Flatt playing cornerback for your New England

setting the edge? Pats fans,

BetOnline has you covered this season with more props, more odds, and more lines than ever before.
BetOnline, where the game starts. Pats fans, we are less than two weeks away from the 2022 NFL Draft in illustrious Las Vegas, Nevada.
And of course, because there's less than two weeks left, that means only two.
Count them up, folks.
Two more Mock Draft Mondays where my good friend and I use the draft as a muse we don't mock it we don't make fun
of it yes mock draft is a nice little moniker but we use your drafts as muse for our show today and
of course i am joined by my good friend the legendary count of murphy pisto himself thomas
murphy of e2g sports.com Thank you for coming to me in friendship.
Thank you for joining me today, Don Murph.
Always my pleasure, bud.
Always my pleasure.
I was up early today drinking a little V8 and just getting ready for the show, man.
Let's kick it off.
Absolutely.
Let's kick it off.
And you know, Murph, it's always an honor.
It's always a pleasure to join you here on the microphone each and every Monday for Mock Draft Monday,
for Locked On Murph Monday, for Musing the Draft Monday.
We always have a lot of fun.
We make Mondays fun here on Locked On Patriots.
Today's a special Monday in New England.
We want to wish Happy Patriots Day to all of our listeners out there.
We want to wish a happy Marathon Monday as well.
Of course, Marathon Monday is a special day for New Englanders.
Unfortunately, Paul is somewhat cast on Marathon Monday now from here on in.
And the tragedy that happened years ago, of course, you know, our condolences always go out to the victims, you know, their families.
And, you know, we'll always remember them in our hearts and we'll always be eternally grateful for the sacrifices
that so many made that day to try to keep people healthy, keep people alive, and keep people safe.
And it was a tough day for New Englanders, but it's good to see the marathon back in existence.
It's good to see it back on Patriots Day. Special shout out to our good mutual friend, Bob Sose, who is running today.
Stay safe, Bob.
Go, Bob.
We love you.
We hope that you enjoy the experience.
Of course, be remiss if we didn't mention Teddy's team, the great Teddy Bruschi, and
all the work that he does for the Boston Marathon.
A lot of Patriots connections, a lot of Red Sox connections, Bruins, Celtics.
New England is a great place. And Murph, you know, if we had a
New England Hall of Fame, I will be very honest with you. You are getting my vote, my friend.
And hopefully I'd be able to maybe get, maybe I'd be able to get that type of luxury and honor
to be able to give you an induction speech at one point. But I truly mean that.
I didn't kick you. one point but i truly mean that uh and uh well i but no all kidding aside i really do enjoy uh the
work that we're able to do here on lockdown patriots each and every monday and but you know
what the draft is the story today so we're just going to dive right into it we're going to get
right into the draft and we're going to start with welcoming back an old friend.
Really, it really is.
Who would have thought we need you right here where we need you, Andrew?
Andrew got that.
I know you got that.
Most of our listeners probably didn't get that, but just Google Barbarino.
You'll thank me later.
Andrew Carraway at Carraway6 is back submitting locked- mock drafts. And, uh, this one was an interesting one.
Murph, he starts off trading down, um, way down and yeah, way down.
Exactly.
Uh, trading into the second round, trading out of the first, which, you know, Bill Belichick
has these done before.
I think, I think the pension.
Yeah. I think the pension that he's had is really, I think,
a little bit more exaggerated by the media than anything else.
It's not like Bill does this every single year,
but this is a year where things could get interesting.
The Patriots have a lot of holes, a lot of, you know,
there's a lot of talent at the areas where they're pretty deficient, where they really need to fill these holes.
So the Patriots don't necessarily need to swing for the fences
in that home run hitter first round.
Andrew does this off the bat.
He trades the number 21 pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tony Wiggins, I know you're going to be listening to this,
and you might be interested.
Round two, pick 33, the Patriots get back.
They get back the 65th pick in round three and also a
number 106 in the fourth round so turning two turning one into three very easter-esque you
know kind of turning water into wine here or the other way around you know it's um depending on
your your uh your perspective obviously the patriots in the first pick in the second round, number 33,
they're newly acquired. They go with Zion Johnson. Now, Murph, I know you've been on the fence about
Zion a little bit in terms of first round grading, but if Andrew pulls off this trade or if the
Patriots, I should say, pull off this trade, is this a little bit more palatable to you to use
a second round pick, bring in someone like Zion? Without a doubt. My only issue with him has been
folks grabbing him at 22 when there is talent to be had there at positions that the Patriots
really need to address. But he's done this in a very smart way, a very Belichickian way. I have no issue whatsoever with taking him, Zion Johnson,
the BC kid, the guard extraordinaire. I actually, I think he's the best guard in this freaking draft.
