Good evening, I'm Chris Simino, Patriots Inside of a Scout.com,
and also your host of Locked On Patriots.
Today is Sunday, July 16th, 2017.
We've got a lot to get to today.
We're going to get started with mostly news and updates. Get you guys
all squared away on what's going on, heading up to training camp here.
We're also going to discuss a little bit of the Patriots defensive depth chart.
Assuming that we have time to get to it. If we don't have time to get to that today, we'll definitely get to that
over the course of this week. Just so you guys know, I know we haven't had a ton of shows
lately. Just to be perfectly honest with you, this hasn't been a lot to talk about,
and we weren't going to waste you guys' time with wasted air.
It just doesn't make any sense for us to do.
So now, July 16th, we are very, very close to training camp,
so we are going to ramp up big time.
So I'll talk to most of the individual players,
what we think is going to happen leading up to the season. We'll start with some of our prediction shows. It's going to
start getting fun and we're going to have about five shows a week going forward as soon
as training camp starts. So again, it's game on here for the Patriots and it's game on
for us here at Locked On Patriots. So before we get started, I want my listeners to know
that I can be found on Twitter under the handle Chris underscore Simino. You can
also find us under LockedOnPatriots,
which is also our new Twitter
handle. If you have any questions for the show,
read about the Patriots myself, Patriots
Insider on Scout.com. Or if you're

if you're not a member of that
well, you are missing out
you should probably get that done
so we're going to jump right into this because there is some stuff to get to.
One of the good things about waiting a few weeks before we do our shows during the dead period is that we let the news pile up a little bit so we get something to talk about.
So first and foremost, this is one that jumped out at me today.
David Harris, he jumped at the chance to join the Patriots, which I thought was interesting.
He quote, they reached out to me and I pretty much accepted on the spot that I wanted to play there.
You know, it's a great organization.
They're the gold standard in the NFL.
Why wouldn't you want to be part of that?
That really stands out to me because, you know, the fact that he was one of their rivals also for the last 10 years.
You know, he hated the Patriots.
He really did.
Anybody who played for the Jets during that time just despised them.
But obviously he's a smart guy.
He understands the game.
And he knows that joining the Patriots not only gives him a chance to win the Super Bowl,
it gives him a chance to be a big part of it too
because linebackers in the area, they're thin.
So Harris has a chance to play. I think he's going to play a ton next year. I think that contract is going to turn out to be one of the steals of the offseason.
It's very good and very
exciting for Patriots and for their fans to know how excited he is
to join this organization. You're going to see this guy leave it all out in the
field, which he's always done.
He's never really missed games throughout his career.
He's a winner.
He's a tough player, and it's pretty good that he wants to be here.
So Patriots fans, I think you should be excited about David Harris
because we hire Lockdown Patriots.
Next up in the news, just some of the comments we've been reading.
Julian Edelman, he was talking today
about what I think everybody should be thinking. Talking about 19-0 is stupid. That was his
exact quote. And you know, he's not wrong. This whole thing with 19-0, I think it's an
infatuation since we just missed out on it. Let it go. Let it go.
If it happens, it happens.
But if it doesn't, it doesn't.
It's not about 19-0.
It's about number six.
That's what it comes down to.
If they go 12-4, 13-3, 11-5, 14-2, 15-1, I don't care.
As long as they win the Super Bowl, that's all that matters.
That's all that matters.
So this whole 19-0 stuff is definitely stupid.
I agree with Edelman on that.
Yes, Patriots roster is absolutely stacked,
and it's one of the best teams they've had in a long time.
But enough with the 19-0 stuff.
It's time to put that away.
Speaking of things that are kind of stupid, Roger Goodell apparently is still upset about Matt Patricia's clown t-shirt that he came home in after the Patriots won their fifth Super Bowl.
