Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey there everybody, welcome on in to a Mailbag Wednesday here at the Locked On Patriots Podcast. Mark Schofield here in the big chair for today, Wednesday, March 30th, 2019. We're going to empty out the mailbag today solicited some questions on twitter yesterday just fantastic fantastic response to the clarion call for questions we get a ton of stuff we're going to get to we're going to talk quarterbacks we're going to talk a ton about the patriots we're going to talk about the defensive end position surprise cuts position groups we're worried about we're going to talk some fantasy stuff some coaching staff changes and what we're worried about and a little bit later we're actually just going to have some fun
Starting point is 00:00:45 because we've got some interesting questions that I want to make sure I get to, including some questions from some great friends of the show and of the pod. But before we do any of that, a reminder to follow me on Twitter at Mark Schofield. You can, as always, check out the work at places like InsideThePylon.com, Pro Football Weekly, The Score, Matt Waldman's Rookie Scouting Portfolio, a host of SB Nation websites, including Big Blue View, where I'm going to have a Ryan Finley piece up at some point, Bleeding Green Nation, where I'm the co-host.
Starting point is 00:01:17 The worst half, the uglier half, perhaps, of the Hubie Sko Show, which I host with Michael J. Kist and of course pat's pulpit where i'm going to start doing some quarterback pieces over there of a more patriots focused variety and you heard in their pro football weekly the pfw draft magazine is out you can get it via amazon you can get it at barnes and noble it was pretty cool to walk into a barnes and noble and pick up a magazine where i got a little bit of a cover feature. It's not the full-on cover story, but I do have a piece in there
Starting point is 00:01:49 about getting rookie quarterbacks to play quickly and how to do that. Talked to some great people, Matt Bowen, Tony Rocopi, Ted Wynn, Dan Hattman.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Talked to a bunch of different people to get some great sound and color for that. And so please, please, please check out the Pro Football Weekly Draft magazine. As I said, got some great questions. Let's hop right to it.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Brandon Hike at B-R-A-N-D-O-N-H-I-K-E on Twitter. Quarterback situation, Mark. As much as I want to see Brady play until he's 52, gotta be rational here. Do you think Bill wants a quarterback to groom in this class or next year's? And it's a fantastic question. Those of you who have been listening to this show since the outset know this is my second draft as the host of the Locked On Patriots podcast. Extremely excited about that.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Love covering the draft. Long-time listeners and followers of my work know that I start studying quarterbacks. Let me tell you, I am about a week or so away from just diving into Tua and diving into Justin Herbert and diving into Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm, and all those guys, because I'm pretty much done other than writing my final reports and grades and stuff on this class, this cast of characters but still to brandon's point yes i do think that bill wants to address qb of the future in this class i wanted them to do it in last year's class but they probably thought that for what it would have cost to go up and get one of the guys that they wanted it would have been too much now astute followers of the draft remember that A1 Lamar Jackson was on the clock when the Patriots picked Isaiah Wynn.
Starting point is 00:03:31 He was available when they picked Sonny Michel. But the Patriots did not pull the trigger on that decision. And so maybe that tells you how they value and scout the quarterback position. This year, look, I've been saying Brett Rippon is a guy I think fits with what they value at the quarterback position. You look at the Parcells rules. He checks all seven of those boxes. Another guy that does it is Ryan Finley. It would not surprise me to see them go for a Ryan Finley.
