Hey there everybody, welcome on into a Sunday morning tailgate edition of the Lockdown Patriots
podcast.
Mark Schofield here with you on Sunday morning, November 25th here.
We're winding down Thanksgiving weekend, but we got a full slate of NFL action to talk
about here this morning.
We're going to do our usual Sunday morning tailgate stuff.
We're going to talk injury stuff, news and notes at the outset.
We're going to do some DFS stuff, starting with recapping our picks from last week, as
well as some selections for this week.
And a little bit later, we're going to talk about the few days that were on the college football landscape.
But before we do all that, a reminder to follow me on Twitter at Mark Schofield.
Check out the work at places like InsideThePylon.com, Pro Football Weekly, The Score, Matt Waldman's Rookie Scouting Portfolio,
Big Blue View, part of the SB Nation family of websites.
As I've long said, if there's an outlet that's covering the game of football we all love,
chances are they've got me doing some work for them.
Let's dive into it now, and we'll get this out right in the start, right in the open.
Tom Brady did travel with the team to New York to take on the Jets.
Tom Brady popping up on the injury report late in the week with a knee injury,
and then a little bit later we learn missed his Friday practice with an illness.
Listed as questionable officially for this game, along with Nate Ebner, Rob Gronkowski, Shaq Mason, and Sonny Michel.
But expectations are that he's going to go today here as they take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
As I mentioned, some other players just said it's questionable.
Nate Ebner, Rob Gronkowski, who told the media that he was going to be able to go,
that he's going to be good to go,
and all his signs are that he's going to be back in the lineup.
Shaq Mason and Sonny Michel as well.
For the Jets, players listed as questionable,
linebacker Brandon Copeland and wide receiver Robbie Anderson.
More on him in a minute.
Players listed as doubtful just tuned.
They're both from New York.
Marcus May with a shoulder and thumb injury.
And James Carpenter with a shoulder injury.
Two players so far confirmed as out.
For the Patriots, tight end Dwayne Allen.
For the Jets, a big one.
Quarterback Sam Darnold.
So it will be Josh McAllen, the veteran journeyman quarterback,
getting the start for gang green today at MetLife Stadium.
That's kind of a lay of the land when it comes to the Jets and the Pats.
Around the league, however, we've got some other names we've got to get you
up to date on when it comes to today's action. For example, Doug Baldwin. We're going to talk
about him more in a minute, but he is officially questionable for Week 12 against the Panthers.
That's a huge game, Seattle and Carolina. He's questionable in that one. Austin Eckler was not listed on the
Chargers final injury report for week 12 against the Cardinals. He was limited to start the week,
but was upgraded to full participation at Thursday's practice. His status apparently
for Sunday was never in doubt. Melvin Gordon has a hamstring he's expected to play through
his questionable tag, but on the off chance that he doesn't, you might want to grab yourself some
Austin Eckler action.
Some Packers news.
Jimmy Graham, his thumb injury questionable for Week 12 against Minnesota.
Randall Cobb, he is questionable as well for Week 12.
With Graham, he resumed practice on Thursday.
He looks on track to play Sunday against Minnesota,
despite that broken thumb that he's dealing with.
Supposedly, he looks good in practice catching balls,
but he will play with an attachment on his injured thumb. As for Cobb, he has not played since week
nine and still remains iffy to suit up Sunday night. Even if he's active, hard to believe he's
going to be that well-versed, ready to go back to game speed given the linger and hamstring ailment
he's been dealing with. He would probably step into the slot of Equimania St. Brown if cleared.
Devontae Adams, Marquez Valdez, Scantlin will probably be their primary
receiving options.
Pierre Garcon, San Francisco taking some hits at the wide receiver spot this
week.
Pierre Garcon, first off, he is out for week 12 against the Buccaneers.
He was unable to practice this week, which is tough because that's a big opportunity for him and the rest of this 49ers offense
as we're going to talk about going up against Tampa Bay.
You can basically stream offensive players against Tampa Bay this year.