So no, I have no problem with him grabbing Zion at number 33. I'm really not sure what the
algorithm is thinking here, giving it a b minus this is an
a plus move yeah absolutely and look whether you think that zion has a first round grade on him and
look for all of you out there that are probably screaming at your devices listening to this saying
yes he does there are plenty of people out there that believe that he would be a good first round
pick i'll be honest i'm actually one of them I wouldn't be devastated if the Patriots did that but to utilize your type of capital and it's right down and not only be able to get Zion in this
first in the with your first pick in the second round at number 33 but then also turn those two
picks into interesting picks we're going to get into that in just a moment as well uh it really
does uh you know give a lot of uh you know credence to what Andrew did here.
So that's why we're starting off with this pick right off the bat.
Great stuff by our guy, Andrew Carraway.
Of course, we talked a lot about Christian Harris,
the linebacker coming in at number 54 in the second round.
That pick, you know, really, I think.
Another home run.
Absolutely.
I mean, you look at someone that comes in, obviously, Alabama comes in patriot ready right off the bat.
But the explosiveness, the ability that he has, I think, really sets Harris apart.
If you can snag him in the second round, you're doing something great.
Keeps the Alabama flavor.
This had to be painful for Ruffin Andrew.
I know it did because you don't see a lot
of that Georgia logo right there in what he's doing. John Mechie coming over 65. That was the
pick, one of the picks that he acquired. So you're already turning the 21st pick into Zion Johnson
and John Mechie. Patriots fans would be backflipping if this happens in a couple of weeks number 85 round three uh this was a pick that
uh the uh the patriots had and they still have this is a pick that really kind of caught my eye
because i've been doing a little bit more recon on uh this kid especially when the patriots had
him in for a top 30 visit and that's marcus jones coming out of of Houston. Not a great amount of size.
That may deter some teams from pulling the trigger on him,
but this is an elite speed-type athlete.
He's got great returnability.
The more I'm watching Marcus Jones,
the more I'm thinking he's that type of Patriots talent that might intrigue Bill Belichick because he's versatile
and you can plug him in all over
the place. I think he's going to project better in the slot, but I think this could be interesting.
Yeah, definitely an interesting pick right here. This kid is the fastest DB in the entire draft.
He is a little on the slight side, and I think he would have a bit of a problem in press man coverage,
but his make-up speed is just so unbelievable that he'd be able to come in here
and I think contribute year one.
I thought it was a little early here in the third round for him,
but what are you going to do?
When you see a talent that you like and that you actually fixate on
um you you tend to want to grab him before somebody else does and uh so no andrew just
another fantastic grab here definitely a c plus b b grab um i like it he's going to contribute on special teams um so sure let's go let's go for it yeah
absolutely and i think you know jones is starting to elevate toward uh i don't want to say you know
early round status in a lot of draft boards right now but he's becoming mid-round solid
mid-round talent maybe like late day two uh type and so i can understand where maybe uh andrew is coming
from on here snag him while you've got the chance because if you're gonna wait and try to get him
with 106 that could be a pretty big gap there from 85 to 106. so i like that uh at number 106
he takes a guy that you and i are liking an awful lot. We talked about him here. We talked about him. Thank you. Exactly. I mean, just, you know.
I don't understand, you know, these grades that they hand out with the draft
to give this a D minus.
Chris Paul at 106 is just, you know, I think an amazing grab.
I thought it was probably one of the better moves after 100?
Hell yes, give it to me.
Give it to me.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, I'm really kind of surprised at the level of vitriol
that the algorithms throw at this kid.
I think he's a great fit.
He's a versatile fit, someone that can really come in
and add true depth to that offensive line.
I love Paul, and I think that we've talked about him several times.
If he's one of the names that the Patriots are walking away with
at the end of draft weekend in a couple of weeks,
it's going to be clear that they did their homework.
I think this kid does project well, especially in the Patriots system.
Of course, you've got some fan favorites thrown in here.
Jack Jones from Arizona State.
He was another top 30 visit uh the new england patriots
versatile defensive back uh really uh you gotta you know you got the jones boys in the back uh
you know not to mention jonathan as well so they're gonna have to the uniform makers are
gonna have to sew in a lot of initials on these a lot of initials this comes down um you know but
really i think uh just just good good stuff uh here Matt Ariza, he has coming over as the new punter.
We talked about that here.
Even Miguel and I talked about that a little bit.
Round five.
The Easter weekend.
Love the round five kickers.
Absolutely.
And Bill Belichick, he did it before a couple of years ago.
What makes you think he won't do it again?