Starting point is 00:04:01 I don't think that there's a guy in this class, say, of the top three or four. Let's take the consensus top three or four guys, okay? Dwayne Haskins, Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Drew Locke, in some order. I won't have Daniel Jones in there. You probably know that by now, but that's sort of the consensus top four. I don't think any of those guys, except maybe a Daniel Jones, kind of fits what they want at the quarterback position. Maybe Haskins, he might be the closest from the mental side of it, but the accuracy issues probably scare them off. I don't think it's Kyler Murray. Look, if they weren't going to draft Lamar last year, I doubt that it's going to be Kyler Murray.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Maybe they go outside of the box, but I don't think he fits with what they want at the quarterback position, even though he checks some of the boxes that they like, accuracy and so on. I think they're going to be a little bit more traditional when they're looking to replace Brady. Drew Locke, I don't think fits with what they want to do. He's more of your boundary and vertical type guy. He's not where their offense is right now. And so I don't think they would go up to get somebody. I think it's going to be another situation where a guy either falls to them or the Josh Rosen thing. Cardinals just sat down with Kyler Murray. They did. And so maybe Rosen is available. And if so, maybe. And he was
Starting point is 00:05:22 a guy that I would have loved to see them draft last year so that could still happen next question matt st john at m-a-t-t-s-t-d-r-e-a-m matt st dream on the twitter machine how will dietrich how well will dietrich wise be able to fill the shoes of trey flowers and as we're about to talk about in about five minutes we're all wondering what this pass rush this d-line this defensive front is going to look like and as it stands right now we're about to talk about in about five minutes, we're all wondering what this pass rush, this D-line, this defensive front is going to look like. And as it stands right now, we're kind of looking at sort of edge rush by committee.
Starting point is 00:05:53 You look at the Patriots depth chart right now. Obviously, yes, Trey Flowers is out. There are other players out too on the defensive side of the ball, most notably Malcolm Brown. But when it comes to sort of edge rush and edge pressure, Trey Flowers is the big loss. Now you have Michael Bennett come in. We all sort of assume that Dietrich Ries will be the guy opposite from him.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Keonta Davis, Derek Rivers, John Simon, who was recently resigned. Those are some also potential guys in the mix here to get some rush off the edge. But everybody sort of looks to two guys, Rivers or Wise. As one of these guys, one of these players will have to sort of step it up. As for Wise, he was interesting because if you remember back to last year, a lot of it was sort of schemed. They didn't rely on him to win one-on-ones across from Trey Flowers. There was more stunts and things like that, although he did win some one-on-ones across from Trey Flowers. There was more stunts and things like that,
Starting point is 00:06:45 although he did win some one-on-ones from time to time. I think with the acquisition of Bennett, you might see if Michael Bennett sort of plays to his form and potential, it might be a similar situation where they can still do some scheme stuff. And so Bennett might be looked at as more of the Flowers replacement, a guy you sort of trust to make some splash plays, win some one-on-ones, and you do the scheme stuff with Dietrich Weiss. That's my sort of off-the-cuff view of how they're going to handle the edge. It would not surprise me with their 12 picks that one of these guys,
Starting point is 00:07:17 or one of those picks, excuse me, is an edge-type guy. But I still think that Weiss won't be asked to sort of replace one-on-one trade flowers. Bennett's going to be the veteran, low-cost attempt at doing that Stizzy Superfan at g-u-a-n-n-e-t I believe I got that right I'll double check that here in a second wow I just could not read my own handwriting it is quante q, Q-U-A-N-N-E-H. That is Stacey Superfan's handle. Again, follow all these great people at Something Questions. He asks, which player that is currently considered a roster lock would you least be surprised to see gone
Starting point is 00:07:56 when we cut down to 53 in the fall? I just got done sort of sending the praises of Michael Bennett. And we all sort of assume that he's going to be on the roster. But there's a reason why if there was sort of a surprise cut, I would be the least surprised if it were him. Why? Dead money, zero. Zero if he is cut sort of pre-June 1. Post-June 1, if he is cut, dead money, zero. Cap savings, if he's cut, whether pre-June 1 or post-June 1, 7.2 million. His contract is very sort of team-friendly. And so he was very much a low-risk type of sign-in because of the money and the way it's constructed. Zero in dead cap and a cap savings of 7.2 whenever you cut him. It's very team friendly. I expect him to be on the roster,
Starting point is 00:08:51 but if he's not, it's going to be because of the economics of it. It's going to be inexpensive to walk away from him. I still think they're going to look at him as this is the guy to sort of try to replace Trey Flowers and then get rotational guys around him. But if it doesn't pan out, sometimes it doesn't. It's not going to cost him much. John Limerock is a great friend of the show. Also a fantastic contributor to the Locked on Patriots Slack channel. You can follow him on Twitter at J-O-H-N-L-I-M-B-E-R-K-I-S. Which position group are you most concerned about other than wide receiver and i think i'll give you two john offensive and defensive line yes offensive line you've got four of the five starters coming back but there are two sort of question marks right now one is obviously the
Starting point is 00:09:38 left tackle spot now we are all sort of assuming that Isaiah Wynn is going to sort of slide into that left tackle spot and be up to the task of protecting Tom Brady. But he missed all of his rookie year. So you're going to see if he can come back from an Achilles, which is a tough injury to come back from, particularly from a left tackle or an offensive lineman. And so there's a question mark there. And now with Adrian Waddell gone, you need that sort of swing tackle type player. They have some potential guys, you know, whether it's like a Dan Skipper or Cole Croston or an Ulrich John.