Roger, seriously, let it go. Let it go. First and foremost, you are a clown, so you kind of deserve
that t-shirt. It's befitting of what you are. But at the same time, I mean,
jeez, man, come on. The things that you did and that you still have
a job making $43 million a year, which I think that's what I could be a little bit off, but I'm pretty
sure I'm close there. The things that you got away with,
with the Ray Rice situation and how you screwed over Tom Brady and how you
let the whole Peyton Manning thing go. Now there seems to be something else about Peyton Manning that's popping up out of
nowhere that I'm sure will get squashed. Just shut up, okay? Let it go. Because the funniest thing is,
I have a feeling Matt Patricia is going to be the next head coach of the New England Patriots.
So, Goodell, get used to it, all right? You are a clown. People have no respect for you throughout
the league, no matter what you do, no matter what you say, media, players, and I'm sure there's a lot of front office
people out there that just don't respect who you are, and they're going to look at you
as a clown.
So the fact that one of your, what you think is one of your employees, but really isn't
one of your employees, he's actually one of Bob Craft's employees, what he's wearing,
he can wear whatever he wants. I think it's time for you to realize how ridiculous and how bad of a job you did over the last six years
and maybe try to get better at your job instead of worrying about people's T-shirts that they wear after winning the Super Bowl.
Ridiculous.
Next up on the docket of the news, this one's actually going to be funny in the Patriots locker room.
I'll tell you that right now,
Danny Amendola has signed a contract with the Ford Modeling Agency.
So, good for Danny, good looking guy,
can go out and get himself a job doing modeling after his NFL career is over.
I can't knock the guy, he's hustling,
he's going to keep working when he's done playing football,
he's going to do something,
why not do something that he can get paid a lot of money to continue to do?
Hey, good for him.
But again, he is never going to hear the end of that in that locker room.
But I have a feeling he won't be the only Patriot guy that goes that route.
I have a feeling Tom Brady is going to be going that route when it's all said and done, too.
So we might be seeing some male models leaving after their Patriots careers,
which is, again, they're never going to hit the end of it in the locker room,
but they'll never see the end of it when it comes to their paychecks too,
so good for them.
So Nike apparently was not too happy with Mr. Rob Gronkowski.
Gronk released this logo that he has of him spiking a football.
I don't know how much it looks like, this Jordan Jumpman logo,
but Nike thinks it looks pretty similar. So they told Mr. Gronkowski that, no, you're going to get sued.
So I just think it's interesting that Gronkowski's really made a big jump this year
as far as becoming a pitch man.
He's selling that stupid football that's got the speaker in it, which is the most
ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life. And all the other things he's got going on, TV shows
online, everything, good for him. You know, a lot of these guys, they understand football is not long,
so they got to do something to make it so they'll have football after, they'll have money after
football is over. But at least try to do it in the most professional way you can do.
You know, don't...
Just don't go out there and make these random logos
that look like the Jumpman logo
and have these weird television shows
and weird skits and things like that.
Gronk, you've got to pick your spots, man.
You've got to pick your spots.
And I just don't...
I don't know.
I don't know. I think he needs to
find some better
producers of the content
that he's put together.
Again, I give him credit
for trying and all these guys that
go out and do these different things to try to
get their name out there and try to build their brand.
But at the same time,
sometimes you've got to
find a better person to help you build your brand. Speaking of building a brand, but at the same time sometimes you've got to find a better person to help you build your brand.
Speaking of building a brand,

So back to the news here for the Patriots.
Unfortunately, we have some bad news to pass along, some sad news. Patriots legend Babe
Parilli passed away on Saturday at the age of 87. Parilli played for the Boston Patriots.
They were the Boston Patriots back when they first started as a franchise. He played for
them from 61 to 67. He played in three AFL All-Star games and was the AFL's comeback player of the
year in 1966. He was also part of the all-AFL 10-year anniversary team in 71. He had 31 touchdown
passes in 1964, and that was actually a team record until Brady shattered it in 2007. Prilly's
fourth on the Patriots' career passing list was 16,747 yards. He's also a member of the team's
Hall of Fame. He was a good holder, too. That's one of the things
people never talk about. He was nicknamed Goldfinger, which is kind of funny because
that sounds like a character from a Bond movie.