Murph, overall, I thought this was a solid draft.
I like this a little bit better than our algorithm
friends there uh that are doing the computing uh i thought this was a solid b plus with an a
with an a minus rising uh really good stuff out of andrew carraway and and what do you expect it's
always good stuff when andrew andrew is just you know an amazing uh evaluator of talent. He's, he's embedded deeply down there in the SEC and everything that's going
on. I was, I was shocked that, that nobody from Georgia made this draft. Yeah. I was going to say,
you know, that's gotta be, he's got a couple of Alabama guys going really high up here. That had
to be painful for him. But all getting aside, you know. Andrew does great work. Andrew, thank you once again for the great pick and the great mock draft that you submitted.
And Murph, the best part of this is we are only scratching the surface.
Some interesting picks coming up, including a late round.
Some people would even consider him an off-the-board to begin the draft prospect, a cornerback that's making a steady rise.
Murph and I are going to discuss that in just a moment here on hashtag LockedOnMurphMonday.

Always a lot of fun, Murph.
Not to brag last year, but I correctly indicated
that the New England Patriots would stand pat at number 15 and
they would get their man in mac jones and came into fruition it happened they didn't have to trade up
san francisco passed on him once again and uh much like uh bill belichick did i laid in the
weeds trying to get the guy that i knew that the patriots were going to covet and i think it worked
out pretty well despite of what they'll tell you in Western New York.
But it is fun.
The casuals up in Western New York.
Yeah, absolutely.
I think it's like a do-over.
Yeah, I think, you know, as Michael Corleone would say, never hate your enemies.
It clouds your judgment.
Well, I think there's some judgment clouding going on up there.
I think it's wing sauce, to be totally honest with you.
But you know what?
Bottom line, let's get down to business.
And that is Mock Draft Monday business.
It is hashtag Locked on Murph Monday, folks.
But most importantly, it is Muse the Draft Monday here on Locked on Patriots
because Murph and I do not make fun of the draft.
We muse it.
It is our muse for you today.
And we broke down a great draft to open up the segment here today from Andrew Carraway.
I'm going to go with another Andrew at this point, and that is Andrew Burgess.
Andrew, we want to thank you for being a first time submitter.
I know he's been submitting some drafts lately.
We thank you for your patience and for being a big supporter of Locked On Patriots.
I'm so glad that this is the one that we were able to put out there
because I think he did a great job here in terms of being able to bring in some talent.
Standing pat at the number 21 pick, Jordan Davis.
Yeah, thank you.
Obviously, Murph, I mean, this is the guy that you want.
If he's there at 21, I think Bill Belichick himself runs to the podium.
Maybe he sends Nike because he's a little faster at this point to carry the draft
card. Bottom line,
this kid is really the total package.
He is. He's the real deal.
Do the Patriots have a legitimate shot to get him in number 21?
This is Fantasyland. legitimate shot to get him in number 21 or is this a guy that you know this is this is this is
fantasy land this is you know i i understand where our man is coming from here how do you pass on him
at 21 there's no way that he makes it there there's no way that he makes it past 13 15 in
this draft you will have to trade up to get a monster of this kind of midway. It is, it is, I would, I would not care what, except, you know, getting
Mechie in here, I would not care one, one bit if they punted the rest of
the draft, it would be, be a home run right here at this pick at 21, if
they were able to grab him.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, you know, the versatility, the, atility the just i mean the speed for a guy
his size you want to talk about an anchor and you want to talk about a beast on that defensive line
you know bill belichick loves those guys and jordan davis to me would be such a phenomenal
fit here in new england again folks a little bit of a stretch but andrew that does not preclude us
from giving you high draft grades here because for you to hop on this and not take the bait and say, you know what, they still need a corner.
They need this.
They need a wide out.
For you to have the patience and say, you know what, 20 other teams were stupid enough not to take this guy.
I'm taking him.
So high marks right there.
Definitely an A-plus for this pick, no question about it.
Definitely, definitely went, you know, looking up and down his draft,
he went best available players at the position.
And unfortunately, right now, what the Patriots are looking at,
at their roster, best available player would fit any need.
Yeah, absolutely.
It really would.
It really and really would.
It really and truly would.
And that's something that I think he did a great job of being able to utilize.
And guys that, believe it or not, folks, can fit the Patriots mode.
Leo Chanel, I know some people are saying that maybe he's not the type of linebacker that the Patriots may want, but Leo's definitely a solid player, did a great job for the Wisconsin
Badgers last year. You know, it's, it's good to see him, you know, be in this type of situation, round two,
54th pick. Number 54. Oh my God. It's, it's, you know, please let, let this draft happen for me.