In addition for the 49ers, you've got Marquis Goodwin.
He's been downgraded to doubtful, dealing with a family issue.
And so it's unlikely that he's going to go.
Ian Rappaport, late Saturday evening.
Marquise Goodwin is not expected to play against the Bucs.
He's considered doubtful due to a personal matter.
Garcon is out.
Goodwin is out.
That means for the receivers, you're getting Dante Pettis, Richie James,
Trent Taylor, and Kendrick Bourne at the receiver spot.
Go heavy on George Kittle shares if you get them.
If you've got an opportunity, go heavy on him.
Also for the 49ers, Reuben Foster.
Another name to consider here.
He is questionable against the Bucs.
Looking around the rest of the league now,
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said J.D. McKisson's foot injured reserve
is at least two weeks for returning.
He was back to practice this week, first time since going on IR.
Even when healthy, though, there's probably not a lot of room for him
in that Seattle backfield.
Marcus Mariota, he's going to be good to go against Houston.
The Titans removed Mariota from the injury report
after two straight full practices.
His neck injury is never expected to keep him out,
but he may or may not be 100%.
Rumblings are that he's good to go, and he's starting to get that grip strength back,
maybe fully in that right hand.
So that's somebody to keep an eye on.
Kiki Kuti, he was back in the lineup last week against Washington
after I dropped him from my lineups.
He has been removed from the Week 12 injury report.
He is good to go now.
He saw more targets than Demarius Thomas in his return last week.
So maybe if you're in a deep
deep deep league he might be a wide receiver three type guy Mo Ali Cox ruled out for Indianapolis
in their game the Colts against Miami here in week 12 Eric Ebron Jack Doyle probably going to
get the benefit I've done a lot of work on the Colts and how they've gone multiple tight ends
a lot this year Mo Ali Cox has been a part of that. Obviously now with
him out, like I said, Ebron Doyle
are going to get a ton of targets.
AJ Green, he's been downgraded
to doubtful for Week 15. Looking like
he's going to miss his third straight game.
DK Metcalf,
we don't need to talk about that, excuse me.
Antonio Brown
for the Steelers. He is good to go at Denver.
There were rumblings back in August that since Antonio Brown has the sickle cell trait,
he might be held out of this game at altitude against Denver.
But since he's already played two games in Denver in 2012 in his history,
they're going to let him go.
They feel comfortable letting him see normal snaps.
Zach Cunningham, linebacker, Houston Texans.
He's expected to return for Monday night's game with Tennessee.
He missed two games with an MCL sprain.
He should be back to an every-down roll after practicing on a limited basis.
As I mentioned, Melvin Gordon,
he has a game-time decision for Week 12 against the Cardinals.
His hamstring issue has resurfaced this week,
but Coach Anthony Lynn suggested the knee injury is the bigger concern.
The Chargers limited him in practice the past two days,
put on his status, like we said, up into the air.
There's a chance he can't go, so again,
Austin Eckler might be a little plug-and-play option.
If you've got Gordon in your lineup,
see if you can get Eckler as we get closer to game time.
Two Buccaneers wide receivers to talk about.
Chris Godwin has been removed from
the Week 12 injury report. He practiced all week. He's fully healthy after playing through Week 11
with a questionable tag. On the flip side though, Deshaun Jackson listed as questionable for Week 12.
He played through this thumb injury, got in two full practices, so there's probably not a lot of
concern, but there is an opportunity here. If he can't go or Godwin,
those guys go.
You might want to consider them to be in your lineups because Mike Evans is probably going to draw Richard Sherman
in that game between the Bucs and the Niners.
Ronald Jones, rookie running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He's questionable for Week 12 against the San Francisco 49ers.
He did practice all week.
He's probably going to be good to go.
Chances are, though, he's just going to be a change of pace back behind Peyton Barber.
And finally, Buccaneers linebacker Devontae David, finally, for Tampa Bay here.
He is out against the San Francisco 49ers.
Adam Thielen.
This is one to watch, especially for me.