He started his pro career with the Packers in 1952. Also played for the Browns,
the Raiders, the Jets, and he also played up in Canada for the Ottawa Rough Riders.
He was a backup to Joe Namath for the Jets, and he also played up in Canada for the Ottawa Rough Riders. He was a backup to Joe Namath for the Jets
when they won their Super Bowl in 1969. So, again, that's
Babe Parilli, former Patriots quarterback, has passed away. Rest in peace,
Babe. You're one of the most historic Patriots in history.
And I hope fans can appreciate what he was to this organization.
If you get a chance, go back to YouTube and check out some of his highlights.
He was a pretty amazing guy.
Moving on, former Patriots receiver Michael Floyd has received a four-game suspension from the NFL
for testing positive for alcohol while on probation.
He was drinking, I think it's called Sambucha tea.
I believe that's what it's called.
It looks disgusting.
I'm not going to lie. If it was you out there that drink it and are offended believe that's what it's called. It looks disgusting. I'm not going to lie.
If it was you out there that drink it and are offended by my comment, I'm sorry.
It looks gross, and I would not put that in my mouth.
But apparently it has alcohol in it, and Michael Floyd supposedly, supposedly didn't know.
And you know what?
Maybe he didn't.
You know, maybe he didn't.
But, you know, the guy is an alcoholic.
In last season, I was pretty, I thought I was pretty fair with him, and I am when it comes to that situation,
because everybody in their lives dealt with alcoholism, and they've had people in their lives that they've had to,
that they love and that they deal with and that they know.
So Michael Floyd is one of these people that you know has an alcohol problem after the first drink of sambucha is the tea how could you not realize it how could you not
realize that it has alcohol in it you must know you must feel it even if you're not told
if you have somebody hands you a drink and you can't taste the alcohol, and you feel it,
you're going to know that there's alcohol in the drink.
And if you have a few of them, you're definitely going to know that there's alcohol in the drink.
So I think it's sad that this is happening.
I think it's sad that he told the organization that he didn't know.
The organization backed him, which I found odd.
The coach there, his name escapes me at the moment, which it really shouldn't, but it does.
He had said that he was going to cut him if he lied to him. I don't know. I just, in this whole
situation, and I hate to sound so negative because I was so positive about him last year, but
I just don't believe him that he doesn't think that there was alcohol in it. I'm sorry.
I just, the four-game suspension seems like a slap on the wrist for a guy who was asleep
at the wheel last season and could have killed somebody or himself.
Patriots gave him a second chance, and now I see why the Patriots didn't bring him back.
It makes sense.
They probably realized, you know what, this guy, they didn't see the growth that they
wanted to see as far as maybe him going to classes or things of that nature,
and they moved on from him,
and unfortunately now Minnesota's going to have to deal with it.
Again, they seem to be backing him,
but I just don't think this is something where they should be backing him.
I think what they should be doing is, yes, backing him,
but get him help, please.
That's what needs to be done.
Get Michael Floyd help because there's something definitely wrong with the guy.
To say that he didn't realize that there was no alcohol in the tea after he had the first one, because if you have one, then you test positive
for it, and there's not as high of an alcohol content as there was in his body,
that's one thing, but the fact that he drank like four of them, and I think it was even more than that,
that just goes to show that he knew what he was doing, and that he
knew what his cop out was going
to be at the same time no good michael floyd come on man clean it up you gotta you gotta get help
um on to on to uh better news more funny news as i as i make fun of a coach here actually michael
floyd's former coach uh cardinals coach oh my, his name escapes me right now, too. Having a brain cramp today, guys.
I'm sorry.
It's been a little while.
Oh, Bruce Arians, Mr. Hat.
You know, that guy's been known for his pathetic comments and his excuses,
I think, for the last couple seasons.
The things that come out of his mouth, you just look at them and go,
good Lord, man, please don't talk.
So this time, he decided he was going to blame last season's week one loss to the Patriots.
That was their reason for their awful season.
That's why the Cardinals were terrible last year.