Let this draft happen for me. Yeah. One of the picks here, Murph, and we're going to put all
these picks out folks, so you can take a look at them you have my word we will do that this week um one of the picks that
stood out to me because I'm starting to see this kid kind of work his way up the uh the the draft
boards and I'm seeing him show up on a lot of Patriots mock drafts lately and that is Cordell
Flott out of LSU uh the young cornerback that to me, I think really, you know, there's something to bite onto here.
I'll be very honest with you.
I really wasn't enamored with this kid when he first came out of or when I first started to look at potential Patriots fits.
But the more I'm looking at him, the more I think this is an interesting pick.
Now, folks, this is not J Jackson 2.0. He's not going to come in here and automatically be that perimeter man coverage
corner that you want to see, but I love the kid's speed. He's got great length. This is one of those
things you're worried about someone getting beat or keeping you within an arm shot. That's not
going to happen to Cordell Flott. He's got great length, and I'd like to see him maybe put on a
little bit in terms of stacking up to really, know i think maybe be a little bit formidable to some of
these uh you know wide receivers that he'd be matching up against but if he grows into his frame
i think he's someone that you know he can he's he's a hard worker i really the film that i've
seen on him he plays from from the first whistle to end, and he doesn't let up in his abilities.
I very seldom see him get an opportunity to really kind of dog it, for lack of a better term.
I know I'm fumbling for a word there, but that really, I haven't seen him dog it at all.
I like the kid's back pedal.
I really do.
I like the way he's able to keep his eye on the passer.
The one area that I think maybe he's fallen a little bit
or maybe why he's not more highly touted is this kid can easily get –
I don't want to say easily.
I shouldn't say that.
But he has a tendency to be able to be faked out at the route.
Yeah, he bites.
He bites on routes a bit too much.
He's definitely a developmental player
in my mind i think i think the fourth round is a bit too early for him i think the patriots could
do uh damage in a different way at this spot i'm i'm not getting on anybody for for making this
pick it it's just it's not the direction i would go there yeah absolutely and you know i and again
andrew i really i love the uh the ingenuity and i think that uh you know someone like cordell is
like merced a developmental type of talent and he could blossom into it because the the desire
is there right uh the physical work ethic is there exactly, the work ethic. That's extremely important.
You know, he's got everything.
He's a great kid.
It's just I don't know if this is the year to gamble in this round on somebody that's going to be a very good ballplayer for you two years from now.
Yeah, exactly.
And especially with the Patriots' immediate need at the position.
I think they're probably going to look for someone that's a little bit more NFL-ready, even though
I know they've got Jonathan Jones in the
slot. He's someone that's going to project
there. He's definitely going to be one of the better
corners. Malcolm Butler back in the fold,
but still, they need some NFL
level talent.
You saw at the end of last year, after the Patriots
went on that great run, and then what happened
down the stretch and in the playoffs,
depth and age were a key.
And in the fourth round this year, you need somebody that's going to be able
to come in here and contribute right away in an impactful way every single week.
You can't use the fourth pick, a fourth-round pick this season
on somebody that you're going to be wondering if they're
going to be a healthy scratch on Sunday.
And this could be.
Yeah, unfortunately it is.
It is the case.
So again, I think going down his draft, I like it from start to finish.
I like, I really do.
I like Josh Johnson coming in sixth round, number 191.
That to me is a great pick up on a salsa yeah if you're going
for a wide receiver wide receiver depth and versatility he's a guy that can really do a great
job for you um the algorithms gave him an a minus here i'm i'm inclined to say that i'm going to
agree with that simply because i love the fact that he was able to get jordan davis at number 21
to me that that really is the home run here.
It really is, and that knocked it out of the park.
I also like Sean Ryan in the third round,
even though I believe he's a guard and not a center,
I mean a tackle at the next level.
But no, a fantastic draft.
I give it an A.
You can't when you get that first round pick wow absolutely uh so uh andrew thank you very much for the submission we love breaking it down and again
from uh your lips to the powers that these ears uh maybe who knows maybe jordan davis will end up
being in the wingman patriot i'm coloring it unlikely, but not impossible. Folks, we continue on mocking these drafts here, musing these drafts.
Excuse me.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, Dunmer.
We don't make fun of the draft here.
And I'm going to go with a guy that we absolutely love.
He's been a longtime supporter of the show and a longtime friend of the both of ours.
And that's Cesar, at the Patriots guy on Twitter.
Definitely give him a follow.
You'll be glad to hear a lot of interesting stuff
coming out of there.
You know, Cesar's done a lot of these
and I'm glad that we had an opportunity to do that.
And, you know, he considers himself a smooth criminal.
You know, he wanted a smooth criminal,
you know, reference Cesar.
