couple of baseballs were hit you know like a foot or two to the
right of where they actually ended up yesterday randy's home run or to the left rather yesterday's
randy's home home run two feet to the left they're up four to nothing in the first does that change
the entire game some probably somewhat i mean you just you had to know though that game was going to
be cursed as soon as you saw it all went like it's it's it's ashcraft who's been great this year
and yeah you know once once they only got one in that inning i think we all knew it was going to be a
tough journey after that.
But yeah, okay, fine.
You come in today.
You're facing a talented pitcher, but, you know,
not one that's especially dominating or anything like that.
And yeah, you had the bases loaded, what, three times in this game.
You had runners on first and third with nobody out in this game.
Like you said, they had 13 hard hit balls.
They had six walks.
Like they did a lot of things.
Yeah, they had legitimate traffic on the base pass, five of the nine innings, I
think.
Yeah.
they did a lot of things offensively very well today,
except for the one thing that matters,
which is touching home plate.
And that's kind of, you know,
the story of this game,
and it overshadows a pretty good Bryce Miller start.
Again,
really only made two mistakes,
and they just both happen to leave the yard.
So, yeah,
it is just kind of one of those games where it,
you could say, you know,
that's baseball a little bit,
like Colt Emerson with the bases loaded,
very hard hit, ground ball,
but right to the short spot.
That 105 off the bat.
Cole Young had the ball that if it was like two feet to the left probably is in the gap
and it's at least the game tied if not the go ahead double depending if it got by Mangum
or not.
So again, Julio got robbed of a base-it in this game too.
Yeah.
Like it is just one of those things where it's like, yeah, it's a bad bad bit luck.
Some of this is, that's just baseball.
But when you haven't scored more than three runs in 12 games in a row, none of that stuff
matters.
Like nobody's going to hear you when you say,
like, oh, well, the approach was good.
And, you know, we had a lot of bad luck today.
And, you know, it's not that those things aren't true.
It's just that nobody cares.
You haven't scored four runs in two weeks.
Yeah.
Like, that's the problem right now.
And I mean, thank goodness, Cole hit that home run after game one, or during game one,
because that's pretty much the only saving grace you had this entire series.
Well, that and the bullpen.
Well, how do you not done that?
They would have scored three runs and three games.
Yeah.
Without facing Paul Skeens, by the way.
You didn't even have that excuse.
So, yeah, I mean, the Ashcraft one, whatever, he's really good.
And you're going through a slump right now.
And yeah, okay, you lose that game, whatever.
It gets away from you.
Wu has another blowup start on the road.
That's a problem, by the way.
Fine, you know, okay, we can live with that.
But you come out today, you generate so much traffic.
You hit the ball all over the yard.
You blister the baseball today.
And you just end up with nothing to show for it.
the one run you scored was on like a 14 hop single up the middle from J.P. Crawford.
So just kind of one of those things, you know, Randy hasn't looked very good since he's returned.
How kind of in this thing where he's given you one good app at a night.
Yeah.
And, you know, if it happens to come in a big moment, great.
If it doesn't, pretty much going to waste it because Julio's had a really bad month.
Josh, I actually thought it looked pretty good in this series offensively.
So, you know, maybe that's a good sign.
Cole hit the ball really hard this series a lot.
Colt Emerson is struggling right now.
Luke really struggling.
Yeah.
Luke's struggling a bit right now.
So, you know, there's just a bunch of guys struggling at the moment, but it doesn't matter.
Again, if you haven't scored more than four runs or more than three runs in 12 games,
nobody cares about anything other than the run total.
how many runs did you score?
You don't get the benefit of the, you know,
well, the, the, the bat batts were good,
well, the, you know, the Babbat luck wasn't on her side or that's baseball.
Yeah, you get that when you won, you know, six out of ten and you have a chance to sweep and,
oh, you know, that sucks.
We just didn't go our way today.
It's just when you say that's just baseball game after game after game,
when a game like this happens where it actually is kind of,
that's just baseball.
Right.
Just falls on deaf ears.
Yeah.
nobody wants to hear it.
So like, look, games like yesterday, those happen throughout the year.
That doesn't mean it's excusable or anything, but they happen.
Like, teams get battered around.
They just don't have it one day.
The key is the next day you're supposed to go out there.
You're supposed to show some fire.