Adam Thielen was not listed on the Vikings injury report for Week 12 against the Packers.
His workload was scaled back this week at practice, but he's going to be good to go.
He had 12 catches for 131 in the touchdown when he faced the Packers earlier this season.
He's probably going to put in another huge performance. So there it is, your Sunday news
and notes here, getting you ready, helping you figure out your fantasy lineups, your last minute
decisions here, some other stuff to be wary of. Up next, we're going to talk some DFS stuff. And
a little bit later, a crazy Friday and Saturday in the college football landscape.
We're going to recap some of that.
That's all ahead on this Sunday morning tailgate installment of Locked on Patriots.
Mark Schofield back with you now on this Sunday morning tailgate installment of Locked on Patriots.
Sunday, November 24th, 2018.
Getting you ready for today's slate of NFL action.
What we're going to do now, like we always do in the B Block on these Sunday morning
tailgate shows, talk a little DFS.
First, a look back at the week that was in week 11 and a pretty good slate of picks,
if I do say so myself.
Last week, we had as our blue chip pick at the quarterback spot, Drew Brees, against Philly.
He was QB3, obviously had a huge day against the Eagles.
And we had Eli Manning against Tampa Bay.
Eli had a pretty good game too.
Eli has our value pick.
He was QB11 last week in PPR formats, whereas Drew Brees was QB3.
So I know DFS is a little bit different, but you figure QB1 weeks out of both those guys,
both those guys finishing in the top 12.
Dropping down to the running back spot.
We had Ezekiel Elliott as our blue chip pick,
and he was running back to in PPR formats.
And Alex Collins was our value pick.
And he slid down our running back 23 because of the Gus Edwards slash Lamar
Jackson factor.
There's a great piece.
I'll mention this again in a minute,
but Danny Kelly over at the runner,
among others highlighted how Gus Edwards at his north and south style of running
probably better suited for Lamar Jackson,
given how much they're going to use Jackson as a runner
in sort of that zone read game.
So you might want to keep that in mind if you're filling out a lineup this week,
which, as I said, we're going to get to in a minute.
But that play from Edwards, his style of play,
puts Collins back on the bench for the time being.
So you might want to fade Alex Collins
in some formats here. The wide receiver
spot again. Pretty good pick of Michael Thomas.
Hard to really pick against him this
year against Philly. Wide receiver 11
in PPR formats. Really had a whiff though
on Demarius Thomas. We're going to talk some
whiffs here in a second here because we had
Demarius Thomas as our value pick.
He was tied for wide receiver
73 because he put up a goose egg.
Big fat 0.0.
So that was rough.
Maybe stay away from him for a while.
Zach Ertz at the tight end position was our blue chip pick.
We had to pick somebody.
He was tight end 26.
Rough week for him.
But Evan Ingram kind of made up for tight end 11.
So that was last week.
Let's look at this week now and get some picks for you here.
Interesting week because obviously you had the three Thanksgiving Day games.
So that takes the Saints off the table if you're still looking to play some DFS right now.
So you're going to have to make it up elsewhere.
At the quarterback spot, for our blue chip pick,
we're going to go Russell Wilson at Carolina.
I know that's a bit of a – might be a bit of a head scratcher for some.
But look, when you look at the Panthers this year,
they've given up some points, two quarterbacks in fantasy formats here,
given up 20.9 points per game, two quarterbacks on FanDuel.
They've given up, let's see, 22 passing touchdowns this year,
which is actually amongst the tops in the league.
Only Oakland, Detroit, the Rams, the Falcons, and the Bucs
have given up more.
And three of those teams have played more games than they have.
So that's something to keep in mind.
So we're going to go with Russell Wilson.
He's going off at 7,700 over at FanDuel.
At the value spot, though, again, shocker.
We're going to stream against Tampa Bay.
I wrote this this week over at Big Blue View.
Basically, again, Tampa Bay has turned opposing passers into a top five quarterback.
Let's just run through it quickly again.