I'm not going to let you down.
This is a crescendo, my friend.
You know, the bloodstains on the carpet
are not there on this one.
This is a good one.
And again, you know the bloodstains on the carpet are not there on this one this is a good one um and uh again you know this is someone uh you know a lot of uh took a lot of choice a lot of chances here uh trading down only trading down a little bit though yeah uh trading the number the
number 21 pick and the number 85 pick in the third round over to the arizona cardinals and the
patriots turn two picks into three they get the
number 23 pick so just a couple of notches down uh number 55 in round two which I like the Patriots
go back to back there uh and then of course in round seven which the Patriots currently do not
have a pick in round seven number 244 so getting the Patriots involved here I like the trade I
think the uh the trade was that was a good move I think the algorithms were a little harsh on it.
I think it probably deserved maybe more of a solid.
This was not a minus.
I think this was a solid in-between type trade.
But I love what he did with number 23, and that's Andrew Booth coming out of Clemson.
That's it, man.
Andrew Booth is just a really solid pick right here.
I would love to see this happen.
And as I said, if you're going need and you get
Booth at 23, I'm a pretty happy camper. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, if you can get Andrew Booth
at number 23, and again, the more Andrew impresses teams and we've heard rumblings all throughout
draft media, not just here in New England, but all throughout the national draft media that
he's been really impressing a lot of these teams at top 30 visits,
not just here in New England Patriots, which he has visited the Pats.
There is, you know, a little bit more when it comes to what this team does.
So I like Booth at this level.
We talked about Leo Chanel at number 54.
Again, you know, Murph, I know you've had some things to say about him before.
Nick Benito is another one that is, I think, showing up on a lot of Patriots mock drafts.
Now you saw a lot of them come out over the weekend.
Take a look at Patriot Country on Sports Illustrated.
I want to know just for the hair.
Just for his hair.
Absolutely, yeah.
So Murph and I can sit there and toast him every Monday morning.
There you go.
There's another Saturday Night Live reference. Murph, I'm sit there and toast him every Monday morning. There you go. There's another Saturday Night Live reference.
Murph, I'm showing my age today, really.
And I'm really.
You and me both.
But again, Cordell Flott coming in at round four, number 127.
He comes in to the Patriots fold there.
He likes Josh Johnson.
Very similar to what Andrew submitted was submitted earlier on round six
and uh for 200 and that seventh round at 244 is where he selects matt arisa coming in from uh from
san diego state but not before rounding out the sixth round at 210 with josh rebus at the guard
position out of kansas state murph your overall impression of Cesar's draft. Is this a crescendo, like I said?
Yeah, it is, man. Talk about a smooth criminal move right here. It was fantastic. We talked
about Flott a little bit earlier. I really, really like the TCU kid that he grabs here in 158,
Obina Ease. I probably just butchered that name. But Josh what, but you know, Josh Rivera down here at two 10,
uh, I'm sorry, Rivas at two 10, uh, the kid out of Kansas state monster monster. I'm loving it.
And, and of course, you know, what he did up at the top of the draft was, was really cool. We've
talked about these guys an awful lot. And I think, uh, you know, Cordell Flott is, is just slipping
in everywhere. Yes, he is. He just slipping in everywhere yes he is he's slipping
in everywhere simply because it's kind of the kind of the in thing right now the algorithm the
algorithms are putting him in there but you're starting to see him sneak in a little bit in the
national attention as well so things have crazy things happen as the draft comes closer and we'll
continue to monitor that it amazes me that we only have one more of these mock drafts after today,
but don't worry folks,
because we are not done yet.
We've got still a couple of good mock drafts to mock for you,
including an edge rusher from South Carolina that is racing up the charts as
well.
Number one with a bullet as the late great Casey Kasem would say,
Murph and I will discuss that and more when this Locked On Murph Monday episode
musing the draft of the Locked On
Patriots podcast continues. But first,
Murph, it's Team Butchie's
favorite segment of the show.
I get to talk to you about one

like type of an easter candy that you would have.
You know, it really is.
It's delicious.

You know, all of the great flavors that they have.
Right now, Built Bar is doing amazing things.
You definitely want to try the puffs.
The puffs are amazing.
Try the churro puffs.
Great, great stuff.

They actually make great stores, by the way. With the season coming up,
try that. You will not.

wherever. You'll thank me for it.

I'm not getting paid for this.
See and Murph loves it. And you know, you know, you can trust
that you know, you know, and you can always take everything that this man says to the bank, folks.
You know it's great, and you know he loves it.
Murph, we love having you here.
That's the great thing about Locked On Murph Monday.
You get your very own branded hashtag.