Starting point is 00:10:11 But they probably want to address offensive tackle in this draft now. And they might do that, again, with 12 picks. And so offensive line is a question. And I think defensive line specifically, edge is probably a question. I like the Mike Pinnell signing. You know, we went through him on yesterday's show, pairing him with Adam Butler and Lawrence Guy I think will work. We sort of anticipate the rotation with Bennett on the edge,
Starting point is 00:10:35 but we still want to see it in action. So the two trench groups, those are the ones that I'm the most concerned about right now. And, yes, obviously wide receiver. We need to see that sort of get shaken out finally our friend isaac gogol who gave us the idea from monday's mock draft monday you can follow him on twitter at xx isaac gogel would stanley morgan jr be a player you're interested in makes a good story for sure would him and andy isabella completely retool the wide receiver position and i've talked a bit about stanley morgan here and elsewhere i think it'd be a perfect fit for
Starting point is 00:11:09 what the patriots want at the wide receiver position you look at some of the measurables some of the production on film i think that works isabella is an interesting player as well because both of these guys could be inside and outside type guys morgan and isabella are both boundary type players but they might fit more on the inside when it comes to the NFL, but they have the experience to be on the boundary. And that's kind of what the Patriots do. They move the wide receivers around a lot. And so you will see guys aligned inside. You will see guys aligned outside. Maybe if Josh Gordon is back in the mix, he might be the only guy that sort of stays as a true X or even a Z type, but everybody else is sort of interchangeable. And the addition of both of those guys, I think,
Starting point is 00:11:49 would be great. You know, we have some questions about the wide receiver group, just kind of alluded to it. You know, they've brought Dorsett back, which is nice. They've been in Bruce Ellington. I think he's a piece type player. We're all sort of hoping that they get something out of Braxton Berrios, Maurice Harris, who knows what they're going to get there. And so they still need to address some wide receiver issues we're going to see how the Josh Gordon situation plays out but yeah Morgan and Isabella would be fantastic acquisitions for them Isabella sort of yes it's stereotypical in a sense but he does sort of look like a patriot but because of the measurables and what he did at the combine he's probably going to rise up there afterwards you look at some of the production heables and what he did at the Combine, he's probably going to rise up draft boards.
Starting point is 00:12:25 You look at some of the production he had against SEC defenses, and it's pretty impressive. I think Morgan is probably Herter's name, or City's name, rise a bit after the Combine as well. But both very interesting, widely serious. Would not surprise me to see one or perhaps even both of them make their way to Foxborough. So there we go.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Let's get us started here. Up next, we're going to talk a little bit about coaching changes, some fantasy stuff, some draft bankies, some safety talk, and a little bit later, some fun stuff to close out this Mailbag Wednesday here at Locked On Patriots. Mark Schofield back with you now on this Mailbag Wednesday installment of Locked On Patriots. And yes, we've got some Patriots news. One, Ryan Allen, the punter, he is coming back. So we got that done. Fantastic. Two, Robert Kraft looks to be nearing some sort of plea type agreement where the charges will get dropped if he sort of admits that there was enough evidence that he would have been found guilty.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Apparently, this is a deal that has been offered by the prosecutor's office to him and a couple of other people involved in this situation. So we will sort of take another look at that. And if this does go down, we'll break it down for you when that does happen. But the wheels of justice seem to be moving in some sense with respect to the Robert Kraft situation. However, let's get back to the questions because we do have a ton of them. We got questions from some Dolphins people
Starting point is 00:13:48 that I want to get to. The first is a question that was asked by two different people, so I'm going to meld it together. Both Travis Winfield, at Winfield, W-I-N-G-F-I-E-L-D-N-F-L, the host of Locked on Dolphins. You've heard him on this show,
Starting point is 00:14:00 a fantastic guy. As well as 2Drink, at F-L-2, the number 2, D-R-I-n-k-m-i-n-i-m-u-m to drink is one of the hosts of the super flex pod they were kind enough to have me on to talk some dynasty stuff some fantasy stuff with the quarterback position to drink is a fantastic guy even for a dolphins fan so please check him out and they both basically ask what pat's staffer will have the biggest impact sort of long-term or what departure amongst the Patriots staff sort of worries me most?