You're supposed to show some intensity.
And the Mariners really didn't.
They just kind of lay down and died.
They just couldn't get that big hit to really get them going today.
And so it is one of those things where it's like,
yeah like in in if we remove all the emotion from it we just look at this game analytically and it's like look this team probably should have had four five six runs in this game if bat bit block goes their way yeah but when you combine it with the other 11 games it's basically impossible and it's it's it's pointless for us to sit here and be like oh no no you guys you guys just relax like you know it's fine this is just a bad
bad luck game like you can't have two straight weeks of bad luck and continue to say like oh we just
had bad luck oh that's baseball nobody's going to buy it and nobody should either by the way all right
well we're going to dive into bryce miller start this afternoon 11 strikeouts for him made a couple
mistakes give up a couple home runs but overall pretty good day for bryce we'll dive into us

Running a business shouldn't feel like you're trying to connect a bunch of systems
that were never designed to work together.
One app for accounting, another for inventory, another for sales,

That's where Odu comes in.

From sales and accounting to inventory and marketing,
Everything works in one place, helping your team move faster, stay organized, and focus on growing the business instead of managing software.
The best organizations know that success isn't just about talent.
It's about having everyone working towards the same goal.
And that's true in sports just like it is in business.
You know, when we're talking about the Mariners, we talk about how they have the same philosophy at the majors as they do all the way down at the lower levels of the miners.
Even with all these different factions, the organization itself is one.
They have a vision.
they stick to it and last season showed us what's possible when everyone is working from the same
playbook.
Great organizations win because operations matter.

That's where Indeed, sponsored jobs comes in.
Indeed, sponsor jobs helps you.
you reach candidates who actually fit what you're looking for based on skills, experience,
and location. In sports, some of the best moves the organizations make aren't always the
splashiest ones. Sometimes it's finding the person who fits exactly what the team needs at the right
moment. That's what stood out to me here and it's the same idea behind Indeed sponsored jobs,
helping connect to organizations with candidates who are the right fit from the start.
Spend less time searching and more time actually interviewing candidates who check all your boxes.
Less stress, less time, more results.

in the description of this
episode. So Bryce Miller
needs 90 pitches to get through
five and two thirds in this one.
Gives up three earned runs on five hits.
All three of those runs coming on a couple
swings of the bat.
A solo home run by Brandon Lowe
in the first inning and a two-run shot from Henry Davis
and the third inning.
Outside of that, though,
Bryce Miller, really good once again on the bump for the Mariners.
Miller with 11 strikeouts, this one,
no walks, just three hard hit balls in total for the pirates against Bryce.
So what did you make of his day?
Statistically, his worst start of the year, I believe,
in terms of runs versus innings pitched,
and yet also maybe his best start of the year.
He had 19 whiffs today.
Eight of those whiffs came on the splitter, which was just devastating today.
He had a 50% whiff rate on the split today and a 46% called strike plus whiff on it.
He even threw four for strikes, which is the splitter is not a, you know, throw me for a strike pitch.
And he still got four called strikes on it.
Six of his 11 punchouts came on the splitter.
Like that was the pitch today.
But he also had a really good curve ball.
He had a 67% whiff rate on the curveball today.
He even got a couple of whiffs on the cutter.
The only pitch he didn't get a whiff on today was the sinker, which he apparently threw a couple times.
The velo was fine.
It was right in line with his average, so no extra velo there, although the new Bryce Miller Velo is just kind of normalized now.
So when he's throwing 97, 98, we don't really recognize it because that's what he's throwing all year.
But yeah, just really, really good.
Very fastball heavy the first time through the order and then very splitter heavy the rest of the game.
So, again, we kind of have seen this.
The Mariners, George Kirby was very fastball heavy the first time through the lineup the other night.
And then he was very, and he became very sweeper heavy was his go-to pitch that night.
So, you know, it's probably a game plan thing against the pirates.
I don't really know for sure.
We'll see what they do in Cleveland.
but I thought Bryce was very, very good today.
Again, just a couple of the mistakes.
And unfortunately, you're a starting pitcher for the Mariners these last couple weeks.
You only get to make one mistake.
You have a chance to win the game.
And unfortunately, Bryce made a mistake in the first inning of today's game.
And, you know, I not very jokingly said, like, it sucks that after that,
every hitter represents the game-winning run for the next nine innings.