And with the exception of the Toto poster on the wall in Mark Schofield's honor,
there is no more iconic item here in the Locked On Patriot Studios
than your embroidered director's chair.
Don Murph, we still have a couple of mock drafts to go through today, and we didn't get a chance
to get to him last week. We know he likes to submit a little late in the day, but that is
no reason to penalize him. LJ, you know we love you, my friend. We really, really do.
One of the truly great guys we've had a chance to interact with.
Tried to sneak in a second one
this week. He did. He tried to.
Little Easter egg treat there.
He really did.
Slipped right in there. But this is the one I
really, really liked. And Murph and I,
this caught our eye over the weekend.
And if you follow us religiously on Twitter,
you'll see that we
interacted with this one a little bit.
This will be on the Locked On Patriots Twitter account.
LJ kept the number 21 pick.
He's got the Patriots still making that first rounder.
And someone we've talked about a little bit,
but not, I think, as much as maybe we should have,
is Devontae Wyatt going at number 21.
This would make Carraway happy.
He loves himself some Devontae Wyatt.
Who wouldn't that georgia
bulldogs defense is absolutely a monster not the guy we would take at number 21 but that doesn't
mean that this is not a good pick i love davante white and i'd be really really happy with this
pick let's say you don murph i i i too would be uh thrilled to have this happen um again maybe
not the the way i go at number three but again he might not even be
there at 21 in the way that that he moves in the way that he's risen up the board since the combine
uh an unbelievable uh block shedder uh he's again his first step is is as fast as anybody that I've ever seen right now, he just, he, he, he plays with, with one speed and that,
that one speed is, is you know, hit the red button type speed. If I can't find a knock on him,
some people do. Some people say he doesn't have enough power to play the position or to be
drafted at, at this point, this point in time, but he's just so fast and
so disruptive. And I would really, really love to see him chasing down some of these AFC East
quarterbacks over the next 10 years. Yeah, not bad at all. And Wyatt does have that type of
skill set. You've said it very eloquently, and I'm not going to belabor the point, but again,
that's one of the reasons why you're seeing him appear on so many Patriots mocks, because
he is that type of prototypical guy that can come in and really transfer a defensive line right off
the bat. So I like Devante. Yeah. Yeah. You want to fix the run game problem. Here you go. There
you go. Absolutely. Yeah, really. The next pick here at number 52, excuse me, number 54 in round two, folks, is someone that is, again, we're seeing him appear on a lot more mock drafts.
He's in this one.
He's going to be in the next one that we're going to break down in just a little bit.
Kingsley Enigbare from South Carolina.
And this one, to me, the algorithms love this guy.
And there's a reason for it.
Watch some of his tape from South Carolina and what this guy can do.
To me, I think one of the more intriguing players at his position,
and you can understand why he's kind of, I don't want to say rocketing up the boards,
because that would be an exaggeration.
But I like the way that this kid is able to project into a Patriots system like this
because I like the fact that he can be an edge defender in a defense that's multiple in its fronts.
And the Patriots do that.
They run a lot of multiple fronts.
And you see that with regard to some of the packages that they put in.
Not necessarily the run defender that I think the Patriots are looking for.
This guy is more getting after the passer.
He's got great first step quickness.
You look at him, he's always in the quarterback's face.
He's always right there.
He's got a good nose for the football.
But again, I think in terms of being able to identify the block correctly,
this is a little bit of a stretch.
What do you think about Enigbare?
I think he's a fine football player. I don't think he's a fit here. I think he steps back and lets the game come to him a little bit too much in waiting to see how things are breaking
down. And right now, I'm sorry, but I don't see him as a fit here. And I, I do
believe it's a bit early to, to grab him in this draft. I'm not sure. I'm not looking at it right
now. What did they, what, you know, what did they grade? They graded it an A minus. Yeah.
The powers that be graded an A minus. What the hell do I know? What the hell do I know?
The all knowing all powerful Don Murph murph now there's there's no
question about it uh yeah i i can see your point i definitely can see your point and again this is
a little bit more i think developmental in terms of someone if you're going to bring him in for the
edge i think this early because of the holes that the patriots have on this team and because they're
definitely looking at upgrading the cornerback position
upgrading the offensive line which ironically correct me if i'm wrong on lj's uh you know um
mock here i didn't see uh an offensive lineman i don't know i could be uh yeah um so you know
that's not to say that it's a bad trade that's excuse me the trade i'm getting ahead of myself
here right that's not to say that it's a bad draft uh just i think with a lot of the needs that the patriots have out there i think it's going to be a little
bit difficult for them to make a reach those needs in other ways he doesn't have to fill he doesn't
have to fill them in the draft it would just be nice that that's a good point to do it that way
yeah um i just i just think this is too soon for him.