Starting point is 00:14:29 That was how they sort of phrased their individual questions. So just throw it in there. What departure worries us the most? And let's sit here right now. With the big three intact of Belichick, McDaniels, and Skarnackia, I still feel pretty good about the Patriots coaching staff. The acquisition of Shiano, I think, will help. But when you look at the guys that left, particularly between Flores and O'Shea, given how well this Patriots defense gelled last year,
Starting point is 00:14:58 particularly down the stretch. Remember, when we got into conference championship weekend, myself and others made the case that, yes, the Patriots may have had the worst offense left of the four teams between New Orleans and the Rams and the Chiefs and New England. Four great offenses. And just you could make the case that, look, the Patriots might have been the least good of the four. But they probably had the best defense left. And I think Flores and his impact on this defense was a huge part of the story, but they probably had the best defense left. And I think Flores and his impact on this defense was a huge part of the story last year. Now, you still have Bill Belichick, obviously, and his imprints will be all over this defense, even with Shiano. But when you look at
Starting point is 00:15:38 the impact Flores had, that's the way I would answer this question. That's how I would lean there. Two Drink had two additional questions. First, will Bill Belichick's coaching tree produce anything worth a damn? And it is an interesting question because you look at some of the notable departures, whether it's Charlie Weiss, Romeo Cronell, even Bill O'Brien, who's made it to the playoffs a couple of times, but they can't seem to be figuring out the offensive line situation down there in Houston. Now, they seem to be interested in A.J. McCarron. It's like you're going to upgrade the backup quarterback spot.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Get Deshaun Watson some protection. Maybe it ends up being McDaniels eventually, in the sense that McDaniels' initial foray into life as a head coach kind of crashed and burned. Maybe his second bite at the apple, whenever that happens, pans out. I think between McDaniels and, yeah, I'd say between McDaniels and O'Brien, I sort of have more hope for McDaniels eventually panning out. I think O'Brien has done some good as a head coach,
Starting point is 00:16:42 but probably McDaniels eventually would be the guy that would sort of pan out. And then 2Drink has one more question here for us. It's a fantasy question related to Sony Michel, and he asks, will Sony get into top 12 running back production this year? And as I talked about when I was on the Superflex pod with 2Drink, there is sort of that dichotomy sometimes between fantasy football and the product and the production we see on the field. Because when it comes to the production and what we see on the field, Michelle is, I believe, a valuable running back, particularly just as a rookie last year.
Starting point is 00:17:20 We saw the way the Patriots relied on the ground game down the stretch. Now, does that translate into, say, top 12 production at the running back position? Well, last year in, say, standard formats, Sonny Michel finished as running back 25 overall with 132.1 points. Now, the guy that finished at one, Todd Gurley, 313. Averaging 22.4 points per game. Now, Michelle's numbers take a dip in PPR formats because of the pass production. Or at least a lack thereof. Because they take him off the field. They don't get him involved in the passing game.
Starting point is 00:18:01 And so, he's running back 35. I think it would be a stretch to see him get into top 12 i don't think he's an rb1 regardless of format as particularly when as long as tom brady's there this is going to be more of a passing team even though they relied on the ground game down the stretch the things that the that you get in PPR formats, they aren't there yet with Michelle. They're still going to have Burkhead. They're still going to have James White. And so there's going to be that running back by committee element.