And what do you know?
It did because the Mariners only scored one run.
So, yeah, just another wasted start by Bryce.
who's been very, very good this year.
If he hadn't gotten hurt, he, I mean, heck, if he had done this all year,
like if you didn't miss the first month or whatever the season, two months,
whatever it was, like probably in line to start the All-Star game.
That's how good he's been this year.
So unfortunately, he's just not going to rack up the endings to make the All-Star team,
but the Mariners were going to have, you know, if the Marys only had,
only got one representative, it's between Bryce and Randy, I would think, at this point.
But we'll see how it all goes.
But Bryce was very, very good.
Again, really, he's looked better than ever since that very first outing against, what was it, Houston when he returned.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And that was, he was fine that day, but he's been turning into another gear since.
And the fastball, Velo has normalized.
He's now sitting 97.
The split is great.
He's got six different pitches he can throw at you.
And obviously, he's still going to try and dominate with the foul.
But he's willing to throw all the other pitches at any count and he feels pretty comfortable throwing them for strikes.
So yeah, Bryce is on another level right now.
He's kind of ascended very much, very similar to the way Brian Wu did last year.
So it'd be nice if you could have gotten 2025 Wu from, you know, also Brian Wu.
But getting in it from Bryce Miller is pretty good.
Has every run that Miller's given up this year come from the home rumble?
he's given up 10 earn runs
and he's given up seven home runs
this year
I don't recall him giving up a run
that wasn't on a home run
yeah same
it's kind of crazy
to think about
yeah so Bryce now through 45
and two third settings this year
197 ERA
306 FIP
257 X FIP
1064 Ks per 9
walks per 9 of 099
and just 54 strikeouts to five walks.
So some Sy Young numbers right there.
That's a Sy Young candidate.
Like he's like, yeah, he doesn't have the Indians for it,
but like that, those are early Cy Young favorite numbers.
Like if he started the year healthy.
Yep.
I mean, awesome.
I hope the Mariners don't waste it.
And I hope Bryce can continue to produce like this.
And, you know, it's one of those things like we know Bryce is very good.
And we know why did he struggle last year?
It was so obvious.
It was the injuries.
And he's healthy this year.
And he's taking a step forward that maybe he would have taken last year if he was healthy.
So maybe things just got delayed by year.
But I think people forget how good he was in 2024, where he was arguably your most consistent pitcher that year.
And now this year he's certainly your most consistent pitcher.
And he's also been just dominant.
since his return. So yeah, Bryce, awesome. Obviously, you know, we love Bryce. He's a silly goose,
but he is a very, very good starting pitcher. And we're seeing it play out here. And maybe next time
they'll give him a run or two, more than a run or two. And he can kind of cruise and maybe
they'll stop messing around with the piggyback in him. But the Mariners make a tough roster decision.
No, never.
They need to make some roster decisions, though.
I think we've seen enough of Alex Hoppy, personally.
Yeah, Hoppy comes into this game, gives up a couple runs in the bottom of the 8th,
which completely puts the game out of reach for the Mariners.
I thought I was really that diluted into thinking they were scoring two plus runs.
No, but.
It's done at that point.
Like, it's the white flag.
I get, you know, you use Spire, use Bizarro the end of before,
for, but like, Bizarro can't go to, you know, for rare.
You don't want him to go after a day off.
Like, you see if he can, in a pretty low leveraged spot, too, put Ferrer out there.
See if you can find that slider.
Set himself up for some success in Cleveland.
But, yeah, that was bad.
The Rob Ruff Snyder decision, like, you let him hit in the sixth against the lefty.
No Montgomery is a different, you know, beast than Evan Sisk, who's also been very good, by the
way.
But, like, Rob is the last guy on the bench you want to use in that spot.
He's that bad.
You'd rather use Wilson.
You'd rather use Robles.
You'd rather use Canzone.
And Dan Wilson apparently is the only one that disagrees.
Or, well, whoever's part of the mayor's decision making process also disagreed.
So, yeah.
Yeah.
Rob, he's worthless.
Like, great dude.
But on the field, he's worthless.