There's about – excuse me.
There's a few more people that I would rather see at this spot.
The Minnesota kid.
Oh, God.
What's his – God, Boy Maeve.
Boy Maeve. I would really like to see him here.
He might be somebody that's there at day two that would fit in here a bit better.
He needs to work on setting an edge and everything, but I'm not putting you down,
but it's just not where I would go with this player right now. I just don't think he fits in
here. So that means you're right. And Bill will take it. You know what? Those developmental
talents, Bill loves to be able to take it and say, you know what those developmental talents bill loves to be able
to take it and say you know what you don't think he's a fit i'm gonna make him a fit but you know
what i do lj i don't want to completely uh you know negate that because like i said before this
is a guy that can succeed in multiple fronts when setting the edge and if there's anybody that can
incorporate him into what the patriots do well it is is Bill Belichick. So I like the ingenuity there.
LJ, I'd be remiss, buddy, if I didn't give you your moment in the sun.
LJ finally figured out a way, folks, to unload Nikhil Harry.
And he's been dying to do this for the last couple of years.
He makes a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Again, the Jaguars being a wig.
You listen to my friend, my good friend Tony Wiggins, that hosts Lockdown Jaguars here on the network.
Phenomenal host.
Folks, definitely go out.
One of the more entertaining pods you'll ever listen to.
I love Tony, and he does a great job.
But I don't know if he'd go for this trade.
I've got to be honest with you.
LJ, you pulled off a great one here.
I give you a lot of GM skills here.
I don't know what pictures you have of who down there in Jacksonville, but sure.
Yeah.
But the Patriots walk away with the 65th pick in the third round, the number 108th pick in the fourth round. And the Jaguars end up with the number 85 pick in the third round, the number 127 in the fourth,
and the Patriots 200 pick in the sixth round and Nikhil Harry.
So the Pats giving up a little bit to get a couple of these back.
But I like what he did with it.
Penn State's Brandon Smith coming in at number 65.
That's not happening.
He's not going to be there.
He's not going to be there.
Yeah, that's a little bit of a stretch.
And a guy I love on a Nevada, Romeo romeo dobbs coming yeah uh receiver position
really really slick yeah i i like this kid a lot i really do i i don't know if it's the it's the
vision that he's running out there and then he's making everybody look like little children while
he's he's grabbing balls but uh no i i would love that i i would love that it's it's just the fact
you know you go back there's
no way that Brandon Smith is going to be there and and sadly there's no way that Bill is going
to take a Penn State guy oh who knows I mean you know what there's a first there's a first for
everything Murph maybe he'll do you know what maybe he's listening to this pod and going yep
that's it Murph I'm not taking a Penn State guy give me a list i want all the nittany lions here um but uh no all kidding aside i happen to agree with you on that as well uh
noah isles coming in uh again interior defensive line coming out of idaho uh you know um i know
murph doesn't like his spartans but uh jalen nailer coming out from uh michigan state they can
get him in the sixth round at two yeah i at two yeah not a bad talent um overall i again maybe we don't agree with some of the algorithms here
lj but there's no way we're gonna penalize you for that for putting in a solid draft uh
b plus on this one definitely the a rising i think um lj really knocked it out of the park
with what he was given uh the thought he did a pretty good job.
The trade that he made was fantastic.
I would love to see it happen.
I really would.
But, I mean, if you can grab Brandon Smith in round three at 65, sure.
Romeo Dubs, I really, really like that pick out of Nevada.
You know, we just talked about him.
And Naylor, you know, you grab two solid wide receivers,
a fantastic lineailer, you know, you, you grabbed two solid wide receivers, a fantastic linebacker and one of the best, uh, interior defensive linemen in this draft. And,
and I give it, I give it an A. I give it an A. Definitely. Absolutely. So LJ, thank you,
my friend. Uh, and thank you for continuing to submit these great mocks. And, uh, we always
look forward to breaking down your, uh, your drafts, getting some laughs in with you because
we know that, uh, you enjoy that as well.
But all kidding aside, it really does make our job a lot easier when we have people put in the work that our listeners really do.
And I haven't seen a bad one yet that's been submitted.
Those that make the cut really kind of give us something interesting to talk about.
But I haven't seen a bad mock submitted by anyone.
Please continue, folks. And Mray and i really appreciate it we round things out today with the king how could
we not end right uh and the king returns uh you know who mac jones is the uh the twitter handle
uh you can add him at the king one oh five three uh five seven nine two when he says it's addictive doing these mock drafts.
It is
addictive without any question.
He's pulled
off a pretty good one here.