Starting point is 00:18:36 And let's be honest, banking on Patriots running backs is always chasing a bit of fool's gold. Because of the way they rotate these guys around, the way they interchange them a bit, the way they'll rely on one guy one week and another guy the other week and sometimes a game-to-game, even a drive-to-drive basis. And so banking on running backs, always a bit tough. Next question, our friend John Lamarakis again. Aside from Brett Rippin and the quarterbacks are there any sort of non-quarterback prospect type binkies that i've got for the patriots he's
Starting point is 00:19:11 got two that he met mentions terry mclaren and a guy we just talked about stanley morgan jr as for me it's weird i usually have my non-QB binkies. Dan Vitale a couple of years ago, the super back from Northwestern, he was a guy that I liked. This year, it's hard to say that Hawkinson and Noah Fantz are binkies. I do like Dax Raymond, the Utah State tight end. I love how he plays the game, sort of pissed off. And so he's a guy that I'm keeping in mind. Another guy that I don't think that they go corner, but this lawn kid from Michigan that people keep telling me about him. People keep
Starting point is 00:20:00 saying, oh, you know, he seems like a Patriot. Oh, he seems like he's the type of guy that New England would want. So maybe he would be that type of guy. I'm not sure though. And again, would the Patriots even go corner after seemingly, you know, getting it done last year? And so, you know, he's another guy that I'm keeping in mind. But I go back to Dax Raymond. And the tight ends, this is such a good tight end class. And so I kind of leave it at that. The tight ends. Dax Raymond, love that kid. Finally, our good friends, NMAC, at Reluctant underscore Trade.
Starting point is 00:20:38 He actually put in two sort of, one was a question, a two-part question. The other was sort of a request, which I'm going to talk about for Friday's show. But he does have sort of two questions here, which we're going to get into. The first one is this. You're consistent in your mock drafts about the need to draft a safety. What qualities are needed in a good safety, and are there any in-house long-term solutions for the position? Safety is a position that seems to have become devalued a bit. It's funny.
Starting point is 00:21:12 An interesting exercise when you're bored sometimes is to take all 22 starting positions on both sides of the football, just the positions, not players, not by team or anything like that, just the positions. So you take, say, 11 personnel. And so you're going to go three wide receivers, a tight end, offensive lineman, running back, quarterback. And then the defensive side of the ball, maybe you go four, two, fives.
Starting point is 00:21:35 You're going to have your two edge guys, your two interior defensive tackles, two linebackers, two corners, a slot corner, and two safeties. So just take the positions and rank them in terms of importance for most important or quarterback, if you want to be honest about it, to least important. Dan Hattman over at the Scouting Academy asked me to do that a couple of years ago, and I turned in my rankings, and I had both safeties pretty high. And he came back to me, you know, you really sort of value safeties and i do
Starting point is 00:22:05 that's kind of how i look at the safety position and if i seems to be disagreeing with that partly because look so many teams are playing cover one maybe you need a cover safety so your strong safety might be important but your free safety not doing much back there and so maybe that's it i don't know but i still value safety play, partly because traditionally you're free safety, you're quarterback of the defense, and now with the way teams use motion, you need guys that can play both down in the box and in the free safety spot. And so it's a versatile position. I still value it highly.
Starting point is 00:22:37 What do you need? You need the mental component. You need the ability to sort of diagnose. Think about how so many passing designs are aimed at getting that safety out of position. You know, the Mills concept, post route, dig route combination. What are you doing as a quarterback? You're reading that safety. If he squats down on that dig, you throw the safety over his head. I mean, throw the post over his head. And so you need to be smart. You need to not get fooled and get baited into going out of position. You need to have the athleticism to play sideline to sideline if possible,
Starting point is 00:23:07 or at least numbers to numbers. Let's put it that way. You need to be able to tackle. You're the last line of defense. You've got to be able to tackle. And you have to have the versatility to play both down and the box at times. You have to be willing to do that because a lot of run fits require that safety to be a run fit type player.