What Tampa Bay has done to opposing passers is nothing short of making them look like heroes. They're giving up 9.1
adjusted net yards per attempt, which would be a top five stat amongst passers. You have a
quarterback. I mean, let's look at it here for a second. Right now, who leads the league in adjusted
net yards per attempt? Drew Brees, 9.69. Then Patrick Mahomes at 9.23. Then Tampa Bay opponent quarterback, let's call it that, TBO,
would be third in adjusted net yards per attempt this year with 9.1.
Then Jared Goff would be fourth at 9.01.
Let's talk about next stat we'll go with.
How about touchdowns?
Tampa Bay's given up 25 passing touchdowns this year.
TBO would be ranked fifth in the league
behind Goff, Luck, Breeze, and Mahomes.
Mahomes at 37, Breeze at 29, Luck at 29,
Goff at 26, TBO at 25.
Next stat we'll look at, how about
interceptions?
The Tampa Bay Bucs have
one interception this year. Just one.
Where would that place
TBO? Well, amongst
we'll say qualified passers.
Passers that are actually starting
quarterbacks.
And have started a number of games.
TBO would be the best quarterback this
year in terms of not throwing interceptions tied with Aaron Rodgers, who has one as well.
Quarterback rating. Let's do that. I know quarterback rating gets, gets a bit of a,
a bad rapid times or how about QBR people, people like QBR right now, Drew Brees leads the league
89.0 right amongst qualified passers. Well,
oh, we can't do QBR in that stat.
Okay, we'll do quarterback rating.
Tampa Bay Bucs have allowed opposing passers a quarterback rating of 124.9.
Where would that place?
TBO?
Second in the league. Drew Brees, 127.3.
Tampa Bay,
TBO quarterback, 124.9.
So I think I've made my point. We stream passers against Tampa Bay. We quarterback 124.9 so I think I've made my point we stream passers against Tampa Bay
we did it last week with Eli Manning so we'll do it this week with the value pick of Nick Mullins
just going off at six thousand dollars on FanDuel what's amazing about that is honestly I'm doing
this you better do this because he's still priced as a backup.
He's as expensive as Kevin Hogan, as Chad Kelly, as Chad Knopf, as Alex Magoo.
I had to double and triple check it.
There he is, Nick Mullins, still going off at $6,000.
I couldn't believe it.
Take advantage of that.
Of course, I know I'm going to have to come back next week
and eat my words, but sitting here right now,
when you can get a starting quarterback going against that defense
for the same price as Brian Hoyer, I think you'd do it.
Let's go to the running back spot.
And I can't, to quote one of my favorite movies of all time, Top Gun,
I can't believe I'm doing this.
I'm going to give you your dream shot.
I'm going to send you up against the best.
You two characters are going to Top Gun.
I let myself go there.
But I said I was going away from the Browns and Chubb and Najoku,
but I got to do it again.
So we're going with Nick Chubb as our blue chick pick at the running back spot.
And the reason being is, look, you're getting a Bengals defense that
given up 29.3 points per game to opposing running backs on FanDuel this year.
That's third behind just the Falcons and the Chiefs.
Chubb's come on of late, so I think that's a good opportunity.
For the value pick, though, we're going to go with Gus Edwards.
Lamar has been named the starter.
Edwards fits his play style.
The offense is going to run through the two of them again this week,
and they're going up against the Oakland Rainers,
who 25.7 points per game on FanDuel.
They've given up to running backs.
Only seven teams have given up more points per game.
And so I think it's a pretty good opportunity.
You know, Chubb's going off at 7,500 on FanDuel.
Edwards, just a measly 5,300.
So literally, you could have a quarterback, an RB1,
and Nick Mullins and Gus Edwards.
And if you do that over at FanDuel, let's say you do that.
So you're going to start with Nick Mullins, right?