Because they lost week one to the Patriots when Jimmy Garoppolo started.
Seriously, that's his cop-out.
And, you know, even I've said at times that I think that maybe the Patriots do send teams into tailspins and they beat them.
But it was week one.
It's week one, man.
You cannot allow, as a coach in the NFL, now if I'm the owner of that team,
and I hear the head coach say that he thinks losing week one sent his team into a tailspin,
my red flag's going off.
I'm like, I'm going to fire this coach.
Are you kidding me?
You cannot have your team,
you can't lose your team after losing one game to start the season.
You shouldn't even lose your team if you start 0-4 in a 16-game season.
That's an unbelievably disgusting excuse
that Bruce Arians put forth the other day for the Cardinals'
lack of winning last year. He should be embarrassed. Their owner should be embarrassed for him.
I cannot believe that he said that. So, Bruce Arians, man, you just need to shut your mouth.
I think you should not do any media shows or anything, because every time you talk,
it's either something that sounds like a caveman would say, as far as some of your comments, and as far as, you know, pretty much everything you say
sounds foolish, and I know you've had some success in the NFL, but dude, no, do not blame a week one
loss to the Patriots as the catalyst to having a horrible season. I understand that's not the best way to start the year,
but you ask Bill Belichick, and he'll say it straightforward,
September is like an extension of the preseason.
You're feeling your team out.
You're trying to figure out what you have.
If you go 1-3, 2-2, 3-1, or 4-0,
no matter what you do, you're still trying to figure out what you are.
So to say that going 0-1 was the reason why your team struggled
throughout the entire season is disgusting. It's a cop-out, and it makes me think that
he doesn't have the testicular fortitude to be an NFL head coach. Bruce Arians, everyone.
On the flip side, excellent young coach Adam Gase of the Miami Dolphins, which kind of
pains me to say because I'm not a Dolphins guy. I grew up in New England, so I was a Patriots guy.
And now, as I'm a member of the media, obviously I still want them to do well,
but I see both sides of it.
I still can't stand the Dolphins, but I do like the fact that they have a great head coach in Adam Gase
because I think that gives the Patriots competition.
And he said something very similar this week that I really liked.
He said, quote, I think this is good for us because we get to go against the best twice
a year and you know exactly where you stand in the NFL.
Last year they beat us twice.
They beat us pretty handily both times.
We really put ourselves in a hole and they let us know that we have a long way to go.
Now, that's professionalism.
That's coaching.
That's knowing what you are.
Unlike the aforementioned idiot that I talked about from Arizona.
Gase gets it. He gets it.
Of course you want to be in the same division as the Patriots.
Of course you want to be in the same division as the team that's the best team in the NFL.
You know what you have to measure yourself up against.
If you beat that team, you can beat any team in the league.
With Gase, and I think unfortunately for him, and he probably realizes it,
is that having Tannehill is probably going to limit him to not being able to win a Super Bowl with Miami.
But when that team gets a quarterback, the Patriots are going to have their hands full every single year.
I am convinced of that as long as Adam Gase is there.
He is a terrific coach.
He's going to get them to where they need to go.
Patriots fans need to hope that somehow the owner,
that mess dumpster fire down there in Miami,
can somehow screw this thing up and lose Gase to another team.
Because if he doesn't, I'm telling you right now,
if there's a team that's going to take away the Patriots' control of the AFC East,
it's going to be the team that has the best coach when Belichick walks away.
And if that team is the Miami Dolphins, because they still have Adam Gase,
they're going to be the team that takes over again.
Notice I say again because Miami has been on top of the division.
They were historically for many years.
So keep an eye on that.
It's amazing you see the difference in coaches,
and you can just tell who gets it and who doesn't.
Guys like Bruce Arians don't, and unfortunately a guy in your own division,
Adam Gase, does.
So look out for the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
I really think they're going to be a tough team to deal with.
In fact, when you talk about that whole undefeated talk,
I think one of the teams the Patriots will lose to this season,
one of their losses will come to the Miami Dolphins.
So that's just a prediction I'm putting out there.