And you can't keep carrying that guy.
on the roster you just can't i'm sorry like it's well past time you gave him every opportunity to
succeed there's no reason for him to be on this roster none yeah yeah so well you know and i
think that you know if he didn't use him there in the what was it the seventh faith but um
if he didn't use him yeah if he didn't use him there then at that point it's like okay then why is he
on the roster right well you did use them there and it's the same result why is he on the roster
So, you know, with, it's just there's, there's no like rationale to put them, leave them on the roster because it's not even like, well, you know, we're so banged up. We need the extra outfielder. Nope. Nope. Nope. You have five outfielders now. Like, you need the right-handed bat off the bench. Well, you have Weston Wilson now. You have Victor Robles now.
Yeah. I mean, there's just, there's no, there's no justification at this point.
Yeah, I mean, like, you know, I feel bad for piling on because at this point, it's not even Rob's fault.
It's the Mariners for just continuing to roster him and continuing to put him out there.
But, yeah, there's been 84 position players in the Jerry Depoto era that have received at least 100 played appearances.
And Rob Ruff Snyder entering today, and the numbers are even worse now after the bet that he had in the 7th.
worst hitter in the Jerry Depoto era with at least 100 played appearances
negative 0.1 more he's the only
Marin's position player with a Lisa 100 played appearances
in the depoto era that has reached a negative
a full negative win he's also the worst hitter in terms of
wRC plus 20 WRC plus into today and that has now
gone down to 27 I just I don't get
why if you really want to hold on to the hope that he can hit lefties at some point this year,
why not just put him on the IL with his knee thing and then sent him on a rehab assignment
after the stint is over and treat that like a demotion and see where he's at in July.
I don't understand why they won't do that at the very least.
Yeah.
And again, it's not a small sample size anymore relative to his role.
He's had over half of the plate appearances that he had.
last year with the Red Sox.
And yeah, I mean, again, we're at a point now where he is worse than Colton Wong.
He is worse than Andrew Romano.
I'm just looking at the guys that he's directly behind here on this list.
Worse than Andrew Romine.
Worse than A.J. Pollock.
Worse than Evan White.
Worse than Donovan Walt.
Worse than Taylor Modder.
David Freitas.
Jake Bowers.
Some good players in there, but okay.
yeah yeah it's it's not good like it's time it's it wasn't a small sample size by the way you know
like a month ago when he had 70 played appearances like Jose marmaloos was a 50% better hitter than
rob roughsiter YouTube player of the game two time two players the game Jose marmalios
Chris Ioneta over 50% or exactly 50% better than rob roughs like come on I think it's
It's like, oh, well, what if so and so comes up?
And he's only like, what if he's bad against lefties too?
It's like, you realize if the Mariners called up Patrick Wisdom, right, or whoever, right?
And they had a 70 WRC plus against left-handed pitching.
That would still be a 45% upgrade over Rob Reff Snyder.
Dude, even even with the redundancy of Canzon and Rayleigh on the roster,
I would rather have a left-handed hitting outfielder.
another one on the roster
than the roughsnet
because now it's at the point
and again I really hate
just piling on the guy
but it's at the point now where it's just like
hey do you do anything well anything
you're probably more valuable
than Rob Rough Snyder
yeah like if you do anything well
if you run the basis well
you're probably more valuable on this roster
than Robb Ruff Snyder
like I'd rather see
Spencer Packard on this roster
I'd rather see Victor LaBrata on this roster
I'd rather see Patrick
wisdom on this, you know, even with all of Connor Joe's issues, I'd probably rather see
Connor Joe on this roster than Rob Ruff Center.
Brian Bliss, Brock Rodden, like, name your guy.
Like, yeah, again, it sucks.
I really wish Rob would have worked out.
Seems like just an absolute great dude.
And as frustrated as we are, I guarantee you he's way more upset with himself.
But this is the business, man.
It's a hard business.
And, you know, you have to make decisions that aren't.
aren't personally easy to make, but that's why you get paid the money to make those decisions.
And it is long past time for the marriage to say goodbye to Rob Reff Snyder, wish him luck.
And maybe that's the end of his career.
And it's a sucky way to go out.
But I have to win.
Like I'm trying to win the American League West.
I'm trying to go to the World Series this year.
And you're actively preventing me.
And, you know, DFA and Rob Ref Snyder won't solve the Mariners problems at all.
No.
At all.
But it's about accountability at this point.
And it's about starting to make the small changes that you can make to maximize the roster