You pick Nick Mullins
then you go to the running back spot
you add yourself a little Gus Edwards at 5300
that gets you two players
with
$48,700
left in salary, averaging just under
$7,000 on average per player
when you figure what defenses and kickers are going to cost you
you can put together a nice little lineup starting with those two guys so that's all I'm saying Just under $7,000 on average per play. When you figure what defenses and kickers are going to cost you,
you can put together a nice little lineup starting with those two guys.
So, that's all I'm saying.
Let's go to wide receiver now.
I think you go Odell as your sort of blue chip pick here. Going up against that Philly defense,
which in terms of what they've given up this year to opposing wide receivers,
they've given up some points.
The Saints have given up 38.1 points per game. The Eagles 36.3 points per game to wide receivers, they've given up some points. The Saints have given up 38.1 points per game.
The Eagles 36.3 points per game to wide receivers.
That defensive back, cornerback group is so banged up,
they've needed to use wide receivers as defensive backs in practice.
I think Odell's going to have a field day on Sunday.
So get in on that 8,500 over at Fando.
If you want to go cheap, we're going to go with Tyler Lockett.
Again, going against Carolina,
that defense has been pretty stingy, just
31.6 points per game to wide receivers this
year, which is like 12th or 13th
if my rough eyeball is correct
there. But with Baldwin
dealing with injuries, a groin injury,
he might not go. I think Lockett
makes a ton of sense. Turn it to
the tight ends.
We've talked about streaming quarterbacks against Tampa Bay.
You could probably do that with tight ends against Tampa Bay too.
The Panthers give up 14.2 points per game.
We're going to talk about that in a second.
But second in the league is Tampa Bay at 13.5.
So I think George Kittle against that defense makes a ton of sense.
7,500.
I know.
I thought about Gronk.
I know this is locked on Patriots.
The Jets have been pretty stingy against tight ends. Believe it or not, they are a top of sense. 7,500. I know. I thought about Gronk. I know this is locked on Patriots.
The Jets have been pretty stingy against tight ends.
Believe it or not, they are a top-five team,
at least in points allowed to tight ends on FanDuel,
which maybe isn't even a category to base your decisions on.
But if it is, they're getting up to 6.8 points per game to tight ends.
It's probably because of the influence of Jamal Adams, Mark,
those two safeties.
So I'd keep that in mind.
But the aforementioned Nick Van Et will be our value pick.
Just $5,000 for the Seahawks against Carolina, who, as I said,
they've given out the most points per game on FanDuel at the tight ends this year.
14.2 points per game.
So those are our picks.
That's our DFS slate. Again, I really think if you stack that Mullins-Edwards at the start,
I think that's going to put you in a good spot to spend some money elsewhere.
That's just me.
That's what I'm probably going to be doing myself.
So, hey, maybe we'll win some money together.
Maybe you guys will be screaming at me next week.
Either way, it's all in good fun.
Up next, we're going to recap some of the just incredible,
just a fantastic weekend of college football.
Even if some of the games didn't live up to the hype, it's just still great to have all that college football on the TV.
That's ahead on this Sunday morning tailgate installment of Locked On Patriots.
Mark Schofield back with you now to close out this Sunday morning tailgate installment of the Locked On Patriots podcast.
And we're going to talk a little college football.
I'm going to talk about some of the
stuff that went down on Friday, on Saturday.
Some very
fascinating, fascinating, fascinating games
going down. We'll run through some of
the stuff quickly, starting with Friday's games.
We start Nebraska-Iowa.
And Iowa pulls it out.
41-yard field goal
through the rain as time expired
gives the Iowa Hawkeyes the win in that game.
But I think the bigger story, if you're sort of looking long-term,
is I know Nebraska finishes at 4-8, 3-6 in the Big Ten.
Had some impressive wins in the Big Ten, actually.
If you're buying Nebraska stock, get on that now.
Get in line behind me and others.
Because I think
that team is going to be good next year. I think what Scott Frost did, you know, playing the young
guys, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, has really set them up to be good next year.
I think you're going to see a much, much improved Nebraska team. Adrian Martinez, for example, 26
of 38 for 260 and two touchdowns in the loss against Iowa.