Starting point is 00:23:24 And if you're not willing to do that or not capable capable of doing that you're not going to be able to contribute and so those are kind of the things i look for when i'm at least tangentially talking about safeties matty f brown matt brown on twitter matty f brown on twitter he's a defensive backs coach over in the united kingdom but very smart defensive mind michael kiss was on talking safety so there are some smart safety people out there. Seek them out as well, but that's at least what I look for. Is there somebody on the long-term basis that could do that for New England? I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:23:54 That's why I keep coming back to, you know, with the Chun injury, with Harmon, with McCourty sort of hinting at retirement a bit. I'd like to see them get a young safety in because at some point one of those guys might go and mac reluctant trades other question what are your current thoughts on the prospects of rivers making it i'm still in on rivers and partly because when he was down in mobile he looked so good and so i still have faith he got like legitimate early day two, maybe even late round one type buzz. People loved him down in Mobile. It just hasn't panned out for him yet. Maybe it happens, but I'm still sort of
Starting point is 00:24:33 holding out hope with him. So there you go. There's some more questions answered. We're going to close it out quickly in the next segment here with some fun questions. Going to have a little fun with things. All ahead on this Mailbag Wednesday here at Locked on Patriots. Mark Schofield back with you to close out this Mailbag Wednesday installment of the Locked on Patriots podcast and get some sort of off-script,
Starting point is 00:24:56 off-topic type questions, non-football related, but fun to get to. So let's kind of knock these out. Amorelian, at A-M-O-R-I-E-L-L-A-N asks, does pineapple have a place on pizza? No, full stop. I'm a non-believer in pineapple on pizza. This might be related to my own experiences with pineapple.
Starting point is 00:25:17 I do like pineapple. It is enjoyable in small doses. When I was eight, parents took me to hawaii which i would tell you was when it was first announced to me a rather disappointing trip because kid grew up in boston and my parents told me had told me that look we were going to go to disneyland i was going to ride the matterhorn i was so excited about that trip you know from boston to california to do that but then change of plans we're going to go spend 10 days in Hawaii. We're going to do Oahu, and then we're going to do Maui.
Starting point is 00:25:51 And I was crestfallen. I was so disappointed. I was heartbroken because I wanted to ride the Matterhorn. That's all I wanted. Chances are, look, I don't do well with heights and things like that, so I probably would have gotten there and been like, no, no way. And maybe my parents knew that. Maybe that's why they decided that, look, we're going to do something else. So we ended up going to Hawaii for 10 days. And of course, now,
Starting point is 00:26:12 looking back on that, it was a fantastic trip. Waikiki, Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, and then Maui, which was just basically, we had like a beach to ourselves. It was just a fantastic trip. That being said, pineapple. Pineapple everywhere. We were at a concert. It may have been Don Ho. It may have been Don Ho. I ordered a glass of milk. It's all I wanted. And they bring pineapple with it. It's like you couldn't escape pineapple. It was everywhere. And so maybe it's just because of that that i am just adamant against pineapple the hawaiian pizza it's just not for me i'm not a big fan of fruit on pizza i want sausage pepperoni i every once in a while i'll go down the veggie road and i'll do some mushrooms and black olives and okay it's pretty much it i'm a simple simple guy. I'm a man. I'm 42. When it comes to pizza,
Starting point is 00:27:06 I don't experiment a ton. Next question, Neil Dutton. Neil is a great, great, great friend of the show, great friend of the various, various things that I do out on Twitter. And he asks, why did I only find out today that the lead singer of Tto is the son of john williams and yes it is true believe it or not john williams who is obviously well known for all of the productions and scores and the things that he has composed over his life i mean you name it star wars indiana jones et close encounters of the third kind schindler's list jurassic park he's also done things like the theme for the 84 olympics sunday night football um lost in space he's won 24 grammys seven british academy film awards five academy awards and four golden globes with 51 academy awards he's the second most nominated individual after Walt Disney.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Look, John Williams is like the man. The man, period. Now, yes, you probably didn't know. Maybe some of you are just learning this as Neil did as he was apparently watching it on, I forget what show he was watching, watching something about football, and they talked about it. Maybe it was Good Morning Football. Yes, his son, Joseph Williams, lead center of total from 1986 to 1988, and again from 2010 to the present.