Andrew Booth coming in at number 21.
We've talked about Booth. Don't want to belabor
that too much.
If it wasn't for the injury history,
he'd be a top 12,
top 15 pick.
So bravo.
I love the move.
I absolutely do.
This one has got a lot of our favorites in it, Murph.
So that's guys that we've talked about here on Locked On Patriots
that we haven't necessarily given a whole lot of, I don't know,
maybe for lack of a better term, a lot of light elsewhere.
But they get some play here on Locked On because of the guys that we like to talk about.
Of course, we talked about Cordell Flott earlier.
We talked about Kingsley and Ibarre.
He's here at number, number 62 in the second round.
So these algorithms are having, you know, Kingsley ranked pretty high.
Right.
At number 85, third round, Khalil Shaker out of Boise State.
This is really becoming a very realistic pick.
We're seeing a lot of guys look at him as the possibility.
When Phil Perry starts to talk about him of NBC Sports Boston,
you know there's something there, something to bite onto.
Why is Shaker all of a sudden becoming not just a possibility,
but almost a probability for the New England Patriots
if he's there right around this time.
Yeah, I'm really, really not sure why he's risen this quickly, this fast.
But like you said, if Philly Perry is going in there and doing deep dives on it,
there has to be something to it.
He's a fine ball player.
I love anybody that's straight out of Boise.
So, yeah, I've got to do some more film work on him.
But, no, a solid pick, solid pick.
Absolutely.
I think a solid pick as well.
Look, there's a lot of areas that he addressed here.
You talk about cornerback.
He's got Andrew Booth.
He's got Cordell Flott coming in in the fifth round.
Wide receiver, Kyle Phillips out of UCLA,
a guy that i think is not
being talked enough about enough as a possible mean patriots target um two pretty good tackles
kellen tice out of arizona state and our old buddy zach tom absolutely and the algorithms like him
better in the fifth there's no question about it but i would be i wouldn't be really upset if they
took him a little earlier because i love
zach thompson versatility here in this system we've talked about these guys before kentucky's
marquand mccall i really think is someone that's kind of entered my consciousness a little bit too
late may have culpa on that maybe i'm not doing my due diligence but a lot of my colleagues in
the media are really talking about this guy as the potential Bill Belichick knows that really can help the middle part of that interior of the defensive line and really help to shore up that run defense.
Be that big presence that the Patriots need in order to free up some of those more speedy linebackers to get after an edge rushers to get after the quarterback.
What are your thoughts on McCall really quick?
Yeah, I really like McCall.
He's one of those guys that can get in there and eat up a lot of space he is a bill belichick type
guy and uh and so you know bingo absolutely so overall my friend when you look at what the king
did over here um what is your uh thought process on his draft uh the algorithms give him an a uh
do you agree a little too high a little too low. What say you?
I am going to go right along with what they have here for our man. And it's a solid B plus A minus draft. Yeah, I agree with you 100%. Again, the algorithms, you can only do what is provided to
you by some of these simulators. And whether you're using our good friends over at the draft network.com or
you're using PFF,
a lot of times you just kind of have to go with what's given.
And these are based on big boards.
They're based on talent evaluation.
But when you know your stuff,
you're able to get guys in here that are solid picks for this team,
not necessarily going with best available, but you know,
as the late great Herb Brooks once said, I don't want the best available, but as the late, great Herb Brooks
once said, I don't want the best players. I want the right ones. And I think in a lot of ways,
Bill Belichick has made quite a good living. 70 years of age, Bill celebrated his birthday over
the weekend. Happy birthday, Bill. But all kidding aside, this is really, I think, something that
New England has done regularly and they're going to continue to do so.
I agree.
Solid B+, A- rising.
Thank you, Your Majesty, for sending in this.
Again, folks, give them a shout-out.
Who Mac Jones is the handle, and the King, 10535792 is the Twitter handle.
We've got to fix that.
Remember when I fixed your twitter handle
yeah mine looked like an inmate number and i thank you for that murph because without that
i'd still be languishing somewhere uh you know wherever uh we're you know prisoner four five
three seven eight one nine nine nine nine and yeah exactly we gotta fix this yeah we gotta fix
yours yeah i should imagine if like those algorithms just like, you know,
put out, you know, 8, 6, 7, 5, 3, 0, 9 after your number or something like that.
You know, at least if you're going to do like that,
something that's going to be memorable.
No, all kidding aside, King, we love you.
Thank you.
This is the second great draft that you submitted.
And we look forward to breaking these all down.
Murph, it is time to close up the mock draft Mailbag for the week here on Locked On Patriots.
But don't forget, folks, there is still one more Monday
to get in your Mock Drafts.