Another game that went down during the day that I was sort of keeping an eye on,
you had Buffalo rolling over Bowling Green.
Tyree Jackson, 12 of 20 for 151 and a touchdown.
Not huge numbers, but gets them to conference championship game, so big win for them.
Drew Locke, 16 of 25 for 221 and two touchdowns as Missouri shuts out Arkansas on a bit of a rainy, wet day down at Columbia. What was interesting about that, I was in and out of that
game and the Nebraska game at the same time. Locke looked okay. He's looked better the past couple of
weeks, at least from a production standpoint. And I know it was wet conditions, but he's still doing
some of the things that irk me about him. You know, it's Josh Allen-esque.
I was on the QB Scosho with my good buddy Michael Kiss.
You guys should be listening to that.
I know there's a lot of ask you to listen to, but new podcast I'm a part of.
And he compared him to Davis Webb, called him Davis Webb 2.0,
when we had our episode that came out on Thursday.
I think that's a pretty good comp.
But Drew Locke finishing strong this season.
Some of the other early action.
Oregon beats Oregon State in the Civil War, 55-15.
Justin Herbert left that game with a shoulder injury.
That's going to be something to watch.
Speaking of injuries, Ed Oliver.
This has been an awkward end to his time in Houston.
He's benched.
He's emotional on the sideline.
You had the incident two weeks ago with the jacket and Major Applewhite. That's going to leave some bad taste in mouths of some NFL prospect
evaluators, I'd say. Let's just put it that way. UCF rolls over South Florida, but that's not the
story. The story is Mackenzie Milton and the injury he suffered. Don't watch it. That's all
I'm going to say. Don't watch it. It does not sound good.
We saw on Saturday morning that the family was not releasing any information to the public.
He was taken to the hospital immediately for what I'll just describe as a lower leg injury.
It was Theismann-esque.
It was Napoleon McCallum-esque.
Let's put it that way.
Just a horrific, horrific scene.
And praying for Mackenzie Milton.
Praying for him right now.
Washington State in the snow.
A little Apple Cup action.
Jake Browning and company, they get it done.
Browning goes 11-14 for 207, one interception.
The conditions were bad, so the ground game was a huge factor.
Washington State's offense was kind of stymied by the conditions in part.
Myles Gaskins, 27 for 173 touchdowns.
That's kind of setting up what looks to be Washington-Utah
in the Pac-12 championship game.
I'm just going to say, if you're a fan of offensive lines and run game
and running the football, you might want to tune in for that one.
A game that was on the other end of the spectrum.
Oklahoma-West Virginia at night, 59-56.
Just points galore.
Will Greer, 32-49 for 539, four touchdowns.
The guys over at the Draft Network, Kyle Krabs, Joe Marino, John Ledger,
they were in the stands for this one.
Marquise Brown, Hollywood Brown, 11 receptions for 243, two tutties.
Huge game for him.
Murray, you know, he had another big game too and it's kind of
sparked this interesting debate you know obviously you know codler murray drafted in the first round
signed a five million dollar contract already with the oakland a's but he goes 20 of 27 for 364
three touchdowns one interception chipped in nine carries for 194 yards rushing and a touchdown as
well in that game a A tremendous college football quarterback.
You wonder, look, if you wonder about an NFL-type future for him,
he's listed, listed at 5'10", 195, and I think that's generous.
I think he'd come in more at the 5'9 1⁄2-type range.
Would an NFL team be willing to take a shot on a quarterback with that stature
given his skill set? I think more and more teams would be willing to take a shot on a quarterback with that stature?
Given his skill set, I think more and more teams would be willing to at least draft him.
But I think he goes the Major League Baseball route, but who knows.
Now, let's talk about some of the Saturday action.
Now, let's talk some of the Sunday action here.
We'll start with Alabama.
They take care of business.
Was anybody really surprised by this?
52-21 in the Iron Bowl over Auburn.
Tua does two things.
25-32 for 324.
Five tutties.