Starting point is 00:28:40 He was on Fahrenheit. He was on the seventh one before leaving to deal with some personal problems. But he sort of came back. And he has been their lead singer since rejoining the band. He has toured with them. Now, Fahrenheit, track list in there, not a lot that you probably know. You know, let's face face it doesn't have africa seventh one track list in there well there's some stuff that we're going to talk about here in a second
Starting point is 00:29:13 um once on the we're going to talk about here in a second so he was on a big one that i like somebody else in my family likes and yes he was the lead singer for Total 20 or Total XX, however you want to refer to it. It was the album they released to sort of mark their 20 years, which did have Africa on it. So there is at least that. And now he is back with the band. But yes, he is Joseph Williams, son of John Williams.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Small world. Musical family. very impressive. Last question we'll get to, and this also has a Toto element to it. Our great friend and the brilliant Matt Waldman, whom, by the way, the RSP is dropping April 1st, so you got to get yourselves pre-ordered on that. He asks, does your wife like Toto? Does your wife like Africa? Or was she the one that tried to kill you by ordering your cat to take that hit on you on the stairs recently? Fantastic question. Even my mom liked this question as she said so on
Starting point is 00:30:18 Twitter. My wife is a Toto fan. Now, interestingly enough, my kids are now Toto fans too, and that's probably one of the coolest things. And to sort of Neil's point, yes, everything that John Williams has done is fantastic, but were any of his songs, or at least songs by his band, or anything covered by Weezer?
Starting point is 00:30:36 No. But the other day, my family, we took a quick trip out to Little Ray Caverns for a night. We were driving out there, Saturday morning, the Weezer cover version of Africa comes along and my daughter Simone is in the back seat, belting it out.
Starting point is 00:30:49 That's pretty cool. But my wife, also a Toto fan, she was on board with going to the concert when we saw them just a couple of months ago. She was downloading Toto albums and listening to it to get ready for the show. Now, I mentioned just a few moments ago, I mentioned how Joseph Williams was on the seventh one, which was a Toto album released in 1988. It was the best received album since Toto 4. Now, the first track on that album is the song that you were starting to hear right now pamela and it is my wife's favorite toto song and last summer i was asked about some of my favorite non-africa songs and pamela was one that i did not mention and i should have it was a momentary lapse of reason on my part. This is a fantastic song. We're going to play us out with a little bit of Pamela by Toto.
Starting point is 00:31:50 And to Matt's point, maybe my wife is playing along, maybe, and maybe she did order the attempted assassination of me by my cat. He's going to come through with it at some point. Presley is going to take me out. There's almost a sweet comfort in knowing how I'm going to come through with it at some point. Presley is going to take me out. There's almost a sweet comfort in knowing how I'm going to go. It's going to be my cat. He's going to take me out as I'm going down the stairs. Since that attempt, which literally sent me flying down the stairs and I believe cracked a couple of ribs, crazy stuff. He's tried a couple more times. And so Presley is going to end me at some point but I will probably be listening to the song Pamela or at least another Toto song when it
Starting point is 00:32:30 happens or in all likelihood as I've been doing the past couple of days some Game of Thrones stuff just the scores just all the all the albums from each season just incredible incredible incredible stuff I won't spoil stuff but if you've heard the music, you know. That's a show I do want to see. But anyway, to Matt's point, my wife, total fan. But Pamela, as we're hearing right now, that's her favorite. That will do it for today. Tomorrow, hoping to have Blake Murphy from Revenge of the Birds on
Starting point is 00:32:57 to sort of talk some Josh Rose and stuff. And then Friday, who knows what we're going to do Friday. Probably just sort of wrap up the week like we've been doing. Until then, keep it locked right here to me Mark Schofield and Locked on Patriots Black and white Always go together Day and night You're the precious July treasure
Starting point is 00:33:41 Wanting every part of you is not a crime Thank you. It may not heal this time There is no second chance For the one who leaves it all behind