I think you've got to say he's pretty much the Heisman frontrunner at this point.
Jared Stidham is going to be a name to watch.
He graduates.
He's already graduated.
Excuse me.
He's already taken graduate- level classes now at Auburn. They talked about at the end of this game, there's an opportunity here
for him potentially to grad transfer here. You could look at a program like Wisconsin. He could
go the Russell Wilson route, maybe a place like Stanford somewhere else where he could grad
transfer here. I think Wisconsin, I saw some people talking about that on Twitter. That might be a good spot for
him. I'm not sure
though that he should
come out. I'm really not sure about that. He'd have to
really impress
in the pre-draft season. The thing with Stidham is
he's not overly old. I mean, he's
a redshirt junior, so he's sort of
graduating early. He's set to
turn 23 in August,
so he would be 23 come his draft time.
Not overly old, not a Brandon Whedon type situation.
So if I were advising Stidham, I'd say, look, try to find a spot where you can land.
I think that might be the best way to sort of boost your stock.
The big one, the game at the Horseshoe.
And this was never really a game.
It got interesting there late in the second quarter,
but Ohio State ends up rolling over Michigan, 62-39.
Dwayne Haskins, another guy with an interesting decision in front of him,
19-30 for 318 and another five tutties.
Paris Campbell, five catches for 114 and a touchdown.
That touchdown was pretty much the one that you said,
okay, this one's over.
Huge win for Ohio State.
Now they get to see if maybe Oklahoma falls in a Big 12 championship game situation
and might get Ohio State a shot at getting into the playoff situation.
Speaking of the playoffs, Georgia, obviously Alabama awaits them
in the SEC championship game, but Georgia takes care of business.
45-21 over Georgia Tech.
Jake Fromm, 13-16, 175 in four touchdowns.
Florida, Florida State, never really much of a game.
41-14 for Florida.
Maryland, they fall to Penn State, 38-3.
Trace McSorley, 12-22, 230 in a touchdown.
He's got a bowl game ahead of him.
And then the Senior Bowl.
Yeah, more on that at a later date.
And of course, though, the game I was very, very, very curious to watch,
the late night one.
Utah State at Boise State to decide the Mountain West Western Division.
Obviously, all eyes on Brett Rippett in that one.
Been chatting a little bit with Jim Nagy over at the Senior Bowl,
director of scouting for the Senior Bowl.
Reading in between the lines were some of Jim Nagy's comments on Twitter recently,
it certainly has me wondering if Rippon's going to be on the outside looking in
when it comes to Senior Bowl roster time.
Would his performance on Saturday night boost his stock?
Well, I thought it was an impressive performance from Bretttt rippin tonight uh boise state host in
utah state they pulled a nine point victory 33 24 and what you saw from brett rippin tonight were
a lot of the things that i really like about him as a quarterback you saw the timing and rhythm
throws you saw him doing the little things at the quarterback position moving defenders with his
eyes the ball handling skills.
The Broncos were so effective on play-action throws.
And he did have the one touchdown pass on a third-and-goal situation in the fourth quarter that kind of really gave Boise State their first kind of big lead of the night,
which I thought was an impressive play from him, buying some time, working through his progressions finding a receiver late and I thought it was again a solid performance from a veteran quarterback who I think fits what the
Patriots want to do on offense and so whether he's down there in Mobile whether he's not I still think
he's a quarterback the people should be excited about studying over the next couple of weeks over
the next couple of months obviously now with the victory Boise State they get to host Fresno State
in the Mountain West Conference Championship game next week so that will be a
rematch of a game that those two teams played just a couple weeks ago the Boise State won so
be fascinated to watch that fascinating to watch Brett Rippon as well and of course it will be
fascinating to watch the NFL games today and that will do it for today's Sunday morning tailgate
show I will be back later today or tonight,
hopefully with a glorious victory edition episode of the Locked On Patriots podcast.
Until then, keep it locked right here to me, Mark Schofield,
and Locked On Patriots. Thank you. Thanks for watching!
